16 Mar 2017Myanmar Part 2: Inle Lake to Bagan and on to Mandalay01:03:33
Last week on the podcast, we took you from Yangon to the Golden Rock, back to Yangon and we were headed on an overnight bus to Inle Lake right as we finished the episode. This week, we're picking up where we left off. We share what our 12 hour overnight bus from Yangon to Inle was like, and what we did in 3 days in Inle, including an entire day spent in the pouring rain. After Inle Lake, we take you to Mandalay where we explored the city and took in the U-Bein bridge at sunset, before making our way by bus to Bagan. Bagan is probably the most well known and photographed place in Myanmar, and it was one of the main reasons that we were (well, mainly Amanda) drawn to Myanmar. With over 2000 pagodas in the area, Bagan is a very unique part of the world. We spent 3 days exploring by ebike, and we take you around as we explore pagoda after pagoda, sunrise, sunset and everything else in between. Unfortunately, our time in began ended with a nasty dose of food poisoning, which made our last few days in Mandalay less exciting than we would have hoped. We share what that experience was like, our overall impressions of Mynmar, things to consider if you decide to go, and much more. Enjoy! 12 Nov 2015Driving From London to Mongolia: The Adventure of a Lifetime With Felix Mantz01:15:38
This summer Felix took part in one of the craziest "races" in the world. Driving from the U.K. all the way to Ulan-Ude in eastern Russia via Mongolia. It's called the Mongol Rally.
Every year, a few hundred people from around the world buy cheap cars in the U.K. and set off on the trip of a lifetime. And after listening to this, you may just be one of those people next year.
Going through daily grind tends to slowly sap the life out of you, and nothing counteracts the tedium like a BIG ASS ADVENTURE.
Felix shares some amazing stories:

Being momentarily held at gunpoint
Getting stuck in a river as the car slowly flooded
Finding ways to fix a car after a crash in Turkmenistan
Playing backgammon, and getting to know locals all over Central Asia
and so many more!

We go beyond fun stories to touch on how adventure can impact your life, and how much more ALIVE you feel when you bust out of your normal routine.

26 Jan 2017How to Travel for Yourself00:37:15
Have you ever planned a trip, but felt less than excited about what the guide book recommends? Or have you visited an attraction that everyone was talking about and thought to yourself "what's the big deal?"? On this episode, we are discussing traveling for yourself. This came up for us quite a bit last month as we planned our trip to Myanmar. We bought a guidebook and began to look at the recommended things to do, trying to filter out what we actually wanted to do and what would actually give us enjoyment. The thing that we struggle with is this idea that you "have' to see something. That you haven't really experienced a city or country if you don't see the top attractions. So, we're tackling how to deal with this, how to figure out what you like + don't like, and ultimately, how to enjoy your travels a little bit more. This episode of the podcast is brought to you by YOU - this listener of the show! We just changed up our rewards on Patreon, and becoming a supporter of the show has never been better. 25 May 2017Japan Part 2: Fujiyoshida, Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima00:56:14
We pick up where we left off last week during our time in Japan with us leaving Tokyo for the town of Fujiyoshida and beautiful views of the iconic Mt Fuji. From there we made the most of our JR Rail Passes on the Shinkansen bullet train and traveled to touristy Kyoto where there's lots to see and do! We learned some Japanese history, including the role Shintoism played in shaping Japanese culture, visited the famous Thousand Torii Gates, and took in a beautiful traditional tea ceremony! One of the highlights of our entire trip was our visit to Harry Potter World in Osaka, where we marveled at how quiet Japanese theme parks seemed in comparison to those we've visited in North America. Our last stop before our return to Tokyo was Hiroshima. The city's tragic past is beautifully commemorated with memorials and museums, giving visitors much to reflect on. We also got a chance to take in an exciting baseball game, which was an interesting juxtaposition against knowing the history of the horrific events that took place there during WWII. In addition to what we did in each of the cities, on this episode we talk about the benefits of purchasing a JR Rail Pass before your visit, our experiences with the Shinkansen bullet train, the benefits and challenges of visiting a country with a language barrier, how we decided which attractions to visit, and how our interest in learning about World History has increased through travel as opposed to when we learned it in a classroom setting. Japan has quickly climbed to the top of the list as one of our favourite countries and we wrap up the episode by sharing some cultural observations, tips for dining there on a budget and general takeaways when planning a trip to this fantastic country!   Enjoy!
31 Jan 2019Guatemala Part 1: Antigua00:41:50

We've been in Antigua working, eating and exploring for the last 3 weeks, and on this episode we share why we decided to come to Guatemala for a month, why we chose Antigua, and our first impressions of this beautiful little city! We also talk about what we've done so far, including hiking Pacaya Volcano, visiting Caoba Farms, going on a coffee tour, and eating as much as we can! Finally, we talk about what Antigua has been like from the perspective of a digital nomad, challenges we've had with wifi and working, and more!  Enjoy! Ryan and Amanda have both recently decided to go on solo trips. They started with ideas and ended up with too many options and a lot of confusion. By focusing in on what they initially wanted, and by sorting through some illogical ideas, they have narrowed in on destinations they are both really excited about.
In this episode you will hear about how to narrow in on what you really want from your trip and how to avoid common thinking traps when it comes to planning a trip that leads you to confusion and inaction. If you’ve been wanting to go on a trip, started planning and gotten stuck, this is the episode for you!

13 Jul 2017A Week Exploring Seoul & Visiting the DMZ ft. Brock Groombridge00:42:51
Our last stop on our Asian adventure was the South Korean capital of Seoul, where we spent one week. The city exceeded our expectations with its cool neighbourhoods, delicious food, and beautiful scenery and architecture! We started our visit staying in the Dongdaemun neighbourhood from where we visited the Seoul Tower and Seoul Fortress Wall, and appreciated the quiet seclusion you can get right in the city by visiting the mountains. We took in some more cool neighbourhoods including Gangnam and Myeongdong and ate some great street food, noting how clean the stalls seemed in comparison with other market stalls in Asia. After meeting up with Backpacker Brock we traveled together to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) at the North Korean border, where we got to hear the story of a North Korean refugee and better understand the reality of how the contention between the two countries affects the physical border. On this episode we talk about what we did in Seoul including the delicious meals we ate, the cool neighbourhoods we visited, and our thoughts and feelings on our visit to the DMZ.   If you enjoy the podcast, join the community on Facebook, Instagram + sign up for the monthly newsletter. 03 Dec 20154 Things You Can Learn Better Abroad00:46:22
Do you feel unexcited by the idea of going to university or college? Do you feel like school has killed your love of learning? You're not alone.
The idea of going travelling right after high school wasn't something that either Amanda or Ryan considered, but after having completed university and going travelling, they've realized how much travel taught them that school wasn't able to teach them, or didn't teach them well.
On this episode, they discuss:

Language learning
History
Social skills and communication
Finances and budgeting

Did you learn a language in high school or university, but feel frustrated because you still can't speak it fluently? Did you learn about history simply to regurgitate the information out for a test, and then forgot about it? Do you struggle with meeting new people and interacting with people who are different from yourself? A budget? What's a budget?
Travelling gives you a different perspective on learning a language, and shows you that learning a language can be fun and fulfilling. Every day abroad can be a history lesson, and history is actually super interesting when you experience it first hand. Travelling gives you the opportunity to meet hundreds of people from around the world, and interact with them at a deeper level. Finally, travel teaches you how to budget because you only have so much money and you are forced to choose what you want to do with it each day. The value of your money becomes completely different when you're abroad.

On this episode, we talk about why we decided to base ourselves in Mexico City, how we went about finding somewhere to live, what life in Mexico City is like, why we loved living in Mexico City, what to do if you're visiting Mexico City, some of our favorite restaurants in Mexico City, and more.  Enjoy! After a number of months on the road, Peter made his way to LA where he started a new career, and ended up finding himself back into the same spot as he was in DC. So, for the second time, Peter decided to quit his job to bike across the country. And this time, him and his wife decided to take all their work on the road and head out for 2.5 years with their dog. Peter shares what it was like to travel by bike with a dog, a remote job, and his wife. He shares challenges that they overcome, highlights of the trip, low lights of the trip, and what he learned along the way. We also talk about the decision to stop the biking trip despite not making it to all of the lower 48 states. Many of us can identify with the desire to stop, but it can be hard when you've attached a certain identity to yourself. Peter shares how biking became not fun for them anymore and how they ultimately made that decision. Enjoy! On this episode of the podcast, Ryan and Amanda look back on 2015. Although they didn't go on any long-term trips, they still managed to travel!
2015 brought forth a work trip for Amanda, and a personal development seminar for Ryan. Amanda also took a trip with a friend she had never traveled with before, and someone she wasn't very close with beforehand. Ryan and Amanda also both took month long solo trips, where they learned so much about travel and themselves.
Join Amanda & Ryan as they go back in time to discuss what they learned in 2015, and how travel played a huge role in their personal development throughout the year.

06 Jul 2017Shaping Your Ideal Life through Travel: A Conversation with Lauren Rudick00:58:40
Lauren Rudick took off on a long term backpacking trip after graduating university as an escape, but found that the trip gave her fantastic insight into the kinds of things she wanted in life moving forward! She had completed her yoga teacher training during an earlier visit to Mexico, and after learning about a variety of yoga career opportunities beyond teaching at a conference she attended while teaching English in China, decided she wanted to pursue a career in the industry. On facing an adjustment and some reverse culture shock after returning home to Canada, Lauren realized she wanted to integrate her chosen career path with her love of travel and take her teaching internationally. Lauren has let her love of yoga take her around the world to places like Bali and Europe. She founded the Yoga Academy International school with the goal of raising the standard in yoga education, and is currently living in Costa Rica offering a number of courses and retreats. On this episode we talk about why Lauren started traveling and how she became interested in yoga teacher training, the importance of knowing what you don't like and how this can contribute to learning what you ultimately want in life, and the logistical and social challenges in maintaining a travel based-lifestyle.  Enjoy! 10 Aug 2017Living Nowhere - Conversations About a Nomadic Lifestyle00:27:42
When talking to people who aren't familiar with a nomadic lifestyle, it can sometimes be tricky to convey the Digital Nomadism as a career path where you can work as many hours (if not more!) than the average 9 to 5er based out of a single place. Sometimes family and friends expect you to settle down eventually, and can react a little strangely to the news that you plan to continue traveling long-term as a lifestyle choice. They may also get envious fantasizing about the "glamorous" life you're leading traveling the world, and it's important to stay honest and positive when conveying the pros and cons of your lifestyle along with what you do. On this episode we talk about our experience being without a single home base for the past 14 months, some of the pros and cons of the Digital Nomad lifestyle, how it's taught us to value some stability, and our tips on navigating conversations with family and friends who may not be familiar with the lifestyle. 15 Jun 2017Can Travel Expectations Influence Your Experience?00:32:02
A visit to Taiwan came highly recommended to us by friends as a budget friendly destination with great food and interesting attractions, but a flight in to a more inconvenient airport, misrepresented accommodation, and less than beautiful scenery quickly started to cause our experience to not live up to our expectations of the visit. In keeping an open mind while exploring more of the country, and employing a few tactics like seeking out foods and activities we enjoy, we were able to turn our experience around and came away really enjoying our trip. This change in our experience made us think about how our high expectations coming into Taiwan may have caused us to inaccurately weight our few initial negative experiences, and how expectations in general can influence the way you view a place. On this episode we talk about how factors like people's opinions, where you're coming from, and how long you're going to stay in a place can influence your expectations going into the destination, and ultimately your experience there. We discuss some tactics on how you may be able to turn around your view of a place where you're initially having negative experience by implementing a few strategies like establishing realistic expectations before you travel, seeking out foods and activities you enjoy, and planning your travel route around cost of living or a trip highlight. Keeping an open mind and working from your own experiences rather than overall recommendations from others can go a long way in helping you to make the most of your trip! Enjoy! 05 Apr 2018How to Visit Iceland: Tips and Tricks from Yvette & James00:53:00
Yvette and James recently spent ten days in beautiful Iceland during the winter, and were able to take in some fabulous sites and experience some of the traditional culture. Initially drawn to Iceland as a travel destination because of photos on social media, they decided to visit during the cold winter months after an earlier plan to visit during the summer was cancelled, and made the most of planning their trip using travel blogs and reaching out to AirBnb hosts after popular travel sites didn't seem to offer much help. While they definitely enjoyed their road trip in a rental car and recommend this as the best way to see the country, they had to make some adjustments to the limited daylight hours and sometimes terrible driving conditions that came along with visiting in the winter! On this episode we talk to Yvette and James about their experiences leading up to and during their trip to Iceland, including their itinerary, some of their trip highlights and their awesome New Year's Eve experience. They also chat to us about their packing list must haves, as well as trying some of the local foods, including a rotting shark dish (Hakarl) that was less than appetizing for Yvette. Between trekking to beautiful ice caves, visiting geysers, hunting for geothermal hot springs and diving between tectonic plates, Yvette and James travel stories will probably make Iceland one of your bucket list destinations! 06 Apr 2017Our 2 Months in Bali00:52:18
We spent 2 months in Bali and we're here to share what we did in Bali, where we went, and why we ended spending 2 months there. When we first planned our trip to Asia, we knew we wanted to go to Bali for at least a month! Amanda did her yoga teacher training there back in 2015 and loved it, and she was really excited to take Ryan back there and show him some of her favorite places on the island. We started our trip in Canggu, where Amanda did her yoga teacher training, and we spent our first few days hanging out on the coast, eating good food and practicing yoga before making our way to Ubud where we spent most of the rest of our 2 months. We really set up "life" in Ubud, purchasing memberships at Hubud Coworking space and at The Yoga Barn. Our days were spent eating great, healthy food, practicing yoga and working on some of our bigger projects at Hubud. We did take at least one day each week to explore though! We made a day trip to Seminyak, took a tour to some of the sights around Ubud, spent a day at The Bali Zoo through Voyagin, and took a day trip to Sanur. On this episode, we share why we loved Bali, what we did, and what our 2 months was like there. Enjoy! 19 Oct 2017First Impressions of Mexico City00:27:47
Estamos en Mexico City! Although we weren't quite sure to expect on arriving, our first few days have been great. From our smooth arrival at the airport, our AirBnb exceeding our expectations, indulging in fantastic food, and a great new coworking space, we have really been enjoying ourselves. We've had a few (pleasant) surprises, like noticing how organized the traffic seems in comparison to Asia, and finding a great grocery store that is helping to make the city feel like home. We're trying not to get too comfortable in our space though, and are looking forward to challenging ourselves by exploring the diverse neighbourhoods of the city and primarily interacting with locals in Spanish (however awkward stumbling through conversations in another language may be!) Although there are a lot of things we are looking forward to experiencing, the reality of the recent earthquake is unavoidable, and can literally become apparent as you walk down the street. While most of the city is recovering or back to normal, we sometimes come across building rubble or flowers which reinforces the intensity of the event and the lives lost. Although we were a little nervous about the potential for another earthquake, we have been able to relax after talking to locals and getting used to our environment. We're looking forward to sharing our adventures in this great city going forward as we get settled in. Enjoy!

We always knew that we wanted to settle into one of the place we had travelled to, but never really expected it to be so close to home. We had a plan to spend a summer in the mountains near our former home of Calgary, and over a year later we were still there.
In this episode you’ll learn:

What is like to quit your career and start working in the service industry in a tourist town
What happens to your perspective on a place when you are living there instead of visiting
Where you should go if you are visiting Canmore and Banff
What we miss about living in a small town
Why you should give in to your desire to spend some time living in one of the awesome places that you’ve visited

09 Nov 2017From the Rut to the Ledge: A Conversation with Suzanne Rutledge00:47:54
Suzanne Rutledge and her husband Mitch have always loved international travel, and continued to make it a priority after they had their son Luke. In 2014, during a trip to Chile to celebrate their 40th birthdays, Suzanne and Mitch met a solo female traveler who had been traveling around the world for a year. Inspired by the conversation and her travel stories, Mitch and Suzanne set about planning a long-term adventure for their own family, and were ready to set off less than a year later with Luke, who was seven at the time. Over nine months, the family traveled to New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, India, Kenya, Egypt, Turkey, Croatia, Western Europe, and England, volunteering in some countries along the way as well to give back to the communities they were visiting. The family had the chance to spend nine months together, and made sure to take notes of the things their trip taught them. Luke had the chance to experience different cultures and historical sites first-hand rather than hearing about them in the classroom, and regularly pulls from his experiences now that he's back at school. Suzanne, Mitch and Luke also took steps to simplify their lives after returning from their trip and prioritize family time, and started a travel blog to share their adventures and experiences with family and friends. Suzanne was even inspired to bundle some of her best travel tips with some of their stories and write her book From the Rut to the Ledge. On this episode we talk to Suzanne about the family's inspiration behind taking the trip, and why they decided to prioritize slow travel. We also talk about what it was like to travel with Luke, how he reacted on learning about the family's plan to take the trip, and the differences she now sees in him. Suzanne also discusses the importance of learning from your travel experiences and implementing what you have learnt back into your life when you return home, and how this helped inspire her to write her book. Enjoy! Connect with Suzanne:  You can connect with Suzanne on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram, plus you can check out her Travel Blog and book From the Rut to the Ledge! 11 Aug 2016For The Cult of Travel00:53:51
Is travel too popular? Are expectations and stories about travel inflated? Has travel culture exaggerated the benefits of taking a trip?  This week we respond to an article, "Against The Cult of Travel."  Authors Brett and Kate McKay argue that the popularity of travel has gone too far. That our culture has elevated travel to an almost supernatural level, and we should be more realistic about the value of travel.  We agree, disagree, and add nuance to their arguments: What is the cult of travel?  Is The Hobbit about travel?  Can travel help you improve your life?  Is travel a solution to or an escape from your problems?  Is travel inherently valuable?  And more If you like the podcast, join the community on Facebook. 18 May 2017Japan Part 1: Tokyo00:59:53
We made plans to go to Japan with some friends during their trip to Canada last year, and were looking forward to our visit since we left for Asia in October of 2016. Landing in Tokyo, we were expecting an Asian version of New York City but were surprised by how quiet and orderly everything seemed! We loved the city and learning about Japanese culture by appreciating the kindness of the locals, enjoying the food (we had breakfast sushi for the first time!) and taking in the variety of beautiful cherry blossoms around the city. In the first of our two episodes about our time in Japan, we talk about our stay in Tokyo at the beginning and end of our trip. We jumped in right away with a walking tour which covered the popular Omotesanto and Harajuku neighbourhoods, and had some unique experiences with Becky Gillespie, who has been on the show, showing us around. She took us to the colourful Akihabara anime district, a trendy maid cafe, and a delicious traditional Japanese meal. We had some quintessential Tokyo experiences like visiting Shibuya Crossing and enjoying conveyor belt sushi, and talk about our experience in learning about the new culture around us. We also talk about how every experience we had made us fall in love with the country even more, and how it was bittersweet leaving on the last day.   If you are interested in learning about Japanese culture and the unique experiences Tokyo has to offer, you don't want to miss this episode! 26 Jun 2015Gabriel Wyner on Becoming Fluent Forever00:53:18
Gabriel Wyner is the author of Fluent Forever, the best book on language learning that we've ever read. He's an author, polyglot, former profesional opera singer, has degrees in mechanical engineering and opera, and he successfully funded a series of pronunciation trainers on kickstarter.com.
His ideas on language learning have really changed the way that we are approaching learning spanish. Focusing more on pronunciation and way less on translations. This is the book we wish we had before we spent hundreds of dollars a Rosetta Stone with the idea of learning Spanish before going to South America.
This episode is all about the best methods for learning a language, despelling myths about who is and who isn't a good language learner, and how learning the local language adds to your travels. You'll leave feeling way more capable and inspired to learn a language!
In this episode you will learn:

Why adults are better than children at learning languages
Why you need to learn pronunciation first
That language learning doesn't need to take years
How to make learning languages fun
Learning a language makes your travels more fulfilling
and way more..

31 Aug 2017Choosing a Travel Style that Makes You Happy00:33:04
On last week's episode, we talked with our good friends, Steve and Julia Patterson, where they shared how they figured out their travel style while on their first backpacking trip, and it inspired us to dig deeper into this topic. You often see and hear on the media about how you should go backpacking and how you should want to quite your job to travel the world (heck, we've said it!), and while we've found that experience hugely beneficial to our lives, we've also discovered that that's not how we prefer to travel anymore. On this episode, we share how our preferred travel style has changed; how we went from bouncing around from city to city every couple of days back in 2011, to spending a week or so in one place in 2014, to spending months in the same city on this past trip. We discuss how we found a travel that suits our lifestyle now and how you can also find a travel style that makes you happiest, because at the end of the day, whatever we do should be making us happy. 09 Feb 2017The Reality of Being a Digital Nomad00:40:18
It's been almost 5 months since we left Canada and started this adventure as digital nomads, and we've learned a ton about working remotely and traveling. On this episode, we share the reality of digital nomad life. Before leaving we had both idealized what working + traveling would be like, and we had both imagined it being a lot easier than it's been. In reality, it is awesome to work and travel, but it is still work, and there is the pull to constantly want to explore and see new things. We share what we've learned over the last 5 months, how we've found a routine on the road, and how we figured out what routine works best for us. 25 Nov 2016Airbnb vs. Hostels and Hotels00:46:56
It's a full on accommodation-isode. We break down why we are choosing to stay more and more at Airbnb's, less at hostels, and way less at hotels. We both love staying in hostels. They are a cheap place to spend a night, but there is a lot of other value you get from staying in a dorm room. The social aspect helps you learn what to do in a city and you have a better chance to meet people and have fun experiences with new friends. Lately, we've been staying a lot more at Airbnb's. When we look at what we can get on Airbnb for the price of two beds in a hostel dorm room, it usually blows the hostel away. In Kuala Lumpur, we had a fancy studio apartment for less that the price of two beds in a ten-bed dorm. It's a no-brainer from a comfort perspective, but after staying in Airbnb's for a while we began to feel like we were missing something from almost exclusive hostel travel.  We dig into the different types of accommodation we use and why you shouldn't just listen to your desire for comfort when booking accommodations.  Topics discussed:  Pro's and con's of Airbnb Pro's and con's of hostels Pro's and con's of hotels What's the best value for you as a traveling couple  How to balance comfort with personal development, fun, and excitement If you've never used airbnb before, you can use our link to get $25 of your first stay. http://www.theworldwanderers.com/airbnb/  Show notes featuring links mentioned in the episode can be found at theworldwanderers.com This episode is brought to you by Praxis. 19 Apr 2018Our Trip to Panama!00:39:01
We decided to take advantage of the recent need to do a visa run and visit Central America, a part of the world that had always caught our attention but we hadn't yet made it to. Within Central America, we were drawn to Panama as we had heard great reviews and wanted to scope it out as a potential place to live in the future. After arriving in Panama City, we went straight to the domestic airport to catch a flight to Bocas del Toro, a popular backpacker destination. We managed to stay away from the crowds, however, by spending our time at the beautiful and eco-friendly Al Natural resort, where we loved the family style meals and time we spent relaxing. On returning to Panama City after a few days, we took in one of its main tourist attractions, the Panama Canal, and found it fascinating to watch the ships maneuver the locks, learned about the recent expansion that allowed for the passage of even larger freighters, and walked along the city's boardwalks and causeways. On this episode, we talk about our trip to Panama, including some of the reasons we decided to go, how we got to Bocas del Toro and our experience on Isla Bastimentos. Even after we took in the Panama Canal once we got back to the city, we know there's plenty more in Panama to explore, and think that we would definitely be able to live here for a while in the future! 05 Oct 2017Surprise Travel Destinations with Denise Chaykun of Magical Mystery Tours00:53:06
On this episode of the podcast we chat with Denise Chaykun, the founder of Magical Mystery Tours, which is a travel company that plans your vacation and itinerary to a surprise destination based on a few preferences you indicate. She was inspired to start the company after a friend asked her to design his vacation based on her travel experience because he didn't have the time to plan it, and she decided to keep the destination a secret until he got to the airport. From its beginning, Denise designed Magical Mystery Tours to build custom experiences based on her clients' travel styles, what they want to get out of their vacation, and if they want to be pushed out of their comfort zone, and feels greatly rewarded when Magical Mystery Tours gets feedback from repeat clients that their vacation fit their personalities perfectly. Denise discovered her love of travel when a job she worked after graduating needed her to travel a lot, and recently completed a longer term road trip in the US with her husband and two dogs, living in AirBnbs along the way. After discovering their ideal travel lifestyle of living in new places for about a month at a time to establish routine, and visiting places like Denver, Texas and (her favourite) Prince Edward Island, Canada, Denise and her husband decided they were ready to slow down and be based out of one place for a while. Now living in Philadelphia, Denise and her husband still make travel a priority by not letting their house and lifestyle take up the majority of their time and financial resources, so they can still be flexible and travel when the opportunity arises. On this episode we talk about the inspiration behind Denise's travel company Magical Mystery Tours and how they design great vacations for their clients, the appeal of traveling to a surprise destination where you don't know what awaits you, and some of the places Magical Mystery Tours has sent clients that are not usually on people's radar. We also talk to Denise about her recent nomadic lifestyle, the decision to stop traveling, and how you can still make traveling a priority even if you are based out of one place. Enjoy! 03 Aug 2017You Don't Need a Long Term Plan to Make a Big Life Change00:39:05
Whether it's a big trip or a new business idea, it can be difficult to take the decision to make a big change in life. The potential reaction from family and friends and uncertainty in what lies ahead can give us a lot to think about, and our fears can often keep us from taking the leap. We experienced these feelings when making the decision to quit our jobs and take a long term trip through South America in 2013. We were afraid of what a gap in our resume might mean for our careers when we returned and whether we were making the right decision. Looking back at the opportunities the trip provided and where we are today as a result, we are so happy we made the decision to go! On this episode we talk about how people can often feel as though they need a perfect plan in place before making a big life change, travel related or otherwise, but how this isn't necessarily required. We also talk about pursuing what you want to do as opposed to what others say you "should" be doing, and the importance of realizing that you can always change your mind if you realize that what you decided to pursue isn't for you, but that the important thing is knowing you tried. Our advice: just go for it! Enjoy! If you enjoy the podcast, join the community on Facebook, Instagram + sign up for the monthly newsletter. The girls decided to start their business and after a brief setback and a change in tack, have been enjoying planning and hosting yoga retreats with teachers from around the world. Daniela and Azma maintained focus on allowing the business to grow naturally and organically, which led to them being able to expand their retreats from their initially planned region of only Sri Lanka to international destinations such as Nicaragua, Cambodia, Mexico and Bali. The girls have used their travel experience to help research and select for ideal retreat locations, and have learned a lot about the patience and optimism it can take to run a business along the way. On this episode, we talk to them about everything from how they got Adzenture started, the lessons they’ve learned along the way, how the expectations of running a business differ from the reality, and Sri Lanka as an up and coming destination for yoga retreats. 21 Apr 2016Coming Home After a Trip | Our Struggles & What We Learned00:52:36
Are you planning a backpacking trip and wondering what coming home is going to be like? Or, have you returned from a trip and suffered from post-travel depression? We've been there too.
On this episode of the podcast, we discuss what it was like for us to come back home after our 2 big backpacking trips, as well as what it was like returning from our 1 month solo trips. We share how we felt coming home the first time with the expectation that we find a place to live and get "big kid" jobs. We share how it was strange to come home to life being the exact same as we left it. We also contrast that from returning from our second backpacking trip and dramatically changing our lives. Finally, we share what it was like to leave for only a month and return once again.
Have you experienced post-travel depression and struggled with returning home? We'd love to hear from you. Send us an email at info@theworldwanderers.com.

01 Feb 2018Day to Day as a Long-term Traveler with Shalini Kulkarni01:01:01
This week we catch up with our intern Shalini Kulkarni, who has been on the road backpacking in South America since July of 2017. Shalini knew she wanted to do a longer term trip since graduating university, and decided the time was right when she finished paying off her student loan after working for a few years. Paring down an initially ambitious travel plan, Shalini landed in Cartagena and has been having a great time learning the travel ropes (and Spanish!) and getting comfortable in South America, allowing some of the initial cautiousness she arrived with to relax. Working for a few years before taking off has allowed Shalini to put some of her trip saving towards developing new hobbies, like a new love for trekking in Peru which has led to her visiting some great lesser known places like the Inca site of Choquequirao and the Guaviare region in Colombia. In addition, Shalini took some measures before the trip that allowed her to save a little extra like downsizing her apartment and getting an travel points credit card which is now allowing her to fly to Asia for only the taxes. On this episode we talk to Shalini about some of the other things she did to budget for her trip before she left, how her travel expectations have lived up to the reality of her day to day travel, some of her trip highlights so far and more. 09 Jun 2016On Leaving: Cities, Jobs & Social Circles00:50:03
Do you want to go traveling, but are afraid of what you'll leave behind? Are you afraid to leave a good job? Your family? A comfortable social circle? We've been there before... and more than once. As we prepare to leave Atlanta after 9 months of being here, we reflect on what it feels like to pick up and leave once again. We've chosen this path time and time again, but that doesn't mean that it's easy. On this episode, we reflect on the other times we have left the city we lived in, and the jobs and friends that were comfortable. We share why we continue to choose to leave, and how it has helped us to grow and shift our perspective. If you enjoy the podcast, join the community on Facebook and sign up for the newsletter. 12 Oct 2017Life Update: Vamos a Mexico00:28:29
We've always wanted to live longer term in a Spanish speaking country, so after a busy summer traveling across Canada and the United States, we are looking forward to staying true to our nomadic roots and heading to Mexico City this Thursday! Although we've had some mixed reactions from family and friends regarding our safety, our friends that have traveled and lived there have nothing but great things to say about the area, and we are looking forward to getting the chance to enjoy some great Mexican food, practicing our Spanish, and getting a chance to establish ourselves and build another home away from home. With that said, we did need to reconsider our travel plans in light of the recent news of the devastating earthquake, and on this episode we talk about how we discussed our safety concerns and decided to move forward with our travel plans. We also discuss about what we're looking forward to, the fun event around which we finalized our travel dates, and make a call out to listeners for recommendations and to let us know if they may be in the area to meet up. Enjoy!
04 Jun 2015Travel Questions: The Answers to Your Not So Frequently Asked Questions00:39:23
On this episode of the podcast, Amanda & Ryan answer travel questions... although these travel questions are not your typical FAQ's about travel. They discuss what it feels like to quit your job and go traveling, where they've seen the best sunsets, how to fund your travels, where they would go if they had a free airline ticket to anywhere in the world, and their least favourite city that they've ever been.

07 Aug 2015Death by Routine00:40:23
Feeling bored with your job? Living for the weekend? Routines get old really fast...
On this episode of the podcast, Ryan and Amanda discuss the concept of "death by routine", which they've deemed as getting so caught up in your day to day life that you literally forget what feeling alive is like. You do the same things day in and day out, waiting for something to change, or things to get better. Stop waiting, and start making those changes happen. Ryan and Amanda share their experiences losing themselves in routines and getting caught up in unfulfilling jobs, and how they have made changes to enjoy their lives and feel present on a day to day basis.

21 Sep 2017How to Create While You Travel00:28:57
You can gain a lot of value by creating content or a project for yourself to pursue while traveling, and can often end up learning a lot about yourself along the way. Combined with wanting to keep her friends and family up to date on her whereabouts and activities during our trip to South America, Amanda decided to use her love of writing to start a travel blog, and journaling during this trip helped Ryan engage with deeper thoughts, like ideas for projects he would enjoy pursuing in the future. Creating gave us a great sense of purpose and accomplishment, and we know we will be able to keep gaining value from this content by having it to look back on in the future. On this episode we talk about how we got started creating content on the road, how it gave us a great sense of purpose and accountability while traveling, and how it brought excitement to our adventures once we starting traveling with additional intention. We also discuss having confidence in knowing your experiences will provide value to others, the importance of creating for yourself first as opposed to creating in the hopes that others will engage with your content, a number of creative channels that work well with long term travel, and how starting a travel podcast has impacted our lives for the better. Enjoy!
