14 Jul 2021 | S21E17 - Developing Your Company’s Multilingual Skills for a Competitive Edge, with Steve Leveen | 00:37:55
In this HCI Podcast episode, Dr. Jonathan H. Westover (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathanhwestover/) talks with Steve Leveen about developing your company's multilingual skills for a competitive edge. See the video here: https://youtu.be/j_yRwbFSjvM. Steve Leveen (https://www.linkedin.com/in/steveleveen/) is the author of America’s Bilingual Century: How Americans are giving the gift of bilingualism to themselves, their loved ones, and their country (America the Bilingual Press, January 2021). Based on a decade of research, plus hundreds of interviews with language teachers and researchers as well as bilinguals, this foundational work puts forth a new vision for America, one that Steve maintains is already coming into focus throughout the country—namely, an America where nearly all who live here speak English and another language. Steve offers his own midlife awakening to bilingualism as proof that, just as it’s never too early to learn another language, it’s also never too late. He has made Spanish his “adopted language.” In researching America’s Bilingual Century, Steve spent two fellowship years at Harvard and Stanford, interviewing some of the country’s major scholars of bilingualism. America’s Bilingual Century is part of the America the Bilingual Project, an advocacy initiative that Steve began in 2017 to help foster a stronger and healthier nation through bilingualism. In founding America the Bilingual, Steve embarked on his encore career. 27 May 2021 | S19E10 - Guiding Principles of Rehumanizing the Workplace, with Dr. Rosie Ward | 00:32:08
In this HCI Podcast episode, Dr. Jonathan H. Westover (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathanhwestover/) talks with Dr. Rosie Ward about guiding principles of rehumanizing the workplace. See the video here: https://youtu.be/58nDLSrcmiY.
Dr. Rosie Ward (https://www.linkedin.com/in/rward/) began her career in 1994 in the fitness industry as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and master’s degree in Public Health, with a focus on worksite health promotion. She became disheartened when she realized the way we approached supporting employee wellness didn't really work and she knew she needed to find a better path. After personally experiencing the ill-effects of a toxic work environment, she was inspired to shift gears and completed her Ph.D. in Organization and Management, where she focused on organizational culture, leadership, and coaching. She started to see how incredibly interconnected our own health and wellbeing are with the organizations where we work. After holding various leadership and consulting roles, she co-founded Salveo Partners, LLC, a consulting and professional development firm dedicated to rehumanizing workplaces so organizations and their people can thrive.

15 Apr 2021 | S16E18 - Shifting the Paradigm: Reaping Benefits from Difficult Situations and Staying Calm in the Midst of Chaos, with Irma Neal | 00:32:08
In this HCI Podcast episode, Dr. Jonathan H. Westover (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathanhwestover/) talks with Irma Neal about shifting the paradigm to reap the benefits from difficult situations and to stay calm in the midst of chaos. See the video here: https://youtu.be/n6GoGPRY-1I.
Irma grew up as the oldest in a Midwest family of eight. During her upbringing she saw first hand how NOT to manage money—the collection letters and calls, utilities being disconnected month after month. As a result, these childhood experiences propelled a life of financial discipline and focus. Today, Irma is financially independent and empowered. Professionally, Irma has been Deputy Mayor of Indianapolis, Vice President at two fortune 500 corporations and has owned 4 small businesses. After a very touching experience when conducting an 8-week financial literacy seminar for her church, she decided to help others take control of their finances, completed the Dave Ramsey Master Series Financial Coach training and started Onyx Rising Financial Services in 2016. She wrote “Leading in Chaos: Insights to Lead Through the Storms” to chronical some incredible work experiences and give management insights to leaders as they navigate a toxic work environment.
