Joel Thomas is a singer, songwriter, podcaster and cryptid hunter from Cincinnati Ohio. Having always been involved in some facet of music since childhood, he started the group, VanTesla, with Quan Duke in early 2021 with their self titled debut. This spawned a number of VanTesla related and Joel Thomas solo projects over the following two years which eventually morphed into the brand and label, VanTesla Music. During that time, Joel connected with Tony Merkel from The Confessionals Podcast and CEO of Merkel Media who brought him on board with a documentary team to go on expeditions into the strange world of the paranormal, cryptids and UFOs. His first documentary, "Expedition Dogman", was a huge success and found its way to Amazon Prime among other streaming platforms. Joel also connected with Sean Chris, who started Kill The Mockingbirds Podcast, who asked Joel to come on board to joint host the show which soon after was picked up by Merkel Media's family of podcasters. Joel has never been conventional in anything he has ever pursued in life, which resonates with people the authenticity he tries to bring with everything he is involved in. Then we started seeing him pop up in other creators livestreams and contributing in the chats. He started tuning into our livestreams and we quickly started a conversation with him. Mikey and Bub sit down with their dear friend Ron Holgado from The Parachute People. We met Ron after 2016 Bonnaroo when we took a photo at Band of Horses and the then "Roo Chute" was in the background. Ron saw my post on Insta and DMd me. I told him how incredible the parachute experience was at Roo. I found out Ron was from Columbus, then ended up meeting up for a parachute bloom in Columbus and became fast friends. The Parachute People are holding an event Thursday, 4/5 to celebrate their roots in the community. The link is below if you want to join the event! Pt 1 | The Parachute People: Ron Holgado Ron Holgado, a 30-something native of Columbus, Ohio on a path of self-discovery and ultimate fulfillment. Working in healthcare for the last 10 years, Ron has devoted a life of service both in the hospital and in his communities, radiating positivity wherever he goes. Ron is the co-creator and founding member of The Parachute People, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to create community through play to empower personal well-being. Him and his friends have been traveling to major music festivals across the United States since 2014 bringing their gym class parachute (yes, just like the ones from elementary school) to invite audiences to be a kid again and just PLAY! This concept of bringing a parachute to create happiness blossomed from a 10-day silent meditation called Vipassana, where he learned the importance of being in the moment. The Strange Crew was out at Friends of Serpent Mound's Summer Solstice Celebration a few weeks back and recorded their first podcast in front of a live audience. Once again Jeffrey Wilson blew our minds in this episode, focused on the Serpent Mound Crop Circle, which his now wife Delsey found in 2003. Jeffrey has been researching Crop Circles since the 1990's, which brought him to Serpent Mound when he received a call from Delsey to investigate this incredible phenomenon. Josh has been exploring and researching the forgotten ceremonial stone landscapes of Vermont for the last 3 years and sharing what he has learned and found. Josh shares some incredible photos from his trips to the remote areas with us, a poses the question. Were the ancient Native Americans building miles and miles of stone walls and structures up and down New England and Pennsylvania? Were ancient Americans designing and building advanced temple complexes, cairns and stone chambers that align to the movement of the heavenly bodies? A Survey from the 1840s estimated there to be 240,000 miles of stone walls! The builders incorporate the walls into the landscape and seem to flow with it. Would colonial settlers be hiking up into the remote areas away from good farm land to build these long strange structures for there sheep pens? Josh suggests that maybe they were ancient fire breaks used to cultivate and work with the land instead of conquering and owning the land. This subject is heavily debated and controversial. In this episode my boy Eric Rollin and I sit down to chat about his company Works of Freedom Ohio and the work they are doing to help inspire the youth through music in the Columbus, Oh area. We are in strange times with the Covid-19 shutdowns and protests spreading across the country in response to the killing of George Floyd. Eric has a great perspective about what is currently happening to black communities all across America. I’ve had some pretty deep and intense experiences with Eric and respect his words. I appreciate his honesty when talking about these difficult topics. Works of Freedom Ohio: Eric Rollin Rollin is a professional singer/songwriter, educator, mentor and audio engineer. He is the founder of the Columbus Chicken and Beer Festival, co-founder and singer/songwriter for the national band Mistar Anderson, and founder of the local music initiative "The Break" (longest running freestyle hip-hop open-mic night in Columbus, Ohio). He is also a member and/or advocate of various non-profit organizations dedicated to community music development. Mr. Rollin, former music instructor at Hanna Aston Middle School with mentor Jim Shaw, founder of Columbus Songwriting Workshop. He currently serves as the songwriting instructor at Franklinton High School. We are also measuring changes in related variables such as safety and tolerability, subjective effects, personality traits, pain perception and sleep. He's currently spending six months as an exchange Ph.D. student in Maastricht University in the Netherlands, where we are investigating changes in sleep quality after ayahuasca use in naturalistic settings. Jeff offered some clarity with the controversy surrounding Graham Hancock's hit Netflix series Ancient Apocalypse and the owners and operators of Serpent Mound, Ohio History Connection. Was Graham and his crew banned from the site? Well who better to ask than our buddy Jeff. He was featured in Ancient Apocalypse | Ep 06 - America's Lost Civilization. Jeff was interviewed by the crew about how important this site was to America's lost history. Pt 1 | Ancient Apocalypse and Serpent Mound: Jeffrey Wilson A video surfaced from Soul of Jaret's YouTube page, right before shooting this episode where a woman working the front gate was asked about the Graham Hancock ban. Her answer was interesting and it seems to contradict the time span of dates for filming among other details. BIO: Jeffrey currently serves as President of the Friends of Serpent Mound, a registered 501c3 non-profit organization advocating for Serpent Mound. Wilson been a guest on various national and local TV networks, as well as national and local radio programs including National Geographic International, Coast to Coast A.M. with George Noory, and most recently on the worldwide hit show Ancient Apocalypse. Wilson received a Master's Degree in General Science from Eastern Michigan University located in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where he taught both Physics and Astronomy classes, and helped operate and maintain Sherzer Observatory on a volunteer basis. On this episode of The Strange Road, Mikey and Bub sat down with Salt Fork State Park Naturalist and Educator, John Hickenbottom! John works for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) and has gained notoriety for being Ohio's Bigfoot Naturalist. He puts on many events and hikes educating people on the environment, animals, plants and yes bigfoot. Specifically, Ohio reptiles and amphibians are his primary passions. John makes it very clear. He is not a Bigfoot researcher, but is a Bigfoot educator. John has been a contributor at the Salt Fork Bigfoot Conference for many years. At first John didn't take the subject of Bigfoot seriously. Then the years of eyewitness stories began to build up from visitors to the park and John became open to the idea that maybe there was some hidden creatures in the South Eastern forests of Ohio. We chopped it up about bears and larger predators in Ohio, which leads John to believe that the forests of Ohio can support a large bi-pedal primates. He just doesn't know what the phenomenon is, but has an open minded scientific approach to his work. John is still searching for answers when it comes to the elusive hide and go seek champ, The Ohio Grassman. We took a little time on archives.org looking into the latest release of The JFK Files, which is a document dump going back to the JFK Act from 1992 that required many 3 letter agencies to release their white papers concerning the JFK Assassination. Those 3 letter agencies are continuing to withhold 3% of the documents, which some think is a treasure trove of data that links Lee Harvey Oswald and others to clandestine CIA operations leading up to the assassination. We feel for the 1400 people that had to be evacuated from the ancient city of Petra due to a massive flood. We also cover some jack ass sneaking into a historic site and defacing a majestic petroglyph wall. It sickens me to think someone could have that sad of a life or be bored enough to do something like that. Heather's quest to provide historically accurate tours for her clients led her down a path of research shrouded in mystery.
