11 Jul 2024Glen Jacobs of WorldTrail – Trail Design | Knowledge Sharing | Trail Building Innovation from Around the World | Mountain Biking is just beginning – 17502:36:45

For Episode 175 we have Glen Jacobs back for Round 2 on Trail EAffect. Glen first appeared on episode 125, if you haven’t listened to the first conversation with Glen, I highly recommend it as, episode 125 will provide some context for this conversation.

Glen is easily one of the most prolific visionaries in Trail Building. Glen Co-founded WorldTrail with Dylan Jeffries 20 years ago. They have since gone on to plan, design and build some of best mountain bike destinations on the Planet.

The overarching theme to this conversation is Glen’s desire to share the knowledge that he, and his team have learned over many years.

This conversation goes quite a bit longer than normal and I need to point out that mid conversation Glen lost power at his place so he pivoted from his computer to his phone to continue the conversation, then back to his computer once the power was restored. Glen is truly a world class human, and we are all very fortunate to have Glen as a professional in our trail community!

04 Apr 2023Nick Bennette – Executive Director for the Vermont Mountain Bike Association #12101:17:39

Nick Bennette – Executive Director for the Vermont Mountain Bike Association #121

Nick is a dad, environmentalist, recovering consultant, and passionate mountain biker. He’s most happy out in the woods, popping off roots and rocks and searching for fun lines. Outside of work, Nick is either keeping up with his 9-year old or out on the trail, typically combining those things as much as possible. Once the weather turns, Nick tries to get in as much skiing and fat biking as he can, and his family has (mostly) converted him into a cozy-weather board gamer. Nick’s favorite thing about working for VMBA is the people. “Every single person in our organization is passionate about strengthening access and sustainable stewardship. It’s awesome to work so closely with Chapter leadership, partners, and volunteers rooted in that same passion.” Most importantly, favorite trail snack. There’s no one answer for Nick, regardless, he strongly prefers ‘real’ food and the default is to whip together a ‘mega sandwich’ – peanut butter, banana, honey, and chia seeds.

21 Apr 2022The Jeremy P. McGhee Story Part II - The UNPavement Project (#66)02:03:19

Trail EAffect Episode 66 Jeremy P McGhee Part 2 the UNPavement Project

Typically, this is where I would drop in a list of all the topics covered during the interview, but this interview is different, much different. Jeremy is a character; an inspiration and Jeremy was extremely open and candid about his life both before he was in an accident and afterwards during this interview. This is a very long interview, which is why it’s been broken into two parts. I encourage everyone to listen to the full interview as there is a ton of inspiration, stories and knowledge distributed throughout the who interview.

"Do What You Love" - Jeremy P. McGhee

The UNPavement Project is one of a handful of projects that Jeremy has created. The UNPavement Project might be the most important project I’ve had the opportunity to share on this show as it truly defines inclusive trails and how to create access into the outdoors for more people. But let’s be clear, this does not include “dumbing down” existing trails.

19 Feb 2022Katie Zaffke – Santa Cruz Bicycles Paydirt Fund Program Coordinator (#18)00:46:21

Trail EAffect Episode 18 with Katie Zaffke – Paydirt Fund Program Coordinator for Santa Cruz

This episode first aired on January 28th of 2021 on Mountain Bike Radio

Santa Cruz first caught my attention years ago through their involvement with the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship, and the other events they have been involved with that also included an aspect of trail work. Then in November of 2019 Santa Cruz rolled out the “Paydirt Fund”. This really caught my attention and I’m sure others as well. Afterall, how many companies are giving out One Million Dollars over 3 years with no geographical limitations, and very few other limitations. This brought me to Katie Zaffke who is the Paydirt Fund Program Coordinator. This is one of the most inspiring interviews I had the opportunity to take part in yet. Tune in to learn more about the Santa Cruz and the Paydirt fund.

Topics in the show include:

  • Katie Zaffke Backstory
  • The Backstory about Santa Cruz supporting trail communities such as the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship.
  • How the Paydirt fund came about
  • The details on some Paydirt Fund recipients
  • Details on what makes a good project for the Paydirt Fund
  • Breaking News – Tune in to see what program is morphing in the name of supporting those who help push trail projects.
  • Closing Comments.

KETL Mtn Apparel Discount Code has been suspended due to the Promo Code getting out for the masses to use without actually listening to the podcast. Sorry about this.

I still stand behind KETL Mtn Apparel 100% and believe they have some of the best products on the market, especially at very reasonable prices even without the code when compared to a lot of other brands.
