17 Jan 2025Episode 91: Coaching Topics – Perfectionism00:26:04

Perfectionism is a phenomenon that can easily get in the way of our progress, and can certainly impact our sense of achievement, satisfaction and overall wellbeing.

For your perfectionist coachees, they are likely to see the drive to be perfect as a good thing that has rewarded them in the past. They probably thrived during their education and in their careers because they are high-achievers.

They probably wear their perfectionism as a badge of honour.

But all is not necessarily well in the world of perfectionists.

In this episode we explore how Perfectionism might show up in the coaching room, how it might be de-railing some of our coachees and leading them to have a sense of low self-worth. Hopefully, after listening to our conversation, you might be able to recognise when perfectionism is emerging in the coaching room.

You’ll then be able to work with your coachees to help them overcome this need for everything to be perfect, find some self-compassion and to celebrate times when good enough is good enough.

17 Nov 2023Episode 30: Coaching Approach - Transactional Analysis00:36:29

Transactional Analysis is a psychological theory that can help us to understand and explore human interactions and relationships.

In this episode we explore, what it is, where it comes from, and how it can be a useful approach to use in the coaching room. We also share two models, The Parent - Adult - Child model, and the Drama Triangle, that might prove useful in the coaching room. Both models can be introduced to coachees to encourage them to reflect on their relationships and to allow them to gain new perspectives around the ways that their interactions with others play out.

16 Feb 2024Episode 43: Coaching Topics – The Inner Critic00:32:57

If you’re a regular listener to our podcast you will have noticed that we regularly discuss how we might deal with different topics that show up in the coaching room.

We recognise that everyone will have experienced some negative thinking about themselves from time to time and that’s just part of the human condition. For most people this can be a little annoying or frustrating, and doesn’t cause too much of a problem for much of the time. But there are times when, for some coachees, the inner voice becomes louder and more persistent.

At times like these, this inner dialogue can become a barrier to a coachee’s personal or professional growth and often has an adverse impact on their  self esteem. This phenomenon  is often termed the ‘Inner Critic’.

In this episode we explore the concept of the Inner Critic; what it is, how we might spot it coming up for a coachee, and what tools and techniques might be useful in the coaching room to help to quieten this unhelpful voice and allow other parts of our coachees’ inner dialogue to be show up more often and be more noticeable.

22 Dec 2023Episode 35: Challenges in Coaching: Is It Necessary To Contract With Our Coachees?00:27:15

We will regularly be devoting a podcast episode to discussing some widely held coaching beliefs, common coaching practices and
coaching challenges that are often pondered and debated.

In today’s episode we are talking about contracting. We will be exploring whether it is always necessary to contract with coachees, and if a coach is doing so, when they might contract and how they might go about it.

We’ll also be exploring what elements coaches might choose to include in their coaching contract and their contracting conversations?

28 Mar 2025Episode 101: To Celebrate or reflect? That is the question00:26:08

In the last episode we were celebrating our first 100 podcast episodes with some reflections on the coaching tools that the coaching doctors we have interviewed love to use. We had great fun reminding ourselves of the wonderful coaches that we have talked to on the podcast over the past two years.

We had intended to include their favourite coaching questions too, but we got a bit carried away with ourselves and ended up running out of time.

So, this week we are revisiting our coaching interviews and reflecting on the coaching questions that our coaching doctors find most useful in their coaching conversations.

From time to time we devote an episode to questions that our listeners have asked about coaching.

In this episode we explore how to handle a coachee who doesn’t seem to be taking action between coaching sessions; what support we should expect to provide a coachee between sessions; how to explore whether our coaching is effective and receive feedback on our coaching; and what insurance you need to think about as a coach.

Do send us your questions, or even drop us a voice note of your question to be featured on a future episode.

05 May 2023Episode 2: The Person Centred Approach To Coaching00:14:52

In this episode, produced by MonkeyPants Productions, we will be introducing the person-centred approach to coaching. It’s an approach that, if you have had some coaching or any coach training, you will probably recognise, even if you didn’t know what it was called.

The person-centred approach provides the basis for non-directive coaching, so it lies at the heart of most people’s coaching. Today we will discuss where it stems from, what the key elements of it are, when it is best used, and when perhaps you will want to switch to a different approach.

30 Jun 2023Episode 10: Coaching Tools: A new model00:25:12

In this episode we discuss a new coaching model that we have introduced in our training programme. Having used and taught the GROW model for many years we have long recognised that it has its limitations, especially when coachees don’t come to the coaching room with specific goals.

We’ve created a model that flows with the natural rhythm of a coaching conversation and provides the coachee with the opportunity to reflect on the importance of the topic they have brought to the coaching room; the change that they would like to see; and the new thinking that they have generated during the session.

03 Nov 2023Episode 28: Coaching Topic: Mindset00:27:17

Mindset is a term regularly used within coaching but what exactly is it? How might we encourage someone to reflect on their own mindset in the coaching room? How might we work with coachees to adapt fixed ways they have of thinking about certain areas of their life and allow them to develop and grow.

In this episode we explore the work of Carol Dweck and her Growth Mindset theory. Complete with a brief example of a coaching conversation around a mindset issue, we think you’ll enjoy this episode and hope that it will provide you with some food for thought.

12 Jan 2024Episode 38: Coaching Topics: Introversion00:34:58

It’s not often that people come to coaching because they’re an introvert, but it is an aspect of personality that can surface in a number of different ways, or sit behind some of the issues that coachees might want to tackle with you.

In this episode we explore what introversion is, how you might recognise an introverted client and what some of the challenges might be for your introverted coachees. We talk about how you might work with someone who has an introversion preference and even have some strategies for thriving as an introvert in the workplace.

Also, if you’re an introvert, we will explain some of the reasons why you might have a headstart in becoming an excellent coach.

12 Jul 2024Episode 64: Transformational Coaching for Lifestyle Medicine. What is it all about?00:16:30

Here at Your Coaching Journey, we have been training doctors to be transformational coaches on the Doctors’ Transformational Coaching Diploma for the past five years and this continues to be our flagship training programme.

More recently we have adapted our learning offering and created a Transformational Coaching Diploma for Lifestyle Medicine. On this programme we train doctors who are interested in lifestyle medicine and health coaching to become transformational coaches. This course has an emphasis on working with people around behaviour changes that lead to improved health and wellbeing. The programme has proved tremendously popular, and we have new cohorts starting regularly throughout the year.

In this episode we provide a brief introduction to what common benefits the two programmes have for learners and set out elements that differentiate the two courses.

07 Jul 2023Episode 11: Imposter Syndrome00:32:29

In this episode we are exploring a topic that we both notice showing up a lot in the coaching room. It’s also a phenomenon that we have both found ourselves experiencing at various times. There’s also a very good chance that you have some experience of it yourself. We’re talking about Imposter Syndrome.

Research suggests that between 70 and 84% of people engaging a coach experience feeling like an imposter.  It’s therefore helpful to reflect on what is meant by the term ‘imposter syndrome’ and to consider what approaches you might adopt to support your clients when they bring it in to the coaching room.

07 Jun 2024Episode 59: Coaching Tools – Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs00:27:54

“It’s like Maslow’s ‘Hierarchy of Needs’, isn’t it?” is a rhetorical question often posed in discussions around human needs. Maslow’s model of behaviour is one of the most oft-cited models of human psychology. Images of the pyramid that is usually used to illustrate Maslow’s  hierarchy are peppered throughout social media channels.

Very few people ever delve into Maslow’s hierarchy, beyond a cursory glance at the model and a sage nod of the head, before they scroll onto a kitten being frightened by a cucumber, but the notion is worth exploring further.

That’s exactly what we do in this episode of the podcast, as well as exploring an entirely different model of human needs, which may be just as valid. We’ll also talk about how you might approach the model from a coaching perspective.

As we also often say on the podcast, all models are wrong, but some are useful, so have a listen and decide for yourself how useful Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is within a coaching conversation.

07 Feb 2025Episode 94: Coaching Challenge – Intuition00:35:36

Many coaches consider themselves to be intuitive coaches? We see it quite a lot in marketing literature and on social media. But what does it really mean in the coaching room? Is it really a phenomenon?

Here at Your Coaching Journey we have had some interesting discussions on the topic of intuition over the years and we don’t always see eye to eye. Tom takes more of a  psychological approach to life and coaching and Helen is more at home in the world of spirituality, so there are some differences in the way we approach intuition.

That said, there is some common ground, and in this episode we share our thoughts, have a healthy debate and see where we end up in our thinking about being an intuitive coach.

We will be regularly discussing some of the widely held coaching beliefs, common coaching practices and challenges around coaching that are often pondered and debated. In this episode we will be exploring what happens when we ask our coachees closed questions and pondering whether it’s ever okay to do so. Well also be discussing asking multiple questions, asking leading questions and asking under what circumstances you might choose to ask your coachee the question, ‘Why?’

10 Jan 2025Episode 90: Coaching Tools – Six Thinking Hats00:30:52

In a bid to help our coachees generate new thinking, it might be useful to introduce them to a coaching tool called ‘The Six Thinking Hats’, which was created by Dr. Edward De Bono, a Maltese physician who is probably best known for introducing the world to the concept of lateral thinking.

In this podcast episode we explore what ‘The Six Thinking Hats’ offers to the world of coaching and give our thoughts on why it is such a useful model to generate new thinking and new perspectives in the coaching room.

We even play out a little vignette of a coaching session for a GP looking to introduce a new initiative into her practice. I don’t think we’ll be winning any awards for our acting, but it might help to hear how the thinking hats could be used.

Edward De Bono’s hats were, of course, metaphorical, but the use of actual hats is always optional.

26 Apr 2024Episode 53: Coaching Topics – Motivation00:31:06

On our podcast we regularly explore the topics that coachees might bring to a coaching conversation.

One such topic that shows up a lot in our coaching is motivation or, more specifically, a lack of it. Coachees are often asking how they can feel more motivated, or how we can motivate them.

What we often find is that those same coachees who are struggling with their motivation will provide us with evidence of actions that they do feel motivated to take.

Sometimes uncovering the motivation they say they’re lacking is just a matter of increasing their awareness and developing their understanding of what’s going on for them.

In this episode we journey through some of the psychological theories and frameworks around motivation and explore how they could be useful for our coachees, and also for us as coaches.

19 Jul 2024Episode 65: Coaching Approaches: Clean Language00:33:43

In Episode 52 of the podcast, we talked about using metaphor in coaching and briefly touched on the coaching approach known as Clean Language.

In this episode we take a deeper dive into the ‘Clean Language’ approach and explore its origins. We also take a look at what distinguishes it from other coaching approaches and explore some of Clean Language’s strengths and weaknesses.

We know that reflecting back the coachee’s own words in a coaching session often proves more powerful than paraphrasing, and the ‘Clean Language’ approach takes this approach to another level. In using the client's own terminology, a clean language coach builds on their choice of words to elicit metaphors and a metaphorical landscape. In this way they allow the coachee to think differently, and gain new insights, about themself and their situation.

During this conversation we will explore what the ‘Clean Language’ approach sounds like, how it is constructed and what we might draw from it to weave into a more integrative approach to coaching.

09 Aug 2024Episode 68: Interview – Dr. Liz Donovan00:32:39

In this episode we are joined by the delightful Dr Liz Donovan who has had a stellar career as a paediatric consultant and neonatologist, as well as being the Director of Medical Education at University Hospital Southampton. Liz came out of retirement to return to Southampton to work on a very special project, supporting medics through a coaching programme.

The Doctors’ Development Unit offers support to senior clinicians within the trust. A pool of consultants have been trained as coaches by us here at Your Coaching Journey and are making good use of their coaching skills in their work with their consultant colleagues.

Liz has been heading up the coaching consultant team at Southampton, and has been delighted with the results of the coaching that has been conducted there. An independent evaluation of the effectiveness of the coaching within the trust has recently been carried out. The evaluation revealed some remarkable findings in terms of the social return on the investment that has been made and the efficacy of the coaching.

Liz will be sharing some of the report’s findings with us, along with her own reflections on the art of coaching.

29 Dec 2023Episode 36: Coaching Approaches: Gestalt Coaching00:32:25

On our transformational coaching diploma we explore many different approaches to coaching and the Gestalt approach is one of them.

It is an approach that lends itself to working in a transformational way with the coachee and is very much about helping them to become more who they are. In being more who they are, the coachee can start to bring about the change they wish to see more easily.

And if they bring about the change they would like to see in a way that is aligned with who they are, the coachee is likely to find that their life makes a lot more sense to them.

In this episode we explore what Gestalt Coaching is and when it is useful to use a Gestalt approach. We will also be taking a look at some of the Gestalt techniques that are used within the coaching room.

06 Dec 2024Episode 85: Coaching Topics – Social Health00:28:06

Our social connections are vital to our wellbeing as human beings. Every model of wellbeing has relationships as one of its components but it very rarely gets talked about directly with patients, clients or coachees. We talk about physical health and mental health, but social health tends to get overlooked.

Much of the deep thinking that’s been dedicated to the issue, from Aristotle to Brené Brown, recognises that it’s the deeper connections that we have with people that are the most important. But how do we talk to coachees about their social health and support them in giving thought to navigating their relationship landscape and strengthening some of those human bonds.

In this episode we explore some of the research and developing ideas around social health, We also discuss ways in which we might start to have meaningful conversations with our coachees about their own social health.

01 Mar 2024Episode 45: Challenging Coaching: Is Ikigai A Myth?00:15:50

We regularly see psychological and coaching models being shared on social media, in blogs and discussions, and sometimes the sharing sets our teeth on edge.

“What’s the cause of this mild irritation?” you may ask.

Well we like to try to get our information sharing right and we carry out plenty of research around the subjects we talk about on our podcast. But we know that not everyone does the same. So when we know that information is being misrepresented or misinterpreted in some way, we have a slight reaction to it.

Ikigai is one of those models that has become a phenomenon online in a way that’s not particularly helpful.

In this episode we would like to do a little mythbusting around Ikigai and help to ensure that you, as a coach, are sharing the right information with your clients. We will talk about the origins of the diagram, why it’s not Ikigai, and what Ikigai actually is.

02 Feb 2024Episode 41: Coaching Approaches: Neuroscience in Coaching00:25:53

Firstly, just to be clear, we are not neuroscientists! However, we do know that having some awareness of key elements of neuroscience can help us to support our clients well.

In this episode we explore our understanding of the disciplines that underpin neuroscience and the complex nature of the interactions of a number of different elements of our physiological neural make-up. We take a look at how we might use some awareness of the brain and body’s reactions to events and how we might conduct a little neuro-education with our coachee around the topic.

In this very brief overview of neuroscience, we provide a taster on the subject to whet your appetite so that you are inspired to explore the subject further.

We also share our thoughts on the very limited number of neuroscience research studies available to us involving coaches and what they might be telling us.

03 May 2024Episode 54: Coaching Tools – The Johari Window00:22:06

Coaching often revolves around helping someone to raise their self-awareness, and really start to understand their personality, their values, their patterns of behaviour, their emotional responses, their strengths, as well as their vulnerabilities and weaknesses.

Coaching is also commonly focused on the coachee’s interactions with others, what they choose to share with those around them, how they are perceived by others, and how they navigate their relationships in an authentic way.

In this episode we explore a tool that might help us facilitate this exploration for our coachees. It is a model that supports coachees as they develop personal insight and become aware of how they are perceived.

Join us as we take a look through the Johari Window.

11 Apr 2025Episode 103: Coaching Approaches – Systemic Coaching00:21:00

To borrow some words from a famous philosopher, ‘No coachee is an island’.

We all exist within some kind of system, whether it’s in the workplace, within our social lives, or within a family. In the coaching room there will always be influences and echoes of the coachee’s system as they talk through their situation, their experiences and their desired outcomes.

In Gestalt we talk about the contact boundary, where we meet our environment and where our environment meets us, and there is a constant interplay between the two. One cannot fail to have an impact on the other.

In this episode, we take a look at systemic coaching, an approach that acknowledges and explores the dynamics of the systems within which the coachee resides.

16 Jun 2023Episode 8: The Solution-Focused Approach to Coaching00:20:51

In this episode we introduce solution-focused coaching. It’s an approach that is particularly popular in organisations as it seeks to move the coachee quickly to a solution and a way forward.

It’s also a coaching approach that doctors tend to feel comfortable with as they are very used to taking a history, considering symptoms, diagnosing a condition, and offering advice on a way forward.

Within a coaching conversation the challenges for doctors include refraining from offering advice, allowing the coachee to generate their own options and deciding for themselves how they might move forward.

You might recognise some of the elements of the solution-focused approach that we discuss and perhaps even use them in your own coaching without realising where they originated.

08 Dec 2023Episode 33: A Coaching Demo00:24:51

If you’ve ever looked for demonstrations of coaching online you may have noticed that there aren’t many particularly good ones out there.

When looking for great examples of coaching, the two of us are always looking to see exquisite attention and lots of lovely space. We’re hoping to hear crisp open questions, accurate summarising and reflecting back and the coach resisting being directive. We’d like to observe the coachee being supported in making sense of their own world and generating some new thinking.

Tired of searching for the holy grail we thought we’d create our own demonstration and so, in this episode, we engaged in a genuine coaching session.

During the coaching Helen gave some thought to a dilemma that had been on her mind for some time. The conversation resulted in Helen making a decision, which she has now taken action on, allowing her to move towards her desired objective.

During the coaching session Tom utilises the TOM’S CODE model to guide the coaching process. This is the model that we introduce everyone to at the beginning of our Transformational Coaching Diploma training.

TOM’S CODE provides a framework to hang the coaching on. It’s not meant to be prescriptive and, at times, the coach will flex their use of the model in order to respond to the coachee.

We train coaches to work in a transformational way, looking to bring about awareness, empowerment and autonomy. TOM’S CODE focuses on bringing about the change that the coachee wants to see.

02 Aug 2024Episode 67: Coaching Topics – Burnout00:29:19

On our podcast we regularly explore topics that coachees might bring to a coaching conversation.

One such topic is ‘burnout’ and as with many topics that arrive at the door of the transformational coach,  this is an important topic that affects many members of the medical community.

Burnout is a complex phenomenon, and we might well be coaching individuals who are at different stages in the burnout journey. They may be feeling stressed and concerned about ending up burnt out; they may be at the point of almost burning out; or they may have already burnt out.

There is a place for coaching in all of these situations and in this podcast we begin to explore the concept of burnout, how it is defined and measured, and how we might go about supporting someone around their relationship with burnout.

Join us for a fascinating conversation about burnout and how coaching might provide a useful intervention for those who are experiencing the symptoms that arise at the different stages of burnout.

09 Feb 2024Episode 42: Coaching Tools – The SCARF Model00:32:06

Following on from our episode about neuroscience in coaching in this episode we focus on the SCARF model, which has its origins in social neuroscience.

SCARF was developed as a model by leadership expert David Rock and helps us to focus our attention on an organising  principle in the brain; to minimise threat and maximise reward. Rock’s assertion is that this principle leads us to move away from threat and move towards reward. Furthermore Rock identifies five domains that produce either a threat or reward response in individuals within any social group,

Assisting a coachee in exploring their situation through this model can help them to gain new perspectives, understand themselves and their reactions better, modify their own thinking and behaviours, and understand the responses of others.

25 Oct 2024Episode 79: Coaching Topics – Values00:25:16

Values are an important aspect of coaching and integral to increasing a coachee’s self awareness and sense of identity.

When responding to questions about values a coachee may not be able to tell their coach instantly what their own values are. It may take some reflection of them to come up with them. Their values may not become apparent until they are challenged or trampled on. Alternatively, they may be keenly aware of their most important values and actively seek to live a life aligned with them.

We know that working with a coachee around understanding what their values are and how they are showing up in their life, can have a dramatic impact on their views of the world, and themselves, as well as the coaching outcomes they achieve.

In this episode we explore what values are, why they’re important, and how to work with them in the coaching room.

04 Apr 2025Episode 102: Coaching Challenge – The Grey Space Between Coaching And Therapy00:26:44

Do you worry about your coaching crossing over in to therapy?

We tend to find that our coaching doctors worry about this, perhaps more so than non-medical people who enter the world of coaching.

In this episode we explore the grey area on the borders of counselling and coaching, including how to navigate it. We will share our own experiences of situations in the coaching room where something other than coaching is required. We hope to set your minds at rest, and provide you with some more understanding, or at least to shine a little light into the grey.

15 Nov 2024Episode 82: Coaching Challenge – Common Themes and Challenges00:35:05

Having trained over 250 doctors to coach and with another 50 or so currently participating in our training programmes, we have noticed that they do have some wonderful transferable skills. We’ve also noticed that most of the doctors that come to learn to coach have some common challenges that crop up for them when it comes to learning to coach.

Some of these challenges stem from the personalities of our coaching doctors and some stem from their education, training and the constraints of the system they work within.

In this episode we follow up on Episode 78 of the podcast where we explored Personality Profiling. We talk through some of our observations of the challenges that stem from the personality differences and individual working styles of those that we train. Tom also has some interesting statistics to share about our coaching doctor population.

14 Jun 2024Episode 60: Coaching Topics – Change00:17:58

On our podcast we regularly explore the topics that coachees might bring to a coaching conversation. One such topic is ‘change’; a huge topic that encompasses many different potential areas of a coachee’s life.

Sometimes, the coaching might be focused on a change that is happening around the coachee or it might be a change that the coachee wants to bring about for themself.

Either way, everyone responds to change differently and there is a broad spectrum of how impactful and challenging change can be.

In this episode we explore how we might help our coachees to navigate change in their personal or professional lives, whether it’s change they want to see or change that they feel is being done to them. We touch on Kübler Ross’s model of change and also the work of Swedish psychologist, Claes Janssen who developed the Change House model to describe the different rooms that someone might enter as they move through a period of change.

Join us for an interesting exploration of how we might start to talk about change with our coachees.

26 Jul 2024Episode 66: Coaching Tools – How do we use them in the coaching room without being directive?00:23:22

Here at Your Coaching Journey we believe that the primary role of a coach is to facilitate the coachee’s own thinking around their situation, allowing them to gain new perspectives and consider their options for moving towards their desired outcome.

Coaching is about encouraging the coachee to find their own answers, rather than the coach providing them with them.

So how do we square the non-directive approach with the concept of the coach introducing coaching tools, models and exercises.

In this episode we explore the idea of being directive about the coaching process without being directive about the way that the coachee is thinking. We have no wish to advise the coachee about their situation, the options they have, the decision they might make, or the options they might take.

What we are interested in is deepening the pool of meaning for the coachee, widening their perspective and offering models and exercises that generate new thinking.

In this episode we discuss how we might go about achieving this fine balance of managing the coaching conversation, introducing the coachee to new concepts and remaining non-directive with regard to the content of the coaching conversation.

14 Feb 2025Episode 95: Coaching Approaches – Coaching Outdoors00:34:53

From a ‘walk and talk’ in nature to the metaphors of the landscape, coaching outdoors means many things to many coaches. In this episode Helen interviews Anna-Marie Watson, host of the Coaching Outdoors podcast about this multi faceted approach to coaching and how she got started with it.

An ex-Army officer, Anna Marie is never happier than when she is outdoors. She is an accredited coach and coach supervisor who loves to move her coaching away from a Zoom window and the confines of four walls and take her conversations with coachees into nature.

Join Helen and Anna-Marie as they explore coaching through an alfresco lens and offer a different, airier, perspective on coaching conversations that we hope will pique your interest and generate some new thinking about the way you coach.

And of course, if you want to give it a try, you can join us in some outdoor coaching on the eve of our coaching conference in April 2025.

Issues around confidence come up in the coaching room regularly. And it’s a common topic that new coaches want to understand more about working with.

Feeling more confident takes time, and arguably more than time spent thinking about it. You might be wondering what approach to use, what tools might be helpful, and whether asking questions really can unlock the secrets of feeling and acting in a more confident way?

In this episode we explore how we might work with coachees to help them take steps to understand and improve their confidence and find out what Helen’s top tips are on this intriguing topic.

03 Jan 2025Episode 89: Coaching Approaches – Narrative Coaching00:28:18

We believe that coaching is all about helping our coachees to generate new thinking. However, in order to generate new thinking, it’s useful for our coachees to know what they’re already thinking and what has led them to tell the stories they’re telling.

There is power, wisdom and insight sitting within the stories our coachees tell, as well as contradiction, tension and dissonance, if only we took the time to really listen and be truly present.

Narrative coaching taps into our coachee’s storytelling, seeking to uncover the beliefs, the assumptions, the internal struggles and the different parts that they are playing. Through this fascinating approach to coaching, we can start to explore the tales our coachee’s tell and start to discern what is a helpful story and when, perhaps, a better, alternative story might be advantageous for the coachee to tell.

In this episode of our podcast, we explore what narrative coaching is, where it comes from and how it can be used when helping coachees to explore the situations they face and the stories they are telling themselves.

19 Apr 2024Episode 52: Coaching Approaches: Using Metaphors In Coaching00:30:01

Metaphors are an aspect of language that most of us will happily use until the cows come home. However, because we are so used to building metaphor into our speech it passes us by, uncovered, and we are denied the lightbulb moments that might guide us if we were to wake up and smell the coffee.

In this episode, we serve up a way of plucking metaphors from a coachee’s language and putting them under the microscope, thus adding colour to our coaching tapestry. This may allow our coachees to mine a rich vein of awareness that could have remained buried without this approach. Personal transformations will bloom, hurdles will turn to stepping stones, and new thinking will percolate as we shine a light on the metaphors within our coaching conversations.

15 Mar 2024Episode 47: Coaching Tools – Journalling00:25:26

Whilst journalling isn’t a tool that you would necessarily wish to use in the coaching room, it can still be a useful concept to introduce to your coachees. Well, Helen thinks so anyway. Tom isn’t entirely convinced, but has his own ideas around when journalling might be useful.

In this episode Helen shares some reflections on journaling and also describes her own experience of keeping a journal. She also introduces a journalling method that she would happily invite her coachees to try out.

While not entirely on board with the idea of regular journalling, Tom shares some insights into an alternative form of expressive writing that he has used with some success. As you will hear, we don’t always entirely agree on the topics we discuss, and think it would be rather strange if we did. We know that our differences make life in general, and our podcast conversations in particular, a little more interesting. Hopefully, our differences of opinion will generate some new thinking on your part too, as you explore coaching topics for yourself and settle on your own views.

07 Mar 2025Episode 98: Recommended Read for Coaches00:28:04

We fully recognise that you don’t learn to coach by reading a book; you have to practice coaching to improve your craft.

However, we have both read a vast array of coaching books and have another sizeable collection on our Kindles, waiting for us to find the time to explore. We also have our favourites that we continue to dip into to remind us of theories, tools and techniques that we have encountered.

In addition, we love a good book recommendation, and are often asked for them by our trainees. So, in this episode, we are exploring some of the books that could be added to your ‘to be read’ list, in relation to different coaching approaches - and we throw in a few extra tombs that aren’t really coaching books, but we love them!

10 Nov 2023Episode 29: Challenges in Coaching: Challenge in the coaching room00:24:59

We will regularly be devoting a podcast episode to discussing some widely held coaching beliefs, common coaching practices and coaching challenges that are often pondered and debated.

Today we are talking about challenging our coachees. Coaching is a supportive space and we engage with our coachees with empathy and positive regard. So, what place does challenge have in the coaching room? Should we ever challenge our coachees? If we do challenge them, what might we challenge them about and how might we go about doing that. What are some of the potential risks of challenging a coachee?

Join us to find out what we think and once you’ve listened in let us know your own thoughts.

23 Aug 2024Episode 70: Supervision00:32:00

What is coaching supervision and why would I want to engage with it as a coach?

Coaching is an unregulated industry and, as we have discussed on previous episodes, it is down to coaching bodies and individual coaches to take responsibility for the professionalism and self-regulation of coaching as a whole.

Coaching supervision is one way of helping you as a coach to reflect on the quality of your coaching, your own professional development and your progress in the world of coaching. Coaching supervision is a protected space for confidential and supportive conversations about your role as a coach and your interactions with coachees.

Join us in this episode to find out more about supervision, why you might want to engage with it, and what the practice of receiving supervision entails.

08 Mar 2024Episode 46: Coaching Approaches: Transformational Coaching00:25:07

In our journey through the different approaches to coaching, we’d like to introduce you to Transformational Coaching.

Transformational Coaching is a flexible and integrative approach that allows coaches to explore a variety of topics and concerns with their coachees and to be agile in the coaching room. This agility enables coaches to move smoothly between different ways of being with their coachees as required. The integrative nature of Transformational Coaching provides a variety of tools and techniques that have their roots in psychology, are often evidence backed and encourage coaches to create their own unique approach to coaching.

In this episode, we will share what Transformational Coaching means to us, what it involves, and why we offer this approach in our Doctors’ Transformational Coaching Diploma.

22 Sep 2023Episode 22: Coaching Tools: Conflict Style Matrix00:25:00

Whether we view tension within a work or social relationship as conflict, or just the other person being awkward, we will all have our own way of approaching these potentially difficult situations. In this episode we explore how you might help your coachees to understand their approach to difficult situations with others.

A great tool to use when discussing conflict styles with your coachees is the Conflict Styles Matrix, which stems from the work of Thomas and Kilmann.

We’ll also look at how a coachee might flex their own conflict styles in different situations and how this might lead to them experiencing more positive outcomes.

21 Feb 2025Episode 96: Coaching Tools – The SPACE model00:25:51

We have previously discussed Cognitive Behavioural Coaching (CBC) on the podcast and touched on a couple of the useful coaching models that originate in this approach.  In this episode we explore the SPACE model, which is a great tool for helping coachees to dive into the way that they’re perceiving their situation and allowing them to gain some perspective.

The SPACE model, often referred to as the hot cross bun model, is an accessible tool that can inform our coaching questions, helping our coachees to explore the ways in which they’re reacting to events. It can also be used explicitly to support coachees to find new ways to see their world and explore different ways of being in the future.

Listen in while we take you through this simple yet powerful model.

22 Nov 2024Episode 83: Coaching Approaches – Transpersonal Coaching00:29:03

Transpersonal Coaching, which is often referred to as Spiritual Coaching, sits on the periphery of mainstream coaching, and is often regarded as a little bit too woo for some coaches to consider.

In this episode we explore what it is, what it’s not and what it could be. We also consider why some people might choose to engage with Transpersonal Coaching, either as a coaching approach in its own right, or as an approach to borrow from, weaving elements of it into an integrated, holistic approach.

With a long held interest in exploring various spiritual philosophies, and developing her own beliefs and spirituality, Helen introduces the key themes of this approach and gives us her thoughts on it. Tom will offer his own perspective and some gentle challenges to the concept of Transpersonal Coaching.

Resources:

This is Helen’s idea of the elements that make up spiritual or transpersonal coaching.

12 Apr 2024Episode 51: Challenging Coaching: The Kubler-Ross Change Curve00:13:57

We regularly see psychological and coaching models being shared on social media, in blogs and discussions, and sometimes the sharing sets our teeth on edge.

We’ve mentioned this before when we explored the myth of Ikigai, and in this episode, we’d like to air some thoughts on a model often shared on social media, Kübler-Ross Change Curve.

In this episode we would like to engage in a little mythbusting around where this model comes from, why it’s unhelpful to call it the Kübler-Ross Change Curve, and under what circumstances talking about change in terms of curve may, or may not be useful.

30 Aug 2024Episode 71: Coaching Approaches: Somatic Coaching00:29:05

Our bodies provide the perfect vessel in which to hold our stress and we will feel all sorts of indications that this is happening for us when we’re in struggle. But our bodies also offer us some insights into what else is going on for us. Somatic markers provide us with information that we will often ignore when it would be wise to be mindful of them. While we might not choose to act on a gut feeling, noticing what we notice about our physiological sensations can become an important part of our decision making process, and can be so too for our coachees.

In this episode we take a look at somatic coaching, or embodied coaching, in which coachees are encouraged to go within, to the wisdom held in their own body.

Somatic coaching can be practised on its own, or as part of an integrative approach, to great effect.

Listen in to this episode of the Your Coaching Journey podcast for some ideas on how you could use somatic coaching with your coachees and how that might improve their outcomes for them.

31 May 2024Episode 58: Coaching Approaches: Time To Think00:24:30

For us, coaching is all about allowing our coachees to have time to think about their situation, their desired outcomes and their ideas for achieving those outcomes.

We know that being truly present with our coachees and holding that space for them while they think to the end of their thoughts is invaluable. This is where their new thinking is generated.

‘Time To Think’ is also the name of a particular coaching approach devised by Nancy Kline that has some unique characteristics and a very specific structure when coaching individuals.

In this episode we explore what the ‘Time to Think’ approach looks like, what we see as the benefits of the approach and also what we perceive to be its limitations

01 Dec 2023Episode 32: Coaching Topics: Do Relationships Belong in the Coaching Room?00:31:32

Some coaches are more comfortable with addressing relationship issues with coachees than others, but the topic is bound to come up eventually in the coaching room.

Whether it’s managing a tricky relationship at work, or navigating our communication with those around us, relationships will surface in the coaching room and it’s useful to think about how we will handle them as a coach.

We are all social creatures and none of us live in isolation. Our coachee’s relationships are an enduring feature of their life journey and they are going to hit some bumps in the road. As coaches it is important that we recognise that being able to hold the space for coachees as they discuss their relationships is an essential part of our role in working holistically.

In this episode we discuss what coaches might choose to do when relationships are at the centre of a coaching conversation.

08 Nov 2024Episode 81: Interview – Dr. Jo Hartley00:27:00

In this episode Helen chats with Dr Jo Hartley, a delegate on one of our early Doctors’ Transformational Coaching Diploma courses.

Jo is a former Emergency Medicine Consultant now working as a career and life coach for doctors. She works with doctors in training in her local professional support and wellbeing service and runs a business delivering workshops and coaching for hospital consultants.

Helen caught up with Jo to find out about her journey into the world of self employed coaching, her favourite coaching tools and questions, and what learning to coach has given her. Jo also has the unique perspective of having trained with us whilst also participating in an ILM5 coaching course, and shares some of the differences that she found between the two.

05 Jan 2024Episode 37: Coaching Tools: The Gestalt Cycle of Experience00:32:37

Following on from our exploration of Gestalt coaching in our previous episode, in this podcast we explore one of the models that originates in Gestalt, the Cycle of Experience (CoE), in greater detail.

The CoE is a Gestalt model that illustrates how individuals move through their experience of a situation. The model incorporates different stages that people might move through in order to complete the cycle and move on to a different experience.

On this podcast we explore the CoE model and identify each of the different stages that someone could be at when they arrive in the coaching room. Having an awareness of the CoE helps coaches to meet coachees where they are and work with them at that stage of the cycle.

Increasing a coachee’s own awareness of where they are in the CoE and inviting them to really take notice of what they are experiencing in the here and now of a coaching session can be really powerful.

The CoE is also useful in helping coachee’s to understand why they might be ‘stuck’ at one of the stages of the cycle and struggling to move forward.

If you’re interested in helping coachees to understand their situation better and to increase their awareness of how they are connecting with their world, the CoE model could be really useful. It will also help you to support your coachees in gaining an acceptance of who they are in the current moment and exploring how they might move forward towards completing the cycle of experience.

01 Sep 2023Episode 19: Challenges in Coaching: Do Emotions Belong In The Coaching Room?00:26:16

We will regularly be devoting a podcast episode to discussing some  widely held coaching beliefs, common coaching practices and coaching challenges that are often pondered and debated.

In this episode we will be exploring emotions, and asking the question, Do they belong in the coaching room?

Some people worry about what to do when a coachee becomes emotional, or have concerns that it might a need for therapy, but we believe that emotions will always be present in the coaching room. So, what can you do to prepare for times when emotions bubble to the surface, and how might you handle emotions when they show up in the coaching space?

11 Oct 2024Episode 77: Coaching Approaches – Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)00:21:35

We sometimes get asked if we teach NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) on our Doctors’ Transformational Coaching Diploma and the answer is mostly no, and also, a little bit, yes. For this reason we thought it would be useful to have a conversation about it on our podcast.

We are both trained and licensed NLP practitioners, and although we gained something from our training, neither of us actually practise NLP.

We do, however, weave some of our learning into our individual ways of working and include some elements that you might find on an NLP course in our own training, although we credit the original source of those elements which, more often than not, is not NLP.

In this episode we explore what NLP is; its limitations; its uses in the coaching room; and, as always, our own thoughts on the subject. approach within our programmes.

04 Oct 2024Episode 76: Coaching Challenge – Ethics00:27:39

As coaches we are having conversations that matter, and discussing topics that are important to our coachees. With any conversations of importance thought is required around how we hold that space for our coachees and how we show up as coaches. Coaching is an unregulated industry and it therefore falls to coaching bodies to try to ensure that its members act with professionalism, integrity and an ethical approach.

In this episode we explore the subject of ethics and what an ethical approach might look like to coaches within their own practice. We make reference to the Global Code of Ethics, which many coaching organisations are signed up to. The code offers some guidance to ethical considerations that coachees might be grappling with.

08 Sep 2023Episode 20: Motivational Interviewing00:24:41

In this episode we will be talking about an intervention that represents a bridge between medical consultations and the coaching world: Motivational Interviewing (MI).

MI is a technique that most medical professionals will have some awareness of, as it has its origins in the treatment of alcohol addiction.

We’ll be exploring what it is; what are the potential benefits; and how it might be seen as a step towards taking a coaching approach to behaviour change. We’ll also be discussing MI’s limitations and how it might be improved upon or integrated with other coaching approaches.

24 May 2024Episode 57: Challenging Coaching: How much should I charge for my coaching?00:22:34

“How much should I charge for my coaching?”

This is a common question that we hear from new coaches and sadly, there isn’t a succinct answer. It can feel like a minefield when it comes to pricing, and we’re all looking for that ‘goldilocks’ amount that feels right for us, and also is acceptable to the coachees that we are attracting to our coaching space.

We can’t tell you what you should be charging for your coaching, but we can help you reach your own right answer? On this podcast we talk through the different elements involved, from overcoming a reluctance to charge anything, to getting to grips with the cost of providing a coaching service, and then gaining an understanding of the true value of your coaching.

Join us for an exploration of a coaching issue that we know many coaches find challenging.

21 Mar 2025Episode 100: A Bit of a Celebration of our first 100 episodes00:32:59

We’re pretty amazed that we have managed to produce 100 episodes of this podcast, and even more impressed that so many of you are listening to us rambling on every week. It seems that we accompany many dog walks and morning runs.

It fills us with joy every time we receive a message from someone letting us know how much they’ve enjoyed and benefited from listening.

In this episode we take a moment to celebrate, and to reflect. We’ve gone back through the archive of interviews with our coaching doctors that we have had the pleasure of creating over the last two years and remind ourselves of the variety of coaching tools that they love to use.

Enjoy the look back!

27 Dec 2024Episode 88: Coaching Challenge – Unconscious Bias00:25:48

We love that coaching helps our coachees to generate new thinking. If you’re self-aware as a coach and continue to engage in reflective practice your coaching conversations are going to help you to develop your own thinking too.

But what happens when your unconscious thought processes start to get in the way of your own performance in the coaching room, and your coachee’s unconscious prohibits their ability to think through their situation in an open and expansive way.

In this episode we explore unconscious bias and how the phenomenon might impact us as coaches, as well as limiting our coachee’s ability to do some really good thinking. The problem with unconscious biases is that we don’t know we have them, even though we recognise that other people are subject to them; a phenomenon known as the bias blindspot.

We believe that unconscious bias is a fascinating subject to shine a light on and to identify some rather interesting specific biases. So, we’ll be doing a little bit of that as well as exploring how we, as coaches, can remain open to the possibility of us bringing our own biases into the coaching room. We’ll also discuss how you are able to introduce the idea of unconscious bias to your coachees, allowing them to consciously bring some of their own biases to light and start to unpick them. Awareness is the first step to being able to mindfully dispel some of our more unhelpful unconscious thinking.

We hope you enjoy the conversation and that it starts your own journey of self-discovery around your unconscious biases.

06 Sep 2024Episode 72: Coaching Tools – The Drama Triangle00:29:17

Back in episode 30 we spoke about using Transactional Analysis (TA) in the coaching room, and in episode 31 we explored one of the TA models, the Parent-Adult-Child model.

Another coaching model that originates from TA is Karpman’s Drama Triangle, so we thought it was time we introduced this model to you as well.

The Drama Triangle offers another way to explore the coachee’s perception of their inter-personal relationship dynamics and behaviour patterns. It is an extremely useful model to be aware of as a coach, and to introduce to your coachee to help raise awareness about their view of their situation.

It is useful to demonstrate some caution when using the model in the coaching room, but it is a great way of helping the coachee gain a new perspective on the roles they’re playing in their relationships.

In this episode we explore the Drama Triangle and how we might use it to its full advantage in the coaching room.

29 Sep 2023Episode 23: Coaching Topic: Resilience00:28:55

Resilience is a favourite topic of Tom’s. So much so, he has explored, researched, taught, and written about resilience for a number of years now. So, what better person to ask about how we might explore resilience, or a perceived lack of resilience, when our clients start discussing it in the coaching room?

In this episode we explore the various forms that resilience might take; what it might look like; what the factors are that will be influencing the resilience of our coachees; and how we might help our coachees maintain or replenish their resilience through good times and bad.

Tom will also be sharing his own TELEGRAM model of resilience with us.

05 Apr 2024Episode 50: The Transformational Coaching Diploma00:22:55

We can’t quite believe that we’ve arrived at the milestone of recording 50 episodes of the Your Coaching Journey podcast! We thought we might run out of things to say to one another after half a dozen, but here we are, still having great conversations about coaching almost a year on from recording our first episode.

We’ve loved every minute of it. More than that, we’ve loved hearing from you that you love it too.

As it’s our 50th episode we thought we’d indulge in a little self-promotion, which we seldom do, so this week we’re talking about how our Transformational Coaching Diploma programme came to exist, what makes it different to many coaching courses and what we love about running it.

If you would like to find out more once you’ve listened to this episode, do get in touch, or if you have a colleague who is interested in learning to coach just direct them to our website https://yourcoachingjourney.com/

18 Oct 2024Episode 78: Coaching Tools – Psychometrics and Personality Profiling00:24:27

It’s easy to think that everyone views the world in the same way that we do. Understanding that people have different aspects to their personality that might mean they think or behave in a different way is essential in gaining perspective on situations and relationships.

In this episode we explore the psychology behind a number of psychometrics that may prove useful in the coaching room. Asking a coachee to complete a personality questionnaire and then working through their report with them can be a great way to increase their self-awareness and also their awareness of the individual personality differences that others might have.

Tom has a degree in psychology and is trained in a number of different psychometric profiling tools so is well placed to steer this discussion and help us to gain some new insights about the topic.

28 Jun 2024Episode 62: Listeners’ Questions #700:13:58

From time to time we devote an episode to questions about coaching that have been asked by our listeners.

In this episode we are discussing the requirements around supervision for coaches, tools you can use to explore a coachee’s core values, and what you would need to consider when thinking about group and team coaching, as opposed to one to one coaching.

If you have a question to ask about coaching and would like us to answer it for you on the podcast, do send us your questions, or even drop us a voice note of your question, and we’ll feature it on a future episode.

22 Mar 2024Episode 48: Coaching Topics – Finding Meaningful Purpose00:24:33

If you’re a regular listener to our podcast you will have noticed that we regularly discuss how we might deal with different topics that show up in the coaching room. This week we discussed working with coachees around meaning and purpose.

Coachees may not always come to coaching asking for support on finding meaningful purpose, but often they’ll talk about feeling stuck, feeling lost, or feeling as though they’re in a bit of a rut. At these times a conversation around what their purpose is and what is meaningful to them can encourage them to generate some new thinking about what might add more meaningful purpose to their life.

You might well have had times in your own life when you’ve had similar feelings and struggled to find a way through that time. Coaching conversations provide the perfect opportunity to open up this deeper thinking for the coachee.

In this episode we explore the concepts of meaning, purpose, and meaningful purpose, and what elements might contribute to the notion of living a meaningful life.

26 Jan 2024Episode 40: Challenging Coaching: Do we have to have goals in coaching?00:19:18

Coaching is so often seen as an intervention that supports the achievement of goals, and in this podcast we would like to challenge this belief. We will explore the idea that, whilst coaching is often concerned with goals, there is some much richer territory available to us in the coaching room.

A great deal of coaching training tends to start with goals and helping move coachees towards them and organisations tend to have a focus on goal achievement when commissioning coaching. In the coaching room, the coachee may bring a goal to coaching and may want to be coached around creating a plan to achieve the goal, but we have an opportunity as coaches to explore the ‘WHY?’ that sits behind the goal .

Beyond this the coaching space will hopefully evolve into a transformative space where new thinking can happen about deeper aspects of the coachee’s world.

If you think you need a goal to come to coaching you could be missing out on some powerful personal work. And if you’re a coach who would like to help people make bigger changes in their life, listen in as we explore this topic and discuss where we think the power of coaching truly sits.

24 Nov 2023Episode 31: Coaching Tools – The Parent – Adult – Child Model00:30:17

Following on from our last episode on Transactional Analysis, this episode focuses on the key model from the Transactional Analysis approach to coaching; the Parent – Adult – Child Model.

This is a model that will help us, as coaches, to understand the ego states that our coachee might be entering into at certain times during interactions with others.

It may also help us to talk to coachees about whether they are responding in an adult way to the here and now or are drawing on old, learned, patterns of response.

In addition, using the Parent - Adult – Child model might allow coachees to gain a different perspective on the behaviour of those that they interact with.

In this episode we look at the model in more detail and discuss how and when you might introduce it your clients.

13 Oct 2023Episode 25: Positive Psychology in Coaching00:30:26

Positive Psychology is a relatively new branch of psychology and is underpinned by a vast body of research studies. It is a huge topic, so in this episode we will be starting at the beginning and offering an introduction to positive psychology and its relationship to coaching. We’ll also be exploring three important elements of positive psychology; positive emotions; working with strengths; and the concept of flow, all of which have their place in coaching conversations.

28 Jul 2023Episode 14: The Cognitive Behavioural Approach To Coaching00:31:46

In this episode we introduce Cognitive Behavioural Coaching or CBC. It’s

an approach that brings together the practice of coaching and the

concepts and methods that underpin Cognitive Behavioural Psychology.

CBC offers a number of distinctive models and techniques that help

coaches to understand the barriers that coachees may be placing in

their own way.

Engaging with CBC allows coaches to support their coachees in

increasing their awareness of their limiting beliefs and unhelpful

thinking and looking at ways in which they can overcome and change

them.

On our podcast we regularly explore topics that coachees might bring to a coaching conversation.

One such topic is ‘Wellbeing’. In the last 10 years, Wellbeing has become a huge topic for discussion in many settings, including workplaces, schools and GP practices.

Wellbeing is a hugely diverse topic with many different elements and meanings assigned to it. So, whether you consider yourself a wellbeing coach or not, you are likely to come across clients who want to explore it in some way as a topic for coaching.

Join us as we discuss what wellbeing is, or could be, and how you might explore it with a client in the coaching room.

And, once you’ve listened, if this conversation has whetted your appetite for further exploration of Wellbeing in Coaching, then book yourself a place to join us at our Wellbeing Virtual Conference in October, when we will be running five different workshops around different aspects of wellbeing. You can book your place by clicking on this link.  Conference Booking

05 Jul 2024Episode 63: Challenges in Coaching: Accreditation - ‘What is it?’ and ‘Why would I want to apply for accreditation?’00:17:03

Accreditation - ‘What is it?’ and ‘Why would I want to apply for accreditation?’

These are questions that we are asked from time to time, and so we thought that we’d offer our thoughts on the matter in this episode of the podcast. While it’s not essential to be personally accredited as a coach, there are some real benefits for those who do apply for accreditation.

In her role as an accreditation assessor with the Association for Coaching, Helen is well-versed in the assessment criteria that applicants are expected to meet.  She is, therefore, well placed to answer your questions and concerns about accreditation and the accreditation process.

During this episode. Helen will provide the benefit of her wisdom and experience. She will also be offering you the inside track on how our Transformational Coaching Diploma supports you in the process of becoming accredited and will also let you have her top tip on getting started on the road to accreditation.

Resources:

Helen has created an online mini-masterclass on accreditation which you can find out more about here. While this is designed for our own graduates coming out of our Transformational Coaching Diplomas, much of it will be of use if you have qualified elsewhere.

14 Mar 2025Episode 99: Interview with Dr. Becky Howie00:33:32

We’re delighted that our Transformational Coaching Diploma for Lifestyle Medicine has resonated with so many doctors that have an interest in bringing about lifestyle change for their patients and coaching clients.

In this episode Tom chats with Dr Becky Howie, a delegate on the first cohort of our Transformational Coaching Diploma for Lifestyle Medicine.

Tom caught up with Becky to find out about her journey into the world of lifestyle medicine and coaching; her approach to coaching; her favourite coaching tools and questions; and what learning to coach has given her. 18 Apr 2025Episode 104: Coaching Tool – Transtheoretical Model of Change00:23:44

Transformational Coaching is all about helping our coachees achieve a change in their lives, whether that be in terms of making lifestyle changes, changing the dynamics of a relationship, or the coachee just changing their perspective.

Change is at the forefront of everything we do and in this podcast episode we’re exploring another model, which might just help us to explore the change process with our coachees. The Transtheoretical Model of Change has been used for half a century in the medical world in conversations around change.

Originally used in the context of addiction, the model is commonly used by medics exploring behavioural change relating to health. It also has its place in the coaching world when we’re trying to understand where our coachee is on the journey to making the changes they want to see.
