We are not experts nor will we ever pretend to be. We’re new moms sharing our personal experiences - unfiltered. The raw emotions of early motherhood, the unglamorous moments, the societal pressures - we’re sharing it all. If you can google it, you won’t find it here. We’re here to talk to you as fellow mamas and friends, not tell you how, when and what to do. In these candid conversations, we commit to sharing honestly and vulnerably. We’re just two first-time mom best friends, Dale and Annabel, navigating our motherhood journeys together, and hope that by sharing, we can support you on your own journeys. 09 May 2024 | JOMO > FOMO | 00:27:42
Comparison is innately part of us as and let’s be honest, this construct feels intensified during motherhood. From body image to baby milestones, preschool admissions and so much more, the comparison and fear of ‘falling behind’ is real. How do we ground ourselves? How do we tune inwards and learn to make decisions based on our own intuition? We explore how our ego meddles with our parenting decision and why it’s important to pause, take inventory and sometimes give ourselves a reality check. 23 May 2024 | The postpartum Identity crisis | 00:22:59
Let’s chat: identity. Yes we are first and foremost moms, but we’re also so much more than that. Regardless of if you’re a working mom or a stay at home mom, we’re all innately multifaceted as humans, we’re sisters and daughters, friends and partners…the list goes on. In this episode, D&A chat about their previous identities, and how they’ve shifted, how motherhood has forced them to take inventory of their ‘roles’ and make adjustments to ensure alignment. They discuss identity crisis, questioning their purpose, uncovering so much about themselves after becoming a mom, and realizing that it’s okay to have conflicting desires - wanting to have a careers, yet also wanting to spend all day with your kids. Wanting to have alone time, but feel guilty taking it. Wanting to have an active social life, but not want to leave the house. All these different expressions can be true at the same time - the shame and guilt that comes with these desires is societal, not our own. 30 May 2024 | Routines: Sleep, naps, feeding, solids | 00:39:46
Today’s episode is all about routines. We’re big fans of routines as they keep us sane, but getting on a routine that works well for your family, be it: sleeping, eating, napping, etc is hard. We chat through the first year of schedule and share our day-to-day routines, including our morning and night time routine. We speak about sleep training, starting solids, meal planning and how everything feels daunting the first time around. We chat about how we block out the noise and do what’s best for our families, go at our own pace and do what feels comfortable to us. 13 Jun 2024 | Are we romantic partners or business partners? | 00:27:35
One of our most requested topics - relationships. With the new responsibility of a child, our relationship dynamic changes - duh, we just don’t think we realized how extreme the change would be. We speak candidly about falling into defined roles, co-existing / co-parenting vs spending quality time together, the importance of clear communication, intentionality with our time, and how we keep our romantic relationship from turning into a business relationship - a work in progress for us. Is ‘balance” even achievable? Does resentment of carrying the mental load sometimes get in the way of connection? How do we go about prioritizing our partner and not taking our relationship for granted? Tune in to her more…we’ll definitely need a part two. Megan Roup is a celebrity trainer, founder of The Sculpt Society and most importantly, an incredible and inspiring mom of two. 27 Jun 2024 | Milestones & Comparison | 00:28:42
There are so many “milestones” for our children that are tracked since the day they’re born. Not just from our doctors, but it seems to be the first question most people ask when asking about your child. In this episode, we dive into the emotional component and get real about the shame, guilt and judgement that can arise if our children don’t hit milestones “on time.” We may wonder if our children are behind or blame ourselves for not “doing enough.” D shares openly about her son’s walking status and how our emotions toward milestones are in fact a huge mirror into our past childhood experiences. We chat through what we can do to heal our inner child and remove the shame we attach to it. Our children will forever be hitting milestones, I mean does it ever end? We have to find ways to protect our peace. This is a must listen for any parent going through it. 04 Jul 2024 | Mom shame | 00:22:49
Shame came on quite strongly for both of us during motherhood - we felt alone and isolated throughout various stages of pregnancy and motherhood. It’s one of those ugly emotions that eat at you, so we’re here to break it down and share our experiences with it. D opens up about the shame that came up on her breastfeeding journey and A shares about the shame she felt surrounding her birth experience. D&A chat through many other instances of shame they’ve experienced in motherhood and how as women, a lot of the expectations we’re ‘supposed’ to meet are impossible and often times conflicting. We’re supposed to be with our kids 24/7 and not have help, yet we’re also supposed to work and make money. We’re shamed if we take a solo trip with our husbands without our kids, yet also shamed if we don’t put our relationship first. Damned if we do, damned if we don’t. Especially as moms, we need to commit to (not detract from) the practices that make us feel good, mentally and physically, in order to show up as the best mom for our children, in addition to the best version of ourselves. We discuss how we make time for ourselves in this new chapter, our favorite practices and rituals and how feeling good >> looking good in our new era. No topics are off limits - postpartum depression and anxiety, the “roommate” phase, therapy, sex and intimacy (spoiler alert: she’s having the best sex of her life post-baby), and the identity crisis that comes with motherhood. As three recovering perfectionists, we get into the importance of healing our ‘inner child’ in order to show up best for our children without projecting our past traumas onto them. 08 Aug 2024 | An LA mom living and parenting in Paris | 00:36:56
Living and parenting in France is VERY different than the US and Annabel’s here to answer all of your questions: from why they’re in Paris, what they brought and what they bought, how they found an apartment and a nanny, their daily schedule with Gemma (15 months) and all the ways they’ve adapted to French culture and living. Lastly, she shares how relocating to Paris with a toddler, while an incredible experience, was not always as glamorous as it may seem. Being completely out of your comfort zone can really test you, but there’s also so much magic in that - so much growth and key lessons that will help shape her motherhood journey. As all three of us are pregnant with our second, we discuss the transition from 1-2 and what she would do differently. 07 Nov 2024 | D&A on their career journeys, identity shifts into motherhood and how More Than Moms began | 00:33:09
So many of you have asked us to share more about our careers so here it is! Spoiler alert, we both work full-time and More Than Moms was started as a passion project to quench our longing for community as new moms. We discuss our careers post-college and how they morphed into what we do and who we are today. While we have had very different career paths, we’ve shared many common themes including embracing change, taking risks, evolving, pivoting, and starting before we were ready. We speak candidly about how motherhood shifted our careers, our struggles / identity crisis in motherhood and how ultimately, motherhood allowed us to really uncover and show up as our authentic self, creating more alignment in our lives. We dive into identity shifts, not letting our career ‘title’ identify who we are, and the many parts of our identity aside from motherhood - because if you’re a working mom or stay at home mom, we’re all more than moms. They also talk about the boundaries and systems they have in place to ensure they’re including time to rest, either alone or with family, so they can be present and recharged. 19 Dec 2024 | In laws / parents and parenting | 00:29:43
One of the most talked about themes on our instagram: navigating in laws / parents. Everyone has their own family dynamic, but D&A shed some light on their personal experiences with their family and in-laws, as well as common family dynamics so many of us experience. They discuss the fine line between parents, ‘parenting’ us vs. being grandparents to our kids, the importance of clear boundaries and outlining roles / responsibilities and the need for mutual respect. While our parents / in laws may want to share opinions and advice for our own benefit, sometimes we as parents need to make our own mistakes and go through our own journey in order to learn and gain confidence as a mom. The mom / in law / parent relationship is a tricky one - we’re definitely not experts on this, but we are learning to set some important boundaries which we hope will help you on your own journeys. 02 Jan 2025 | We are NOT in control: learning to release control and surrender to life’s twists and turns as moms | 00:23:41
In this episode, Dale and Annabel open up about letting go of control. Annabel shares how her second pregnancy has pushed her into full surrender mode, while Dale reflects on how life with two under two has taught her to release expectations and embrace the chaos. Motherhood and pregnancy are the ultimate bootcamps in relinquishing control—forcing us to let go of rigidity, redefine productivity, and delegate more of the mental load we carry as moms. D&A discuss the challenges of releasing perfection, trusting others to step in, and breaking free from old standards that no longer serve them. They also dive into how this shift extends to their partnerships, learning to trust their husbands to take on more, and finding freedom in releasing control over “how things should be.” If you’ve ever felt the weight of trying to do it all, this conversation will leave you feeling seen and ready to let go.
