19 Dec 202115. Your Body is Your Trusted Guide00:29:38

What happens when we start tapping into the body’s compass? We begin tapping into the soul and we begin to let go of roles, responsibilities, and beliefs that are not in alignment with our bodies. This means that we might interfere with other people’s expectations of us, allowing us to have more transparent and open communication pathways.

My foundational coaching tool is using your body compass to align the mind and body. The truth is, I've always been finely attuned to what does and doesn't feel good for me. However, this skill has taken a lot of work to learn. In the process, I have discovered what works and doesn’t work for my body — and you will too. In today’s episode, I discuss what happens when we start tapping into our body’s compass and how aligning the soul allows us to let go of roles, responsibilities, and beliefs that are not in agreement with our bodies.

When things get chaotic—when the noise of the world has you spinning in circles—listen to your body. If my body is talking to me, I will listen. If I don’t listen, I will get sick. After all, your body keeps the score. Listen in to learn more about how you can find the sweet spot, the place where you can be sure, without any doubt, that you are following your true “North Star” — and that you are heading in the correct direction.

Listen to the episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, TuneIn, or on your favorite podcast platform.

Topics Covered:

  • How does your body compass talk to you?
  • Your body is a library of everything that has ever happened to you
  • How to make peace with your past
  • When we are ruled by our ego we end up harming ourselves and others
  • The physiological responses that involve your body
  • How does your body respond to your environment and the people in your life?

12 Feb 202222. Continuing the Conversation About Women's Pleasure00:15:02

Many of us will give ourselves permission to have a successful career or begin a family with our partner, but we forget about carving out time for ourselves — to meet our body’s wants and needs. So, what exactly do we mean when we talk about giving ourselves permission to feel pleasure? According to my sources, pleasure is defined as “...a feeling of happy satisfaction and enjoyment, an event or social activity from which one experiences enjoyment and sexual gratification.” For the purposes of today’s episode, I really want us to lean into the feeling of satisfaction and enjoyment or sensual gratification as they related to sensations and emotions.

I want to take you back to the last time you felt pleasure as the result of one of your intimate relationships. How did that feel? What emotions did you experience? I have also struggled with the concept of pleasure all my life. It is a tricky subjective, hedonic quality to capture. Join me on today’s episode as we continue the conversation that we started last week with my good friend and colleague, Robyn Spens.

Interested in learning more? Listen in to learn more about the importance of protective and healing authentic pleasures, how honesty can open ourselves up to a life that is abundant with pleasurable experiences, and ways in which we can engage in transparent, authentic, and open conversations that meet our body’s needs.

13 Jun 2023Finally Thriving with Allison Pelot, Host of Integrate Yourself Podcast00:43:28

Author and podcast host Allison Pelot joins me to expand on the principles of empowered wellness. We talk about daily practices that allow space for reflection and connection, as well as what inspired her to write her book, Finally Thriving

Allison highlights how writing has the power to bring subconscious stories to the surface and provide a different lens on life. In building the habit of journaling, we can follow our curiosity and disrupt patterning. So many of us are used to living life like we’re performing, but once we start to detach from the outcomes and embrace the flow, that’s when we truly start thriving.

Allison and I discuss the value of prioritizing time to be in your energy, or as she likes to call it, taking yourself out on a wellness date. There’s a certain abundance and vitality that comes from living authentically, and Allison shares ways to get started on that journey.

Listen to Allison’s wisdom about living in alignment and practicing genuine self-care.

22 May 202235. Leaning In and Healing Humanity00:16:26

As I was preparing to pack up and leave Miami Beach to spend the summer with my family in Chicago, I felt a lot of fear and anxiety bubbling up. When I was riding my bike the other day, I came to a breaking point and did something out of my norm that inspired me to think deeper about our human experience and the damage we do by trying to protect ourselves.

When I’m feeling overwhelmed, I have my go-to tools: HeartMath breathing techniques, movement, and grounding. Those are meaningful and essential tools but they are primarily done in isolation. This time, I leaned in and shared my anxiety, thoughts, and fears with my husband. His support, kindness, and compassion lifted the heaviness that I was feeling and put this summer relocation into perspective. I was reminded that nothing substitutes for the human touch of sharing what feels burdensome.

Human to human and human to nature will solve the current drug, loneliness, and suicide epidemics. By removing our layers of protection, which is nothing more than a false sense of security, we can help each other heal and thrive. So, are you going to lean into and share how you're really feeling with one chosen confidant? Listen in to hear more about what’s on my heart.

Topics Covered:

  • The moment that I knew I had to lean in and ask for help
  • Why flying solo isn’t always the most effective path
  • The connection between isolation and the current drug and suicide epidemics
  • Humanity heals through connection with nature

28 Aug 202249. Challenging the Phrase, "BE SAFE" with Your Host, Dana Frost00:24:44

There’s a two-word phrase that’s come up a lot since 2020, and it makes me cringe every time I hear it: be safe. I’m reflecting on some of the ways that I’ve defied that sentiment in my adult life and how getting outside of my comfort zone has always paid off in the end. I also touch on my experience at the LifeWave Global Convention that I went to recently and my thoughts on becoming a grandma at the end of September.

Learning more about light therapy and getting involved with LifeWave has been one of the greatest ways that I’ve challenged the status quo. Research shows that light therapy helps to decrease pain and inflammation and increase blood flow, and I believe that LifeWave has the most effective and affordable solution out there. In today’s episode, I highlight how incorporating the LifeWave patches into my wellness routine has impacted my life and what I think about the future of effective medicine.

As always on this show, I like to be honest about the lessons that I’ve learned throughout my life and embrace the challenges that have been thrown my way. I share a major regretful decision that I made when I was about to graduate college, and how that experience informed my relationship to risk and safety as I got older. Plus, I talk about some things that are shaking up my world right now and how I’m approaching those milestones and events.

Listen in to hear my thoughts about why I don’t believe in living a “safe” lifestyle and what I’ve learned by taking risks throughout the years.

05 Dec 202263. A Coaching Tool for Feeling Younger and Bio Hacking Longevity00:18:00

We all put up with environments, behaviors, and relationships that drain our energy and take up space in our lives. What’s an area of your life that you’re simply tolerating right now?

An easy way to take stock of where you're settling is to evaluate your living space. Your home is often a metaphor for how you feel inside. Does everything look neat and clean, but the drawers and closets are pure chaos? When there’s clutter in your physical space, it often creates confusion and blinders. It’s harder to connect with yourself and really listen to that wise inner voice.

In this episode, I explore how this toleration practice has supported me in my health and healing journey. I also discuss how doing this work has improved other facets of my life, including my relationships and experience as a mother.

My challenge for you this week is to tackle an area of your living space that you’re tolerating. Maybe you’re like me and have a catch-all drawer, or maybe you have a chair in your room that’s become a second wardrobe. Whatever it is, chip away at it until it fills you with peace and joy when you see it.

Listen in to hear more about my favorite coaching tool that you can use to close out this year feeling light, inspired, and ready for your next leap.

As we approach the holiday season, I want to offer a practice that feels really supportive and grounded. In this episode, I illustrate ways to embody gratitude and stream it to and from your heart center.

It’s no secret that gratitude has powerful healing energy. When you are truly in gratitude and allow yourself to sit in that feeling, it shifts your entire frequency. When you're feeling appreciation and gratitude, the reward center of your brain lights up and releases dopamine, the feel-good neurotransmitter in the brain. You can use focus, breath, and visualization to harness the self-healing powers of your mind.

I break down the four qualities of a healthy breath and share tools to regulate your inhales and exhales. I walk you through a heart focused breathing exercise that you can tune into daily for just a few minutes, and I promise it will help you navigate these next couple of busy months.

23 Jan 202219. The Healing Power of Light Therapy00:23:09

I believe that light therapy and stem cell therapy are the two most important medical advances in today’s society. They lead to better sleep, improved sex drive, decreased pain and inflammation, greater mental clarity, improves strength and stamina, improved mood regulation. For example, we know that inflammation is one of the roots of pain and where there's inflammation, blood flow to the region is restricted. And, therefore, it is unable to deliver the healing benefits of the immune system that it carries. Light therapy has been proven to be able to help reduce these adverse effects and improve overall health and wellbeing.

From my perspective, light therapy is the go-to biohack. As a technology that I've been using since 2016, I can say from personal experience that this therapy is a game-changer — and one that you will not be able to  Light therapy has been clinically proven to decrease pain and inflammation and increase blood flow. Unlike conventional medicine, it captures light that radiates from our body in a healing capacity.

Listen in to learn more about how I have implemented light therapy into my everyday life, including how it is able to target the energy stores in our bodies. From my experience, every cell becomes ignited with light. More light, more energy, more light, more vitality, more Vitally You®.

  • Light therapy, specifically its ability to regenerate cells at the mitochondrial level

05 Nov 202110. Feeling Younger Growing Older with Myriam Lluria Sitterson00:31:07

Myriam Lluria Sitterson shares her story, starting with her early years as an immigrant from Havana, Cuba. As a child, she experienced violent reactions to vaccinations, chronic upper respiratory infections, and severe digestive issues. Like many Americans, her diet consisted of cheap, shelf-stable basics like Velveeta and Spam. She was in and out of hospitals and prescribed antibiotics for about three years, which wiped out many of the beneficial bacteria in her microbiome.

Her teenage years weren’t any easier. Menstrual issues, acne, fatigue, and migraines held her back from enjoying life like the rest of her peers. At age 19, she discovered a natural health food store and started her healing journey with a week-long water fast at a wellness retreat. For the first time in her life, she felt free from the toxins trapped in her body.

Shortly after, she sought out the advice of one of the top gastroenterologists in Miami. When the doctor dismissed her by telling her that she was too young to be experiencing the issues she was going through, she knew she had to find another solution.

When she started having kids, she finally connected with a pediatrician who affirmed her ideas about the connection between health and nutrition. She cut out wheat, dairy, and sugar for herself and her family, and has only continued to feel better as she ages.

In this episode, Myriam and I discuss tips for how to create a non-toxic household and lifestyle. She shares her strategies for how she supports herself in terms of the level of toxic exposure in her environment, and how her entire life is structured to support her health. Listen in to hear more about how Myriam is feeling younger while growing older!

27 Mar 2024The Heart-Brain Connection: Your Emotions Impact More Than You Realize00:32:16

Did you know that your “vibe” is a real, palpable thing? This week, I'm sharing how you can neutralize triggering emotions and calm your body when you feel anxious, stressed, and depleted using very simple science-backed breathing techniques.

Your heart is so smart that it knows your feelings based on the vibration broadcast throughout your body. All feelings either fuel positive or negative charges in the body. How people experience you is through this vibration; the energy that is broadcast emanates from your heart rate variability.

I share the story of how I first discovered this connection and how healing the heart has more to do with the mind and emotions. This ultimately led me to discover the HeartMath®️ Institute. Through HeartMath®,️ I discovered their scientific breathing techniques that taught me how to calm triggering emotions and restore coherence throughout my mind and body system.

HeartMath® techniques neutralize triggering emotions during stressful periods, which will otherwise negatively impact your heart rate. This is important because the brain decides the next best action based on your heart rate. The techniques restore coherence between the heart and the brain rhythms by promoting positive emotional states such as appreciation, compassion, and gratitude.

I then introduce the emotional compass, which illustrates how certain emotions impact the nervous system. This framework gives a deeper understanding of how, why, and when the brain releases either stress hormones or happy hormones. To encourage the happy hormones, I offer detailed instructions on how to perform three HeartMath®️ breathing techniques: Heart-Focused Breathing®, the Inner Ease®, and the Heart Lock-In®.

Our nervous system can get stuck in flight, fight, or freeze, and can potentially compromise our health and immunity. I leave several questions for listeners to ask themselves to gain deeper insight into their own connection between heart and brain, as well as breath, body, and emotions.

Jenn shares how she’s been able to declutter some of the old beliefs and stories that have held her back, and use her intuition to guide her to where she’s meant to be.

Being on the road has given her an opportunity to revisit her roots and become a curious observer of her own experience without any judgment. We talk about how she’s found a sense of community and support from other travelers, and what she’s most looking forward to in this next chapter of life. 11 Sep 202251. My 40 Years of Zen: Interruption, Forgiveness, and Resilience00:28:11

I have a major life update to share since I published my last episode: I am officially a grandma! Like most things in life, the timing of my grandson’s entrance into the world was unpredictable, but I’m grateful that I can stay calm under pressure and quickly adapt to challenging situations. Like I mentioned in the episode about safety, hyper-vigilance stunts resilience, and it’s times like these where you need to be able to pivot and go with the flow.

Even though I had to leave the 40 Years of Zen program early to be by my daughter’s side, I still have quite a few takeaways from my time there. I share what I can see so far about my brain mapping results, an exercise that made a big impact, and my gentle approach to the healing journey. While I was there, I was able to tap into the root of my self-protective patterns and explore moments of soulful forgiveness.

Listen in to hear more of my reflections on this next chapter of my life and my experience at the 40 Years of Zen program.

Rachel White, aka The Skeptical Shaman, blends real-world pragmatism, her sense of humor, and ancient tools and techniques into her practice as a trained shaman, medium, energy practitioner, self-published author, and flower essence maker. In today’s episode, we dive into the world of floral essences and Rachel shares some of the behind-the-scenes of her business.

Like so many of us who lived in cities during the pandemic, Rachel was itching to get out into nature, but she was limited to her balcony and the rooftop of the building she lived in. She decided to get creative by planting a small herb garden and accidently discovered the world of floral essences. Rachel talks about the serendipity that comes when you explore new things from a place of joy and breaks down her intuitive approach to picking out seeds and cultivating flowers.

Rachel and I discuss the benefits of floral essences and the metaphysical energy inside each bottle that she packages by hand. She also shares her top recommendations for people who want to expand their vitality and explains how flowers like Milkweed, Passionflower, and Evening Primrose have supported her in the aging process. I’m joined by Catharine Arnston, Founder, CEO, and Chief Scientific Officer of ENERGYbits, the small-but-mighty superfood algae tablets. Catharine shares her vast knowledge of the powerful healing properties of algae and how these superfoods may be the key to help heal chronic health issues.

Catharine’s journey into the world of algae began in 2008 after her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and her oncologist advised an alkaline diet. While helping her sister find alkaline foods that could improve her health, she stumbled upon thousands of studies on algae’s healing properties. Catharine shares how algae has the power to heal disease and improve your well-being and the specific makeup of ENERGYbits.

From there, Catharine details the importance of sourcing, the difference between fresh spring water and natural waters, and why intentional sourcing is a long-term investment for your overall health. Catharine illustrates the health and diet benefits of two types of blue-green microalgae — chlorella and spirulina — and notes the spiritual essence of spirulina as the highest vibrational food on earth.

Then, Catharine explains how mitochondria generate cellular energy in the body and the many reasons why it's considered “the powerhouse.” She also shares why damaged mitochondria DNA can lead to treating health and two ways to protect mitochondria in support of health and longevity. 25 Sep 202253. State of Modern Healthcare and the Industrialized Medical Model, Is Big Pharma Serving Positive Health Outcomes? BioHacking Conference Update00:39:15

The US life expectancy at birth is at its lowest since 1996, but meanwhile, we spend the highest amount on healthcare per capita than any other nation in the world relative to our wealth. On today’s episode, I’m pulling back the curtain of what's been going on within the US healthcare system and what the statistics really show.

Two of the leading causes of death in the US, heart disease and liver issues, are conditions that are both preventable and figure-out-able. Decreasing inflammation is easily done through diet and lifestyle changes, and I’m living proof that it’s possible to reverse chronic conditions. But, these modalities don’t provide any financial gain for corporations and Big Pharma. To date, the largest drug companies make higher profits than the largest companies of any other sector. Our healthcare budgets are increasing while health outcomes are decreasing.

So, where do we go from here? Luckily, lifestyle medicine, functional medicine, and holistic practitioners are showing some positive health outcomes for people with chronic disease and pain. I’m urging you to take your health into your own hands and get curious about how you can truly heal.

Listen in to hear my thoughts about the current state of healthcare in the US and where I see possible solutions.

Today, I’m joined by functional nutritional therapist, clinical herbalist, and yoga teacher China Rose Zamora. She has almost 25 years of experience in the holistic health field and knew from a very young age that she was called to plant medicine. China Rose is on a mission to help women discover ways to nourish themselves deeply and feel connected with that process. She’s an advocate for wellness as a fun and rich journey, as opposed to another trendy thing to check off the list.

China Rose and her partner AJ run an award-winning apothecary that was originally a brick-and-mortar store in Napa, but they’ve transitioned to the online space. She shares details about some of her best-selling products and her vision for the future of the store. She dives into simple strategies for how to incorporate plant medicine into daily life and her herbal recommendations that offer support to women as they age.

Perhaps one of the most interesting parts of China Rose’s story is that she and AJ travel around the country with their tiny house trailer. 08 Aug 2023Relationships and Longevity00:23:30

You may have noticed there wasn’t an episode last week. That’s because I’ve spent two weeks working on this topic: relationships relative to longevity. I share how relationships seem fractured since the pandemic and my own challenges connecting.  My perspective feels rocky, but there is a desire to lean into human connection with each of you and continue sharing in hopes of strengthening community and our bond to one another. While the national mood and media would have us focus on our differences, our humanity invites us to lean into our commonalities.

In this episode, I talk about the Blue Zone communities around the globe, where humans have the most longevity and lifespan. I also detail a Harvard study on adult development which says that relationships are the key to happiness — not professional success, wealth, or education.

Listen in to hear how relationships are the key to healthy longevity, current data and research about life expectancy, and my outlook on my relationship to connection and desire to continue showing up with and for all of you if hearing my voice weekly is beneficial.

28 Nov 2023Part Six, The Well-Lived Life, by Gladys McGarey, M.D. Spend Your Energy Wildly00:26:09

Spend Your Energy Wildly is the topic for Part 6, the final episode in our six-part book series. Gladys’ teaching is that living well is a matter of learning how to steer your energy toward life. I recap the previous five lessons and illustrate how to receive the lessons and love from each moment. I share client stories and moments from my own life tied to the choice of expanding your energy wildly vs. wisely. I end the episode with Gladys’ six-part practice on how to embrace and appreciate the gift of life.

Gladys shares the decision to stop fighting at school in order to make connections. She had to redirect the energy and unconscious patterns created in her family with intention and purpose. We all have sovereignty over our energy. I share a moment from my life when my husband and I were inspired by families in our church to adopt children of our own. I discovered the capacity of both my light and darkness while raising five children, but I had the agency to expand and move toward light energy.

I also illustrate Gladys’ practice on how to embrace life with a series of questions for inquiry so life can grow and expand with you. Can you feel life’s boundless energy moving throughout your body? This message is a reminder to embrace the wildness of life around you.

Listen in to learn Glady’s teachings as a stepping stone on the journey to a life well-lived. Thank you for joining me for this six-part series. I am honored to be with you. Please reach out.

02 May 2023An Introduction to Stem Cells with Dana Frost00:27:11

Stem cells are the building blocks for the human body, and without stem cell activity, the body can't repair, regenerate or renew itself. Stem cell activity decreases as we age, but there are several ways to reverse the effects of that biological process. In today’s episode, I share simple, cost-effective wellness protocols that can help you create a healthy environment for stem cells to thrive.

There are three main types of stem cells and different therapies associated with them. But, before you go down the path of procedures that cost tens of thousands of dollars, there are things you can do everyday to optimize healthy stem cell activity. Between your diet, exercise, and stress management, your experience of aging is within your control.

Dr. Alka Patel is a general practitioner, lifestyle doctor, longevity coach, TEDx speaker, author, and podcaster whose philosophy is rooted in stress modifying and age reversing techniques. She believes in aging with vitality, intention, value, and energy. On today’s episode, we discuss her year of self discovery, bringing consciousness to your lifestyle, and top tips for setting your day up for success. Plus, she shares her ten core elements for prioritizing your lifestyle and the importance of practicing daily self care.

Dr. Patel is all about catchy acronyms, and one of my favorites is her acronym for DNA. DNA can feel like an abstract concept, but she has a very practical way of approaching it. She thinks of DNA as Discovering, Noticing, and Activating. She stresses the importance of discovering and noticing who you are and what you want in order to activate where you're going so you can outsmart stress and outlive life.

She also breaks down her DREAMS to Success formula, which stands for Difference, Ready, Energy, Affirmation, Motivation, and Self Care. When she wakes up in the morning, she asks herself a series of questions to jumpstart her day. What difference do I want to make in the world today? How ready am I for today? What energy do I want to radiate out today? What affirmation am I making for myself today? How motivated do I feel about today? And what part of my self care am I going to focus on today? I know I’m definitely going to start implementing that practice into my morning routine.

14 Mar 202376. Daily Ritual Quiet Time Practice00:36:04

Bringing purpose and ritual to the start of each day is a powerful elixir for the rest of the day. Today, I introduce the practice of "Quiet Time,"  a daily ritual in my life since I was a teenager. Through the decades, it's become increasingly valuable and how I access my wise inner teacher.  I’ve worked closely with today’s guest, Linda Neff, and introduced her to quiet time and tuning into the innate wisdom within.

In our conversation, we discuss how our quiet time rituals have evolved over the years and why it’s something that we continue to show up for daily.

We’re all inundated with outside influences and noise, but when I have my morning quiet time, I find that I can move through life more intuitively and connected. In this episode, Linda and I look back on periods of our lives where quiet time really shifted what we were feeling and provided us the space to proceed in a more aligned way.

Linda and I share some of the props and elements of our routines that have been supportive throughout the years, such as journaling, reading, or sometimes simply sitting in silence. Linda also opens up about what’s been coming up for her in quiet time during this season of her life.

Listen in to learn about what quiet time is and why it's where I start with my clients.

23 May 2023A New Approach to Reducing Osteoporosis and Reducing Fracture Risk with Dr. John Neustadt00:38:15

A woman's risk for an osteoporosis fracture is greater than her combined risk for breast, uterine, and ovarian cancer, but it doesn’t get nearly enough attention. I’m joined by Dr. John Neustadt, Naturopathic Physician and Integrative Medical Expert, to discuss what we can do to help maintain and improve bone density as we age.

As we lose mobility, our vitality absolutely diminishes. The conventional healthcare model focuses almost exclusively on bone density testing, which measures calcium and other minerals in your bones to predict the likelihood of a fracture. John highlights the limitations of these tests and suggests we shift our focus to modifiable risk factors like diet, functional movement, and supplementation.

In our conversation, John shares advice for anyone who feels overwhelmed with their osteoporosis diagnosis and the options for improving bone health. He also expands on the benefits of calcium and vitamin D supplementation, as well as what to look out for when experimenting with different protocols.

Listen in to learn more about bone health and how to decrease your risk for osteoporosis.

20 Nov 202261. A Longevity Strategy for Feeling Younger While Growing Older: Start Here with DANA FROST00:27:10

Guiding the aging process is a long-term project and I’m celebrating 11 years since I started to reverse engineer my biological age. In this episode, I break down my Functional Nutrition framework and tracking tool that will help you understand your baseline and get really clear on how you can improve your longevity strategy.

In order to feel younger while growing older, you need to know what's happening inside your body and be aware of how external exposures make an impact internally. One of the simplest ways to do that in the comfort of your own home is by tracking your food, mood, and elimination via urine and bowel movements.

I share tools to help you know what to look out for, like Vivoo and the Bristol Stool Scale. I also encourage all of my clients to examine their sleep quality, stress management, glucose levels, and energy levels after they exercise.

There are so many effective treatments and modalities out there that can support you, but your central nervous system will override all of your efforts on an unconscious level if you don’t do the emotional work first. If you haven’t already, listen to Episode 8 - Making Peace with Your Past and use that as a launching point.

18 Apr 2023Gwyneth Paltrow's Wellness Routine & The Dark Side of The Wellness Industry00:31:32

When I saw Gwyneth Paltrow was featured on Dr. Will Cole’s podcast The Art of Being Well, a show that I enjoy and respect, I was anticipating a lively and educational conversion. Instead, I was alarmed by the comments that the Goop “wellness guru” made about fasting, nutrition, and aging.

In today’s episode, I unpack the routine that Gweneth Paltrow described on The Art of Being Well and highlight how her habits reveal a darker side of the wellness industry. I share my personal approach to chasing better outcomes than my ancestors, including how I work on supporting a healthy immune system, optimal mind, and strong body.

I find most women are chasing the image of their younger selves, and I’ve even found myself doing the same thing. But when I bring my focus back to the present moment and who I am today, this is where the real wellness journey is happening. I want to encourage you to block out the unrealistic standards and airbrushed photos that wellness “experts” sell to us, and instead  feel the power that is rooted inside of you and allow yourself to express it out in the world.

19 Dec 2023Three Coaching Tips to Thrive During the Holidays00:23:35

In today's episode, I share three coaching tips to help you thrive during the holidays and explore how these self-care strategies can raise energy, shift perspective, and promote healing. I also provide specific examples to help integrate these tips into your daily life beyond the holiday season.

Tip #1: Give yourself permission to take timeouts when with extended family or during large gatherings. Carving out time for yourself will keep your energy tank properly refueled. I detail why I call these the “islands of respite.”

Tip #2: Practice a 12-hour fast and be mindful that your daily habits include consuming protein, fiber, and fat. Also, make sure you’re staying hydrated and properly digesting and eliminating. I illustrate how this allows the body to properly reset and heal throughout the day and night.

Tip #3: Use the Freeze Frame five-step HeartMath technique to shift you from a triggered state to a state where you can heal. I share why this is a powerful tool to call upon our Higher Self and observe the beneficial shifts.

Plus, I detail an exciting health tech startup called The Metapause that wants to change the menopause narrative and experience for women. I share how my own menopause story was related to my 2011 health crisis involving a pacemaker, various doctors, and learning the role of hormonal health beyond our physical structure. I want to invite you to evaluate every aspect of your life in support of an easier menopause transition and healing in a healthy way.

Listen to this episode for three coaching tips to help you thrive during the holiday, plus information on an exciting new health tech startup that wants to change the menopause narrative. How do these tips land for you? I would love to hear your perspective.

I’m joined by board certified Traditional Naturopath Cathey Painter to discuss what redox molecules are and different protocols for addressing deficiencies. In our conversation, Cathey highlights how we can use redox molecule supplementation to improve sleep, energy, blood flow, and more.

Redox signaling molecules are considered ‘messenger molecules,’ or in other words, they promote optimal cellular communication throughout the body. They work to repair damaged DNA, which is especially important in today’s world where we’re bombarded by toxins. But, what happens when our bodies slowly stop producing these molecules?

Cathey shares examples of health issues that she’s seen in her personal and professional life that have been greatly improved, if not diminished, by redox molecule supplementation. We also touch on how allergies impact longevity and a technique that retrains the nervous system to no longer experience stress by different foods or environmental factors.

10 Oct 2023The Well Lived Life by Gladys McGarey, M.D. a Six Part Book Chat with Dana00:27:30

Thank you for joining me for part one of my Six-Part Book Chat series. In this episode, we dive into Part 1 of the book where Gladys writes about "turning towards life" regardless of the circumstances and using your desires as the impetus to move through challenging seasons. I share Gladys' concept of finding your "juice," a term she uses to describe your vital life force or soul's purpose. I end the episode with Gladys' process for discovering your juice when you feel detached from it.

I have always believed that health is deeper than the physical body, which is why I love the full mind-soul-body, functional medicine lens. Everything is woven together and connected to and through us, from the inside out. When the electrical conduction of my heart burned out, I learned how every experience teaches you something along the way. When things get messy and chaotic, Gladys encourages us to “turn towards life,” a time to find our life force and access our “juice.”

I also share how I was recommended to go the pharmaceutical route during my health crisis and how all areas of our lives must be taken into consideration. For a life filled with true vitality and longevity, I illustrate Gladys’ six-step system filled with wisdom for taking slow, gradual steps toward finding your juice. Different political parties will go back and forth about gun laws, but that’s only part of the solution. What we really need is to restore strong family dynamics, nurturing conversations, and undivided attention with our loved ones.

I share a story in today’s episode about the strenuous relationship that I had with my youngest daughter during her pre-teen years. I eventually pursued counseling and learned how my own trauma was interacting with hers. The therapeutic process saved me, and therefore saved my family. We were able to have transparent, authentic conversations, albeit difficult at times, but the way that I showed up for her demonstrated that I cared for her wellbeing. Unfortunately, so many young people don’t have that dynamic anywhere in their lives.

How can we collectively create a safe space for all humans? I challenge you to start with where you have influence in the world一in your own home. We are all a work in progress and we simply need to get started. Listen in to hear my reflection on how we can collectively heal humanity.

16 Oct 202256. Self-Acceptance with Dana Frost00:21:40

When you’re in a season of life that finds you stuck in the valley instead of rejoicing on the mountaintop, self-acceptance can be so challenging to embody. But, it’s not impossible. On today’s episode, I’m sharing my thoughts about self-acceptance, the ebb and flow of life, and normalizing the valley periods that we all experience.

It takes a lot of courage to sit with the discomfort and move through conditions that put us in the valley. Accidents, divorce, loss of a loved one, natural disasters, the list goes on and on with events that can trigger physiological, mental, and emotional breakdowns. But, when you resist the urge to emotional bypass and actually put in the work that’s required to overcome those challenges, that’s when you develop the muscle to reach the mountaintop.

When we allow ourselves to rest and relax, we have space for the self-acceptance that’s required during those low moments. Listen in to learn more about how you can support yourself during the ups and downs of life to become a more resilient human being.

Leslie Kenny is certified health coach and the founder and CEO of Oxford Healthspan. After reversing the effects of her autoimmune disease, Leslie founded Oxford Healthspan to identify clinically-safe healthy aging compounds and bring them to market as nutritional supplements. Primeadine® is the first product, a food-based, spermidine-rich supplement.

Leslie breaks down the science behind the ‘miracle molecule’ spermidine and the common benefits that it provides. She’s created a high quality, trustworthy brand that makes it easy to consume spermidine and track changes. I’ve personally noticed major improvements in the quality of my sleep, skin, and hair since I’ve started taking Primeadine®.

In our conversation, Leslie opens up about her rheumatoid arthritis and lupus diagnosis, and how she challenged the status quo when it came to managing the symptoms. 24 Jul 202244. Standing Up for Your Life, Setting BIG Goals to Leave the Small Minded Preoccupations Behind00:36:40

I’m joined by Camille Martin, a registered dietitian and public health writer. Camille is on a mission to help people release themselves from diet culture so that they can live freely and authentically. Her book, Love To Lose: Love Your Life and Watch the Weight Lose Itself, explores how to make permanent lifestyle changes to lose weight for good and reach your full potential.

Camille and I both grew up during the era when low-fat and high-carb diets were all the rage. Camille started dieting at the age of 12, which eventually led to struggles with eating disorders and body dysmorphia as an adult. She learned to ignore her inner guide and follow what society expected of her. She married a man who she knew wasn’t the right person for her, and stayed married for 17 years until she reached her breaking point. Camille shares her advice for people who are in a similar position and dives into some of the wisdom she’s gained on the other side of divorce.

We discuss how midlife is really an opportunity to wake up and course correct. We’re both big believers that it’s never too late to tune into your intuition and follow your biggest dreams. Camille wakes up everyday and asks herself one simple question: am I happy? She structures her day around what’s going to push her towards her goals and help her thrive, which is something that supports her in her journey to feeling younger while growing older.

09 May 2023Cancel "Cancel Culture" with Dana Frost00:23:00

After being cut out of someone’s life recently, it got me thinking about the state of modern relationships and this culture of excommunicating anyone that we don't agree with. In this episode, I share three frameworks for restoring harmony and healing relational wounds.

Cancel culture plagues our world with depleting emotions like fear, distrust, and anxiety. It might seem easy to block someone online or in real life, but in reality, when that negative energy gets trapped in the body and manifests itself in other ways. Of course, there are situations where it makes sense to uphold boundaries and protect yourself, but when you simply disagree with someone, there are alternative solutions to canceling them.

I’ve witnessed the power of forgiveness first hand, and I share two ways that I practice forgiveness for myself and others. I also try to incorporate transparent, authentic, and open communication skills into everyday life and stay grounded in Don Miguel Ruiz’s teachings about The Four Agreements.

Listen in as I unpack the reality of cancel culture and how we can all become more compassionate communicators.

Understanding what's going on with your genes can make a significant impact on your health outcomes. 12 Jun 202238. The Polyvagal Theory with Christine Morgenstern Shin00:39:31

I’m joined by my functional nutrition colleague Christine Morgenstern Shin to discuss her insights on harmonizing the nervous system through the lens of the Polyvagal Theory. We typically use the terms “fight or flight” and “rest and digest” when discussing the autonomic nervous system, but psychiatrist and neuroscientist Stephen Porges has developed a theory that suggests that there is a third response. The Polyvagal Theory describes the hybrid state of activation and calming that plays a role in our social engagement abilities. In other words, the mind and body work together in response to social cues.

Christine breaks down what the Polyvagal Theory looks like in action and how the autonomic nervous system works almost like a ladder. She shares exercises to get started with exploring the Polyvagal Theory and ways to build awareness around your safety and danger cues. Christine also emphasizes the hope this theory has brought her in terms of her own trauma recovery and stress resiliency. Listen in to learn more about the Polyvagal Theory and how to incorporate it into your healing journey.

29 May 202236. Growing Through Anxiety with Monica Paz00:41:20

This week, I’m joined by Monica Paz, a Certified Nutritionist and Functional Nutrition Lifestyle Practitioner with a Master's in Human Nutrition. She guides her clients on how to use food as medicine to help them get to the root causes of their pain, so they can get back to living a full life.

Monica shares how her own health journey inspired her to reimagine what true nourishment means. Between her deep-rooted fear of flying and the extensive travel that was required by her job, Monica was in a constant state of anxiety. After ending up in the hospital due to her irregular heartbeat, Monica turned to a naturopath. One simple question opened up a world of answers: What’s making you anxious?

When we think about anxiety, we often think of it as just an emotion, but it actually becomes a part of the tissues and often results in a physiological reaction. There’s so much power in speaking your anxiety out loud and getting support from your community. It’s in embracing that kindness and compassion that we realize how loved we are and fear dissipates.

Two tools that both Monica and I have found instrumental in our healing are HeartMath breathing and LifeWave patches. A low vibration emotion can trigger cortisol and adrenaline to take over, but consistently using HeartMath techniques and wearing LifeWave patches helps the nervous system move from fight and flight to rest and heal. Listen in to hear our conversation about the role that human connection plays in making peace with anxiety.

13 Mar 202225. Healing Your Inner Child to Thrive as an Adult00:20:40

Healing your inner child is vitally important work. We spend our childhood imprinting all of our experiences into the fabric of our physical tissues, our mental landscape and our spiritual perceptions. Our childhood experiences can create self-protective patterns, which manifest as roadblocks later in life that can impact relationships, career, success, decision making, ability and even our health.

Today, I dive into why child integration work is crucial to feeling younger while growing older. I share how being the only daughter, granddaughter and niece on both sides of my family affected my upbringing. Part of my journey to healing my inner child started when I became curious about my fear of public speaking and uncovered a very deep-rooted childhood memory that triggered that phobia.

As adults, we can make peace with our past, acknowledge and take care of those little versions of us. I break down a daily ritual practice that you can use to give your inner child some love and attention. I also get into how this work can help you bring coherence to your emotional and mental rewiring. Listen in to discover more about how to integrate your inner child into your adult life.

07 Mar 202375. Happy Healthy Hormones with Dr. Daved Rosensweet M.D.00:41:16

Dr. Daved Rosensweet is the Founder of The Menopause Method, a comprehensive approach to treating the many symptoms and physical changes of diminished hormones that women experience in midlife.

Dr. Rosensweet is a leader in the bioidentical hormone therapy (BHRT) field. In our conversation, he debunks the common myths that many women and physicians believe about BHRT and unpacks where most of the misinformation stems from.

In 2002, there was a government-led study known as the Women’s Health Initiative which claimed that hormones for postmenopausal women are harmful. Years later, that conclusion was proven to be false, but the damage was already done. Dr. Rosensweet and his team at The Menopause Method are on a mission to show women that they can have dominion over their wellbeing and thrive in menopause.

Dr. Rosensweet highlights incredible success stories of women treated with bioidentical hormones like estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. He shares his recommendations for finding the right physicians and nurse practitioners who are also dedicated to advancing women’s medicine and resisting the one-size-fits-all approach.

Listen in to learn more about how to increase vitality and improve health outcomes in menopause.

14 Feb 2024The Power of Pattern Recognition to Release Emotional Suffering00:29:53

Do you recognize any patterns in your life? As a human being, I’m sure the answer is a resounding yes. When you find yourself defaulting to an unwanted pattern, you can choose to ignore it or do the work to clear it. In this episode, I unpack the deep connection between thoughts, beliefs, and actions, as well as what I do when I start reliving old patterns that don’t serve me.

In the past few months, I found myself believing that no one understands me, I don’t have room in my personal life for my work, and that the people I love the most don’t respect my career. The busy holiday season brought me back to the years when I was raising my children and supporting my husband’s career. It’s been a long time since these thoughts have come up, but it was an important reminder that life is about presence, not perfection.

When I found myself feeling depleted and stagnant, I took an honest look at my sleep, nutrition, movement, and mindset. I leaned into the practices that have supported me in the past, such as doing my sunrise and sunset routines, getting on my Power Plate, and mirror gazing. Most importantly, when I felt resistance or constriction, I became really curious about it and worked to reframe the thoughts that would appear in those moments.

Listen in to hear how you can cultivate space to release unconscious thought patterns and create a strategy to free yourself from the beliefs that hold you back.

13 Nov 202111. Keeping Up Appearances with Dana Frost00:20:19

One of my favorite sayings is “you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free,” and I live my life by that. Now, that’s not to say that it’s easy or simple, but I think it’s one of the keys to feeling younger while growing older. In today’s episode, I share a few personal examples of times when I seemed happy and poised on the outside, but in my heart, I couldn’t have felt farther from that.

I’ve talked about bits and pieces of my family’s connection to Brazil on the podcast before, but today I share how things were more complicated than tropical beaches and waterfalls. For many families who relocate for work, there can be cultural and language barriers, isolation, and loss of identity for the partner who isn’t working. Luckily, I felt like I thrived with the challenges, but it wasn’t always easy.

Coming back to the US with two adopted children posed all new hurdles for my family and my marriage. Through therapeutic support and showing up to do the hard work, we made it past those difficult times. Even if things looked status quo from the outside, I was able to open up with people in my intimate circle about what was really going on. Setting boundaries and having people in your life who you can trust to be honest with you is essential to living authentically.

Listen in to hear more about how I’ve been able to live a more authentic life by making peace with my past and rewriting troubling emotional and thought patterns. I also share questions to ponder about how you want to feel as you grow older and the benefits of living honestly.

05 Dec 202113. The Power of Natural Light with Roudy Nassif00:47:18

How many times have you seen an ad for blue light blocking glasses that promise to reverse the negative effects of prolonged screen use? It can be tempting to buy in to a quick fix, but today’s guest, Roudy Nassif Co-Founder of VivaRays, breaks down the myths behind those trendy specs and talks about how his company uses breakthrough technology to help get you back on your circadian track.

Roudy shares how his ADHD resulted in him struggling to wind down at night, which caused years of depression, chronic fatigue, and extreme disorientation. It wasn’t until he spent time on a rural farm in Quebec where he was able to connect to his true circadian rhythm that he finally felt fully energized, motivated and focused. This breakthrough started his seven-year journey of studying light, quantum biology, circadian rhythms, and eventually creating VivaRays.

Roudy is dedicated to helping people to unlock their optimal potential by tapping into their rhythm. He and his team developed a three-lens circadian technology that is engineered to block a specific amount of artificial light depending on the light that is present in nature at any particular time of the day. 17 Oct 202107. Activate Abundance with Dame Sandra Biskind00:49:38

Dame Sandra Biskind is growing young, and in this week’s episode, she shares how. Sandra opens up about her meditation journey and how she became the master of her own frequency, or in other words, mind training. Her mission is to help people find unconditional acceptance and love. She’s not afraid of going in and finding the core events, emotions, and decisions that would sabotage her true self. That, she claims, is what opens all of us to be willing to look at the patterns in our own lives and help us accept other people. That’s the key to staying younger, stronger, and healthier.

We also discuss how technology, science, and spirituality come together in the form of LifeWave patches. I’ve mentioned LifeWave on the podcast before, but today we really dive deep into how the various patches work to combat aging and help the body nourish itself. We share powerful stories of healing physical and emotional pain. We also talk about how it’s opened up this collaborative workspace for both of us, and how that support has changed our businesses. Tune in to this week’s episode to hear more about eliminating unconscious patterns and living an abundant life.

12 Sep 202101. Kaiut Yoga, Yoga for Every Body, with Francisco Kaiut00:35:59

The growing tensions and precautions surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic have led to an inevitable lack of focus on our breathing. At this moment, observe how you are breathing. Is it shallow? Is it from the belly? Is it intentional? Most of us have become accustomed to shallow breathing, as a result of our innate flight-or-fight response that becomes triggered amidst dangerous situations. Join us on this week’s episode as we speak to Francisco Kaiut about the restorative benefits of chronic pain and injuries, general aches and stiffness, as well as the aging body. He shares his method The Kaiut Method which he coined and discovered after conducting thorough research on health and wellness modalities.

The Kaiut Method was born from Francisco’s experience managing chronic pain from a shooting accident that occurred at the age of five. The experience changed his entire life trajectory, leading him to conduct a rigorous search for a treatment that could encourage individuals to move their joints whilst stimulating the mind-body connection. He is now a certified chiropractor and yoga master and has studied Cranial Sacral Therapy, Deep Tissue Massage Therapy as well as Polarity Theory in the UK. Join us on this week’s episode as we harness our breath, learn how to decompress after a stressful day, and employ Francisco’s unique yoga method!

21 Nov 202112. Give Yourself the Gift of Time Show Notes00:11:31

For many of us, the end of the year can bring up a lot of emotions and stress. When we’re in fight or flight mode, the mind cannot see possibility–it only sees catastrophe. Most people don’t give themselves sufficient space for all of the things on their to-do list. Between travel plans, shopping lists, and in my case, setting up our condo in Miami for Thanksgiving, it’s safe to say that I was feeling overwhelmed.

I noticed that my mind was racing and my body was giving me all sorts of signs to slow down. But instead of leaning into that stress, I found my island of respite. There’s real power in cushioning between events and responsibilities. Even a little bit of space provides the opportunity to reset and refocus on what’s actually important during the holidays.

So, I gave myself permission to rearrange plans and focus on the details that were in my control. And guess what? Things are turning out exactly as they were meant to. The universe has a funny way of doing that. On today’s episode, I share how you can create boundaries around your islands of respite so that you can show up whole for yourself and your family this holiday season.

24 Apr 202231. Lessons from 32 Years of Marriage00:30:21

As I approach my 32nd wedding anniversary this week, I want to share with you all how my life has been impacted by my relationship with my husband. It’s hard to narrow it down, but there are three major lessons that I’ve learned and ways that I’ve grown since becoming a bride at 24 years old. Little did I know back then that we would become a family of seven and navigate three continents as home base, but through all of that, I’ve learned that there is always hope, forgiveness, and a way through the wilderness.

Most of the time, love is not a feeling, but rather a verb. It shows up in the support, the acts of service, and the acceptance of your dark moments. Throughout the past 32 years, I’ve realized that we are both innocent, and we are both guilty. It takes two people to create the conditions where someone gets hurt. It also takes two people to confront those patterns and course correct.

As our family has grown, it’s also become clear that our relationship is not just about us. We need to take into consideration how our decisions impact the five other lives that we co-created. For us, it’s been worth it to do the work together and see our adult children starting their own families. Listen in to hear more of my reflections and lessons as I celebrate 32 years of marriage.

Listen to the episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, TuneIn, or on your favorite podcast platform.

Topics Covered:

  • How relationships and marriages are as different as individuals
  • What Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another,” means to me
  • Realizing what you’re capable of when you’re under pressure
  • Looking at your partner’s actions through the lens of their upbringing or trauma
  • Fine tuning your curiosity and listening to your partner’s heart

09 Jan 202217. Anger and Longevity with Dana Frost00:13:54

Sometimes we need to get physical with our anger, and I don't mean harmfully. It needs to be released physically. So, ask yourself: where is this negative emotion being stored in my body? What is the story behind it? Is there authentic forgiveness in order for it to be expressed and released?

If anger is allowed a stronghold or becomes chronic, it fast tracks the ageing process. I believe this happened to me prior to my health crisis in 2011. And when it hit me, it took me by surprise. Join me in today’s episode as we discuss the different physiological and spiritual manifestations of anger, various tools and techniques for combatting negative feelings, and I share some of my personal experiences combatting this tumultuous emotion.

Physiologically, the body responds to anger by increasing your heart rate and initiating a cascade of stress hormones that releases toxins into your system, disrupts your digestion, prevents the production of healthy hormones, and impedes your metabolism. Regardless of how anger manifests in your body’s system, it can affect anyone at any time — even after being dormant for extended durations. Curious to learn more? Listen in to today’s episode to find out how you can pinpoint these feelings of anger to then acknowledge and release these negative emotions in order to live a longer, healthier life.

Topics Covered:

  • Finding ways to restore balance in the body and release negative emotions
  • My personal experiences, tools, and techniques for combatting anger

06 Jun 2024Celebrating the Life Cycle of a Woman with Amy Boyle00:24:40

After catching up with my friend Amy Boyle recently, whom I’ve known since 2010, I felt compelled to share her full circle story and how it relates to a woman’s lifecycle. Amy’s story reminds me of how remarkable women are. At every stage, from mom to caregiver, from artist to teacher, from professional to being in service, women have the capacity to shapeshift to whatever situation presents at any given time.

Amy vulnerably shares how the experience of caring for her mother as she prepared to transition became a treasured gift of service. Instead of halting her career or fighting what was happening, she simply allowed its trajectory to shapeshift. There’s so much wisdom in allowing for life’s great unfoldings.

As a photographer, Amy recalls that the lens is an extension of her heart. Through it, she sees and captures the goodness, beauty, energy, and spark of the world. Her vision is contagious! She then walks us through how she decided to take a leap into journalism, first as a student and now as a teacher.

The story of the courage and curiosity that runs through Amy’s family, from her mother to her son, will warm your heart. Don’t miss this positivity boost!

26 Dec 2023A Calming Meditation to Soothe Emotional Triggers00:22:13

In today’s episode, I discuss the emotional experiences that are magnified during the holidays and the extremes of navigating the healing process. I invite you to sit with me for a few moments while I lead a meditation to soothe emotional triggers and provide a pillow of support. It’s a potent time of the year and I want to stick with you on this journey back to yourself.

First, I guide you through how to find a comfortable position and begin to connect with your body. What does your breath feel like? Allow physical touch as you bring attention to all parts of yourself.

From there, start to notice the sensations and vibrations throughout your electric body. Where do you feel tingling? When you bring attention to a part of your body, you can understand what’s happening in that part of the body. This light body is your vital life force.

As you are present in your light body, I share a visualization technique to encapsulate your earth body with a golden light. Then, slowly acknowledge an emotional trigger as you release it from the heart. Can your golden light flow into the heart, clearing energy with warmth and ease? You have the power to be present with your feelings and care for them.

I’m thinking about you, the Vitally You community, with gratitude, respect, and compassion. No matter what you are going through, I hope you feel supported and held. Listen to this episode for a meditation that will guide you into a container of compassion. I will see you the week of January 9th. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

In fact, Just Thrive conducted a study showing that spore-based probiotics are actually helping increase the amount of keystone strains, or beneficial gut bacteria, that we all have in us.

27 Mar 202227. Your Dreams are Fuel for Longevity00:27:10

What’s your big dream? You know that one, the wild, improbable goal that you find yourself daydreaming about. Looking back to 10 years ago, I am currently living what I was dreaming about then: traveling the world and escaping winters forevermore.

In today’s episode, I’m talking about why having dreams for your future is vitally important to feeling younger while growing older. I dive into why many of our dreams remain unfulfilled, how to overcome the obstacles that are in our way to achieving what we want out of life, and what dreaming has to do with longevity.

So many of us are held back by limiting beliefs, fears, and cultural norms. In order to live a vibrant life, we really have to find what is true internally for us, and not just follow what was modeled to us by the people that raised us. The more I've been exposed to different ways of living, the less I feel attached to my humble midwest upbringing.

My guiding principle is that everything I do today and in the near future determines how I will feel and what I will be experiencing in a decade. What are you doing to align with the future that you’re dreaming of? Listen in to learn how you can pursue your dreams and be engaged with the aging process.

Topics Covered:

  • A few of my personal hopes and dreams that I’ve set for myself
  • The importance of a curious, non-judgemental mind
  • Planning with vision and action
  • Matching the vibration of your dreams
  • Why grudges, bitterness, and unforgiveness cannot coexist with dream building

11 Dec 202264. Women's Health and Hormones with Dr. Beth Westie00:35:40

The history of nutrition is built from the male body and not the female body. Here lies the advocacy women need to have in doing their own research beyond the pharmacology of what the Doctor prescribes.

Dr. Beth Westie started her journey in female hormones by finding a different solution for eliminating ovarian cysts. There has to be a different route other than birth control. There is. Through her findings, she built an empire in female health education and her mission is to help women everywhere manage their hormones more organically.

In this episode, Dr. Beth Westie and I discuss how everything in the body is interconnected with our hormone production. When our brains are in a period of transition, our bodies are in a period of transition. The key is to listen to your body and give it what it needs. For most, it is a lack of sleep or, in general, rest. Take a nap, skip the workout, and give your body time to heal.

Another angle is to look at your nutrition intake. Are we getting enough of what our body needs to function properly? Protein, carbs, vitamins, and minerals? Our body needs fuel to run or even walk.

Listen in as Dr. Beth shares all of her resources on the Seven Bodies of Eve and how to accept the body you’re in, the season you’re in, and what to do to achieve your goals.

06 Mar 2024Unlocking the Secrets of Heart Health: Expert Insights & Actionable Tips00:51:06

Taking leadership of your heart health is a key to longevity and vitality. In this episode, I provide a framework for heart health beyond the conventional model that is reliant upon medications.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the U.S. and is the leading cause of death globally. The conventional model relies upon medications to manage blood pressure and cholesterol. If you are willing to take leadership over your heart health, lifestyle and stress management modalities can change the trajectory of your heart health.

When it comes to taking lifelong blood pressure medications, my advice is to question if you want to be on medication for the rest of your life and alternatives for balancing blood pressure.  that protocol. Research supports health coaching as a viable option to positively impact blood pressure without medication. I provide specific nutrient and mineral deficiencies to consider. Additionally, HeartMath® breathing techniques and LifeWave’s light therapy patches support heart health.

It’s important to understand cholesterol beyond the traditional simplified labs that measure HDL, LDL, and the ratio between the two. In this episode, we take a deep dive into cholesterol and its role in healthy hormone production for peri and menopausal women.

I introduce ApoB, which is an important marker if you have high LDL. ApoBis a protein that plays a crucial role in lipid metabolism and cardiovascular health. If ApoB levels are too high, statins may be prescribed. Stains block an enzyme in the liver called Coenzyme Q10. I then review the many potential and likely side effects of statins, again encouraging lifestyle shifts as an alternative.

Lastly, I give my top tip for what to address first for heart disease or metabolic chaos and then wrap up with my three-part framework for a heart healthy lifestyle.

A heartfelt thanks to listener cocofrosty7, who left the show a glowing review of Vitally You®: “Trailblazer in wellness, always ahead of the curve when it comes to wellness, and thought-provoking wisdom and guidance.” Your review is deeply appreciated, cocofrosty7, and all reviews as they help keep the podcast going.

11 Sep 2024Bio-Hacking Longevity with Deuterium-Depleted Water, CEO and Founder of LiteWater, Victor Sagalovsky00:52:04

Humans are so full of water that we are like a walking ocean, but did you know that the water inside of us may be prematurely aging us too? Victor explains that this is because deuterium, a heavier form of hydrogen that has been proven to shorten lifespans, is found in most water. After researching deuterium’s effects for decades and visiting communities where people drinking water without deuterium enjoyed a longer lifespan, Victor concludes that deuterium is key to aging and should even be classified as a disease.

Those in the blue zone may encounter less deuterium, but it’s their daily longevity habits that supercharge their ability to ward off its effects. Because they feel safe, not stressed, and have a strong sense of belonging, their parasympathetic nervous system tends to be more activated. Victor offers fascinating insights into quantum entanglement, water as a universal consciousness, and the intelligence of this amazing substance. He sheds light on deuterium’s origin and how it came to play the role on earth that it does today. If you’re interested in naturally boosting your energy levels, don’t miss this episode.

30 Oct 202258. Aging with Passion, Permission, Purpose, Persistence, and Perseverance with Andrea Nakayama00:36:24

I am joined by Andrea Nakayama, an internationally-known Functional Medicine Nutritionist, educator, and speaker who is leading a movement to transform the health industry into a system that WORKS, empowering patients and practitioners alike with the systems and tools of Functional Nutrition.

Andrea is celebrated as a leader in the field of Functional Nutrition because of her unique ability to teach and inspire practitioners and patients alike. Andrea synthesizes art and science, empathy and physiology, intuition and problem solving, into a system that truly helps people get to the root cause of their illness, create a path towards wellness, and find their way back to life.

Andrea joins us to discuss the power of purpose with passion throughout the life cycle.

I started studying with functional nutritionist and lifestyle practitioner Andrea Nakayama in 2016, and I’m thrilled to have her on the show to share her framework and perspective on purpose. Andrea dives into ‘The 5 P’s’: passion, permission, purpose, persistence, and perseverance. She illustrates the interconnected nature of these five concepts and gives examples of how to implement them into your journey of feeling younger while growing older.

When it comes to purpose, there’s an effect called the positive psychological construct that has a profound effect on our mental health and cognition as we age. It can be challenging to look within and process the ebbs and flow of life. Andrea shares some helpful exercises that can support the practice of listening in without judgment and finding out what really lights you up.

Part of that process involves appreciating your past and stepping into the love that you deserve. We’re often taught to sacrifice our boundaries in order to please other people. We discuss examples of what that has looked like in our lives and how we choose to practice radical self-care instead. Listen in to hear more of Andrea’s wisdom on purpose and graciously taking care of yourself as you age.

28 Mar 202377. A Framework for Healing Fatigue00:29:33

Have you ever felt that unrelenting, bone-tired fatigue? Between healing from a parasitic infection, supporting my mom with her cancer diagnosis, and celebrating my daughter’s engagement, I have not felt this tired since 2017. Because I’ve experienced adrenal fatigue in the past, I want to share my framework and tips for getting back to a regulated, optimal state.

First and foremost, we have to look at the thoughts and beliefs that we have about our fatigue. It’s normal to resist it, feel shame about it, or just plain hate it. In my experience, once you start to express gratitude for your body and its internal messaging system, it creates a welcoming environment for healing.

In this episode, I highlight certain lifestyle and diet factors that tend to trigger adrenal fatigue, including poor sleep hygiene, nutrient deficiencies, and exercise patterns. I share simple steps that help address those factors and support your journey to feeling energized again.

Listen in to learn more about adrenal fatigue and how to heal from it.

19 Sep 202102. Sleep Health with Deepa Kannan00:34:57

Every individual is unique; the way we eat, how our brain functions, our likes, dislikes, and the way in which our body responds to specific medical treatments. Knowing your priorities and what works well with their body prior to embarking on seeking out medical treatment is a seemingly intuitive approach. However, our current healthcare system has not been designed to adequately support each individual and their unique needs. It uses a one-size-fits-all approach. This can lead to the worsening of one’s symptoms as well as the associated frustration of finding a diagnosis. Deepa Kaanan believes that there is an imminent need to individualize the patient-care model and she tackles this issue through her functional medicine company Phytothrive.

Deepa began her journey with her brand when she began to feel frustrated with her own health journey. Despite conducting lab work and speaking with several doctors, she was unable to find a diagnosis for her own ailments. This experience propelled her to become a champion for a more individualized and balanced approach to wellness. Deepa is renowned for her work in this field, and her articles have been shared by the father of functional medicine, Dr. Mark Hyman. Join us on this week’s episode as we speak to Deepa about her masterful understanding of human anatomy to offer true bio-individual mind, body, and spirit remedies.

24 Oct 2023Book Chat Series, Part 3 of 6, Love is the Most Powerful Medicine, "The Well-Lived Life, by Gladys McGarey, M.D.00:29:42

Thank you for joining me last week for Part 2 of my Six-Part Book Chat series. In this episode, we dive into Part 3 of the book where Gladys writes that love is more powerful than any medicine you can take. I share personal stories about love from my own upbringing and the greatest unconditional love story ever told. I end the episode with Gladys’ Love Yourself Into Healing visualization practice to give space for love to trickle in.

My “head start” in life wasn’t in a wealthy or influential family. It was in love. When I experienced a family crisis while a freshman in college, I still knew that I was loved and valued. Even in feelings of loneliness, the love remained. I share the greatest love story ever told, Jesus, as a true model of unconditional love and our connection to Divine Source energy.

Gladys writes that the power of love is undervalued and overlooked. Love has guided my own life, toward self-forgiveness and in release of rage. To illustrate the vibration of love, I tell Gladys’ story about the Carlsbad Caves and how one small light can dispel the darkness. Love is what can breathe life into any emotionally helpless situation.

I share Gladys’ Love Yourself Into Healing visualization practice in honor of embracing the journey toward love. There is transformation when we can get quiet, listen, and be compassionate with ourselves. This is where we have dominion and power.

04 Apr 2024How to Sleep Better and Optimize Your Health with Deepa Keenan, Author and Host of The Sleep Whisperer Podcast00:44:51

My friend and colleague Deepa Keenan joins me again on Vitally You® to share how to apply Ayurvedic principles that support rebalance in the body, especially during the perimenopause and menopause stages of life.

Deepa is a renowned Functional Nutrition and Lifestyle Practitioner, Ayurveda Practitioner, author, and yogini. She recently published her book, How to Sleep Better-The Miraculous 10-Step Protocol to Recharge Your Mind and Body, and although the book focuses on sleep hygiene, it covers how to support overall health and wellness using ancient healing modalities. In our conversation, Deepa provides a summary of Ayurveda and the Ayurvedic perspective on common symptoms of nervous system dysregulation and adrenal dysfunction.

One symptom that I know a lot of women over 40 experience is waking up between 2am and 4am. Deepa shares strategies to sleep deeply through the night, including increasing healthy fat intake and incorporating grounding rituals into your daily routine. She also expands on the Ayurvedic practice of abhyanga, also known as an oil massage, and why it’s such a powerful therapeutic tool for deep healing and optimal sleep.

Join me on this episode as we explore practical tools for improving energy throughout the day and increasing restoration at night, leading to homeostasis in the mind and body.
