16 Aug 2019 | Music That Matters, Vol. 682 - Mixtape Week Edition | 00:54:06
DJ Riz delivers a smooth late-night mix featuring Four Tet, Blood Orange, Quelle Chris, JusMoni and Makaya McCraven. In his words, “In honor of KEXP’s mixtape week, here’s a little contemporary something I put together in my head then on ‘tape. I don’t think there’s an on air ‘selector’ here that hasn’t done dozens of these, made personally for someone they love, cherish, or even hate. This one’s a nocturnal mix.. ‘nocturne’ from wikipedia: “The name nocturne was first applied to pieces in the 18th century, when it indicated an ensemble piece in several movements, normally played for an evening party and then laid aside.” Like Ray Charles sang, “night time is the right time.” I dedicate this to ‘Bill‘ and everyone I’ve had the pleasure of exchanging a mixtape with throughout the years. Keep making em. Keep trading em. Enjoy.” -Riz Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donate See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Recent allegations have emerged against numerous artists on Burger Records, including Black Lips who are featured in this mix. The behavior survivors are alleging in recent days relating to bands in the Burger Records orbit is horrifying and reprehensible. We join many others in the community calling for accountability and reckoning within an industry that too often allows this type of behavior to be tolerated and ignored. KEXP has provided coverage and airplay for many of the artists named in the allegations, over many years. When allegations like these surface, we start from a position of believing victims and survivors, we attempt to learn more, and we take immediate appropriate action until the issue has been resolved, if it is. We're also making sure our DJs are aware of the allegations, and will be communicating with them to make sure they continue to follow the story. We will also be following this story through our own editorial coverage. For more information on how you can support sexual assault survivors or if you need support yourself, visit RAINN.org.
