10 Jun 2021Assignment: Outer Space (Space Men, 1960, Antonio Margheriti)00:58:08

Your next assignment is to travel across the galaxy in search of the greatest scoop of your career. As a journalist with apparently nothing else to do for the next few years, why not accept and join Rod and Adrian as they travel into the farthest reaches of Outer Space?

Officially designated as Italy's first science fiction film, Assignment Outer Space has a lot to offer, but will Rod have changed his mind since his somewhat negative blog review fifteen years ago? Listen and find out...

You can watch Assignment: Outer Space on YouTube if you are playing along at home

You can read Rod's blog on the film here

You can also hear Rod's Battle of the Worlds (1961) episode of The Bloody Pit through his blog or on your podcast provider of choice

25 Jun 2021002 Operazione Luna (002 Operation Moon, 1965, Lucio Fulci)00:58:25

Join Adrian and Rod as they blast off into space again, this time in the "hilarious" company of Franco and Ciccio in Lucio Fulci's science fiction comedy 002 Operazione Luna (yes, THAT Fulci). During the voyage they discuss Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, what makes things funny, and the true story of the Judica-Cordiglia brothers in Italy, who intercepted radio transmissions from real lost cosmonauts in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

You can find 002 Operazione Luna on YouTube without subtitles, but a subtitled version is out there on more dubious sites if you know where to look.

If you want to learn more about the Judica-Cordiglia brothers, there is a fascinating documentary called Space Hackers (2007) available on YouTube.

Feel free to contact the podcast on our email wildwildpodcast@gmail.com or through Twitter or Instagram and please leave a review wherever you listen.

09 Jul 2021Planet of the Vampires (Terrore nello spazio, 1965, Mario Bava)01:20:00

Only four episodes in and it's already time for more Mario Bava! After his first foray into space science fiction with The Day the Sky Exploded, he finally came back to the field in 1965 and this time delivered one of the all time genre greats. Join Rod and Adrian as they spend longer than usual discussing the next film in the season, the misleadingly titled Planet of the Vampires.

This is the first film covered on the podcast that has been released on home video, DVD and blu ray, so grab yourselves a copy and enjoy Bava's incredibly inventive and stylish sci-fi horror.

23 Jul 2021Wild, Wild Planet (I criminali della galassia, 1966, Antonio Margheriti)01:34:10

It's the episode we've all been waiting for! Wild, Wild Planet, the movie that inspired the name of this podcast. Join Adrian and Rod as they both pour praise and occasional sarcasm on this science fiction wonder. Yes they love it, but it's also a pretty crazy film that doesn't always make a lot of sense. "Why is Franco Nero in a knitted baby onesie?" is just one of the questions your hosts try to answer.

You can buy Wild, Wild Planet from the Warner Archive. It's not on blu ray yet, but if enough people buy this version then maybe they will take the hint!

At the close of the podcast you can hear the song "Wild, Wild Planet" by the band Several Mouth Parts. You can find a video here, or check out their website to hear more great stuff like this!

06 Aug 2021Cosmos: War of the Planets (Anno zero - Guerra nello spazio, 1977, Alfonso Brescia)01:14:36

Well, where to start? This film was so difficult to watch that Rod had to pace the room to stay awake, and Adrian actually did fall asleep and was an hour late getting the podcast recording started. Yes, it's Cosmos: War of the Planets, a film that not even its mother would love. You can watch it here to form your own opinion.

20 Aug 2021Starcrash (1979, Luigi Cozzi)01:32:22

Sing with me now: "Starcrash, it's a Starcrash, we're having a Starcrash..." Yes, we've made it to 1979's Italian Star Wars knock-off par excellence, the one and only Starcrash, featuring Caroline Munro in a space bikini and David Hasslehoff with a tight perm.

In this episode Adrian and Rod share their unabashed enthusiasm for this silly film, whilst not holding back on just how difficult it is to accurately summarise the plot, even when it's written down in front of you.

03 Sep 2021The Humanoid (L'umanoide, 1979, Aldo Lado)01:18:25

Join Adrian and Rod as they travel back into the furthest reaches of the galaxy to find out just exactly what really happened to Richard Kiel after James Bond left him in space at the end of Moonraker.

The Humanoid is another fun Italian film that makes no attempt to pretend it's not ripping off Star Wars, but this podcast believes that is something to be celebrated. It's got heroes, villains with black helmets, cute robots and guns that go "pew pew!"

The closing song is called Love Games by the band Ganymede. They've long since split up now but you can still read about their interest in The Humanoid on this fan site. Whilst you're there check out some of the other amazing stuff they have like these behind the scenes stills.

20 Sep 2021Beast in Space (La bestia nello spazio, 1980, Alfonso Brescia)01:01:02

It's 1980, and things are getting a bit saucy. Join Adrian and Rod as they return to Alfonso Brescia's unique take on space exploration: It is as if he thought, "I know what was wrong with Cosmos, it was missing some horses getting it on."

Get ready to party with Rod, Adrian and Darth Glitter Beard as they all celebrate the last episode of this first season by firing up the Megatron and getting down on the disco planet, better known as Earth. This is the film that asks the important questions, like "What is water?" and "Do you have any more spandex?"

14 Oct 2021Interview with author Matt Blake (Italians in Space bonus episode!)00:49:39

We are very pleased to welcome author Matt Blake to the podcast for this special bonus episode. It was Matt's book Science Fiction Italian Style that inspired this whole podcast in the first place, so it was great to get to talk to him about his work and his love for European genre cinema.

Several of Matt Blake's books are available on Amazon in the UK and around the world so do check them out, particularly his latest book Spanish Cult Cinema, Volume 1: 1960-1964.

01 Nov 2021Ubalda (Quel gran pezzo della Ubalda tutta nuda e tutta calda, 1972, Mariano Laurenti)01:02:05

We're back and this time we are taking a dive into the world of Pasolini's Trilogy of Life. In this episode we discuss films based on the first in the trilogy, Il Decameron (1971) and its many imitators, in particular the film known to English-speaking audiences as Ubalda - All Naked and Warm. Yes, it's the one with Edwige Fenech in a chastity belt, so grab your skeleton keys and head back to the middle ages with us.

For more information on this Italian sub genre, which morphed into the highly successful commedia sexy all'italiana, this article is a very good primer and one we will be coming back to: “Canterbury Rides Again”… PASOLINI & HIS “DECAMEROTIC” IMITATORS

01 Dec 2021The Sexbury Tales (I racconti di Viterbury - Le più allegre storie del '300, 1973, Mario Caiano)01:08:50

We're back for more Decameron-inspired shenanigans, as this time we travel to medieval Viterbo for a collection of ribald tales featuring cuckolded husbands, horny ghosts, frustrated brides and misplaced shellfish.

For more information on this Italian sub genre, which morphed into the highly successful commedia sexy all'italiana, this article is a very good primer and one we will be coming back to: “Canterbury Rides Again”… PASOLINI & HIS “DECAMEROTIC” IMITATORS

13 Jan 2022Bed of a Thousand Pleasures (Finalmente le mille e una notte, 1972, Antonio Margheriti)01:18:40

This time we return to the world of the Decamerotici to see what Antonio Margheriti could do with his version of the Arabian Nights. And, brace yourself, it's actually pretty good. Although we do have to qualify that claim quite a lot. So, join us on a magic carpet ride through the wild, wild tales of a Sultan with erectile dysfunction, an Aladdin with carpet dysfunction, and a Queen whose sexual appetite is defeated by a healthy supply of bananas.

Rod's detective work uncovered the fabulous Florentine castle location used in the film, which is currently the focus of a campaign to save it from ruin. Find out more here: Save Samezzano

Check out this excellent article on the filone we've been wallowing in these last few weeks: “Canterbury Rides Again”… PASOLINI & HIS “DECAMEROTIC” IMITATORS

And if you want to explore this filone further here's a pretty helpful IMDB Complete List of Adaptations of the Decameron and Decamerotici

Finally, Adrian mentions his Margheriti blog about lost films. You can find that here: The "Lost" Films of Antonio Margheriti

We're back with a full ten film season, and this time we are getting violent and gritty on the streets of Italy. First up is a stone cold classic of the filone: Milan Caliber 9. So join us as we talk girls, guns, guts! Prog rock and Bruce Campbell also get more air time than they probably should.

10 Mar 2022Blue Movie Blackmail (Si può essere più bastardi dell'ispettore Cliff? Massimo Dallamano, 1973)01:01:45

This time Adrian and Rod travel the globe in search of illicit drugs and the perfect J&B, whilst Ivan Rassimov and Stephanie Beacham get stuck into crossing, double-crossing, triple and even quadruple-crossing pretty much everyone along the way. The big question is, could you be more bastard than Inspector Cliff?

04 Apr 2022Rabid Dogs (Cani arrabbiati, Mario Bava, 1974)01:11:17

In this episode Rod and Adrian take a deep dive into the formerly lost Mario Bava crime film Rabid Dogs, aka 'Cani arrabbiati', aka 'Kidnapped', aka 'Semaforo rosso', aka 'L'uomo e il bambino'. They try to unpick the tricky post-production history, and Adrian posits the controversial opinion that all Stelvio Cipriani themes sound the same.

The new book on Bava mentioned in the show is Mario Bava: The Artisan as Italian Horror Auteur by Leon Hunt

25 Apr 2022What Have They Done to Your Daughters? (La polizia chiede aiuto, Massimo Dallamano, 1974)01:01:29

One of the most entertaining and nauseating films we've covered so far, What Have they Done to your Daughters? is a classic of the genre and one that every Poliziotteschi/ Giallo fan needs to check out. Join Rod and Adrian for their first anniversary episode as they delve in to the sleazy, blood-splattered world of meat cleaver-wielding bikers, peeping toms and teenage prostitutes. Yes, it's an episode the whole family can enjoy!

Adrian also offers some form of apology for his dissing of Stelvio Cipriani in the last episode.

16 May 2022Savage Three (Fango bollente, Vittorio Salerno, 1975)01:10:58

What happens if you put Joe Dallesandro and his pals in a cage? They turn savage, that's what! What happens if you put Rod and Adrian near a microphone? They start making podcasts! It's almost the same. In this episode we get to explore Turin with three bored friends hellbent on causing chaos and destruction. Is there nothing they won't do? Eurovision also gets a mention, and Adrian keeps banging on about his holiday. Sorry about that.

11 Jul 2022Italy & Argento00:42:12

After going on about it often enough, Adrian has finally been on his trip to Rome and Turin, where he attended a film conference, looked for film locations, went to the new Dario Argento exhibit at the Museo Nazionale del Cinema in Turin, and got too hot.

In this episode Adrian takes you with him so you can enjoy the sounds of Italy, without having to endure the heat and the smell of Rome in high summer.

The Museo Nazionale del Cinema has some videos connected to the new Dario Argento exhibit, including a launch event with Argento himself in attendance, although unfortunately there are no English subtitles.

Join us on a wild ride as we try to escape Milan for Switzerland with a depressed Tomas Milian on our tails, with only a shotgun and a bottle of J&B for company. Will we make it to the border?

Yes, we're finally back to talking about some films, and this time it's the under appreciated Young, Violent, Dangerous, a fantastic police thriller where there is so much to discuss that Adrian and Rod singularly failed to mention the Fernando di Leo script, or the fact that it is based on another short story from the same collection that inspired Milano, Calibro 9.

Yes, it's our penultimate film in this action-packed poliziotteschi season! With a Goblin-heavy soundtrack and more stunts than the entire James Bond back-catalogue, The Heroin Busters is not to be missed.

Put on your best pair of denim dungarees and head to Austria with Rod and Adrian as they try to work out why this film is called Magnum Cop when he's not a cop and he doesn't own a magnum. This is a strangely comedic yet harrowing late entry in the cycle featuring the powerhouse coupling of Marizio Merli and Joan Collins. What more could you ask for?

We're back, and this time we are celebrating the work of science fiction enthusiast, film director and shopkeeper Luigi Cozzi. In this episode we focus on his first commercial film The Killer Must Kill Again (L'assassino è costretto ad uccidere ancora) and ask, just who is The Spider? Are those cheekbones real? In this episode we take a trip to Japan via Italy and America to experience the psychedelic delights of Godzilla in Spectrorama 70 and Futursound! This was a first time viewing experience for both our hosts. Is it an abomination or a stroke of artistic genius? Listen in and find out. We also take some time to discuss the upcoming Black Friday releases from Severin, which are plentiful and expensive. By the next episode we may have had to sell off some vital organs.

Given the sad news last week of Ruggero Deodato's death, this seemed like a good reason to revisit the excellent FAB Press book Cannibal Holocaust and the Savage Cinema of Ruggero Deodato (affiliate link). 01 Feb 2023The 10th Victim (La decima vittima, Elio Petri, 1965)01:12:41

Welcome to Season 5! Join Rod and Adrian as they jump into their tricked-out dune buggies for a mad ride into the irradiated wasteland. Yes, it's the Pasta-Pocalypse, or more accurately, Italian films set in a dystopian future. In this first episode they check out the pop art masterpiece that is The 10th Victim (Elio Petri, 1965), starring Ursula Andress and Marcello Mastroianni. It's bright, it's action-packed, and it's crammed with subtle digs at politics and consumerism!

To bring our Luigi Cozzi season to a close we talk to the man himself, down the line from Profundo Rosso in Rome. Amongst other things we talk about The Killer Must Kill Again, Starcrash & Starcrash II, Hercules, Blood on Méliès Moon and Sinbad, as well as his love of sci-fi and his relationship with Antonio Margheriti.

If you are ever in Rome do go and visit Luigi at his Profundo Rosso shop and check out the Dario Argento museum in his creepy basement dungeon.

Join us as we get our skates on and head into the Bronx for one of Italy's most enjoyable New York-set dystopian future movies,The Bronx Warriors! In this episode we ponder why no one seems to have a gun, why there were so few light-up skulls for the bikers, and why we can't all have drummers playing in the background during difficult moments.

17 Mar 20232020 Texas Gladiators (Anno 2020 - I gladiatori del futuro, Joe D'Amato, 1983)01:17:32

In this episode Adrian somehow had the wrong mic recording so everything on his end sounds like he's down a well. Perhaps a good place to survive the apocalypse?

Yes, we're still in a dystopian future world, and this time we're in the safe hands of uncle Joe D'Amato. 2020 Texas Gladiators can be found on YouTube if you want to play along at home, and this is one film you won't want to miss!

31 Mar 20232019: After the Fall of New York (2019 - Dopo la caduta di New York, Sergio Martino, 1983)01:04:01

Join us and Michael Sopkiw as we hit the road in our not-ripping-off-Mad-Max hotrod for some not-ripping-off-Death-Race car-smashing action in deserts of Utah/ a quarry just outside Rome. And that's just the prologue to the real story, which is not-ripping-off-Escape-From-New-York at all. Yes, 2019: After the Fall of New York is the fruit salad of Italian post-apocalypse films, throwing in a bit of everything and then pouring the synth stylings of the De Angelis brothers over the top in the hope that you won't notice the joins or the obvious miniature work. But we love it! Along the way we discuss the ubiquity of George Eastman, ponder the difficulty of finding the last fertile woman on Earth if no one has told you her name or what she looks like, and reminisce about Dogtanian and the Three Muskerhounds.

20 Apr 2023Special episode on the restoration of Castle of Blood (Danza Macabra, 1964)00:32:30

Welcome to this special bonus episode where Adrian speaks to Patricia Barsanti down the line from Paris to discuss the fantastic restoration work being done on Castle of Blood (Danza Macabra, Antonio Margheriti, 1964). This Italian gothic horror is one of Adrian's all-time favourite films and is long overdue a restoration and reappraisal, so this is exciting news indeed. If you're lucky, you might be able to hear it in his voice. We had a couple of sound problems in the first few minutes of the interview, but it settles pretty quickly so do stick with it!

You can read more about the fundraising restoration project HERE: ENSEMBLE, FAISONS REVIVRE "DANSE MACABRE"!

You can find out more about Patricia Barsanti's company HERE: Société Cinématographique LYRE

The new artwork for Danse Macabre is by artist Milana Kamieva, and can be found on T-shirts and tote bags in the gift shop of the Cinemateque Francais.

Along the way we'll have some psychic alone time with Laura Gemser and go toe-to-toe once again with Joe's lucky mascot George Eastman.

We also find time to discuss the fact that we are living in a golden age if you are a fan of cult Italian cinema, which of course you are, and Rod makes a surprising revelation!

It's time for another special bonus episode, and this time Adrian chats with Graeme Lloyd and Tom Lee Rutter at Treasured Films, the new UK blu ray label responsible for releasing a fantastic uncut restored edition of the spaghetti combat classic The Last Hunter (1980, Antonio Margheriti). We also cover their distribution site Film Treasures, some upcoming releases, the trials of establishing a new label in a crowded field, and why the BBFC seem to be going out of their way to make life difficult.

30 May 2023Raiders of Atlantis (I predatori di Atlantide, Ruggero Deodato, 1983)01:01:08

In this episode we leap from helicopter to nuclear sub to mysterious island in our pursuit of the Atlantis Interceptors and their quest for, well, who knows. It may not make any sense, or even really be post-apocalypse, but fun will be had along the way - and after all, perhaps the true meaning of Atlantis was inside us all along.

Yes, it's the late Ruggero Deodato's bonkers Filipino action film Raiders of Atlantis, an odd entry in the Pastapocalypse sub-genre, but one that belongs there nonetheless. We discuss its origins, try to get to grips with its plot, and even find time to mention Oliver Onions again.

25 Jul 2023Warriors of the Year 2072 (I guerrieri dell'anno 2072, Lucio Fulci, 1984)01:06:40

Strap your motorcycle helmet on, rev your engines, grab your weapons and head into Rome's New Colosseum where violent death is just seconds away! Yes, Rod and Adrian are once again dressing up in leather to face the nightmarish futures of Italian cinema, and in this episode it's a future brought to you by none other than the Godfather of Gore himself, Lucio Fulci. Many aspects of the film are discussed, including when is a post-apocalypse not a post-apocalypse, and Adrian gets sidetracked by the brief pop career of its female lead and Playmen cover model, Eleonora Brigliadori. Once you've heard Balla Il Tip Tap you may find yourself wishing for the apocalypse.

16 Aug 2023A Man Called Rage (Fuoco incrociato, Tonino Ricci, 1984)01:17:23

This film is about a man called Rage. His name is on the poster and everything. But is he actually full of rage? Or is he just a bit annoyed at being mildly inconvenienced by the post-apocalypse? There may have been nuclear war, but it hasn't stopped him being able to get a really good haircut or from going to the gym. It's hard to see what's got him so cross. Let's see if we can find out. Join us for this latest episode as we get ripped with Rage and slashed with Slash, and head out once more into the forbidden lands in search of whatever it is they need this time, with only a gun and a girl in hot pants for company. Standard military issue hot pants.

30 Aug 2023The Final Executioner (L'ultimo guerriero, Romolo Guerrieri, 1984)01:06:42

It's time for our epic journey across the irradiated wastelands to come to an end, so what better film to bring things to a satisfying conclusion than The Final Executioner? Join Rod and Adrian as they struggle to find anything positive to say about this late entry in the pastapocalypse cycle whilst still remaining upbeat. This is a film that even it's mother would have left out there in the desert to fend for itself, but there is action and the occasional bit of funky synth, so it's not all bad.

28 Sep 2023Gungala la pantera nuda (Ruggero Deodato, 1968)01:14:29

Grab your pith helmet, machete and mosquito net and come with us into the deepest, darkest, fakest-looking jungle in search of the lost heiress Gungala. Yes, we're back with a brand new mini-season, taking a look at the brief burst of Jungle Films to come out of Italy in 1968-1969. Gungala la pantera nuda is significant for a number of reasons; the first is of course the presence of Kitty Swan in the lead role, and the second is that it was Ruggero Deodato's first jungle movie. Give him another few years and he would become infamous for what he caught on camera in the jungles of South America. Here however it's Africa, although it's mostly the De Paolis sound stages in Rome. You will struggle to tell the difference.

You can read all about Kitty Swan's terrible accident and miraculous recovery in THIS ARTICLE. Or if you just want to look at lots of photos of Kitty Swan THIS LINK has you covered.

We would love to hear from you if you have any favourite Jungle Girl films, or if you ever got lost in the jungle yourself and ended up befriending the animals or becoming a god to a local tribe. 24 Oct 2023Luana, the Girl Tarzan (Luana la figlia delle foresta vergine, Roberto Infascelli, 1968)01:12:47

Stop us if you've heard this one before: a plane crashes in the jungle, killing both parents and leaving a solitary three-year-old girl to fend for herself. Communing with the animals, she grows into a beautiful young woman who the local tribes worship and fear as a goddess. Yes, if you asked AI to write you a jungle girl movie, it wouldn't be all that different from the plot of Luana, but we here on the Wild, Wild Podcast love it, and her, anyway.

You can learn more about the star of the film, Mei-Chen, and see plenty of pictures, over on Pulp International. You can also check out the amazing Luana comic strips and Frank Frazetta artwork HERE. And of course, if you want to watch Luana, it's available on YouTube.

08 Nov 2023Samoa, the Jungle Girl (Samoa, regina della giungla, Guido Malatesta, 1968)01:13:33

Come with us up river with Edwige Fenech and Roger Browne as we look for diamonds amongst the stock footage and become on speaking terms with Samoa, the only jungle girl in history to not actually live in a jungle. Yes, it's our penultimate episode in this jungle-flavoured mini-season, and this one is a little different from what we've become accustomed to. But it's still great fun! Just don't pin all your affection on Clint. He'll let you down.

In the episode we discussed a great podcast interview with Roger Browne by Derek Koch. You can listen to that HERE.

There's not a lot out there written about the film, but we did locate two blog posts which are quite good, HERE and HERE.

05 Dec 2023Tarzana The Wild Girl (Tarzana, sesso selvaggio, Guido Malatesta, 1969)00:57:56

For the final time, pack your mosquito spray and come with us into the fake jungles of Rome's film studios in search of a mythical white goddess who has the kind of sex appeal that even the animals can dig. Yes, it's Tarzana, the beautiful heiress whose parents died in the plane crash that left her alone in Kenya to survive and thrive, learning such essential jungle skills as how to swing on vines, how to direct elephants, and how to weave tiny thongs.

In the episode we discuss the lack of available interviews with star Ken Clark. Rod mentions some videos, but on post-episode examination it turns out these are interviews with British politician Ken Clarke. However, the fanzine European Trash Cinema did interview our Ken back in 1995. You can find part of that interview reproduced HERE. If you want to read the whole thing, the issue is currently for sale on eBay.

The only decent online coverage of Tarzana can be found on the blog Spinning Image.

We hope you have enjoyed this jungle-themed mini-season. 16 Jan 2024Kriminal (Umberto Lenzi, 1966) & Il Marchio di Kriminal (Fernando Cerchio, 1968)01:14:24

The Wild, Wild Podcast emerges blinking into the light after the long dark Christmas break to bring you a new season dedicated to the heroes and villains (but mostly villains) of the films adapted from or inspired by the fumetti neri publishing phenomenon of the sixties (which is still going strong today in Italy).

Our first episode sees us going toe to toe with a devious, ruthless, devilishly handsome villain, Kriminal. He's self-serving and will stop at nothing to get what he wants, in the comics at least. The films have him toned down a bit, as we explore in this discussion, which also covers such vital topics as the best way to shave and how to deal with your dad being Mussolini.

If you want to do some background reading on the most popular Italian comics of the sixties, there's a great resource here on Comic Vine.

We would love to hear from you if you have any favourite Italian comic-based films, or if you ever got beaten up and robbed by a man in a skull mask. Argoman or Psychoman? That's the question posed in this episode as we take a look at the pop art-infused crazy world of Sir Reginald Hoover, noted criminologist, playboy and masked criminal. Other questions raised by this film include "Is ten minutes of pleasure worth losing your powers for six hours?" and "Can you really take over the world by being able to make metal bendy?"

29 May 2024Arrriva Dorellik (Steno, 1967)01:11:20

Take one of Italy's most popular entertainers, stick him in a moth-eaten supervillain costume, then have him come face to face with a buffonish Terry-Thomas and you have Arrriva Dorellik, a star vehicle for singer, actor and all-round charisma machine Johnny Dorelli. But given this is an Italian comedy, will Rod and Adrian be able to agree on whether this is one to enjoy or avoid like the plague? Tune in to find out. In this episode Adrian also gets very easily distracted by Dorelli's Sanremo win of 1959 which leads to him going on about the Eurovision Song Contest at length.

Johnny Dorelli was still singing this film's theme Arriva la bomba well into the 1970s, and can be seen making an appearance on Italian television here.

10 Jun 2024Fenomenal and the Treasure of Tutankamen (Ruggero Deodato, 1968)01:13:20

In this phenomenally good episode, Rod and Adrian get to grips with a film that makes very little sense whichever language you watch it in. Yes, it's that dastardly master of crime/ vigilante hero (delete as appropriate, we couldn't work it out) Fenomenal: Thrill as he kicks drug dealers into the sea! Gasp as he climbs walls very carefully! Worry in case he bumps into the furniture with that mask on!

You can see the whole film for yourself on YouTube.

04 Jul 2024Bonus Episode: Il Cinema Ritrovato00:23:59

In this short bonus episode Adrian brings you some coverage of the amazing Il Cinema Ritrovato festival in Bologna, Italy. Please excuse the occasionally poor recording owing to wind or Adrian just not backing off the mic enough. It was hot. He was tired.

11 Jul 2024Danger: Diabolik (Mario Bava, 1968)01:21:52

Dashing home after having stolen a country's entire gold reserve and blown up its tax offices, Rod and Adrian grab their microphones to talk about one of the greatest films to be covered on Wild, Wild Podcast - Danger: Diabolik. In this episode the latest Severin Films announcements are discussed, and Adrian potentially alienates everyone by saying something blasphemous about Morricone's score.

We are now halfway through our fumetti season. If you want to do some background reading on the most popular Italian comics of the sixties, there's a great resource here on Comic Vine.

We would love to hear from you if you have any favourite Italian comic or masked hero/ villain-based films, or if you have scaled a castle wall to steal priceless diamonds. 21 Aug 2024Mister X (Avenger X, Piero Vivarelli, 1967)00:53:28

Bored of winning the golf championships all the time? Is life with your beautiful fiancé just not quite giving you the thrills you need? In that case, why not put on a black mask, stick a big X on your belt and then head out to fight international criminals? That's just what Mister X did, and he's never been happier, whether he's chucking henchmen out of windows or blowing up phone boxes.

Yes, we're back with another episode in our Fumetti season, and this is one of the lesser-known films based on a relatively unsuccessful comic. As usual with this season, there's no decent home video release to speak of, but you can find a poor quality copy on YouTube. It's good fun though, and gives Rod and Adrian plenty to discuss.

We are now coming towards the end of our fumetti season. If you want to do some background reading on the most popular Italian comics of the sixties, there's a great resource here on Comic Vine.

We would love to hear from you if you have any favourite Italian comic or masked hero/ villain-based films, or if you have used your fiancé as a honeytrap to catch a sleazy mafia boss. In this bonus episode Adrian chats with comic writer Steven Ross, who was responsible for encouraging Luigi Cozzi to write a new story in the Starcrash universe, The Midas Star (which we reviewed in a previous episode). Steven is also working on a new translation of the original Yor - the Hunter From the Future comics, so there is plenty to discuss!

If you want to follow Steven Ross and find out more about these projects you can find him on Twitter and Instagram.

We would love to hear from you if you have any favourite Italian comics or your memories of seeing Starcrash or Yor for the first time. You can contact us on Twitter and Instagram or by email at wildwildpodcast@gmail.com. You can also find our YouTube channel here.

09 Sep 2024Satanik (Piero Vivarelli, 1968)01:05:24

Skin trouble? Grey hair getting you down? Walking with a stoop? Why not take a drug that has not safely been tested on people yet, will probably make you violent, but will definitely make you young and hot? If that sounds good, you too could become Satanik, the anti-hero of our latest episode.

This is one of the few films from this season to have actually been restored, and is currently available on blu ray from Terror Vision and is highly recommended.

We are now coming towards the end of our fumetti season. If you want to do some background reading on the most popular Italian comics of the sixties, there's a great resource here on Comic Vine.

"En garde!" In this episode we jump back in time to seventeenth century France, where dastardly deeds are afoot and the Duchess Isabella is forced to take revenge against the evil Baron Von Nutter for the murder of her entire family and the theft of her family state. 05 Nov 2024LSD - Flesh of the Devil (LSD - Inferno per pochi dollari, Massimo Mida, 1967)01:15:09

Turn on, tune in and drop out with Rod and Adrian as they enter the wild wild world of 1960s psychedelics. In this episode they take a trip with secret super-agent Rex Miller as he infiltrates the evil international crime organisation E.C.H.O. (just don't try and ask anyone what it stands for) and foils their plans to drug the world with LSD. At least, that's what might be going on. It's honestly hard to tell.

We would love to hear from you if you have any favourite psychedelic Italian films, or if you've ever had a powerful radio transmitter inserted into your body. You can contact us on Twitter and Instagram or by email at wildwildpodcast@gmail.com. You can also find our YouTube channel here.

Grab your copy of From Russia With Love and suck those LSD-infused corners with us as we trip out in New York City with Beatniks, Bohemians and off-Broadway performers. Just watch out for those Mafioso drug dealers - they have shoes in your size and they're not afraid to use them.

We would love to hear from you if you have any favourite psychedelic Italian films, or if you've ever danced naked in one of Manhattan's fountains. You can contact us on Twitter and Instagram or by email at wildwildpodcast@gmail.com. You can also find our YouTube channel here.
