On this week’s episode of The Sewcial Hour Podcast your hosts, Ashley & Bethany, chat with Catherine who you can follow on Instagram at @bringingsewingback where she shares her passion for all things sewing. On this week’s episode of The Sewcial Hour Podcast your hosts, Ashley & Bethany, chat with Catherine who you can follow on Instagram at @bringingsewingback where she shares her passion for all things sewing. Catherine is a Kentucky gal who discovered a passion for sewing back in 2014. Her husband was in the first year of his 4-year long residency program in North Carolina, when she decided she needed a hobby. Christmas was just around the corner, so she asked her mom for a sewing machine. She swears it was love at first stitch! In the wee hours of the night, you could find her whipping up one-of-a-kind purses, pillows, baby toys, ect. She was having so much fun! But, the thought of sewing clothing intimidated her. It wasn’t until January of 2019, after the birth of her second child that she started focusing on creating her own wardrobe. What began as a knack for refashioning garments from Goodwill, quickly turned into self- drafting her own patterns and sharing her sewing journey with others on Instagram. (@bringingsewingback). She has gone on to join the Styla Patterns designer team, been filmed on multiple local news segments, and become a brand ambassador for Olga’s Closet fabrics. While her Instagram page has allowed her many collaborations and opportunities, she is MOST fulfilled by teaching and educating on the platform. Her passion is to bring the lost art of sewing back to the modern woman. Because, it’s just SEW much fun! Emma’s Bio: I live in Camberley, Surrey (about an hour south west of London, England) with my two girls and husband. All my life I have been creative, I can't remember when I wasn't - whether i was pretending to be a blue peter presenter or scavenging the toilet rolls to make something! As a career I went to London College of Fashion and then I was a creature costume maker in film and tv since 2002. I have helped to create iconic costumes such as The Batsuit, Iggle Piggle, The Flash and probably most people's favorite; Chewbacca. In 2020 I finally started a youtube channel after procrastinating for about 5 years before that! Then in late 2021 I bought out my first pattern; the dinosaur pencil case. In March 2022 I started The 7t7 Club, a fun, community based membership for bag makers and now I am full time in Studio 7t7. 07 Mar 2023 | Episode 26: Duana Chandler Sewing & Patterns | 00:59:43
My name is Duana Chandler. I am a wife and mom of a beautiful girl named Blaire. I am a Chemistry teacher, but sewing has been a major part of my life since I became a teacher. I learned how to sew in 2015, but stopped sewing soon after getting married. In 2018, I had my daughter. She was a major part of the reason that I started sewing again. She was born a micro preemie and was too small for the standard size preemie clothes, so I began to sew her clothes that fit. That reignited my passion for sewing. In 2019, I discovered an entire sewing community on social media and made a lot of new friendships. In 2020, I started learning about pattern design through online videos and through that, I released my first pattern. I have since released a total of 4 indie patterns on my Etsy shop. In 2022, I became a Know Me Pattern Designer under Mimi G and have since released two patterns. I have enjoyed the process. I have learned so much and I am continuing to learn and grow more as I go. 04 Apr 2023 | Episode 30: Needle & The Belle | 01:24:36
My mom gifted me my first sewing machine at 13 along with 1 set of sewing lessons that I took with my neighbor. We made these super lame drawstring bags and I was over sewing before I’d really given it a chance. When I was in my first marriage, I think my mom saw that it was getting ready to end so she gifted me with yet another sewing machine so that I could have a hobby that was just mine. As a plus size woman struggling with finding clothes that I loved, I was ready to rock this sewing thing out–until I saw the directions for what was supposed to be a simple dress. Simple, not. I struggled to dress but was determined to teach myself how to sew. This was before YouTube University was really big so I bought some books to teach me the sewing jargon I needed and set out to learn. But then I filed for divorce, ended up pregnant and obviously distracted. While pregnant with my 2nd daughter, I broke out my sewing machine and I was determined to upcycle clothes to create a maternity wardrobe. I mean, if I couldn’t figure out how to make them from scratch the least I could do was take someone else’s starting point, right? From there I’ve grown to sewing 90% of my wardrobe along with my 3 kids and husband. Follow Aaronica here:

Erbaccia is a size-inclusive pattern company and school of patternmaking named for the Italian word for weed. It's about the scrappiness and tenacity that it takes to thrive wherever we find ourselves planted and about the instinctual need that some of us have for DIY-ing beautiful things into this world. Erbaccia offers a growing collection of digital patterns for sizes up to 66" hip (though we'll gladly grade beyond that on request), and a comprehensive online course called Confident Pattern making and Grading where you can learn to digitally draft and grade professional sewing patterns for bodies of every size. Victoria will be reopening enrollment for her pattern making course in January 2024. Join her email list to be first to hear when doors re-open. 11 Jul 2023 | Episode 44: Ellie & Mac Patterns | 01:06:49
Introducing our latest podcast episode! Join us as we chat with Lindsey, the owner of Ellie and Mac Pattern Company. Lindsey has made a mark in the indie sewing pattern community with her size-inclusive designs for newborns, children, women, and men. This conversation is not to be missed! Along the way, I realized that I had something special about putting fabrics together, and I loved the adorable creations I was making. I began selling clothing online with the encouragement of family and friends. I learned new and better ways to make them each day and continued to grow my business. Ten years later, having a successful business, I wanted to give back. I decided to offer sewing patterns for the dresses I sold in my boutique for those who couldn't afford them. Keeping patterns affordable for everyone is a huge passion and the inspiration for my weekly sale. I wanted to give back to where it all began for me. From there, I was hooked. Designing sewing patterns was so fun, and I found that the more I worked at learning how to draft patterns, the better I became at it. I have been designing patterns since 2012, and there is nothing I love more. 01 Aug 2023 | Episode 47: Handmade by Elizabeth | 01:08:47
Elizabeth is a life-long crafter and creator. She got “hooked” on the fiber arts when her grandmother taught her how to crochet at age 8. She later learned how to sew from her mother and even designed some of her own dress patterns as a teenager. After college and law school, Elizabeth turned her attention to cake and cookie decorating but since becoming a mom, she has returned to sewing because sewing projects won’t expire if you need a long break to tend to the kiddos. Today, Elizabeth is a full-time litigation attorney and when she’s not tangled up in the courtroom, she’s spending time with her husband and high school sweetheart, Baudelio, and their two children Daniella and Ezra. A natural night owl, Elizabeth makes time for her sewing addiction passion after the kids are tucked in and often sews her projects from start to finish live on TikTok. Her main focus is bag making but she loves to sew up outfits for herself and her entire family. Elizabeth is especially fond of using any occasion as an excuse to whip up a custom bag and coordinating outfits and accessories. Elizabeth and her family live in the western suburbs of Chicago with their 13-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, Sherlock. IG: @Lws_lynnwardrobesews I am Alex, a Los Angeles based fashion designer with a background in tailoring and garment manufacturing. I studied fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and tailoring in Italy. I took the expertise I gained in both these places back to Los Angeles where I opened a small but very productive garment factory. I continued to create custom suits while expanding my experience in manufacturing as I took opportunities to manage factories in El Paso and Las Vegas. In 2022, I came together with Lynn Brannelly to create costumes for Cirque Du Soleil and later joined forces to tailor for Runway of Dreams, a runway show for people with disabilities to showcase adaptive fashion. We loved the idea of adaptive fashion and decided to fill a need opening the first Adaptive tailoring and alteration shop ever in Pasadena, California.
