13 Sep 2023 | 23. U Tingle 2? | A deepdive into the music of U2 | 01:29:40
This week our hosts and brothers-from-different-mothers, Mike and Bob, take a deep dive into arguably the biggest Irish musical export since the uilleann pipes. U2 exploded from the Emerald Isle in the late 1970s with music that vibrated with anger and protest and energy. Throughout the 80s their music matured, but their style remained easily identifiable. The 90s were a decade of exploration, with Bono, The Edge, Larry and Adam pushing musical boundaries, mixing sound and visuals into grandiose concert productions. The double-naughts saw the band release some of their biggest singles; anthems specifically created for the huge stadium shows that by now had become the hallmark of the band. And through it all, as any true U2 fans would, Bob and Mike have argued over the best era of the band. Bob favours the 90s and beyond but Mike stubbornly refuses to leave the 80s and argues for that era as the best U2 Tingles period. Which U2 incarnation will win the battle of the Feels? Find out on the latest episode of the Tingles!
