Travel Like a Boss (Johnny FD)

How do you manage an online business without electricity or internet?  This week's episode was recorded off line on battery power while relaxing on a beautiful remote island in Cambodia.  Joining me this week is Katrina Kincaid from West Virginia.  We discuss why Cambodia is an incredible country to travel, the ruins of Angkor Wat and why Koh Rong may be my favorite island in the world.  

Katrina worked as a writer for two popular American sitcoms before quitting her job to teach English in Korea.  Johnny talks about how he manages to keep his online business going with limited electricity and internet access and the power of outsourcing, automation and hiring employees.  

This week I sit down with my good friend, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Blackbelt, host of The Journey Podcast and founder for the Jiu-Jitsu Brotherhood Nicolas Gregoriades. We talk about why he gave up his six pack abs, our views on fitness, yoga and the paleo diet as well as how going from making zero to $1,000 has given us a ton of happiness, but making $100,000 might not have the same effect.  This is a great interview that starts with a touch of business but then dives deep into what happiness is, and even what the ideal workout program for most people.

Ben Finnigan had to rebook his plane ticket three times, broke his leg, had to overcome lyme disease, and dug his way out of debt to just to make it out to Thailand. Drop Shipping in Australia has been a bit elusive as it's still the wild west down under. I've always assumed that it's a big enough, westernized country for it to work, and the fact that Amazon is still only selling books there reminds me of what ecommerce was like 15 years ago in the U.S. However, since I'm not Australian all I had to go by was was people on random forums on the internet had to say, and they all said it didn't work. Common reasons why dropshipping didn't work in Australia included not being able to find enough suppliers, the suppliers they found not dropshipping, and shipping being too expensive to make it work.

When I bumped into Jose & Sherica here at the coworking space in Chiang Mai and found out they were running a successful dropshipping store based in Australia, I had to have them on the show and pick their brain with all of the hard questions. They talked about why Jose's first store failed when they tried to do it on their own, and how Anton's course (www.AntonMethod.com) finally helped them make their second store a success.  I asked them what challenges they had as an Australian vs. if it would have been easier as an American starting a U.S. based store, about their competitors, how they found suppliers, and how they deal with shipping costs.

We got turned away last minute while boarding our original flight to Taiwan, luckily, it gave us an excuse to check out Bangkok's coworking spaces while waiting for Larissa to get her visa approved. Turned out that South African's can't just show up in Taiwan like Americans can, oops! Lesson learned!
