Send us a text! (Your number stays private)

As a TPT seller, do you feel like you have to do all the things in order to keep your sales up? The need to constantly crank out content on Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest is overwhelming to say the least. I used to feel like that too. I thought it was the only way that I had a chance at scaling my business, and it ultimately led to feelings of burn out and resentment towards my business.

But then something shifted. I started looking at my data and found that most of my sales were coming from TPT search. Hello passive income! I realized that the key to more passive income was determining where my products ranked in search.

Now that I know how to look at my data, and leverage SEO, my sales have skyrocketed...even without creating tons of new products. Are you ready to hear my favorite SEO tips so that you can learn how to do the same?

  • 2:50 What search engine optimization really is & which two search engines to focus on as TPT sellers
  • 3:33 My top 3 SEO tips for TPT sellers
  • 5:55 How to search for the right keyword in TPT
  • 7:30 One big mistake I see TPT sellers make

12 Jul 20223. Your About Page is Not About You00:15:31

Send us a text! (Your number stays private)

If you have a website for your teacher seller business, then you likely have an about page. The big question is, are you using that page in the most effective way? See, lots of people make their about page all about them, but the reality is that your about page is not actually about you!

If this sounds backwards, I totally get it. It's an "about page", so why wouldn't it be about you? Well, because it's actually about the why and how that you're helping the person who is reading the about page.

Your about page is valuable real estate on your website because it's yet another place that people can go to find out if you know what you're talking and whether or not they can trust you. Don't worry, there's still a time and place to share some relatable personal information about yourself on this page as well!

In this episode, I'm giving you my 5-part framework that you can use as a template to build an effective about page. If you're a TPT seller and you don't have a website yet, you'll want this framework as well because this information also applies to the "my profile" tab in your TPT store!

After listening, go take a look at your about page, determine which pieces of the framework you have in place, and add the parts that you’re missing. This one step can make a big difference!

0:50 2 main mistakes that TPT sellers make when it comes to their about page

2:58 The true purpose of your about page

4:00 My 5 part framework for an effective about page

8:50 The one thing people forget to do at the end of their about page

Send us a text! (Your number stays private)

Do you use the TPT note to followers? Like so many other teacher sellers, maybe you feel like there’s no point because it seems like no one opens them anyway.

I used to think the same thing. However, I’ve started using it more consistently and I’m happy to report that it’s paying off in my store! The results aren’t always immediate, but they are there. Not only is it leading to more product sales, but also to new subscribers on my email list.

If you’re wondering how I’ve gotten these results, and how I track the ROI of TPT note to followers, then stick around. I’m filling you in on what works…from how often to send your TPT note to followers, to what you should avoid sending in your notes to followers, and more.

Don’t forget to take what you learn and apply it to your TPT store. If what you try doesn’t convert the first time, then tweak your process and try again until you find what works best with your specific audience.

00:50 Why you may have so many unread note to followers

3:30 What you should (and shouldn’t) be sending to your followers

7:00 Exactly how I know that the TPT note to followers is an effective marketing strategy for my business (and how you can too!)

Jarrett Vaucher is on the show to chat about why TPT data is so incredibly important for growth in your business. When you get into the habit of being intentional about tracking your data, it will allow you to make data-driven decisions that will really move the needle in your business over time. If you are someone who doesn’t pay much attention to your numbers, I think this episode will convince you to start. The truth is, without looking at your TPT data, you have no solid understanding of what’s working in your store and what’s not.

Whether you already track your TPT data closely and consistently or not, you'll walk away with something new to try. Jarrett offers so much helpful advice on the reasoning behind collecting your TPT data, which data you should even be looking at, what to do after gathering data, and his best tips for low traffic sellers. Installing the right plugins is crucial, and there’s a few must-have plugins I believe every site should have. Tune in to hear my top 5 must-have WordPress plugins for every site.

06 Sep 202211. How to Deal with Search Algorithm Changes00:15:05

Send us a text! (Your number stays private)

You’ve heard me talk again and again about the importance of SEO, and for good reason! A solid SEO strategy can boost you to the top of search results for your resources and products whether you’re on Google, TPT, Amazon, Etsy, or YouTube. The key is understanding the search algorithm for the platform you’re on.

Frustration often occurs when algorithm changes pop up, which has been happening a lot this year on both Google and TPT. As TPT sellers, I know a lot of you are worried about how these changes could affect your business.

With Google and TPT both being the leaders in their industries it’s good to be in the know, so that you can make any necessary tweaks. Thankfully you’ve got SEO nerds like me to help you navigate these algorithm changes! 🤣

In this episode of The Savvy Teacher Seller, I’m diving into why platforms make algorithm changes, what “black hat SEO” is, how you can always make the best experience for your customers and readers by using proven SEO practices, and how to bounce back from negative results of search algorithm changes.

1:01 The true purpose of a search engine, whether it’s Google or TPT

3:46 Why search algorithms change, and how we know an algorithm is changing

4:54 How you can keep algorithm changes from affecting your business too much

13 Sep 202212. 5 Ways to Increase Your TPT Conversion Rate00:14:55

Send us a text! (Your number stays private)

If you know me then you know that I could talk about SEO, and how to leverage it for your business, all day long. However, there’s something else that teacher sellers like you really need to be doing in order to maximize your results and boost your sales. Can you guess what it is?

It’s optimizing your product listings for better TPT conversion rates!

You see, SEO will bring traffic to your product listings, but that alone won’t increase your sales. We need to actually convert those browsers into customers.

It comes down to this simple (but super important) equation: Page Views x Conversion Rate x Price = Your Sales. This is why SEO and optimizing your product listings work hand in hand.

So, if you're unsure if you have products that need to be updated for a better TPT conversion rate, where do you start? First, you need to take your emotion out of the equation and look at the product objectively. Then, answer the five questions that I'm sharing in this episode in order to determine whether or not a product needs to be updated. Once you answer these questions, you will have a plan for making your updates so that you can increase your TPT conversion rate as soon as possible.

1:26 The 3 factors you need to look at if you want to increase your sales

2:08 What the average TPT conversation rate is

3:25 5 questions you can ask yourself when it comes to looking at your products to decide which things need to be updated

7:12 Which should you work on first: product listing optimization or SEO optimization?

20 Sep 202213. From Accidental Entrepreneur to Growing Intentionally with Caroline St. Amour00:28:32

Send us a text! (Your number stays private)

TPT sellers, raise your hand if you’ve ever referred to yourself as an "accidental entrepreneur". So many of us can relate to this phrase because most of us didn’t start our TPT stores thinking it would turn into a real business that brings in consistent income.

Maybe you started out because you were a customer on TPT and realized, hey, I can do this! So you decided to start creating resources that would help teachers and students while also making a little extra money to pay for your Starbucks. The next thing you know, you have hundreds of resources in your store, and a legitimate business on your hands.

Our guest today, Caroline St. Amour, is a fellow accidental entrepreneur. She started her TPT store after realizing that there were absolutely no resources for French teachers. When Caroline first opened her store about ten years ago, things were a lot different. With the teacher seller space being much less crowded than it is now, resources sold without needing to worry about things like detailed descriptions, well-designed covers, and pdf previews.

As time went on, Caroline realized that she needed to make some intentional changes in order to grow her business. She took my Profit Booster Bootcamp and learned about how important it was to optimize her product listings. Once she took what she learned and applied it, her views and conversions skyrocketed.

If you want to learn more about my next round of the Profit Booster Bootcamp, where you can learn to get results like Caroline did, you can get all the details here.

3:05 How Caroline first found accidental success with her TPT store

8:35 What Caroline has realized that she should have been doing all along in her TPT store.

27 Sep 202214. Selling on TPT Without Social Media00:25:48

Send us a text! (Your number stays private)

Where are my introverted teacher sellers? I know there’s many of you out there, and as a result, you may find social media to be extremely draining.

It can be a lot of pressure to run a business that relies on sales, and selling on TPT is no exception. We tend to feel like we have to be cranking out content 24/7 on Instagram in order to bring in new customers. While creating reels, and showing up on Instagram stories every single day may be something that you love, for many sellers it’s quite the opposite.

There’s hope out there for all of us, though! Today I’m talking to someone who has cracked the code on how to be successful at selling on TPT without using social media as a marketing tool. She’s an introvert who has learned to put her energy towards parts of her business that are within her control and that consistently brings in new sales.

Pav took my online course, SEO for Teacher Authors, in 2020. She began putting these SEO strategies in place on her blog and inside her TPT store. Pav is sharing the results she has experienced since making these changes, and how she is now successfully selling on TPT without the pressure of Instagram!

3:10 Pav’s initial experience with pushing her limits on Instagram vs. how she uses it now

7:35 How Pav is driving people to her store (no social media required!)

10:50 Pav shares her results with working intentionally on improving her SEO

17:27 A reminder to focus on what you can control in order to get the best ROI when you’re selling on TPT

Your identity goes beyond being a TPT seller. You are teachers, spouses, parents, siblings, and friends. Balancing all of these roles in addition to being a business owner can feel like an impossible task. One thing is for sure. Time is not something that you seem to have an abundance of!

The things that you choose to spend your limited time on is what can make all the difference in your business growth. When it comes to increasing sales in your TPT store, the key is getting more of the right eyes on your resources. The key to doing that even when you’re short on time? Search engine optimization.

She made a promise to herself that she would only put her precious time and energy towards implementing marketing strategies that will have long-term value…and she found just that with SEO.

Jessica saw results quickly after taking my course, SEO for Teacher Authors. Her blog has grown significantly, and as a result, more traffic is coming to her TPT store. Jessica shares all the details about exactly how she is using SEO to drive traffic to her blog and store. Send us a text! (Your number stays private)

There are lots of effective ways to build your email list, but what’s the best way for you? Two of the top list-building methods are to use a free resource library or to create an individual opt in.

If you’re wondering which of the two you should go with, the truth is, there are pros and cons to each of these strategies! You are the only one who can decide which fits your business needs the best. 🙌🏼

While I can’t choose for you, I’m here to guide you through the decision making process. In part two of our email marketing series, I’m sharing the pluses and minuses of a free resource library and individual free opt ins.

Regardless of which road you take, they both lead to the same destination…more email subscribers. Once you have people on your email list, you’ll be able to nurture them, support them, and gain their trust - which can ultimately lead to more sales.

22 Nov 202222. Choosing the Best Opt In Freebie for Email List Building [Email Series]00:14:46

Send us a text! (Your number stays private)

The last couple of episodes have been a part of a special email marketing series, and today marks the third and final episode in this series!

In case you missed the first two, episode 20 was all about making the most of your email marketing, and episode 21 focused on the difference between a free resource library and individual opt-ins. By now we know the why of email marketing, and the importance of email list building, so let’s dive a little deeper into the how

Inside the finale of this email marketing series, I’m answering a question that I know is a popular one in the TPT seller community - How do you go about choosing the right opt in freebie?

Creating the right opt in freebie takes a lot of thought and consideration. For example, you don’t want to create a generic opt-in that almost anyone could use. Instead, you want to create one that will attract your ideal customers. This is a big mistake I’ve made in the past (among others!).

Luckily, I’ve made these mistakes so that you don’t have to. I’m sharing my best tips for how to choose an opt-in freebie that attracts your ideal email subscribers, and ideally, future customers!

1:05 The difference between primary opt ins vs. secondary opt ins

2:25 Three mistakes that I’ve made during the stages of my email list building

6:02 The importance of making your opt in freebies relevant to your primary niche

6:35 Why limiting who your freebie is for will be better for your email list in the long run

Send us a text! (Your number stays private)

Today's episode is part three in our "selling on your site" podcast series. In episode 23, I shared what to consider before taking the leap in opening your website store. Then, in episode 24, Katherine Tucker joined me for a discussion all about the ins and outs of sales tax for teacher sellers.

Now that you know about starting your website store, and how to handle sales tax, let's move on to the next big question of, How do you create an amazing customer experience in your website store?

When selling on your own site, one of the most important things to consider is how you can be sure that customers feel comfortable purchasing from you. When you have a website store, you don't have the reputation of a well-known marketplace that buyers already know and trust. You're asking people to get out their credit cards, so let's do everything possible to set up your site in a way that makes browsers confident about hitting that purchase button.

2:57 What you can do to make the browsing and searching experience incredible for your buyer when they arrive on your site

5:04 The importance of making it super easy for a buyer to find their cart, and having a crystal clear checkout page

9:40 Two things that buyers need after purchasing, and how to achieve this easily

It's so important to ensure that your store is cohesive, true to you, and representative of what you want to be known for. Erin is looking at these things and more during this store audit. Her and Jennifer talk about decisions that go into updating products, how elements such as colors and fonts can make a big impact on listings, and how to attract the right-fit buyers.
