09 Sep 2024 | The Highly Sensitive Person and Sensory Processing Dis-Order | 00:51:28
For highly sensitive people (HSPs), the intensity of the world often feels magnified. Their heightened sensitivity makes them highly empathetic and deeply attuned to others' emotions. This allows them to form meaningful, compassionate connections. However, it can also lead to overwhelm. Everyday stimuli—like sounds, touch, smells, textures, and colors—can be particularly dysregulating for HSPs. This is why understanding where we fall on the sensitivity spectrum is crucial. By recognizing how we process sensory input, we can learn to regulate our experiences and harness our gifts, rather than suppressing them for the sake of coping. In today’s episode, hosts Elisabeth and Jennifer discuss the subjectivity of sensory experiences—how they're shaped, how they influence our overall health, and why two people can experience the same environment very differently. They also introduce NSI tools, which help manage overwhelm when sensory input becomes too intense. Finally, Elisabeth and Jennifer explore the behaviors that arise from sensory mismatches, and how high sensitivity influences these responses. While high sensitivity may feel both like a gift and a curse, at Trauma Rewired, we believe it can be transformed into a powerful asset. With NSI tools, anyone can expand their capacity for life and share their unique gifts with the world—free from shame or discomfort. Tune in to learn more about how you can harness your sensitivity and live more fully.

19 Aug 2024 | Autism & NeuroSomatic Intelligence | 00:48:13
There is a staggering number of adults with ADHD, autism, and neurodivergence, who have yet to be diagnosed. Even in the age of information, many adults don’t realize they are wired differently until their children are diagnosed. This can create all sorts of issues in the nervous system for these folks, by suppressing, repressing, masking their true selves, and feelings of inadequacy can take a toll. This is why a diagnosis is so important when it comes to these types of disorders, because once we can name and identify what is going on in our mind and body, we can learn how to work with our unique wiring and turn what once felt like a burden into a gift. On today’s episode, our hosts Elisabeth and Jennifer are joined by clinical psychologist, researcher, and writer, Dr. Megan Anna Neff. They discuss neurodivergence, autism, ADHD, and its intricacies in children, adults, and the power of a diagnosis. They also discuss how these disorders can be easily masked, hidden behind feelings of inadequacy and unworthiness, and there is an eye opening discussion about how neurodivergence is complex trauma. We are just learning about how prevalent these disorders are, and how diagnosing them can be a challenge, especially in certain groups of people who have become really skilled at masking their symptoms. This is why these discussions are so important, especially with an expert like Dr. Megan Anna Neff, so we can understand ourselves and others on a deeper level and without judgment. 21 Jun 2022 | ACE scores and your health across your lifetime | 00:48:00
Did you know you can measure your life expectancy by taking a short quiz about childhood experiences? Depending on the score, your lifespan either increases or decreases by 20 years! Advances in science have found a link between Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE), and poor physical and mental health later in life. This distinction has been difficult to prove, but thanks to Dr. Vincent Filetti’s dedication to studying this phenomenon, we can make a correlation between traumatic events from our past and chronic illnesses that manifest in adulthood. In this episode, Neurosomatic Intelligence Coach, Jennifer Wallace, and Elisabeth Kristoff from Brain Based Wellness, discuss the link between childhood trauma and illness later in life in hopes of shedding light on how trauma stored in the body can cause, sometimes fatal, health issues. In this conversation, Jennifer and Elisabeth recount their own ACE scores and how it has affected their health and lives as a whole, as well as tools based in applied neurology to allow for self-regulation to help heal trauma stored in the body.
These adverse childhood experiences change the physiology of the body and mind which lead to higher risk of obesity, addiction, and other harmful maladaptive behaviors that are bad for overall health, and lower life expectancy.
When we understand the root causes of our health issues, we are more equipped in finding solutions and tools to help heal ourselves once and for all. Tools that are discussed in this episode have been proven to help not only Jennifer and Elisaeth in their healing, but many others who have used applied neurology for their benefit. 28 Jun 2022 | Fawn the Trauma Response | 00:40:36
In this episode we will be discussing the least understood, and most insidious four F’s in trauma response, fawn. This survival adaptation is difficult to pinpoint, because fawn can often be confused with empathy or general care, but if not dealt with, can get to a toxic level for the fawner. Neglecting yourself for the sake of others can cause chronic issues, not only in the body, but in creating genuine connections as well. The missing piece to overcoming fawn is to first identify it, then to gain tools to regulate the nervous system to create safety in the body. However, the tools are difficult to implement when you are unaware of the trauma response in the first place. Neurosomatic Intelligence Coach, Jennifer Wallace and Elisabeth Kristoff from Brain-Based Wellness, uncover what fawn looks like and how it may show up in your life. Along with practical tools to regulate the nervous system in situations where fawning was the automatic response, and how to override that with an intentional one. Finding safety in your own body IS possible and so is living authentically. Listen in for more info! Topics discussed in this episode:

22 Jan 2024 | Stress Response In Relationship | 00:54:44
This week on Trauma Rewired, hosts Jennifer and Elisabeth welcome back Matt Bush of Next Level Neuro to explore the physiology of stress and the transformative power of neurosomatic intelligence. We know that connection is crucial to our survival as humans, but for those with complex trauma, even the healthiest relationships can trigger a stress response and lead to maladaptive behaviors. This episode provides a comprehensive look at how stress impacts our relationships and physical health, and highlights the importance of consistent nervous system training to rewire the brain’s response to stress and build resilience. The conversion starts by examining what happens in the brain when a stress response is activated, and how developmental trauma shapes our nervous system and subconscious reactions as adults. Matt breaks down complex neurological processes, covering the role of the HPA axis, immune dysregulation and increased inflammation. Jennifer also introduces a new concept, called “shameflammation,” as they delve into the connection between chronic stress and disease in the body. Listen to this episode to learn more about stress response in relationships and how you can retrain it through NSI! Topics discussed in this episode:

In the first short episode detailing Jennifer’s ayahuasca experience, she shared her intentions for healing. In this next installment, you’ll hear her firsthand account of how she, with help from two shamans, was able to retrieve her soul and restore a feeling of safety.
After drinking the ayahuasca tea and being enveloped in the impassioned sounds of Maestros Maricella and Francisco singing icaros, Jennifer was able to find parts of her that were lost through her life’s trauma.
Jennifer describes being back in the maloka for a second night, once again feeling connected to the universe through vibrant visions of herself and nature. The magic of the ayahuasca medicine, combined with the progress made on the first night, allowed her to process deeper emotions and finally reach a place of self-love.

Trauma Rewired: The Science of Applied Neurology Season 02, Episode 05
The same tools you use to rehabilitate your knee can also be applied to decreasing anxiety. Our bodies are incredibly intelligent machines wired to keep us alive and thriving, but what if that same wiring that is there to protect us, works against us in ways we aren’t aware of? In the same breath, what if that same knowledge is the key to, not only our healing, but our acceleration as physical and intelligent beings. This is what our guest on today’s episode is here to discuss:
Internationally recognized teacher of Applied Neurology, co-founder of Next Level Neuro, and part creator of Neurosomatic Intelligence Coaching, Matt Bush is joining us on today’s podcast to discuss his techniques used in Applied Neurology to heal the mind and body for optimal performance. Matt’s innovative approach to healing has proven successful in treating issues such as scoliosis, chronic pain, long COVID, and anxiety, by focusing on the nervous system, specifically vision, as treatment. Matt’s methods are based heavily in science, however require little to no equipment. He puts his trust in the body’s intelligence in healing itself through simple exercises that could ultimately be life changing for many.
It’s time to move out of survival mode and create an above average life, because average does not have to be the baseline, excelling above is the goal and that’s what applied neurology teaches us.
Listen in for a fresh take on healing and information on how you could also become a Neurosomatic Intelligence Coach!

01 Jan 2024 | Complex Trauma Impacts Brain Development | 00:58:09
“Impaired integration is such a hallmark of the traumatized brain. It disrupts our ability to balance our nervous system. Neurobiologist Dan Siegel says that at its very essence, the purpose of trauma therapy is to restore brain integration.”
On today’s episode, co-hosts Jennifer Wallace and Elisabeth Kristoff of Brain-Based Wellness discuss the neurological impacts of trauma, specifically how disassociation and fragmentation affect our brain integration. They’re joined by Matt Bush of Next Level Neuro and co-founder of the Neuro-Somatic Intelligence Coaching Certification Program.
Expect to understand more about how early childhood trauma results in brain dysfunction, shapes our basic functioning and filtration systems, and can overpower the cognitive mind. You’ll also learn what reintegrating memories actually means, and why integration is the key to healing.
Trauma Rewired has mentioned many times that without integration, long-lasting change is difficult, but without the survival brain and emotional brain working together, integration, specifically vertical integration, is impossible. This may sound overwhelming, but the good news change IS possible because of neuroplasticity.
If you want a deep understanding of vertical integration and how trauma affects the developing brain, tune in to learn more!

25 Sep 2023 | Narcissism | 00:40:42
What’s the difference between possessing narcissistic traits and being a narcissist? Can we say narcissistic personality disorder is real when we don’t believe in personalities? How does narcissism develop, and what does it look like in the brain? Tune in as your hosts answer all these questions and more with Matt Bush of Neuro-Somatic Intelligence. This episode explores the neurology of narcissism, the spectrum of narcissism, and how narcissism can evolve as a survival response when it seems so counterintuitive to our social need for connection. Matt is an expert in applied neurology, so he shares the science of what narcissism looks like in the brain, such as where deficits exist in the brain and how they reflect in a narcissist's emotional skills and empathy towards others. Jennifer, Elisabeth and Matt also discuss malignant narcissism, narcissistic attachment, and the allure of a codependent or empathic person for a narcissist. Most importantly, they discuss if change is possible for narcissists and how you can protect yourself from a narcissist. 04 Dec 2023 | Attachment is the Root of Complex Trauma | 00:52:25
Our last episode introduced the brain as a social organ, and how this topic relates to the neurobiology of relationships. Today, we dive deeper into how the brain develops through social interactions, why social connection is a survival need, and what happens in the body when we experience connection with other people.
Matt Bush is joining Jennifer and Elisabeth to discuss the impact of trauma on the brain’s functioning, and therefore, our relationships, expression, sense of safety, and overall health. They talk about what happens when you’re not primed for connection in childhood, how the brain is wired to be part of the social structure in relationships, what part of the brain guides us toward dysregulation and protective outputs, and lots more.
If any of this sounds confusing, be sure to listen for Matt’s definitions of attachment schema and C-PTSD from a neurosomatic perspective, which make it easier to understand how these systems and inputs come together for integration.
You’ll also finally learn why complex trauma is an attachment would, and most importantly, that change is possible and how you can get started NOW. Tune in for all this and more!

13 May 2024 | Self Abandonment of Complex Post Traumatic Stress | 00:50:40
The essence of who we are radiates when we live in our purpose. When we can connect with our true self and share it with others. There are many blockers stopping us from being able to express our feelings, or even know what we’re experiencing, and one of them is self abandonment.
Don’t let the “self” fool you — sometimes, we unintentionally abandon ourselves because of the survival responses born as a result of trauma. Until healing begins, we can get stuck living through learned patterns of ignoring our own needs in favor of others around us, suppressing feelings to protect ourselves from the neglect of others, and rejecting our intuition.
Trauma Rewired host, Jennifer, and Elisabeth Kristof of Brain-Based Wellness are finishing the CPTSD series by discussing this final component of CPTSD: self abandonment. They talk about the ways we abandon ourselves through the lens of their own experiences, and how it manifests in a cycle of self-abuse and shame.
If you find yourself disregarding your own health and happiness, tune in to understand this component of CPTSD and how healing is possible!

25 Nov 2024 | Attachment, Relational Stress, and Rewiring Complex Trauma | 01:02:20
What happens in the brain when a stress response is activated ? How does developmental trauma shapes our nervous system and subconscious reactions as adults?
Today, we're answering those questions and diving deeper into how the brain develops through social interactions, why social connection is a survival need, and what happens in the body when we experience connection with other people.
In this episode we delve into the intricate relationships between high ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences) scores, developmental trauma, and their lifelong impacts on individuals' stress levels and physical health. The conversation highlights the critical role of early childhood experiences, particularly the bond with caregivers, in shaping one's ability to manage stress and form healthy relationships.
You’ll also learn why complex trauma is an attachment would, and most importantly, that change is possible and how you can get started NOW. Tune in for all this and more!
We discuss chronic inflammation and its connection to social threats and shame, noting that these emotional stressors can trigger physical responses.

14 Jun 2022 | How Trauma Lives in the Body | 00:39:44
Trauma Rewired: How Trauma Lives In The Body Season 02, Episode 02] There is a fundamental key to healing trauma that is often overlooked, but crucial to move from survival mode to a balanced fulfilling life. That is, understanding that our bodies have a highly intellectual memory system that holds on to trauma for years. We focus so much on the mind, but neglect the intricacies of our physiology to heal traumas long term. Your mood, finances, intimacy, productivity, etc, are essentially dictated by your nervous system. A dysregulated nervous system caused by trauma can have detrimental effects on all areas of life, especially if negative coping mechanisms are involved.
In this episode, Jennifer Wallace sits down with the creator of Brain Based Wellness, Elisabeth Kristof, to discuss how applied neurology is the missing piece to understanding what trauma really is and how it affects our physical bodies on a scientific level, and in turn our outer world. Jennifer and Elisabeth recount their own experiences in healing from trauma using applied neurology. Intellectually understanding your trauma is not enough, there is an extra layer that we must pay attention to before we can fully heal. Through consistent, healthy, nervous system regulation practices and exercises, mentioned in today’s episode, healing IS possible. Listen in for more information.

27 Feb 2023 | Grief, Shame, and Your Nervous System | 01:00:08
In our first episode on emotional repression, we discussed how trauma can cause repressive behaviors and why emotional expression is necessary to living a healthy life. Today, we’re concluding the conversation by addressing two emotions that impedes the healing process: grief and shame.
Matt Bush of Next Level Neuro is back to continue the discussion with hosts Jennifer Wallace and Elisabeth Kristof. To showcase the effects of grief on the nervous system, they all give examples of client experiences with repressed emotions and their own grief practices.
Despite our innate need to express emotions and have connections with other human beings, expressing even positive emotions can be difficult. By the end of this episode, you’ll understand why positive emotions are so threatening to the nervous system and why minimum effective dose may be the key to healing.
Listen in to learn about how to work through shame, the healing power of nature, and finding safety in emotional expression!

20 May 2024 | Healing Dissociation | 00:55:07
“You can’t be present and dissociated at the same time.” This is a powerful conversation highlighting what goes on in the brain and nervous system when we dissociate, and how this protective mechanism can become maladaptive when its original function no longer serves us. There is a way to overcome dissociation and authentically feel emotions in the body to truly heal. In this episode, Elisabeth Kristoff and Jennifer Wallace deep dive into dissociation and its characteristics. The discussion begins with defining what dissociation is and how it is learned at an early age as a protective mechanism, followed by unraveling how dissociation shows up in the brain, specifically which brain structures are involved in disassociation, as well as the connection between the vagus nerve and the interoceptive system as it pertains to dissociation. 07 Aug 2023 | Continuity of Parts | 00:51:19
Following our episode on embodiment, we’re diving into the topics of parts of self, sex and pleasure because without presence, we are cheating ourselves out of healthy relationships and empowered sexual experiences. Hosts Jennifer and Elisabeth have brought back Dr. Joli Hamilton, relationship coach and sex educator, to help them further examine how the relationship with our parts of self impact the way we behave towards ourselves and others.
A disconnection between our parts of self causes dysregulation, a lack of safety and intimacy in relationships, and even projection. But in this episode, you’ll learn how to have conversations with your parts of self, how to take ownership of your orgasm, and how NSI practices can help you heal.
We also discuss the concept of multiplicity, how trauma affects our ability to connect with our parts, and if dissociation during sex and sexual fawning changes the rules of consent. Plus, can a cervical orgasm stimulate the vagus nerve?
Listen in as we share the NSI tools that have helped us regulate our nervous system and connect with our body!

13 Dec 2022 | Belief Rewire: Our Gift to You | 00:34:02
From last week’s episode on perfectionism to topics like CPTSD elements or intuition, Trauma Rewired has discussed numerous issues that result from trauma. You’ve heard a lot about the nervous system and how important it is to regulate it, but how exactly do you do that?
During this first installment of a three-part series on core beliefs, you’ll learn how to deconstruct the beliefs that drive your harmful behaviors and create a loop of dysregulation. For example, Elisabeth shares her holiday-related anxiety that is leading to trauma responses like perfectionism; and Jennifer helps her trace back these beliefs and rewire the nervous system — just like they would any client.
In the spirit of the holiday season, Jennifer and Elisabeth will also be sharing two neuro drills that can bring you to a feeling of safety when in a state of high stress and dysregulation. This will enable you to challenge the beliefs that have a negative impact on your health and healing.
Change becomes possible when your brain and nervous system are on the same page, and listening to this episode will help get you there!

02 Oct 2023 | Empathy and the Nervous System | 00:40:09
Last week, Trauma Rewired explored the neurology of narcissism, so this week we’re focusing on empathy. Matt Bush, co-lead educator of the Neuro Somatic Intelligence Training, is back on the show to help us dive deeper into why some people are highly empathic and how they can protect themselves from its overwhelming effects. Believe it or not, empaths and narcissists have foundational similarities. Not only does the brain chemistry look the same, but empaths and narcissists both struggle with nervous system regulation and look to others to help them regulate their emotions. But whereas the narcissist avoids the emotions of others, empaths are deeply affected and have a physiological experience to the emotions of others on a subconscious level. This can lead to emotional fatigue, chronic stress, poor sense of self and more. So what’s the difference between having empathy and being an empath, and how can you change subconscious behavior? In this episode, Elisabeth, Jennifer and Matt cover the signs of being an empath, the causes of elevated empathy, such as deficits in the interoceptive system, and how it impacts our overall health. If you identify as an empath, tune in to learn about the power of nervous system regulation for changing harmful empath behavior! Topics discussed in this episode:

The holidays can be a magical time full of celebrations and connection, but they can also evoke feelings of loneliness and overwhelm — especially for those with a history of trauma. This duality of emotions can be hard to navigate, so this episode of Trauma Rewired explores the complex emotions that many experience during this time and strategies to manage them without falling back to harmful behaviors. The conversation begins by revisiting the concept of neurotags to illustrate how simple sensory inputs like sounds or smells can trigger emotional and physical responses linked to past traumas. Then, we delve into the impact of family dynamics, societal pressures, internal and external expectations, highlighting the importance of self-care and boundary setting. Hosts Jennifer and Elisabeth also share their personal experiences with holiday-related trauma and reflect on their coping mechanisms that have evolved from maladaptive to healthy over time. As you listen to their insights, you’ll learn tools and strategies to regulate your nervous system, honor your body, and manage expectations amidst the festive chaos. Resources From This Episode: Mederi Center - Holistic Health & Healing, Patient Care, Research, Education Texas Original Compassionate Cultivation ︱Medical Marajuana Breast Cancer Resource Center of Texas is an incredible local organization that is here to help. Whether you need rides, housework done, financial help, or emotional support ~ they’re incredible and understand. There’s a lot of grants and financial assistance out there if you need it! They can help you navigate through ALL and ANY of this! https://bcrc.org https://www.instagram.com/bcrcoftx/ HERBAL TEA MIXTURE: 3 parts
After you buy the herbs just go on and blend them together in a jar, mix them up, and then just scoop out what you need as you fill the loose tea into the large metal tea infuser. I buy all of my herbs at The Herb Bar on Mary St off of S Congress, they also sell Chaga Mushrooms as a tea and that’s also great! Brew it long & brew it strong! In a crockpot on low for 7hrs + I find is the best way
Either one. Marshmallow Root is a Slippery Elm. This is a cold brew. 1TBSP : Quart (mason jar) filled with distilled water and kept for 24 hrs in the fridge. Drain & store. Slippery Elm is kind of mucusy for lack of a better word and it looks weird but it’s fine, strain it after 24 hrs. III. To Drink Mix them 50/50 or 75 mix/25 elm - they are both super beneficial and I wouldn’t worry too much about the balance. Serve warm. Drink as much as you want. It’s such a great kidney flush and if you’re experiencing any UTI like symptoms it will clear it right up. It’s kind of dry but you can add Stevia or Honey to take care of that. BONE BROTH This is such an awesome way to get nutrients when you don’t feel like eating and it will really help to get your vitamins and minerals. I loosely follow Dave Aspreys recipe. You can get Grass Fed Beef Marrow Bones from most any Farmers Market. Richardson Farms takes orders and you can collect from Barton. 10lbs will make 3 - 4 batches. It goes a long way. If available I will also add chicken feet, egg shells from past eggs I’ve eaten. I keep them in the freezer, knuckles ~ really whatever goodness I can find at the market. And vegetables only for the last 12 hrs. IT seems like a lot but it’s pretty easy. After I warm it to serve I always add sea salt, pepper, cayenne, ginger, turmeric. Yum! It will definitely need salt, other than that flavor it however you like. If you have any problems finding the recipe then let me know. If you take HERCEPTIN as one of your drugs ~ You must consume OLIVE OIL and OLIVES. IT helps the Herceptin to work better. Water Water is so vital and with everything you hear nowadays I have taken an extra precaution and installed filtered water that is all throughout the house - including laundry, shower, and bidet! There’s also a PH tap at the sink to get high alkaline water. SUPPLEMENTS/NUTRITION When I first got diagnosed I went to see an Integrative Wellness Coach, Carl Schmidt at Lake Hills Pharmacy, he was very knowledgeable about Cancer in general and got me onto various supplements; Paw Paw & Methyl Folate were crucial. There’s great, short YouTube videos about Paw Paw and how it works to fight cancer cells. It was so hard for me to eat veggies and drink my green drink and all the “healthy” stuff while on chemo and I got to the point where I was too tired to grocery shop, cook, clean, and eat. Ask for help! People want to help you and you have to stay nourished. If you take HERCEPTIN as one of your drugs ~ You must consume OLIVE OIL and OLIVES. It helps the Herceptin to work better. I worked alongside the Mederi Foundation in Oregon - there’s a lot of info online. They had access to all of my info; blood work, tests, etc. and they sent tonics and all sorts and that’s how I got the recipe for the tea. MIND/BODY ~ SPIRITUAL HEALTH This is a really important time to look after your spiritual and mental health. This is tough and it sucks. You’ve got to come to terms with the fact that you are down - and that’s not easy. While you’re laying down listen to something inspirational or calming, meditating, etc., whatever suits you. It’s better than drowning in crappy tv and having that vibration bring you down. I recommend Deepak Chopra Soul of Healing Affirmations, The Secret of Healing both on iTunes and it's so awesome to listen to. The Soul of Healing is also a book and a DVD; it’s really incredible. Abraham Hicks is also great to listen to. I think it’s important to reaffirm that you can do this! Don’t ever refer to the cancer as “my”. Do not own it. It’s here and you have to recognize that but that’s not what you are and that’s not how you should own it. You’ll get so much literature and books, etc. Read when you can but don’t overwhelm yourself and don’t look at the word cancer in various forms all over the house. Know what I mean? https://open.spotify.com/album/3rpDTnXBdaciYySxV1ElyH?si=1IvS7Z0WS3CCFQxjnq2BJg&dl_branch=1 Soul of healing Affirmations https://open.spotify.com/album/71M7hkvO8USA2Qlagia2be?si=O1opisxaTs6VurW8wprEcg&dl_branch=1 Soul of Healing Meditations Chopra, Deepak. The Soul of Healing Affirmations Whatever you believe in - believe in it. Pray hard and pray strong. ACUPUNTURIST & HEALER I have an incredible acupuncturist and healer, her name is Rama Chittajallu and her number is 512.293.5388 I saw her for a couple of years before my diagnosis. She is a Reiki Master, Acupuncturist, and a Dr. Master of Chinese Medicine - this is a great addition and balance to the Western Medicine. PETS I had my dog registered as an Emotional Service Animal (ESA) She loves everyone and is just a really special beast and my bestie. She eases my anxiety SO much and truly is my xanax. It’s super easy to certify your pet online audit’s like $80. Trust me - if you’ve got a cool dog that goes everywhere with you, take it to the next level, you’ll love it!

12 Jul 2024 | Somatic Memory | 00:37:54
As humans we rely on visual memory the most, but what if we told you that memories, especially memories that were formed before we had language, live primarily in our bodies. It’s safe to say, the body keeps score, more than we know. It can be extremely dis-regulating to try to retrieve memories that live in the body without proper training because the visual aspect of the memory may not correlate to the sensations that show up in the body. This is why having awareness and training is so crucial to the healing process, which is what we will be discussing in today’s episode. In this episode, our hosts Elisabeth and Jennifer sit down to discuss how somatic memories are stored in the body and the science behind the whole process. Our hormones, cells, and epigenetics play a crucial role, and understanding how they store and express trauma through our thoughts, behaviors, and decisions, we can start to really heal on a deep level. Possibly even heal parts of ourselves we didn’t know needed healing. Just as our brain and body can be wired, they can also be rewired. Through our awareness and understanding, and by learning effective tools to dig deep and re-pattern those hidden parts of ourselves. Tune in to hear this and more!

02 Sep 2024 | ADHD, Burnout, and Development | 00:49:36
We live in an extremely overstimulating society, where information is coming at us from all angles, and the brain is constantly working to make sense of it all. As we continue to unravel and understand ADHD, we're beginning to see it not just as a disorder, but as an adaptive response to the world. With this perspective, we can work with ADHD more effectively and with greater empathy. In today’s episode, Elisabeth and Jennifer are joined by Neuro-Somatic Intelligence (NSI) Coach Mari Del Luna, who specializes in trauma resolution and works with neurodivergent individuals. This conversation is packed with insights to help you better understand ADHD from an NSI perspective and reframe how it is approached. They explore why ADHD is not actually a deficit in attention, the reasons behind burnout and fatigue in those with ADHD, effective tools for managing ADHD, and how addiction can be a behavioral response to an overstimulating world—plus much more. Our brains and bodies are designed to seek safety and regulation by adapting to an overstimulating society. If we can learn compassionate tools to process information more effectively in the context of ADHD, we have a chance to bring relief to a growing population of neurodivergent individuals. It all starts with reframing and changing our perspective, and that’s what we aim to help you with today. Tune in to hear this and more!

06 Jan 2025 | The Neurosomatics Of Habit Change | 00:50:18
It’s that time of year again when society collectively decides it’s time to level up and make meaningful changes in our lives. Whether the goal is to get in shape, eat healthier, limit doom-scrolling, improve finances, or simply be kinder to ourselves, it all boils down to rethinking and reshaping our daily habits. But completing another trip around the sun isn’t enough to magically transform us into a new or long-lost version of ourselves. To create real, lasting change, we must first understand why we’ve been doing things the way we have and expand our capacity to embrace change. In today’s episode, Elisabeth and Jennifer kick off the new year with a deep dive into the neurosomatics of habit change. They explore how our brains form patterns throughout our experiences, the role of beliefs and dopamine in shaping habits, and how to work with these elements to create sustainable transformation. They also discuss the concept of applying the minimum effective dose to habit changes and why celebrating small wins is essential to reinforcing progress. By understanding the roots of our current habits and allowing time and space for integration through repetition and self-regulation, we can create an environment that supports lasting change throughout the year—rather than burning out and rebounding to old patterns within weeks or months. If you're ready to transform your habits and create lasting positive change, don’t miss today’s episode. This is one conversation you won’t want to skip! Topics discussed in this episode:

07 Jun 2022 | Why Heal Your Nervous System | 00:30:32
What if I told you that 90% of your issues can be solved just by healing your nervous system? It sounds like a simple solution for the complexity of issues in our lives, but the reality is, most of life is navigated by our nervous system, and for people who have experienced trauma, this can have a range of negative consequences from digestion issues to trouble with intimacy in relationships.
In this episode, Jennifer Wallace sits down with the creator of Brain Based Wellness, Elisabeth Kristof, to discuss how to train the brain to heal the nervous system. By doing simple daily exercises, you can train the brain to elicit new behaviors or coping mechanisms that help regulate the nervous system to lower the stress response in the body. Traumatic experiences, if left untreated, can wreak havoc on the nervous system, causing dysregulation of the nervous system keeping you in a survival state. However, using Elisabeth Kristof’s Brain Based Wellness methods, you can move out of stress and anxiety by doing simple exercises every day that take less than 5 minutes. 03 Mar 2025 | Diagnosis and Shame | 00:47:13
Receiving a diagnosis can be a life-altering experience, especially when it triggers feelings of shame. Shame can create a whirlwind of emotions—unworthiness, failure, guilt, and loss—which compounds the stress of dealing with a diagnosis. These emotions form a toxic cycle that exacerbates the condition, leading to significant nervous system dysregulation. Often, it's difficult to pinpoint this dysregulation because of our innate resilience in survival mode. That's why it's crucial to bring shame into the conversation when discussing diagnoses, and create a dialogue around its impact. In today’s episode, Elisabeth and Jennifer are joined by Alexandra Harbushka, who has reclaimed her power after a herpes diagnosis and is actively breaking the stigma through her podcast Life With Herpes. Alexandra opens up about the deep despair she felt upon her diagnosis—the hopelessness, helplessness, and belief that she was unworthy of love. This dark cloud clouded her life until she made the conscious decision to change her mindset. By cultivating self-love and nervous system regulation, she was able to take control of her diagnosis and work through the shame attached to it. Elisabeth and Jennifer also share their personal journeys with mental health and cancer diagnoses, exploring how the emotional journey is similar regardless of the condition. They discuss the steps they took to confront their shame, regulate their nervous systems, and ultimately find empowerment. Shame wreaks havoc on both our nervous and immune systems. It keeps us hidden, isolated, and paralyzed. When you’re faced with something as daunting as a diagnosis, healing the shame around it can seem like an insurmountable task. But it's possible. By connecting with others, regulating our nervous systems, and expressing our emotions, we can shift our perception of a diagnosis from something to be ashamed of to something that can be embraced as a gift. This episode offers practical strategies for overcoming shame and regulating the nervous system in the face of a diagnosis. If this resonates with you, don’t miss it!

10 Jul 2023 | CPTSD is an Attachment Wound | 00:53:52
Our last episode introduced the brain as a social organ, and how this topic relates to the neurobiology of relationships. Today, we dive deeper into how the brain develops through social interactions, why social connection is a survival need, and what happens in the body when we experience connection with other people.
Matt Bush of Next Level Neuro is joining Jennifer and Elisabeth to discuss the impact of trauma on the brain’s functioning, and therefore, our relationships, expression, sense of safety, and overall health.

31 Jul 2023 | Embodiment is Scary AF | 00:47:44
Embodiment has many different meanings, but to be embodied from a neurosomatic intelligence perspective relates to the integration of the body, mind and spirit. It means you are aware of the connection between your body and its internal sensations, your emotions, and your behaviors.
Sharing her journey to embodiment and how she uses it in her work as a mindset coach is Tracy Litt, speaker and founder of The Litt Factor. Tracy is also a bestselling author and her new book, “Expander: For Trailblazing Women Building a New World,” outlines the damaging paradigms that hold us back and what we can do to replace them.
In this episode, Tracy helps us look at embodiment through the lens of neurosomatic intelligence, including how it impacts our relationships, career, and health. You’ll learn more about dissociation, what keeps us from feeling and being in our bodies, and how emotional expression will transform your life.
There is a natural fear to change and embodiment, but you have to remember that YOU are the creator of your own life. Tune in to find out how to start healing through nervous system work!

21 Oct 2024 | Sleep and Insomnia are Evidence of How Trauma and Attachment Impact the Nervous System | 00:46:51
In this episode, we delve into the profound connection between trauma, attachment wounds, and insomnia. We begin by discussing how secure attachments, particularly with family members like grandparents, can mitigate stress but their loss can trigger insomnia and other physical symptoms. Both hosts share personal anecdotes to highlight the pervasive impact of family disruptions and relational stressors on sleep patterns and mental health. The dialogue underscores how medical trauma exacerbates feelings of vulnerability and helplessness, often leading to severe insomnia. The hosts explore the complicated interplay between trauma-related HPA axis dysregulation and sleep cycles. Dysregulated cortisol levels, triggered by trauma, disrupt the natural circadian rhythm, leading to sleep issues such as frequent awakenings and trouble achieving deep sleep. Jennifer and Elisabeth emphasize that while general sleep hygiene recommendations—such as reducing screen time and exposure to natural light—are useful, they often fall short for trauma survivors. For this group, insomnia is connected more deeply to stress and attachment-related issues, necessitating specialized approaches to treatment. Throughout the discussion, the hosts provide insights into the physiological processes governing sleep, such as homeostatic sleep drive (Process S) and circadian rhythm (Process C). They offer practical advice like morning light exposure and winding down before bed. They also explain how REM and non-REM sleep stages contribute to emotional processing and memory consolidation, making sleep an essential component of recovery and mental health. The episode concludes with actionable tips for better sleep hygiene and stress management, acknowledging the intricate challenges faced by those dealing with complex PTSD and trauma-induced insomnia. 18 Sep 2023 | Fawn & Sexual Fawn | 00:53:04
The four trauma responses are the brain’s way of protecting us from threat, real or perceived. They are noncognitive, reflexive outputs that are deeply ingrained in those that have experienced trauma, which makes them incredibly difficult responses to rewire. In this episode, we explore the most dangerous F: fawn and sexual fawn response. To help us dive deeper into fawn response, we’re joined by Luis Mojica, somatics practitioner and the founder of Holistic Life Navigation. Hosts Jennifer and Elisabeth have personally learned a lot from his teachings, including how the nervous system responds to fawn and the body boundary violations that occur with sexual fawning. During this episode, Luis goes over the concept of over coupling, specifically how fear merges with intimacy and threat with arousal because of developmental sexual trauma. Luis also touches on the difference between threat and trigger, how the body can be traumatized sexually without the presence of assault, and MORE. Tune in to learn how you can let go of shame attached to fawn response, recognize your fawn patterns, and start to heal! Topics discussed in this episode:

19 Jun 2023 | Relationships, Complex Trauma, and your Nervous System | 00:55:10
Do you have trouble getting out of your head and into your body? Does your trauma affect your ability to make deep connections with others? For today’s guest, following a neurosomatic intelligence framework allowed her and her partner to build a stronger relationship, while learning more about themselves in the process.
Sharing her NSI experience with hosts Jennifer Wallace and Elisbeth Kristoff is Dr. Jolie Hamilton, a relationship expert who now brings neurosomatic intelligence into her practice. They discuss how our nervous systems interact with each other, healing generational trauma, and the power of using NSI tools anytime, anywhere.
Our nervous systems have the power to comfort or dysregulate ourselves and others, but it’s important to remember that dysregulation is inevitable in any relationship. The key is to expand the capacity of our nervous system, and you can learn that from this interview.
If you have an insecure attachment style, want to try NSI tools with your partner or just want to understand the science of this topic, listen to this episode!

20 Sep 2022 | What is CPTSD? | 00:38:54
Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is only recently beginning to be recognized thanks to the Healing Revolution but its roots actually go back to Freud in the 1800’s. Complex CPTSD sets itself apart from PTSD by five distinguishing trauma responses and likely stems from an adverse childhood experience, a developmental trauma, a failed environment. With brain science coming so far in the past twenty years we are now more clear about how trauma affects a developing young brain. Stress, trauma, and unresolved stress responses create a dysfunctional brain. When our bodies are more stressed it can create a chronic illness or disease state within the body. It’s all just one giant loop. How can we understand this in our own life? Maybe you will find yourself within Jennifer and Elisabeth's stories or their clients' stories. And understand what you may have thought was a personality trait is actually a trauma response.
This conversation discusses
This conversation is the beginning of a long conversation about CPTSD as we will be breaking down its components individually.

28 Oct 2022 | Healing Autoimmune in Two Worlds: Plants & Western Medicine | 00:41:28
Trauma Rewired has addressed many issues that arise when trauma is stored in the body for years, decades, or even a lifetime. One of them is that this type of chronic stress can lead to autoimmune diseases, heart disease and more, as well as intensify pain experienced from these serious health issues. A dysregulated nervous system resulting from trauma leads to emotional and physical pain, but how do you heal yourself from trauma, while also fighting for your physical health? Tune in to hear how both plant medicine and Western treatments can work together to heal the different facets of your health.
It’s been two years since Anna Gieselman was on the podcast to speak about her lupus journey, an autoimmune disease, but she’s back today to update us! In this episode, she shares the lows and highs of getting to a better place with her health, including making the decision to use Western medicine and becoming healed energetically and psychically with plant medicine.
Jennifer and Anna go over pivotal moments of their ayahuasca trip, such as experiencing a dark energy, healing generational trauma, and the divine feminine. Listen to their conversation about overall wellness for all this and more!

26 Aug 2024 | Complex Trauma Is A Neurodivergence | 00:55:29
What is a neurotypical world? Here at Trauma Rewired, we don’t believe it exists. As humans, we are biodynamic, unique, individuals that process the world around us differently. So understanding how that happens is key to unlocking our healing potential. Complex trauma adds another layer to the mix, which we believe is not separate from neurodivergence. The “extra” neural pathways reinforced by traumatic events to keep us safe is what shapes the neurodivergent spectrum. On today’s episode, Elisabeth and Jennifer are joined by founder of Next Level Neuro, Matt Bush, to discuss how complex trauma IS neurodivergence. They take a deep dive into what goes on in the brain during development and when traumatic events happen, that result in shaping our neurodivergent superpowers. They also discuss how to hone in and take control of these unique nuances to better share our gifts with the world. Although we cannot change our past experiences, we can change how we process sensory information and rewire the brain to reinterpret triggers that may not be helpful. Through proper dosing of NSI tools, we want to show you how you can achieve that. So tune in to learn about this and more!

07 Apr 2025 | How Your Nervous System Shapes Your Money Story | 01:09:59
In today’s episode, we’re bringing you something truly transformative. Our host, Elisabeth Kristoff, recently joined Kate Northrup on her podcast, Plenty, for a raw and eye-opening conversation that dives deep into the intricate relationship between the nervous system and financial success. The insights were so powerful, we knew we had to share this rich discussion with the Trauma Rewired audience. In this episode, we’re breaking down the nervous system like never before. You’ll learn how to expand its capacity for abundance, uncover the hidden connections between the nervous system and your money patterns, and discover tangible steps to heal and regulate it. Elisabeth and Kate also open up about their own personal healing journeys, sharing how radically different their lives are today after rewiring their nervous systems. They offer invaluable advice on recognizing and managing anxiety, and—perhaps most importantly—how to identify when your nervous system is out of balance. Understanding the nervous system is foundational to how we show up in the world. It governs everything from our ability to thrive in relationships to how we respond to stress and abundance. If we view our automatic reactions as protective mechanisms that can be rewired, using tools like NSI, we can radically shift our capacity for resilience and long-term fulfillment. This episode will challenge you to rethink how you engage with your nervous system, and how healing it can unlock the life you truly desire. Tune in to hear more about nervous system healing and an exclusive offer for Trauma Rewired listeners that you don’t want to miss!

Emotional Flashbacks: CPTSD Element Season 02, Episode 21
The nervous system is our body’s control center, telling us when to move, think, and breathe. Disorders like CPTSD (complex post-traumatic stress disorder), put our bodies in a state of dysregulation that can have profound effects on how we feel and react.
Human emotions are a full system experience, affecting the entire body by way of hormones, sympathetic and parasympathetic stress responses. Big emotions can be overwhelming for those with CPTSD, initiating a maladaptive survival response.
In today’s episode, Elisabeth Kristof is on the show to discuss one element of this new diagnosis: emotional flashbacks. There are some misconceptions around this term, but understanding it is an important step to living a better life without the burden of trauma.
Emotional flashbacks are not regression, but rather a real-time response often created in childhood. Our brains perceive the world through the filter of our experience, so those with trauma will respond to triggers with the neurological patterns they developed as children.
Elisabeth spent years stuck in an emotional flashback state, and only saw true change through working with her emotional body to regulate her nervous system. The cognitive mind cannot overpower emotional flashbacks, so you must create your own toolkit through self-awareness.
Relieving the trauma is not necessary, but it is imperative to express your feelings in order to move on to the next step in your healing journey.
Tune in to learn how to get started!

01 May 2023 | Emotions and Your Nervous System | 00:56:36
“How many experiences in love do we have to have (where we burn it down or blow it up) before we actually understand love is real, and we start to change our response to those people or those situations?” Emotions are necessary for our survival, telling us when to be scared or cautious for our own protection. Trauma causes us to view situations and people through the lens of our past experiences, making us hypervigilant and sensitive to any perceived threat of danger. This dysregulation of our emotions, and in turn our nervous system, undoubtedly has a profound effect on our health and relationships. The quote above comes directly from this episode of Trauma Rewired, in which host Jennifer is joined by Elisabeth Kristof of Brain-Based Wellness and Matt Bush of Next Level Neuro, both founders of the Neuro-Somatic Intelligence Coaching Certification Program. They explore the topic of emotions with a neuro somatic intelligence approach. You’ll learn how emotion is stored in the body, why emotional regulation is important for our body’s functioning, and how trauma affects our expression or suppression of emotions. Matt also shares new and exciting discoveries in the study of emotions. Tune in for an in-depth conversation on emotions, including the physiology and why they’re important for the healing process! Topics discussed in this episode: ● Emotions and the limbic system ● Why emotions are necessary for survival ● Homeostasis and emotional regulation ● Feelings vs. emotions ● How trauma affects how we express (or don’t express) emotions ● Elisabeth gives an example of suppressing her emotions ● The personal experience of pain ● Where emotions are stored in the body ● Mechanism of memory in relation to trauma ● Creating and releasing tension/trauma in the body ● Emotions as triggers ● How do we train ourselves to perceive emotions/relationships differently?

09 Dec 2024 | What is A Memory and How Does It Get Stored In The Body? | 00:41:52
In this episode of "Trauma Rewired," hosts Elisabeth Kristof and Jennifer Wallace delve into the intricate relationship between memory, trauma, and the nervous system. Originally this conversation was recorded and released in two parts and what you are listening to is a combination of them. The discussion underscores the multidimensional nature of memory, including how the superior and inferior hippocampus play distinct roles in recalling positive and negative memories. The hosts explain how trauma impacts memory processing and recall, emphasizing the significance of emotional states and how they can either distort or neutralize memories. Emotional flashbacks and somatic memories, which are stored within the body's sensory experience rather than in cognitive recall, highlight the importance of understanding and processing these implicit memories for holistic healing. The conversation also explores the potential of psychedelic experiences and body awareness practices in accessing and working through somatic memories. Jennifer Wallace shares insights into preparing the body for such experiences to ensure emotional safety and maximize therapeutic benefits. The hosts touch on the hypersensitivity of the HPA axis due to early life stress and trauma, outlining how unresolved trauma can lead to chronic stress responses and adverse health effects over time. Despite these challenges, they emphasize neuroplasticity's power to promote healing and change through intentional engagement with the nervous system. Kristof and Wallace discuss emerging research on cellular memory and its implications for understanding how trauma and memory are stored beyond the brain. They highlight the role of generational trauma and epigenetics in shaping stress responses and health outcomes across generations. The episode concludes with reflections on how personal agency and repatterning the nervous system can aid individuals in creating safer, more resilient pathways for emotional and mental well-being. Topics Discussed:

18 Oct 2022 | Social Anxiety: CPTSD Component | 00:37:51
Humans are a social species, and we crave human connection and intimacy. Even when our nervous system has been severely affected by trauma, we ultimately need to socialize in order to feel fulfilled and meet all of our survival needs.
But how does someone living in a chronic state of stress, cycling through the stages of a dysregulated nervous system, balance this need for socialization while also regulating our emotions and behaviors during extreme, instinctual panic?
Elisabeth Kristof of Brain-Based Wellness is again joining host Jennifer to discuss social anxiety, the fourth characteristic of CPTSD. You’ll learn what social anxiety is through the filter of trauma, and how it connects with the other components of CPTSD: toxic shame, inner critic, and emotional flashbacks.
In this episode, Jennifer and Elisabeth share their personal experiences with social anxiety, including what physiological symptoms they’ve endured and how they dealt with them using both harmful self-soothing behaviors and healthy regulation tools.
Tune in for a deeper understanding of how social anxiety and the other components of CPTSD interconnect, and free resources to help you find the balance between self-care and socializing!

24 Apr 2023 | The Fawn Trauma Response | 00:42:04

When a child’s needs aren’t being met by their caregiver, by not being fed or feeling safe, they develop a distorted view of relationships. This attachment schema is the lens through which they examine the behavior of others, impacting their ability to form relationships and lead a healthy, happy life. In past episodes, hosts Jennifer and Elisabeth have talked about connection being one of our survival needs, but an insecure attachment directly challenges this need. Being close to others, feeling vulnerable and connected, can also be very dysregulating to those who learned to survive with unemotional or unreliable caregivers. So, how can you overcome your learned patterns to create healthy relationships with yourself and others? The answer is nervous system training. In this episode, Jennifer and Elisabeth will walk you through attachment schema, how the three insecure attachment styles develop and show up as behavioral outputs, and how nervous system regulation has helped them work toward lasting change. Tune in for all this and more! Topics discussed in this episode:

17 Jun 2024 | Stress Response In Relationship | 00:56:28

03 Feb 2025 | Bridging Individual and Collective Healing Through Embodiment | 00:46:40
We often think of healing as an individual journey—going inward to process unresolved trauma, grief, and pain from our past. But what about collective trauma, grief, and pain? We rarely consider the healing that must take place beyond ourselves, addressing the unprocessed wounds we carry as a community. True healing requires creating safety both within and around us, allowing us to move beyond our personal experiences and contribute to something greater than our own individual worlds. On today’s episode, we’re joined by embodiment facilitator, political organizer, therapist, and podcast host, Prentis Hemphill. As the founder of The Embodiment Institute and The Black Embodiment Initiative, and host of Becoming The People, Prentis brings deep wisdom and presence to the conversation. They sit down with Elisabeth and Jennifer for a powerful discussion on healing in community, the role of embodiment in collective transformation, and the challenges of accountability. Prentis also shares invaluable insights on navigating fear, processing collective grief, and staying grounded in truth—especially when sharing your gifts with the world on a larger scale. On Trauma Rewired, often discuss how embodiment and healing requires repetition, practice, and safe spaces. It also takes courage—especially when facilitating collective healing. Prentis embodies this work in a profound way, so don’t miss today’s episode to hear their insights and much more! Topics discussed in this episode:

18 Dec 2023 | Dissociation | 00:45:22
Dissociation is one way that our brain keeps us safe from things that may cause us stress or harm. Whether it’s a simple moment of daydreaming or constant state of dissociation in an abusive relationship, being cognitively and physically disconnected is not conducive to healing.
During this episode of Trauma Rewired, Jennifer and Elisabeth discuss the spectrum of dissociation and how it can affect the interoceptive system, or how we process and send information to the brain. They go over the symptoms of dissociation, sharing their personal experiences of dissociation related to childhood trauma.
Our survival brain sees healing as a threat, but there are ways to rehab the deficits in the nervous system to give more clear information to the brain, helping us to think and see more clearly. For example, training our interoceptive system can fight our hypersensitivity to threats and bring us out of disassociation.
To learn what tools can help you retrain your nervous system and the learned conditioned responses that are no longer serving you, tune in to this episode!

22 Apr 2024 | The Inner Critic of Complex Post Traumatic Stress | 00:49:26
We’ve all experienced the inner critic to some extent. You know, that voice inside of your head saying you’re not good enough, or that you’re a bad person. Where does this voice come from and why is it so vicious? On this episode of Trauma Rewired, Elisabeth and Jennifer sit down to discuss the inner critic, specifically the severity of it when it comes to people with CPTS, what activates the inner critic loop cycle, what part of the brain the inner critic activates, the reflexive responses associated with the inner critic, and finally, how NSI training can help with quieting the inner critic. This type of reflexive response is created as a means of survival, the brain always wants to protect itself. However, the constant cycle of judgment, criticism, demeaning thoughts about the self becomes maladaptive when it stops serving its original purpose. There is a way to quiet the inner critic, which we want to share with you today. Tune in to find out how to turn down the volume on the inner critic, and the volume up on self compassion.

23 Sep 2022 | The Magic Tea & the Tumor | 00:13:59
The Magic Tea & the Tumor Season 02, Episode 20
We, as humans, are more powerful than we can fathom. We have the ability to heal with our minds and our bodies at such high levels, only when given the opportunity.
Sometimes, to get to that awareness, it takes opening up parts of our minds that have been dormant for a long time. That is where plant medicine comes in.
Plant medicine, when used in a safe and controlled environment, has the ability to open our mind and heart up in ways that can transform us from the inside out.
This is something host Jennifer Wallace experienced after receiving her breast cancer diagnosis, and was called to plant medicine treatment. The treatment had a profound affect on Jennifer, in that it changed the way she saw her breast cancer and inevitably the way she healed it.
This is a powerful episode that will open your mind to a new way of healing, integrating plant medicine and neurosomatic intelligence to create a powerful combination of intense transformation and healing.
Tune in to hear Jennifer’s story and how you can connect with her to start your healing journey.

29 Apr 2024 | Toxic Shame Of Complex Post Traumatic Stress | 00:48:01
As a human, you have most likely felt shame to some degree. Although it is a normal human protective emotion to keep us safe on a societal level, shame can become toxic when it persists and when we internalize the critical narrative from that shame. Just as toxic shame is developed, it can be undeveloped, by learning how to recognize when and how it shows up in the body, then repatterning the neural pathways in real time using NSI tools, and allowing repressed emotions to mobilize.

Mental Health Crisis, Trauma, Psychedelics .... big words during these times. Plant medicicne is not a quick fix and the lack of support on the backend during integration is staggering. I know because I've been to the best centers and even theyre trying to figure it out. There are people who understand integration but they aren't often trained in nervous system regulation and healing. Maybe the change you desire feels scary, perhaps you unlocked a deeply buried scary trauma, how about that hard conversation, or intentioanlly blowing your world up to leave the mundane 9-5 and live a life of purpose. Everyone's path is very different based on what comes through, where our attention and intention lies, and what we are healing or processing. Remember change is threatening to your brain so learn your unique nervous system and create the life you desire. I can help you. 24 Mar 2025 | Navigating Shame and Boundaries After Trauma | 00:49:37
The statistics on early childhood sexual abuse are heartbreaking. One in four girls and one in thirteen boys have experienced some form of childhood sexual trauma—at least the cases that get reported. It's hard to wrap your head around how something so dark can be happening so often. This is why talking about childhood sexual trauma is so difficult and often carries so much shame—it feels so unimaginable, even when it happens to you. But we know that shame thrives in silence, and the first step in healing is unpacking that trauma. In today’s episode, Elisabeth and Jennifer sit down with Lovey Bradley, an NSI-certified practitioner, trauma therapist, and brain-based coach, to talk about the lasting impact of sexual trauma on our lives. Together, they explore how deeply trauma affects the body—from freeze responses and dissociation to bracing, pelvic floor tension, and pain—and how these experiences shape our lives. They also open up about their personal journeys and the ways they’ve worked to re-pattern their nervous systems with healing modalities like NSI, helping them heal and thrive after early childhood trauma. When shame has been your constant companion, it can feel impossible to set boundaries and reclaim your sense of self. But healing is possible. Lovey, Elisabeth, and Jennifer are living proof of that. Our bodies are always sending us signals on how to heal; the key is learning how to listen. If this episode resonates with you, whether you’ve experienced this trauma yourself or know someone who has, we invite you to listen and share.

18 Nov 2024 | Neurodivergence, Early Childhood Trauma, and Brain Development | 01:03:30
In this episode of Trauma Rewired, hosts Elisabeth Kristof, Jennifer Wallace, and Matt Bush delve into the intricate relations between complex trauma, neurodivergence, and brain function dysregulation. The conversation highlights how gradual exposure to non-threatening stimuli can help manage threat responses, and the importance of achieving balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems for resilience. They discuss neurological pathways affected by trauma and neurodivergence, focusing on the interplay between creativity, logical processing, and emotional regulation. The hosts emphasize understanding oneself deeply, revealing personal strengths, and valuing unique sensitivities to foster self-compassion and improve coping mechanisms. Elisabeth Kristof underscores the vital role of play in activating joy and the significance of building a nurturing internal environment. She explains that while it's impossible to fully "rewire" oneself, there is potential for experiencing new ways of thriving through the nervous system. The episode also explores vertical integration, encompassing the brainstem, limbic system, and prefrontal cortex, discussing how disruptions lead to chronic stress and emotional reactivity. The hosts examine societal expectations and their impact on neurodivergent individuals, advocating for a shift towards recognizing and celebrating unique neurological differences.
