15 Oct 2024 | Episode 64. "The Devil's Washing Machine" | 00:38:24
Hey there dearest Patron and listener.
First lift back with Tom in over a month as he got covid quite a few weeks back poor fella and it's knocked him for six somewhat. The he got a chest infection post 'the whole shebang' making this our first actual lift back together face to face for quite some weeks.
It was a delightful bright morning up at Hacksaw Ridge as we scaled Tom's 1 in 1 ski-jump of a garden. We did a bit of lifting, but mainly caught up on important recent events. None more so than the profound experience that is - getting a new washing machine.
Enjoy the podcast friends

06 Nov 2022 | Episode 7. "Powder Keg" | 01:06:35
Hello there dearest Patrons and listeners.
This is an absolute bumper edition of the The Unlikely Weightlifters Podcast. Weighing in at a full 1hour and 5 minutes of tangential conversation with the ever hilarious Tom Wrigglesworth. This pod is really finding it's feet and ONLY CONTAINS ABOUT 3 MINUTES THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH WEIGHTLIFTING!
In todays episode There a new them tune! A huge rant about building inspectors, Tom uses the phrase "an absolute powder keg of unresolved grief" which for my money, is utter poetry, we discuss Macerators, we tear Mark Zuckerberg a new one, there's a huge piece of financial advice regarding clingfilm and Tom retails me with one of the most SURPRISING STORIES I'VE HEARD FOR MANY YEARS and can't believe I already didn't; know about him.

Hello there Dearest Patrons, listeners and fellow gravity fighters.
It's time for the podcast that's about everything except weightlifting. Merely the backdrop to around an hour of entertaining waffle about topics such as...
Hair pomades, Insulation, Damp Proof Membranes, Homes under the hammer and Dion Dublin's classic "stairs up to the bedrooms" compilation. Rob's confusing relationships with tradesmen always feeling like the final scene of 'The Remains of the Day", the problems of overheating and thermal underwear. Ben Ottewell from the marvellous band Gomez, flannels and microfibre cloths and the first whiff of yuletide knobbiness appearing in comedy gigs to name but a few.

05 Dec 2022 | Episode 11. Severe plumbing issues | 00:52:57
Hello there Dearest Listeners and Patrons.
Welcome to the podcast.
What a treat it was to record this episode with Tom. As you'll find out, this episode sets the record for the least weightlifting content (all will be revealed) of all time.
However, there are huge revelations regarding plumbing, both human and domestic and a free flowing conversation with Tom that left me heartily entertained and my laughing muscles well and truly put through their paces.
Hope it entertains you too.
WARNING it does contain details of a lavatorial event (not too graphic though and hopefully delivered almost broadcastable on radio)
Big Love and explosive power to you all.

27 Feb 2023 | episode. 20 'A bit "Jan-Feb"' | 01:01:25
Hey Dear Listener! why not join us on Patreon
Here's episode 20!!! Me and Tom both come into this one slightly on the back foot. He's recovering from a back injury, DIY related of course, and I've just had a diagnosis of Athritis in my feet which has somewhat hobbled me over the last week or so.
However, we lean into the waffle with full commitment as we set out to become social media influencers. As social media influencers we are looking, not only to show off our pert bootys, but also maybe to spread the message that sometimes, you really don't feel like it, cos everything's gone a but "Jan-Feb"
Perhaps one of the most important exercises we need to learn, is letting ourselves off the hook and exercising our waffling muscles?!

Dearest Patrons, Gravity deniers and Listeners,
Here's Ep. 22 of The Unlikely Weightlifters Podcast. It's hard to overemphasise the pressure this episode was recorded under.
We were literally trapped inside a breaking news story of snow falling onto planet earth, schools were on the brink of closure, if not already closed, all this against a backdrop of a seasonal salad shortage.
Jean still found the time to utterly bring the internet to it's knees, Tom is up to his neck in a Piano tuner and we share listener feedback and stories.
All recorded against that backdrop of uncertainty.

29 Mar 2023 | Episode 24. "Socks and Pants" | 00:51:04
Dearest beloved listener and potential patron. First of all apologies for this being a bit later than usual, but availability of the magnificent Tom Wrigglesworth in full plumage, and a slight editing nightmare necessitated a Wednesday release.
Hopefully it was worth the wait and I think it's a cracker of an episode. Obviously there is in depth discussion about pants and socks, but also the nightmare of passport renewal, records are broken left right and centre and there's even a welcome return to the discussions of Luciano Pavarotti and his "1 big bang and I'm all done" approach to his ablutions and much much more.
Something for everyone in fact.

At the point of going to broadcast I have since discovered further despatches from our Middlesborough correspondent, which will feature in next weeks episode, who knows how much data we'll be crunching by then.
Also on the show we discuss building robots, angry neighbours and there are trace elements of weightlifting.

Of course it contains all the most up to date data on the National Pant Cage census, and further reflections of Tom's trip to Glasgow. We discuss the value of keeping perspective on things that we have absolutely no control over, PB's are smashed left right and centre and Helen's been on Radio 4!
A truly bumper episode which really IS NOT about weightlifting.

UWP Ep.35 "Post-Op Unbaked Garlic Baguettes"
Now then Dearestestist listeners, patrons, lifters and waffle enthusiasts it’s episode 35.
Rob (I am/are) is? post surgery (MTP Fusion on the right foot if you’ve got a strong stomach and want to deep dive on that) If any of that makes you bottom twitter scroll forward about 10 mins and you’ll be straight into the waffle.
For Obvious reasons, Rob’s (I’m) not lifting so have the pleasure of admiring Tom’s sensational form as he does the heavy lifting, but we both put an absolute shift in on the chatter here.
On the conversational menu today, Surgical recovery, Opiates bung you up, Rob’s Shaq trainers, The hazards of buying offal online, Using antique rackets and bats without realising they are antiques and the mysterious fires at Sheffield dry ski slope.
Helen also appears, seemingly just to tell Tom about my improvised post-op, night-time toilet arrangements. Thanks Helen. We have superb Pant Cage UK Data from both Bedford and Derby courtesy of Jonothan Eastwood and William & Kayleigh Gardener, huge thanks to them all, we're mapping this countries pant cages at an astonishing rate.
Also, Tom receives correspondence from an amateur dramatics group and Rob has a HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT!!!
Absolutely Jam Packed this ep! So it's a bumper length and girth release.
Enjoy and big love to one and all!

First lift proper (ish) with Tom since my operation and nothing could have prepared me for the BOMBSHELL that Tom was to drop in this one and if you've been with us from the start, you too will be chilled to the bone! And you will laugh, don't panic.
Also we talk the terror of Pinterest, how a Henry Hoover can work perfectly without a bag, Tom's new haircut, inspired by Sydney Opera House and we have an amazing letter from a listener suggesting a radically new form of underpants!

Tom also has an unbelievable customer service story regarding some corrugated plastic roofing which leaves him Cook a Hoop! We discuss the psychological processes involved in weeing into a bottle. Rob checks in with Tom regarding his hoover repair issues whilst Tom has recycling bin in the boot of his car. Is this all making sense?
We discuss our favourite household refuse tips and someone’s been watching Rob’s Special on the plane! And much much more, or less, depending on your perspective!

19 Sep 2023 | Episode 39. "A Bit of Tommy Time" | 00:46:46
Hola, dearest listener and beloved patron,
Hope you're well in your world.
I'm well aware I blither away on here, bouncing around like some kind of methylated Tigger character, but I'm not gonna lie to you, I've been feeling a bit on the more shites-ville side of myself this last week or so. Despite getting back on the horse at the comedy village live shows, I think there's been quite a bit going on internally. Healing from the operation, little kids off to big school, nights drawing in, whilst at the same time feeling a tad vulnerable, older and weaker as a result of the op. It's a building back process that I'm aware of, but live stand up is very much a 'match fit' kind of operation and as I've headed back into that side of things, I've felt conscious of a considerable amount of ring-rust!
But as I know, even when the sun is behind the clouds, it's still up there innit, so despite it absolutely hammering it down with rain yesterday, Tom convinced me to go for a lift outdoors at Platypus heights!
I'm so glad I did. Being cold and wet really helped calm my mind from pointlessly churning things over, notwithstanding the slightly ludicrous physical effort it requires, I found it really theraputic. Of course, sharing the time laughing with Tom was, and always is, an absolute tonic. And as I'm attempting to remain conscious of my need to look after myself on all levels, as I navigate through the weeds towards clearer waters, it was both heartwarming and hilarious to hear how Tom had been treating himself over the last couple of weeks!
I'm so tempted to drop the hint here, but I'll let you listen to find out. It's well worth it!
Big shout out to Steve Swindon and Lucy Haskell for their superb "Pant Cage Reports" as well.
Big Love to you all and
Enjoy the podcast.

02 Oct 2023 | Episode 40. "The Pinking Shear Front and Centre" | 01:02:45
Hello Dearest Listener and potential PATRON?!
It's our 40th! We've made it, it's a big number, it's a big party... but sadly Tom's put his back out inbetween podcast recordings, so there's even less lifting in this podcast than usual. HOWEVER We sat down, round the microphones like a real podcast and it all tumbled out. In this episode we BLOW THE LID OFF BIG BUSINESS, corporate giants like Wyndsor's world of shoes and brought to their knees. I report from the Balham pant cage, we celebrate the pinking shear, I meet a bona-fide listener out on a dog walk and Tom unearths a remarkable never before heard detail in the Beatles classic 'Let it Be'
A huge bumper ep, recorded on high quality microphones, mixed and polished for your listening pleasure!

Hello there dearest listener and potential Patron
This week we’re proudly (not) sponsored by Plumbers Mate. More importantly it’s Tom’s first lift back since his back went twang.
Poor Rob had a torrid time by the side of the road on snake pass with a wholly avoidable bowel incident.
Tom gets lost en route to a show and soothes Rob’s bruised psyche by sharing an equally harrowing even that beset his guts one weekend in Birmingham.
And Pant Cage UK heads to Warrington courtesy of Listener Mike Norris
Please keep you Pant Cage UK reviews coming in, they really are a joy to receive and never forget, this is crucial work.

16 Oct 2023 | Episode 42. "Basically Wearing My Hairdresser's Emotions" | 00:47:44
Hey there Dearest Listeners and potential Patron
This week, I’m suspicious that Tom appears to have got himself into some for of regular hairdressing contract which of course, has terrifying echoes of the 'unwritten Hoover repair 'contracts he has become embroiled in, in recent months.
Robot Hoovers also hit the headlines in this episode, with emotive feedback polemic on their purchases from both Helen and Mr. Wrigglesworth.
There’s a Lovely pant cage review from listener Steve Burley, direct from Sheffield Meadowhall and we postulate whether any dishwasher is actually fit for purpose. Plus loads more waffle.

Rob (I) describe the most rock and roll I've ever seen and also connected to that, I recently witnessed the least rock and roll thing I could have ever imagined. 21 Nov 2023 | Episode 46. "Toucan Upgrade" | 00:41:23
A welcome away lift for Rob this week at Platypus heights. It was a crisp & bright autumn/winter's day, perhaps a fitting tribute to one of Tom's chickens which had expired the day before. Tom had been to see Ben Folds Five at a theatre in York and was blown away by the sheer lack of lavatories. The weightlifting platform is sporting a new pigeon deterrent (see bonus video content) and we discuss made up school classroom sports such as desk golf and penny rugby (or was it American Football?) We also talk about the power and authority of being put in ones place by a calm child!

12 Dec 2023 | Episode 47. "Might as well put the macerator on with the light" | 01:01:18
Hello there Dearest Listeners and Patrons,
Firstly, profound apologies for the lack of pod the last couple of weeks, but between us we've all variously been injured or ill or had sick kids and or partners, and in Tom's case a little bit of both. However like all things, they have passed and it was great to get back under the bar with the Sheffield maestro.
Huge thanks goes to regular listener and pant cage UK contributor Steve Swindon in the ep and a VERY SPECIAL GUEST he recorded a pant cage report with. I don't want to pop it in the blurb here as it's just too wonderful and want you to experience it for yourselves in your own moment. Suffice it to say, this is the greatest pant cage review I've ever had the pleasure of being involved with, it's both delightfully funny and moving!

25 Dec 2023 | Episode 48. "Poetry of The Pant Cage & The Christmas Blanking Plate Debacle" | 01:13:48
Hey there Dearest Listeners and potential Patrons,
Seasons greetings to you and good will to all humans! Baa-Humbug, mince pies and reindeers to one and all and little Donkeys all round with their massive loads all round.
Here's a bumper Christmas Edition of 'the podcast that really isn't about weightlifting'. It's my first one back since having hoof No.2 operated on, which seems to be healing well (I'm now able to hobble about in my special sandal and should be back to stand up as planned in January!)
Tom reveals his sensational hair after a second round of lowlights, our weightlifting appears to have had a significant positive effect on a certain aspect of my recovery, Tom forgets his ID for a gig on a military base and by thunder we have a sensational Pant Cage Poem from listener Paul Martin which really sets the Seasonal tone with a sense of wonder and joy!
Tom has an ingenious solution to reduce waste at Christmas, we attempt to stick it to the man and of course, it wouldn't be Christmas without a tale of me having to unblock my mother-in law's drains. Not her fault at all, the blame can squarely and 100% be placed at my own, clown shod shoes.
Thanks for all your support over the year and here's to 2024 to all of you and we'll see you on the other side very very soon

Hello there Dearest Patrons and Listeners.
It’s the first outdoor lift of the 2024 Season. Tom blows the lid off another huge baby milk story and explains how Rymans the stationers are bizarrely an official retailer for soda-stream!
Having just watched touching the void again, I'm rather freaked out by the sheer number of climbers frozen into the ice walls on the way up to the top of Tom's garden and Tom brings us a sensational Pant Cage UK report from the Nation's Capital the video of which is available on the exclusively on PATREON

We hope this finds you in good fettle. It's time for another episode of the weightlifting podcast that really does only contain trace elements of weightlifting at the best of times. Plenty to discuss this week as we recorded this hot off the back of my (Rob's) 50th Birthday trip to New York that Helen so kindly took me on. I've wanted to go since I can't remember way back when and I've found it hard to truly articulate how brilliant an experience it was to visit, like London the sheer depth of humanity and life on display blew my little country mouse socks off! Hello there Dearest Patron and listener,
Apologies for the tardiness of episodic releases, but you'll hopefully be pleased to know I'm back in the editing saddle and there's a couple in the chute on their way to your earpipes.
So many randon topics covered in this episode recorded between rest periods.
Tom reckons he'd be ok with being micro-chipped if that every comes to pass and we discuss the massive pendulum swings of health and safety regulations with regard to the fact we used to have a gas lighting system in a caravan essentially made out of cardboard. Different times!
Also on the table are the joys of drinking "shit instant" Coffee and Rob is wearing a very comfortable pair of ladies tracksuit trousers that were way too long in the leg for Helen, but seem perfect for weight lifting.
Enjoy the podcast and while your listening to this, I'll put the finishing touches to the next one and release these in (for us) rapid succession.

Hey there Dearest Listener and potential Patron.
First of all, my profoundest apologies for the recent break in output and sporadic podcast episodes. In hindsight, I really should have addressed it personally with you all, but I didn't and feel bad about that. I'm so sorry and hope you know I'd never take your support for granted.
We've had a full 'back to school related' bugs that have clobbered us (Me and Tom in succession) and I'm sure you've had your fair share too as the kids go back to school - (The petri dish of germs) and our immune systems are put through another 'Joe Wicks esque' boot camp.
So this ep was actually recorded in the summer, it may contain the odd reference to the Euros which obv has happened - no spoilers though in case anyone wants to watch the whole thing on catch-up - but it's full of the usual nonsense for which you come here for your recommended weekly (diahrrea permitting) portion of.

10 Oct 2024 | Episode 63 - LIVE - "Straight Outta Buxton" | 00:58:17
Hey there Dearest Patron and listener.
This Episode was recorded Live at The Buxton Festival 2024 On July 21st. It's the first time me and Tom had attempted some sort of live version of the podcast. It was a huge amount of fun and as all of it was 'untried' we ended up getting through about 10% of what we'd planned as the wheels inevitably and comically fell off. The was a "visual element" to a portion of it, so I've edited round those bit and where needed added a small amount of "Audio description". I think it's definitely the beginning of something.
Enjoy and big LOve XXX
