Ms. Streep gets a guy who terrorized Ryan Gosling in DRIVE and also made an appearance on THE SIMPSONS. She loses but we all win and can only hope that Rip Torn defends us in the in-between place.

The Third Part in our On the Road with Ladies of Vengeance trilogy.

You can't go wrong with Charlize Theron driving your movie. Unfortunately the prequel to MAD MAX: FURY ROAD does not take the above advice and while we wouldn't dare to advise the great George Miller on his filmmaking sequel choices (BABE: PIG IN THE CITY good and HAPPY FEET TWO not so much) we do hope that Nicholas Hoult can convey his great performance as a likable bald villain into playing Lex Luthor. And there's your one reference to comic book movies that ALL pale in comparison to an action movie that will referenced and spoke of with great reverence decades from now.

Two Guys Who Love SIDEWAYS But Not Wine

No expertise to be had on this episode for Alexander Payne's SIDEWAYS. Oh sure, both your hosts have revisited this film many times. One of them fondly remembers experiencing its charms while eating a frozen pizza. So it shouldn't surprise any of you that neither man on this podcast is a wine snob. Or even drinks the stuff.

The Truman Show is depressing.

Peter Dinklage and Patricia Clarkson don't contribute much to Bobby Cannavale's one man show of dialogue... which would normally set off two guys whose friendship is based on talking at great length BUT NO MATTER! This film is CHARMING and more importantly is the classic Mr. McCarthy wishes SPOTLIGHT could be!

We never promised to break new ground on TRILOGY IN THEORY... which means we are very comfortable with a theme on directors repeating prior works in their filmography with a trilogy of CLERKS 2, DRAG ME TO HELL and BOYHOOD. Kevin Smith, Sam Raimi and Richard Linklater had no fear of proper critics taking them to task for running out of ideas... but it's safe to say they didn't expect this podcast to hold them accountable.

In which we conclude that GET SHORTY is the end of cinema.

Woody Allen is a controversial figure in film... but also has had a professional life of much critical acclaim.

Quentin Tarantino may have a bit of an ego in that massive head of his. And with good reason! He also has lived the life of a critical darling since arriving on the scene with RESERVOIR DOGS.

So when you have a trilogy on a love of movies brought to life that includes Allen's THE PURPLE ROSE OF CAIRO and Tarantino's INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS there is only one conclusion you can make.

That Barry Sonnenfeld's GET SHORTY is the only film worth discussing. This is the end of Trilogy in Theory. Good night.

One man faces down forty by watching CRUEL INTENTIONS for the first time. Then he moved on to the audio commentary track (which required finding a used DVD) AND THEN this man moved on to CRUEL INTENTIONS 2.

Which was just a series of unaired television episodes continuing this porny universe starring a young Amy Adams. Still not satisfied he moves to a actual porn with a terribly titled adult film parody of this Sarah Michelle Gellar and Reese Witherspoon classic.

Research was done. The other host just keeps bringing up Selma Blair in HELLBOY. Enjoy!

The Second Part in our On the Road with Ladies of Vengeance trilogy.

On the road with a backtracking Quentin Tarantino...for he apologized for his half of the failed GRINDHOUSE double feature BUT WE DON'T. After suffering through an hour of PLANET TERROR we loved nothing more than taking a ride with Zoë Bell (as The Great Zoë Bell, of course) and the second group of our vengeful ladies. This time their eyes are set on the villainous Stuntman Mike as played by Kurt Russell but we look more to acclaimed filmmakers dealing with failure and how that quest for a perfect filmography limits the conversation on experimentation.

Is this episode our DEATH PROOF? We certainly hope so.

Ae winter holidays for an episode wondering why we can not be happy.

What began with a Thanksgiving feast Paul Newman's old beautiful blue eyes filled with youthful glee at his pranks in NOBODY's FOOL turned to Sam Raimi decidedly not having fun in the new year with his crime gone wrong in A SIMPLE PLAN.
