13 Oct 20224: signs of an abusive relationship00:41:21

And we are back from the unannounced hiatus—I am back, rather! Sorry if that triggered anyone's abandonment issues.

Though the internet is saturated with information about abuse, this episode lists down common signs of abuse that people don’t immediately notice until later on. Justine Danielle talks about why people stay in these kinds of relationships as well as what we can do to help that one friend to escape their toxic, manipulative, narcissistic partner.

11 Apr 2024the value of intrinsic motivation in dealing with fatphobia00:30:00

I promise I tried my best not to sound angry lol but in this episode, I dissect Liezl Chu’s self-help advice directed at fat women (like herself) since it went viral and led to mixed opinions among different creators. I talk about which points ring true (such as how slim women are favored more than overweight ones) and which points spew utter BS that we need to collectively unlearn. I also discuss the importance of setting goals that are grounded on one’s intrinsic motivation more than extrinsic motivation.

25 Jan 20222: attachment styles and the importance of vulnerability01:26:08

TW: physical and psychological abuse

One of the most interesting and easiest concepts to understand in psychology is the attachment theory. The idea is simple: our relationship with our primary caregiver in childhood shapes the way we explore our relationships. Depending on how much of our needs were met, this leads to 4 outcomes in our attachment: secure, anxious, avoidant, and disorganized. In this episode, we discuss how attachment styles impact all our other relationships, as well as how we can cope with problems that arise from insecure attachment.

15 Nov 20229: aldub nation and celebrity worship00:32:17

This week’s podcast episode is an attempt to understand the psyche of certain Aldub fanatics who recently went viral for exhibiting odd, cultish behavior. We now ask the question: where do we draw the line between fan clubs and cults?

The journal I talk about in this podcast is called “FANatics: Systematic literature review of factors associated with celebrity worship, and suggested directions for future research” published in 2018 by Dr. Samantha K. Brooks.

28 Feb 2024on the weaponization of therapy speak00:23:47

Here are some of my thoughts on how using therapy speak becomes a problem, and what we could do to address the hyper-individualism that comes out of exploiting the language of mental that we learn from therapy and social media.

21 Mar 2024questions to ask instead of ‘are my feelings valid?’00:23:24

Online communities have become an avenue for people to seek emotional support, and the internet turns into a public jury that determines whether what we are feeling is valid or not. While this can be helpful, focusing on how valid our feelings are in the eyes of others can get in the way of trusting our own judgment. On this episode, I share some introspective questions you can ask yourself instead of, ‘Are my feelings valid?’
