The Cosmic Mind and the Esoteric Wisdom Beyond Science, Dr. Tom Cheetham | Mind Meld 400
02:11:42
Philosopher, Scientist, Author and mystic, Dr. Tom Cheetham enters the mind meld.
Like nearly all of my favorite thinkers, Tom holds multiple kinds of wisdom. He has a rigorous academic background in philosophy and science. He even spent years as a biology and environmental studies professor. But, even with all of that technical expertise, Tom still thirsted for something more, something beyond the material. That something more arrived in the form of mythopoetic geniuses like author and psychologist, James Hillman, Carl Jung and, especially, philosopher and author Henry Corbin. The above wizarding triad led Tom to a decades-long on-going obsession with understanding the visionary, and the imaginal. The realm Corbin called the "mundus imaginalis."
Functional medicine doctor and best-selling author, Will Cole enters the mind meld! In this one, we riff on intuition, inflammation, the connection between mind and body, and autoimmune disorders.
We also discuss the surprising role of trauma and shame in physical health and more.
Mind Meld 1 | Android Jones on Art, Purpose, Technology and Personal Transformation
01:07:29
If you want to know what The Third Eye Drops show is all about, look no further than is Android Jones.
Android’s otherworldly collection of psychedelic masterworks are awesome to look at, sure, but they're more than just images. Each work is a rabbit hole unto itself. You can (and I have) sit there and dissect his pieces pixel by pixel, it's epic stuff. Even so, Android refers to his art as mere “residue" of a deep ecstatic revelry he comes into contact with when he takes up the pen. As he says in our conversation, "my art is how meditate and my art has always been the way I access the spirit of creation."

The very idea of an "episode zero" causes a revolving Pizza Pizzaz-like cycle of anxiety and conflict in my ego. I get that anxious indigestion in the old bowls because I know this is the place where I'm supposed to hook you in and make you excited about this show and tell you about all the great things and people we’re going to cover here and all of that self-promotional jazz. How do you not make that awkward and contrived?
Genuine enthusiasm, that's how!
Luckily I've got that. I really am excited to present all humans with the desire and requisite hearing ability what I'd classify as some pretty spectacular, life-affirming and entertaining mind melds with some of my favorite minds.

We talk philosophical honesty, whether or not we're connected to a cosmic mind, why mystery is the highest form of truth, the difference between fate and destiny, why altering your context is magical, and more!
Making sense of the human condition is, at best, a juggling act. Making sense of the human condition within a hyper-connected info-sphere that panders to your bias and base instincts… that’s an emergent, unsolvable sense-making puzzle that we’re all left to cope with.
Luckily, there are existential balms in the form of human beings like Alexander Beiner. He commands a wide breadth of knowledge across many disciplines — philosophy, psychology, sociology, and spirituality, to name a few. He blends them all together beautifully in this mind meld and throughout his new book, The Bigger Picture. Early in his career, Federico invented the microprocessor for Intel. He went on to have a multi-decade, highly successful career in tech. From surviving being injected with poisonous Amazonian frog venom, to enduring weeks of neurofeedback meditation in an isolation chamber, Luke has scoured the earth for the most cutting edge as well as ancient technologies of healing and personal transformation.
That moment before you consume a heroic dose of mushrooms is surreal. You know your mind is about to be blown in unknowable ways, you know you can't possibly be prepared for what's to come. Ultimately though, it comes down to one of life's truly rare binary decisions -- Chomp down the deceptively humble dry nasties or don't.
This is a tale about the first time I chose to send them down the hatch. It was, without question, one of the most profound, life-changing, ego-obliterating, brain-melting occasions of my life.

He eventually recovered, reconciled with his family, and got his business back on track, but the story doesn’t stop there. Even after over a decade of sobriety and being a functioning member of society, something about Tom’s perception changed permanently. He’s able to see and interact with what seem to be hidden layers of reality. He sees what appear to be holographic projections, mathematical objects, fields, higher geometry, and, yes, beings.
Tom calls this mode of perception “upsight.” But these aren’t just claims — Tom’s brain and abilities have been studied. In fact, there’s a paper undergoing the peer review process that seems to verify that Tom is interacting with something strange.

Psychological Alchemy, the Hermes Archetype and Carl Jung
00:23:43
What if we have “the gods” all wrong? What if they’re not bygone superstitions of ancient cultures, but living archetypes that are endemic to the human psyche?
Mythopoetic thinkers like psychiatrist, Carl Jung argued just that. But there’s one archetype that Jung and many others were (and are) particularly interested in. The Greeks called him Hermes, the Romans, Mercury.
What is about this figure that captivates the curiosity of so many great minds? What does the archetype really symbolize? Why does Hermes stay in the zeitgeist? Why is he associated with the phenomenon of synchronicity? Why did Jung place him at the center of both the alchemical process and individuation? Tom Campbell began researching states of consciousness with Bob Monroe (Journeys Out Of The Body, Far Journeys, and The Ultimate Journey) at Monroe Laboratories in the early 1970s where he and a few others were instrumental in getting Monroe’s laboratory for the study of consciousness up and running. These early drug-free consciousness pioneers helped design experiments, developed the technology for creating specific altered states, and were the main subjects of study (guinea pigs) all at the same time. Campbell has been experimenting with, and exploring the subjective and objective mind ever since. For the past thirty years, Campbell has been focused on scientifically exploring the properties, boundaries, and abilities of consciousness.
During that same time period, he has excelled as a working scientist, a professional physicist dedicated to pushing back the frontiers of cutting edge technology, large-system simulation, technology development and integration, and complex system vulnerability and risk analysis. Presently, and for the past 20 years, he has been at the heart of developing US missile defense systems.

Mind Meld 2 | Android Jones on Art, Purpose, Technology and Personal Transformation (Part 2)
01:22:19
Welcome back my friends, I’m so glad you returned for hit number two of this Android Eye Drop grand-opening extravaganza!
I definitely enjoyed this entire conversation, but this is absolutely the more heroic, treasure-filled dose of the two.

Colin is a musician, podcaster, and artist most well-known for playing in the band Circa Survive.
