Have you heard of this process called transfarmation? On this episode, we talk to photographer and filmmaker, Thomas Machowicz, about the We Animals Media short film he co-directed with Sabina Diethelm, called Transfarming Switzerland. This is a must-see heart-warming film that follows the journey of Sarah Heiligtag as she helps to carve a path for farmers in Switzerland, and beyond, to move from animal production to animal sanctuaries and veganic farms. Well, we’ve come to the end of 2020! Our merry podcast hosts Sweta, Jeanette, Steve, and Ana take some time to reflect on a year like no other. Words that are commonly used in our language can emphasize these norms, while the use of euphemisms can help to create a mental distance from any animal suffering. Shawn has worked in health policy for the last two decades.

We are sharing with you some highlights from past episodes of Veg Out where we talk all things holidays and how it relates to veganism.

We’re now fully into December and the holiday season, a time when people turn to baking for comfort, sharing and gifting. Toronto based vegan cookbook author Ally Lazare joins Barbi and Jeanette to talk about her latest book, Vegan Dessert Cookbook, as well as share tips and recipes for baking for the holidays, and baking.

In this episode, we sit down with food policy expert Michele Champagne to dive into the controversy surrounding Impossible Foods and the animal testing they conducted back in 2017. Michele helps us unpack what happened and whether the testing was required by law.

Be sure to join us in two weeks for the second part of this episode, as we share our thoughts on the issue, examine Impossible Foods' justification, and take a closer look at other companies that have been involved in similar situations.

We’re keeping the celebrations going! In Part 2 of our special 75th Anniversary episode, hosts Sweta and Steve dive into some of the early days of the TVA with guest Michele Brennan, who has been with the organization for many glorious years. The TVA may have an official office and Resource Centre now, but, true to its community ethos, its first and long-time office was actually in the home of the first president, Barbara Jackson. Listen on for more blasts-from-the-past, including how much the vegan and vegetarian restaurant scene here in the GTA has evolved over the past decades. We round out key moments in the organization’s history with updates about Bill 156 (which would essentially criminalize the act of investigating animal cruelty practices) and a new ice cream from Perfect Day (they make cow milk from bacteria – talk about innovative!), and of course, restaurant updates.
