28 Feb 2023 | Courting Scandal: The Royal Household & Jane Boleyn | 00:54:29
Jane Boleyn, sister-in-law of Queen Anne Boleyn and wife of George Boleyn, found herself embroiled in the dangerous politics of the Tudor court. Following the execution of George and Anne for treason in 1536, Jane managed to navigate the treacherous world of Tudor politics and maintain a position in each successive queen's household. However, her association with Katheryn Howard ultimately led to her downfall, and she was executed alongside the queen in 1542. Jane's story is a cautionary tale about the perils of power and ambition in the Tudor court. I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. James Taffe about his new book, Courting Scandal: The Rise and Fall of Jane Boleyn, Lady Rochford. During our conversation, we delved into the intricacies of the Tudor royal household and the role that Jane played in it. I learned so much from our discussion, and it gave me a greater appreciation for the fascinating and complex world of Tudor history. Commercial FREE for patrons! Love the Tudors? 03 Nov 2022 | Memoirs of the Court of Queen Elizabeth - Part Seven (Queens Series) | 00:10:35
This season I'll tell you the story written by Lucy Aikin (1781-1864) called Memoirs of the Court of Queen Elizabeth. If you are a fan of Elizabeth I then you'll appreciate this early 19th century (1818) sentiment. In our last episode, we left off with the commissioners finding Mary, Queen of Scots guilty. Their verdict was then delivered to Queen Elizabeth who then in a very clever way agreed to it, and Mary, Queen of Scots was executed. 24 Oct 2024 | Intrigue and Loyalty: Jane Boleyn and the Tudor Royal Household | 00:53:20
Today, we revisit my conversation with Dr. James Taffe on the endlessly intriguing Jane Boleyn, Lady Rochford. After the execution of her husband, George Boleyn, and sister-in-law Anne in 1536, Jane skillfully navigated the dangerous waters of Tudor politics, securing a place in the households of each successive queen. But her involvement with Queen Katheryn Howard ultimately sealed her fate, leading to their executions in 1542. Jane’s life serves as a cautionary tale of the dangerous dance between power, loyalty, and ambition in the Tudor court. 20 Oct 2022 | Memoirs of the Court of Queen Elizabeth - Part Five (Queens Series) | 00:09:05
This season I'll tell you the story written by Lucy Aikin (1781-1864) called Memoirs of the Court of Queen Elizabeth. If you are a fan of Elizabeth I then you'll appreciate this early 19th century (1818) sentiment. In this episode, we will jump forward a little in time to the year 1573. By now, Mary, Queen of Scots, had married and buried Lord Darnley, and she had also married Lord Bothwell and abdicated her throne. At this point, Mary had already been Elizabeth's prisoner for years. They would number 19 in all, but at this point, it was still early on. So let's look at what the 19th-century observer had to say about Elizabeth's reaction to the Scottish queen and her favorite's trouble with Lady Sheffield. This season I'll tell you the story written by Lucy Aikin (1781-1864) called Memoirs of the Court of Queen Elizabeth. In this episode, we will jump forward a little to the 1580s to see how the 19c observer portrayed Elizabeth as she aged. We see her reaction to her ladies wanting to marry, and when those nearest displeased her, we hear her response. We also see more of Elizabeth and Dudley's relationship, how he once again was lavished with power as the Queen's favorite, and how she behaved after jealousy set in.
