If you've been around the hobby of whiskey drinking long enough, then you know that the most common cross over hobby is cigars. The two types of tastings are often grouped together, and in this episode my guest, Bryce and I discuss the similarities and differences between them.

Happy Halloween! For this special Halloween episode of Whiskey Noobs, my guest, Justin, and I drink the scariest "whisky" known to man: Fireball. We compare it to Jim Beam's Kentucky Fire, and we talk about our favorite fall-time whiskeys

If you've heard of the "neck pour", or the first glass out of a new bottle of whiskey which is supposed to taste bad, then you've probably wondered if it is real or not. How do you start a whiskey collection in the most effective, financially responsible way possible? In this episode, I give my best tips for starting a whiskey collection without breaking the bank.

Is whiskey truly meant to be drank with ice? In this episode, Bryce and I try to answer that question. We sit down and do a full review of Pendleton Whisky both neat and on ice to compare the two experiences. 

In this review episode, I show my guest, Bryce, one of my favorite tricks for learning how to taste whiskey. We take two different whiskeys and compare them, to see just how large of a range of flavors whiskey can have. Finally, we review both the Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey and the Russell's Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This episode is great for beginners and experienced drinkers alike. Even multiple years into the hobby, I still use this tip often.

Lagavulin 16yr is the most expensive Islay Scotch that we have had on the show so far, but does it live up to the price tag?! Woodford Reserve double oaked is a bourbon that is taken out of it's barrel and placed into another brand new, charred oak barrel. In other words, it is "finished" in a second barrel. Does that make it a finished bourbon, or just a bourbon? I don't know, but it definitely makes it worth reviewing. 

Ardbeg 10 year is one of the most popular Islay scotches that I've come across. Many people have either emailed or commented on my social media to ask me to try it, so we finally are! If you want an in depth review of this peaty Islay scotch, look no further. I also compare it to Laphroaig 10 year in order to draw some conclusions about the differences between the two.

Have you ever wondered if Glencairns or other tulip shaped glasses truly help with the nose of a whiskey? The world of Scotch Whisky is rich with different intricacies and flavor profiles, and one such characteristic that is often discussed is the "region" in which a Scotch is produced. For those who are newer to the show, I once again discuss my favorite tips and tricks for how to begin drinking whiskey and tasting flavor notes, as well as why we drink whiskey.

When we review a whiskey (or really any item), there are two ways to look at it: objectively and subjectively. In this episode, I explain the differences between these types of reviews, and I discuss how to to recognize if a whiskey review is objective or subjective.

In this episode, we talk about Canadian and Japanese whisky. This topic rounds off the types of whiskey that we have been going over the past few months. We go into detail about a few of the things that make Canadian and Japanese whiskies unique, and end the episode by discussing the malting process as well as a few notes on the types of whiskey.

I used up a whole bottle of Blanton's bourbon doing blind tastings with other whiskeys in order to find some that were better, and I certainly found them. I also learned a lot about the flavor profile of Blanton's, and began to understand why some people love it and others hate it. It is a hot debate online, so I break down my perspective on the reason for the huge divide and discuss the bottles that I found to be as good or better than Blanton's!

Our repeat-Guest-Noob Zack is back, and he is helping us learn a thing or two about bourbon! People always ask me about what gives different bourbons different flavors, and I almost always make sure that the mash bill is part of my answer. Specifically, how much wheat and/or rye is in it. In order to really nail down the difference between wheat and rye in a bourbon's mash bill, Zack and I walk through a blind tasting of Green River Bourbon vs Green River Wheated bourbon, which have identical mash bills except for one difference: the wheated replaces rye with wheat.

I don't know if any Irish whiskey has been recommended to me quite as much as this one. Green Spot is a Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey aged in bourbon and sherry casks. Guest Noobs Zack and Bryce go through a very in depth review of this spirit with me, and we finally put to bed the question we've been asking for a few episodes now: Do you need to use a glencairn for whiskey?

Or, in order to provide a proper review, must you swallow the whiskey?
