In this episode of The Woof Life Show the podcast for dog lovers, Lauren Farricker chats with Saige Hooker the Mom of Harrison Ford and Babs Fry a Pet Recovery Specialist.

You are visiting relatives and head for a day out and leave your pup with your relatives. You receive a call 15 minutes later that your pup aptly named Harrison Ford has run off. You get back to the home a new and unfamiliar place and start frantically screaming and your pup is nowhere in sight.

What would you do?  This is the situation that Saige found herself in. She lives in LA with Harry and her boyfriend and while visiting her extended family her rescue pup ran off. She made a frantic plea to social media and was quickly given the name of a superhero named Babs Fry.

Babs is a Pet Recovery Specialist who lives in San Diego herself.

The story of this lost pup is a saga but through this story, you will learn as a dog owner that all of your instincts are incorrect when it comes to recovering a lost dog.  Babs teaches us what to do if you lose your own pup or if you encounter a lost dog.  You would be shocked at how wrong the approach most people take is.

19 Nov 2019Dancers and Dogs - An interview with Kelly Pratt Kreidich – Photographer, Co-Creator, and Author of Dancers and Dogs00:28:43

Follow them on social media @dancersanddogs

You can buy the book at www.dancersanddogs.com and  it's also for sale on Amazon as well!

This book is a must-have for any dog lover for an unexpected gift during the holidays

Kelly and her husband had been professional photographers working together for years but an idea was the genesis for going viral and this incredible project: Dancers and Dogs.

They previously took professional photos of dancers and wanted to combine their passion as huge dog lovers. The idea evolved and Dancers and Dogs was created by pairing the simple, clean backgrounds, the simple clothing styles, the lighting. They've created a way to show the lighter side of the dance world, since dancers are often depicted as being so serious, and sometimes even unapproachable or like fairy-tale creatures.

They are donating a portion of their proceeds to Stray Rescue based in St. Louis

18 Oct 2019Sergeant Yeager – 2019 Military Hero Dog our Interview with Caroline Zuendel00:25:17

In this episode of The Woof Life Show the podcast for dog lovers, Lauren Farricker chats with Caroline Zuendel who is the dog mom and handler of Sergeant Yeager who won the 2019 Military Hero Dog Award.

Sergeant Yeager honorably performed combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan as an Improvised Explosive Detection Dog with the United States Marine Corps. Sgt. Yeager has been credited with detecting the locations of dozens of explosive devices. During his three combat tours, Sgt. Yeager participated in over 100 patrols, and was tasked with clearing routes for his fellow Marines. On April 12, 2012, Sgt. Yeager suffered shrapnel wounds from an IED that caused him to lose part of his ear.

He was awarded the Purple Heart for his injuries. Unfortunately, the same explosion took the life of his handler, Lance Corporal Abraham Tarwoe. The pair was virtuously trying to protect the other Marines in the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan. Fellow Marines attest to the unbreakable bond between Tarwoe and Sgt. Yeager. After the attack, Sgt. Yeager was transported back to the U.S. and treated for his injuries until he was stable enough to retire from the USMC. Lance Corporal Tarwoe’s widow was unable to adopt Sgt. Yeager as she would now be raising their infant son alone. Sgt. Yeager was adopted by another Marine Corps family. Today, at 12 years of age, Sgt. Yeager is beginning to show signs of aging, though his spirit is undiminished. Despite his trials and witnessing acts of terrorism, Yeager remains a sweet dog with an infinitely joyful disposition. He has settled in North Carolina with his family, where he is an ambassador for the Project K-9 Hero Foundation, which pays 100% of his medical bills from his sustained injuries. In September of 2019, Sgt. Yeager also received the Medal of Courage Award!

In this episode of The Woof Life Show the podcast for dog lovers, Lauren Farricker chats with Lydia Crochet who is the handler and dog mom to Jeanie to 3-Legged Therapy Dog who won The 2019 Therapy Hero Dog Award at the Hero Dog Awards.

Jeanie is a rescue that was found with a crippled leg running with a pack of dogs in Louisiana. She had a crippled leg which a vet quickly determined needed to be amputated. She was put up for adoption while she was healing and recovering from surgery.  Lydia took one look at her and it was love at first sight.

Jeanie has acted as a certified therapy dog for both her family and for so many people. They work to visit veterans, help children coping with loss and/or traumatic experiences, speaking to children and generally bringing joy wherever they go!

Jeanie has been honored by the Hero Dog Awards because she gives love and comfort to those who need it most. She will pick the person out of the room who needs the most help and approach them. Lydia and Jeanie aim to inspire other counseling, advocacy and law enforcement agencies to consider the benefits of therapy dogs like her.

25 Sep 2019This café has gone to the dogs - Featuring Logan Mikhly – Co Founder of Boris & Horton00:19:19

In this episode of The Woof Life Show the podcast for dog lovers, Lauren Farricker chats with Logan Mikhly the Co-Founder of Boris & Horton.  Boris & Horton is the first dog-friendly cafe in New York located in the East Village.

First off, I chat with Logan about the difference between a dog cafe and a dog-friendly cafe. There is a difference and we want to ensure that we set expectations accordingly. There are no dogs living at the cafe similar to the Asian concept/execution of dog or cat cafes that you've seen on the internet. It is a BYOD or a Bring your own Dog establishment.

Mikhly started the business with her Dad to serve a need that there had to be alternatives to get a cup of coffee with your dog. They wanted to create a business that they wanted to use.

Many events take place at Boris & Horton including adoption events with partners like Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue and Foster Dogs NYC, breed meetups, trivia nights, ice cream socials and so much more.

If you are in New York City, you should visit:  195 Avenue A, New York, NY 10009

31 Jul 2019From Rescue Pup to Surf Champion - Chatting with Cherie the Surf Dog @cheriethesurfdog01:25:29

Welcome to The Woof Life Show - a podcast created for dog lovers, by dog lovers! Hosted by Lauren Farricker.

In this episode, Lauren chats with Dan and Amy Nykolayko who own the charismatic Cherie the Surf Dog. Cherie has an incredible story that at about 3 months old she was rescued through the French Bulldog Rescue Network from Texas. She came to live in San Diego with a foster family and Dan and Amy were delighted to hear that they were in consideration to adopt Cherie. We chat about the fact that many people believe that adopting a frenchie puppy is impossible.

Life adjusted and Cherie began to enjoy her SoCal life. As they acclimated and helped this puppy get more comfortable they brought her to Rosie’s Dog Beach where she took to the ocean like a duck takes to water. They then enrolled in a dog surfing lesson and Amy and Dan realized that Cherie really enjoyed being together in the ocean.

They trained for a couple of years and began to get more competitive and began to compete in surfing competitions. Many people think that the pups are just the athletes but most people do not know that their humans or handlers have to support and work with the pup to ensure that they are ready. Cherie is now a surfing champion and has competed in more than 16 competitive surfing competitions.

If you’ve always wanted to learn about how and why dogs surf, how to get a French bulldog puppy as a rescue or how to dress your pup in pup-tactic fashion, this is the interview for you!

06 Aug 2019Cool Treats for Dogs - Chatting with Matt & Meg Meyer of The Bear and the Rat00:45:30

Welcome to The Woof Life Show - a podcast created for dog lovers, by dog lovers! Hosted by Lauren Farricker.

In this episode, Lauren chats with Matt and Meg Meyer who are the founders of The Bear and the Rat. The Bear and the Rat is a company that creates natural dog fro-yo that is healthy for your pup. Did you know that ice cream is really unhealthy for your dog due to the lactose? Most times it makes pups feel quite ill.

Matt and Meg had a dream that they wanted to create a healthy alternative that is actually good for your pup, the craziest part of this story is that Matt conceived of this idea when he was eight years old!! The pup-muses behind this business were a lhasa apso named Quimby Fosse affectionately known as "The Bear" and Laika Ignatius a rat terrier who Meg and Matt referred to as "The Rat."

They created the company and were seen on Shark Tank where the sharks even tried the human-grade dog fro-yo! These are incredible business owners and my Pixie could not be a bigger fan of their product! If she could write love letters to Meg and Matt, she would!

You can find The Bear and the Rat at pet stores and at your local Whole Foods! It is a great way for your pup to cool off with the hot summer sun without compromising health.

22 Oct 2019Vodka for Dog People – Tito’s Handmade Vodka A Conversation with Elizabeth “Beth” Bellanti – Program Manager of Vodka for Dog People00:38:41

In this episode of The Woof Life Show the podcast for dog lovers, Lauren Farricker chats with Elizabeth “Beth” Bellanti who is the Program Manager of Vodka for Dog People on behalf of Tito’s Handmade Vodka.

If you're looking for a vodka label that also supports dog welfare, look no further than Tito’s Handmade Vodka. Tito’s Handmade Vodka has created Vodka for Dog People, which is their organization that supports dog rescue, animal welfare organizations, and spay neuter programs across America.  Looking out for dogs, in particular, has been at the core of Tito’s mission over the past 20 years. Bertito "Tito" Beveridge II first started distilling his now famous vodka in a shack in Austin, Texas.

Tito always brought his dog with him to the shack to work all day, where he would put food out and noticed that a handful of strays were being attracted by the food.  Tito was struggling to get his business off the ground but he didn't let that stop him from caring for homeless dogs.  He then worked to get as many dogs re-homed as possible.

Beth joined Tito early on within his journey and because she came from a family where they were all rescuers. Beth worked with Tito and the staff to rescue, re-home and get necessary vet care for the pups including spay and neuter surgeries.  Dogs and animal advocacy are intrinsically aligned with success for the Tito’s brand.

Over the past 20 years, Tito’s Handmade Vodka has re-homed over 90 dogs out of their corporate headquarters/distillery. Vodka for Dog People has over 2300 partnerships per year with animal welfare programs. Tito’s Handmade Vodka continues to be a dog-friendly company that is committed to solving for animals in needs, including resources to spay and neuter.

You can shop at https://www.titosvodka.com/dogs/ to get great products for your pup and to support Vodka for Dog People’s philanthropic goals.  All net proceeds from our web store benefit the nonprofits that Vodka for Dog People support.

You can follow them at @vodkafordogpeople on Instagram.

Enjoy our conversation with Beth from Tito’s Handmade Vodka - drink vodka and help dogs, thats our motto!

21 Oct 2019There are No Bad Dogs - A Conversation with Matt Beisner of Zen Dog in LA and the star of Nat Geo Wild’s Dog Impossible Show00:44:07

In this episode of The Woof Life Show the podcast for dog lovers, Lauren Farricker has a conversation with Matt Beisner of  Zen Dog in LA and the star of Nat Geo Wild’s Dog Impossible Show

Note to my listeners, I am obsessed with Dog Impossible and I am so excited to chat with Matt to learn more about the show.

Beisner, owner of THE ZEN DOG http://www.thezendog.com, a cutting-edge dog facility in downtown Los Angeles, believes there are no bad dogs and knows every dog is capable of transformation. Through his work at THE ZEN DOG, Beisner risks his life and limbs for these animals because, as he says, “I used to be like them.”  After his own life was saved through personal transformation, he rescued a dog, found his calling and came to understand that every relationship, especially that which you have with your dog, only works if it’s based on Respect, Trust and Love.

Beisner’s background makes him a fascinating person to chat with, Matt previously struggled with substance abuse and he found himself in jail. While recovering after getting out of jail, Beisner was challenged by an aggressive terrier who was owned by his roommate. That terrier named Kingston proved to be a turning point for him and his transformation. Beisner began to work with this dog and then began to tackle more cases, this was the inception of Zen Dog. Beisner experienced a quick rise to stardom when a celebrity client leveraged Beisner to help with a dog that they were struggling with. His approach that there are no bad dogs make him a final contact for a lot of people who find themselves at their wit’s end.

Beisner brings a unique and gentle approach to building relationships with each pet. “I’m a teacher at heart,” states Beisner. “Helping hopeless dogs is my purpose.”  Catch up on Dog Impossible on streaming platforms and enjoy this conversation which includes a deep-dive into the case covered in the show.

12 Sep 2019How Flower Crowns Changed Pitbull Rescue – PT2 - Conversation with Sophie Gamand @sophiegamand Rescue Advocate & Artist - Author of Pitbull Flower Power & Wet Dog00:40:39

Welcome to The Woof Life Show - a podcast created for dog lovers, by dog lovers! Hosted by Lauren Farricker.

In this episode, Lauren continues her chat with Sophie Gamand. You know Sophie for being a viral sensation with her incredible artwork and photography. She is an advocate for rescue dogs most especially for bully breeds.  Did you know that pitbulls are the breed that is most likely be euthanized when they end up at an animal shelter?

Sophie is the author of Wet Dog and Pitbull Flower Power. Her work is widely shared on social media @sophiegamand. Her new Pitbull Flower Power coffee table book is one of the best dog books that I’ve ever seen because it features her incredible work as well as the stories of these pups and these shelters who care for these pups.

Sophie shares her background, her early work in photography, about her family and she shares about how her move to New York challenged her creatively which was the genesis for both her Wet Dog project and Pitbull Flower Power.

Sophie was afraid initially of pitbulls so when she challenged herself to work with rescue dogs in shelters she challenged herself to work with the bully breeds. She conceived of a new artistic venture where she would create flower crowns to put on these pitfalls and take portraits of the pups to help support in their adoption.

Sophie has captured these photos and travels to shelters all over. Her craft and ability to work with these rescues highlights the realities of dog rescue. This also includes traveling to Puerto Rico that was an overwhelming amount of dogs up for rescue. Sophie even ended up adopting her pup MacLovin from a rescue in Puerto Rico on some pretty horrific circumstances.

We’ve split the conversation with Sophie into two episodes. She is such an incredible advocate of both rescue and advancing the perception of pitbulls. Enjoy this conversation with Sophie.

15 Jun 2019Discussion with Casey Williams of The Gentle Pit00:49:17

Welcome to the second episode of The Woof Life podcast - a podcast created for dog lovers, by dog lovers! Hosted by Lauren Farricker. In the second episode, Lauren shares a deep discussion with Casey Williams. Casey Williams is a petreprenuer, a staple of the dog rescue community and a pitbull advocate. She created The Gentle Pit as a mission-based apparel company with one unique goal: to restyle rescue and rebrand pit bulls through beautiful design.

Using gentle branding (think super soft fabrics, feminine silhouettes, pretty color palettes, and subtle design) The Gentle Pit seeks to attract all fashionable women even if they don’t—yet—own or love a pit bull. And that’s precisely the point. The Gentle Pit hopes to assimilate pit bulls into typical dog culture.

Lauren Farricker founded Woof Republic, an online and social hub for modern dog owners. Her site covers products, things to do with your pup, dog events, pet care, city guides, travel, pet rescue, and entertainment including funny and inspirational stories.

01 Oct 2019The Vicktory Dogs - Interview with Emily Giambalvo - Writer at The Washington Post & Author of “Michael Vick’s dogs could have been euthanized. They became adoption ambassadors”00:47:59

In this episode of The Woof Life Show the podcast for dog lovers, Lauren Farricker chats with Emily Giambalvo, who is a writer at The Washington Post. She recently published an incredibly important article highlighting the impact that Michael Vick's dogs so many years later. The exposure of that dogfighting ring at the helm of such a public figure changed everyone's lives but most importantly, the pups' lives. These Pitbulls were victims of one of the most if not the most public dogfighting ring exposures ever.

Washington Post Cover story here

Emily, the author, is a passionate animal lover and wanted to tell the story from her POV. She worked tirelessly and researched over months to learn about each of the lives that those pups went on to live.

These pups were saved, and their ownership was turned over to organizations such as Best Friend's Animal Society, BADRAP, Recycled Love, Out of the Pits and various local SPCA and other animal rescue organizations where they were rehabilitated before they could be adopted into homes.

Those 47 dogs had scars that stuck with them both visible and invisible, however, the impact of these pups is that it moved the needle on how these dogfighting seizures would be managed in the future. Having such a high profile case with an NFL player put these dogs on the center stage. Emily worked to ensure that she learned about each of these pups giving this article emotional weight that sticks with you!

Enjoy this incredible interview!

04 Sep 2019Rescue Dogs are your Biggest Advocate - A conversation with Zach Skow00:17:37

Welcome to The Woof Life Show - a podcast created for dog lovers, by dog lovers! Hosted by Lauren Farricker.

In this episode, Lauren chats with Zach Skow. Zach has one of the most interesting stories in dog rescue. Zach was a previous abuser of both drugs and alcohol for years. His body began to fail and he found himself in full-blown liver failure; he was told by doctors that he had to remain sober for 6 months in order to qualify for a transplant. The mutts of his life provided the life-changing catalyst that caused Zach to want to get sober. While at his lowest point his pups looked at him with all of the admiration in the world.

His body healed and as Zach focused on getting sober he began to take his pups for long walks and hikes, they also began to add more to their pack and Marley’s Mutts was born. Marley named after his incredible Rottweiler who was the pup that everyone looked up to and people loved.

Marley’s Mutts is a very successful dog rescue that has helped re-home many pups and give them lives that otherwise would never have been possible. Zach also founded the Positive Change Program which is a program for inmates where they are paired with dogs that are saved from kill shelters. The inmates become dog trainers and work one-on-one with these pups that they can get their canine certification certificate and are then are ready to be put up for adoption and go to a forever home.

Zach has an incredible ability of seeing the beauty in forgotten pups and people that so frequently get overlooked. His life is now so vastly different now, him and his wife have a daughter and they regularly open their home to pups who need to be believed in.  Enjoy this interview with Zach Skow.

15 Oct 2019Dax & Alice - Hero Dog Awards - Interview with John Forlenza - Dax’s handler and Tara Murillo handler to Alice00:55:21

In this episode of The Woof Life Show the podcast for dog lovers, Lauren Farricker chats with Tara Murillo who is the dog mom and handler of Alice who won the Service Hero Dog Award. The Woof Life also got the honor of interviewing Sheriff’s Deputy John Forlenza who is the handler to Dax the Hero dog winner of the Law Enforcement/ Arson category.

Tara Murillo and her family were victims of senseless gun violence which changed their life in an instant. In 2015, Antonio was a normal, playful nine-year old who loved soccer and his friends. Then, on a normal day, while riding in the back of his parents’ SUV with his younger brothers on the way to a family dinner, a man fired three to five bullets into their car and shot him in the head. Since that day Antonio has been fighting the battle of a lifetime. He spent 18 days in a coma and has endured five brain surgeries.

Antonio not only battles seizures, but migraines, balance issues, spells and more. In October of 2016, Antonio was paired with his service dog, Alice, from Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs in Florida. His mom, Tara, says, “Alice is a hero in our eyes, because without her, Antonio would not be able to do the simple things in life that we take for granted.”

We then get an opportunity to chat with John Forlenza who is the handler to Dax.

Dax began his successful career with the Lake County (IL) Sheriff’s Office almost four years ago. He has been directly responsible for tracking and successfully apprehending over 70 suspects. Dax has also been accountable for tracking and finding dozens of missing or endangered children and adults. Dax has been used for over 100 narcotic searches resulting in the seizure of over 17 kilos of cocaine, heroin and other narcotics, hundreds of pounds of cannabis, approximately three quarters of a million dollars in currency, dozens of firearms, and vehicles.

Dax’s tireless drive, dedication to training, love for police work, and incredible success stories have gained him thousands of supporters from across the country. Dax has proven to be an outstanding K9 hero!

12 Sep 2019Ivy the Very Determined Dog - Featuring Maureen Harrington the Mom of Ivy and Co-Author of "Ivy the Determined Dog"00:39:07

In this episode of The Woof Life Show the podcast for dog lovers, Lauren Farricker chats with Maureen Harrington the Mom of Ivy the Frenchie @ivy.the.frenchie.

Ivy is a bundle of joy Frenchie whose life changed on her 3rd birthday. She was diagnosed with IVDD which caused her two back legs to become paralyzed. Ivy’s life changed quickly but as she got home and recovered Maureen noticed that Ivy wanted independence and still had a lot of fight left in her.

She began pulling herself on her two front feet to the water bowl and that evolved into getting around more and more. Her parents decided to convert her to a low-rider and get her a wheelchair to aid in her mobility. With the help of Edie’s Wheels, they created a custom wheelchair for Ivy which allowed her increased mobility, independence and speed.

She loves to run around and play with her friends. Her parents adopted a sister for her named Rosie who looks after her and is her companion.  Maureen and her husband Chris realized as they were watching their pup come to life and embrace her new life as a special needs dog determined that they wanted to tell Ivy’s story in a big way. They wanted to write a book about Ivy and they would teach children that it is ok to be different.

They published Ivy the Determined Dog and go to schools and read to children with Ivy to show them that diversity is cool and interesting and isn’t scary!  You can buy their book off this site https://www.ivysbook.com/ or on Amazon!

Ivy, we admire your tenacity, grit, and determination. Your story shows the resilient nature of dogs and with an incredible owner who doesn’t view you as damaged all you can do is thrive!!

10 Sep 2019How Flower Crowns Changed Pitbull Rescue – PT1 - Conversation with Sophie Gamand @sophiegamand Rescue Advocate & Artist - Author of Pitbull Flower Power & Wet Dog00:56:21

Welcome to The Woof Life Show - a podcast created for dog lovers, by dog lovers! Hosted by Lauren Farricker.

In this episode, Lauren chats with Sophie Gamand.

28 Aug 2019Training your dog with love - A conversation with Tamar Geller of The Loved Dog00:57:29

Welcome to The Woof Life Show - a podcast created for dog lovers, by dog lovers! Hosted by Lauren Farricker.

In this episode, Lauren chats with Tamar Geller, who is the founder of The Loved Dog. You might recognize Tamar who is Oprah's dog trainer, a celebrity dog trainer, a New York Times best selling author, the resident pet expert on The Today Show, and she has been on every show talking about her positive approach to dog training. Oprah coined the term that Tamar is: "A Life Coach for Dogs and their People."

Tamar's background is unique; she was an intelligence officer in the Israeli Special Forces. After her service as an intelligence officer, she lived in the desert and observed wolves. During that time, she realized that the entire construct of how we approach dog training is invalid. She realized that instead of teaching dogs to obey, you could teach dogs essential life skills. These observations and this epiphany on dog training changed her life.

When she found herself in Los Angeles a couple of years later, she was called to help a dog owner whose Cavalier was stealing socks for attention - a case that other dog trainers could have cared less about. That client was Kenny G, since then she has worked with more celebrities than we can count. Some include Ben Affleck, Goldie Hawn, Jon Stewart, Ellen, Julianne Hough, Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman and of course Oprah.

If you struggle with your dog and training, this is an episode not to miss. Tamar's innovative and commonsense methods change the way that you think about the dog that you have living in your house. I've personally tried some of the methods in problem areas I have with Pixie and cannot articulate what a difference they have made. Pixie was not adequately socialized, and since adopting her, we've lived with a slightly reactive pup. We have used The Loved Dog's methods, and the difference is astounding. Pixie is 13 and proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks!

08 Aug 2019Seeing with your Heart - A conversation with Joanne George the Dog Mom to Sunny and Smiley –who are both rescued blind pups turned therapy dogs00:56:48

In this episode, Lauren chats with Joanne George an incredible rescue advocate who rescue pups who otherwise would have been put down. She rescued Smiley from a puppy mill in Canada at about two years old. Most people were disapproving assuming the pup would have no quality of life but Joanne was steadfast that Smiley was going to have an epic life. They began to share postings on Smiley and created a movement which included writing a book and speaking to children about how people are different and those differences must be celebrated. Children are very acute when seeing things through the perspective of a dog as opposed to looking at it through human eyes. And all of this was led by a blind dog who sees with his heart.

Smiley lived an incredibly fulfilling life and eventually was diagnosed with cancer and past away a couple of years ago. For Joanne and her son it was devastating but Smiley’s community cared for them during that time of profound loss. All dogs go to heaven!

Joanne learned of a puppy born in Tijuana Mexico without eyes and it was a match made in heaven: meet Sunny. Sunny was rescued from Mexico, transported to Oregon and Joanne and her family traveled to Oregon to bring Sunny home.

Follow them on social media @fortheloveofsmiley

The legacy of their kindness and filling the world with joy continues and is paramount to what connects them to the world. Joanne shares how the stories of her pups has affected people’s lives simply through social media. This is an awe-inspiring interview that gives you all the feels.

19 Oct 2019From Prison to Beverly Hills - The Journey of Leader Dog Lady – 2019 Hero Guide Dog an Interview with Dawn Rudolph00:58:15

In this episode of The Woof Life Show the podcast for dog lovers, Lauren Farricker chats with Dawn Rudolph who is the dog mom and handler of Leader Dog Lady who won the 2019 Hero Guide Dog Award.

Dawn Rudolph is legally blind and Leader Dog Lady is her guide dog. Dawn shares with The Woof Life show how much her world has changed so much since Lady came into her life. Leader Dogs are the eyes to support their handler and are trained like a Secret Service Agent to put their own life in danger before harm could come to their handler.

Leader Dog Lady’s life started in a peculiar way, she lived for the first year of her life with an inmate in Iowa named Kevin. Kevin worked diligently to train her with other inmates as a part of the program through Leader Dogs for the Blind. Interestingly the long-term success rate of pups trained in prisons is better for placement as a lead dog as compared to other training programs.

Since Lady came into Dawn’s life, her world has been vastly improved: they travel, they set goals, and conquer challenges like everyone else.  Friends and family always ask them Leader Dog Lady what their upcoming adventures will be. They educate people about Leader Dogs for the Blind, go to Lions Club conventions to promote Leader Dogs for the Blind. We attend big events and fundraisers for this wonderful organization. July will be their four-year anniversary as a team. What a beautiful partnership and it’s so incredible to hear about the impact that a dog has on someone’s quality of life.

The 9th Annual American Humane Hero Dog Awards® will premiere on the Hallmark Channel on October 21st at 8pm ET/ PT. 04 Sep 2019Help Merryweather Find a Forever Home - Featuring Larissa Wohl, Lindsay Bird and Ellen Ballon Dante00:25:23

In this episode, Lauren chats with rescue experts who need help for a pup desperately  in need. Pet rescue shows both the worst and best in society and Merryweather a pup who is in a shelter in St. Landry Animal Rescue tells both of those tales.

We chat with Larissa Wohl a Pet rescue expert who works for the Hallmark Channel who discovered Merryweather’s case when she was traveling to rural Louisiana. Merryweather on the surface appears to be a pup in a cage looking for a forever home like so many other pups. What you don’t see on the surface is that she was brutalized by a human who raped her and left her in a field. An animal control officer found her in a bad state but this dog like so many rescue dogs showed its resilience and came towards the officer who was offering help with a wagging tail.

Merryweather required 4 surgeries to mend all of the damage that was done to her. She is safe living in a cage but she is a brown pitbull in rural Louisiana. There are not a lot of prospects for her to begin the next chapter of her life in a forever home no matter how hard the shelter works.

Deity Animal Rescue in Los Angeles wants to give this girl a new lease on life. They want to transport her from Los Angeles and get her healthy to get her matched with a loving home. As a 501 c3 non-profit that helps pups find forever homes. Ellen and Lindsay from Deity share how people can help this incredible pup.

You can follow this story here:

Please share Merryweather’s story and help in any way that you can.  Remember that even if you are tight on funds the share button on social media is the most powerful tool for dog rescues to gain a village to help pups like Merryweather who could just become a statistic and a sad story!

22 Jul 2019Dogs Are Healers - Chatting about how @surfdogricochet changed a veteran's life01:10:40

Welcome to The Woof Life Show - a podcast created for dog lovers, by dog lovers! Hosted by Lauren Farricker.

In this episode, Lauren chats with Judy Fridono who is the mom to @surfdogricochet and the founder of Puppy Prodigies and Ricochet’s Guardian.  We also chat with Persons Griffith “Griff” United States Marine Corps Staff Sergeant.

Griff served two combat tours in Afghanistan within the Marine Corps. When he arrived home to civilian life he developed anxiety and was dealing with symptoms of PTSD. Griff is one of hundreds of thousands of veterans in the US dealing with this affliction. Griff participated in a program in San Diego through the VA which paired therapy dogs with veterans to help them cope with their symptoms and assimilation back into life. The Naval Medical Center San Diego offers a program called Pawsitive Teams that Judy and Ricochet volunteered at. Griff’s life was changed by a golden retriever named Ricochet.

Ricochet is a therapy dog, surfing champion, and works with children with special needs and helps them through surfing in her hometown of San Diego.

19 Oct 2019Piglet– 2019 Hero Search & Rescue Dog - Interview with Lori Wells00:24:18

In this episode of The Woof Life Show the podcast for dog lovers, Lauren Farricker chats with Lori Wells who is the dog mom and handler of Piglet who won the 2019 Search & Rescue Hero Dog.

But there’s another “Piglet” in town: an eight-year-old Catahoula Leopard Dog. This Piglet, a veteran search and rescue dog, is trained and certified to help families in arduous times. Nothing could have prepared Piglet and handler Lori Wells for the inconceivable conditions on a recent deployment. Called to aid in the aftermath of the horrific “Camp Fire” in Paradise, California, this little dog deployed to do all she could to help. Piglet provides a vital service. The value of her work in bringing answers to grieving families is immeasurable.

She assists in locating people on land and in water. Once, human searchers spent seven days combing a lake with no luck. On day eight, Piglet deployed and located the subject. She helped the coroner by locating enough bones to reconstruct and positively identify the individual. Lori and Piglet donate hundreds of volunteer hours annually and depart for each call-out with enthusiasm. Traveling thousands of miles a year does not diminish Piglet’s bubbly personality and happy-go-lucky attitude. In her off-hours, she loves making friends. At events she’s always a crowd-pleaser with a wagging tail, signature “smile,” and endless kisses.
