20 Jul 2024 | But The Most My Window Cleaning Customers Will Pay is Only $150 | 00:22:16
Keith Kalfas reflects on his experience in the window cleaning business, sharing how trusted customers fired him after they raised their prices despite years of service. This realization led them to advise others to seek out clients who value their worth, rather than complaining about existing customers. This episode underscores the importance of finding clients willing to pay fair prices and hints at applying this lesson to the landscaping business, emphasizing a new pricing minimum. "Go find customers who can pay what you're worth." - Keith Kalfas Topics Covered:
Key Takeaways
You may have long-term customers who seem to care about you, but this doesn’t always translate to them valuing the worth of your services.
Instead of lamenting over clients who refuse to pay what you’re worth, the focus should be on finding new customers who can and will pay for your services at your desired rate.
The lesson from a landscaping pricing example applies similarly to window cleaning: setting a minimum price threshold can help in maintaining profitability and ensuring that your services are being appropriately compensated.

21 Feb 2023 | DONT Let FEAR of FAILURE Enter Your Mind When Starting & Growing Your Landscaping Business | 00:16:37
The feeling of low self-esteem is an inevitable part of life when you encounter challenges. If you feel discouraged, you are afraid to move forward because you think everything you do will end in failure, no matter what the situation is. Stop doing that because it won't help you. In fact, it will only push you further. It is important to remember that no man is an island and that you are not alone. Whenever you encounter a problem, there will always be someone who can assist you. So be careful not to get caught up in a situation you can't escape. Taking a broad perspective and an open mind will always lead to a solution. Let me share with you my epiphanies in today's episode. You must not let the worry in your mind manipulate you.
“The spirit of discouragement comes upon you. It pulls you into a really dark place. It's very bleak. It's terrifying, actually. Because that feeling that what if you're not good enough, or you're not cut out for this?” - Keith Kalfas
Why do you have to listen to today's episode.
00:12 - “I've had a lot of going through the depression of discouragement, feelings of failure, hopelessness, worthlessness, unworthy. And I've looked in the mirror and had fear fill up inside of me in the past. And I would feel like, Oh, my God, what if this is not going to work out at all? What if it's going to fail? What happens is when you think thoughts like that, or you allow yourself to think thoughts like that, the spirit of discouragement comes upon you.” Discouragement can take many forms and affect us in different ways. Once you feel it, only one thing can happen to you. It causes you to lose your self-esteem. Sometimes, it may seem like you are the dumbest person in the world. What should you do?
2:32 “So here was my big epiphany when I said, Do not let the notion of failure even come into your mind at all. Here's why.” Hear what Keith has to say as he shares his epiphany with you. You must not allow yourself even to think of the possibility of failure, even for a moment.
4:27 “So the anxiety and the pressure is good because it's telling you what to lean into. So some of the most successful people I know have a hell-bent determination and willpower, and they figure it out as they go; they have faith in themselves.” Think about how you can eliminate distractions that are preventing you from finding a solution. As Keith explains, there are different types of decisions you make that can either have a negative or positive impact on your life.
8:12 - “I look in the mirror. And if a negative thought comes to my mind, like, oh my god, like the fear of total failure, what if none of this is going to work at all? Screw that because it's not going to get you anywhere, and talking about that with other people. Nobody can help you when you're in that position.” Whenever you catch yourself thinking a negative thought, grab it and hold it. Rather than thinking negative thoughts, try to think positive ones.
10:16 - “Be careful of the people that you look up to that are highly successful because they might let you down. Like if you actually get to meet them in person, are you really, really know about how some of them are? So just because somebody is extremely successful doesn't always mean they're great. They might just be bullies.” In some cases, people who are so confident in themselves are not necessarily good people. Choosing a trustworthy person is very important.
Key Takeaways “Don't let the thoughts of failure come into your mind. If you want to do something, write it down, create a plan, and go take some action on it right away.” - Keith Kalfas.

From hiring qualified personnel and incorporating your business as an LLC or S Corp, to purchasing equipment and increasing revenue. Plus, learn valuable tips on how to find an accountant that fits your needs. Crush it this year - Listen now! "More production is better than less production." - Brian Fullerton Topics Covered:
Key Takeaways
"Because if you're driving 20 or 30 minutes to customers lawn for 40 bucks, you're gonna you're not making any money. If you're driving 20 3040 minutes to do somebody's five or $10,000 and landscaping job it's worth it you're making money. There's people literally go and do $50,000 jobs and they'll sleep in a hotel room to go finish that job before they come back. I mean, there's people that do million dollar jobs. So you have to find out the law of diminishing returns on a gradient and where does the scale tip so it's the most healthy and profitable for your business. Now sometimes you're going to do inconvenient things when you're getting a business off the ground. Like I said, throwing the mud at the wall to see what sticks. You're going to do a lot of inconvenient shit and drive all over the place and say yes to everything to generate as much activity in the business as possible. But then once you once you really get going then you can kind of cut the fat and narrow back down and be more choosy. There are some plants that you shouldn't let grow in your backyard. It might have surprised you to learn that some of these are poisonous. You, as a landscaper, could also be at risk if you don't know which plants could pose a health threat. The first thing you should do is familiarize yourself with these poisonous plants, so you do not end up getting hospitalized because you do not know what they are. Join us today as the ditch the itch man himself explains why it's so important to know what kind of plant to stay away from. If you are passionate about killing poisonous plants, you might be interested in becoming an arborist. Austin will tell you how.
"There are so many plants with three leaves out there that you can't follow, right? Otherwise, you'll think every plant with three leaves is this thing that's just going to destroy you or make you itch, give you oozing blisters, and nobody wants that. And then if you're irresponsible with an herbicide, you go out there and you see everything with three leaves. Well, now you're killing everything you don't need to." Austin Douglas
Topics Covered:
This is the story of how Austin Douglas founded his company.
The process Austin goes through every time he receives a call from a customer. Their goal is to make sure the client is aware of the importance of removing poison ivy.
The author discusses different kinds of poisonous plants that the average person would be unaware of. When you don't know how to properly handle these plants, you could endanger your health.
The remediation process. What are the steps a certified arborist follows to remediate? 9:53 - “Plant health care is basically the concept that trees and shrubs have issues, whether they be insect disease, nutrient deficiencies, they have issues due to the environment around them. And due to abiotic and biotic factors. abiotic is basically manmade, we intervened and caused an issue. biotic is living, so we're talking insects, fungi, and things of that nature. And plant health care is basically altering the environment. So that way, we can make this tree or shrub healthy again, you basically have to read the tree, read the environment, see what's going on, and then make adjustments from there.” What is Plant healthcare? Austin explains. 15:05 - “That's like the first part of what we do when we communicate with a client, right? When we go out there, and we inspect the property, it's all education. So we walk a property, we look at everything. Oh, look, you have these shrubs? Oh, look, they have this insect issue. Do you have these trees? Oh, it looks like they have this issue. Oh, your pines over there. They look like they adopt the stroma and maybe some diplopia tip light, you just start educating people. Because when you start educating people and showing people what you actually know, you're immediately perceived as more professional. They immediately their body changes, they kind of relax and they go, I got the right guy. And that's what you want because then it becomes easier to sell them a service.” Seeing the importance of knowing things made Austin realize he needed to start an academy that educates people about poison ivy prevention. It is his goal to educate people. These types of things should be educated not only to homeowners but also to landscapers.

09 Jun 2023 | How to Market Your Business On Social Media | Omnipresence Strategy | 00:19:24
The marketing process can be really tricky if you're not sure what to do. But you know that posting videos on all your social media accounts will work, right? To increase your business's visibility, you don't need to spend thousands of dollars on Google ads in order to create this content.
- Keith Kalfas.
1:55 “I've learned out of pulling my hair out and trying to do it all myself how you can actually build a small team of virtual assistants around you for an incredibly low cost.” The idea of hiring one person to do everything for you will not work. Because he or she might be good at one thing but not at everything. Therefore, it is better to have a specialist handle each task in order to avoid messes.
3:18 - “There's fiverr.com. I know you've heard of that. But you ain't heard of it like this. There's upwork.com. There are all these different freelance websites.” You can hire a virtual assistant from these freelancing platforms. There are people who can do these tasks at very low costs. Find a specialist who is an expert in each area.
Creating the monthly content that you need to upload does not require much effort. The only thing you need to do is create one great piece of content per month. The goal is not just about creating content, so listen to Keith for some additional advice. There should also be a bit of work on this.
9:10 - “Send it to an article writer. The article writer writes the article on your website, like the blog plugin or something, and you get the blog. And then, when the blog is done, you send it to another virtual assistant, a va, whose job is to repurpose content.” Getting noticed can be achieved through a blog. As a bonus, you'll be more visible when you repurpose it.
12:09 - “I want you to book 24 or 48 hours with the studio person or somebody who's got a dope camera and maybe some lighting and good audio. And then I want you to script and write out and plan.” In the absence of a recording space. Booking a studio or room where you can record this stuff would be a good idea. For a small amount, you can buy a green screen and have the video editor edit it for you. This will ensure your content looks professional, regardless of whether you are on a job site or not.
The advantage of creating your own content is that you can control the quality. This proves that you are the best candidate for the job. It is the best marketing strategy you could use for your business.
Key Takeaways: "Omnipresent means you're on all social media platforms all the time. But you're not doing you have a virtual assistant posting it all for you." "You tell a story about the job site, a case study testimonial video, for instance." "If you could take that one video and get a hit, maybe only one out of eight of those videos would become a hit. You can put that thing on the front of your website, and it'll sit there for two-three years and will sell your work."

11 Sep 2023 | How to Win 2024 Before it Even Starts with Joshua Latimer | 00:15:02
Welcome to this episode of The Untrapped Podcast, where we're joined by a remarkable guest who's about to drop some serious wisdom. Today, we have the privilege of sitting down with Joshua Latimer, a true business visionary. You might already know Joshua from his incredible success stories - he's taken multiple businesses past the million-dollar mark, automated them, and even sold them, all while maintaining an unwavering passion for marketing. With over a thousand entrepreneurs personally coached and countless millionaires created through his guidance, Joshua is a game-changer in the world of business. In the next few minutes, he's going to share insights that can revolutionize your approach to business and marketing. But before we dive in, make sure to mark your calendars for September 13th and 14th because Joshua has a game-changing event coming up, and we'll get all the details.
"Now, I think Warren Buffett, or a lot of famous investors say you make your money on the asset when you buy it, not when you sell it. And we're going to make our money in 2024. Now when we plan it, not when we're in the middle of it. And so it's going to be exciting, it's awesome." - Joshua Latimer Topics Covered:
Key Takeaways "You're poor, and then you're balling. And then you panic here, even though it happens every year, and then you mini-balling again. And then you're poor again. And then it's this emotional rollercoaster. And what happens is people do their marketing backward. Backward means they stopped spending money on marketing up this curve right here. Because they get booked a month or two out, right? And then when it starts to go down, they panic. And they spend all their money, waste all their money, marketing when people don't want to buy their stuff. And then it goes up again. And the cycle continues, right. " - Joshua

24 Apr 2023 | $200M Service Business with 700 Employees || Game-Changing Mindset Tips || Tommy Mello A1 | 01:01:01
A successful business requires a business mentality. If you want to succeed in your business, you need to think like one. Learn how to lead, not just how to work. This is how Tommy Mello made his career soar. The focus of his leadership development was not on how to solve problems but on how to improve his leadership abilities. Your mindset should be focused on cultivating your team. For him, he can hire a subject matter expert to solve problems he cannot solve. Rather than being ashamed, he encourages us to ask for help and find the best people for the job. The end goal should be to manage these people and grow your business by managing them, not to do everything yourself.
Tommy Mello owns A1 garage door service. Six years ago, he began his podcast to help entrepreneurs grow their businesses. He is a note-taker, and every time something comes up in his head, he writes about it. His success inspired him to write the first book Home Service Millionaire, and he then wrote Elevate, a book about attracting and developing a winning team. You can buy his book using this link: www.elevateandwin.com/keith
“I never call people my employees. I like to call them internal customers. I like to call them my coworkers. I like to call them my team.” - Tommy Mello.
Topics Covered:
Introduction to Tommy Mello. 2:04 - “I love what I do, man, and I'm opening up doors. The first thing I start with every speech I do is I'm in the garage for business. I'm in 23 states. If you like what we do, use our company, and see how we do things, but also have a graduate company looking to partner up with a great company that's going to take care of your internal customers, that's us. So at building little marketers out there. It's amazing what happens when you give. It's the byproduct of giving just good things happen.” Tommy shares how he got started in the business. He never refers to his employees as employees; he calls them his team. It's that kind of approach that builds a great leadership team.
Paying your employees appropriately was Tommy's main point. A good salary won't make them leave you. It is the byproduct of paying people what they are worth that they provide good customer service. Therefore, you must set your price high enough to cover the cost.
Tommy admits that he can't do everything by himself. His secret to success is hiring the best of the best. Having a jack-of-all-trades approach won't help you succeed. It's important to stay on track with your schedule. Leadership skills can be improved by recognizing your weaknesses. 20:10 - “ I never want to be the bad guy. I'm not a good, bad guy. I'm not good at firing people. In fact, I'm probably too lenient on second or third chances. But I've really empowered my team. And I think that that's something that most business owners fail out.” Don't be afraid to make big decisions and praise those around you. Encourage your team to make their own decisions and recognize their achievements. 38:06 - “I learned the simple formula without a budget without numbers. How much are you spending as a percentage of revenue on marketing? And if it balloons for one month, why? what's working and what's not, when you can reinvest the things that are working all the time, and the evidence is clear, because you've got data integrity to make sure the numbers are right, then it's basically a compass. And you just got to follow TrueNorth to get where you want to go. And the CRM and the accounting tools allow you to do this, but a lot of people go accounting or smiling. I don't want to budget. It's too much work. And it is a lot of work. It's a lot of work to get it right. But when it is right, you'll find the Holy Grail.” Tommy loves numbers, he's always calculating and computing. When it comes to business, numbers are very important to him. He ensures they meet their monthly KPIs. Every department maintains a scorecard to track performance. 46:12 - “I want to see their six-month plan, their one-year plan, their three-year plan, their five-year plan, and then I want to show them how it could help them hit their goals. Same thing with vendors, the same thing with anybody. And that's the whole meaning of the word Elevate. You get to win when they win. And it doesn't need to be losers.” Tommy explains why he wrote Elevate and what the book title means to him.
Key Takeaways: “People used to talk about me on Facebook before the podcast and say he's our villain. He is such a prick. He comes into our market. He takes our employees. He raises prices, and he charges too much. And others like, well, Tommy's a pretty good guy. I'm making a lot more money now. The employees are happier. My clients are happier, and my vendors are happier because our product mix is better. So they all won. And that's the hard part for people to comprehend. And it just doesn't make sense. But it works.” - Tommy Mello

Key Takeaways
"When you want to do anything and you're committed, you will go out and ask for help. And you'll find the answers and you will get it done, you will be laser focused, and make it happen and I'm watching this happen all over the place with the internet. Now with our community, these podcasts, you can get access to the information much, much faster. Is there somebody I can pay to consult me? Right? Because I'm not trying to go get it for free on YouTube. I'm literally trying to find the person and pay them to compress the time." - Keith Connect with Paul Website: https://greenindustrypodcast.com/

25 Feb 2024 | 7 Steps to Marketing Your Service Business | Keith Kalfas Speech Lawn Care Life Conference | 01:03:30
In this episode, Keith Kalfas speaks on the importance of developing effective marketing strategies for small businesses, emphasizing the role of networking and attending live events to gain insights. He discusses his seven steps to marketing business which include taking advantage of Google My Business, adopting price transparency, downloading the MailChimp app for email marketing, and making use of ringless voicemail for retargeting existing clients. Keith further emphasizes the need for outsourcing tasks like website building or graphics design to virtual assistants and the importance of delegating tasks to knowledgeable parties rather than attempting to master all roles individually. By being transparent, consistent, and constantly engaging with customers, he suggests businesses can effectively raise their profiles and increase their clientele.
- Keith Kalfas
"Utilize these seemingly small strategies—such as garnering positive five-star reviews, leveraging ringless voicemail, and implementing email marketing. Additionally, consider hiring virtual assistants to support your graphic design needs and create compelling flyers. These actions can help you establish an effective marketing system, enabling you to generate revenue consistently. Think of it as a reliable tool that you can access whenever needed, providing you with a constant stream of returns." - Keith Kalfas Connect with Keith Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/keithkalfas/

13 Mar 2023 | How to Train Landscaping Employees - 4 Step System This Actually Works | 00:07:21
You've spent a lot of time teaching your landscaping employees, but they still don't know how? The probable cause is that we are training them in the wrong way. I have learned 4 easy steps on how to train your employees that will remain in their minds. Check out these steps. You might be missing a few steps, so this episode is for you. Please join me for a quick episode touch-up where I discuss how these steps can help you train your landscaping employees This changed my business, I promise you, this is so easy and so powerful already, and you're gonna come back and you're gonna thank me and I didn't make this up. I learned this from someone else. And I was too stubborn to listen - Keith Kalfas Topics Covered 00:37 - “So you make sure they have the proper gloves, eye protection, ear protection, safety equipment, they've signed the paperwork” Make sure all these things are done correctly and that they are all equipped with safety equipment before you get started. 1:13 - “Step one, had them relax, and just their whole job right now you tell them your job is just to hang out and watch me. You trim the shrubs. And you explain why you're trimming.” It begins with teaching them, explaining why you are doing it, and letting them know the importance of the task. 3:06 - “Step two, is you hand them the shrub trimmers, and you tell them alright, now I'm gonna hang out and I'm gonna hang out and watch you trim the shrubs.”The second phase is to let them experience the job once you have educated them about its importance. You shouldn't shout at them if they make a mistake since they are in the adjustment phase. Make any necessary corrections.
Once they are ready and have a clear understanding of what they need to do. They can teach you the same way you taught them. If they don't explain in the same way as you did. There's nothing to worry about. The most important thing is that they understand how the process works well 5:18 - “Hey, Joe, Joe already knows the drill, right? Come over here real quick. All right, now we're standing here. Now I want you to teach Joe, what you just learned. I want you to teach Joe. Step four, have him teach somebody else how to turn shrubs.” A fourth phase involves asking them to teach someone else. By repetition, learning takes place.
Key Takeaways: “So there's an accountability thing that happens in the brain that triggers because the best way to learn something is to actually teach it. There's something that happens like when you teach something, especially when you just learned it and it integrates it into your subconscious mind faster.”

14 Nov 2022 | Why You Shouldn't Offer Too Many Services in Your Landscaping Business? | 00:08:15
Offering too many services may increase your income, but you may not be aware that offering this small type of service to many customers can lower the quality of your work since you tend to hustle and work fast because you have a lot of commitments to these services for a small fee.
Do you think this is the right way to work? Do you think this is a good strategy for increasing sales? In today's episode, I explain how to earn more money by doing less by following the right strategy and understanding why your landscaping business shouldn't offer too many services.
Whatever. you do. You got to do it right in order for it to all pass so you can actually get the check. You're gonna do a lot of different things, right. You can't have any of those things wrong because you're serving people. - Keith Kalfas
Why do you have to listen to today's episode.
00:24 - “So imagine it's just like yellow Legos. And you gotta build that thing. So can pass, and the Legos are coming down the conveyor belt quickly. Well, what if there were red, not just yellow Legos? But there are green and yellow Legos. And now you're building two different castles. But they're totally different types of castles because they're different services. It's a totally different thing” When you offer too many services, your business may suffer. The quality of all services may vary, and some factors may be the same, but others may be different. Know what's what before you jump in.
2:05 - “How long did it take you to learn how to do all this, right? So it's like, if you got too many services, it's over complexify the hell out of your business, lowering the quality of each service.” When you offer too many services, make sure that the quality is not compromised.
4:15 - "So why don't you rather do just like ten $10,000 jobs are 100 grand, but what type of jobs? So are you going to get to that 10,000 by offering a whole bunch of different services like I was talking about? Are you going to just do one service like luxury hardscape outdoor living? Wouldn't it be better if you focused on bigger projects instead of offering a wide range of services for a small fee?
4:48 - “There was a meet-up with this person who was in a room in the highest-paid entrepreneur in the room of this group of people who did like over 20 million a year, and all he did was gutter cleaning. That's all I've got her cleaning, but he was like the best, most prominent gutter cleaning company in his whole multi-state area or something; that's all they did.” After you refine the processes, you get the tools and can train people. It would be even better if you did just a handful of things really, really well, and tuned it and did it really, really fast and efficiently.
5:40 - "Now, the amount that you can get paid is not really tied directly to just your skill. Because if you have the skill, you can do something faster and make more because you can increase the rate and pace at which you do it. But part of how much you make, how much money you can make, is directly proportional to how many people are lined up willing to do the same exact thing." This world is full of people with skills, and you're not the only one who has them. What will you do to dominate?
“So it's like if you got too many services, it's over complexify the hell out of your business, lowering the quality of each service”
“You could offer way more stuff to each customer in the form of packages could be a good thing to limit and increase the average ticket price of each individual customer from 40 bucks 200 bucks to 10,000 depending on each customer”
"So are you going to get to that 10,000 by offering a whole bunch of different services like I was talking about are you going to just do one service like luxury hardscape outdoor living?"

"It all starts with us. And we got to create a job that people want, right? And we got to be a leader that people want to work for and people want to follow, they will come for the money. But they won't stay for the money, right? They stay for us and for the culture. And they will stay even when they could go get more money elsewhere. Right. "It's just the leaders. The leaders of our company are the ones that understand. It's shared with the whole vision, but we're seasonal, and a lot of my guys do end up going to Mexico for the winter. So I don't have as much contact with them. We do let them know we post things up. We make sure that, our core values are everywhere. Everything that we are about and what we're changing, from our five year plan and our 10 year plan and our, all those things. The guys are aware of what we're trying to do and the girls as well and as a company and we've implemented profit sharing every single month to every employee and it's always the same. It doesn't matter if you've been here for 30 or 20 years or you just started everybody gets the same profit sharing check. So it really has helped bring more people to my business as well where people have labor shortages. We had six new guys sign on, so we had six new guys sign on to our company, which that's huge. It's huge in our business especially six that not only worked out, they were fantastic or fantastic. " - Steve

"I think throw as much activity at the wall, throw as much money at the wall as you possibly can and see what sticks if you have a ton of opportunity. You know, some people say do it all. But then I really think that you should do it all and do everything you can and just work like 12 to 14 hours a day and do that for about 90 days until it gets so unbearable that you're forced to start cutting the fat and carving out what doesn't work. Because in that time period, if this is your first year, the lessons that you're going to be that you're going to learn while being in the trenches, and under the fire, with that amount of pressure on you are going to make you have a nervous breakdown, which is beautiful, but to know, they're gonna, they're gonna teach you invaluable lessons, and you're gonna get a, you know, like a master's degree at this a lot faster than most people if you've got that many customers that fast." - Keith Connect with Jason Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/lawncarelife Connect with Keith Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/keithkalfas/

07 Dec 2022 | Simple Tips to GROW Your Business from a Guy Whos Built 7 Businesses - Joshua Latimer | 00:59:38
As a new or existing business owner, you think every client you come across is for you. Even if you notice that the client isn't right or the deal or offer is off. Despite seeing something wrong with the job, you still accept it because of fear of missing out. Stop! Take a moment to reflect on this. How would you react if you were told that there is a better approach to choosing your customers and that there is an easier way to build your systems?
On today's episode, Joshua will explain why everyone isn't your customer. Listen as he discusses how to turn your neighbor marketing into an actual business using the five stages of business development. What is the best way to overcome objections, and how will you make losing customers become winning customers. These are some of the topics Joshua covered in this 1-hour episode. This is quite a lengthy episode, but I assure you it is worth your time. You will be entertained by Joshua's witty stories and gain wisdom as he explains how to hit your target numbers for your business. This is my gift to you, and I hope you gain a lot from this. Joshua Latimer hosts the Quick Talk Podcast - Grow Your Service Business. Currently, the show is in its seventh year. As the founder of AutomateGroseSell.com, he has helped small service business owners understand the power of simple systems. In July 2021, he founded KidWarPlan.com, intending to teach kids how to improve their knowledge, confidence, and maturity. Joshua has also spoken at numerous seminars and events as a guest speaker, sharing his knowledge of upscale business strategies with entrepreneurs.
“When you do postcards, It's not a quote. It's not a sales process. It's a phone call generator. That's what it is.” - Joshua Lattimer
Why do you have to listen to today's episode. 1:33 -” He's so so humble. And I could see his face in the back. And here's a guy who built a business from a flat broke scratch with nothing. He was delivering pizzas. And he strapped a ladder to the top of like a 1990 Chevy Cavalier. Does anybody know Joshua's story? Raise your hand.” Introduction to Joshua Latimer.
5:17 - ”So I want you to think about this. You see, a DJ Carol is generating millions of dollars in all this fancy stuff. That's the wine. The part that people miss is the crushing of the grapes because you weren't there when my car got repossessed. You weren't there when my wife and I went to buy groceries at the grocery store with my newborn baby Maverick, and her debit card got declined, right? You weren't there for that.” Josh shares his experience starting his business from scratch. He mentioned that business is only sometimes win-win. He explains it metaphorically by saying that everyone sees the grapes, but no one sees the crush. As he tells his story, listen closely to how "Joshua Latimer" came to be.
9:03 - “What you have to understand is that a largely automated business like I built like DJ has built all's it is really is a set of systems stacked on top of each other in a set of relationships stacked on top of each other.” A system underpins all businesses, according to Joshua. Systems are powerful. Understand how they work. It all boils down to 5 stages of business.
12:44 “What he did is he used systems really good better than I did buy a lot. His business was bigger than mine. And he grew up faster than mine. But the way we did, it's the same because there's already a path. So I want to briefly explain the five stages of business.” Joshua discusses the five stages of business growth he created with Brandon Vaughn. Then, in a quick explanation, he explains how business development proceeds in five steps.
18:37 - “Here's a question I want to engage with you guys. What is the foundational cornerstone of any successful business on the planet? Say some answers. Just say stuff. Systems, customer service, say, Oh, wait, you've heard this story before, right? It's sales and marketing, right?” Taking this as the number one priority when building your business system is essential. Similarly, Joshua explained that marketing is the process that will get you your customers.
18:37 - “To make the point you need to simplify, you need to learn to do less, not more, you need to focus in tunnel vision on the basic simple stuff that always works instead of trying to do 1600 super advanced tactics or whatever, right? And once your business is big, if you want to nerd out and do super advanced tactics, do it like, That's great.” Hyper-targeting is a technique used in marketing and prospecting. Here's how you can turn your neighbor's marketing strategy into a successful business. Choosing the right customer is important because not all clients will fit your needs. 25:43 - “Okay. We're good. Okay. Do you want to personalize your marketing, whether it's a door hanger, a yard sign, or whatever you want to make it about them? That's my point. Okay. Very simple stuff. This is crammed with construction paper stuff. You make it about them.” Marketing should be your phone call generator. As you create your signage, Joshua provides some dos and don'ts.
27:38 - “you have to be in front of people over and over and over and over and over and over and over like a broken record. That's a relentless nonstop thing.” Whenever you are hyper-targeting your prospects, you should consider multi-touch marketing. However, Joshua believes neighbor marketing is the best method for prospecting due to similar demographics. Here's why. 30:29 - “So we're going to talk about how to turn this neighbor marketing strategy. This is one nugget into an actual system into a lever.” As Joshua defined Principles, Strategy, and Tactics, he outlined the differences between them. 40:21 - “So you want to measure things like your average ticket, and then you're gonna measure your CAC. Who knows what a CAC is? Customer acquisition costs. It's the customer acquisition cost.” Numbers are the key to everything. In Joshua's view, whatever measures are taken to improve the situation will be successful. A winning strategy is useless if it is not measured. The key is in the numbers. Markets are driven by needs alone. 44:57 - 58:26 - — Question and Answer Portion —
Key Takeaways
“In your marketing and your literature, in the way that you look, the way that you smell, the way that you dress, the way that you answer your phone, the inflection in your voice, the way that you do the work and you do the right thing, even though no one's looking the way that you have integrity, the way that after the job's done, he unfairly says you gotta fix something and you do it with a smile and then the way that you follow up with that customer for the next 10 years. That is how you make millions of dollars.” - Joshua Lattimer
“You don't do marketing to get validated that you're good enough and strong enough. You're trying to get the hyper-targeted person to engage with you and call you. That's it" - Joshua Lattimer

23 Jan 2023 | What Makes a Multi-Million Dollar Business, a Popular YouTube Channel, and a Successful Mastermind Group Work? Interview With the Goat Gang Leader Himself, Tigran Gertz | 00:58:58
When he was just a guy offering services to clients, no one believed he could do it. That prompted him to create his YouTube channel to prove he had it. YouTube has become his portfolio. He admits that no matter what you do to showcase the good stuff, you will likely face criticism. Nevertheless, he continued to share with others what he knew. He created a Mastermind group to help landscapers build their dreams across the country. Today's guest crosses boundaries. He has spoken at many events and owns a multimillion-dollar landscaping company in California. His YouTube channel helps landscapers and their clients understand landscaping by providing them with information. Through his mastermind class called the goat gang, he has also been able to help many small business owners reach their targets. Tune in as I talk with Tigran Gertz about what happens behind the scenes of his business—learning what this wise man says might benefit you and your business.
“I did not start a YouTube channel to become a YouTuber; I started a YouTube channel because people didn't believe me that I could do their job.” - Tigran Gertz
Why do you have to listen to today's episode. 00:16 - “He has a multimillion-dollar landscaping operation. You might have seen his YouTube videos where he not only shows you the entire process of how they install the luxury outdoor living spaces to the maximum, but he also shows you the before the after he shows the mistakes that he makes in his business and how he quickly solves them and its high value.” Introduction to today’s guest
4:21 - “That was really fun. I was actually very nervous about the and, here is a little inside scoop about how that happened. Grant went on an Instagram with me, he goes Instagram Live, and you can invite someone, and you could do an Instagram live with them for, like, a few minutes. And he did that. He invited me on.” Tigran Gertz explains how he got invited to a live interview with Grant Cardone.
9:03 - “One thing I told you is that I get a tremendous amount of sleep every day. A lot of people think that that is the opposite way of being successful, but they say sleep for hours to get more work done. But most of the time, people that sleep for hours, they're not productive. And when you're very well rested and very awake and alert, you're able to get more work done, and you're more cognitive. So sleep for me is huge. As Tigran Gertz explains, sleep is important and benefits a person's well-being and productivity.
11:53 - “One thing that he pointed out was that the reason they're losing respect for me is that when you work alongside your employees, they become your coworkers, and you start making jokes, and you start making comments.” According to Tigran, you must establish a boundary between yourself and your employees to maintain respect between them and you.
13:57 - “I did not start a YouTube channel to become a YouTuber; I started a YouTube channel because people didn't believe me that I could do their job.” According to Tigran, his YouTube channel showcases his ability to walk the talk. As a result, his YouTube channel has become his portfolio.
14:54 - “People come to me, and they say I'm a bad person. I'm an idiot. And the beginning, I always used to try to prove my point and try to prove them wrong. I'm like, No, I'm not I'm really good person. But then I just realized haters are inevitable.” Whatever you do, no matter how you explain. Putting yourself out there, especially on social media, is always risky, regardless of how good you are. You will inevitably get negative feedback from haters.
20:10 - “It's really difficult to get someone's attention with a very good positive video very like. Usually, the more negative the video is, the better it will do. It's crazy because, well, we'll look at the News. The news is super negative. And that just goes to show, especially in the 2020 era, we had just a whole bunch of negativity, and people are glued to the screen. And that's when I felt like humanity was definitely at its lowest.” Whether or not something is said to trigger haters is the difference between being a jackass and just saying something.
25:59 - “It's very difficult to stand up to a customer when they say, Johnny, I want you to do it for this price, you Tom $1,000. And they're like, No, you need to do it for 700. And it's almost like they're doing you a favor by giving you work.” According to Keith and Tigran, the key to surviving bad offers is knowing how much you're worth.
34:58 - “I've always attracted really good people in my life. And that only happened when I started making good decisions. When I was a dirtbag. I was a shitbag; I was doing bad things, and I was attracting bad people. And a lot of people might wonder. They might sit there. Listen, there might wonder, why can't I catch a break because your decisions are garbage? You keep making the wrong decisions.” Avoid making the same mistakes by choosing the right decision for yourself.
38:37 - “A lot of lessons happen from mistakes. But the smart thing to do is learn from other people's mistakes. So you don't have to do that.” Here's an advice from Tigran that everyone should heed.
44:45 - “The only way you can have sanity and landscaping because there are so many variables is to keep track of everything.” Looking at your business's history is important to understand what went wrong.
49:00 - “Sometimes it is not only the customer's decision to hire you, but it is also my decision to if I don't like the person, but I also don't want to do business with them. If I don't have a good relationship, or we have a good vibe, they seem like they're just trying not to get me. I don't want to do business with them. I'll just say no.” When determining whether you and a customer are a right fit, sometimes it's not the customer who chooses that. You will base it on your assessment of the client. Then you can decide whether to accept the offer or not.
51:21 - “I don't really care about design. Taylor is a very good designer. I don't need to learn, I just need to trust him and just continuously give him leads, give him leads, give him leads, and he will close the deals and move forward. What I need to do is focus on marketing and closing deals, that's it.” The whole world does not need to be learned. The only thing you need to do is trust your employees to do the job for you. You hired them to perform a particular task that you couldn't do, so you could focus on your specialty, which is growing your business.

"You have to draw hard lines in the sand and make decisions you've never made before. I used to repeat to myself all the time, Albert Einstein said, the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and expect a different result. "Just one powerful conversation. You can leave change and implement something different in your business because you got around the right people. And then you can get to the point where you've been three, five years, and you've been in the trenches. And now you find yourself face to face with someone who's just getting started and they're all anxious. And they're like, bro, I'm afraid to leave my job or go full time in my business. Do you like bro, you got this, you got this. And then now you speak life into somebody else. And they leave change. 10 Feb 2023 | Should You Quote Window Cleaning Jobs in Person? | 00:21:48
On today's untrapped, I spoke with Anthony Heeman about what a business owner should and shouldn't do. Are there any common mistakes we make in our businesses that we are unaware of?In today's episode, we'll learn about Antony's tricks and how he manages his high-profile clients. How does he keep customers, and what should you do if you feel you need more confidence about facing your customers? We trade business secrets based on our experiences.“Customers can tell. They can tell when you're legit. And they can tell when you're confident. And I think that's probably one of the biggest things about dealing with people. They want to feel put at ease. They want to feel like you're a professional. They want you to take the freakin reins like people are stressed out in their life. And they're responsible for everything that goes on. They so badly just want to, like, give it this to somebody capable.”- Anthony
Why do you have to listen to today's episode. 0:11 - “ I like to make sure there's nothing that we're missing. I did Google-only quotes for a while back when I was first starting. And it's fine. If you're working in a pretty small service area, in my opinion, once you get into projects that are kind of complex, for example, I'm in window cleaning. So if you're doing new construction, window cleaning, you want to be able to see what's on the glass.”Anthony and Keith discuss In-Person Quotes vs Google-Only Quotes. There are pros and cons to each
5:19 - “ I don't want that. Because the people you're serving, it's like they expect a high level of service, like everybody is working for them essentially like they're at the top of their game. Like these are people that have it together. And it's like, you have to value their time if you are trying to save your time by quoting it halfway. And then you get out there, and you just wasted all of their time talking to them scheduling it coming out there. They're staying home from the businesses that they're trying to run. And then you're just showing up and saying, Sorry, pal, because I wanted to stay home. The best method for dealing with high-profile clients' scheduling problems.
5:54 - “setting the expectations as you did is a big thing. And let them know this is exactly what we're doing.”Providing your customers with clear expectations is crucial.
13:54 - “There's a learning curve with going into houses, especially if you're starting outside only like landscaping or pressure washing and then going inside a home.”Anthony believes that going into a customer's home can be challenging because not all customers have the same attitude. When dealing with high-profile clients, you need to learn how to blend in.
Key Takeaways “I don't want that. And then you're just showing up and being like, Sorry, pal, like actually like because I wanted to stay at home.” - Anthony Haamen
“I think I'm an extremely empathic person, and I'm talking about myself because maybe you watching might be the same. Some of my customers like very energetically as soon as I walk in the house some cars So, just jump up, start clean all the windows, and I'm almost like, my energy is like, I got this. And the customer was like, oh, cool, and they just go back to what they're doing. And I bang it out, and I'm happy. But for some customers, I walk into the house and feel like pins and needles. And I feel like, How come it's a different scenario for every house? You shouldn't have these emotions mixed with the business.” - Keith Kalfas

It's, it'll never bring you happiness, invest it back into your company and your company will keep paying you. And it's just this. Ying yang relationship with your company that your company will take care of you and you take care of your people and you have your, like you said, your own ecosystem where everybody is not capped." - Steve

02 Dec 2023 | The Inconvenient Secret to Levelling Up | 00:35:28
In this episode, Keith dives into the inconvenient truth about levelling up in life and business. From sharing personal mindset insights to discussing the impact of external circumstances and internal responses, Keith explores the gap between stimulus and response, drawing inspiration from Dr. Victor Frankl's book, "Man's Search for Meaning." He emphasizes the importance of facing challenges with resilience and choosing to respond to difficult situations. Keith also reflects on the concept of toughening up and building emotional resilience to navigate the adversities of business and life.
"The secrets to leveling up - surround yourself with A players and people who have a great attitude and who actually genuinely care about you. There are people who are coming to your life and they leave for just a season. And if you make the mistake of thinking that and opening your heart up too much to somebody who doesn't deserve that part of you. Then you're, you're opening yourself up to getting hurt." - Keith Kalfas Topics Covered:

In today's episode, I delved into the critical topic of understanding your worth in the business world. I shared valuable insights on setting boundaries, implementing minimum pricing, and the significance of prequalifying employees. My personal anecdotes and hard-earned wisdom paint a vivid picture of the challenges and triumphs entrepreneurs often face. My message is a powerful reminder that we are the architects of our worth as business owners. It's time to take control, stand firm in our value, and let this session embolden and guide us on our entrepreneurial path. I started raising the prices on the customers that were outside the service area incrementally without however far they were. It was so hard to do when customers dropped, by and they said, hey. Last year, it was a $1,000 to do all this. Why is it, you know, 12, 1400? And if you have a reason why, and you believe it in your heart, and you know your worth If you believe it in your heart, they'll feel it and you'll get it. And you'll start to get it more and more and more. - Keith

30 Jan 2023 | How to Curve Your Personal Development. A Conversation With Jobber’s Director of Brand Marketing and Communications Moly Milosovic | 00:50:09
It is important to keep your mind clear, have a balanced diet, and maintain a regular exercise regimen to shape your personal development. The job goes beyond just ensuring money is coming in or the job is completed. In order to execute the right plan for your business, you must also allow your knowledge to grow. Proper education will not only help you add mastership to your profession but will also give you an idea of what's the wise thing to do in a difficult situation. Those were the details of our conversation. Our discussion focused on how home service business owners can shape their personal development. In response to Molly's questions, I provided some tips and methods on how to exercise these practices. Which is the main focus of Jobber's summit this upcoming 1st of March. The goal is to provide small business owners with seminars and coaching to help them develop themselves. Join us in this exciting event that you can register for free.
Moly Milosovic leads Jobber's brand marketing and communications. Using brand partnerships, influencer marketing, communications, community programs, media relations, social media, and virtual and in-person activations, her team creates demand in a new market category, home service.
“I gotta say that someone on the outside looking in-home service is this really awesome community, and honestly, green industry, landscaping lawn care are really ahead of the curve where there's no gatekeeping, everybody's sharing knowledge with each other, and sharing what worked, what didn't work for them in the past, that's really great.” - Moly Milosovic
Why do you have to listen to today's episode. 1:13 - “My functional title, as I like to say, well, if this is true, is Director of Brand Marketing and Communications. But what I actually think makes more sense is Head of Community. And that's because I work with a team that is kind of focused on two things, one community initiative to share knowledge and learnings throughout home service.” A brief introduction to Moly Milosovic. Here's a little bit about how she got started in what she does now as Director of Brand Marketing and Communications at Jobber.
4:00 “So then I get down this path of like, oh my god, communication and the articulation of your communication, how well do you define the space in which you communicate? How well do you put rails up on your messaging and say, you know, we stand for this, which means we don't stand for this, and then being lukewarm.” During the conversation, Keith and Molly discuss the importance of communication in curving your personal development.
7:55 “Sometimes we get these life-changing epiphanies like we hear a very specific piece of information that's calibrated at the perfect time. And then what it does is, it's the one domino that connects all these other dots. And you wake up in your business, like if you're a landscape business, and it's the one thing that helps you overcome the fears.” During this interview, Keith talks about his life-changing epiphanies as a business owner.
14:25 “My friend Joshua Latimer said to me he's like, what's the most amount of money you've ever invested in your unlike a coaching program, I look like two grand he goes, that's the problem. You need to invest like five or 10 or 20 grand and then really put something on the line.” Keith recommends joining a mastermind group or coaching program not only to help you achieve personal growth but also to scale your business. Investing in your education is the best way to build a strong foundation to level up your business.
19:21 “So fitness is very important. So he said, like you said, consistency over intensity. Yeah. So I set these tiny little goals like, I'm just going to do 20 Push Ups. That's all I have to do today. And if I jog, I don't have a job. But I just had the power walk one time around the block. And it's like, so if you force yourself to jujitsu, that little tiny workout, but you got to do it.” Keith points out that when it comes to developing your personal development, it doesn't always refer to your mental health, but also to your physical health. He emphasized taking care of his health by doing some exercise that also helps him clear his head.
29:02 “In the Millionaire Mind book by T Harv. Eker. He talks about 80% Go. So he talks about not being a perfectionist. He says there's a saying I love it's like, don't wait till you get good until you get going, and then you'll get good. Right? Molly asked Keith the question about entrepreneurs being too hard on themselves. “If entrepreneurs are really hard on themselves. So there's this idea that you're doing it wrong. Or if you do it, you could think that you're not doing it the way you're supposed to or that you give up if you don't do it perfectly.” If you listen carefully, you will be surprised by his answer.
Key Takeaways “So I believe you have to get clear about the muck in your life in the places you're wasting time. And maybe you're bringing out, eating too much fast food and falling asleep, or you have toxic habits, identify all that stuff, and then go to work on that stuff to get that stuff out of the way once you let go of the heavy buckets of concrete or the sandbags or that things holding you down to the toxic relationship that you spent too much time or, you know, once you can get rid of that it's like, Whoa, it's like holding a beach ball under water. And it's so hard to do because it takes so much might, and then you finally let go, and the thing just pops up to the top and just starts floating on top of the water. Why? Because that's its natural state. So what I mean by that is now you can free up all this mental and emotional bandwidth before you can actually start to receive more new information. You might have to get rid of old stuff.” - Keith Kalfas “You could be could read a book, listen to a podcast, come to an event like dauber Summit. And you'll get, hopefully, really tangible information. But then the idea of, okay, I want to go deeper on this topic, or I want to go even better in this and then invest in a course or a coach. What that speaks to me about is accountability. I personally like setting up meetings to meet with people. So I have like an every three-week meeting with a mentor. When I'm reading a book, I often like to find someone in my life or on my team to a book club with so that I have to have notes ready to talk to them about it every couple of weeks.” - Moly Milosovic “We look up to people, and we think that they're perfect. I like how we're trading epiphanies here because that reminds me of another quote that I recently heard about how if you see someone doing something at that expert level for the 100th time they're doing it, you have to remember that they did have a first time that they did that thing. And it did not go that well. That's how they became an expert. It's not that they woke up one day and they were just magically bestowed with that talent. So yeah, the people we look up to aren't perfect, and they have totally screwed up. But they had the bravery.” - Moly Milosovic

24 Jul 2023 | Why You Need to Earn a 50% Profit Margin on Every Single Job with Robert Gauvreau | 00:19:10
In this episode, we explore the 50% gross profit margin rule, a game-changing principle shared by Robert Gauvreau that involves knowing your project costs, doubling them, and achieving a 50% profit margin for a solid foundation in your business. Discover the difference between markup and gross profit margin, how to use the 50% margin as a financial benchmark, and why understanding your numbers is crucial in the entrepreneurial journey. Robert emphasizes the analogy of a scoreboard – without tracking the score (your margins), how can you make informed decisions? Keith stresses the importance of being aware of true costs, not just the obvious ones, to drive better business decisions. Join us to unlock the secrets of financial success and build a thriving business that lasts. Let's dive in!
"For every job you're going to do. And you're going to price, you want to know what the costs are associated with delivering that project, right, you need to know all the material all the time, all the travel, everything, get very well informed of what that looks like. And then take that cost and double it, when you double it, it will give you a 50% profit margin on your job. And that is a benchmark that you can take to the bank. And it will help build you the foundation of a really strong, financially successful business." - Robert Gauvreau Topics Covered:
Key Takeaways
"100% markup is a 50% profit. So this is the last thing that's really occurring to me is Well, I do know my numbers, I do have a bookkeeper, we do get p&l statements. And I know every single penny coming in and out of the business, right, and it allows me to make better decisions, right. And I was frustrated when I didn't know that. So what sometimes when people say things like that, maybe they might be thinking that either or they're not thinking because they don't know they're not aware, or they're pointing to other people. And like a speculation to that. Maybe the people you're saying this too, aren't aware of their true costs, they just see the costs that are right in front of them, but they're not calculating all of the back end, and ongoing, you know, variable costs and all these different things." - Keith Connect with Robert LinkedIn: https://ca.linkedin.com/in/robert-gauvreau-fcpa-fca-93531430 Connect with Keith Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/keithkalfas/

Join us as we discuss how he was able to take a step into this industry and learn how you can make high profits with ponds and water features!
– Jeff Michaels
Keith introduces today’s awesome guest, Jeff Michaels, as they talk about Jeff’s experience of traveling to nine different states to do various aquascape work over the past couple of years, like installing a water feature at a zoo. 05:52 – “The more money you’re gonna make is basically on smaller scale jobs. It’s not always the bigger jobs.” What are the profit margins that somebody can see versus general property maintenance of trimming people’s bushes, installing mulch, and cutting grass? How’s the money made in the aquascape industry? 09:10 – “If a customer wants me to really get artistic using bigger boulders and really take our time on doing these jobs, it’s going to cost a little bit more because you’re spending more time on it.” Jeff gives a cookie-cutter recommendation as he shares how he was able to do nine grand works in a day and how you can do the same. 13:54 – “When I got done with that job, and she looked at it, she had nothing to say…She ended up being one of the best customers I’ve ever had.” Talking about Jeff’s first pond job, highlighting how he could do it even when he had no experience in the business as he was a machine builder 25 years ago. 15:56 – “There’s always money to be made on just this one customer alone. It’s a revolving money-making business.” What do the terms pond clean out, shut down, and start-up mean? How do Jeff and his team do it under certain circumstances? 21:13 – “Now that I know what I know now and we’ve got all the processes in place, that really doesn’t happen.” Discussion about doing the right things when taking care of your ponds and fishes. 24:05 – “Keep it simple stupid. Don’t go into this industry thinking, ‘Okay, I’m going to get a dump trailer. I’m going to go buy an excavator. I started out with my pickup truck, wheelbarrow, shovels, and all that. As long as you have that, you can get a business started doing water features.” The first step and first pieces of equipment you would need if you want to dive into this industry 28:28 – “It’s a passion. When you’re passionate about something, you get excited about it, and you want to do more.” Does Jeff’s whole life revolve around ponds? What’s the dopest thing he’s ever done regarding a pond? 33:01 – Serious about getting into this industry? Pondering Waters is doing some massive hiring right now!
“On the smallest stock, smaller scale, I tried to focus on a 50% profit margin; that’s my profit margin. Larger scale, you can try to get that 50%, but it’s really tricky because one thing goes wrong on a large project, there goes your profit margin.” “The biggest thing when you’re doing projects like this is knowing your numbers. If a company does not know your numbers, you can really go down south pretty quick.” “It all goes back to tracking and knowing your numbers. You get to know what your operational costs are. I think that’s where a lot of contractor kind of mess up a little bit.” “You got to have something and experiment with it. You got to know what you’re talking about. You can take all the classes you want, but what happens if you experience something at your own pond that you haven’t experienced because, basically, you’re doing it through books and videos? Sometimes, something might come up that you don’t know about. You need to know how to handle it. That’s where having your own pond actually comes into play.”

"The next 7 years of my life are going to be hell. Five to seven years, but seven years to pay off these karmic debts. I never did anything wrong. I wasn't a bad person, but to dig myself out of this hole and build and establish my life. It seemed like an eternity, but I did the math and the math said seven years is going to go by either way. So in seven years, you're going to crawl out of this fucking hole. And finally be somebody. And it's not going to be the person you always wanted to be. You're not going to be a somebody you have to just accept the fact that you're an average Joe. And you will have a chance at being an average Joe or you're going to be a fucking loser. 09 Feb 2024 | You Don't Need the Approval of Other Men | Learn How to Deal with Rejection and Become Empowered | 00:13:57
In this episode, Keith Kalfas imparts empowering lessons learned from his entrepreneurial journey. These include the importance of creating value for others, self-reliance, and maintaining a balance between receiving help and doing things independently. He stresses that quality communication holds great significance and shares how acceptance of rejection helped him progress. He also highlights how over-reliance on self-sufficiency can lead to a stagnation in growth. Incorporating experiences from his music and landscaping businesses, he advocates for the necessity of asking for help and the significance of building relationships. He ends by encouraging his audience to not fear rejection, try new things, and share what type of content they wish to see from him in the future.
- Keith Kalfas
"Have interactions with others, especially those who are more successful or experienced, with a mindset of offering value rather than just seeking something for yourself. Instead of solely focusing on what you can gain from them, consider what you can bring to the table and how you can create value for them. This approach not only increases the likelihood of a positive response but also fosters genuine connections and relationships built on mutual benefit. Additionally, it's important to be mindful of the quality of your communication and how it impacts the responses you receive from others. If you find yourself consistently facing rejection or avoidance, it may be necessary to improve the quality of your communication and interactions." - Keith Kalfas Connect with Keith Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/keithkalfas/

And now I find myself investing money into my education, and into my business more than because it's like a conscious choice, step by step, I can get this thing now that depreciates and it's cool for five minutes. 21 Aug 2023 | Mowing & Life Priorities with Johnny Mow | 01:19:24
Welcome back to The Untrapped Podcast, where we dive deep into the art of mastering time for life success. As Johnny Mow aptly puts it, "It's all about your time. So the older I get, the more valuable my time is, and becoming a master of my time is critical to life success." In today's episode, we're exploring key topics and insights from Keith and our guest, Johnny, as they share their wisdom on time management, personal growth, and prioritization.
"It's all about your time. That's what he said. So the older I get, the more valuable my time is and becoming master my time is critical to life success. " - Johnny Mow Topics Covered:
Key Takeaways "And I said I'm gonna change actually, I dropped a whole bunch of accounts. I started prioritizing my time. And I don't know if you can see this, but I have like five statements I live by. And this is one of them. It says proper planning prevents poor performance. And when it comes to priority prioritization of your family, you have to plan for it. It has to be on your mind. As soon as you get up in the morning. " - Johnny
"When you change the way you see things, the things that you see literally change, just like going through this like putting your hand on a hot stove, and it burns the hell out of you like running around. I'm just on a quick rant here. Yeah, for your customers. 00:30 - “For me. Landscaping is mulch, shrub trimming, that type of stuff, the maintenance type things, and in small, like small planning type thing. So that's what we do.” In this interview, Mack discusses how he runs his business and which area he specializes in. 3:12 - “Let's just say it's $500 $500.05 $100. Well, we just cut that $1,500 into monthly payments, and add that to the mowing price. So now if you're mowing, I don't know what that math would be. It's 32 weeks for 10 - 30 bucks. So we'd add an extra $30 On to the mowing price. And then that gets them. The shrubs touched anytime there was anything out of order. So then you never have to come and do a whole job. It's just you come to touch up the stuff. They still pay the same price if just carried out over the season. Right. So big lump sum payment.” He explains how they quantify maintenance, as well as how much they charge and how they schedule their work. 15:05 - “You have to be super detailed when the state is doing their investigation because every restraint or every injury or every car accident gets investigated. And you have to write it out like a police report. Basically, I ain't no cop or nothing, but I learned very well how to write out because the state will scrutinize you, then they'll bring you in, and then you'll get interviewed like real people. And there are real consequences if somebody actually got hurt or something like that.” Keeping your business detailed is essential, Mack advises.
Mac shares his marketing strategies for getting customers in faster and getting good ones. Visibility is key for him. You can make a video, post it on social media, and share it with the world. It will serve as a portfolio for you. 20:46 - “You have had to, in order to do all of this, you've had to watch some videos, you had to listen to something and everything like you got to get a little bit of knowledge. And then you can talk confidently.” Whenever you talk confidently, you have the ability to charge whatever you wish. Since the customer does not know the actual price, Mack explains that sounding confident and firm will make it more credible.
23:52 - “When you tell them yes confidently we do this full time every single day. This is All we do, and so I can literally go tell the customer I'll be back in 15 minutes hop in the chair, can pull up my CRM, and make a well-worded highly detailed quote, like you were saying, or negotiate it verbally right on the spot. I try not to do that in a higher ticket job because you can make a mistake like you want to cross every T and dot every I, it's a little tiny thing that if you're not sure, and you're like, Oh, I'll cross that bridge when we get there. That could be $1,200 You're leaving on the table, or if cost you $500. So, confidence goes a long way. Because the customers can feel it, whether they can articulate it or not, it resonates.” There's no way for the customer to know whether you do this on the side or once in a while. You should have the confidence to provide the customer with your best quote. You can get a big deal easily that way. Keep your head up and be confident.
A person automatically places faith in you when you demonstrate your ability to do something. Mack's philosophy remains the same to this day.
When Mac sends proposals to clients, he sometimes forgets that people say no to him. No matter how many rejections he receives, he keeps going.
Key Takeaways “If you want to make more money in your lawn and landscape business, first you got to get customers but you got to increase the average ticket value of customers by raising your prices and knowing your worth you got to increase the frequency of transactions which is done more for them more often. How do you do that you got to have a customer follow-up and lead generation referral system in place, you got to do email marketing, you got to do voicemail blasts,s and stay on top of mine, and constantly follow and communicate up with them and turn that customer into a client into a raving fan. So that way like they're locked in and then get referrals. So you build that out by having just a little bit of strategy but being proactive and consistent in how you do it.” - Keith Kalfas

The episode concludes with an impactful prayer session, further emphasizing the role of faith in achieving entrepreneurship success. "What are your 10X goals? Key Takeaways I started looking at things and saying, "Okay, the lawn business is bringing in, you know, six figures, it's bringing in good money and the media business is bringing in a lot money and it's actually more than the lawn business." And I realized if I would, I need to double down on one or the other, that the Pareto principle, the 80, 20 rule. Is 20 percent of your income or input is going to produce 80 percent of the results. And so I was noticing I'm making a lot of money doing this right here, but I barely do any of that because I'm doing all this other stuff over here, right? - Paul

"Know that you are 2 different people. You are a CEO, and you are an owner. We like to use the term owner operator a lot in the service industry, And even that is 2 separate words, and they are 2 different people. We just smash them together like it's the same person. But owners don't have jobs. Owners don't get paychecks. Owners sit on a beach and get dividend checks and check in every once in a while to see what's going on. CEOs or operators have jobs, get a paycheck, show up to work, do the thing, and make operating decisions, which are different than investment decisions."- Dan Platta

00:00 Identify and address toxic employees promptly. 04:28 Be mindful of your actions; they're emulated.
"I was going through a bad mistake because now you've set a precedent where it's okay for them to now start talking about their stuff. And now you become more like friends, instead of the role you're playing of like you're supposed to be the leader, and they're supposed to be working, which is great. You appreciate them, of course. But now it's changed the dynamics of the relationship where there are unhealthy boundaries that aren't being set. And you're paying for the whole thing. You're paying for all of it" - Keith Kalfas

10 Nov 2023 | The 3 Purgatories of Scalling a Business | 02:00:26
In this engaging and insightful podcast episode, the conversation dig into the challenges of scaling a business, significance of transitioning customers into loyal, recurring clients. We discuss the critical role of profit and loss statements in business analysis and how to identify potential trouble areas in scaling, particularly related to hiring and administration. The talk centers on the entrepreneurial journey, highlighting the importance of enjoying the problem-solving process that every growth phase brings. They touch on the power of social media platforms like Facebook for networking, the significance of organized financial records, and briefly introduce the topic of hiring strategies.
"Just know that there's always going to be a set of problems out there. Whether you stay small, go medium, go big, whatever it is, the biggest thing to know is that it's going to be rough getting there. It's a journey. Enjoy the journey." - Dan Platta Topics Covered:
Key Takeaways "There might be people come back once every year, a couple of years, whatever, maybe even twice a year. If you don't turn that customer into a client, into a raving fan and a recurring, some type of recurring revenue client where you don't have to go out and get. a new customer, like pay to market and advertise and build a relationship and all this shit. Then you are constantly filling up that one big hole in a bucket that's constantly draining with time, energy and money. So building a business that has recurring revenue model that grows and grows and grows on the back end with clients that are sticky, that keep coming back every single At least every quarter or something." - Keith
"There's shitty things about staying small. There's, the inverses of those are what applies to a scaled business when you're scaling on the positives. Yeah, it can make more money for sure, right? If you can bring in more revenue and manage it correctly of scaled business can make as much money as you want it to make. If it's just you and you're small- there's a ceiling on how much money you make like you can literally only make so much money because there's so many hours in a day. When you scale a business that ceiling is gone " - Dan Connect with Dan LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dan-platta-30736b31 Connect with Keith Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/keithkalfas/

"Your job is not to convince people to let you clean their windows. Your job is to find people who have disposable income." - Keith Kalfas Topics Covered:
Key Takeaways "You got to keep marketing and advertising and working and growing and your worth and you got to keep them how you got him that's what I mean it's there's customers that if you if you got them at a low price sometimes you got to keep them that way you can might be able to do a little little incremental prices. But if you're gonna come in also with this new high price you're gonna freak them out. When you get brand new customers who don't know the old you who didn't know who when you had a low self esteem, low confidence, they just know you now they don't know that used to charge deeper and they just accepted at 400 bucks a house. Like this is a whole psychology mindset game of you understanding that, like they don't know that you don't know anything about you." - Keith

19 Dec 2022 | Your Life Is the Quality of Your Experience - Inspirational Talk | 00:13:29
You cannot define your maturity by your age. You can be in your 50s and still be living in a world of misconceptions... Keeping your illusions in place will never allow you to reach your maturity level. The only time you will reach maturity is when you awaken from your dreams. Reaching your full potential requires letting go. Today on the show, let's talk about getting out of your comfort zone. I want to share with you both my journey and the journey of my loved ones as examples of how you can objectively look at your consciousness. Now is the time to grow up.
“Even the happiest times of your life were also illusions.” -Keith Kalfas
Why do you have to listen to today's episode.
2:20 - “Oh, he's suffering. And I could see it. He was suffering because he wanted that dream so badly. He wanted to go back and just be a rock and roll star. He wanted to feel the feeling. He never got his real chance to really play it out and was abandoned. And that old part of him was still holding on.” This is my cousin's story about letting go of his dream and illusions, waking up to reality, and embracing maturity.
4:39 - “Your life being the happiest times of your life is when you're just in a state of bewilderment like you're telling yourself a story in your head. And that story creates emotions and can seem so real to you that you feel like you're in bliss or like you're living in complete nightmarish hell. And you're suffering and depression and anxiety in either way. It's really about the attachments and the meaning that you create out of these circumstances and stories.” As soon as you let go of these attachments, you will realize that there is more to life than these illusions. Accepting the truth and facing reality is the only thing you can do. The more you learn, the more you'll objectify, and the more you'll step back and raise your consciousness as you awaken.
6:33 - “He totally took advantage of me and ripped me off. And my mind was blown. I was like, this person literally ripped me off and never ever paid me. And we're not friends anymore. But for some reason, in my head, I still think this person is awesome. Because this person I laughed with, learned from and got a lot of great advice from, I should be angry with this person forever." It is also true that the happiest times in your life are illusions. It's the ability to let go of the past, anything negative, forgive, and move on that leads to enlightenment.
10:04 - “You have a choice. No matter how small that little gap is, there's always the freedom of choice” The meaning of things is derived from the context in which they are found. You can choose to have bliss and gratitude no matter what you are going through.
