15 Nov 2018How To Turn Your Worship Team Into A Family - With Andrew Holt (The Belonging Co)00:29:44

In Episode 50, Brenton Miles sits down with his friend Andrew Holt, a worship leader, songwriter, and the Worship Pastor at The Belonging Co in Nashville, TN.

Building a team is one thing, but building a community of family members has a completely different approach as a leader... and Andrew has done an incredible job.

With many professional level musicians and touring artists on the team at The Belonging, the schedules can be pretty crazy at times, but there's one thing that stands out... there's a unified spirit within the team. Whether you're a producer, session player, or touring musician, wherever you go, there's a community and family right there with you, a phone call away, text away, or at times, even at your show ready to stand with you and pray over you. It goes way beyond the services on Sunday or Tuesday. It's family. 24/7.

In this episode, we talk a bit about Andrew's journey as a worship leader, how he got started at The Belonging, his experience co-writing songs for church, and some of the important lessons he's learned over the past few years.

04 Apr 2019Finding Your Unique Worship Sound with Jordan Holt00:36:12

How do you find your unique worship sound?! In episode 67, Brenton Miles and Jordan Holt (guitarist for Kari Jobe) cover 5 ways worship leaders and churches can begin to discover their individual sound in worship.

We have plenty of churches singing covers, plenty of churches matching what Hillsong and Bethel are doing, but is that what God really wants from your church?

God created us differently for a reason! And it’s time that we take that notion a lot more seriously.

We owe it to the world as Christians to be unique, to be inspiring. People are looking at the way we do things and ask themselves if they really want the life we live. So what changes are we willing to make to get their attention?

Don’t miss this episode!

28 May 2020Bringing Unity and Kingdom Mindset Amidst Racial Injustice00:33:09

There are no words that can capture the heartache we all feel after hearing of the unjustifiable killing of George Floyd.

Racism is evil. It should not exist. It is not from God.

It shouldn’t take video after video for our country to take responsibility for the amount of evil and prejudice that still exists in America today.

On Monday, May 25 in Minneapolis, 46-year-old George Floyd was killed by a white police officer who pinned him to the ground for over 8 minutes until he could no longer breathe. The encounter was caught on a viral video that has since sparked national outrage over the amount of racial injustice that still exists in this nation.

Our guest this week, Ryan Williams, is an incredibly gifted songwriter, worship pastor, and lead singer of the worship group River Valley Worship, a faith-filled collection of artists based out of River Valley Church, with locations all around the greater Minneapolis region

The timing of this podcast was nothing short of the work of the Holy Spirit, with Ryan’s home church just minutes from where George Floyd was killed and where the ever-growing riots are currently taking place.

In light of that, we felt led to completely scrap our original plan and talk about bringing unity and Kingdom mindset amidst racial injustice.

Ryan also shares how when writing their newest record, “Altars”, every edit and change they decided to make was perfectly orchestrated by the Holy Spirit. For such a time as this.

Don’t miss this powerful episode and be sure to listen to "Altars" by River Valley Worship now available!

13 Jun 2019Breaking the Cycle of Comparison with Katelyn Hill00:33:26

Now more than ever, it’s easy for worship leaders to compare themselves. Especially when we see so many other worship leaders touring, making albums, leading from a larger platform . . . we even have celebrity worship leaders!

In episode 77, we are joined by worship leader Katelyn Hill from Journey Church in Franklin, TN, to talk about breaking the vicious cycle of comparison in the church.

Even when you feel unseen and overshadowed, never let your identity ever be diminished because another person’s success looks different than your own.

“I think God has given me the opportunity to cheer on worship leaders who are called to be more in the public eye and cheer them on. In parts of my story, I’m tempted to feel left out, or less effective, but I’ve found such richness in my specific and unique calling. He’s really been teaching me that everybody’s assignments in the Kingdom are diverse and don’t have to look the same.” - Katelyn Hill

One thing is apparent in all of this, we can’t continue to do business as usual.

In this episode, we sit down with Katelyn Hill of Journey Church to discuss some thoughts on how we, the church, must move forward. Whether you’re a worship leader, ministry leader, or not we know that this episode will encourage you as you navigate it all.

We know the local church is the hope of the world & although we have new things to navigate, we know Jesus has a plan & cares about His church more than any of us do!

02 May 2019PreachersNSneakers - Should Church Leaders Wear Luxury Clothes?00:31:41

In episode 71, we’re tackling one of the most controversial topics right now, @preachersnsneakers!

For those who haven’t heard the hype, around a month ago an Instagram account was created showcasing influential church leaders next to a screenshot of the possible resale value of their shoes. Some of which were up to $5,500 resale value.

Naturally, the internet broke and comments about them being “fake Christians” who abuse tithing money in their megachurches spread like a plague.

So today we’re joined by Libby Lewis, Jordan Holt & Brenton Miles to have an honest discussion of what this Instagram account has really exposed. Be sure to listen in!

11 Mar 2021What it Takes to Lead the Next Generation of Worshipers with SEU Worship00:40:17

When it comes to leading the next generation, what used to work with previous generations doesn’t work anymore.

As worship leaders, if we want to keep them engaged with our ministries, then we have to adapt.

Creating ways for them to sit back & consume doesn’t generate buy-in like it used to. They want to belong & contribute.

This isn’t a new concept, but here in the Post-Christian era with Gen-Z covering the newborn to post-grad spectrum, it’s crucial to get this right.

No longer does this only apply to student ministries.

To borrow a phrase that 2020 burned into our memories: it’s the new normal. It applies to us all!

10 Sep 2020Jeremy & Adrienne Camp: How to Navigate Tragedy & Suffering00:32:55

Life sucks sometimes & is filled with unexpected setbacks, tragedies, & suffering. Obviously, no one enjoys these experiences, so we create beliefs and even theologies that help us explain away & avoid walking through suffering.

Suffering is an inevitable part of the human experience. Even when you look at scripture, you cannot separate suffering from the life of the believer. That’s why this week’s guests are so perfect for this conversation.

Jeremy & Adrienne Camp are no strangers to suffering, but because of it have seen so many beautiful sides of the Lord that most don’t get to experience. The insights presented here in this conversation reflects decades of journeying with the Lord that you cannot afford to miss out on.

29 Jun 2023A Look at Elevation Church's Green Room Culture00:30:39
Have you ever wondered what the green room culture is like at churches like Elevation Church?

The green room is more than just a backstage area. It’s a space where a deeper level of community is formed.

Here we talk with Chris Brown about all things green room with Elevation Worship. Things like snacks, sitting in the church service together as a team, saying hey to people in the lobby, etc.

There are a lot of different opinions surrounding how the church green room should be approached.

Today’s conversation with Chris helps us look at the topic from a higher vantage point to help us determine what’s best for our individual communities.

27 Aug 2020Why Innovative Worship Matters with Nashville Life Music00:25:13

You cannot separate the life of the believer from the call to innovate. From landscapes, to plants, to animals, creation proves all throughout the universe that God has something unique for every geographical location.

It's a messy process that takes a lot of work and a lot of risk. But the beauty it brings to those it’s created for is worth every risk, every effort, & every ounce of sweat. Not because it’s just a new unique thing, but because it’s what God longs to use to reach those He’s destined to experience it.

In this episode we are joined by Nashville Life Music to explore why innovation matters & how their innovation has enabled them to uniquely reach the people God has called them to.

Their new album, “Here for Jesus”, fuses together all different types of sounds to make something you’ve never heard before, but yet feels so familiar. When it comes to innovation, this community is helping lead the charge!

31 Dec 2017The Secret Weapon To Success As A Musician00:27:28

Prepare - Prepare - Prepare!

Preparation is key to the success of every musician. Next to the heart behind worship, preparation truly is the most important piece to a smooth and enjoyable experience while leading worship. It’s also the entire purpose behind starting Worship Online in the first place!

Being prepared adds a whole new level of influence and respect within a team. In addition to showing up early, treating people with respect and professionalism, when a musician shows up knowing all their parts, pedals, hits, melodies… it makes everyone else feel comfortable and confident.

Again, like most of the things we’ll cover in this podcast, it goes back to serving. When you show up prepared, you’re serving your team, leaders, and ultimately giving God your best.

In this episode, we go even deeper in uncovering the heart behind being prepared. Truly, the best experiences in worship are the unexpected. So if we stop preparing after the 3-4 songs that we have to play in the set list, what about the “flow moments”. What about the moments when Holy Spirit starts to move and the band continues to press in… if you’re not prepared for those moments, it can quickly turn into a stress mess, a train wreck, or worse… silence… in a bad way. There is definitely good silence, but abrupt stops due to being unprepared… that’s a very bad silence. Ha!

If we can all prepare on the songs we have to play, the songs in the back catalogue, and new songs that we might roll out in the future… imagine how 2nd nature it will become, and how easy the flow moments will be!

AND OF COURSE, in the spirit of being prepared… we’re giving away the BEST RESOURCE to help you get prepared! A FREE annual subscription to Worship Online! Sign up for the drawing at https://www.worshiponline.com/podcast. Winners will be announced beginning in February 2018! So don’t forget to sign up! If you’re already a subscriber, you can also enter to win - Then it will be free for a year!

31 Dec 2017Why We Play Worship Music & The Heart Behind It00:24:14

In this episode, we talk about the heart behind worship. The "Seek First" principle is something we should all have as a number one priority in our lives as Christians… especially as worship leaders. Matthew 6:33 says “seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.”

The entire point of leading worship is to help other people connect with this truth. When we seek God first, He becomes the foundation of our lives and everything else is a bonus… a blessing. When He is first, and his people (Kingdom) are a priority in our lives, then playing, singing, charts, sets, etc. all become secondary… simply put, they are expressions or tools that we use to help facilitate an encounter with God, with him being the ultimate priority and focus.

This is why aside from our introduction, it’s our first official episode… because it’s the most important… the foundation for this entire podcast. As we unpack more logistics, questions, things to make us sharper in the world of worship leading and music… we will always point back to Episode 2. The reflection of what we discuss will always go back to our heart for seeking first the very presence of God, His Kingdom, His righteousness.

We’re excited to go on this journey with you and can’t wait to explore this next chapter with you on the podcast!

05 Mar 2020Sound Teams vs. Worship Leaders: 3 Ways Sound Teams Influence Their Church’s Worship Culture00:28:45

If you’re a “production guy” involved in a church, it’s crucial that you understand that before anything else, you are a worship leader.

You have the power to set the tone before anyone else walks in - the power to freak out or sing out - the power to curate a safe, healthy, vulnerable, freeing environment for people to pursue presence over presentation - or the opposite - cynical, stressful, “I’m in charge” “hate the musicians” atmosphere that breeds contempt and lifeless church environments with quick turnover and a lonely life. It’s entirely up to you.

In episode 108, Brenton Miles shares his experience running sound in and out of the church, and what more sound teams can be doing to empower their worship team.

The console is just another instrument, and the band and production crew are ALL the “worship team.”

Don’t miss this powerful episode made specifically for anyone involved in church production! We hope this episode brings encouragement and practical tips to strengthen your worship teams. Listen in and share!

16 Apr 20203 Ways to Effectively Lead Your Church during Social Distancing00:32:54

COVID19 has completely transformed the way we live day to day life. Church services, worship nights, rehearsals, small groups, all halted and with little to no certainty of when that will change. For this episode, we wanted to reach out to pastors who have navigated their way through this pandemic and found ways to continue serving their church.

In episode 114 we are honored to have Pastor Jeremy DeWeerdt who is the lead pastor, along with his wife Jen, of City First Church in Rockford, IL.

On April 2, they gave away 43,000 lbs. of food and supplies to their local community in need with a partnership with Convoy of Hope. And on April 7, they opened up their facility to other local pastors who needed a way to record their Easter sermons for online streaming

When crisis comes, it unifies. Jesus himself said,

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35

Right now, the world’s response to Coronavirus is to isolate, be fearful, and to hoard. We as the Kingdom of God are called to respond the exact opposite. To unite together, have faith, and to continue to be generous.

Listen in as we break down these 3 ways to effectively lead your church and community during quarantine with Pastor Jeremy DeWeerdt!

03 Jul 2019The Reality of Sin on Stage with Benjamin Forehand00:52:02

Today we are so honored to be joined by special guest and friend, Benjamin Forehand. Benjamin is an absolutely incredible guitarist and has played for or recorded with artists such as Bethel Music, Israel Houghton, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Nicki Minaj and Matt Redman, just to name a few.

Episode 80 is by far one of the most raw and real episodes to date. “So often we find ourselves worshipping the ministry of the Lord rather than the Lord of the ministry.” Our motives, our instincts, our human nature constantly try to pull us from the presence of God, but there is grace in the trial.

Don’t miss this incredible episode as Benjamin Forehand shares his experience from both ends of the spectrum, in and out of ministry and brings harsh truths and Kingdom perspective.

25 Jun 2020Conversations with Leeland Part I00:58:01

Right before the Pandemic hit back in March, host, Brenton Miles, sat down with Leeland Mooring and had an incredible conversation about his journey in worship and music. We delayed these episodes in light of current events, but are thrilled to be releasing them now in 2 parts over the next 2 weeks.

Leeland came to the forefront of the worship music world in 2004 and debuted their first project, the revolutionary Sound of Melodies, in 2006. Fast forward to now with four GRAMMY® nominations and eight GMA Dove Award® nominations under their belts, Leeland has become one of the most important voices in a new generation of worship music.

Their lives, ministry, and music are a true extension of their passion to simply worship God personally and in community.

In episode 121, Leeland shares about his early childhood, his experience with the ministry as a kid, church planting, and how he developed his writing.

“I don’t want to write songs filled with my thoughts about God,” Mooring shares about his music motivations. “I want to write songs filled with what God thinks about everything. It isn’t my words or ideas about my circumstances that change me, but it’s when I use my voice to speak the words of life that come from Jesus’ mouth that change me.”

Don’t miss this powerful interview! And be sure to check out their latest single, Better Word, now available!
