05 Jun 2016 | 2: Body Image Issues with Jules Galloway | 00:31:10
Jules is a total bad-ass and we loooovee her!! She is such an inspiration and doesn’t let anything stand in her way. In this episode of The Whole Circle we speak to Jules about her lack of thigh gap (I know, so incredible wrong – NOT). Who has a thigh gap anyway, certainly not either of us! Jules discusses body image and how she overcame her fears about posting an image of herself on the beach – with her thighs touching (shock, horror) and how she doesn’t let her lack of thigh gap worry her anymore. Her happiness is way more important to her than body image and she wants to share that with everyone, and anyone, who will listen. Some questions we ask:
Who is Jules Galloway Jules Galloway is a naturopath on a mission to help tired women find their shine again. Jules want to introduce as many people as possible to an exciting new way of eating and living. To bust through the old nutrition myths and misinformation, and teach a fresh approach to choosing the right foods. And above all, to show you that’s it’s easier than you think to lead a happy, healthy, wholefood life. You can find her on Facebook, Instagram and her website. Jo & Tracey x
15 Feb 2018 | 104: Lunch Box Ideas for Adults | 00:19:48
In this episode, it’s all about hints and tips for better lunches. If you’ve got access to a microwave, toasted sandwich press or mini-oven for your work, or even at high school, then you have a lot more options and variety when it comes to lunch choices. Don’t worry if you’re a tradie or work outdoors with no access to these heating devices, we also have some great tips for you. If you’re one to always buy your lunches through shortage of time, or lack of inspiration, or perhaps you don’t eat lunch all together, it’s time to mix up your routine for the better! We really want to focus on long-term gains from the nourishing food you’re putting in your body, especially when you’re on a busy schedule. Making it through the day on coffee and Red Bull, might give you a short spike in energy, but along with poor snack choices or skipped lunches, you’ll know all about that sluggish feeling that seems to follow you around all day. Obesity is also an all too common effect of a poor diet, and skipping out on lunch generally makes you eat anything in sight by the time you get home. The good, the bad, the ugly on pre-packaged lunches Having someone else cook or prepare your lunch, and present it in a tidy package is great for all those days when you’re just too busy to make your own. However, there’s just so many reasons why bought lunches should be left solely as a treat. Remember, when it comes to healthier lunches, you’re allowed to put yourself first! If you’re not healthy and full of energy, it can be hard to give fully to your children, partner, work colleagues and boss. When you’re tired, moody and constantly feeling fatigue, then you can’t easily be of service to anyone else. 26 Jul 2018 | 127: Janenna on Her Additive-Free Made Easy Journey | 00:18:33
Janina has just completed the last round of the Additive-free Made Easy, and In this episode, she shares her tips and guides on how to start you additive-free process at home. Apart from that, Janina also walks us through her additive-free journey and how these changes made a big difference in her children's behavior. Tune in to know more about Janina and her start to the additive-free trip. What convinced Janina to go additive free? For her family and her wellness, Janina and her husband already started looking at different kinds of diets. But what convinced Janina further into going additive-free is the changes in her skin that she's noticed. Her skin was in terrible shape for her age. She thought it was just hormonal, but that wasn't the root of it. She then started looking at the food they eat and how these food intakes affected their children. How did her course go? "It can seem very daunting at the beginning but once you learn it, it sort of sticks." In the house, going additive-free is super easy — the tricky part for Janina and her family is when they go out and choose where to eat. No start is perfect, and one thing to be reminded of is that life gets in the way and the critical part is to not make a huge deal out of it. She attests that paying a little bit more for the quality of the food you eat is so much worth it than spending the money going to a doctor for health issues. Her advice to people starting out the additive-free lifestyle is to take it slowly, and the power to change your life is in your hands. 14 Feb 2019 | 153: Food Babe – Uncovering The Truth About Our Food | 00:27:36
In this week’s episode of The Whole Circle Podcast we uncover the truth about our food with the inspiring Vani Hari from Food Babe. We’ve totally got a fan crush interviewing Vani today! We have been wanting to interview her for a long time, so we are so excited to bring you this episode. We hope you get as much out of it as we did. Vani Hari is a revolutionary food activist, a New York Times best-selling author, and was named one of the “Most Influential People On The Internet” by Time Magazine in 2015. Vani started FoodBabe.com to spread information about what is really in the American food supply. She teaches people how to make the right purchasing decisions at the grocery store, how to live an organic lifestyle, and how to travel healthfully around the world. The success of her writing and investigative work can be seen in the way food companies react to her uncanny ability to find and expose the truth. Vani has influenced how major food giants like Kraft, General Mills, Subway, Chipotle, Chick-fil-A, and Starbucks create their products, steering them towards more healthful policies. 22 Feb 2018 | 105: Smart Fertility Choices with Kym Campbell | 00:30:53
Kym is one of those rare souls, who openly bares her struggles of being diagnosed with a chronic disease, and her inability to fall pregnant due to fertility issues. Through that soul baring process, Kym has been changing the lives of many other women, through the invaluable knowledge she has gained along the way. We have been so intrigued by her story, and totally blown away with how much she has accomplished along the way. In this episode, we hear all about the heartbreak she has been through but also the incredible power of controlling her chronic disease through natural approaches, and eventually falling pregnant and giving birth to a beautiful baby boy. As a kid, Kym recalls how she was constantly sick. Her leading medical problem was that she always seemed to have irregular periods. She didn’t know it at the time but she was actually already showing symptoms of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) early on, including acne, insomnia, anxiety, depression and extra belly fat, even though she was quite active. When she got married at around 30, her attempts to fall pregnant didn’t quite go to plan. It was around this time that Kym was diagnosed with PCOS, which is becoming increasingly common with around 1 in 5 women being diagnosed with PCOS. What we find so incredible about Kym’s journey, is her discovery that modern medicine, is not always the right path to take. In fact, she has learnt the hard way that IVF can make some women even more sick, even though it holds its many strengths in medical breakthroughs. While much of the Western World holds the view that the ‘only way’ to treat infertility is through medication and IVF, Kym is first hand proof that holistic medicine is a much gentler approach that’s certainly worth giving a go. 11 May 2023 | 186: Avoiding Aluminium: Protecting Our Health in a Toxic World | 00:07:09
When I was in the midst of creating our app I was researching the additive, Aluminium (173) and let’s just say I was blown away! I knew as an additive it wasn’t great because I used to see it plastered all over baking powder containers in health food stores stating that they were ‘aluminium free’, and I knew that aluminium in deodorants wasn’t great either, but never in my wildest dreams did I expect it to be as bad as my research found. I’ve read so many studies on this additive and let me just say that in my humble opinion it should be banned as an additive and should NEVER be allowed to go in our body or on our body! 31 May 2018 | 119: Speak Up and Stay Chatty with Mitch McPherson | 00:26:52
Sadly, many of us have been touched deeply by the sensitive topic of suicide. It’s becoming more and more common to know of someone in our immediate circle, who has lost a loved one to suicide. Today we are talking with Mitch, who is making a huge difference right here in Australia, in raising awareness for mental health. Making a huge difference in the community in preventing suicide rates While Mitch admits it’s difficult to gauge the difference that he’s making in the community, and how many lives he’s truly impacting, he knows his strong message is serving well. He is constantly receiving messages of gratitude from his talks in school, and even being stopped in the street by parents acknowledging the amazing work that he’s doing. From all the positive feedback, he knows that his talks have allowed children to open up about issues, that they may not have otherwise brought up with their parents. Talk about powerful stuff! It’s all the feedback that keeps Mitch’s fire alive, and helps him to jump out in the bed in the morning, even though it’s tough some days for him to talk about. He sees his personal experience as having the ability to change lives for the better. Mitch just wants everyone to know that if you’ve been touched by suicide, that it’s never anybody’s fault. In the end, it’s the decision of the person that takes their life. All we can do is contribute along the way in a positive and influential manner. The more we can break down barriers, share, laugh and have fun together, the less suicides we will see. Here's the topics we covered:
You can also check out our full show notes HERE. If you have found some benefit from this podcast episode we would love it if you could give us a review in your preferred podcast app – as this will help get our podcast show out to as many people as possible and spread the word about living an additive-free lifestyle. 26 Sep 2017 | 81: Additive-Free Made Easy Challenge Day 3 – Preservative 220 | 00:12:29
One of the major problems with food these days, is the need for food companies to dramatically increase shelf life. One of the most common preservatives found in these products is preservative 220. In this episode we dive deep into discussions on the common preservative 220 – you will be shocked just how many foods contain it. Sulfur dioxide, or preservative 220, is linked to some pretty terrible side effects. And guess what? You’re likely to be eating far more of this preservative than you know This preservative is commonly found in: processed meat, poultry and game products chicken loaf, frankfurters, salami, devon and manufactured hams, sausages and sausage meat, sausage rissoles, chipolatas, dried fruit fruit juice wine coconut products and so much more Numerous studies show that this preservative may have the following effects on your health: Neurological effects and behavioural changes Disturbance of blood circulation Heart damage Effects on eyes and eyesight Reproductive failure Damage to immune systems Stomach and gastrointestinal disorder Damage to liver and kidney functions Hearing defects Disturbance of the hormonal metabolism Dermatological effects Respiratory issues (including asthma) Making simple swaps and better options can really help us avoid these disgusting effects. Most of the time it is just about making super simple switches and choosing different brands. It is so easy once you know what to look out for. 13 Oct 2016 | 25: Healthy and Happy with Tash Sciotto | 00:36:36
Today we chat to Tash from "Healthy you Happy me" who discusses why true health goes deeper than simply just the food we put into our bodies. She has gone from a life as a professional singer to following her secondary passion of life coaching, health and wellbeing. She is driven and intrigued by the colorful life paths her clients take and brings a gentle approach to ensuring they meet the truest desires of their hearts. With a unique birds eye view, Tash loves to dissect what's important in each of her client's life and what's not. She also loves to focus on the creative pursuits of individuals, being a reliable mentor, shoulder to lean on and driving force behind our own inner pursuits. We get down to earth and chat about why the answers always lie in our gut feelings, especially as women with our inbuilt navigation systems that we so often ignore- aka our intuition! Tash describes why it's oh-so-important to truly take ownership of your life, giving yourself permission to simply say "no" to some things and to not feel guilty or selfish about it (great tips for busy mums!). We also delve into what simple, manageable steps you can take when life seems to just be handing you lemons or when you feel stuck unable to move forward with your life. 19 Apr 2018 | 113: Stirring Change and Food Wastage | 00:40:41
We are back and chatting with Georgia Lienemann who featured in episode 108, where we spoke about reducing food waste by consuming all of the parts that make up an animal, including brains, hearts and livers! While we candidly admit that we haven’t yet implemented offal into our diet, the idea is well and truly etched in our minds. This episode will certainly add a few more ideas to your memory banks, where again we are hearing some incredible tips on how to reduce household food waste. It’s a bit of a crime to be throwing away so many food items, where you can truly reap in all the health benefits of many of their offcuts, and save the environment at the same time. With this awareness, each and every one of us can very easily play our part in cutting down on overall food wastage. Remember, any mind-set that you adapt about reducing your food wastage is passed down to your children and that’s a powerful thing. If we don’t raise our children to be a little conservative, they would grow up with the mind-set of being able to waste things, just because they can! 10 Nov 2016 | 33: Family Food with Maddie Race | 00:31:11
"Kids are the biggest imitators, be someone great to imitate" Maddie is a true Italian- if she isn't in the kitchen you'll probably find her watching a cooking show, reading a cooking book or talking to somebody about food. Food is undoubtedly one of her greatest passions. Maddie went through the tragedy of losing her mum to cancer at just 13 years old and since this heartbreaking and transformational time in her life, she has a strong focus on non-material things. She also recently lost all of her possessions to a house fire, however nothing could ever put out her "burning" desire to teach people how to cook. Maddie launched her cooking business "Kids Say Yum" and sought nutritional training to help educate her clients in maintaining healthy food habits. One of the driving forces behind Maddie's passion is the belief that food is the one thing that connects everybody together regardless of race or religion. She views meal times as a way to bring families together and shares with us ideas on how to strengthen and prioritise this valuable time spent together. We also discuss ways to create a "culture" around meal time and why it's important to embed this practice into your children's life early on. As with most parents, there's often a struggle to find ways in which to get children to "eat their greens". Maddie's approach is to make meal time fun by teaching her kids the origin of the food or making funny faces out of the food. Generally, Maddie looks at ways to build curiosity and connection with food. In this week’s episode of The Whole Circle Podcast we talk to the Founder of Eco Tan, Sonya Driver. Sonya was determined to support her sister, who had a cancerous growth cut from her arm, leaving a horrible scar. Still wanting to get a tan without the risk of harmful UV rays, they sought the next best thing. Sonya and her sister began getting regular spray tans together but soon became concerned about the ingredients they were constantly covering themselves with. Sonya began to research the ingredients used by many different brands, regardless of their claims. She says it only took her a few minutes to decide not to use their products anymore. After all, our skin is our largest organ, and much of what we put on it is absorbed into our bloodstream. Sonya started buying in samples of cacao, flower essence, chamomile and all things natural and organic and started mixing batches out of her tiny kitchen in her Currumbin house. In 2011, Eco Tan made Australian history by becoming the first and only tanning manufacturer to be certified organic by the Organic Food Chain under the Australian government. Since Day 1, Sonya has been committed to creating a healthier, animal friendly and environmentally friendly eco range. Eco Tan is a company that is founded on authenticity and transparency, which is why our certifications are SO important. Topics discussed:

15 Mar 2018 | 108: Georgia from Stirring Change – Nose to Tail Nutrition | 00:50:01
In this episode, we’re chatting with Georgia Lienemann, who is here to inspire variety in your diet, particularly from her passion of all things Nose to Tail. If this term is new to you, it’s all about valuing and using the many different cuts of an animal. This includes the offal, which gives you a full spectrum of nutrients along with healthy fats, both often greatly diminished in traditional prime cuts of meat. But exactly what is offal we hear you ask? Georgia: “It’s really just an umbrella term to describe everything that’s within the abdominal cavity of an animal. Think of it as the digestive organs of an animal. I know, I know! Push past your queasiness in reading that, trust me, it’s worth it for your health!” Remember, when introducing offal into your diet, it’s all about taking baby steps and slowly desensitizing yourself to what’s in front of you. Through the continual exposure, you’ll reach a point where you won’t even think twice about making a main meal, that’s rich in brain or hearty goodness! When you begin to notice an improvement in your overall health and energy, you’ll be inspired even more to step back to your ancestor’s eating patterns. 24 May 2018 | 118: Ruth Hatten on Animal Nutrition | 00:26:01
If you’ve ever had a mysterious or ongoing health issue with your pet, you’ll know just how frustrating it can be to try and get to the bottom of the problem. With pet dogs now viewed as family members within the typical Australian household, we wanted to dedicate an entire episode to pet health! And who better to speak to than animal naturopath, Ruth Hatten. In this podcast, you’re going to learn about all the foods that can dramatically improve your pet’s health, particularly if you have a dog in the family. Jo’s 18 month old chocolate Labrador Molly has had ongoing issues with terrible, itchy skin. After countless trips to the vet, costly steroid creams and antibiotics, this dog just couldn’t stop itching. Jo has always fed her quite a wholefood diet, with everything cooked or slow-cooked, and plenty of grains on offer. After our chat to Ruth, Jo has implemented quite a few changes and noticed some pretty impressive differences in Molly’s skin problem. Nature intends to have dogs and cats around for a long time, so by drastically improving their diet and feeding predominately raw, you’re doing everything you can to help your pet lead a long and happy life, free from disease. 25 Oct 2016 | 29: Taking The Fear Out Of Additive-Free Eating - Day Three | 00:16:49
Managing JudgementOver the past 50 years our food has gone from nutrient dense, home-grown food to horribly processed, bleached, stripped, glued and pulped. When you decide to eat additive free, it can be very hard for our friends and family to understand your reasoning; and this can often come across as very judgmental. In this episode we give some great tips on managing judgement from others (and also our own judgments), especially when we refuse to eat a certain type of food which we know is detrimental to our health. We discuss ways to build your confidence about your choice to be additive free and also ways to lightly educate those that become interested in the choices you openly make about food. We talk about why it's ok to boldly say "no I don't need that food in my diet!" and the pride that comes with making that decision. Judgement on yourself can be equally as harsh as judgement from others. When someone says something such as "you're being a bit over the top" then you might run that question again and again through your mind, but we look at ways to stay focused on your positives rather than wondering if you are in fact being over the top! 25 Aug 2016 | 18: How to Eat Organic While Sticking to Your Budget | 00:20:53
What is sprayed on your food stays on your food,so when you eat your food it ends up in your system. This is something many of us don’t want to happen. People think going organic is difficult, or that is is really expensive, but we are here to tell you that it isn't, and anyone can eat an organic diet, with just a little bit of extra care! In this episode, we talk about how you can start eating more organic healthy food even if you’re on a tight budget. Here is a summary of the tips we talk about in this episode of The Whole Circle: Tip #1: Buy in bulk Whatever food you’re buying, if you’re buying in bulk you will definitely save money in the long run. One way to do this is to look around and join a coop. Buying through a coop can save you lots of money. If you can’t find one, start one! Tip #2: Buy in season When fruits and vegetables are in season they’re cheaper. Stock up, puree, freeze or preserve as much as you can. Tip #3: Use your freezer It's no secret that we love to freeze lots of things at Sistermixin. Keep and eye out for a secondhand freezer and use it to store all the bulk produce you have bought (or preserved). Tip #4: Shop locally Go to your local farmer’s market and look for organic food. Food is cheaper at the farmer’s market and you can always talk to farmers and ask them about the pesticides they use. Tip #5: Eat great quality, nutritent dense foods It's a fact that whole foods and healthy fats are so good for the body! Not only are they full of nutrition, they will also keep you feeling full for longer, which, in turn, saves you money. You are less likely to head to the pantry for snacks, or impulse buy when you are not even hungry. Tip #6: Be a good neighbor Getting to know your neighbors and sharing more will encourage a generous atmosphere. Give and you shall receive. Tip #7: Grow your own food You don’t need to have a green thumb to do this. Plant veggies, or some fruit trees. By growing things in pots, or your backyard, you don’t need to buy them anymore, plus you can ensure they are 100% organic. We hope these tips will help you start eating more organic food without breaking the bank! If you've loved this episode, please leave us a review. We'd love to know what you thought. 07 Dec 2017 | 94: All Things Cordial with Maria from Roar Living | 00:27:16
We are delighted to feature Maria from Roar Cordial in this episode of The Whole Circle. Maria is inspirational, full of life and one of the most giving people we have ever met. Maria fills us in on her journey into creating her own natural cordial range. We discuss how Maria grew up in a family where food was sourced from the land, and food was just that - real food. It wasn’t until she had her first born, where she saw her daughter’s severe reaction to sulphur after consuming dried apricots. Her little body broke out in red hives and this marked the beginning of Maria's journey into additive and preservative free living. Being a chef, she didn’t just stop at removing additives and preservatives from her family meals, but wanted to go one step further in creating her own cordial range, after realising there was no natural cordial product available on the Gold Coast. All of her delicious cordial flavours are based on high quality whole fruits and botanicals. Let's discuss how your body goes through different responses to additives Do you find that you used to really enjoy that smooth glass of red wine at the end of a hard work week, and now all you get is a migraine? It’s funny how our bodies sometimes tell us that enough’s enough! Perhaps your treat would be some mouth-watering cheese and crackers, or a bowl of ice-cream, but now you get a reaction of some kind - headache, itchy skin, restlessness etc. These reactions are all consistent with eating additives and/or preservatives. Maria talks about the many challenges she has faced in creating a natural based cordial, especially in preserving the fresh fruits so they don’t spoil. Jo & Tracey x

16 Sep 2016 | 21: A Life Reinvented With Victoria Yuen | 00:35:37
We're honored to be chatting with Victoria, a single mum of two who walks us down the bumpy roads of her past and how she is now helping others to achieve their goals and be the best that they are here to be. Victoria went through her first stomach operation when she was 10 months old and has been in and out of hospital most of her life. She has experienced deep depression after multiple surgeries and she knew she had to take steps to turn her life around and get her health back on track. We place a microscope on the changes she made in her life, in particular with regard to her mental health and how she managed her stress levels. Victoria discusses the biological effects of negative emotions on the body, especially at a cellular level. We look into the attributes of self-love and self-respect and why it's so important to pass this knowledge onto your children, especially those going through their teenage years, as it serves a solid foundation to get them through the many challenges of being a teenager. Victoria also focuses on why open communication is so vital with your children early on, in order to set them up for healthy relationships in the future. Victoria has a huge focus on meditation, yoga and mindfulness and guides us through some simple breathing techniques that you can incorporate throughout your day, to add meaning to moments that would otherwise slip away. These techniques assist in calming the central nervous system and lowering heart rate and blood pressure. She works with many clients who are dealing with cancer and can witness first hand how beneficial these techniques are to them. One of Victoria's top pieces of advice we take away from her is to freeze the moments throughout the day that you are most grateful for and utilize that buzz and energy to get you through the harder times. She pours her passion into mothering, watching others grow, shine and overcome negative situations in their lives . In today's episode we have Chey Birch, the visionary creator and founder of Black Chicken Remedies. She consulted with a naturopath who then asked her about all the products she used in the body and she was horrified with how much toxins she put on her body. Sinusitis is due to the toxin overload as the body uses the sinus to detoxify the body thus her headaches and migraines. This led her to make her own body oil that will hydrate and nourish her body thus resulted to her very first product Love Your Body Oil. As their product's success , their following continues to grow even if it seems like their price may be higher than what’s in the supermarket. Let's face it organic products are a bit pricey than the synthetic once out in the market but knowing that the ingredients are safe and that it can truly address your health concerns, I think it is totally worth it! 08 Mar 2018 | 107: Best Camping Meals whilst Remaining Additive-Free | 00:17:27
We won’t lie, it’s not exactly easy to be additive-free, when you embark on a family camping trip, but it’s still very achievable. Pre-additive free, it would be a running joke that Jo’s family would always come home early from their camping trip, as her daughter would always get sick. All of the little ice cream treats, dips, chips, wines, two-minute noodles and biscuits all add up, in terms of nasty additives! With Easter coming up, we want to prepare you for your own additive-free camping trip! It’s time to get savvy, so you and your family can return from camping, feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. How to be super prepared and organised It’s time to get a food plan in place before you even hit the road! It’s simply not going to work by planning your camping meals on the fly. Trust us, we know all too well from our own experience. Don’t make it hard for yourself! Take the pressure off. Remember, it’s all about striving for the best in terms of additive-free options. But you are allowed treats from time to time. It’s totally OK to have fish and chips for dinner one night or let the kids get a chocolate ice cream from the camp store. Happy camping! Resources

23 Oct 2016 | 27: Taking The Fear Out Of Additive-Free Eating - Day One | 00:16:24
Know Your Why Starting anything new in life can often be overwhelming and it's no different when it comes to implementing healthier food options into your life. We're here to help those that are starting out additive free and putting out a big reminder that it isn't as scary as it may seem! First you want to establish your "Why?". Why would you like to eat a certain way? Why have you had an interest in additive free? For Jo, in particular, her journey into additive free living began when her daughter, at just three years old, had major unexplained behavioral issues. Jo would often find her in the fetal position on the floor, scratching her face excessively or throwing lengthy tantrums. Luckily, around this time Jo was fortunate enough to overhear information on a certain additive that is linked to behavioural issues. She then delved into researching more about what might be affecting her daughter's behavior. She found the light at the end of the tunnel when she discovered an adverse reaction to a certain preservative in a particular food her daughter was frequently eating. Once Jo realised what chemicals were in many foods, she removed them out of their diet. Her daughter's moods improved dramatically, she lost weight herself, her brain fog vanished and her and her husband's sleep patterns dramatically improved. In this episode we talk about the confidence and pride that comes with choosing to go additive free and explain why it isn't a diet (or fad) but rather a way of life. We discuss how to incorporate additive free into your meals and how to do so enjoyably rather than seeing it as a punishment or restriction. Links & Resources :
13 Jan 2017 | 42: Transforming Lives Town After Town With The Root Cause | 00:38:27
In this episode of The Whole Circle we chat with Israel and Belinda from "The Root Cause" who are transforming children's lives one lunchbox at a time. After the birth of their second child, Israel suffered badly from post natal depression (yes men suffer too!). It was at this point they each started to look at lifestyle factors and the food they were eating to get Israel back on track. They saw a clear connection between the food they ate and how this effected their mood. It was this connection that saw Israel avoid the need to take anti-depressant medication. They saw a dramatic improvement in their own, as well as both of their children's health and behavior. Belinda became a qualified health coach, they sold their house and hit the road, travelling by bus from school to school to spread their amazing healthy food message. Belinda loves sharing some quirky experiments, helping to get the message across to young children about eating more fruit and vegetables. Their most important message is helping children to understand what they eat is directly linked to how that makes them feel. Their school programs are an incredible success, with many parents noticing positive changes in their kids' eating habits! Stepping out of your comfort zone is what it’s all about in going additive and preservative free. It’s truly so empowering when you get in tune with your body and educate yourself as to the foods you’re putting in your body, not to mention your family’s bodies! We challenge you to check the ingredients on your packet and look for those numbers, sometimes not all numbers are bad so don’t just pick up a packet and think that since it has the numbers on it you can’t have that you need to know these numbers and this is what we teach you in Additive Free Made Easy. We’ll go through the really harsh additives and preservatives so you’ll be aware what you are eating. Don’t be fooled by the word “organic”, “artificial free” all those slogans that are on the packet, always be mindful and check your ingredients. We also challenge you to cook something new, it might be just a cake, biscuit, adding new ingredients anything. We have tons of recipes available for you to follow it’s so easy and it doesn’t have to be complicated. Get your families involved! We know this can be a challenge but it’s totally worth it. 05 Jun 2016 | 5: Jo's Story | 00:31:19
Episode #5 of The Whole Circle is all about Jo. Tracey interviews her on how it all began, why she chooses to eat additive free and the effects this is having on her whole family. But it starts way before the birth of her children, as you will discover. Tracey delves deep (as sisters can, lol) and asks questions going right back to Jo's struggle with weight from her teenage years, to how she has transformed her life into a diet full of nutrient dense foods, and has become the healthiest version of her. It's a real eye opener and for anyone who doesn't know Jo's story, or anyone who needs an extra reason to make the leap into additive free eating, you must listen to this podcast. 20 Oct 2016 | 26: All About Pyrrole Disorder with Greg Newson | 00:27:58
Greg Newson is a qualified naturopath, herbalist, nutritionist, remedial massage therapist and has a clear passion for health and wellbeing. He treats people who are suffering from every day things like colds and flus right through to digestive issues, emotional and even life threatening conditions. His number one drive is to treat not just the symptoms of a disease but the underlying cause. This approach is unique to traditional practice found within medical centers and by GPs especially within Australia. Greg focuses on a particular disorder called pyrrole disorder, which is a biochemical imbalance that leaves the body unable to absorb key nutrients such as zinc at B6, which are vital for proper bodily function. Jo is particularly excited about this episode as she has recently been diagnosed with the disorder. Other than a seemingly endless list of alternative names for the disorder (kryptopyrole, mauve disorder and pyroluria to name a few) there is also a large array of symptoms and links to the disorder. Like many medical disorders, most people can have pyrrole and not even realise it. Greg discusses the reasons why you are likely to have the disorder and why the SAD diet (Standard American/Australian Diet) will see you devoid of key nutrients and what you can do to improve your diet and increase your intake of zinc and B6. Stress in particular devoids the body of B6 and can be a key factor to those suffering from pyrrole and we discuss ways to manage stress levels. Another important factor is maintaining a balance of good and bad bacteria in the gut and how the over presence of bad bacteria can be linked to pyrrole. We also get some tips on what lifestyle factors we can implement into our busy days to prevent the disorder from occurring in our lives and signs we can look for in children who might be suffering from the disorder.

09 May 2019 | 159: Calming the Chaos with The Functional Family | 00:46:48
In this week’s episode of The Whole Circle Podcast we talk to Sharon Collon from Calming the Chaos with The Functional Family. Sharon knew her eldest son had ADHD from very early on. Her husband has severe ADHD, so they knew what to look for. Sharon wanted to help him and her family, and what followed was 9 years of research and trialling everything she could to help her little boy. They did everything, occupational therapy, speech therapy, GAPS Diet, RPA Diet, Paleo Diet, Integrative Paediatricians, Developmental Paediatricians, Child Psychologists, cutting out all colours and preservatives, behavioural therapy and then different medications. Everything helped to a certain degree, but their home life was exhausting! Sharon began developing systems and routines to try and make their home life easier. She noticed that the more organised routine based their family became, the calmer their ADHD family members would behave. She learned that by working with a child's strengths and creating easy to understand systems you can improve how your family functions. This is how The Functional Family was born. Topics discussed:

17 Feb 2017 | 47: Let's Talk Healthy Kids | 00:32:03
Today we are talking with Jessica who has a zest and passion for health but also loves to keep things in perspective and is certainly not a perfectionist when it comes to proper nutrition! She explains often misleading information in the health world and breaks it down into bite size pieces with her unique down to earth approach. Jessica knew from a young age that she wanted to be involved in the health industry. After high school she studied naturopathy then traveled around the world for five years with her boyfriend (now husband!) while working with fellow naturopaths from different countries. After becoming a mum, she went back to work part time starting her very own clinic and found herself focusing on kid's health. She believes having her two children sparked her curiosity and passion in this area. Jessica understands that the increase in common children's disorders such as eczema, asthma, allergies and autism in children is linked to many combined factors. We discuss common nutrient scarce diets and every day exposure to toxins and chemicals that are strongly linked to disease. We also hear some alarming figures on the increase in children's disease. We discuss what we can do in our modern society to control our kid's health, the importance of being realistic, why we don't have to accept the modern norm of feeding our children highly processed foods but also not going to extremes. Tune in as we discuss some of the best foods we can feed our children for sustained energy and optimal health. 08 Feb 2018 | 103: Nourishing Lunches for Kids | 00:32:01
We thought it was the perfect time to be talking about healthier lunches for your little ones, now that the first school term has started for the year, you’d be surprised at just how many questions we get asked from curious mum's, about what makes the best fillers for their kid’s lunch boxes. If you’ve got a desire to bring your kids up as healthy as possible, but not sure how to battle through fussy eaters or lack of ideas, you’ll find lots of inspiration in this episode. We get it. It can be super hectic organising school lunches for multiple kids, packing your own lunch and that of your partners’ lunch 5 days a week. This is not something your average person would label as fun! While next week’s episode will feature tips on healthier lunches for grown-ups, we want to get to the bottom of the best lunches for school-aged kids. The food you choose to put in your kids’ lunch boxes are so important, as this is exactly what’s fuelling their ability to focus and learn new information at school. They have to sustain enough energy for the entire day but also team sports, homework and after school activities. Back in our days (and probably yours too) there just weren’t that many food allergies. Now, we seem to have an epidemic going on to the point where Jo received a letter from her school, saying that if her child was to bring in a boiled egg in their lunchbox, they would have to sit in isolation to eat it, then wash their hands before they returned to their friends. This is proof that current food allergies are just getting so out of control! Of course, we have to question why? It’s really time to look into all the chemicals in our food, and see what that’s truly doing to our health, and the health of our children. 13 Jul 2016 | 12: The Boy That Was Allergic To All Food | 00:39:03
In this episode of The Whole Circle we hear from Mary, a mother who was told her son was allergic to food, yes you read that right, he was highly allergic to ALL food. This is seriously the most amazing story you will hear all year. Mary shares how she healed her son by starting to live a GAPS lifestyle…you really don’t want to miss this episode, it will inspire you to rethink everything. For years she was told that her son was fine and that there was nothing she could do to help him, her mental health suffered, her family suffered and her whole life was a nightmare. After five years of feeling like the worst mother, feeling hopeless and in a place of total fear, she finally found some hope, and this was in the power of food. After hitting her lowest point and realising that her son could die (he was allergic to the medications needed to re-hydrate him) she referred back to a book she had been given years earlier, and this was a book about GAPS – Gut And Psychology Syndrome. Prior to eating GAPS, Mary was eating, what she refers to as the SAD Diet – The Standard Australian Diet. To much sugar, lots of packaged foods, lots of breads, carbs and more. Now she is eating a diet full of healing foods, like chicken broths, veggies, fermented foods and so much more. Mary is truly remarkable and we couldn’t be more proud of her. Her story is incredible, the determination and strength she has shown throughout this journey is to be commended. And it goes to prove that a mothers instinct is pretty darn good and that sometimes mothers do know more than doctors. If you've loved this episode, please leave us a review. 21 Sep 2017 | 78: Icy Poles - The Epidemic in Your Child's School | 00:31:01
This is one of the more serious topics we have covered on The Whole Circle, and one that we are super passionate about. As you know we are all about reducing the amount of artificial additives and preservatives that we consume, so in today's episode we run through ingredients in four different branded ice blocks (and we’re not afraid to name and shame!). You will most likely be horrified by the chemical craziness that hides inside many brightly coloured ice blocks. It totally blows us away that children are given the chance to buy these ice blocks throughout the day. Or worse, handed them as rewards at school sports events, birthday parties and more. What’s more, they then go back to class and are told to focus, sit still and learn. Did you know that (alarmingly) up to 80% of a teacher’s days can be spent controlling behaviour in the classroom due to hyperactivity. Don't be alarmed, we always have an option or two, because no one want to miss out, right! We are excited to say that there are a couple of fantastic, and super yummy choices out there. Proud and Punch and Smooze are among our favourites. There are other 'ok-ish' options as well, that are much better choices than the chemical mess above. The standard lemonade icy-pole being one of them. 18 May 2023 | 187: Jo's Gut Health Journey | 00:33:27
The road to getting my gut health on track has been a long one, not going to lie! And the reality is I think it will be a lifelong commitment for me to maintain good gut integrity and to be honest, sometimes I fall off the wagon of doing the things I should, to support my gut, and then I have to get back on that wagon and correct it. What initially started this journey for me was learning all that I had through running our business here at Additive-Free Lifestyle. Over the years we have spoken to many gut health experts which got me thinking about my own gut health and gave me the insight to recognise that something wasn’t great with my own gut microbiome. Yes, even me who lives additive-free and has a low-tox environment and does all the things to support my body to stay healthy can still suffer with gut issues. In this episode we are so glad to have Wendy as our guest, who shares her fulfilling journey towards a better version of herself! Wendy shares her wellness journey that began four years ago, when she had lost all zest for life. Not only was she overweight she was also floundering through her days, until she decided to join an event where she heard Cindy O'Mara speak and this was what ignited her inspiring journey that she revels until today and which she continues to champion. Wendy has started her own podcast with the goal of being able to change her life for the better. She has lost 43 kilos and enjoys being down by 5 dress sizes, now being a size 18 (almost size 16) when she used to be a size 26-28, the lightest and fittest she’s been, especially now that she is 48 years old. She was also able to batter her various health concerns such as anemia and type 2 diabetes especially after she had hysterectomy . We know from personal experience how overwhelming and confusing the subject of additives and preservatives can be, so today we are lucky enough to be talking to Alisa about all the details! We get all the goss on MSG, including the common types of food to lookout for, in finding this nasty little ingredient. We hear about the marketing secrets and labelling laws that still allow MSG in our food under stealth names or numbers. Alisa talks about what goes on chemically within the body when you eat MSG and how it is processed through the system. We hear about the bio availability of two completely different types of MSG, one being synthetic and one being perfectly formed in nature. You won’t want to miss our conversation about how MSG interferes with your taste bud receptors and tricks your appetite into thinking you’re still hungry! Alisa really enforces the need to become ingredient detectors, when your children are young as normal food like vegetables, just can’t compete with the taste of MSG once that taste has been established. There are various behavioural issues linked to MSG and we talk about how food has dramatically changed over the last 50 years, and what you can do to take your diet back to nature.

16 Jun 2016 | 6: Dog Food and Natural Skin Care with Adele McConnell | 00:25:50
In this episode we talk to Adele McConnell about her love of animals, her motivation behind her ebook - Delicious Doggy Dishes and we discuss her passion for all natural skin care. Whilst Adele is a passionate vegan, that does not mean her dogs are. It might seem a little strange to some people that a vegan would be so interested in dog food, but after listening to this podcast you will have a different opinion of store bought dog food (we know that we do) and why it is so important to feed our dogs a balanced diet. Adele explains it in the perfect way - are we feeding our dogs a whole bunch or 'junk food'? Are your dogs smelly, fat, have rotten teeth, or all of the above? Let Adele explain to you just how easy it is to get rid of these heath issues, and we are not sure about you, but our dogs are just as much a part of our family as our kids, so we are now on the path to feeding them the healthiest food possible (and this is no longer dry kibble!). She generously passes on a wealth of information related to taking care of your four legged friends. Her passion is contagious and Tracey has already made a few recipes from Adele's book, Delicious Doggy Dishes- which you can find here. And Lucy loved them all. But we didn't only discuss dog food, we also talked to Adele about the importance of looking after your skin. We chatted about the importance of using natural skin care, and how the food we eat can either help or hinder your skin routine. At the end of the day, our skin is our largest living organ and needs nourishing just as much as the rest of our body. Adele explains how eating the right food, or in her words, "adding all the good things into our diets" can benefit us is so many ways. You will absolutely love this episode, so please check it out. 28 Jun 2016 | 8: Let's talk Additives with Monique from The Nourished Psychologist | 00:35:32
In this weeks episode of The Whole Circle we interview Monique from The Nourished Psychologist. She is an amazing mum to three beautiful children, and has made the transition to an additive free family after reading a post about additives in today's food. Monique shares her battle with Crone's disease, and how eating a diet free from processed (additive filled) foods, as well as maintaining a gluten, white sugar and dairy free diet, has helped her manage this illness and turned her health around. Before starting to eat additive free Monique didn't even know how to boil an egg, and would rely on a range of packet mixes to help her cook for her family. But after realising just how bad additives and preservatives are for her (and her family) she started to cook from scratch. Monique shares her insight into how she made the transition, how she started to learn to cook, and how she is now cooking a range of things that a few years ago, she wouldn't even attempt to do. Whilst she didn't have any major behavioural issues with her children, she has noticed a massive change in her kids since removing additives from their diets. Monique shares her unique formula and talks you through how to pack a beautiful, healthy, fun filled lunchbox in under five minutes. You will love this, it is the perfect formula and can be adapted to suit any family Jo & Tracey x Remember you can subscribe to our podcasts on iTunes and Stitcher. 23 Nov 2017 | 92: Why You Should Start A doTERRA Business | 00:18:18
If you have followed us for a while you will know that we are super excited by essential oils, especially the company doTERRA. It fills our heart with joy, it has allowed us financial freedom to expand our business, it has given us the opportunity to travel and it has provided us with numerous ways to improve our additive free lives - past just flavouring food. doTERRA is different. We don't know how to describe it, but it just is. Some might sit there and roll their eyes..."but they are a billion dollar company so it must be about the money." Well, after you hear the founders story, learn where they started from, learn that they turned down investors (who wanted majority control), learn that they instead mortgaged themselves to the hilt and created doTERRA from the ground up, learn that they didn't pay themselves a cent for around 13 months...you begin to understand that this company is about love, respect and integrity... and very little to do with the money - it is truly outstanding! Don't get us wrong, we are not saying that money isn't important, because the reality is, that of course it is. WE ALL need money to survive, but that is another amazing this about this company - it allows thousands of families the financial freedoms that you only dream of, but they do it in a way that it not sleazy or pushy. Sharing the benefits of essential oils is powerful. It’s really clear to us that the founders of doTERRA have people at heart, rather than profits. With a vision of offering families all over the world the benefits of essential oils, they are well on their way to achieving that vision. Whether you’re wanting to set up a small business or simply register as a customer, everyone gets wholesale prices (25% off) We’ve made it really easy to register for a wholesale account! 10 Aug 2023 | 199: Your Third Space – The Importance of Transitions | 00:40:07
The Third Space may not be something you have ever heard of before, but it’s really important part of our everyday lives. Years ago we attended a doTERRA Leadership Conference and we heard Dr Adam Fraser talk about his theory of the third space and it really intrigued us and has been something we have both implemented into our lives with great benefit.
