Last week we revealed that 14th Circuit Judge Carmen Mullen — who has been a key figure in the Murdaugh world — tried to create a crime and orchestrate the arrest of a man with psychiatric vulnerabilities in her neighborhood five years ago. 19-year-old Bowen Turner is accused of raping three women between 2018-2019. One of those victims, Dallas Stoller, died in November of 2021. Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell have great news to share … (00:52) Lee Gilley — the Houston man accused of strangling his wife, killing her and their unborn baby — has been officially indicted by the Grand Jury. This is a big deal — especially considering he’s yet another man with resources who seems to think he can buy his way out of consequence with a pricey defense team that includes the likes of Robert Durst’s attorney, Dick DeGuerin, and maybe even an image consultant, based on his public behavior as of late.  Also on the show, Mandy and Liz take listeners on their first deep dive into the killing of (11:15) Scott Spivey of Tabor City, North Carolina. Thirty-three-year-old Scott was shot to death in a hail of bullets in September 2023 on a rural highway in Horry County, South Carolina. His shooters were never charged in his death and the case was closed in April 2024. But now the FBI has been asked to take a look at the evidence and the No. 2 officer at Horry County Police Department — a good friend of one of the shooters — is under criminal investigation.  And yes, that’s the same police department that let Mica Francis down time and again in the lead-up to her death … when she reported multiple times that she was being stalked by her estranged husband, “Pastor” John-Paul Miller in Myrtle Beach. Hakeem Pinckney was an inspiration. He spent his whole life overcoming the odds.  His hearing started deteriorating at a young age, but he never complained. In fact, he won a national championship in football when he was a senior at the SC School for the Deaf and Blind.  But when he was 19, he was in a horrific crash with three other family members that forever changed his life. For Hakeem, the injuries would leave him a quadriplegic dependent on a ventilator. In 2010, Alex Murdaugh, Corey Fleming and Palmetto State Bank's CEO Russell Lafitte began representing passengers of the vehicle accident, including Hakeem who was paralyzed but aware. But he persevered. His mother Pamela told us that he was improving before he died suddenly in 2011.  10 years later, Pamela learns that Murdaugh allegedly stole insurance money from the Pinckney family after the accident, and again from Hakeem's wrongful death settlement against his care facility after his ventilator was mysteriously "unplugged". Now that Alex Murdaugh has been convicted in the murders of his wife and son, it’s time to take a look back on all the pieces that had to come together for the jury to deliver that guilty verdict. A motion filed last week by John T. Lay and Peter M. McCoy Jr. — the two attorneys who were appointed as co-receivers in November 2021 to tally Murdaugh’s assets — revealed even more shocking and unheard of banking practices at Palmetto State Bank. Nearly three months after his wife and son were murdered, Alex Murdaugh called 911 to report that he himself had been shot Saturday, September 4th, 2021. His attorney told the press that he Alex was pulled over to repair his vehicle along Salkehatchie Road in Hampton County en route to Charleston when a motorist opened fire toward Murdaugh's 2021 Mercedes SUV.
