The debut. Welcome to the WA Running Podcast, aka, The WARP. A podcast by WA runners, for WA runners. We believe there is a lack of promotion in the Perth running scene and want to do our upmost to bring greater education and interest across the roads, trail and track of WA running. There is a great culture, with great races and some big personalities that we want to bring greater awareness to. Every week we will be previewing upcoming races, reviewing the weekends results in depth and interviewing some of our communities big runners, coaches, race organisers and past legends, as well as keeping you up to date with our own personal training and racing goals. This week the WARP is carried by Sinead! Unfortunately we weren't able to meet to record over the weekend, so we apologise for missing the usual results. Namely the 6 Inch Ultra Marathon, which will belatedly cover next week. However, Sinead had the privilege of sitting down with Sarah Jamieson during the week - one of WA’s greatest ever exports in the sport of track running. Sarah is a 3 x Olympian & held the National 1500m record for 12 years until it was broken in 2018 by Linden Hall. Sarah shared how she got into the sport of running, some of the injury struggles she dealt with throughout her career, her most memorable race at the 2006 Monte Carlo Golden League (pictured) - as well as her life after running & her thoughts on the current national & WA track scene. 2024 Goldfields Pipeline Marathon (Kalgoorlie) •⁠  ⁠50km: Nathan Fawkes (3:34:08) & Jackie Kellerman (3:48:09) took line honors, with Jackie coming in second place overall as well as first female.  •⁠  ⁠Marathon: Jon Pendse took out the Marathon in 3:11:08 for his 98th Marathon. Both hosts do very little running this week, with Dan still nursing a sore knee post charity run and Matt getting distracted by a new fascination in Golf and cross training. Arguably Perth's biggest day on the running calendar is on next weekend with the Perth Running Festival. Matt and Dan are joined by Elite Athlete Coordinator, Sam Maxwell, to help preview the Elite Fields and who to watch out for next Sunday across the 4 distances. Sam gives us intel on the big names making the trip to Perth from overseas. We discuss how the event will hope to grow in coming years and what it may take to attract Australia's best runners. We also have a chat to Matt Neves, who takes on the iconic Cape to Cape Trails on Monday. We discuss his high mileage training, the inspiration for taking on the challenge and all  of the intricacies involved for such a big day. Good luck Matt!
