24 Jun 2020Episode 180: WCW Great American Bash 200003:08:53
It's WCW at its very worst! Welcome to the Great American Bash 2000. It was the final GAB from WCW and it was the night Goldberg turned heel and business REALLY went down the toilet. Even though there were other such big names as Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, Scott Steiner, Rick Steiner, DDP and Sting, there was no stopping the WCW-to-Out of Business train. 08 Jul 2020WHW Episode 182: WWE Raw 07-06-199802:11:56
The same night WCW had Goldberg vs Hollywood Hogan for the World title on Nitro, the WWE countered with a taped show from State College, PA. It wasn't the best show, but the story lines were good enough to make it an excellent show.  With the Undertaker, Stone Cold, Mankind, D-Lo Brown, Terry Funk, Vader, Bradshaw, Val Venis, Dustin Runnels, D-Generation X, Ken Shamrock, Savio Vega, Road Warrior Hawk and Mabel, it had plenty of star power. But unfortunately, it has had a couple of matches from Brawl 4 All. (ugh) Conrad watches as Tony looks on for the very first time at Raw from July 6, 1998. 15 Jul 2020WHW Episode 183: ECW Heatwave 200002:53:45
Lot of crazy stuff in this one, kids.  Complete with a disturbance from members of Xtreme Pro Wrestling, the event from the Grand Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles, had very memorable moments.  From the Jerry Lynn-Steve Carino bloodbath, to Justin Credible against Tommy Dreamer, to a very exciting six-man tag match to RVD vs Scotty Anton, this night had something for everyone. This final ECW produced pay per view was in front of a raucous Los Angeles crowd that made for a fine evening.  And let's not forget about Francine !! 22 Jul 2020Episode 184: TNA 07-17-0202:15:45
So this was NWA-TNA in 2002, huh? Yeah, it was bad. Oh, it had some great moments: like Low Ki vs AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels and Elix Skipper vs The Flying Elvises, but most it sucked. From a "little person" doing some "questionable things" in a trash can, to Francine and Jasmine fighting in a shower, this was known more for its sex than its wrestling. You're invited to join Conrad and Tony as they watch a show loaded with wrestling talent, but empty on entertainment value. 29 Jul 2020Episode 185: TNA 07-31-200202:13:39
Okay, so then there is this. The infamous episode of TNA where Jeff Jarrett comes to the ring with a "little person" in a sack. Beats him up and then ANOTHER little person named "Puppet" arrives and pulls a gun on Jarrett.  Got it. Wait. WHAT? It's all here from 2002. And even AJ Styles vs Elix Skipper could not save this show. And you think WCW was bad? Well, it was, but maybe not THIS bad. 05 Aug 2020Episode 186: SummerSlam 199703:03:10
We go back to your childhood once again, and this time we stop at an historic moment in pro wrestling. It was on this show that Owen Hart's piledriver injured Stone Cold Steve Austin's neck and changed things quite a bit. But there is more! HHH vs Mankind in a cage, Ken Shamrock vs the British Bulldog, Gold Dust against Brian Pillman and Bret Hart meeting the Undertaker. Dave Meltzer did not really care for this show, but you know what we say about that. Because WE did. Enjoy SummerSlam from New Jersey and from 1997!!! 19 Aug 2020Episode 188: WCW Clash of the Champions XXXIII02:15:09
It's a wrestling show loaded with talent, but also loaded with short matches.  Join Conrad and Tony as they take you back to your childhood of 1996. Hulk Hogan vs Ric Flair was the headliner, but it also had the Steiners, Sting, Lex Luger, Hall and Nash, DDP, Harlem Heat, Eddie Guerrero, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, VK Wallstreet, the Giant, Chris Benoit, Ultimo Dragon, Konan, Glacier, Kevin Sullivan, Col. Robert Parker, Sister Sherri, Queen Debra, Jimmy Hart, the Barbarian, Hugh Morrus, Madusa, Bull Nakano, Woman, Miss Elizabeth, Meng, and, it what will go down as a sensational matchup, Rey Mysterio against Dean Malenko. It wasn't well received by the dirt sheets, but it had some great moments. And it was the NWO before the NWO was ultra cool. 26 Aug 2020Episode 189: ECW Doubleheader (08-30-94 and 09-03-99)02:01:12
Conrad and Tony take you back in time to TWO very different episodes of ECW.  First, we go back to 1994 when Extreme Championship Wrestling was born.  When Shane Douglas threw down the NWA belt and became the ECW champ.  It was quite a swerve to the NWA and will never be forgotten on many levels. Then we will go back to the very first live-to-tape ECW show on TNN in 1999.  Taz opened the show with a big win and later, The Dudleys were a big part of the episode as this would be their last show before leaving to the WWF (E).   Also, both episodes have some great Tommy Dreamer moments as well.  Strap in for an EXTREME RIDE! 02 Sep 2020Episode 190: WCW Monday Nitro 09-01-199702:40:09
Regardless of how you feel about the NWO parody of Arn Anderson and the Four Horsemen, you can't deny that you will never forget it.  Well, it's all here including some pretty good matches and some very long interviews and video packages. Additionally, what happened behind the curtain that night BEFORE, DURING and AFTER the infamous parody?  Well, we have the answers on What Happened When. Join Conrad and Tony in a show featuring the Outsiders, Hollywood Hogan, Eddie Guerrero, Lex Luger, Dean Malenko, Ultimo Dragon, Raven, Stevie Richards, DDP, the Macho Man Randy Savage and a whole lot more. 09 Sep 2020Episode 191: WCW Clash of the Champions XX02:19:21
It's a fine celebration of 20 years of professional wrestling on "The Superstation" TBS.  Complete with legends such as Gordon Solie, Bruno Sammartino, Andre The Giant, Dusty Rhodes, Bill Watts, Thunderbolt Patterson and more!  However, there was also some (not much) wrestling action featuring Ron Simmons, Cactus Jack, Vader, Rick Rude, Sting, Dustin Rhodes, Barry Windham, Jake the Snake Roberts and many others. We go back to 1992 when the Bill Watts era attempted to be completely different than the WWE...but then there was Turner Home Entertainment that didn't give a damn about Bill Watts, as long as they could turn "Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal" into a sitcom. 14 Oct 2020Episode 196: WCW Thunder 10-04-200002:13:56
If you like great wrestling action with great storylines...then you have come to the wrong place.   A show that was long on skits and interviews and short on action, the event was from Long Beach, California and is best known for the standoff between Jeff Jarrett and Beetlejuice of Howard Stern fame. That was in the very first segment and it went downhill from there. The crew was ready to embark on a trip to Australia and this was the last stop on what was a lousy tour out west before the long trek to Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.  This was WCW approximately five months before the end and there was no doubt the promotion was in trouble.   Support us on Patreon, get this show early and ad free, plus TONS of BONUS content: patreon.com/WHWMonday Like us on Facebook: facebook.com/WHWMonday Check out all the new cool merchandise at BoxOfGimmicks.com Buy a shirt at LoisRules.com Subscribe to our YouTube channel: youtube.com/whw Save thousands at Savewithconrad.com Learn more about your ad choices. 21 Oct 2020Episode 197: Sting's Debut-WCW 10-17-8701:39:42
We think you are really going to dig this!  October of 1987, Sting makes his debut on TBS and World Championship Wrestling! It's easy to see how his character grew from this moment, but it is also great to see how much potential he had from just one match and following interview. Just like all TBS studio programs in that era, this show was short on wrestling action but long on great interviews. This is one to remember! A lot to unpack in this one as we begin Halloween week of 2020.   Four great performers battle in the main event in what was the very first Halloween Havoc ever!  Flair, Funk, Sting and Muta!  How about that for a lineup?   All four in a Thunderdome match, a cage with so much decoration that it caught fire (a great Halloween treat)! Plus, the Road Warriors, the Midnight Express, the SST, the Steiners, Doom, Tommy Rich (Somebody say something about Halloween???). Lex Luger, the Freebirds, Brian Pillman and more.   Enjoy Halloween, WCW style! 18 Nov 2020Episode 201: Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling 11-16-8501:36:00
It was the build up to Starrcade '85: The Gathering. And it's HARD TIMES. Yes, the famous interview by the American Dream Dusty Rhodes as he readies to do battle with Ric Flair. Also, it's the buildup to Tully Blanchard vs Magnum T.A. and the famous "I Quit Match." 15 Jan 2020Episode 157: WCW Souled Out 200002:53:59
You've heard the guys describe WCW as being a "coffin on rollerskates."  Well, nothing more exemplified that statement than the WCW event Souled Out from 2000.  Many guys were out the door after this one as WCW was caught up in who was in/who was out/and who would be booking next.  Not many good matches to choose from, but there was Chris Benoit winning the WCW title and Diamond Dallas Page and Buff Bagwell battling for the love of a woman.  It was an event beset by change after change after change to the card and about 14 months later, the promotion was DOA.  But enough of this sad stuff, enjoy a laugh or two while watching along with Souled Out 2000. 12 Feb 2020Episode 161: The Main Event 02-05-198801:12:53
Was this the best angle ever in wrestling? Many feel so. The Hebners as double-referees. Andre the Giant beating Hulk Hogan. The selling of the belt to the Million Dollar Man. The subsequent stripping of the world title and the following tournament to decide a new WWF Champ.  But there is also the Macho Man against the Honky Tonk Man, and, if you look quickly, Strike Force against the Hart Foundation. 05 Jan 2022WHW Episode 260: Monday Nitro 01-04-99 the Finger Poke of Doom02:53:49
It's' the Finger Poke of Doom! It's the "Butts in Seats" comment. It's all here! The reason WCW lost the Monday Night Wars. Not so fast!  Even though those two incidents have resonated among wrestling fans for decades, the main reason WCW lost the war is actually all wrapped up in this episode. This Monday Nitro episode sucked! Even though on this show were legendary greats like Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Charlotte Flair (as a young Ashley in the ring with her dad), Kevin Nash, Goldberg, Scott Hall, Konan, Diamond Dallas Page, Chris Jericho, Lex Luger, Scott Steiner, Buff Bagwell, Eddie Guerrero and more there were too many long, drawn out vignettes and too little pro wrestling. However, there is an interesting backstory to all this, and it has to do with the ratings when Goldberg finally made it to the arena. Enjoy! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
12 Jan 2022Episode 261: World Championship Wrestling-Lex Luger Debut 01-17-198701:51:38
We take you back to the TBS Studios in Atlanta in 1987 where we first heard from and then saw in action, "The Total Package" Lex Luger. Make no mistake, this was not his first time wrestling on television, as he had been a part of Championship Wrestling from Florida, but this would be his first time on a national broadcast. We will also hear from Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, the Four Horsemen, the World Tag Team Champions--Manny Fernandez and Rick Rude, Jim Cornette and the Midnight Express, the Road Warriors and Ivan Koloff as he brings in Vladimir Petrov to deal with nephew Nikita Koloff (who has gone soft with the American way)! 19 Jan 2022Episode 262: Clash of the Champions XVIII02:41:55
This TBS special, which aired on January 21, 1992, pulled in the lowest ratings numbers of any of the "Clashes," but was, critically, one of the best ones that aired on TBS between March of 1988 and August of 1997. From the opening bout, featuring the Steiner Brothers against Vader and Mr. Hughes, to the final match with Sting and Ricky Steamboat meeting Rick Rude and Steve Austin, this program was LOADED. Also in action we will see Brian Pillman, Johnny B. Badd, Cactus Jack, Arn Anderson, Bobby Eaton, Larry Zbyszko, Dustin Rhodes, Barry Windham, Ron Simmons, the new Freebirds, PN News, Diamond Dallas Page and more. Plus, the WCW debut of Jesse "The Body" Ventura! Get ready to relive some great moments and great memories from the early 90's in WCW. 26 Jan 2022Episode 263: Royal Rumble 201702:20:22
We celebrate five (count 'em, five!) years of WHW with a look at the 2017 Royal Rumble. Back in January of 2017, Conrad Thompson brought Tony Schiavone's attention back to wrestling when this podcast began, and for Schiavone, this event--the 2017 Rumble--was the first wrestling program he watched since his departure from wrestling in 2001. So, this time we will watch it together. We will watch the WWE Championship match between John Cena and AJ Styles and then the 30 man Royal Rumble. It's a great look back, if for nothing else than to see how many athletes are still in the WWE or have moved on. 02 Feb 2022Episode 264: WCW SuperBrawl VI03:08:52
The WCW Annual February event was a few months before the advent of the NWO. Packed with stars and some very bad matches, the pay per view event was not short on major talent. Two cage matches highlighted the event with Hulk Hogan meeting the Giant and Ric Flair going up against the Macho Man Randy Savage. The event also featured, Sting, Lex Luger, the Road Warriors, Konnan, the Nasty Boys, Diamond Dallas Page, Harlem Heat, Johnny B. Badd and more, but what it will most be remembered for is the "I Respect You" strap match between Brian Pillman and Kevin Sullivan. 29 Apr 2020Episode 172: WWE Backlash 200602:47:09
It was 2006 and Vince McMahon ruled the (wrestling) world. What else was he was he to do? Enter the grand idea of winning a tag match against God. Yes, this will go down as one of the most absurd event ever cooked up by the the WWE, but hey, no competition and a group of lousy writers, why not give it a shot. So enjoy Mr. McMahon feeding loaves of bread and fish to the masses, changing water into wine and fondling Candice Michelle (really bad). And while you are at it, enjoy Big Show against Kane with a bizarre ending. Oh, also there is a very, very good three way match for the WWE title between HHH, Edge and John Cena. All your favorites are here:  Joey Styles, Rob Van Dam, the Dudley Boyz, Shane Douglas, Raven, Tommy Dreamer, Francine, Joel Gertner, Beulah McGillicutty, Sabu, the Sandman, Tazz and Jerry Lawler! Jerry Lawler?  That's right, the King was part of a "WWE Invasion" angle during this time as the answer to the NWO on WCW. 13 Nov 2019Clash of the Champions XXV: 11/10/199301:49:04
Another one of those, WCW/NWA/TBS ventures that was full of talent but slim on great action.  What can we say?  Any show that has The Shockmaster against The Equalizer cannot be all that great.  But it did have Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, Dustin Rhodes, Steve Austin, Sting, Rick Rude, Road Warrior Hawk, Vander, Steve Regal, Bill Dundee, Johnny B. Badd, Brian Pillman, the Nasty Boys (WITH MISSY HYATT) and Davey Boy Smith.  Whew!  That's the extent of it.  Oh, and some confusion about the condition of stabbing victim Sid Vicious.  Join us from the Bayfront Center in St. Petersburg as we present another TBS cluster****:  Clash of the Champions XXV!! See Tony and Conrad joined by good ole JR LIVE in Nashville, TN this Wednesday November 13th in Nashville, TN after AEW Dynamite. 04 Nov 2020Episode 199: ECW November to Remember 200002:56:35
It's another venture back into ECW, but this time it's when the promotion is on the down-slide.  Still, there's a lot of good things including:  Jerry Lynn, Justin Credible, Kid Kash, CW Anderson, FBI, Mikey Whipwreck, Yoshihiro Tajiri, Da Baldies, The Sandman, Dawn Marie, Francine and the GREAT Chris Hamrick. Plus Steve Corino gets his well deserved due, his first World Championship. Keep an eye out for Angel of Da Baldies suffering some severe burns and for Francine's posterior getting plenty of camera time during the finish of the main event.   Also listen for "Tony's Nightmare" and "Tony Does Love Songs." 11 Nov 2020Episode 200: World Championship Wrestling 11-12-198801:47:39
Back we go to the 80's during the WTBS studio days.   Jim Crockett Promotions was in turmoil with their selling to Turner Broadcasting not too far away.  Behind the scenes, apparently the friction between Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes is at an all time high. So, as stories and legend have it, Ric Flair goes out and has a great match with George South just to prove a point. But there is much more, including a promo from Jim Cornette directed towards Paul E. Dangerously that is can't miss.  We think you'll agree, it's one of the classic promos of all time. It's time to hop in the time machine and take you back to when wrestling on TV looks a whole lot different than what you see today. 25 Nov 2020Episode 202: Starrcade '85-The Gathering03:21:14
During this Thanksgiving week, we go back and take a look and listen to when Thanksgiving night was the biggest night of the year in Pro Wrestling. Starrcade '85 was full of memorable moments, but if you think it was because of the end of the Dusty Rhodes/Ric Flair title match, then you miss the point and are only looking for the negative. There was so much more:  Magnum T.A. versus Tully Blanchard in an "I Quit" match for the U.S. Title.  Buddy Landel winning the National Title and the Rock and Roll Express topping the Ivan and Nikita Koloff for the World Tag Title. There were some other matches that had their moments such as Superstar Billy Graham and the Barbarian in an arm wrestling contest.  Black Bart meeting Ron Bass in a bullrope match and the Midnight Express against Jimmy Valiant and Ron Garvin in drag in a tuxedo street fight. A lot to unpack, but a lot of NWA-Jim Crockett Promotions history in the making. 02 Dec 2020Episode 203: World Championship Wrestling 11-26-198801:57:50
We go back to one of the turning points in Jim Crockett/NWA/TBS history.   When Turner Broadcasting purchased Jim Crockett Promotions, they wanted to tone down the violence.  And for reasons still not really known to this day, Dusty Rhodes, the booker for JCP did the exact opposite.   The "spike in the eye" will go down as one of the most memorable moments of TBS studio wrestling and led to Dusty being ousted as booker. It's all here.  The stories, the questions and...the blood. 09 Dec 2020Episode 204: WCW Monday Nitro 12-08-199702:01:39
It was a great time in WCW.  It was during the build-up to what would be the company's biggest night:  Starrcade '97, Sting versus Hollywood Hulk Hogan. From a sold out arena in Buffalo, New York, stars like Macho Man Randy Savage, Diamond Dallas Page, Lex Luger, Buff Bagwell, Konnan, Ric Flair, Curt Hennig, Rick Rude, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Eric Bischoff, Dean Malenko and more were all there. As history would prove, Starrcade three weeks later would become quite a controversial event, but the road there would be very exciting. 16 Dec 2020Episode 205: WCW Monday Nitro 12-21-199802:43:24
It's the Monday Nitro "go-home" show for Starrcade '98, and...well...you could see the paint peeling off the old WCW machine. No Hogan, no Sting, no Macho Man, no Roddy Piper, no Bret Hart. The show did have plenty of star power, though: Goldberg, Hall and Nash, the Giant, Ric Flair, Eric Bischoff, Arn Anderson, Chris Jericho, DDP, Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio, Jr. and more. The matches were not good, but the Flair interview about Bischoff is worth its weight in gold. Welcome to WCW at the beginning of the three worst weeks in company history. Directly ahead: Goldberg loses, the finger poke of doom, and the butts in the seats fiasco. 23 Dec 2020Episode 206: WCW Starrcade '9803:12:55
Starrcade was always WCW's premier event. So, it's obvious Hulk Hogan, Sting, Randy Savage, Lex Luger, Roddy Piper, Booker T. and the Steiners were all there.  WRONG. All were missing. But. there was Goldberg vs Kevin Nash. And this was the night the streak would end at the hands of "Big Sexy." Was this the biggest turning point in WCW?  Go down "memory lane" with Conrad and Tony as they discuss not only the main event, but also Ric Flair vs Eric Bischoff, DDP vs the Giant and a thrilling three way match featuring Juventud Guerrera, Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio, Jr. (and then Eddie Guerrero). 03 Feb 2021Episode 212: Superstars on the Superstation 02-07-198602:04:40
Our look back at JCP on TBS in 1986 takes you to the night of the dream matches. For weeks, in January, fans watching World Championship Wrestling were asked to send in postcards of the matches they would like to see on TBS. The result: Superstars on the Superstation. The event was held at the Omni on 02-02-86 and broadcast five days later. It drew a rating of 3.2 and featured such "dream" matches as: Ric Flair vs Ron Garvin for the NWA World Title, the Midnight Express vs the Rock and Roll Express for the NWA World Tag Team Championship, Dusty Rhodes against Tully Blanchard for the National Heavyweight Title and the Road Warriors against Ivan and Nikita Koloff. It's a departure from the weekly Saturday night, 6:05 shows as the 02-01-1986 edition is not available for watch-along. But this has some great action and interviews and a departure from the norm for Jim Crockett Promotions during the wonderful year of 1986. Additionally, in what may be one of the most inappropriate episodes of 1986, Baby Doll is attacked by Jim Cornette and Gorgeous Jimmy Garvin and Precious make further fun of Wahoo McDaniel's heritage. The angles don't hold up well in the world we live in now, but no denying, JCP on TBS was on a roll. Also, two big announcements on this program about what is coming to JCP this summer, one made by Mr. Jim Crockett at the start of the program and one made by a stumbling, bumbling Tony Schiavone at the end. 23 Jun 2021Episode 232: World Championship Wrestling 06-21-198601:26:22
We look back at a great show heading to the Great American Bash 1986. It's a short one and the matches are VERY short as well, but it was not your typical two-hour broadcast. Ivan and Nikita Koloff ramp up the verbiage heading to the best of seven for the US Title. The Four Horsemen do something that not many, if any, can say...they COMPLETELY lay out the Road Warriors leading to Ric Flair vs Hawk in Philadelphia to kick off the summer. And Big Bubba "no sells" the famous chair shot from the American Dream Dusty Rhodes. Get ready, folks! The Bash is almost here! 30 Jun 2021Episode 233: World Championship Wrestling 06-28-198601:33:12
It's the "go home" show for the Great American Bash. This episode of World Championship Wrestling originally aired three days before the first of the events:  Veterans Stadium, in Philadelphia.  However, on this show, David Crockett sits down with Dusty Rhodes and Magnum T.A. and discusses what "America" means to them. In action, the NWA Tag Team Champions , the Midnight Express defeat Sam Houston and George South in a pretty good, but quick tag match. National Champion Tully Blanchard is in action as well. And Road Warrior Hawk prepares to do battle with Ric Flair as the two will meet in Philadelphia to kick off the Bash. Not the greatest of "go home" shows, but we will hear from Shaska Whatley, and that, in itself, is worth the listen. 07 Jul 2021Episode 234: World Championship Wrestling 07-12-198601:56:57
A great show from the famed Dorton Arena in Raleigh that is completely different from the studio shows...and some great matches not normally seen on TBS.  We will see Black Bart vs Ron Garvin, Tully Blanchard vs Wahoo McDaniel, the Midnight Express against the Road Warriors and a Bunkhouse Match featuring the Rock and Roll Express and Dusty Rhodes against Ric Flair, Arn and Ole Anderson. WOW! Some good stuff and a very good angle between Jim Cornette and Baby Doll. A few notes concerning this episode: The 07-05-86 show could not be found. We looked. So we are jumping ahead one week to 07-12-86. Additionally, the show has many blurred out parts in the beginning, so hang in there. Another 6:05 show that is taken out of the studio and on the road during the Great American Bash of 1986. This time, from Columbia, SC, a very loud and lively crowd will get to see, the Rock and Roll Express against Ole and Arn Anderson in a 30 minute time limit draw. But there is more, Don Kernodle is in action, Tully Blanchard against Sam Houston and the first couple of minutes only (sorry) of the Midnight Express against Dusty Rhodes and Magnum T.A. Plus many great interviews, may of which were conducted by Jim Cornette. It's the middle of the summer and it's Bash Time! This is the original home of the "Bash" in 1985, but a year later it was the fourth on the tour after, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and Memphis. A classic event, including Shaska Whatley getting a haircut thanks to Jimmy Valiant, a classic taped fist match between Tully Blanchard and Ron Garvin and what can be considered a five star match between Ric Flair and Ricky Morton. Once the show begins, the announcement is made of Magnum T.A.'s tragic accident.  The program tries to put a positive spin on it, but much is still unknown at that time. But the show itself is loaded.  It includes, the Road Warriors making their challenge to Jim Cornette and the Midnight Express for a scaffold match at Starrcade, and Nikita Koloff coming to the ring, turning babyface, and helping Dusty in a very emotional angle. We jump ahead a week during our look back at JCP/NWA in 1986, because, basically, this is the next one available to watch. It's a good one, too. Chocked full of intense interviews from Ric Flair, Nikita Koloff, Jim Cornette, Wahoo McDaniel, Rick Rude and Tully Blanchard and matches from Gorgeous Jimmy Garvin, Arn Anderson and Brad Armstrong. All so short, that you might miss them if ya blink. However, the start of the program shows the iconic (can we use that word here?) shot of the pumpkins being throw off a scaffold by the Road Warriors as they get ready for the Midnight Express and "Starrcade '86: Night of the Skywalkers." Always great content leading up to Starrcade, and this was no exception! 03 Nov 2021Episode 251: World Championship Wrestling 11-15-198601:47:35
As we edge closer to Starrcade '86, the height and danger of the scaffold match comes into focus, and nothing sells it better than a rarely seen video of Jim Cornette and the Midnight Express prepping on the scaffold. It is GOLD and a must-see. Also, we will hear from Dusty Rhodes and Nikita Koloff, Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard and Rick Rude. Plus as a "hidden gem," the late Ricky Gibson (wrestling as Ricky Lee Jones) teams with Tim Horner against the Mulkeys and the finishing move by Gibson is WAY ahead of its time. 01 Dec 2021Episode 255: World Championship Wrestling 11-29-198601:40:11
Starrcade is over and now the focus of JCP is the Bunkhouse Stampedes going across the country in December. However, this is a different show: no Ric Flair, no Four Horsemen, no Dusty Rhodes, but still plenty of action with a damn good main event. At the end we will see a 12+ minute match with Brad and Bob Armstrong against Jimmy Garvin and Bill Dundee. It was a match made right in the studio when Garvin and Dundee attacked Bullet Bob with a trash can. BUT, the trash can incident is edited out of this program. What remains though is a great impromptu match and a sensational Brad Armstrong interview. Great stuff from 1986. From the intense promos from Dusty and Nitka, the Four Horsemen, the Rock and Roll Express, Jim Cornette, Ric Flair, the Road Warriors and other to the match where the Ragin' Bull and Rick Rude beat up some poor opponent and made him bleed in the ring, this was an unforgettable episode of TBS studio wrestling. 25 Dec 2019ECW Massacre on 34th Street-200002:51:04
Well, nothing says Merry Christmas like a good ole ECW Pay Per View.  The beloved promotions was not too far away from closing its doors, but that did not stop the action.  Even though there was no RVD or Taz or Sandman (until the very end), there was plenty of action.  Highlighted by a three way match for the ECW title between Steve Corino, Jerry Lynn and Justin Credible.  Conrad and Tony take you back on another nostalgia-fueled trip 19 years ago.  No, it wasn't a "Miracle" on 34th Street is was a "Massacre." 18 Mar 2020Episode 166: WCW Uncensored 200002:48:01
Certainly a pay per view featuring Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Sting, Lex Luger and Sid Vicious has to be good, right?  Wrong.  The year 2000 was one to forget for WCW as in about a year the company would go "belly up."  But still, you're invited to join Conrad and Tony for a look at a Bullrope Match, a Yappapi Indian Strap Match and the worst Lumberjack Match ever to take place in pro wrestling. Yes, WCW was in full "Coffin On Rollerskates" mode on March 19, 2000. On this episode of What Happened When, Tony and Conrad celebrate the 25th anniversary of one of ECW's wildest PPV events, Heatwave 2000. Lot of crazy stuff in this one, kids. Complete with a disturbance from members of Xtreme Pro Wrestling, the event from the Grand Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles, had very memorable moments. From the Jerry Lynn-Steve Carino bloodbath, to Justin Credible against Tommy Dreamer, to a very exciting six-man tag match to RVD vs. Scotty Anton, this night had something for everyone. 20 May 2020Episode 175: WCW Monday Nitro 05-22-200001:48:52
This episode of Nitro was known as the funeral for Ric Flair, but it was also a funeral for WCW. The promotion was certainly a "Coffin on Roller Skates" at this point in its history.   Actually, it was chocked full of WCW stars, but there was just TOO MUCH GOING ON. You needed a scorecard and Ritalin just to keep up with everything. From a lovers spat between Billy Kidman and Torrie, to Booker T. getting fired, to the funeral, to the Norman and Ralphus car wash, to Terry Funk's non-announcement, to Kanyon's injury...whew! Were there matches scheduled? Uh, we think so. Hogan, Scott Steiner, Vampiro, Kevin Nash and Jeff Jarrett and more were scheduled to be in action. Did they actually have matches? We can't remember.  Enjoy some of the bitter end of WCW: Nitro May 22, 2000.  Learn more about your ad choices. Get ready for three hours of wrestling action featuring only four teams and four singles competitors. We are not so sure what "Future Shock" stood for in 1989, but 30 years later it stands for ill-conceived wrestling event. Ric Flair, Sting, Lex Luger, the Great Muta, the Steiners, the Road Warriors, the New Wild Samoans and Doom all got together for a December event at the Omni that everyone in the WCW office thought (we guess) would be great.
