17 Feb 2022Managing Endometriosis and IVF with Jade Walker00:35:15

Joining us today is Jade Walker, a Naturopath who specialises in Women's Reproductive issues, gut issues and chronic immune disorders issues.

Today we'll be discussing How to manage Endometriosis and IVF.

About Jade Walker
As a degree-qualified Naturopath who’s worked amongst many health professionals, Jade has been able to help many people recover and live lives they didn’t think were possible.

Personally, she experienced a long-term battle with terrible period pain, gut issues and wavering moods before finally realising she had SIBO and endometriosis. She went on for years (in fact 18 years ’til diagnosed endo), not getting answers. Multiple visits to the ED, doctors and even a laparoscopy, and every time she was told everything’s “normal”.

It wasn’t until studying a bachelor of health science in Naturopathy that Jades eyes opened to the possibilities of 1) what her condition could be and 2) what can actually be done to heal.

So after researching, healing herself, and helping hundreds of clients, Jade now dedicates her life’s purpose to help other women be able to experience a better quality of life.

P.S. my second laparoscopy with an advanced trained excision surgeon did indeed confirm I had endometriosis.

31 Mar 2022The Oestrogen & Histamine Link with Steven Judge00:42:44

Joining us today is Steven Judge, a naturopath specialising in chronic and complex conditions. Today we'll be talking about the often misunderstood link between estrogen and histamine.

About Steven:
Steven runs a private practice in Sydney which focuses on helping others to take control of their health and reclaim their power. Whether you’re experiencing digestive disorders such as IBS, anxiety, depression, PCOS, thyroid disorders, autoimmunity, cardiovascular issues – Steven is there to simplify your path to health and wellness by getting to the root cause and treating each person as a unique individual.

Steven works in a kind and respectful way, taking into account the sensitive concerns that people may have with their health. He takes time listening to clients’ histories and evaluating the interactions among genetic, environmental, biochemical, emotional, spiritual and lifestyle factors that influence human health and chronic disease. This holistic assessment approach allows steven to provide integrative and individualised treatment plans so that we can experience true health-care, rather than simply disease management.

Whilst Steven sees a variety of presentations in clinic he has a special interest in chronic digestive disorders & mental health. With depression being one of the leading disabilities worldwide and chronic stress and anxiety plaguing millions of people, now more than ever we need to alleviate the burden of these national health priority areas by treating the whole person and addressing all underlying factors. Since experiencing my own healing through natural medicine I am driven to provide the same opportunity for my clients.

About Sally:
S
ally Whitmarsh-Knight has been practising as a Naturopath for over 20 years. During this time Sally has focused her knowledge in the pharmacy setting. Providing Naturopathic consults focusing on family health, fertility, weight loss and general wellbeing.

Sally’s passion is to provide as many people with tools for a healthy life. Sally divides her time at the pharmacy, finishing a Bachelor of Clinical Nutrition and family life with 2 teenagers.

As a qualified Naturopath for 20 years, Sally has worked in many pharmacies combining advice on supplements, herbal medicine, and nutrition with allopathic treatments. Conducting consults within a clinic space and advice on the shop floor, Sally has been able to provide care to a wide range of clientele.

Working in pharmacies has been a unique place to reach a varied audience. Understanding pathologies and their prescribed pharmaceuticals, has provided an opportunity to recommend diet, lifestyle and supplement advice to customers. Many of which would not ordinarily have exposure to natural medicine.

Having worked at Gaslight Pharmacy for over ten years means that Sally has been able to build relationships with a large part of the community. Treating babies, children, their parents and often grandparents. Having a place where a patient can ask about their medicine as well as preventative and supportive help, brings about holistic care.

19 May 2022Clinical uses of Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) with Emily Pickering00:37:52

Joining us today is Emily Pickering, a naturopath and PhD candidate at the University of Queensland who has completed a  clinical trial with Dr Elizabeth Steels using PEA for people with type 2 diabetes, who had peripheral neuropathy.

Tune in as Emily explains the many benefits of Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) across several conditions and why it should be a clinical consideration for practitioners.

About Emily:
Emily is a degree-qualified Naturopath and PhD candidate with the University of Queensland. Her research focuses on nutraceutical and botanical-based treatments for both prediabetes and type 2 diabetes, She is also investigating the risk factors for glucose dysregulation and developing a robust new screening tool for clinicians to use in determining the presence of glucose dysregulation at an early stage. She has worked in several clinical trials as part of her PhD, in particular investigating PEA as a treatment for reducing pain and inflammation in people with diabetic peripheral neuropathy and has an interest in understanding the interconnections between pain, mood, gut microbiome and diabetes.

Alongside her research she practices in her clinic, focusing on conditions that cause pain, hormone dysregulation and mitochondrial dysregulation, which are linked to poor mood and poor energy levels. She is passionate about educating people on the importance of managing blood glucose levels, which are often associated with, but not addressed, in chronic health problems

28 Jul 2022Selecting Therapy Intensity for Patients with Brett O'Brien00:38:35

Today, we're welcoming back Brett O'Brien from Core Naturopathics. And today, we're discussing therapy intensity for various conditions.

In this episode, Brett discusses:

  •  Identifying drivers and roadblocks to health
  • Patient assessment
  • Useful tools to consider
  • Regaining homeostasis
  • Immune system therapy intensity
  • Chronic fatigue therapy intensity

About Brett:
I have practised as a qualified naturopath for almost twenty years, and I am still excited by the
possibilities this career can offer. The constant that I am always most fascinated by is the people. I have always embraced a desire to engage with others. It can be as superficial as my time in sales or as deep as supporting someone at the end of life. The human capacity to communicate, connect and support each other can be extremely fulfilling.

As a Naturopath, trying to understand the human experience is so very complex. Still, I believe I am closer to understanding it through the philosophy of Naturopathy than any other health profession. I love that the body intrinsically understands what it feels like to be perfect, and its aim to return is based on hope, confidence, possibility and self-sustainability. I believe the role of the naturopath is then to provide a managed reconnection with this innate capacity. Our role is to identify and remove the roadblocks that inhibit the body from what it already knows. Our tools of the trade then provide a means of traction and momentum and a road map. It has taken nearly twenty years to know this.

As a Naturopath, you are constantly scrutinised about your effectiveness in a medicalised system. To rediscover a philosophy and confidently embrace a paradigm that has almost disappeared and build a business model around it has been a massive risk. But the amazing thing is, is that most people intrinsically know this paradigm and just need a road map to navigate by. Core Naturopathics returns to the ideals of the past but represents a very modern application. I believe naturopathy can be a modern, scientific and results-based wellness paradigm that supports people's capacity to heal and thrive. It also represents my vision to engage with others, experience the human condition and trail blaze through this new age of wellness.

03 Nov 2022Phyto-Estrogens in Menopause with Jen Harrington00:37:31

Joining us today is Jennifer Harrington, a Naturopath who specialises in helping women through their menopause experience chats to us about Phyto-Estrogens in Menopause - Enhancing Effectiveness for Better Outcomes.

In this episode, Jen discusses:

  • What phytoestrogens are
  • What role do they play in therapy
  • Why phytoestrogens often fail in larger clinical trials
  • How to prioritise phytoestrogens in therapy

About Jen:
Jennifer’s interest in natural therapies started when she was diagnosed with PCOS in her early twenties and was told she may struggle to ever have children.

Upon graduating from naturopathy, she moved to Thailand and started working at the famous “Chiva Som International Health Resort”. It was an amazing experience and an opportunity to rub shoulders with the best minds in the industry, both from a traditional and modern medical perspective.

Jennifer returned to Sydney in 2005 to become a mum. She is eternally grateful she found naturopathy and was able to have a child after all.

After working in various Sydney-based clinics and corporate health businesses, Jennifer decided it was time to open her own clinic in 2010. After advertising as a hormone specialist, she found she had more menopausal clients than fertility clients. Her menopausal clients' fast transformations made her rethink her work, and she started Menopause Natural Solutions in 2014. As the years rolled by, she sold her bricks and mortar clinic to free up more time to dedicate herself to researching and creating a better way to help more perimenopausal and menopausal women.

05 Jan 2023ENCORE: The Link Between Estrogen and Histamine with Steven Judge00:42:44

I'm your host, Andrew Whitfield-Cook-Cook. In this Encore episode Steven Judge, a naturopath practising in Sydney, discusses the link between estrogen and histamine and how it affects gut health.

Steven learned about this link while studying to become a naturopath. He found that many women were presenting with excess estrogen symptoms caused by histamine intolerance. To resolve these symptoms, it is necessary to detoxify the body and support the gut.

"The issue isn't estrogen or histamine. They have jobs to do, which are very important. The issue is that the body is not handling it properly, and we're not getting it out right."

In this episode, you will learn the following:
1. The link between estrogen and histamine and how they can impact each other in a vicious cycle
2. The difference between a conventional and naturopathic approach to treating histamine intolerance
3. The importance of detoxification in resolving histamine intolerance

About Steven:
Steven runs a private practice in Sydney which focuses on helping others to take control of their health and reclaim their power. Whether you’re experiencing digestive disorders such as IBS, anxiety, depression, PCOS, thyroid disorders, autoimmunity, or cardiovascular issues – Steven is there to simplify your path to health and wellness by getting to the root cause and treating each person as a unique individual.

02 Feb 2023Healing Mould Biotoxin Illness: The Essentials with Amie Skilton00:50:52

Today we welcome Amie Skilton to Wellness by Designs, an expert on mould and mould illness, who has embarked on a mission to help people struggling with the effects of water-damaged buildings and who battle the ironic challenge of finding a safe and healthy environment to heal.

In this episode, you will learn the following:

  1. The prevalence of water-damaged buildings in the Western world
  2. How to identify mould without visible evidence?
  3. The need to take action early when one suspects mould illness to avoid becoming more severely affected.
  4. How to prioritise treatment in Mould biotoxin illness, a genuinely complex condition
  5. What are the symptoms and conditions associated with mould?
  6. How to balance appropriate assessment and remediation with the cost?
  7.  treatment guidelines

About Amie:
Amie Skilton – is a functional medicine practitioner of almost 20 years and a well-known educator in naturopathic medicine. For over 15 years, I’ve had the privilege of appearing on conference stages, TV sets and – more recently – laptop screens via Zoom. In that time, I’ve had the honour of presenting more than a thousand keynotes to functional medicine practitioners, integrative GPs, holistic pharmacists and the general public.

In 2017, I had the plot twist of my life. I developed an environmentally-acquired illness (CIRS or ‘mould illness’) and, amongst other discoveries, realised my naturopathic, nutritional and herbal toolkit was only as valuable as my environment was healthy.

I’m now a qualified Mould Testing Technician and continue studying building biology and the various ways in which the built environment has a profound impact on human health. So my educational repertoire has expanded to include environmental health hazards and functional medicine strategies.
