03 Sep 2023Leading with Compassion featuring Matias Sorevik00:30:49

This episode features my first international guest, Matias Sorevik.

Together, we talk about:

  • Creating future leaders
  • How to best engage our youth
  • The power of leading with compassion, not command
  • Similarities across the globe in engaging our youth

Enjoy!!

Matias Bio:
I am a Norwegian Social Entrepreneur and Leadership Coach.

I started my professional career in the Royal Norwegian Air Force, and thereafter I studied economic geography. Upon graduation, I worked full-time in Sales and Customer Relationship Management. During this time, I learned essential career skills in terms of leadership, people management and mindset development. My experiences from working in an international and diverse environment, provided me with a unique understanding of cultural differences and workplace communities across the World.

Eventually, I decided to move onto the field of entrepreneurship and social innovation, that I now work on. Using personal experiences from my school days as a teenager, combined with lessons learned from my professional career and travels across Europe, I work towards helping young people with identifying their interests, develop their leadership skills, and motivate them to find what drives them during their personal journeys.

I believe that there is a solution to every problem, and therefore continuously look for new knowledge to identify new opportunities, and make those available for all, in order to create social innovation and possibilities for everyone.

01 Oct 2023Conquering Toxic Traits:A Journey to Self-Discovery featuring Erika Ng00:41:22

In this episode, I speak with Communication Coach Erika Ng. Coming to us from Indonesia, she shares her ex-pat working experiences throughout the years. Together, we dig into...

  • The pitfalls of hiring friends
  • How far we will go to be in the 'circle of trust'
  • Forgiving our inner mean girl
  • Toxic tendencies crossing cultures

 Erika's Bio
Communication Coach. Podcaster. Expat.

My mission is simple – I want to help people. Cheesy as it may sound, it's the truth. In a world where we can connect with people at the click of a button, we've also become more divided. I’m from Canada but have spent the past nine years living as a cultural minority abroad. This experience has shone a light on the differences in how people share and receive information, making me realize just how heavily we lean on assumptions in our daily interactions.

Now, I'm based in Bali, armed with the hard-earned wisdom from my time abroad. I work closely with clients, expanding their self-awareness, exploring various perspectives, and equipping them with the communication tools they need to achieve both personal and professional success.

At the end of the day, we humans are social beings, making communication a crucial life skill.

In my free time, I host a podcast called "Self-Help Junkie." Here, I delve deep into topics alongside experts and book enthusiasts, unraveling the challenges they've faced and the enduring habits that have led to their success. Our debut season centers around the theme of romantic love, covering everything from the intricacies of jealousy and shame to the world of erotic massages.

Whether you're a leader or an employee, we all encounter challenging situations at work, and it's crucial to understand the roles we inhabit—instigator, recipient, or observer. We'll explore how recognizing and embracing these roles can lead to greater self-awareness, improved workplace culture, and ultimately, a more compassionate and effective leadership style.

🔑 Key Takeaways:

  • Self-awareness as a Catalyst for Change: Emphasizing the importance of recognizing your role and actions to drive positive cultural shifts in your team or organization.
  • Universal Scenarios and Compassion: Sharing stories and common situations we all face, highlighting that it’s okay to make mistakes and learn from them.
  • Three Roles Framework: Understanding whether you’re an instigator, recipient, or observer in toxic situations can help you make better, conscious choices moving forward.
