07 Nov 2022Taking off the Mask and Being Vulnerable with Trudy Simmons00:57:07

Chief Crazy Daisy and Founder of the Daisy Chain Group Trudy Simmons entertains businesswomen in their businesses so that they are happier, which leads to increased confidence and the ability to be visible.

In this episode, Trudy and I shoot the breeze about:

- The absolute disintegration of herSelf which happened through the grief Trudy experienced when her dear sister and friend Jody passed away, and how this left Trudy no longer able (or willing) to wear any masks in the world.

- The discombobulation that occurred when Trudy realised that her mask wearing tendency in the past was a protective mechanism and how when this was stripped away she was able to go to to far more depth of vulnerability and openness in all her relationships

- Trudy’s big leap of faith returning to live the UK after well and truly growing roots in Australia and never intending to leave

- The delicious love story Trudy finds herself in now, after meeting her divine partner and how the level of intimacy and support they experience together just would not have been possible without her earlier journeys through grief and all it resulted in.

- Trudy’s favourite tip for business and self growth - just Say YES, and work things out as you go - and the level of self trust that comes from this.

Our world needs inspiring, purposeful people more than ever and Angela Raspass, a Mentor, Self-Worth Educator and Author, is one of them.

A catalyst for your next chapter - for resilience, change, and growth, she’s committed to helping women find the next major step to take so who they are and what they’re doing are aligned. Ahhhhh this one was always going to be a goodie, because one of the deep friendship joys in my life is diving into the deep waters of emotion, desire, power, potential and possibility with my friend Ange … and now you get to listen in on one of these very conversations! In this episode we chat about:

- Angela’s experience as the emotional barometer of her family and how the combination of health challenges for every family member and being trapped on the treadmill had Ange’s body and mind screaming for a break

21 Oct 2022Honouring and Responding to the Cycles of Life with Sheehan Rosen01:07:20

Sheehan Rosen is a midwife of change from Montana with over 30 years of wisdom from holding space for women: an actual midwife, a bodyworker and a coach who works with women during the life cycles of fertility, pregnancy and peri menopause.

In this episode we chat about:

  • Her deep reverence for the cycles of life women go through - the journeys through fertility, pregnancy, potentially miscarriage, birth, peri-menopause and beyond
  • The rites of passage through the external focus of puberty, navigating connecting to community, friends and mentors, then the years of our 20s and 30s where we are wired to connect, procreate, nurture and respond to other’s needs,
  • and on the flipside, the opposite journey of peri menopause and beyond where we are neurologically and biologically invited to focus internally, to work out who we are and who we wish to be facing the second half of our lives
  • Sheehan’s own personal experience of peri menopause, with symptoms staring at age 35, the connection these symptoms had to her adrenal and pituitary health
  • The culmination of an exponential expansion in Sheehan’s business during the pandemic, arriving at the threshold of menopause and the reality of a nervous system which was stretched thin and the realisation that Sheehan was unable to keep up the pace of her earlier life
  • Sheehan’s recent experience with a deep valley of depression and self doubt, and her subsequent commitment to stop using alcohol to dull her feelings and to take the very big leap of taking a summer sabbatical in 2023.

Sheehan’s professional life centres around serving her local Montana community in person as a midwife, bodyworker and coach.

I would like to bow in deep thanks and reverence for Sheehan’s courage and transparency in sharing the “beginning of the messy middle of midlife metamorphosis”. I know sharing these stories of truth with all the good, challenging and messy bits will offer so much midlife magic to our listeners.

21 Oct 2022Plant Magic and Surrendering to Self with Heather Paulson01:15:33

Dr Heather Paulson is a retired Naturopathic doctor who experienced the healing power of Ayahuasca and could not go back to her “normal” life.

After traveling the world with a Peruvian Ayahuasquero and seeing the healing power of plant medicine with over 1,000 people she settled in Peru and has since opened a healing retreat centre in the Sacred Valley of Peru that offers small ceremonies of Ayahuasca called Hampuy House.

At Hampuy House, Heather supports people in letting go of the emotional and physical blocks preventing them from fully experiencing life.

In this potent podcast ep, Heather and I dive into:

- Heather’s dark night of the soul, combining the losses of her marriage, access to financial security, her car and having a tree leave a gaping hole in her home

- Her realisations around her own part in a codependent/narcissistic relationship dynamic

- A pivotal fork in the road moment where Heather realised she did not know who she was, what her likes and desires were and how she’s paved a way back to her Self

- Revelations around her fierce independence being the shadow side of codependency and how she learnt to replace this with community and co-operation

- recovering from her identity as an over-caregiver and overachiever

- And ultimately the surrender and trust that emerged through this tunnel of trauma that led Heather as if by magic to her opening her healing centre Hampuy House

If you’ve wondered if your relationships with others, and your Self are healthy, and if you really can believe in magic, this is the medicine your soul needs.

03 Nov 2022One Challenging, yet Golden Year with Jodie Preiss01:07:08

Collective Ripples Founder Jodie Preiss shares the story of the catastrophic clusterf*ckery of the year that was 2018, a year of deep personal and health challenges and shifting sands of identity …

and what ultimately turned into her ✨Golden Year ✨ which invited Jodie to seek answers to the big, bold, I’m-in-the-genetic-soup-stage of reinvention questions like:

💫 “How do I stay deeply present to and honour my body in the midst of a health crises?”,
💫 “How can I surrender and trust the timing of my life even more?”, and
💫 “What does being a woman and having a feminine presence mean to me outside of society’s narrow-minded definition?”

In this episode Jodie shares so much gold with us, the answers to these questions and:

 - the intensity and identity discombobulation of a year that saw Jodie wade through her brother's suicide, her breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and resulting medical menopause which was 'beautifully' book-ended with almost two years of on and off isolation in Melbourne thanks to COVID.

 - her reclamation of Self post-treatment, the decision not to wear a head scarf and the journey of discovery around what it is to be a woman

 - the lessons in trusting the timing, surrendering to the cycle of life and the deep knowing Jodie had around her body's innate wisdom

 - learning the Art of the Sacred "no" and the sense of joy and wonder for the world we live in which has emerged in the last couple of years and

Bravery, wisdom, connection and a real, raw and grounded "still in progress" story of triumph.

You can find Jodie and all the gold she has in store for the world on Insta @collectiveripples.

16 Nov 2022From Good Girl to Grounded Woman with Catherine Joy01:00:12

When I think of Catherine Joy, I think of spunky hairdos, travel adventures, a connected and bloody proud educator and mother of four, and a woman who deeply believes in fairness, inclusion and equality.

But as we discover in this episode it wasn’t always the way. In this interview, Catherine and I speak about:

- Catherine’s Christian upbringing, and how this, plus her family situation, was the perfect crucible for creating a “good girl” afraid of rocking the boat and how this shaped her identity.

- How Catherine’s early marriage and the experience of infertility left her questioning God and the reasons why her life wasn’t turning out as she’d thought it would given she’d tried so hard to follow all the rules.

- Later, the dissolution of Catherine’s marriage led to deeper questions about her spirituality, gender roles, identity and even her sexuality - and it turns out being a subservient “good girl” really isn’t her natural state

- Catherine’s reflects on her former self before her marriage ended, and feels sorry for this earlier version of herself who was so full of fear and terrified of falling into a dark, deep, hellish abyss if she “got life wrong”

- Her realisations around earlier patterns of perfectionism and intense fear of failure, and how healing these in herself has informed her parenting, teaching and even friendships. She now has the foundational belief that absolutely everything can be done and redone, and that nothing is the end of the world

- Catherine as a mother, and the balancing act between wanting what is best for her kids, and allowing them to develop self-trust through trial and error - the gifts of sovereignty and agency which were not her reality as a child and teen

- The wonderful knowing that has emerged in the last decade that Catherine does not have to define herself or box herself in anymore - that her opinions, values, sexuality, parenting, and life in general no longer needs to fit anyone’s else’s preconceived notions or labels.

A deep bow of gratitude to Catherine for sharing her story, and eye-opening transformation from “good girl” to powerful, grounded woman.

Wild + (finally fcking) Free Podcast host and Midlife Metamorphosis Mentor Kylie Patchett introduces herself, her passion for midlife magic and a funny little story about how the show came to be called Wild + (finally fcking free).

In this episode, Kylie shares:

- Her life journey through her first career as a forensic biologist, and how she has ended up building a business and burning it down, only to spend the last five years trying to fit into the corporate fish bowl.

- how she tried to ignore her hearts' calling to re-enter the coaching world, and finally surrendered to the Universal winks she received

- revelations of her time training in NYC and the resulting unfolding of her life's work and passion helping women break through the ties that bind them in stories of playing stuck, small and like their needs don't matter

13 Nov 2022The Quest to Find Self Worth with Mariska Anderson00:55:30

YA adventure/fantasy author Mariska Anderson shares her story of the quest to find her "worthiness switch".

During this episode Mariska and I chat about:

- What she describes as her big leap, which led to a deep hole which she is now very proud to have climbed out of, and the breadcrumbs of this road which have ultimately led to her delivering her writing gifts to the world.

- Her dislike of labels (bios included) and how these feel like unattainable, unreachable (not to mention boring!) boxes which limit her self-expression- Seeking worth outside of herself, and the feeling of “fumbling around in the dark trying to find the worthiness switch”, despite living an outwardly successful academic career and achieving a PhD in sustainable agriculture.

- The next step after academic career, which including qualifications in many coaching modalities and another dark moment of the soul in terms of physical and financial burnout

- The unfurling of Mariska’s pattern of waiting for someone else to bestow her worth or their approval, her subsequent allergy to institutions and the freedom this has opened up for her as an author

- And the guiding light of Mariska speaking about how alive and real her characters are to her, anyhow this is the culmination of all the precious things that brought her deep contentment and joy from her childhood.

This is such a heart-warming, illuminating conversation.

Thank you Mariska for sharing your story with us.

You can find Mariska’s pride and joy - the first (self published - screw the publishing institutions!) book in the Kismet Map series: Olivia Jones and the Boone & Crockett Kismet Map, here.

10 Nov 2022Why can you not say YES to yourself? with Kylie Patchett00:50:50

In this solo episode, host Kylie Patchett asks another high quality question (because playing it safe and on the surface ain’t going to gift us our best life, right? We’ve gotta to go DEEP and ask the quality questions!): Why Can you NOT say YES to yourself?

I cover the common reasons why the women I work with (and my friends, and myself!) say NO to feeling good, being clear on what they want, taking care of themselves on all levels and it all comes back to shitty, old, heavy, outdated beliefs like:

- It’s not okay for me to feel good, to want what I want
- It’s not ok for me to put my needs first
- It is my role to take care of others, to people please or be the good girl
- I am waiting for permission from someone else
- I am waiting for love and approval from an external source
- I cannot forgive the person who hurt me, so I cannot feel good

So where is that really getting us? And what is the cost of holding back feeling good, love, attention and approval to ourselves? To ourselves, our families, our communities, our world?

It is time to take a bloody good look at the old stories, fears and conditioning and
C H O O S E our new stories, our new commitment to honouring our own needs, and deliberately put ourselves in environments which invite us to be fully seen, fully heard and continually coming home to the powerful, magical women we were born to be.

21 Nov 2022Disrupting Diet Culture and cultivating Food Freedom with Bianca Skilbeck01:07:57

Bianca is a clinical hypnotherapist who trained at The Academy of Hypnotic Science, the largest training school in clinical hypnotherapy in Australia, recognised by the Australian Skills Quality Authority. Bianca has a special interest in working with people who experience disordered eating, anxiety, and the intersecting issues of gut-health and function which so often present for patients in these spaces.

In our first “healer/helper” style episode, we speak to an expert about the stories that keep us from being Wild + (finally fcking) Free.

We talk about:

- Bianca’s own personal experience of discombobulated body image, anorexia and disordered eating in her teens, 20s and early 30s

- Kylie’s personal experience with emotional eating, “food addiction”, disordered eating and healing from her own 30+ decades yo-yo style diet-culture hell, and how she came to the realisation at the beginning of 2022 that a big F off change needed to happen

- The concept of Acceptance Commitment Therapy’s “creative helplessness” and how Bianca stealthily uses this to wake up her clients (Kylie included) to the unhelpful patterns that have around body image, body love and lack of real self acceptance

- Kylie’s journey in the past 9 months from food obsessions and dangerous restrictive eating practices in a “food addiction” cult (which led to binge eating behaviours) to shift towards a year free from diets

- The real science around the concept of “food addiction” and disrupting all the common myths of the diet culture industry, including the deeply engrained society-conditioned belief that “skinnier is healthier”

- The evidence behind health at every size, which clearly shows that it is the presence of healthy behaviours like not smoking, moderate alcohol intake, eating fruits and veggies every day and exercising 3 times a week that dictates H E A L T H (and not the size clothes you wear or the number on the scale)

- Body image distress, where it comes from, and the flow-on effects of trying to “control our bodies” has on other areas of life - if you find yourself with a need control in your parenting, your finances, your home, your career, your [fill in the blank], you N E E D to listen in to this!

- The real cost of being tied to spending emotional, mental and spiritual bandwidth on body image and dieting, and Kylie’s massive shift towards living a fuller version of her true self since she started doing this work

24 Nov 2022Discovering your True Desires with Samantha Leith01:01:53

The Extraordinary Samantha Leith's mission is to entertain, educate and empower people from all over the world, guiding them with the tools and coaching they need to Be Extraordinary.

When Sam answered my invite to come on the pod she answered sure question “what big leap are you called to share?” Like this …“Getting over the ‘numb’ years and creating the business I actually wanted”, then casually throws in this line: “shedding 50kgs, being diagnosed with ADHD and diving into a year of bonking”.

So yep, I knew it was going to be an epic, real, deep chat!! Here's the big, beautiful life-changing themes we dive into in this episode:

- Sam's journey through the "numb years", after deciding she had to tick the boxes of being a "sensible" single mother from pregnancy, and how caring for her mother added new layers of responsibility, pushing Sam further down the totem pole

- the beginning of her re-emerging, and the story of where it all began - a night of staking her claim on her sexual desires and the flow on lessons that unfolded around being crystal clear with what we desire in all areas of life

- Sam's disconnection from feelings and suicide attempts at ages 11 and 21, and how she has now shifted from thinking her way through life to feeling her way

- the key realisation we make around true intimacy and connection and how not being our full Selves steals the entire world from really knowing, supporting and loving us

- Sam's ADHD diagnosis at age 47, the cloud of forgiveness this has unfurled, and how this was the final pieces in the Sam being her full Self puzzle

- How Sam's personal brand of calling is - entertain, educate and empower - (like a cross between Tony Robbins and Bette Middler!) and her invitation to create your own creed

You can find Sam's Extraordinary self online here.

28 Nov 2022Rock Bottom to Rising with Resilience with Nicole Liddell01:04:56

Wild + (finally fcking) Free episode 15: Rock Bottom and Rising with Resilience with Nic Liddell

I have known the delicious Nic Liddell for years, ever since we trained together (way back in the day I even did a mini-triathlon and she did a few REAL ones!), and reconnecting on this pod and continuing our conversation long after we stopped recording has been a really deep joy for me. In this ep we get the realest and rawest ever with:

- What Nic thought was her big life metamorphosis when she took up training and lost a chunk of weight in her 30s and her subsequent realisations about weight as a protective mechanism and how she found her nerve endings feeling too raw and vulnerable once the protection was shed

- How receiving the judgement from close friends and family members around her putting her needs first and not living up to their definition of a "good mother" became something she had to learn to live with to live her best life

- Nic's key partnership after her marriage broke down elicited a pattern of "turning herself inside out to try to fix or heal" her partner and how this relationship ultimately caused her to draw a line in the sand and declare "I am not going to be anything but myself just to try to be loved and accepted

- How dissolving this pattern caused Nic to lose her internal compass, how she felt lost and experienced social anxiety, and experienced her version of rock bottom

- The pivotal moment when Nic was told by her doctor she was on the verge of a mental breakdown, and how she decided on a whim to enrol in a Bachelor of Psychology despite having 39 cents in her bank account - a decision she puts down to making a clear decision that if she was going to be in so much pain, there H A D to be a light at the end of the tunnel and something good would come from it

- How 6 years later, Nic has recently graduated with a First Class Honours degree, despite being conditioned as a kid to believe that girls didn't go to University, and that she just needed to find a man and settle down and have kids.

- Nic's own journey healing patterns of co-dependency and deep self-doubt born out of growing up in a household with a parent suffering significant mental health distress, and a juicy discussion about Nic's theory around "empathy" being a protective response from a fried nervous system stuck in time by trauma

- A deep dive into the gift (and discomfort for a recovering co-dependent) of setting boundaries and a farm house analogy for keeping your heart and mind safe

Following 6 years of study and single mamahood, Nic is now settling in to working full time and taking care of herself, and enjoying the result of years of rapid evolution and shedding skin. Thank you so, so much Nic for sharing your story (and given we didn't even scratch the surface on the maiden-mother-crone and discard by the patriarchy stories we were going to dive into, look forward to having you back for episode 2.

- the deep discomfort of being forced to subscribe the "common weight loss advice" to eat far less whilst working as a new graduate in the weight loss industry, and how this ultimately served as the driver behind Ange's decision to do nutrition "her way" and breaking all the rules

- so mush status-quo challenging gold that has her defy all the 1200 calories, starve yourself to stay as lean as you possibly can be diet culture BS out there, and the true cost of this deprivation has on our bodies as they age and transition through the perimenopause years and beyond

- the key "health ingredients" - think of it like a health cake - a batter of nutrition foundations, the icing of consciously fuelling your exercise and the final sprinkles of specific supplementation where nutrition alone is not enough - NEWSFLASH starting with the sprinkles without the two steps before is NOT going to help you lose weight or be healthier, because there's so much more to the puzzle.

- why an essential thread of what she teaches is how women can harness their menstrual cycle for the spectacular superpower that it is, how most nutrition and even exercise advice is based on studies of men, and how the fact that we are not just little men and are very different physiologically means we need F E M A L E specific support.

- the damage we can even unwittingly create when congratulating people on weights loss, and how we have to stop this obsession with the [weight or appearance = worth] equation, starting with how we speak to our daughters and grand-daughters about how they "look pretty"

and finally Ange and my common bond of the magic which comes from combining evidence-based science with side salad of "woo-woo" to help women create real, long-lasting, feel-freaking-good changes in their life!

We could have spoken for hours!

12 Dec 2022Finally Free to Be Me: Sharing and Shedding Stories with Krissy Holloway00:53:33

The beautiful inside and out Krissy Holloway is a Mum of three, Glam-ma to six who lives on a 40 acre farm in South Australia, owns a Boutique Day Spa and facilitates women's circles and kid's mindfulness programs on her beautiful property.

Krissy and I found ourselves recently inside of a business group speaking about sharing our businesses and the reasons why we, as women in particular, can sometimes sabotage sharing our truth because we have an underlying fear of being truly seen and being truly heard. It was inside of this space that Krissy had a huge realisation around how her past dysfunctional relationship was limiting her level of comfort and safety when sharing her soul's work.

In this episode we dive into:

- the key realisation that Krissy had around a past relationship having all the hallmarks of domestic violence and how this relationship still echoes the stories of low self-worth decades later, and how she is now becoming more FREE to be herself when questioning this crappy conditioning

- the attributes Krissy now identifies as DV, and the heartfelt advice around controlling behaviour and needing to ask for permission for anything that Krissy would now go back and gift to her younger self

- how Krissy's set point of self-worth was so negatively impacted by the pattern of walking on eggshells around a partner who swung from alcohol-fuelled abuse, to deep charm and flattery in their circle of friends and community, to love bombing following each episode, which she turned into needing to try harder or do better as a partner

- Krissy reputation in her 20s and 30s for having a quick temper and being labelled "B1" for biggest b!tch in town, and our resulting chat about anger being a natrual consequence of having your boundaries crossed and how flawed our societal conditioiing around women standing up for themselves automatuically being mis-labeleld (even by ourselves) as being a b!tch

- Krissy's recent experience with cervical cancer, and the resulting aftermath from being thrown into medical menopause, and how drastically different her experience through hospitalisation and medical procedure this time around with her now husband Glen was, as compared to during the deeply dysfunctional earlier relationship

- Krissy past 20 years' experience as a masseuse and beautician and how both COVID and cervical cancer has demanded a pivot into the soul work Krissy is called to do - and how she is now entering a whole new space and grace of holding space for women and children to come and connect and play together

Thank you so much to Krissy, who was feeling tender about sharing her truth, but nonetheless stood up, spoke and claimed her freaking power back.

I am so so excited about what this newfound realisation and freedom to be YOU will bring to the world!

06 Dec 2022Loving Yourself to Say No with Cheryl Miethke01:01:40

Wild + (finally fcking) Free: Loving Yourself Enough to Say No with Cheryl Miethke

** Please note this episode contains descriptions of domestic violence and control in the first 10 minutes of the episode, and could be triggering for some listeners - please trust your own instincts and take care of yourself if this could be a trigger for you. **

Cheryl reached out to me after seeing the pod on the interwebs and asked if she could share her story, and when she filled out the questions I sent out concluded her answers with this: “The biggest reason for doing the podcast is to let go of shame, own my story and find my inner voice. I don’t want to be silent anymore”. Holy wowzers in my trousers, that really hit me in the heart.

In this episode, Cheryl who was tentative at first to share and touch nervous, unfurled into a deep diving source of wisdom on compassion, expansion and trusting your inner guidance system. We cover so much ground in this one, including:

 - The soul fuelled decision to make a break from a dysfunctional and violent relationship with her 9-month-old and 3-year-old daughters and three suitcases

- How rebuilding her life from nothing has been an arduous journey, but one she describes in retrospect as the “perfect place to start”

- The perspective she now has on how “broken” she felt walking on eggshells, and awareness that surfaced after her Dad’s death around the relationships she was modelled in childhood

- How growing up the eldest of five resulted in Cheryl assigning herself the “sticky note” of the role of parent and how this has coloured her ability to access joy and light-heartedness as an adult

- Reflections on pain being a great gift and teacher, and how Cheryl sees her shift form disempowered to empowered through the challenges life has brought to her

- How Cheryl finds solace and wisdom in the cycles of nature, and the gift the ocean delivered to her on the morning of our interview

- And how to love yourself enough to say no.

Bowing  long and deep Cheryl, for your vulnerability and courage in sharing your story. Our entire podcast community benefits from the wisdom and expansion you share with us.

01 Dec 2022Being a B!tch or Beautiful Boundaries with Kylie Patchett00:31:38

Welcome to another solo ep featuring a high quality question: Are you really being a b!tch or are you simply expressing your beautiful boundaries?

In this episode I call to self awareness around:

- the 90 second rule of emotions and how experiencing an emotion any longer indicates that we are staying stuck in the story which amplifies it, and how to dig underneath the surface to uncover what these are

- How our emotional state is always talking to us,  how Kylie found herself stuck in a reactive anger loop after an unpleasant interaction and how in kindsight she can see that this was driven from old well-worn fears around not being seen or heard, and not being good enough no matter how hard I try

- How we treat people the way we want to be treated and how, particularly for good girls and people pleasers, setting and keeping accountable to our own boundaries can feel deeply uncomfortable and the missing piece in Kylie's latest boundary setting

- A brief dive into Traditional Chinese Medicine Five Element Theory and how the Earth meridian, the way we were first nourished or "mothered" and permeable boundaries are all intertwined

- The power of pausing after an emotional trigger and what can be gained from responding later rather than reacting in the moment

- Reframing the concept of being a b!tch for clearly communicating our needs and holding our boundaries into "being a b!tch and proud!"

26 Dec 2022Meaning Making + Magic Making with Bella Payne01:19:43

High Priestess, healer, retreat & circle facilitator, author, mentor, therapist Bella Payne of Wiccid Wholistic Therapies shared her no-holds-barred story of "coming out of the broom closet".  Bella and I are friends from way back and was super lovely to reconnect and get caught up on all that Bella has created for herself over the past few years.

In this extra juicy ep we cover a lot of ground, including:

- Bella's journey from feeling like her Self was split in two - one part "average" beauty business and one part spiritual space holder, and the visit from a Wedge Tailed Eagle heralded her turning point and invitation to expand

- how the integration of these two halves has created such depth of flow and abundance in Bella's life, business and relationships when she chose to share her more than 28 years as a practising witch

- Bella's download which helped her to create her yearly calendar (link below) from the space she took for integration and rest at the end of last year

- the generations old Witch Wound that 80-90% of all of Bella's clients hold, which keeps them stuck in generational, societal and not being seen and heard trauma patterns

- the ripple effect that rolled out into Bella's relationship with her husband and two daughters when she stepped up to claim her whole self and how she has softened from "rip your throat out" aggressive tiger energy to "contained, quite power" assertive Tiger energy

- the stages of a woman's life, and the stage between mother and crone which Kylie hadn't heard of before which is Maga [described by Jane Hardwick Collings as "the extended Mother phase of the Triple Goddess, after Mother and before Crone."] and Bella's experience of perimenopause

- how the roar of Bella's dreams and vision for the future she was calling in became so much louder than her fear.

You can find Bella and her Magick online at www.wiccid.com.au and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/WiccidWholisticTherapies

14 Dec 2022Challenging the 'You Must Love Your Mother' Myth with Geraldine Crane01:24:45

A Serene, Spiritual Empowered Guide, Geraldine Crane helps women whose hearts have been hurt by their mothers, to find peace, regain their strength, and develop a loving relationship with themselves by reconnecting them with their inner divinity, their inner resilience, and the love of their spirit guides.

Geraldine was introduced to me via our mutual friend Cat Marshall who will be in your ears in another episode coming soon. We chatted for literally 2 + hours meaning Geraldine stayed up till way past midnight so we could connect and let's be honest: compare notes.

In this episode. we discuss:

- Her professional background as a probation officer, substance misuse officer and Domestic Abuse Recovery worker; and how it was during her time working with domestic violence victims, that she realised a lot of the abuses she was discussing with her clients was all too familiar

- How as a result 5 years ago, Geraldine finally cut contact with her mother after her therapist asked her "what would your life look like without your mother in it?" and she realised just how toxic and harmful the relationship had been for her

- How this led to a huge healing journey: Her reconnection with her spiritual side, meditating daily and channeling messages and how once Geraldine started reading spiritual texts and working with a 3 Principles coach, she started healing her mother wounds

- How the freedom from this relationship led to Geraldine embracing who she was and helping other women to do the same through Serene Spiritual Coaching and Hypnotherapy.

- challenging the myth of the "You Must Love Your Mother" and the damage this does when people overlook or are unable to recognise more subtle forms of abuse

- the understanding that for whatever reason, Geraldine's other had limited capacity to be a present, loving parent, but how as adult women we must embrace our power and understand that, regardless of this, we also have a right to peace

Phew, if you have a weird, wonky or anything less than warm + wonderful relationship with your Mum, there'd be some GOLD in this one for you no doubt about it.

You can find Geraldine online at www.geraldinecrane.com and her Facebook community here https://www.facebook.com/groups/serenespiritualempowered/

02 Jan 2023Heart Healing and the Happiness Trap with Cat Marshall01:16:48

Cat Marshall is a Fearless Fairy Godmother to female entrepreneurs, helping them heal the hidden wounds of their heart to embody their worth, evolve their intuitive powers and expand their impact.

Walking away from a settled personal life and career, Cat spent a decade breaking the mould of her own life and rebuilding it from scratch. She went from the grief of believing she would never have children of her own, to soul-seeking adventures in Bali on a 0% credit card; from the surprise of having 2 baby boys, to her older son’s cancer diagnosis at the age of just 3; from start-up business failures and her own journey of growth and spiritual awakening, to becoming a Heart Healer and bestselling author.

Cat is an old entrepreneurial friend from way back, and in this episode we dive into;

- how after her then partner proposed to her she found herself thinking “ummm, something just doesn’t feel right here”, and how saying no to the “happiness trap” of thinking just because you have all the things (relationship, career, nice house, plant-buying trips on weekends) that you “SHOULD” be happy, has set her free in ways she couldn’t imagine

- how focusing on doing what she loves and following her heart led her to meeting a martial arts partner who quickly become her life partner, and how she found herself unexpectedly pregnant in her late 30s after grieving not having kids

- how from the outside Cat appeared confident, but this was far from her internal feelings that nothing was ever good enough and she was never meeting her own expectations, and how her journey of healing transformed her to evolve deep levels of self-love and trust, and develop her intuitive gifts

- how the practise of extreme gratitude and connection to everyday magic has helped her traverse some extremely difficult times, including navigating being between homes with a newborn while her partner retrained as a firefighter, and traversing the past 3.5 years of her older son’s childhood cancer journey after he was diagnosed with Leukaemia.

When not child wrangling her 6 and 4 year old boys, Cat can be found healing hearts around the world, and paddle boarding on the stunning coastline in West Wales, UK, where she now lives.

You can find Cat and her spectacular self online at:

19 Dec 2022Whose rules are these anyway? with Kylie Patchett00:39:09

Back with the final solo episode for 2022, Kylie asks "Whose rules are these anyway?", and explores:

- the "sticky note" you were labelled with in your family (or caregivers) of origin and how this role came with a set of rules you were taught to follow in order to gain love and acceptance (or conversely negative attention) in this family system

- an example of Kylie's sticky note of the "smart one" and how this devolved into patterns of perfectionism, workaholism and a disconnect from head, heart and soul as a result

- how to tell if this is a rule or knowing from your Higher Self, or a rule from a care giver / family member which is costing you way too much in the here and now

- A simple yet powerful reframing exercise to challenge these rules one by one to discover their source, their innate expectations and what they are costing in your current reality

- Kylie's wish for you as we draw 2022 to a close, for love and peace and connection, a circle of support, and the space and grace to take stock of the past 12 months and appreciate all you have grown through and all you are grateful for

23 Jan 2023A String of Loving Moments with Linda Ireland01:23:44

Linda Ireland is someone I have always thought of as radiant, glowing with purpose and loving connection. I've long admired her ability to balance and bring together a super successful business life in the world of finance and numbers AND be a deeply spiritual yogi and conscious wealth. I was very much looking forward to our midlife magic interview and let me tell you I was deeply in need of some of her wisdom today.

In this pod ep we dive into:

- two pivotal conversations which shaped Linda's life, one with her Mum around not depending on anyone else for financial security, and one with her then yoga teacher which ultimately created shame around the perceived duality of spirituality and business

- Linda's approach to building her successful business which has nothing to do with business planning and everything to do with allowing her intuition to be her guide, and following the "pings" she delivers

- how a friend and Maori shaman challenged Linda to reintegrate the parts of herself where she had split the financial whizz and spiritual being parts of herself and how this separation has caused exhaustion and burnout

- Selling her finance business in 2019, at the time the second largest Mortgage Choice brokerage in Australia, taking some time off to do some consulting, then a spiritual sabbatical - which she reveals she had to take a sabbatical from all over again!

- How life has since opened to where she feels peaceful in her heart and more able to be the observer - specially of the parts of herself which still need reparenting which have previously been the drivers of the pushing / striving energy

- Linda's change in direction, which feels like all the pieces have come together to step into her life Calling, as the creator of a natural hair care company and how her business is now a "string of loving moments"

Linda is a renowned speaker on conscious connection, conscious business development and conscious wealth and proud founder of BodFood - you  can find Linda and her natural Hair Care Co BodFood here.

09 Jan 2023The Menopausal Magic of "I have arrived" with Jeanne Cotter01:06:53

Jeanne is a friend I knew on the Sunny Coast yonks ago and have reconnected with since she moved into my neighbourhood a bit over a year ago. She's 61 and she's the perfect example of who I want to be when I grow up - radiant, joyful, unapologetically her Full Self! She also happens to be an amazing artist, and someone who has reignited in me a deep yearning for creativity just for the sake of play and self expression.

In our episode, Jeanne and I dive into so much - menopause, marriage, manifesting, and all sorts of magic- including:

- Jeanne's first (abusive and dysfunctional) marriage at 21, swiftly followed by a baby at 23 and divorced at 24, and a second (stale, dysfunctional) marriage at 25 which lasted for 26 years; and how when her youngest left home she decided to leave too.

- how a deep knowing that it was time to be free and finally find out how to be by herself emerged from the culmination of quitting smoking (Jeanne says healing addiction creates so much more space in the mind and it was on quitting that she found her superpowers), her Dad being critically ill and her failing marriage

- the leap of faith that saw Jeanne start her own graphic design business, and how hard and lonely that was at times, but how her drive for security drove her early business journey and money making drive

- all the subsequent nudges, Universal winks and gut-led leaps which has led Jeanne to not only circle back to living in the same city she raised her small children in, but also meet her husband and find her dream house

- how Jeanne asks her angels and guides for specifically what she wants, and the very detailed manifestation list - including perfect teeth! - that led her to meet her soul mate Brian and get engaged after a whirlwind 3 month courtship

- how as part of her journey, she discovered art, which had always been part of her in many different ways through her life, and how she described discovering in her late 40s soft pastels as "feeling like something had woken inside of her"

- Jeanne's firm anchor belief that by trusting serendipity or coincidence to work it's magic, your life will unfold as its meant to and how trusting herself finds her at 61, blessed to be living her best life with gratitude and joy.

You can find Jeanne's divine art skills - including online tutorials at Delicious Art.

** Please note that due to first day back for 2023  recording this interview and two others have a few sound quality challenges for me the host ... ooopsie! Please listen past them and enjoy this episode nonetheless and be assured that we're back to high quality after this wobble! **

13 Jan 2023Finding Light in the Darkness with Emma Grey01:05:09

Emma is a novelist, feature writer, photographer, professional speaker and accountability coach. She has been writing fiction since she first fell for Anne of Green Gables at fourteen and is the author of the YA novels Unrequited: Boy band meets girl, Tilly Maguire and the Royal Wedding Mess, the non-fiction title, I Don’t Have Time (co-authored with Audrey Thomas), and the parenting memoir Wits’ End Before Breakfast! Confessions of a Working Mum. Along with her schoolfriend, dual ARIA-winning composer, Sally Whitwell, Emma co-wrote two musicals, Deadpan Anti-Fan and Fairytale Derail, based on her teen novels.

She wrote her first adult novel, The Last Love Note (released 24th January -  order on presale here, in the wake of her husband’s death. It’s a fictional tribute to their love, an attempt to articulate the magnitude of her loss and a life-affirming commitment to hope.

Well this was always going to be a beautiful conversation with Emma, a woman I have been connected with via a mutual friend, and last saw in person just before the most unfathomable tragedy struck her life. Since then, I have been observing Emma and her courageous family step through grief, and continually chose, again and again to lean into joy, connection and meaning together.

In this episode, Emma shares:

- The unexpected death of husband and love her life Jeff when she was 42 and her daughters were in Year 10 and 12 (with all those final exams hurdles) and her son was just 5, and her Mum was progressing with advanced dementia

- The impact a comment from Emma’s friend Rebecca Sparrow who lost her stillborn daughter said about wanting her daughter’s death to turn the light up in her life, not down; and the choices she has been making since the day after Jeff’s funeral to make meaning, choose light and focus on joy in each grief-drowned moment

- The gift of a major creative endeavour co-writing and launching a High School Musical with school friend Sal and drama teacher Ness in the first year after Jeff’s died and how through the blessings of glitter cannons and disco balls, this provided the perfect distraction from to her overwhelming grief

- Emma’s decision to move out of the home where Jeff died and build a new home (starting with literally sitting in the dirt visioning her desires for a light-filled sanctuary) has been an essential step in the grieving process.

- Emma’s advice to her 30 year old self, and that how even knowing the fact that she would “survive the unimaginable loss of her life partner” would probably not change anything she did

16 Jan 2023Ageing, Bodies and Change: The Naked Truth with Niamh Daly01:27:10

Founder of Yinstinct Yoga, Niamh Daly teaches men and women of all ages, but also specialises in Yoga for Menopause, and trains Yoga teachers around the world how to adapt Yoga to support women in this phase of life. She created Certificate in Teaching Yoga for the Stages of Menopause  in 2020, at the time it was one of just 2 courses of its kind in the world.

Yinstinct Yoga balances traditional Yoga with up-to-date research in anatomy, biomechanics, functional movement, and somatics, and with the reasonable and compassionate expectations of what a body which has lived YOUR life can, and wants to do.

Having recently completed Niamh's Certificate in Yoga for the Stages of Menopause, I am grateful to her personally for opening up my field of possibilities around ageing and particularly the transition through Perimenopause and beyond.

In this episode we cover so much ground, including:

- letting go of the pressure of lying by omission to her yoga students when Niamh was no longer able to safely do intensely challenging postures during the perimenopause transition, and how taking care for your joints is so important for all of us

- Niamh's revolutionary approach to shifting persepctive around perimenopause and menopause through yoga - including being open and honest about her own symptoms and journey including anxiety, brain fog, low mood, hot flushes

- deep honesty around a period of unbearable anxiety and feelings of "just wanting this to be over" and how this personal experience has helped so many of her clients to feel heard and understand that sometimes the whole truth about peromenopause is "this is ok AND it is shit"

- how this sharing symptoms and self awareness has led Niamh to create a body of work to teach specific certification for yoga teachers modifying their teaching style and designing classes which do no harm and instead support student's mental health, bone health, stress levels and overall connection to their bodies

- how pleasure and ease can be guiding lights for reconnection to our body's and the impact of this on our emotional, physical and mental health

- reframing the notion that we had "boundless capacity" in our 20s and 30s, alongside the knowledge we may need to be more discerning with our precious energy when we recognise the real capacity of the human experience in midlife

- the ridiculous idealisation of our younger years and productivity and challenging the concept that we somehow are only perfect and valuable when we are young, supple and perfectly unwrinkled

- Niamh's decision to do a naked truth photo shoot recently to shine the light on the whole truth of body perception, body dysmorphia and what our clothes can hide, even as yoga teachers in all our skinny, suppler glory (said with tongue firmly in cheek!)

This was such a joy to me to be able share the perspective and status quo challenging gold from someone I look to as a guiding light in women's wellbeing in midlife and beyond.

02 Feb 2023Living in Pono: Honouring the Balance of our True Nature with Bianca Aiono01:00:24

Bianca is the Sales Maven of The Supercoach Academy and a co-director of The Spiral School of Awakening and she's on a mission to help passionate experts who have the best transformational skills (not the slickest marketing) to get in front of the people who need their help the most.

Bianca has worked with thousands of driven professional women to increase their personal confidence, boost their income, and feel energised in their purpose, as well as built 4 multiple-6 figure award winning businesses in the wellness industry, and gives holistic sales & strategic advice behind the scenes of 7 and 8 figure businesses.

She is proud of her Pasifika-Maori heritage and embraces indigenous cultures in her shamanic sales consulting service and loves the terribly, delightful challenge of being a mother to 4 young children, while running multiple businesses.

Believe or not, many moons ago Bianca (who I refer to as B) was my Crossfit coach! She's always felt to me like a fierce warrior woman so I was really looking forward to hearing how the motherhood (hello four kids including triplets after a fertility journey!) and spiritual path since we last spoke has honed and potentially softened  this warrior spirit.

In this episode, we dive into:

- Bianca's Pasifika-Maori heritage and how the (re)connection to this ancestry and the tribal ways (as opposed to materialism, consumerism, gotta-get-more-ism that drives the average Western society) has ignited such a ripple of power, balance and harmony in her life

- B's journey from extreme masculine elite athlete who represented Australia in 6 different sports to the deep lessons in surrender and flow throughout her fertility journey to the extreme feminine of carrying three precious triplets for 34 weeks and birthing them naturally **warning** get the tissues ready for B's sharing around her calling of these babies and the conscious decision to carry all three of them

- How motherhood to 4 bambinos under 3 and it's demands invited a shift from high performance fitness coaching to high performance sales coaching, and how this has been the perfect culmination of all the transformational skills, confidence and alignment coaching B has ever mastered

- What B describes as "splinters of integrity" where acting even 1 degree out of whack with our true nature creates huge disturbances in our life, relationships and abundance, and the "manifestation wake" which unfolds from living in complete integrity.

Holy wow this was all sorts of truth-talking, status-quo challenging soul balm for me, and I know it will be for you too!

06 Feb 2023Movement as Medicine to Come Back to Me with Jacqui Toohey00:58:04

Jacqui Toohey is a Women's Health & Fitness Coach. She helps women unravel the messy of mid-life, understand what's going on, and learn how to use movement, exercise, and lifestyle strategies to live a full and fabulous second half of life. Her passion for fitness has been lifelong, and seeing her Mum battle with Alzheimer's and osteoporosis which are both conditions which can be heavily influenced by lifestyle factors has given her the drive to educate and empower women to make a huge impact on their own health and longevity.

- Jac's journey collecting breadcrumbs in earlier life, including professional qualifications, time in hospital rehab settings, experience in Sports Management and training clients 1:1 and in small groups alongside her own lived experience of perimenopause, which have all culminated in the deeper clarity and expression of her Calling to help women make sense of their own messy middles

- Her fown Mum's health journey with conditions including osteoporosis and Alzheimer's which can be greatly influenced by lifestyle factors in earlier life and Jac's reflections on being part of leading change in understanding and awareness around how to future proof our health

- Jac's own love of movement and exercise as medicine and as a way to come back to her self and how the identity of Jac the runner helped to allow her some space and grace in those early kid-wrangling years when she could easily have been "just" Jac the Mum and Jac the wife

- How our level of understanding around perimenopause is the "last P" cycle of life standing - we have come so long in our understanding of our own needs through Puberty, Pregnancy and PostPartum - now it's time to break down the perimenopause barrier for future generations so they're not ignorant or blindsided by peri peri symptoms showing up

- How Jac's own experience with brain fog could easily have been feared and misinterpreted as the beginning of Alzheimer's rather than one of the common symptoms of perimenopause which for most of uf decrease with Menopause the years beyond

- Jac and my deep love of strength training, a BS busting chat around a fear of "bulking up" still held by some women and the huge array of physical, mental and self esteem benefits of strength training at all ages, and particularly in midlife and beyond

- how Jac's experience of perimenopause occurred at the same time as deep introspection and understanding and the beginning of a process to set herself wild and free from the patterns of staying small and safe, good girl, people pleasing and doing the "sensible, responsible" thing

Ohhh the deep and quiet power in the wisdom Jac shares really hit home - I dare you to listen to this ep and not get really super, duper clear on anywhere you are not honouring your own needs in this messy middle.

26 Jan 2023Speaking Up to Challenge Taboos in the Workplace with Lou Johnson01:07:43

Lou Johnson believes in the power of sharing stories to build empathy, understanding and connection.

For three decades leading teams across multinational, SME and startup book publishers, Lou has worked with authors and brands to shape their stories, and led companies to connect people with them. As a publisher, leader, writer and speaker she is particularly interested in breaking down taboos, inclusion and empowerment and advocating for positive change in the workplace.

Lou recently wrote a Women’s Agenda article which was met with a cacophony of cheers from women impacted by non-inclusivity. I read "If we don’t talk about menstruation, motherhood, mental health, menopause (and the messy in-between of life and work) nothing will ever change" and my first thought was "I have to speak to her!", and she said yes!

In this ep:

- Fear of being seen as "weak" which led Lou pushing through significant stressors and not feeling able to take time off

- The modelling required of workplace leaders to lean towards more inclusive workplaces where speaking about periods, pregnancy, perimenopause is normalised and even welcomed

- How enabling all humans in a workplace to honour their own flow - whether that be menstrual, hormonal fluctuations in perimenopausal, circadian rhythm or any other - would enhance role satisfaction and productivity

- The importance of our Gen X generation speaking out and leading the change, including our hope for more inclusive workplaces for our daughters

- Lou's work in financial empowerment and gender paradigms around wage gap and super which make a massive difference to the financial wellbeing of women

- The honour of being able to publish two books which literally changed Lou's perimenopausal experience, The M Word: How to thrive in menopause and Great sex starts at 50: How to age-proof your libido

30 Jan 2023Leaning in to Love with Elle Steele01:01:20

Elle Steele is a 5-time Australian Swimming representative, Paralympian and Gold medalist, who now works in the personal development space as The Self Belief Agent, energy healer and motivational speaker. Born with a congenital disability called Arthrogryposis, Elle’s life has been full of moments of great joy and sadness due to the continual change in her physical capabilities.

Living on the Surf Coast in Victoria, Elle’s life mission is to show others that despite all the heartache we may face, if we can be brave to heal our hearts, the ripple effect of this will help to heal the world.

Oh My Stars - you know when you have those "relationships" with someone on social media and you've watched so much of their content, it's totally like you have already met them, and then you realise you haven't and they're not aware that their your insta BFF?  Well that was me and my Elle Steele "relationship" so it was a whole new level of treat to meet this spunk of a soul today and record our episode.

We cover so much ground in this one - all the way from spiritual awakenings, disability "decision makers", and Elle's first download of her Starseed origins, including:

- The journey from a Australian repping, Paralympian sporting career to the shoulder injury which led to Elle's connection to her psychic abilities gifts and a beautiful Christmas shopping story of her connection with her also-psychic grandfather

- How Elle chooses to lean into love as opposed to anger when met with ignorance or increased attention of her body, and how choosing this response allows love and curiosity to flow to her in turn

- How Elle's congenital disability literally shaped her first seconds here on earth and impacts of living in a body which happens to have a disability in a society which (still in 2023, which is totally gob-smacking to me!) automatically labels disability as a negative thing and different bodies as wrong

- How Elle is now "out and proud" with all aspects of herself including both her professional business background and her psychic nature, but how this was not always the way. We also go on a thought-provoking tangent around how Self Belief has to be the foundation for business.

- How right in the middle a fave movies, that Elle received the very first download of information from the Pleiades and her realisation she was a Starseed who chose to create controversy and invite people to heal themselves as a gateway to healing the Collective

16 Feb 2023Womb Wisdom: Rebirthing our True Selves with Sara Brooke01:04:53

Sara Brooke is an Energy Worker, Holistic Facilitator and Ceremonialist who supports individuals and groups to come home to come home to their true nature and to re-seed their connection and belonging to the earth.

Sara works with people worldwide guiding them to connect to their authentic soul medicine through her 1:1 sessions, seasonal ceremonies and transformative group containers. Her work weaves together energy healing, rites of passage, earth wisdom and subtle plant medicine. Sara loves inspiring people to embrace their humanness, reclaim their joyful heart and creative power.

OOOOHeeee this one is a powerful bloody episode if ever you heard it! Sara and I haven't spoken since my last business iteration, but man oh man what a joy to reconnect and go deep, fast. We discuss:

- how Sara's business name The Space in Between came to her, and how she has since been schooled in the continual re-imaging of self, learning how to be really comfortable in the "goo" in between one version of ourselves and another

- the death and rebirth cycles in Sara's life, starting with her Saturn return shift in her 20s from super masculinised (is that a real word!?) way of being in corporate to the feminine/masculine balances space-holder and healer she is today

- the myth of women having it all we were both sold back in all-girls school environments back in the 1980s and 1990s and the toll this has taken on our physical health in the recent decade

- and the personal unwinding of old patterns in seeking a partner through rose coloured glasses, and how the work of Psychologist Dorothy Tennov’s Woman of Limerance has impacted this journey

- how our wombs are the portal for our creativity and "re-birthing" of ourselves into the world and how permeable boundaries, people pleasing and over-giving create blockages in our womb spaces

- the true depth and power of womb healing done from an authentic, grounded space and Sara's 5 year-long mentorship in this healing (as opposed to what we call the "womb wankery" that has become a buzz word recently in the online space) and how this work can clear out our portal for re-birthing ourselves and our gifts to the world

We literally could have spoken for hours, and likely will in the near future for a second episode! Thanks so much Sara for sharing your wisdom with the world.

09 Feb 2023Heat, Sleep, Mood + Cognition: The Brain in Perimenopause with Dr Sarah McKay01:23:48

Dr Sarah McKay is a neuroscientist who translates brain research into strategies for professionals working in health, education and coaching. She received her PhD from Oxford, but after four years postdoc research, hung up her lab coat to set up a communications business bridging the gap between the lab and everyday life.

Sarah is the author of The Women's Brain Book—The neuroscience of health, hormones and happiness which explores the female lifespan through the lens of neurobiology. In 2019, Sarah hosted an episode of ABC Catalyst exploring brain health, bio-hacking and longevity. Sarah is the director of The Neuroscience Academy, which offers professional development training in applied neuroscience and brain health.

The scientist in me was totally geeking out before this interview and ironically after a horrible peri impacted sleep the night before, I finally got to interview Sarah. Strap yourself, there is SO MUCH you need to know about how your brain is impacting your journey through perimenopause, including:

- the biopsychosocial approach - bottom up, outside in, top down model - which explains how our brains receive data from our biology, our environment and our thoughts/emotions

- A broad brushstroke chat about the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis, the conversation between our brain and our ovaries and how it begins to change in perimenopause, causing fluctuating levels of estrogen month to month

- How the estrogen rollercoaster impacts your body's thermostat and the resulting "it's hot in here! It's hot in here!!!" messages to your brain - hello HOT flush/flashes and night sweats waking with a feeling of panic

- Sleep disturbances as a result the physical changes in perimenopause, and how over time the behavioural issues which can arise from sleep disturbance and together form a pattern of insomnia

- Sleep architecture in a healthy sleep cycle, the influence of body temperature, and how even if you are sleeping through the night that thermoregulation can result in waking feeling fatigued

- Sleep disturbances impact memory consolidation, emotional processing, physical regeneration processes and how important it is to protect the early stages of sleep to consolidate deep sleep

- Mood changes in perimenopause and how our bottom up biology makes us more vulnerable to other influences (stressful events, sleep disturbances, behaviour, challenges with kids and ageing parents)

- How perimenopause is a time of significant structural reorganisation in our brains, and the brain fog, word finding, and cognitive changes which can show up in perimenopause

- New research on the positive impact of HRT

You can find Sarah here
And preorder now for April 2023 Sarah's new book Baby Brain: The surprising neuroscience of how pregnancy and motherhood sculpt our brains and change our minds (for the better).

15 Feb 2023Perimenopausal Mental Health: My Personal Journey with Kylie Patchett00:49:58

Host Kylie Patchett's vulnerable share around her personal journey through the mood and mental health impacts of perimenopause, including:

- How as a biologist I am a little embarrassed to share how blindsided I was by some of the changes perimenopause have brought to me and why I'm so passionate about making sure women in their 30s are forewarned and therefore forearmed

- My decision to share the truth in my own journey in the hope that it helps others to be honest, to seek support and understand the factors which can influence mental health and mood

- The fact that I fell off a self-confidence cliff and walked through a deep valley of self doubt recently, and how deep emotional pain and grief from childhood came bubbling to the surface - and how I chose to deal with it in a completely new gentler way

- A word on trauma and how deep emotional pain can rise to the surface to be healed when we are more vulnerable to stressors and less able to "shove" emotional down with busy-ness or distraction

- How the same Self Care principles in my first book have become the framework for me to create a deeper keel of self care to cut through the sometimes stormy seas

- How I've come to understand that the impact on perimenopause on my mental health is a perfectly timed invite to deeper self compassion and a gentler way of being

- My friends in their 50s on the other side of Menopause and how they've helped me to see the same patterns of inability to cope and intolerance to stress about 5 years ago when they were about where I am now .. and the renewed lease of life these women which reminds me "this too shall pass"

How this entire process has resulted in a free guide for you called "Stand Take + Stake a Claim on your Delicious Midlife"

20 Feb 2023On Voice and Vulnerability with Kris Emery01:14:52

Kris Emery is a non-fiction editor for entrepreneurs, writers and speakers who are self-publishing for the first time. With 12+ years of working with words and a masters degree in linguistics and language analysis, Kris helps her clients write something they can be proud to put out there.

After writing and editing corporate communications, websites and self-published books for blue chips to bestsellers, it’s still Kris' favourite part of the project when my clients see their edits and say, “It sounds just like me, only better.”

Well, we started off on a riff about bending to others needs and the burnout that (almost always) follows, and ended up deep diving into all sorts around voice and vulnerability, including:

- How when Kris turned 40 she had a line in the sand moment of realisation that she had been keeping small, and not speaking up, and the deep grief that has emerged from feeling like she has wasted so much time not using her voice

- The distinction between finding your voice and finding it and learning to honour it, and how setting and keeping relationship boundaries has been a big part of Kris' journey since

- The beautiful flip side of intimacy which has developed as a result in her relationships and feeling far more connected to her loved ones than she has felt in her whole adult life

- The big leap that saw Kris write and publish her own book a year ago on her tenth business anniversary, and how the writing created a clarity of voice and boundaries that has rippled through all areas of life

- Lessons from exploring vulnerability and voice inside of pre-marital counselling with her then fiancée now husband, and how this shared dedication to honouring their voices inside of their relationship has helped them to become more aware of their own unhelpful patterns

- Finding your voice in business, and how Kris (like me) is allergic to creating content "on demand" and how she using her heart to inspire sharing helpful resources through a well of generosity, rather than expecting her muse to show up on schedule

- Getting caught up in the busy, busy and how this keeps us from taking the pause between stimulus and reaction, and how simply taking a breath has been a pivotal point of growth for Kris

You can find Kris online at www.destinationauthor.com on Instagram and Facebook and grab her book here

23 Feb 2023Recognising and Releasing Sacred Rage with Nic Liddell01:14:15

You first met the always inspiring Nic Liddell and her story of Rock Bottom to Raising with Resilience back in episode 15. If you haven't listened already, head over here

I have known the delicious Nic for years, ever since we trained together and since those days Nic has single-handedly raised three spectacular humans and recently finished a Degree in Psychology. Last time we chatted we had so much more to say, so I was excited to dive into chat #2.

And OMG did we go deep - initially our thoughts were speaking about anger, the purpose of anger and the ways in which we must learn to allow it to rise to the surface to be cleared, especially if that deep-seated emotion is originating in family patterns from decades ago (as it often is).

In this ep we speak about:

- Nic and my personal experience of anger and rage rising to the surface during the perimenopause transition and our theories on unexpressed patterns of being unseen and unheard which create layers and layers of anger that we do not get to process as little people, but does not magically disappear

- How our very understandable and even "justifiable" rage often shows up with shame attached, conditioned by the very early message of girls needing to be "nice, polite, quiet and passive"

- A powerful passage from the seminal book Women Who Runs with Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes on being stuck in old rage and the toll that this takes on energy and emotional balance

- The pattern of passive aggression which can emerge if we deny our anger, because these emotional charges have to come out somewhere even if we do not choose to honour and express them in healthy ways

- Nic's anger at the external misogyny and unconscious bias out there, her resulting demonisation of other women, and how this turned to internalised misogyny and anger at herself for believing the societal BS in the first place

- Our definition of stress and how our expectations around how we "should be feeling" holds us in a perpetual state of stress, until we surrender to the truth of our full, uncensored emotional experience

02 Mar 2023From Burnt Out to Embodied with Claire Connelly01:01:11

Claire Connelly is a certified Yin, Vinyasa, Core and Chair Yoga Instructor and Holistic Wellness Coach. Since early 2017 she has been coaching women to explore the benefits of what slowing down feels like in their bodies. Claire’s passion is to create a deeply nourishing environment where self-compassion, self-acceptance and connection can be cultivated through yoga and wellbeing coaching.

Claire’s gentle inclusive nature enables her to make all her students feel comfortable, and the yoga practice very accessible to everyone.
Claire can be found holding yoga classes in her local community and online. When she’s not teaching yoga she is often minding her grand babies, tending to her veggies and cooking wholesome food in her 50’s style kitchen.

Claire entered perimenopause at the same time of burning out in a demanding business that was taking it’s toll, her husband being given a Parkinson’s diagnosis, her kids leaving home and remembers it feeling way too bloody hard.

In this episode, we dive into:

- Claire’s denial and soul-searching after her husband’s diagnosis, and an honest share about the impact her caring role has taken on on her energy and relationship

- Her journey from selling her graphic design business, downsizing her home, pivoting to yoga and well-being coaching and completely overhauling her lifestyle as a result … including how she gave up smoking after “smoking her way around Italy for her 50th birthday!”

- How she has since learnt to listen to her body’s needs, to rest and restore when she is depleted and how the 50 year old version of herself - burnout, losing weight, not sleeping and so unhappy - would not even believe this life + business was possible

- How becoming embodied and the transition to post menopause has opened up more wisdom and a lot more trust for Claire - good news for all of us in the messy middle that is for sure!

27 Feb 2023Cut the Crap + Keep Everything Else with Kate Codrington01:21:43

Kate is the author of Second Spring: the self-care guide to menopause. Published by Harper Collins, it’s the first book to give a psychological map for menopause, one of the top ten self-help books of 2022 according to The Independent. Kate mentors people in perimenopause and beyond, 1-2-1 online, runs groups, nature-based Yoga Nidra sessions, hosts Life - An Inside Job podcast, and creates multi-level art textile projects. When she’s not doing these things you’ll find her playing in her compost heaps.

I read Kate’s book over the Christmas holidays and it was a big part of me feeling a shift in my feelings towards perimenopause. Although I had done a lot of research, and interviewing and investigating in my head, if I am honest my heart still felt like it perimenopause was something to be endured, rather than something to be embraced.

I am so honoured to include Kate’s deep wisdom in the pod, it was such a fun, illuminating and deeply pleasurable experience!

We chat about:

- The seasonal approach to our cycles and how we move through very natural phases of Spring and Summer (and more outward focussed attention) to Autumn and Winter (more inwards focussed attention) and how this helps us to understand the unfolding of our journey through Menopause

- The psychological phases of menopause - Separation (Autumn), Surrender and Emergence (both Winter) and Second Spring - and gentle, practical (omg actually doable!) self care suggestions for our own care and support

- Kate’s shift from fashion in her 20s to holistic massage and how her work has evolved to include psychotherapy, pregnancy and abdominal massage, menstrual medicine, menopause doula support and yoga nidra

- How healing our old wounds is a natural part of the Separation Phase and how this can play out for people with significant big T trauma including PTSD and CPTSD

- An overall philosophy on how to soften into Menopause, summarised by Kate’s straight talking advice “Cut the Crap, Keep the Good Stuff, that goes for food, relationships, obligations, all of it”

13 Mar 2023Masculine & Feminine Healing with Betsy Rippentrop and Kate Moreland01:15:34

Kate and Betsy are the co-hosts of the TendHER Wild podcast show, and I discovered them late last year when I was googling around and have loved the back catalogue of episodes since.

Kate, a recovering lawyer and CEO, now Coach, and Betsy, a licensed psychologist and certified yoga and meditation teacher are a dynamic duo, and interviewing them was just as fun and heart-expanding as I knew it would be.

In this episode, we chat about:

- How Kate and Betsy became friends and the realisation that Betsy was healing her masculine and Kate was healing her feminine, and the beauty and power of these two differing perspectives in the work they do in the world.

- Patterns of being the good girl, people pleaser and perfectionist and how they prevent people knowing the real us, and forming strong vulnerable relationships.

- That setting and honouring boundaries is a deep form of healing for the little girls inside of us, who learnt to be certain ways to be safe, including a share from each of us about returning to the energy of the little girl in pics we have us when we were young

- The buddhist philosophy of “not too loose, not too tight”, how different people respond to trauma, and how this impacts our lives later on in terms of either being too boundaries or not boundaries at all

- Kate’s background in the very masculine world of law and how very early on she learnt to ignore her inner compass when it was trying to tell her law was not for her and teaching was what called her, and how she has come all the way full circle to becoming a teacher through coaching and their podcast

- Betsy’s early years living from the head up whilst gaining her PhD in Psychology and how yoga became the vehicle for her to be embodied and reconnect with her body

- Healing the toxic masculine and wounded feminine and how becoming aware of these patterns in ourselves in turn gives us the chance to choose a different way of being

16 Mar 2023The Gathering: Menopause + Making Love with Janet McGeever01:24:29

Janet McGeever is an educator and psychotherapist of 20-plus years, specialising in Sex, Love and Intimacy. She helps women and couples explore a deepened experience of intimacy through Retreats, One-on-one Private Mentoring, online courses and books. Janet just loves the creative space of intimate sharing, opening hearts, and vulnerability and believes strengthening our presence as women and men in both life and relationships unveils our truest hearts and selves.

I’ve known Janet for a long, long time, and it’s been a joy to witness her dive into her Life’s Calling in sex, love and intimacy after finding herself feeling broken in midlife. This is a deep, divine story of turning inwards and rediscovering her inner compass, her own direction, and bringing to life work in the world which is profoundly impactful for the couples and women who have the honour of working with her.

We dive into:

- Janet’s experience of the perimenopause symptoms of flagging libido, the growing anger and resentment towards her partner from “doing it anyway”, which left her feeling broken, bereft and deficient

- The perfection of coming across Diana Richardson’s book The Heart of Tantric Sex and how Janet experienced (with her then partner) Diana’s work in Switzerland, and how she came to be the only Australian facilitator of the Making Love Retreats as a result

- Joining with Diana - who she recognised as a sister from the very first time they met - to write their book Tantric Sex and Menopause. Practices for Spiritual and Sexual Renewal

- How women have been disempowered, the imbalance of power in our traditional concept of goal oriented, "thrust away to orgasm" sex, and the shift in power through the Making Love Retreat work - and a riff on how the current “f the patriarchy” pendulum is not helping us to heal

- How the Making Love Retreats Diana holds are not naked swingers parties or performance appraisals (!!) and how the combination of education and experiential learning opens the way for softening between couples

I have been looking forward to this chat for such a long time - Ann Marie writes and interviews with such detailed understanding of the menopause and such a balanced viewpoint - no sensationalism journalism or taking out of context in sight.

We speak about:

- How at 47 years of age, Ann Marie became aware that the weird cluster of symptoms she had been experiencing (panic attacks, waking from nightmares, heart palpitations, waves of crying and anxiety) since about 42 was all part of her own menopause experience

- Ann Marie’s history of making her painful experience into what she calls “enterpainment” and how the sense of shame around and diminishing of these experiences for years has culminated in a lot of these early traumatic events and situations bubbling to the surface during perimenopause

- How Ann Marie feels like she may well be in the final stretch of Menopause and has the sense that whilst her emotional peaks are intensifying, the physical stuff seems to be calming down a little

- A deep dive into perimenopausal “scratchiness”, and our sense of going into a cave during this transition time, and how we both feel it is a powerful portal of rebirthing ourselves which is both necessary and beautiful (whilst also messy and discombobulating!)

- Ann Marie’s kitchen clean out analogy of menopause - and how right now I have all the sizzle out of every cupboard and every drawer in my metaphorical kitchen but no energy to even work out what to keep, what to chuck and where the heck to file everything.

Find Ann Marie, her writing, pod and community online at Hotflash Inc.

23 Mar 2023Have you Failed Dieting or has Dieting Failed You? with Dr Jenn Huber01:05:07

Jen Huber RD ND is on a mission to help women thrive in midlife. And whether you’re looking to understand what’s happening with your hormones, or want help finding food freedom, she’s here to help you find the confidence you deserve in perimenopause and menopause.

Her passion for women’s health comes from her own experiences. As a mother, and woman in perimenopause, she understand what it’s like to be in this stage of life! We expect a lot of ourselves and a lot is expected of us. We’re hard-wired to be resilient and roll with the punches but hormonal changes mean that we’re swimming in a new “hormonal soup’ by the time we’re in our 40s (at the latest!) that can make coping with change more difficult than it’s ever been.

When I went looking for an Intuitive Eating / Health at Every Size Nutritionist I really didn’t expect to find one like Jenn who specialises specifically in this midlife transition - yes, it was like finding a unicorn and I was so excited to sit down for this chat with her:

We speak about:

- How Jenn’s early life experiences with a disorder relationship with food triggered her interest in studying dietetics and naturopathy, seeking for a way to “fix” or “control” herself

- Her initial approach as food as medicine in the first years of her professional career, her own transition through perimenopause starring in her late 30s, and how this started to inform her interest
and subsequent qualification in Intuitive Eating

- The identity of the chronic professional dieter, the danger of our identity getting wrapped up in one “diet culture cult” or another, how this causes us to lose touch with the messages of our own body in terms of satisfaction, contentment and safety

- How weight is not a proxy for health, how the number on the scale is not the worth we offer to offer the world and some key nutrition facts to be aware of during our menopause transition

- How IE offers a more flexible and forgiving relationship with food and the huge professional decision Jenn made shift Jenn made in her practise, deciding never again to prescribe weight loss

- Key barriers to overcome when someone first considering making a shift from professional dieter to feline into Intuitive Eating

03 Apr 2023Trusting Me, Trusting Life with Dr Ezzie Spencer01:13:42

Ezzie Spencer’s vision is a world in coherence. She started as a human rights lawyer, and completed her Ph.D in therapeutic jurisprudence for women subjected to abuse. Over the past decade, she has created a body of work in the trilogy of Power, Love and Peace — with a touch of magic - and yes our chat is just as delicious as all of that sounds.

We speak about:

- A huge Universal curveball at the age of 22, and the recovery process which led Ezzie to study many different forms of alternative healing including Vipassana, meditation, cosmology and Kabbalah, and how Ezzie feels tremendously grateful for this first initiation point in her life which sent her on the path to the magical life she has created today

- Ezzie’s background in law, her PhD in Therapeutic Jurisprudence (FYI, that means using the law as a vehicle for healing for those of you who like me had no idea that word means!) and the golden threads which connect her early work with the work around power and love to the deep work she does with her clients now around self love and relationships

- Her early period of burnout during her law career, and the thirst for feminine wisdom and how this, together with an early connection to the lunar cycles, led to Ezzie writing her first book, which was a runaway success

- The second initiation point in Ezzie’s life when her business took off like a fast train, the confronting reality of wanting to be of service to the thousands of people who arrived in her orbit very quickly, and how this led Ezzie to go on a journey to unlock self forgiveness, and ultimately self love, and realise the power of being a true creatrix

- Ezzie’s next level work in the Unconscious Vows, and the emotions which can indicate blocks or unconscious barriers to self power (guilt and shame) and personal power (anger and fear) and the process of resolving internal discord to come to a place of living from the Authentic Self

- Her delicious feeling of being in fulfilment and contentment, a deep knowing that she has done what she came her to do, and the grounded feeling of being able to both trust herself and trust life.

Oh my stars, this one will land in your hearts and ears and reverberate its wisdom for a very long time indeed.

Enjoy and go find Ezzie and all her magic online here.

29 Mar 2023Hypnotherapy + Hormonal Transitions with Sophie Fletcher01:01:19

Sophie Fletcher is a bestselling author and has been a hypnotherapist and coach for over 17 years. She has worked with hundreds of people and thousands have benefitted from her courses, training and books. Sophie is trained to notice shifts in language, certain phrases and body signals that indicate a block or challenge that is unconscious, then uses the magic of imagery suggestion and other forms of hypnosis to gently tackle those blocks so her clients can move forward to their goal without anything, including themselves, in the way.

This delightful human spoke to us on the eve of a big, big birthday and so generously shared her wisdom and personal experience, including:

  • The path to becoming a hypnotherapist, a passion ignited by an empowering birth experience with her second child which was a a completely different experience to her first (thanks to the power of hypnosis to better manage pain and emotional response to pain).
  • How Sophie’s work has grown to cover a number of transitions for women: labour, throughout the first year of motherhood, and our journey through menopause - and how to equip yourself with tools that help support the changes in your brain and body.
  • How our brain's operate similarly to a social media algorithm, and how to use this for positive benefit, not fulfilling negative or difficult expectations of menopause.
  • Sophie’s bestselling books, Mindful Hypnobirthing, Mindful Mamma and Mindful Menopause, and a sneaky link to the hypnotherapy tracks included in Mindful Menopause ... for free (thank you Sophie, link down below).
  • Sophie’s own raw and real feelings on the eve of turning 50 the following day, including her own self care and support team that helps her to navigate feeling all the feels.
  • An invitation from Sophie to our Australian audience to join her Hypnobirthing and Mindful Menopause training courses she will be holding in Sydney in 2024.

Sara Smeaton is a certified professional coach and facilitator who runs online groups for midlife women and works privately with clients in Canada, the US and the UK.

Oh my stars, Sara is a woman with SPARK - a deep and never-ending curiosity and a lifelong ability to sense the boundless potential of everyone around her, which makes her the perfect coach for women who find themselves discombobulated by the shifts occurring in midlife.

We speak about:

  • Sara’s natural affinity for coaching, guiding and space holding for people which was always there, the way she diminished it in early years, and the path she took to claim her space as a professional coach.
  • A beautiful moment of time Sara shares when her Mum saw her brilliant gift for writing and making sense of the world (hello golden thread of becoming the most divine space-holding coach later in life!)
  • Sara’s journey through the changes of midlife, from period of restrictive health kicks in her 30s all the way through to listening to her own heart’s desires after prioritising everyone else’s needs in her 30s and 40s.
  • Sara’s reconnection to the wisdom of her body, and the aura warning that signals a migraine coming on and what this has taught Sara about saying no when her body tells her to, and the gift this has given her in being better at holding boundaries for herself (boundaries which felt incomprehensible earlier in life).
  • How Sara works with her clients when they feel like the roadmap for life runs out, or they’ve ticked everything off the to do list and the perfect potency of asking the question “what’s in my heart that’s still left to explore” which opens up the field of midlife possibilities!
  • The delightful sense she has of midlife being a time when you are learning how to operate the beautiful, unique machine that is you.

10 Apr 2023She is Seen: Consumerism and our Sense of Self with Libby Tozer01:07:24

Libby Tozer is a photographer, writer, founder of the She Is Seen Movement. She lives, works, and surfs on Ngarrindjeri and Kaurna Country on the Fleurieu Peninsula of SA where she is also raising her daughter.

I was looking forward to this interview so much. I came across Libby through a friend of mine who took part in the She Is Seen festival last year. I met her just after she had literally walked down the street in her black knickers and bra with about 180 women. She was so lit up by the experience of body positivity and women coming together to celebrate each other in a warm and welcoming environment - so I knew this interview was going to be really, really special.

Here's what we chatted about:

- The gentle leap of faith that Libby took when she sold her house, bought a campervan and a camera and taught herself how to take photos for her book Through Her Eyes

- How this initial small group of nude photographs has grown to be the She is Seen movement: a community of women stepping into themselves and being seen in all their beautiful, imperfectly perfect glory

- How our environment and society we live in convinces us to reject ourselves and that our feelings of not being good enough are driven by the consumerism, ageism, and the beauty and diet industries

- Libby’s reflections on the She is Seen festival experience, how she finds the collective energy difficult to handle and how the beautiful team of volunteers has grown up around her to support her and this collective.

We also dive into activism, plastics in the ocean, environmentalism, seed saving and so much more this is a beautiful episode and I'm really, really grateful to Libby for sharing her story.

You can find Libby online through the free She is Seen group on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1345135096281104

12 Apr 2023Gently, Gently: On Sabbaticals and Slowing Down with Tracey Richards01:16:20

Tracey has been a close friend of mine for over a decade and I wanted her to share a very freaking difficult journey through Perimenopause - a lot of what she went through was harder due to not understanding what to expect and how it could show up. Her gift always has been Creative Abundance, and some of the ways this is expressed is the labels of Artist, Designer, Deep, Deep thinker, Human Design and Astrologer, Healer and Keeper of the Keys. In truth, this woman is less about labels and more about a flow of feminine fierceness and more recently feminine flow and I am super loving on all the wisdom we dived into in this chat, including:

- Tracey colliding with perimenopause at time in life where she was also juggling four kids, two businesses, debilitating fatigue which was labelled chronic fatigue and a hubby that worked away in the mining industry - it was a LOT, and as a result difficult to even know what was chronic stress, what was living on adrenaline and what was perimenopause.

- Her recent realisation that she has been living in chronic fight or flight adrenaline city since she left her first marriage which involved domestic violence, when she had four kids under nine, and how at the time this trauma was brushed under the rug by family members.

- How the pattern of brushing stuff under the rug continued, with Tracey not being fully aware of some of the traumatic and challenging stuff she had lived through until perimenopause forced all the old stuff to the surface to be dealt with.

- How Tracey gifted herself a 6-month sabbatical, which grew into a year, and how now after about 16 months she is slowly feeling her energy and creative spark return.

- The discomfort that came to the surface with the old stories of “I should be doing”, “I need to make money”, “I must create art” at the beginning of her time out which slowly over time softened into the awareness that she could go gently, gently instead.

- How Astrology and more recently Human Design have helped Tracey makes sense of herself and her design and a little segue into current astrology as a result of some weird stuff waking Kylie up in the middle of the night the night before!

If you are in the middle of the 'I just cannot deal stage' and your soul is calling for true rest and true surrender, this episode is specially for you.

19 Apr 2023Top Ten Reasons Why Women Won't Take Care of Themselves with Kylie Patchett00:47:47

What you would do if you walked into a room and a baby is shrieking with distress alone in its crib.

Your VERY NATURAL response is going to be:

- Pick the baby up and snuggle it close

- Use your voice to soothe and calm

- Cuddle / rock / sway / change movements to settle

- Respond to actual physical needs - hunger, thirst, nappy change

- If it’s in an environment which cool be uncomfy (too loud, hot, cold, exposed) move to somewhere new

- Take baby to their mum/dad/familiar caretaker

What you WOULD NOT do is:

- Ask that baby to earn your care

- Tell the baby to get over itself

- Ask the baby to look after you instead

- Get angry or upset that the baby needed care

Why then do we do this to ourselves?

We withhold love + acceptance + self care for so many reasons.

Feeling into SOOTHE self care immersion and the convos I am having with women who are on the cusp of investing in their own self care, and there are themes in the surface objections why this is not available / possible / ok to do, so I recorded a solo ep on just that.

Here’s the Top Ten reasons Why Women Won’t Take Care of themselves:

- Numbing

- Conditioning

- Identity

- Leaky Boundaries

- No reference point

- Poor self worth

- Feeling Selfish

- Have to Earn it

- No bandwidth

- Thinking feels safer

All very real, all very “sensible” objections.

But what if I told you the very way to unravel old hurts

to let go of stuff that ins’t you anymore

to ride the waves of this discombobulating peri rollercoaster with more ease

to take care of your own needs as readily as you would that baby was to

Have the courage to turn inwards.

To connect to your heart.

To gently ask your soul “how can I honour your right now?”.

And have the tools, the support, the community to be able to respond.

Gently.

Mindfully.

Respectfully?

29 May 2023Stepping Into our Power with Tory Archbold00:45:53

As CEO and Founder of Powerful Steps, host of podcast Powerful Stories and founder of brand and communications agency Torstar, it comes as no surprise that Tory Archbold has met some of the world’s most influential celebrities, entrepreneurs, and CEO’s.

But the reason for Tory’s long-lasting connections is not for the many accolades she has under her belt. It’s because of her authenticity and genuine care she shows for others. Through sharing her story of survival, of being a single mother determined to succeed, she has encouraged others along the way.

I found Tory when I was researching for a book project on Perspectives, connected online and reached out to have her on the show. I loved this chat with Tory and was so inspired by the real openess and heart-connection with which she shared her own journey to power and the big why behind the work she does in the world.

We chat about:

- A young Tory, her early big visions for life which led to a European adventure and a stellar career, and how she was always supported by her grandmother, who told her she could achieve anything she dreamt of.

- How building a super successful PR company from age 24 led Tory to downsize two decades later, and how the launch of Flower (drew Barrymore’s brand) in Australia played a role in this game-changing decision

- The three key blocks to women standing in their power: playing the victim card, a lack of self trust and fear of being judged - and how they get in the way of creating their desired life and business

- How one of Tory’s key beliefs “evolution is possible for everyone” has inspired and influenced her daughter’s own life experience

- Tory’s book just released “Self Belief is Your Superpower” and the advice from a Hollywood A-lister about releasing a book with a pink cover, which she was very happy to later disprove!

15 May 2023Deep in the Darkness: My Mental Health WHY for Season 2 with Kylie Patchett00:48:21

In our first episode of Season 2, I explain the reasons WHY behind our new look and name - and my deep personal story behind why I have decided to slightly tweak the direction the pod is headed in.

In this episode, I speak about:

- Our change of name, the why and how this will impact the reach of the podcast moving forwards, and therefore how many women’s lives will be profoundly impacted by telling these real, raw stories.

- A super personal story behind this tweak in direction and how the I found myself way down deep in the darkness of a mental health hole recently

- Powerful conversation around emotional and mental maintenance, and the one key question my psychologist asked me in our latest session, which has changed the way I will look at my mental health from now on

- How to understand when and how to get support if you find yourself in a slippery slope regarding mental health.

- I ask you “R U Ok?” And my invitation to really, truly sit with the answer and not suffer in silence if you need help too.

- How we can all step up and play an active role in checking in on the midlife women we are connected to - to make sure that they are ok too, and if not how to make a plan to get the right support in place.

I hope you understand the direction for the podcast and can learn to see the warning signs I you too are suffering, or will suffer in the future with mood or mental health issues during this midlife transition time.

With so much love,

Kylie

12 Jun 2023Freeing Our World from Patriarchy and Other Systems of Oppression with Samantha Nolan Smith01:25:59

Samantha Nolan-Smith believes we can reshape the world when more diverse voices and perspectives are shared and heard. She knows that as we break through the silencing influences that have been plaguing women for millennia (hello patriarchy), new ways of living, working, and relating to one another and to the planet, will become apparent. What she also knows is that we cannot do this individually. The collective voices of women must be expressed.  It's time for us to speak up.

Our rich conversation covers:

- Samantha’s shift from a 20 year old high functioning, type A young woman who battled on the inside with depression and anxiety, and did not feel safe in her body to the 50 year old thought leader full of quiet power and deep self trust, anchored in her own identity and intrinsic value.

- How the patriarchy (which is first evidenced almost 4500 years ago in writings from the Sumerians which speak about a woman being hit in the mouth with a brick for speaking out) influences and shapes both our boys and girls and forms a system of oppression

- Samantha’s journey through chronic fatigue and how she was forced to feel the emotions from big T and little t traumas in earlier life, her gentle path forward and the way this has informed her quiet, safe, simple environments she has created for herself - including the way in which she does business.

- The important of not only healing our individual stories around not taking up too much space but also healing the collective stories we have been conditioned to believe

- My own personal chiropractic adjustment of the soul moment when Samantha says “It is a radical act to centre yourself in your life and then take up space from there”. I don’t know about you, but that will stay with me for a very very long time indeed.

You can find Samantha and the work she does in the world online here
And listen to her podcast mini-series on Taking Up Space here
Also mentioned: Carol Gilligan book “Why Does the Patriarchy Persist?”

31 Jul 2023Aging is Living with Ashton Applewhite00:50:46

An internationally recognized expert on ageism, Ashton Applewhite is the author of This Chair Rocks: A Manifesto Against Ageism. She speaks widely at venues that have included the TED mainstage and the United Nations, and is at the forefront of the emerging movement to raise awareness of ageism and to dismantle it.

Here’s an excerpt from her website home, which hit me smack between the eyes, and was a spectacular leaping off point for our chat:

"It’s not HEALTHY to go through life dreading our futures.

It's not being women that makes life harder for women, it is sexism.
It is not loving a man that makes life harder for gay guys, it is homophobia.
It’s not the passage of time that makes getting older so much harder than it has to be, it is ageism.

DISCRIMINATION IS THE PROBLEM, NOT AGING. Makes barriers acceptable. Shame and fear creates markets, and capitalism always need new markets.

Aging is not a problem to be fixed.
It is a natural, powerful, lifelong process.

In this ep, we speak about:

- Who benefits from ageism and all other isms
- Ashton’s response to the concept of “anti-aging” in the beauty industry
- Her perfectly put response to someone asking “Is that appropriate at your age?”
- How the older the person, the less their age reveals about them — because we grow more different from one another over time.
- Challenging the status quo of aging is negative to “aging is living”

And so much more status-quo challenging gold.

10 Jul 2023Healing the High Achievers with Lori Saitz01:11:04

Lori Saitz is the founder and CEO of Zen Rabbit and host of the podcast “Fine is a 4-Letter Word.” An award-winning author, speaker, and broadcaster, Lori is on a mission to teach the world to be calm and grounded no matter what’s going on.

High achievers come to her because they have a strong drive to be productive, but at the end of the day never feel accomplished enough. As a nationally recognised gratitude and meditation expert, Lori guides those entrepreneurs and business leaders from stressed and chaotic to peaceful and focused and shows them how to live a sabbatical life. Then they then start seeing sales increase, relationships strengthen, and overall health improve.

In this episode we cover:

- Lori’s decision to take a summer sabbatical with her 19 year old cat Panther (see cover of this ep for their road trip selfie) and how this has shifted the way she lives and works, plus the concept of leading a “sabbatical life”

- The difference between wanting more ease and flow in life, and actually being open to trusting that you can have it

- Her shifts from marketing and networking to becoming a gratitude and meditation leader, and how to create a feeling of being calm and grounded, no matter what

- How high achievers are conditioned to stay in the “familiar hell” of busy-ness, and end up feeling like they’re spinning their wheels and getting nowhere, always on the edge of burnout

- How using the trilogy of gratitude, connection and courage to build self trust and shift us from working hard at the outer work to focussing on the inner work

- The difference between being busy and “in motion” to taking inspired acton based on our connection to our inner voice, and how this action builds self trust over time

26 Jun 2023Soothing our Nervous Systems with Francine Forde01:27:23

France Forde is a Craniosacral Therapist, Intuitive Channel and Facilitator who provides her services In person (London, UK) and Worldwide (via Zoom). Fran happens to also be neurodivergent and coming to us from the "other side” — yes indeed people, Fran is post menopausal!

Fran generously gifted me a craniosacral session with her prior to our interview and you can tell from my voice just how chilled my nervous system as a result. The session felt to me the perfect blend of the anatomy and straight science behind the nervous system and the intuitive woo woo side that Fran has naturally had from a young age where she speaks to your spirit guides and support team. My Dad turned up in my session saying he always has my back and Fran told me exactly where he was touching me - the same place that I have two previous experiences of the sensation of being hugged from behind by him whilst driving.

The session was delicious and all sorts of relaxing and soothing and I feel like shifted the physical remnants of some deep, deep trauma releasing work I have been working through via talk therapy and my own somatic process. I highly recommend you experience a session for yourself.

In this episode, we cover

- Fran’s turning point where her perimenopause symptoms, a break up, memory and concentration issues and hating her job all collided in a cry out for change one night whilst speaking with a friend; and how as a result Fran left her relationship, shifted homes, and changed careers

- The mental health symptoms, together with always running hot, putting on weight, not feeling in control of her physicality which all culminated with her daughter telling her “you look like you’re dying” - and how in a way, she was (in terms of old self death, new self in process)

- The mental health impacts of perimenopause we need to be speaking about: including panic attacks, depression, anxiety, loss of confidence, memory and condition issues and questioning our lives and identities.

- Our nervous system: what it is, how it becomes dysregulated and simple ways to tend to our nervous system ourselves on a day to day basis

- How trauma is stored a cellular level, so whilst we can “think” we are over something, our body may have a very different opinion

- how our systems can be so attuned to living in chaos, we do not recognise we are in a heightened state, the lasting impacts of the pandemic on our nervous systems

03 Jul 2023Grief, Glitter and Post Traumatic Growth with Bec Sparrow01:01:21

Over the past 25 years Rebecca Sparrow has earned a living as a travel writer, a television publicist, a marketing executive, a magazine editor, a TV scriptwriter, a radio producer, a newspaper columnist and as an author.

She is the author of three best-selling novels The Girl Most Likely, The Year Nick McGowan Came to Stay and Joel and Cat Set The Story Straight (co-authored with Nick Earls). Since 2009 Rebecca has focused on writing non-fiction books for teenage girls to help them navigate those tricky high school years.

In episode 25 of season 1, we met author Emma Grey and we shared a heart-cracking conversation about a deep love and the devastating loss of Em's husband Jeff.

Emma mentions a conversation with Bec, when Bec tells Emma that the loss of her stillborn daughter Georgie was going to "turn the light UP in my life, not down" and that becomes an anchor for the way Em navigates her own grief.

Following my conversation with Em, she kindly introduced me to Bec. In our rich conversation, Bec and I cover:

  • the loss of Bec's stillborn daughter Georgie, and her decision to not allow her first daughter Ava to feel like the loss of Georgie was more important than her
  • the sometimes jarring concept of post traumatic growth, and how common it is to feel that trauma delivers positive outcomes
  • how we tend to rank relationships, the power of female friendships, and how Bec's friends walked alongside her through her grief
  • The Friendship Project, cohosted by Bec and Sarah Wills and Lise Carlaw, and the themes around adult women's friendships, and a simple tip Bec shares to turn towards nurturing your friendships
  • Bec's online program The Lighthouse Plan, inspired by her work with teen and tweens girls
  • Bec's beautiful parenting tip for finding the glitter in amongst the rest of life.

24 Jul 2023Trauma, Sensitivity and the Body - Brain Connection with Paula Rastrick01:08:02

After being over medicated with HRT 2017, Somatic and Cognitive Psychotherapist Paula Rastrick joined the dots between childhood trauma, being a highly sensitive person and the mental health impacts her experience when multiple life stressors and perimenopause collided. She is on a mission to raise awareness and empower women to understand the links between childhood trauma, nervous system sensitivity and menopause transition.

This was such an enjoyable chat, and confirmed a lot of the dots I have been forming in my own personal history and perimenopause experience. We cover:

- Paula's own experience of being overmedicated for her perimenopause symptoms and the dire impact this had on her mental health

- the concepts of neurodiversity and neurotypical brains, and how the traits of ADHD, autism, and Highly Sensitive People overlap

- Long-lasting impacts that CPTSD and developmental trauma have on the nervous system, and how we need to utilise the biopsychosocial model to better understand the root cause of symptoms attributed to menopause which may have different origins

- how stress ages the brain, how we need to change our focus from stress reduction to building stress resilience, and the important of the brain body connection in building our window of tolerance

- How anxiety and the freeze states are survival mechanism and how living in a state of chaos or lack of safety in our younger years can lead to difficulties coping when life feels "too calm"

07 Aug 2023Pro-Ageing, Befriending our Bodies and Body Liberation with Deb Benfiled01:17:25

Deb Benfield has helped hundreds of women heal their relationship with food, eating, and their bodies in her 35-year career as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist specialising in preventing and treating disordered eating.

She brings her wisdom, passion, and lived experience to the intersection of pro-aging and body liberation, and her work is rooted in helping her clients shift their body relationship from their life’s project to their life’s partner.

In this deep conversation, we cover:

  • The hierarchy of bodies, and the system of oppression any “other’d” bodies live in (including anyone who is NOT slim, white, young and beautiful) and the damage this does to our relationship with our bodies as we age
  • Deb's beautiful description of what body liberation feels like to her, and the sense of freedom and expansiveness this has opened for her in midlife
  • How to befriend out bodies and truly listen to their needs, needs which naturally change during transition points in life
  • The incidence of eating disorder remission in perimenopausal women when normal and natural body changes trigger a need to try to control as a result of feeling more vulnerable and less safe
  • The sea of ageism we are living in, the internal ageism inherent in the stories we have about what growing old means and a completely different way of framing age and ageing.
  • Fascinating research on our attitude to aging and how this impacts our actual experience of ageing

14 Aug 2023The Power of Cycle Awareness for Holistic PMDD Support with Heidi Hogarth01:02:27

Motivated by her own debilitating & lonely experience with PMDD, Heidi is on a mission in her clinical practice to support other PMDD peeps to regain power over menstrual mood cycles, get off the emotional rollercoasters and balance body & mind naturally so they can feel calm, confident and empowered in themselves, in relationships, work and Life.

Having been reading about the link of ACE (Adverse childhood experiences) and increased risks of significant mental health episodes, risk of MDD (Major Depressive Disorder) and PMDD (premenstrual Dysmorphic Disorder) I knew there was going to be so many a-ha moments for me when I chatted with Heidi.

We cover a lot of ground in this episode, including:

  • Heidi’s own journey through feeling ashamed by her “just PMS” all the way to her PMDD diagnosis and how other women have described this as one week of hell and three weeks of cleaning up the mess
  • How stress plays a role in all mental health disorders, and how to manage and where possible remove stressors from your life
  • Cycle awareness, and how understanding the “seasons” of each part of our cycle, and the strengths of each season, even the inner critic filled time of autumn just before our bleed
  • The parallels between the autumn inner season just before our bleed time and the autumn inner season of perimenopause, and how a feeling of needing to “clean house” is totally normal
  • How Heidi works with her clients both 1:1 and in groups to help them better understand and regulate their own cycle and use self care to ease their way through PMDD
  • How food and mood are linked, and the part environmental toxins play in influencing our hormonal state

28 Aug 2023Taking Care of Me: Midlife Self Care and Advocacy with Nikki Parkinson01:03:45

Nikki Parkinson, 56, is a former journalist-turned blogger, author and now fashion designer. At the core of all that she does is her love of helping and supporting women to find greater confidence through their everyday style and the life they lead.

In 2019, Nikki launched her own fashion label, Styling You TheLabel, offering Australian-made, non-boring wardrobe basics that take the stress out of the what-to-wear question. She has long advocated for a disruption in the way that fashion is marketed to women. Styling You The Label is the first label globally to invest in showcasing its designs on every size that it sells–size6-20. Not only does that increase customer confidence but it flips the idea that fashion should only be seen on one size, height, age, colour, belief or ability.

In this enlightening episode, we explore the intricate relationship between perimenopause and mental health. Nikki opens up about her tumultuous journey through perimenopause, likening it to the intense transition period of childbirth. She emphasises the importance of education and research in helping women understand these changes and ask the right questions, and shares her experiences with hormone treatments and the significant role they play in managing perimenopause symptoms.

We further venture into the significance of advocating for women's health and the future. As women, we often sideline our own needs, which can be detrimental to our health and well-being. We discuss the importance of breaking this cycle, for our own benefit and that of future generations. Nikki shares her thoughts on how we can approach the topic of menopause with our daughters and help normalise these conversations.

The conversation then shifts to Nikki's experiences running a business and the challenges she faced, particularly with the changing economic landscape. She offers valuable insights into maintaining mental health while adapting to these changes. Nikki also shares her unique perspective on the relationship between women's bodies and fashion, and her commitment to inclusivity through her fashion label.

Wrapping up the discussion, we talk about the power of sharing experiences and the importance of having a support network, especially during challenging times such as menopause. Listen in as we explore these issues and more.

18 Sep 2023Unbroken: The Trauma Response is Never Wrong with MC McDonald01:14:02

I reached out to MC McDonald after reading her book Unbroken: The Trauma Response is Never Wrong (And Other Things you Need to Know to Take Back Your Life) which I found pivotal in unravelling my own trauma response over these past few months.

MaryCatherine McDonald, PhD, is a research professor and life coach who specializes in the psychology and philosophy of trauma. She has been researching, lecturing, and publishing on the neuroscience, psychology, and lived experience of trauma since completing her PhD in 2016. She’s published two academic books and many research papers, and is the creator of a trauma-based curriculum that serves previously incarcerated folks and veterans.

In this chat, we cover, what does it really mean to experience trauma, and how does it affect our body, brain, and identity?

 - MC's (re)definition of trauma as an 'unbearable emotional experience that lacks a relational home', challenging the current definition that often overlooks layers of lived experience.

 - Our journey through the intricate neurobiology of trauma reveals its profound effects on us - from disrupting memory to altering our reactions.

 - recognizing our body's warning signals and the importance of having diverse tools to manage trauma responses.

 - simple tools like diaphragmatic breathing which can help regulate our nervous system during a trigger, and

 - how narrative reframing can powerfully aid our healing journey.

- the deep-seated issue of shame, often linked with trauma, and debunk the misconception that feeling ashamed is necessary for progress.

And finally, we explore how critical life transitions can bring opportunities for healing and stress the importance of trusting ourselves during these challenging times.

Join us in this episode as we learn to find our voice, reframe our stories, and navigate the path towards healing from trauma.

25 Sep 2023Metabolism | Energy | Sleep: The Midlife Trifecta with Lisa Walker00:58:50

S12E20 Metabolism, Sleep & Energy: The Midlife Trifecta with Lisa Walker

Lisa is Eir’s co-founder and resident left-brain thinker/big-picture planner. She crossed paths with Eir co-founder Kate working in marketing, and water-cooler chat became a friendship, glued together by their ability to find hilarity in (almost) every situation that comes with feeling constantly foggy/fatigued/frazzled and managing the mental load. The idea for Eir simmered in the background, but eventually the two decided to create a solution for the issues they—and all their friends—were silently battling with.

The knowledge she’s creating something transformative for women is what’s propelled Lisa through about 105875 false starts/mistakes/steep learning curves. Her passion lies in helping women feel normal again (because it’s possible!), and to add a feeling of lightness into every life stage (peri-menopause and menopause included).

I loved this chat with Lisa, such a beautiful conversation about life, grief, growth, values and good-ole-fashioned living your life purpose!  We chatted about:

- the unexpected 2022 loss of Lisa's husband, and how Lisa made significant life changes as a result (despite the external "this is how you SHOULD grieve" messages she received)

- How the idea of Eir Women, a supplement brand Lisa co-founded with friend and ex-colleague Kate, evolved over time through COVID lockdown and how this has been the most brilliant thread for Lisa to anchor to while going through one of life's greatest challenges

- The journey from idea to research to market research to formulation which led Eir to be anchored by pillars of metabolism, energy and sleep, rather than the menopausal most-wanted list of hot flushes and night sweats usually bandied about as the most trying pain points of menopause

- Plans for the future including women's sexual health support, and how the breaking down of sexual health taboos has opened the door to real conversations about midlife sexual function

- Why Lisa and Kate have decided to allow Eir time to unfold and grow organically and just how important it is to them that women have a positive frame of this midlife transition, rather than be smacked in the face by fear-mongering menopause marketing

A gorgeous, heart-felt exchange, and what an honour to be able to share Lisa's story.

You can find Lisa and Eir Women online at www.eirwomen.com.au

09 Oct 2023The Medicine of Me with Kerri Hummingbird01:12:46

E2S22 The Medicine of Me with Kerri Hummingbird

Kerri Hummingbird, Medicine Woman, Mother and Mentor, is the Founder of Inner Medicine Training, a Mystery School that shares potent ancient traditions from the Andes and Himalayas for owning your wisdom and living your purpose.  She is the #1 international best-selling author of "Inner Medicine: Becoming One with Mother Earth for the Survival of Humanity" (int'l bestseller for 23 weeks), "The Second Wave: Transcending the Human Drama" (int'l bestseller over 217 weeks), and "Love Is Fierce: Healing the Mother Wound" which describes the most direct path to self-realization. As the host of Soul Nectar Show, Ms Hummingbird inspires people to lead their lives wide awake with an authenticity, passion and purpose that positively impacts others. As a healer and mentor, she catalyzes mind-shifts that transform life challenges into gifts of wisdom.

Kerri and I were introduced by another guest and I knew I would enjoy connecting with her from the very first vibe on Zoom. This woman carries so much wisdom and a wealth of life experience through healing her mother wound, repatterning her family agreements, burning down her life and rebuilding, stepping out of an ill-fitting first marriage and doing the damn work to step into her life's role as Medicine Woman.

We chat about:
- how women are the centre and "sensor" of our families and communities and the difference between empowered women at the centre, and disempowered women running old patterns of passive-aggression, pedestal-dwelling or dumbing themselves down to fit into society or familial expectations
- the grandmother web and how once lost women's wisdom is currently reknitting an energetic web around the world and how this is coming back to a place of unity between the me-my-mind and the heart's knowing
- how all of us have our own medicine and you can't save anyone from their life' curriculum
- Kerri's journey from a mental health diagnosis and deep post-natal depression led her to the dark night of the soul, and the powerful decision she made to "die to herself" and shed the skins of the life she had created and burn down both her life and identity
- how Kerri found shamanism and came to study under and work in partnership with a Peruvian family, and her Inner Medicine training program to help people reconnect to their Truth and rewire their foundation for life

16 Oct 2023Separation, Satisfaction and Redefining Health with Kylie Patchett00:37:00

After recording episode 1 of this season of the podcast about my Mental Health challenges, I thought it was high time and came and gave you an update after almost 6 months.

In this chat I speak about:
- the decision to use medication to help with mood and mental health challenges back in April, and how this has opened up space in my life for true honest introspection
- being in the Separation psychological phase of Perimenopause and the pruning of relationships, habits and patterns that have happened in this autumnal phase
- chronic pain and the mismatch between my expectation of ageing with vitality and energy, versus the reality I have been living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome
- what's next for me and the decision to redefine health and the shift from getting healthy meaning manipulating my body to be a smaller size to making with my highest values of freedom, vitality and making memories with my family as my filtres

I hope sharing these honest truths will help to open up the field of possibilities for perimenopause being a powerful portal for taking stock and redefining the way we treat ourselves and our health and precious resources moving forward.

23 Oct 2023Relational Rupture and Repair with Thea Baker01:18:11

Relational Rupture and Repair with Thea Baker

Thea is a counsellor and body-based (somatic) psychotherapist with special interests in all aspects women’s health, trauma (PTSD, C-PTSD) and couples/relationship therapy. She works collaboratively with her clients to find a place of healing and recovery.; and she's in it for the long-haul and doesn’t give up easily. Thea is not the kind of therapist that is ok with “feeling better” if better is still a long way off being truly well.

Wellbeing is about much more than the absence of disease or illness. It’s a multidimensional mix of getting your physical, mental, emotional and social health in balance. Thea is a noisy advocate about mental health being a part of whole-person health – she believes that we have somehow got into a place where we see physical health in terms of strength and fitness whilst mental health is viewed through a lens of stigma, dysfunction and illness.

Thea and I chat about so many aspects of women's health and the transition points of a woman's life, including:

- the compounding effect of what we bring to motherhood, including the way we were attached as children and the relational trauma we have experienced

- how motherhood and the experience of trying to provide something we did not receive can trigger the wounded parts of us

- Internal Family Systems, the functions of our manager and firefighter parts and how it feels to live from our Authentic Self

- how attachment will always trump authenticity, and a tiny snapshot of how understanding this unravelled some deep anger towards self for Kylie

- the concept from Gabor Mates' body of work "not why the addiction, but why the pain"

- creating safe relational spaces, which include both the inevitable rupture and repair of relationships

- the function of oestrogen in caretaking and how and why we shed female friendships in midlife.

You can find Thea and her Thea Baker Wellbeing practise here.

30 Oct 2023Revealing the Richness of the Rose with Dee Light01:17:48

Revealing the Richness of the Rose with Dee Light

Dee Light has the gifted knack of seeing the biggest picture, and distilling it into sizable, easy-to-digest steps. Her capacity to take a dilemma and uncover the way out, is an everyday challenge she sees as part of her role in these dynamic times. For Dee, there is always a solution. A path forward. Dee has studied and applied many modalities over the last forty years and has distilled them down to the basic steps that get results. So, you can respond to life, not react; engage with life and not shrink back.

An author, a speaker, a spouse, a CEO, a mother, an insightful listener; everything she says, she uncovers, comes from deeply lived experience. She’s the living, breathing example of walking your talk. She walks with you, not to ‘fix’ you, but to help you find and open your own door, to your new life.

Connected via a mutual friend and podcast guest, this chat is as ripe and rich as Dee herself. We cover so much in this fireside ep, including:

 - Life transitions of feeling like you are being threaded through the eye of a needle, in an invitation to let go of all that is not authentic

- the powerful purging, cleansing, clearing that Dee went through as a result of tapping into her unfelt anger and the alchemy this provided and

- defragmenting lower energies so we are free to come into the resonance of the very heart of us

Dee's car rally analogy for the adventure of life and using your "cat's whiskers" aka felt sense to guide you

- how as we go through our own journey, we do not heal ourselves, we reveal our true Self

- how Kylie does not have a reference point of a well-resourced woman and how Dee is an expander for the younger women coming through

06 Nov 2023Happy Vulva, Happy Life with Sandy Davies01:06:57

Sandy Davies is the Queensland-based formulator and founder of HappyPause™ Balm. She’s a bit of a rebel who struggles taking ‘No’ for an answer, which is how she came to turn the lack of a simple, preservative-free natural solution for intimate dryness into her mission. The creation of HappyPause™ is Sandy’s ‘Yes.’ Don’t suffer in silence. A tiny pearl of HappyPause™ and you’ll have a spring back in your step.
Dryness caused by perimenopause, chemotherapy, endometriosis, Type 1 Diabetes, harsh working conditions, endurance training, postmenopause or other issues should never be a death knell to doing the active things we love, which is why Sandy can’t wait to share the joy of creating HappyPause™ with you.

I reached out to Sandy after using HappyPause when I joined the ranks of perimenopausal women suffering from vaginal and vulval dryness. Here I was thinking I had blessedly escaped this peri symptom and BANG one heavy period and hey presto! dry vagina! My doctor initially prescribed a pessary of vaginal estrogen but I didn't get much relief and I already knew that Sandy created an all-natural product that works so well after hearing her interview on another pod.

We chat about:

  • Sandy's perimenopause experience and how her doctor brushed it off as "just perimenopause" (two words that you and I both know should never be used together in a sentence!)
  • How women are still hiding away menopause, and the behaviour Sandy just observed when going to see Menopause the Musical
  • Perimenopause itchiness and irritation of all types, and the huge impact a little self-nurturing can have on our tolerance levels
  • Vuvla and vaginal dryness, the stigma still attached and how these symptoms impact EVERY area of a woman's life, not just the bedroom
  • Sandy's personal philosophy around just LEAP, and a beautiful example of how important it is to take life by the horns and just do it
  • Menopausal meltdown and the gift Sandy's husband gave her in a shopping centre car park.

Sandy will be back on the show in Season 3 - because we didn't get to chat about her celebrating 50 with 50 bottles of champagne or her great naked coffee challenge in this ep!

Go find Sandy and her radiant positivity and HappyPause at www.happypause.com.au and please if intimate dryness is an issue for you, give HappyPause a go - it is a simple, natural solution that has worked wonders for me.

13 Nov 2023Gut Health, Stress and Self Care Fundamentals with Aline McCarhthy01:10:55

Aline McCarthy is a leading expert in Cellular to Holistic Health guiding midlife women to thrive. As a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, Cellular Health and Nutrition Coach she guides women in midlife in transforming their health from the inside out so they can finally feel back in control, comfortable and confident in everyday life.

Aline overcame her own chronic back pain, gut health, anxiety and inflammation issues by addressing the underlying causes and making appropriate lifestyle changes. When the mainstream medical system did not provide any satisfactory answers for her, Aline decided to learn from the best and radically change the way she was doing things, and now she helps other women do the same.

Aline and I chat about:

  • her own journey through chronic pain after the birth of her second child and the decision to find a different way after being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and offered multiple pain medications
  • how Aline believes her pregnancy was just the tipping point, and her gut and other health imbalances had been accumulating since her 20s
  • our gut as our second brain, how the brain and “second brain” are connected, and how important it is to make space for the rest and digest system to switch on when we eat
  • “metabolic chaos”, and her pebbles rippling in a pond analogy for the collision point of the multiple factors (environmental, toxic, insufficient nutrition, chronic stress, frequent antibiotics, painkillers, dehydration and poor sleep to name a few) which can be underlying this chaos
  • How midlife can be a window of opportunity to ramp up the foundational self-care practises we all know about it, but may fail to prioritise, and how important this time of life is for creating optimal health into the menopausal third of our lives

20 Nov 2023The Unsexy Truth about Self Care with Laura Feeney01:07:33

Laura Feeney is a yoga teacher and movement educator who is passionate about helping pre-to postmenopausal women navigate life with ease. Through yoga and mindful movement, she supports women to build strength, maintain and improve mobility, sleep better, and manage stress through her classes, workshops and retreats helping women connect to their bodies with positivity and love.

Laura is originally from the US and I’m also a mom of four grown kids, a business owner, a bookworm, and a jewellery maker. She’s been teaching yoga and movement in rural Ireland since 2004 and opened a movement studio in 2007. But mostly Laura describes herself as a student - of the body, of movement, the brain, the nervous system, the ageing process - you name it, she’s a nerd about it!

One of Laura’s movement shares on socials caught my eye a few months back, and since then she has been a regular contributor to my Instagram “body love” save folder. I love the way she breaks down simple self-care into doable practices for all of us peri people!

We speak about:

  • Laura’s revelations about never feeling “finished” or “done” in life, and how this constant reinvention and evolution excites her
  • Our internal belief systems are how they can be a force for good (or not so good) and colour our experience of ageing
  • How her own journey through perimenopause invited some changes to her own movement practice and the way she teaches other women in peri and post-menopausal years.
  • Laura’s peri cognitive challenges, a dementia diagnosis close to home and how this has made Laura double down on her study and  focus to neuroprotective factors as she ages and
  • the totally unsexy, totally not magic-pill-quick-fix solution truth about self-care in midlife and beyond and just how important being or becoming truly connected to our own needs and desires is as we cross the threshold into our post-menopausal years.

27 Nov 2023How not to have a Flatline Life with Sheree Clark00:58:30

Sheree Clark is a Midlife Courage Coach, television show host, inspiring speaker and accomplished author. Sheree has written and presented on topics ranging from finding your passion to overcoming career burnout. Her Fork in the Road coaching practice keeps her busy working with clients one-on-one and in groups on creating an authentically fulfilling life. In her personal time, Sheree and her cat Lotus work on their yoga poses.

This episode with Sheree Clark is such a gold mine of wisdom, including:

  • Sheree's journey from a 25-year stellar run in the world of advertising and triple martini lunches to her deeply satisfying career as a Midlife courage coach
  • How different careers fit us in different life stages and how Sheree’s reflection on what her now 67-year-old self would say to her 53-year-old self who was contemplating putting a pin in her successful advertising agency
  • Sunk opportunity cost and how investing a lot of time and energy into a career or a marriage can make creating change or contemplating leaving feel too hard or too heavy
  • The concept of self-identity and how we can unconsciously reinforce something we are ready to let go of or evolve through
  • A simple exercise from Sheree to check in with messages in your environment and spot anything out of alignment
  • The two types of courage:  reactive courage when you're responding to something that's happened versus proactive courage where the impetus for change and self-trust must be  powered from within
  • And the perfection of Sheree’s concept of not living a flatline life, and we can avoid settling rather than mining for joy or deep satisfaction

04 Dec 2023Awakening is not a Static Place with Sherold Barr01:04:58

Sherold is a certified master life + business coach + mindset mentor devoted to helping women become more confident, resilient and happy. Sherold and I last spoke for an interview on my old poddy in 2015!!  Two years later at age 65, she was in a near-fatal car wreck, needed 6 abdominal surgeries in 15 days and had to learn to walk again. For some, that would be a slippery slope into thoughts of “why me” or “I’ll never walk again” but Sherold had an experience that led her to clearly and consciously choose love and gratitude to heal.

We speak about:

  • Sherold’s near-death experience where a voice asked her “You get to choose how you go through this experience, what will you choose?”
  • The experience of being free from the mind and ego, and how this allowed Sherold to be an objective observer of her hospital stay
  • How differently Sherold and her husband experienced her recovery, and our resulting deep dive into suffering
  • What Sherold now knows to be true about money and all sorts of other illusions in our outer worlds
  • How nature is Sherold’s cathedral and how she used visualisation to go from being unable to walk to hiking 7 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail just a few months later
  • A moment of remembering how Sherold so loved her new post-accident scars, the truth about our bodies’ innocence and how it’s just our ego stories that create the suffering about our bodies.
  • How Sherold found awakening to deep truths about life and death is not a static space, and how the voices of ego and fear re-emerged in time, but each time this happens her recovery and awareness takes less and less time to come back to her.

You can find the beautiful, wise and wonderful Sherold online here and keep your eyes peeled for the release of Sherold’s memoir in 2024.

And listen in to this ep and more at https://www.kpkreative.com.au/pod

What a perfect way to wrap up Season 2 of the podcast, a deep warm and rich conversation about Life, the Universe and Everything. Thank you so much for listening in this season, and I look forward to being back in your ears and hearts in 2024.

18 Dec 2023Summer Series: Finding Light in the Darkness with Emma Grey01:04:36

Emma Grey is a novelist, feature writer, photographer, professional speaker and accountability coach.

25 Dec 2023Summer Series: Cut the Crap + Keep Everything Else with Kate Codrington01:22:40

- The false concept we have of needing to be improved (Kate says we’re not fixer-uppers!) and how turning our attention inwards to get quiet enough to listen to our intuition and really hear what our bodies need opens a whole new level of understanding and self compassion.

- The seasonal approach to our cycles and how we move through very natural phases of Spring and Summer (and more outward focussed attention) to Autumn and Winter (more inwards focussed attention) and how this helps us to understand the unfolding of our journey through the Winter of Menopause and emergence into our Second Spring

Kate’s mission is to change the way we regard menopause and show us how we can relax into our own, inner authority through our cyclical nature and menopause process.

I know the wisdom she shared in this episode will do exactly that.

01 Jan 2024Summer Series: The Gathering: Menopause + Making Love with Janet McGeever01:25:28

- A deeply touching story of how nature and her cycles provided a turning point in Janet’s journey, the moment she realised she was killing her femininity and the changes she made as a result

- How women have been disempowered, the imbalance of power in our traditional concept of goal oriented, "thrust away to orgasm" sex, and the shift in power to be back inside of each partner through Diana’s work - and a riff on how the current “f the patriarchy” pendulum is not helping us to heal

- How the Making Love Retreats Diana holds are not naked swingers parties or performance appraisals (!!) and how the combination of education and experiential learning opens the way for softening and receptivity between couples

- Janet’s deep love of brining women in circle together and how her WomanKind retreats are a deeply healing experience for women in midlife.

08 Jan 2024Summer Series: Trusting Me, Trusting Life with Dr Ezzie Spencer01:13:42

- Ezzie’s next level work in the Unconscious Vows, and the emotions which can indicate blocks or unconscious barriers to self power (guilt and shame) and personal power (anger and frustration) and the process of resolving internal discord to come to a place of living from the Authentic Self

15 Jan 2024Summer Series: Freeing Our World from Patriarchy and Other Systems of Oppression with Samantha Nolan Smith01:28:06

The the collective voices of women must be expressed. Social, economic and political change is needed to address the challenges of the 21st century. Women's voices are critical to ensuring those changes are equitable, innovative, and sustainable. It's time for us to speak up.

This podcast episode with Samantha, CEO of the School of Visibility was so thoughtful and thought-provoking, it will be reverberating through my mind and soul for years to come.

- How the patriarchy (which is first evidenced more than 4500 years ago in writings from the Sumerians which speak about a woman being hit in the mouth with a brick for speaking out) influences and shapes both our boys and girls and forms a system of oppression that most of us so familiar with, we cannot see the ocean of conditioning we are living in

- Samantha’s journey through chronic fatigue and how she was forced to feel the emotions from big T and little t traumas in earlier life, her gentle path forward and the way this has informed her quiet, safe, simple environments she has created for herself - including the way in which she does business.

- The important of not only healing our individual stories around not taking up too much space (being too loud, too enthusiastic, too big, too [fill in the blank here]) but also healing the collective stories we have been conditioned to believe - and our favourite starting point which would be blowing up the good girl BS on all levels - the good mum, the good wife/partner, the good worker, the good friend, the good daughter, the good caregiver, ect etc etc!

- My own personal chiropractic adjustment of the soul moment when Samantha says “It is a radical act to centre yourself in your life and then take up space from there”. I don’t know about you, but that will stay with me for a very very long time indeed.

You can find Samantha and the work she does in the world online here

Also mentioned: Carol Gilligan book “Why Does the Patriarchy Persist?”

22 Jan 2024Summer Series: Pro-Ageing, Befriending our Bodies and Body Liberation with Deb Benfield01:19:33

Deb Benfield has helped hundreds of women heal their relationship with food, eating, and their bodies in her 35-year career as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist specialising in preventing and treating disordered eating.

She bring her wisdom, passion, and lived experience to the intersection of pro-aging and body liberation, and her work is rooted in helping her clients shift their body relationship from their life’s project to their life’s partner, recognise internalised ageism and end it, and untangle from the diet/wellness culture mess.

Deb sees Midlife as a time of Emergence, so I knew she was my kind of people before we met for this interview. In this deep conversation, we cover:

  • The hierarchy of bodies, and the system of oppression any “other’d” bodies live in (including anyone who is NOT slim, white, young and beautiful) and the damage this does to our relationship with our bodies as we age
  • Deb’d beautiful description of what body liberation feels like to her, and the sense of freedom and expansiveness this has opened for her in midlife

11 Dec 2023Summer Series: Challenging the "You Must Love Your Mother" Myth with Geraldine Crane01:23:42

Phew, if you have a weird, wonky or anything less than warm + wonderful relationship with your Mum, there'd be some GOLD in this one for you no doubt about it.

You can find Geraldine online here and her Facebook community here
