25 Apr 2022AK40Devin - Pizza Shop Manager to Rapper, Director and Headliner01:26:46

AK40Devin is a rapper, videographer, and director from Rockland County, New York. I met him while shooting a music video, and had no idea he had been rapping, writing, and releasing music for over 6 years.

I went through his discography to discover songs about his childhood, his brothers, his inspirations, and his son who is now 4 years old.

Today we uncover the massive shift in his life, and how a small loan from a coworker at a pizza shop launched his career in videography and directing.

20 Jun 2022Young Benny [1 Yr. Later] - Dedicating Your Life to the Craft, Writing Bangers, and Separating Friends from Business01:51:51

Young Benny is a rapper, songwriter, lyricist, and performer. He's dedicated his life to the craft, and it's tough to remove his hard-hitting and effortless hooks from your head after only one listen. On stage, he carries a swagger that comes with years, but for Benny, it seems ingrained: natural.

In this episode, we dive into Benny's aspirations as an artist, his decision to remain dedicated and seek even larger goals, and his falling out with team members that left him questioning who was (and still is) by his side. As artists know, music is cut-throat. It's easy to get caught up in the present to forego future success. We dive into the details today, and I share my own experience working with my team for the last 2 years.

20 Nov 2023How We Get 200 Followers In a Day on LinkedIn | Exact Steps Revealed00:10:38

When it comes to "ways to get followers," commenting is #1 on LinkedIn. Unlike TikTok and YouTube, LinkedIn does not reward users for posting, they reward users for "engaging" with other creators and commenting on their posts.

It turns out, you can

a) make the algorithm happy

b) get your posts seen and

c) turn your comments into a follower-generating machine on LinkedIn by making a few tweaks.

Today we go into the exact steps to get started.

08 Mar 2021Gaining 40k+ fans, Building Confidence as an Artist, and a Run in With the FBI with Samad Savage01:19:44
"Life is hard as shit, but man. You're either going to sit there and take the fucking punches, or fight back."

- "Goodnight" by Samad Savage

Samad Savage is one of those artists that just has 'it'. The it-factor that only some people have, and you can't put your finger on why.

I first met him at a Mad Minds Artist Showcase event last year, and his energy was palpable on and off the stage. When I spoke to him for the first time he had no idea who I was, and he still treated me with the most respect. I reached out later in the year to do the podcast and he was immediately down.

Samad is one of New Jersey's biggest artists with 40k+ fans and now, his track "Goodnight" has garnered millions of plays online along with his full length albums. They say a song is not great without an incredible performance and man, does Samad put on one hellavu' show!

On my podcast we spoke about his childhood, and how it influenced his songwriting, his experiences with police, and his willingness to be open about his religion. I could not have been happier with how this episode turned out.

PS: when things open up, you HAVE to see him live.

29 Mar 2021Creating A Business in College, Choosing Wants from Needs, and How to Network to Build Relationships with Stefano Selorio01:08:48

Stefano Selorio messaged me on Instagram 2 years ago to tell me he found my podcast, and to let me know he appreciated and enjoyed the content I was putting out. I had never received a messge like that from a stranger, so I was thrilled. Fast forward 2 years later and Stefano is somebody I talk to on a weekly, almost daily basis and over the last year we've forged a friendship around life, entrepreneurship and building a business.

We often have hour long, wide ranging conversations so we thought it would be valuable to record one, and upload it as an official BopCast.

Stefano is the founder and CEO of Carevocacy, helping seniors learn and use technology in the modern world. He's a soon-to-be college grad, and in this episode we cover how our businesses started in college, challenges that come with having too many passions, wants versus needs, how you can be up front with yourself about them, and finally how you can use email to target your prospective clients or co-workers.

12 Jul 2021Comment Hacking, Untraditional Marketing, and Launching a Podcast about Mindset with Harrison Kelly01:40:01

As you know, many great friendships start with a LinkedIn direct message. Harrison Kelly connected with me on LinkedIn in March 2020 and since then I've had the privilege to help him launch his podcast, "The Innovative Mindset" which has garnered more audio plays than any podcast I've been a part of.

Harrison is an SEO and Content marketing consultant at Clean Media by day full-time, and also the social media director for TailHand: a new workbench for contractors. Clean Media is owned and operated by the director of SEO at Audible, AJ Mihalic who's been in marketing for over 10 years. These pursuits along with Harrison's podcast fuel his drive to learn more about people, and also allow him to use his marketing mind to take projects to the next level.

We had a wide-ranging conversation today about how Google's algorithm works, how to comment on posts to get hundreds of thousands of people to view your profile, and how our generation might end overworking.

It’s the podcast that most new creators want to emulate: The Joe Rogan Experience.

And as a fan myself, I don’t blame them. However, substituting your original, unique concept for someone else’s is rarely the path to success.

While we can take valuable insights through examining massively successful podcasts, we need to be careful that it doesn’t spoil your own creative journey.

This week’s episode highlights a portion of my conversation with Oana Leonte on this exact topic in podcast strategy.

26 Jul 2021"The Real Johnny Bravo," Kurt Heeren on Gaining 100k on TikTok, Moving to Cali., Finding a Job You Love out of College and Personal Training01:29:11

Remember the show Johnny Bravo? I think back to watching cartoons as a kid, and hearing his classic catchphrases while the self-proclaimed macho man attempted to court every lady he laid eyes on. Lucky enough for me, a long-time friend of mine is the internet-proclaimed, "Real Johnny Bravo."

Kurt Heeren is a fitness trainer at F45 Training, an Accounts Receivable expert at EXOS, and most importantly: he's the Real-Life Johnny Bravo. He's garnered over 100,000 followers on TikTok in less than 6 months. After a friend filmed him at a Halloween party as Johnny Bravo, the video went viral on TikTok and Kurt began to realize that his small time in the spotlight could lead to some big things.

In this episode we talk about:

  • Leaving New Jersey to move to California
  • How being mislead turned his Cali. move into shit-show the first hour he was there
  • Personal training, and what it's like taking a group fitness class vs. 1-on-1
  • Finding and loving a 9-5 while persuing dreams on the side
  • How his Halloween costume turned into a viral sensation overnight
  • His TikTok philosophy, and where he's taking his persona next

I enjoyed sitting down with Kurt on this episode, catching up after all of these years and hearing his rise to TikTok fame. Thanks for listening!

22 Aug 2022Bobby Doc - Dissing Our Diss Tracks, Opening for Juice WRLD, Country Rap and B.Y.O. Sound Board01:55:55

We have a lot of rappers on the show, but after talking with 50+, I’ve found that most artists are even more dynamic than their art. Today I sat down with Bobby Doc, who is pursuing a career in music in an attempts to change the game for those that come after him; and that’s only one of his goals.

Hiphop is competitive. At times it’s detrimental to the artist, and at others, it’s the reason they succeed. Regardless, I know we can all benefit from more support coming from those that are a bit further down the line.

Bobby and I dive into how we can take notes from comedy and comedians in general, and as always on BopCast, we work our way around. Use the timestamps below to navigate, or take the plunge with us for the whole conversation.

(17:41) - Is hiphop being competitive a bad thing? Why hiphop should learn from comedy. Is T.I. good at comedy?

23 Aug 2021The Manifesting Musician - Country Soul Singer, Amanda Sikoral on Songwriting, Performing, Growing on TikTok and A Live Performance on BopCast00:56:06

Amanda Sikoral is a musician that blends singer-songwriter, country and soul into a melodic fusion of hooks, and lyrics that you won't forget. She even performed the chorus for her newest single, "Home," at the end of the podcast. On top of her own music, she's been branded "The Manifesting Musician," for good reason. Her positive, daily TikTok mantras have garnered hundreds of thousands of views, and over 9000 followers on the platforms. She blends songwriting with short, positive affirmations and was pushed to make an entire song out of one after hundreds of people requested it.

I loved our conversation about music, growing as an artist, social media, and more. One thing I've realized while doing this is that meeting in person is mattering less and less. I've had countless guests come to my house to record after only a phone call or folks like Amanda who I met on IG, and then hopped on Zoom to record.

In this episode we cover:

  • Amanda's willingness to take her music to the next level after 15 years of practice.
  • Blending country and soul while being from New Jersey.
  • Influences growing up, and how that shaped her sound today.
  • Producing from scratch, and how she learned to improve.
  • Her rise to TikTok fame as the "Manifesting Musician."
  • How she created positive mantras that allowed her to grow on the platform, and gain thousands of fans using her sounds daily.
  • Live performances, and how one chance encounter lead to her first one.
  • Amanda's aspirations and the future of her music.

We hope you enjoyed the show!

06 Sep 2021Gabbi Truppi - Founding an Ice Cream Shop at 22, the State of Small Business in Flemington, NJ and the Biggest Lesson You Need to Learn00:45:12

This is a special episode, being that it's our first on-location BopCast ever. We traveled to Flemington, NJ to interview Gabbi for the second time. Gabbi Truppi is an outlier. She's a young entrepreneur who is pursuing her dreams regardless of the status quo. She embodies the risk-taking, fast-moving characteristics of a young and hungry business owner. I interviewed her for the first time when she was 20 years old and had just launched her ice cream truck, Scoops on Wheels. Now at 22 years old, she founded, Humdoo Ice Cream which is the basis of our interview today.

After the engine broke down on her infamous truck with countless events booked for her to appear at, she took it as a sign to grow and move forward. Already in the works was her physical location, "Humdoo Ice Cream," on Stangl Road in Flemington, NJ.

In this episode, we cover what it's like to launch 2 businesses as a young, female entrepreneur, the difference between an ice cream truck and an ice cream shop, and the biggest lesson she's learned by launching this new business. We also spoke about Gabbi's philosophy around ice cream, the meaning of the word Humdoo, and more.

I had a blast recording this episode in her shop and hope to do many more BopCasts on-location. If you know somebody who would be a great guest, email me at sullybmusic@gmail.com.

03 Oct 2022Alex Cortes - "My Leg was Amputated at 16." The Full Story on Purpose, Emotion and Ayahuasca02:21:26

It’s not often that you meet a traveling amputee-podcaster, and to be fair, those labels aren’t “Alex,” they’re simply a way to describe a complex person who has experienced the ups and downs of pain and realization to the highest extent. And yes, at the 20-minute mark Alex breaks down the graphic story of losing his leg at 16.

After a mutual friend connected me and Alex, I took an interest in his podcast; I saw a light in him that I saw in myself. He has the podcaster's trait: unwavering curiosity and flexes that muscle by traveling across the country interviewing people on his show, Spirit of a Nation.

Please enjoy this extended conversation on living with an amputation, an Ayahuasca journey, art, politics, and the like. If you’re new, thank you for stopping by.

Please use the timestamps below to navigate the episode.

19 Sep 2022[NEW SERIES] BopSolo - 4 Years of Side Hustle Cheat Codes, How to Guarantee Failure, Gen Z, Guitar Simulators and More of Your Questions!00:37:37

BopSolo is a new solo podcast series diving into listener-submitted questions and breaking down topics I have direct experience in. It’s also the format BopCast started with and one I’d be happy to officially bring back. Today I uncover how to start a side hustle and by that, I mean the 4 step process anybody can follow to launch their own.

Keep in mind that what I speak on today is from personal experience. I’m not guaranteeing results, trying to upsell you to a course, or convincing you to do this, rather I’m zooming out from the last few years, and giving you the after-the-fact playbook. Follow these steps with caution; the path is often unpaved and unknown.

The only thing I ask of you as a listener is to be included in BopCasts growth by sharing it with a friend and leaving feedback on the video, in a message or DM. That’s the only way I know if these are actually valuable.

A name that already looks and feels iconic. In my own words, it's clean and simple. Mathew Rosensweig, who operates under the pseudonym, ICEMADEIT is an original content producer, podcast producer, and creative artist. Matt is currently working with United Masters, a music distribution platform that exists specifically to help artists monetize and grow through advertisements and brand sponsorships. He’s produced, managed, and launched podcasts at United Masters, and has booked guests by the names of Russ and ASAP Ferg.

Today we dove into the mechanics behind Joe Rogan's success in podcasting, why the WWE isn't delivering the content people enjoy, why the modern record deal doesn't make sense and the real price of Matt’s VVS diamond grills.

16 Jan 2023For Everybody in Their 20's - The Sooner We Realize This, The Better00:14:46

Welcome back to yet another solo episode of BopCast!

Let’s be honest.. being in your 20s is a crazy experience, especially in the day and age that we live in. There is so much pressure to figure out so much! One day you’re a teen and then suddenly you’re vaulted into a completely foreign world as you try to figure out:

- Who you are

- What you’re going to do

- Where you’re going to live

- How you’re going to buy food, clothes, a car

- How you’re going to pay rent, survive

And so much more!

But most importantly, these are the years of our life that demand action, decision and change - they form who we are and in large part, where we end up.

Today, I tackle your 20s and break down what I think we all need to focus on and lean into as we struggle to make something of ourselves.

P.S. I’ve been enjoying doing some of these more single-topic based solo episodes lately - what are your thoughts on it? Do you like the change of pace? Are there any topics or current events that you would like me to address?

Let me know in the comments below!

09 Aug 2021Founder of Strange Living Collective - Nick Gates on Relentless Positivity, Getting Married at 23, How to Plan to Achieve Any Goal, and The Difference Between Purpose and Passion01:53:41

The last few episodes have been packed full of examples of how mindset and self-improvement can (and will) change your life. Personally, I have some pessimistic tendencies when things don't go my way, but in the last few years I've become much more positive. Contributing to that positivity in my life has been today's guest, Nick Gates - founder of Strange Living Collective, coach, and speaker.

Nick's relentless positivity has fueled what he calls, "The Beautiful Journey:" a 3-step process of self-discovery he developed as he set out to build a life surrounded by his dreams, purpose, and passion.

In today's episode we cover:

  • Relentless positivity and if it's possible to maintain positive through anything.
  • How his business, Strange Living Collective came to be and what he learned building it.
  • The Beautiful Journey: Nick's personal 3-stage process to find and live a fulfilled life.
  • Overcoming negative emotions, and how to use others to identify your flaws.
  • The power of coaching to build the life you want and identity blindspots.
  • The power of planning to achieve any goal, and how to start immediately.

This episode was completely different than my last two with Nick, but somehow even more mind-blowing and uplifting. I had the privilege to go through a simple exercise after the show that changed my perspective on my own life goals.

06 Jun 2022Decaf Black - Underground Rapper in the 90's on Recording with Cassette Tapes and Escaping the 9-5 for Music01:54:26

Decaf Black is an artist, rapper, director, and lyricist originally from Rockland County, New York. His jams are characterized by 90's-esque flows packed with hard-hitting lyrics about actual struggles, his family, his come-up, and more. His 20+ years in music have allowed him to leave his 9-5 job as a supervisor to pursue music full time, and lean into his creative expression; a level most artists will never get to.

In today's interview, Decaf details the ins and outs of making a name for himself in the 90's hip-hop scene from getting jumped at a show that was supped to be for him, to now fusing pyrotechnics into his self-directed music videos. Black serves as an inspiration for artists and dreamers alike and often credits his wife and kids for maintaining his motivation to pursue his passion for music.

12 Apr 2021Selling an Antique Slot Machine to Earn $3000, Dropping Out of College to Start a Business, and Moving to Tennessee on a Whim with Chris Miller01:17:50

Chris Miller is a modern renaissance man - doing what he wants, when he wants to do it. We've infamously categorized his decisions as, 'miller moves'.

After attending a vocational school during high school, his teacher gave him the 'in' to get into a state college, because his grades didn't make the cut. While in college, he skipped class to flip items on eBay and traveled home every weekend to sell antiques. After dropping out 2 years in, he worked for a contractor that taught him how not to run a company.

Chris used his experience from buying, selling, contracting and carpentry to start a carpentry business - Chris Miller Contracting. After some success with the business, as well as buying and selling, he is now moving from NJ to Nashville, TN to work on interior design builds, and see where his travels takes him.

We hope you enjoy listening to this wide ranging conversation as much we did recording it.

25 Oct 2021Turkish Royale - Creating a Community For Artists, by Artists, Being Great at a Job You Don't Love, and Bringing Back Independent Thinking02:11:23
"MadMinds was created as a platform for local artists like myself. I came up as a rapper, I was getting scammed by all these shows. I needed to create that space where people like me, and all my friend could come and perform their hearts out. We did that for 5 years straight, and 2 years of it was no job, no school, just MadMinds. I was living in the mind of a beast, I'm going to eat no matter what. People don't realize this is a dream - you can dream it lucid." - Turkish Royale on BopCast.

Artists have always surprised me on this show, and most of the time it's not because of their art itself. Turkish Royale is a rapper, artist, lyricist, business owner, and event connoisseur. He's been performing hiphop for over 8 years and launched the collective, MadMinds to build a space where artists could perform together.

Turk and I have a lot in common from our journies of personal growth, working in the car industry, being rappers, and sharing the mission of trying to get our music out there to the world. It's evident that his mind and his intentions are in the right place, and that's why he's been able to cultivate a fanbase and sell hundreds of tickets to his sold-out shows. Turk is the mastermind behind the MadMinds brand and vision, but it's really his selfless attitude and genuine care for other artists that have made his events so successful.

In this wide-ranging episode, we dive into the current state of media, social media, and the struggle to find conversations based on understanding and rational thought. We also cover how having a job and a work environment that doesn't align with your values can be detrimental to your mental health. On top of that, we discover the ups and downs of Turk's journey to build a platform for artists over the last 5 years and create a full-time job around it.

18 Oct 2021Julian Palermo - Racing Leased Cars, Financial Habits You Must Break in Your 20's, and How to Be a Phenom01:20:31
"You have your revenue-producing passions that you like, which are related to your passion-passion. It's a great place to be in. With [our brand] we said, what could we do? We could make some shirts. We wanted to be a lifestyle. The slogan was, ''be a phenom." Not just in the gym, but be the best in what you do. That's the lifestyle we wanted to embody." - Julian Palermo

Julian Palermo is a financial advisor, driver, and fitness enthusiast. Julian caught the car bug early on. Growing up, his father influenced him through his incessant love for racing, stock cars, and vehicles in general. As he got older he began to head to the track on the weekends with his own cars.

Along with his enthusiasm for cars, Julian was also interested in finance and entrepreneurship. After graduating college and realizing that working for a large company wasn't going to fuel him, he landed a job as a financial advisor so he could be his own boss, make his own hours, and help people.

In college, he and a friend founded, Phenom - a lifestyle and apparel brand centered around bodybuilding, powerlifting, and fitness. The brand has died down some in the last couple years, but the lessons he learned from it remain true.

In today's episode, we cover the pros and cons of leasing cars, how Julian leases cars to race on the track, what financial habits people should break immediately, the motivation behind a clothing brand, and the challenges with it amongst related topics.

15 Jul 2024The Secret to Criticism that 5x'd My Business00:11:53

Rome wasn’t built in a day – and neither was your brand or business. Guess what?

Your podcast or video content is no different.

Look, we’re all on this journey to establish more authority for our brand or business, to drive more leads and extend our influence further and further. The how? That’s the difficult part and something that I’m trying to figure out myself on my own content journey.

There were plenty of times I thought my podcast content made me look like the man, when it really didn’t.

I thought I was really standing out, but I wasn’t.

What changed?

I got a bit of feedback – well, some harsh criticism that sent me down a little path of self-reflection.

Criticism is crucial, lemme tell you why 👇

01 Jun 2021Host of Bowhunter Chronicles Adam Miller on Growing a Hunting Podcast, Conservation, Philosophy and Varying Styles of Bowhunting01:13:51

Adam Miller and I met on Facebook - the place where all great relationships start in the podcast world. I had asked him about some tech he was using to switch camera angles and it led me down a road of discovery starting with his podcast, Bowhunter Chronicles. After listening to a few episodes I knew I had to have him on.

Adam is a pharmacist by trade, but he and his co-host started Bowhunter Chronicles a few years ago as an outlet. They felt unrepresented in the hunting world and figured there needed to be a place to openly admit and speak about good and bad hunts as well as have the ability to talk with experts in the space. What started as a side project has now gained 10's of thousands of listeners, countless sponsors, a Patreon account and an intriguing weekly show to listen to whether you're a hunter or not.

On this episode we speak about the stigma that surrounds hunting, why hunting is conservation, the thing you should never overlook when starting, and how Adam grew the podcast from the ground up.

29 Aug 2022Gabby Braddock - How to Work 30 Hours Per Month and Never Work for Losers Again01:51:16

They say if you don’t do the business, the business will do you. But how do you actually ‘do’ the business side? We uncover more than a few tactics today.

It’s always exciting to step from one passion to another episode by episode. Today I got to sit down with an expert and scratch my business itch. Gabby Braddock is the owner of No Plan B Consulting, the Next Generation Network, and cofounder of The Vault Music Studio, in Boonton, NJ. She emits an aura of positivity and realism that is undeniable, and I was taken away by her articulation and self-awareness. I was so curious about this, that I had to ask her where it came from. Her father being an immigrant, encouraged hard work, but also instilled an unstoppable mindset from the age of 6. We dive into the pros and cons of this, and much more today on the show.

Thank you for watching and feel free to use the timestamps below to navigate through the episode!

20 Dec 2021Ahmed Al Kadri - Comedian and Content Creator on How to Start Writing Jokes, His Redemption on Kill Tony, and Working 9-5 while Pursuing Your Dreams01:04:13
"I've always wanted to be a comedian. When I graduated from high school I Googled, 'best degrees to get a job with' because there was no way in hell I could tell my parents, 'hey, I'm going to be a comedian'. One day after a show, all it took was one guy to [tell me] I'm really funny and I'm like ok, I'm going to move to Hollywood baby!" - Ahmed on his start in standup.

Ahmed Al-Kadri is a Yemeni-American stand-up comedian and content creator most known for witty TikTok's, comedic sketches, and his genuine connection to people. Whether he's making fun of himself, his religion, or his friends (like Perry Grone who we had on a few weeks back), you can find humor in almost everything he puts out online.

In this episode, we cover:

  • Why Ahmed pursued a regular job first instead of jumping into stand up full time
  • Haters, commenters, and how to understand people who don't get your content
  • 3 things to ask yourself to create your first joke for standup comedy
  • Selling out his first show and perfecting an hour of comedy
  • The difference between finding new music vs. new comedians
  • Ahmed's writing process, and coming up with new ideas

13 Dec 2021Jack Singleton - The Journey to Pro Bodybuilder, How to Build Muscle, and the problem with the Standard American Diet01:58:52
"It was a whole different era of social media when we were in high school. 16-year-olds now have so much more to look at and be confused by, and not understand why they can't look like that. A lot of people just want the easy, quick route and plus, your judgment is skewed. What you're trying to strive for isn't actually real, because it's an edited picture." - Jack Singleton on social media impacting youth in bodybuilding.

Jack Singleton is a competitive bodybuilder, nutrition expert, drug development student, and health fanatic. He's been competing in bodybuilding for 4 years and continues to compete to establish himself as a professional in the next 2 years or less.

In this episode you'll discover:

  • How Jack identified his love for bodybuilding and made it a priority
  • The misconceptions of steroids, especially among the youth
  • Fitness industry scams, and why you shouldn't buy into them
  • Problems with competitive bodybuilding, and why many competitors die early
  • The problems with the standard American diet
  • How hunger can control your life, and how to choose foods that are right for you

04 Oct 2021Tireek - Rapping from 13 Years Old, Bringing Creativity back to Music Video's, and a new Solo Album00:58:12
"From the moment I stepped on the stage to the moment I went off, people were giving me love. Doing that made me realize that I can do this. It gave me a newfound confidence. After that, the doubts left my head. At the end of the day I'm happy with myself and my art." - Tireek, on BopCast describing performing in front of 1000 people.

Tireek is a rapper, songwriter, artist, filmmaker, and creative individual. He's one of the most down-to-earth people we've had on the show, and it was incredible to hear his story.

We discuss his upbringing and his godfather bringing him to the studio at 13 years old. We get into songwriting, preparation, performing, and more on the podcast.

I connected with Tireek through his manager, Sam D'Yan. She put me onto both of her artists and being impressed with their music and content, I felt it was a great opportunity to have them on.

05 Jul 2021She Does it All - Combining Film and Analytics, Combatting and Overcoming OCD, Streaming on Twitch, and a Special Performance with Tuzz (Lauren Tuozzolo)01:24:49

I've known Tuzz for years now. We had mutual friends in high school and hit it off after celebrating the fact that everybody around us called us by some version of our last names. Tuzz's actual name is Lauren Tuozzolo and she also goes by "Lolascend" on her Twitch profile which has recently been gaining traction for her on-air personality and action-packed gameplay while streaming the game, "Apex Legends."

Fast forward 4 or 5 years after we became friends, and Lauren now has a full-time job at nCino - the world's leader in cloud banking. In this episode, she details what it took to get this job, and how combining her passion for film and her love for analytics led her to the exact dream job she was looking for. On top of her freelance film projects, full-time job, Twitch Streaming, and helping me with my web development for Podcast Principles, Lauren also has a love for music which she gave us a taste of on the podcast. Two live performances in a row on BopCast? I'm loving this!

I hope you enjoyed the episode as much as we did recording it!

30 Aug 2021Ron Solemn - 1 Million+ Plays on "Bodybags," Building the Right Team, and Staying True to Yourself as an Artist00:59:58

The artist's mind will never fail to fascinate me. If you create and release music, you're setting in motion an unknown chain of events. People can guess and assume, but at the end of the day, "the fans are always smarter than you," to paraphrase John Mayer (a quote I bring up way too much). That does not mean that the artist is not smart, it means that the artist never knows exactly how the world will interpret what they let it consume. Ron Solemn, for example, released his song, "Body Bags" in 2018 and it continues to receive 10's of thousands of plays as it climbs closer to 1 million on Spotify alone.

As Ron mentioned in the interview, "Body Bags" was one of a series of songs released in 2018, and he did not expect it to gain the traction that it did - something I find so interesting as I come across more examples of the market knowing what's good more often than the artist.

Ron Williamson is a rapper, singer, and songwriter releasing hiphop and RnB music with a focus on mental health. He's done this under the name Ron Solemn for the past 5 years.

In this podcast we cover:

  • Ron's transition from singing to rapping and songwriting, and how friends influenced him to rap.
  • Gaining confidence on stage by singing covers.
  • Songwriting, going by feel and creating a full song from an idea.
  • Marketing music, and remarketing released songs.
  • His song, "Bodybags" and how it went viral and gained almost 1M plays.
  • Using music to say what's on his mind.
  • And more...

Does it work?

28 Jun 2021A Rare Live Performance on BopCast - How to Bend Genres, Handle Opinions of Your Music and Get the Room Jumpin' with Lupe Dragon01:03:17

I met Lupe Dragon for the first time at a MadMinds artist open-mic. When I saw her, I assumed she was a singer. What I got wrong about her was the fact that she's also a rapper, songwriter, and most notably an incredible performer. Her energy is infectious and you can tell she is there only to pour her heart into her music; not to impress anybody in the audience or try to make you like what she creates.

Lupe has been releasing music since high school and she recalls some conversations on YikYak - an app for people to speak about others anonymously - where she read conflicting opinions on her sound. Since then, she has never let the opinions of others get in the way of her songwriting and you can tell by her raw and emotion-filled lyrics. Lupe emphasizes the part her influences played on her being able to open up in her music the way she does.

Thank you for tuning in, and I hope you enjoyed this one as much as I did recording it.

10 Jul 2023How I Make $5k/month From My Garage | Generating 10,000 Followers on LinkedIn, Working for a Scammer and More00:27:40

Is it possible to start an online business with 0 experience? If a mechanic can do it, you sure can too. Back in 2020, I quit my job to edit audio. I wasn't an expert, but I had the confidence to start, and that small leap brought me to a career in my dream industry; media and podcasting.

The reality is, most companies can't even deliver their core offer, so if you can provide the service you claim to provide, you can start a successful business.

Today I share my story from $200 per month to $5000+ per month. This is a digital deep dive into online entrepreneurship, LinkedIn content creation, audience growth, and much more.

Enjoy!

29 Jul 2024Do I Need a Social Media Manager?00:09:15

🚀 Ready to get on video? Chat with me →https://calendly.com/podcastprinciples/discover

It’s time. We need to change what the title “Social Media Manager” means.

Why?

Because digital marketing and video content demands more than being simply “managed”. You need a creator, a collaborator – someone that is going to take your content, campaign, or brand to the next level.

But why don’t we take it a step further.. Why do we need to have these people do so much while specializing in so little?

In this episode, I’m going to explain to you the difference between having legit content strategy – and simply checking the boxes..

15 Nov 2021Jake Bjorseth - How to Get 8 Billion Views on an Ad Campaign, Founding a Gen Z Media Company, and Why the Modern Influencer has Changed01:03:34
"What's inevitable is the decentralization of social media. Things will become platformless, and when they do, they will become influencer-powered platforms. It will be at that moment when influencers take power from the platforms themselves, that they helped create. At the end of the day, these platforms don't exist without influencers. That is the future. That will take place in the next 5-10 years." - Jake Bjorseth on BopCast

Jake Bjorseth is the founder of Trndsttrs Media - an advertising company by Gen Z'ers, for brands looking to connect with the Gen Z audience and customers. Since founding Trndsttrs, they've amassed over 10 billion impressions for their clients with countless viral ad campaigns. You may recognize names like Denny's, Garmin, the North Face, and PacSun among the many brands they've worked with.

Jake has been in the space for almost 5 years now starting in college. He found himself in a room with some suits being questioned about Gen Z behaviors when he realized there was an opportunity for a business.

In this episode, you'll discover how Jake and his team created one of the most successful ad campaigns in history amassing over 8 billion views on TikTok. Along with that, we touch on Jake's story and how he turned an impromptu meeting into a full-blown business from bootstrapping to dropping out of college. We end with the state of social media as it relates to Gen Z and the future of influencer marketing.

16 May 2022Chaz & Natalia Hazlitt - The Celebrity Barber on Co-Authoring a Best-Selling Children's Book with his Daughter01:32:59

Chaz 'ceehaz' Hazlitt is a celebrity barber, former hip-hop music manager, and co-owner of the infamous Stache Barber Shop in Union, New Jersey. Chaz and his daughter, Natalia co-authored, "Charlie's first Haircut" together - a children's book detailing the ins and out of getting your first haircut as a kid through the lens of Natalia's brother, and Chaz's son, Charlie. The two had no idea they'd reach the best-seller status on Amazon when they began the project on Google Docs as a way to have fun during the shutdown.

We have to thank AK40DEVIN for introducing me to Chaz as well as his cousin, Ariel, the first barber I've ever had on the show.

13 Sep 2021Tyler Braddock - Founder of The Vault Music Studio on Escaping the 9-5, Achieving 5-Year Goals, and 4 Years as a Small Business Owner00:32:05
"You never know, that's the scary part. [But] I didn't even last a full year of working full time before quitting. When I was doing my 9-5, I'd work 6PM to 1AM or so - my real job started after hours. I was projecting my 5 year goals, my 10 year goals. This is pretty close to what I was envisioning at the time. I look back at it 5 years and most of it is aligned with what I wrote down." - Tyler Braddock, on BopCast

Tyler Braddock is the founder and owner of The Vault in Boonton, NJ. The Vault is a music studio dedicated to mixing, mastering, tracking, and recording artists of all genres. Tyler's work ethic and mindset are unstoppable, and he continues to be a mentor for me in my life and my music.

On a whim, I applied for an unpaid internship at The Vault in the summer of 2019. I didn't have a job and I was paying my rent from savings, but I knew I wanted to be around producers and musicians. I drove 45 minutes each way to get to the studio each day, but it didn't matter. The experience I gained was invaluable and as Tyler did his job, he patiently responded to my countless questions about producing, mixing, and mastering music.

This is the second on-location podcast for us, and I can't thank Tyler enough for letting us come to the studio to record this.

22 Mar 2021How to Get a Job Without Applying and Why Starting Your Business While Working a 9-5 Makes More Sense with Austin Belcak00:48:12

Can you imagine landing your dream job without even applying online?

When I started my LinkedIn journey, I was happy to connect with Austin. I was working at a marketing company, but I hated my job. I would always enjoy reading Austins posts about job search tips, and how to land your dream job, not just some position to pay the bills.

Fast forward 6 months and I quit that job, pivoted to podcasting full time and interviewed Austin about his company, Cultivated Culture. He created the business to help regular folks land dream jobs - I'm not talking the 4.0 Harvard grads, I'm talking the 3.4GPA state school type of people. What he was doing stood out to me.

In this interview we dive into how his college side hustles led him to start and run a successful business, and the reason he stayed at his 9-5 at Microsoft. I'm also happy to announce he since quit that job, and runs Cultivated Culture full time

Find Austin on LinkedIn here, and IG here where he posts daily tips and insight.

"Right now is the best time to get involved. Whether that be modeling, dancing, making podcasts - it is better to go for it then not."

Melena originates from Russia but has been modeling, dancing and creating for years now in the U.S. She currently attends Stockton University in New Jersey.

Mel has been published in magazines and advertisements and is serious about her grind. She is one of the kindest people I've connected with recently and her energy is real! Our conversation flowed effortlessly and I hope that you guys enjoyed it as much as we did. Find BOPCAST anywhere podcasts are found! Links below.

29 Jan 2024These Guys Gained 50,000 Podcast Downloads in 24 Months - Wealth Warehouse Live Case Study and Interview00:39:00

🎙️ Start Your Podcast Today: https://calendly.com/podcastprinciples/discover

You can talk and talk about the values and benefits of podcasting. But, you can only go so far before people start looking for hard results.

…and the truth is, that’s difficult for this type of product. It takes lots of ingredients and lots of time to create a delicious chili – and the same principle is true for podcasts.

This week, I sit down with a couple early clients of mine (and fellow podcasters) Dave Befort and Paul Fugere, hosts of Wealth Warehouse.

I’m hoping this episode hopefully scratches that itch for any would-be creators out there as we dive into what Dave and Paul’s POV and experience has been. From the show’s inception and building out their production process, to the impact on their weekly schedule, relationships and most importantly: their bottom line.

28 Mar 2022TidBit Music - DJing at 12, Rehab at 20, Singing at 23 and a Live Performance01:17:39

Tidbit Music is a singer, songwriter, performer, DJ, and music producer. He began his DJ career at 12 years old and always knew he would be an artist and performer. After a stint with drugs 3 years ago, he entered a rehab that transformed his life; story enclosed.

Tidbit is known for his EDM roots, intense mixes, unique genre-bending song flips his most recent release, "Let it Go," and his live performances of his brand new song, "Forget About Me."

It's always an incredible experience to have an artist perform live on the podcast, and this one completely blew me away. His energy is simply unmatched. Tidbit performed, "Forget About Me," in the studio with us, and you can find that video here.

30 Jan 2023Comedian Judges My Jokes LIVE | How to Do Your First Open Mic with No Experience w/ Comedian, Sean Flynn01:18:06

This week, I’m sitting down with comedian, filmmaker, and all-around creative - Sean Flynn. If his demeanor isn't to your taste, don't worry, I'll be sure to bring the vibe all the way down with my terrible jokes.

As I've said before, I’m a huge fan of comedy - and with so many parallels between both our chosen forms of expression, I was really eager to hear more from Sean in terms of his start in comedy as well as how he’s been honing and improving his craft.

We also cover The Alamo, increased phone usage, Italian-American heritage, and much more!

Episode Highlights

(0:00) - Introduction

(1:38) - Some background on Sean and what he’s trying to accomplish

(6:03) - Best way to do an open mic

(8:45) - Why did Sean even start?

(15:35) - So how does comedy “work”?

(21:19) - Dating and being offended

(32:06) - Phones and technology

(34:28) - Hitlers Tea Cup

(39:31) - Some useless information

(55:56) - Sean judges my own jokes

(1:08:45) - Sean wrap’s it up with a joke
