01 Jan 202320. Taylor Flanick: Becoming a Non-Traditional Sports Chiropractor00:48:08

Hi fam!  Meet Taylor Flanick - she currently runs her own sport chiropractic business.  She may be a familiar name as she interned with Clinical Athlete back in 2020 and helped run a lot of journal clubs and round tables during the pandemic.  Today we chat about her frustrations going through chiropractic school and navigating patient expectations now that she’s practicing using a non-traditional model.  I hope you find Taylor’s honest reflection as refreshing as I did!

09 Jul 20229. Chris Juneau: Welcoming Uncertainty While Still Building Strong Rapport01:03:42

Yall, Chris Juneau is just one of those guys that you want in your corner!  He is the kind of guy who wants to help move you forward in your own career.  I appreciate Chris’ viewpoint, because while he has had a breadth of experience, he holds his beliefs loosely.  Today we talk about his journey from perfection to uncertainty, injury prevention to risk mitigation and the importance of honoring patient preferences.  I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!

26 Feb 202446. Thornton Johnson: Non-Clinical PT Path00:52:01

Hey, friends!

I’d love to introduce you to my friend and old co-worker Thornton Johnson.  He has transitioned out of the clinic to a fully remote role where he works as a medical writer for Smith and Nephew, a medical technology company.  Thornton works as an evidence evaluation specialist within their sports and orthopedics department, where he gets to marry his clinical understanding of post-operative rehab with his love for reading research, all while collaborating with engineers and product developers.

The coolest part?  You don’t need a PhD to do this job!  Don’t sleep on “PT-adjacent jobs” if you’re feeling burned out from patient care.

25 May 20226. Becoming Unstuck with Phil Sheedy: Groin Pain00:35:15

Welcome to the first installment of a lil’ side series I’m calling Becoming Unstuck.  The aim here is to capture live “mentor calls” over sticky cases.  Today I chat with my friend Phil Sheedy who works with a lot of high level soccer players and treats the hip and groin significantly more often than myself.  Phil provided a lot of quick hitters related to eval flow, differential diagnosis, patient education, and considering when a more specific approach to treatment is warranted.  I hope this is helpful to you!

01 Apr 20222. Betta Clark: Being ‘The Fixer,’ Fear of Pain During Exercise, and Postpartum ‘Dysfunction00:45:25

I bring you the first of many dark horses that I get to call friends and colleagues.

Today my old PT school classmate, Betta Clark, joins me to talk about her journey thus far. Betta and I were treatment partners in PT school and looking back on our treatment notes we've both changed our approach significantly. We chat about how overwhelming being "the fixer" is, how scary it used to be to provoke pain during exercise, and how Betta's own postpartum experience changed her views on what it means to have "pelvic floor dysfunction." Enjoy!
