06 Oct 2023Streamlining Procurement and Reducing Overhead Costs With Jordyn Levitas00:33:35

29 Sep 2023Marketing Your Story: How Story-Telling Will Help You Grow Your Dental Clinic With Joshua Scott00:35:40

Believe it or not, traditional dental marketing doesn't attract new patients not because marketing doesn’t work but because your strategy doesn't accurately represent your practice.

When a patient lands on a templated website with stock photography and clunky design, they have nothing to connect with and they leave.

This is why your marketing strategy can make or break your dental practice and having the right one can save you (and make you) a lot of money.

To discuss this in more depth, I’ve invited a dental marketing expert on the podcast this week.

His name is Joshua Scott and he is the owner and CEO of Studio 8E8, a dentistry story-driven marketing agency.

Studio 8E8 was recently named a “Top Healthcare Marketing Agency in the United States” by Healthcare Business Review. Their mission is to create more authentic marketing by telling better stories.

This isn’t Joshua’s first time here as a guest, but for those who don’t know him, he is a marketing speaker and a consultant who has spent the last 21 years in the dental industry.

Today, he’s here to discuss how to market your dental clinic better, what makes Studio 8E8 unique, the importance of story-telling in dental marketing, and more.

Are you ready?

Let’s dive in.

On this episode of the Raving Patients Podcast, Len sits down with Dr. Eric Block to discuss anxiety, burnout, and mental health of dentists. They also discuss DealsforDentists as well as Dr. Block's story to becoming a dentist.

About Dr. Eric Block:

I got my DMD from the Nova Southeastern College of Dental Medicine in Ft. Lauderdale in 2002.  After  NOVA, I knew I wasn't ready for private practice both clinically and mentally I also wanted to get involved with implants b/c I thought it was a future and a way out of just doing general dentistry.  I actually thought I was going to be a quote unquote implantologist and just placed and restored implants all day.  I went to BU and completed a two-year Dental Implantology residency at Boston University in 2004.  It was like a mimi perio/pros but focused on extractions/bone graft and placing and restoring implants.  After BU, I entered Private practice after school with about $300Kin debt.  I associated for many years and am now a partner/owner of Acton Dental Associates, Which is a 9 operatory multi-specialty practice with about 4500 active patients. I started www.dealsfordentists.com during the coronavirus shutdown.  It is a free marketplace where dentists can find the latest new customers from vendors across the industry. Also started The Deals for Dentists podcast where I interview dentists and vendors to find out their stories and how they can help other dentists.  Especially young dentists nationwide.  I am also writing a book (title to be named later) about dentists and their mental health.

Frank King, Suicide Prevention speaker and Trainer was a writer for The Tonight Show for 20 years. Depression and suicide run in his family. He’s thought about killing himself more times than he can count. He’s fought a lifetime battle with Major Depressive Disorder and Chronic Suicidality, turning that long dark journey of the soul into five TEDx Talks and sharing his lifesaving insights on Mental Health Awareness with associations, corporations, and colleges. A Motivational Public Speaker who uses his life lessons to start the conversation giving people permission to give voice to their feelings and experiences surrounding depression and suicide. And doing it by coming out, as it were, and standing in his truth, and doing it with humor. He believes that where there is humor there is hope, where there is laughter there is life, nobody dies laughing. The right person, at the right time, with the right information, can save a life.

14 Jan 2022Episode 2 - The Healthcare R&D Tax Credit00:37:50

11 Apr 2020Episode 13: Using Virtual Consults During Covid-19 Pandemic00:40:23

We interrupt our previously scheduled podcasts during the Covid-19 Pandemic...

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, we’ve been getting a lot of questions about our platform Your Virtual Consult and we've have decided to make our platform available to all dentists who need it at no cost for 2 months. Virtual consults can be used to communicate with patients that are quarantined and help teams communicate with patients in a safe way to understand what cases are elective vs. non-elective. It also provides a unique opportunity for dentists to be recognized as a progressive leader in your local community with a tool that few other offices will have.

You can use Your Virtual Consult to quickly set up a simple landing page where patients can go and fill out a form and submit photos to get pre-screened. You can link to this landing page in your emails to patients and through social media posts. The virtual consult platform will let you respond to patients with a simple treatment plan, before and after photos, a recorded video consult (it's not live), and next steps. The platform will bundle all this info up into a custom virtual consult for patients. Finally, the platform also manages all the automated email follow up.

Michael and Len discuss the following:

What are virtual consults?

Under normal circumstances how can dentist use virtual consults?

How can dentist use virtual consults to support them durring the COVID-19 outbreak?

Michael’s passion for entrepreneurship landed him square in the middle of Milwaukee’s growing start-up community. Playing an active role on the local scene, he and Laura started laying the groundwork to grow Wonderist Agency. With artistic vision and a scrappy, jack-of-all-trades mindset, Michael has brought energy and strength to a great foundation. When Michael isn’t burning the midnight oil, you might find him working on his 1964 classic boat, fishing, rummaging through local antique stores, or enjoying a craft brew.

21 Sep 2018Episode 24: The Business of Dentistry01:01:17

Vivek Kinra is a Computer Engineer by degree but his career moved into business management at a young age. He has had multiple leadership roles leading big engineering departments at large corporations.

He got into dentistry by marrying a dentist. His wife Dr. Lyuda started a scratch practice in late 2015 in a very saturated area of Chicago. The practice, VIP Dental Lounge, is a small 3 operatory practice (expanding into 6 shortly) that is setup as a very high tech office. Their goal is to build the best dental office in Chicago from the 'eyes of a patient'.

Vivek designed the office as well as setup the business processes to drive profitability to the practice

Vivek has built the business side of the practice to be a million dollar practice running at less than 50% overhead. He has been successful at negotiating insurance contracts to get insurance reimbursements high enough to have less than 10% writeoffs.

Vivek's next project is to build his course where he teaches the secrets of getting better reimbursements from insurance companies dentists are already in network with.

Tom is passionate about science, technology and business. Having written his first computer program at the age of 7, Tom is a developer at heart, but the ability to create something tangible, starting with nothing more than an idea, is to him, a lifelong fascination.

24 Jul 2020Episode 36 - Marketing Power Trio- Google Reviews, Google My Business and Website Speed00:54:10

On this Facebook Live series converted into a podcast, Len sits down with Sean Hamel to discuss how website speed is often overlooked in today's dental marketing landscape.  With Google rolling out Mobile-First Indexing this Fall, it's important for everyone to know where they stand and ensure they are trending with where technology is going - not where it's been.

Google My Business and Google Reviews are both under utilized and shrouded in a lot of misinformation.  Sean brings clarity to using GMB and Google Reviews as powerful tools in a practice's marketing arsenal.  Tools that don't require any additional financial spend, but provide massive ROI for the time investment.

Takeaways from this podcast include:

- How to get more website speed
-  How to use your Google My Business effectively
-  Do's and Don'ts of Google Reviews
-  Dentistry is a relational business at it's core. It's time to get back to basics, spend more intentionally, and use their website and Google to their maximum potential.

Sean Hamel has been a natural marketer all of his life.  From starting his own landscape company in the fifth grade to years spent touring the country as a professional musician, Sean is a natural relationship builder, brand creator, and outside-the-box thinker.  Sean founded Art of Dental Marketing in 2016 because he was tired of seeing dentists being over-charged and underserved in all aspects of their practice marketing.
ADM builds ultra-fast, video-based websites that blossom on a foundation of real relationships, community connection, solid branding, and great patient experiences.  Sean and his team focus on helping dentists be intentional in their marketing and build their practices without gimmicks or discounting their services.  At ADM, it's about the story you tell, not the dentistry you sell.

21 Jan 2022Episode 3 - The Opposite of Dental Insurance00:47:41

On this episode of the Raving Patients Podcast, Len sits down with Leslie D’Agostino to discuss how we've barely scraped the service of the cultural/societal changes that we're beginning to see. Consumers dislike dental insurance just as much as you do; people are looking for alternative options. Playing small will not serve your office, your patient base, or those needing to access care. By offering membership plans, you're lifting the typical insurance barrier, that unfortunately plays a role in your case acceptance rate. Efficiency, however, will be key in order to have team buy-in and scale your automated revenue stream. Companies that have, by definition, automated revenue, are no longer viewed on the same playing field as transactional based companies; automated, subscription based revenue is given a 2-3x multiplier, conservatively speaking, in terms of valuation. Your membership plans should be 100% autonomous, and configured in a way that is not only appealing for those uninsured, but also those who are "insured."

Leslie D’Agostino is the COO and Product Manager of Planrise, a web-based dental membership platform. She is a graduate of TWU and a dental hygienist of 7 years. Leslie completed an internship in oral pathology from Baylor College of Dentistry. Prior to her involvement in the tech space, she managed a business, administrative staffing firm in Fort Worth, TX. It was here she learned trends in the increasing gig workforce, and witnessed a large population that is uninsured and underinsured.

03 Jan 2020Episode 01: Dr. Z00:46:54

Dr. Olya Zahrebelny (pronounced Zara-bell-knee) graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto, Canada, then completed a General Practice Residency, focusing on oral surgery, oral medicine, and oral pathology. She practiced in both hospital and private practice environments for over three decades years.

Dr. "Z", as she is fondly called by her patients, is a former consultant to commercial and government insurance programs. She has also taught at three dental schools, in the Departments of Restorative Dentistry and Oral Medicine/Diagnosis, as well as holding the position of Attending Physician at Swedish Covenant Hospital for 19 years, and also an Attending Physician in the General Practice Residency program at the University of Illinois, Chicago Medical Center.

She has lectured extensively throughout the US at all the major dental meetings, as well as for state and local societies and study clubs, University continuing education programs, and hospital residents. Her articles on medical billing have been published in DentalTown, Dentist’s Money Digest, Inclusive Magazine, Dental Economics, and Insurance Solutions. She has been teaching medical billing to dental offices for the past 27 years, and her book, “Accessing Medical Benefits in the Comprehensive and Surgical Dental Practice” has been in print for the last 20 years.

Dr. Z is a general dentist, with special interests in cosmetic and implant dentistry, and a Principal in The Z Group, a practice management consulting company, focused on training dentists on in-house medical billing.

28 Jul 20233 Reasons You Must Build a Total Health Practice for Tomorrow With Uche Odiatu00:40:30

Here in the Raving Patients Podcast, we don’t always just focus on dental clinics. We also care about our overall health.

You see, our bodies are made of a number of different systems that are all interconnected in different ways. And one thing going wrong in one organ can end up causing a number of other health issues that, at first sight, look completely unrelated.

And yet, the more you learn about the body, the more you understand that it’s all one big machine that needs to be treated in a way that takes into account every part of it.

To discuss this further, I’ve invited an expert on the podcast; someone who I’ve been wanting to have this discussion with ever since the first season.

His name is Uche Odiatu, and he is a professional member of the American College of Sports Medicine and a practicing dentist in Toronto.

He is also the author of The Miracle of Health, as well as a certified personal trainer, a certified yoga instructor, and a certified bootcamp instructor.

Today, he’s here to tell us all about how he got into wellness, the importance of taking care of your gut health, how sleep medicine can help you live a healthier life, and more.

Are you ready?

Let’s dive in.

23 Nov 2018Episode 33: Keys to a Healthy Smile After 4000:45:04

Dr. Janice graduated from USC Dental School in 2009. She is currently practicing general dentistry in beautiful sunny San Diego. She is also an author. She co-author her book with her sister called “Keys to a Healthy Smile After 40: 7 Secrets to Feeling 7 Years Younger” and is currently available on Amazon. Together, Dr. Justene Doan and Dr. Janice Doan run A+ Family Dentistry in San Diego. Recognized as “Top 40 Under 40” dentists in America in 2015, they have been featured in the media as exceptional dentists.

The Sisters understand dental care both personally and professionally. They both have beautiful, healthy white smiles today -- but it wasn’t always that way. The Doan sisters were born in Vietnam. After the war, their prospects were bleak. They tried to escape, but were captured and imprisoned in a concentration camp. They didn’t have enough to eat -- or even a toothbrush. Their teeth were full of cavities. Their book reveals the miraculous story of their harrowing escape from Vietnam to America.  After receiving dental care in the US and experiencing first-hand the transformation in their health, confidence, and smiles, the Doan sisters decided to become dentists.

Drs. Justene and Janice Doan are passionate about spreading the message that it’s not too late to get a healthy, beautiful smile. Most people have no clue how to care for their teeth in their forties, fifties, and beyond, and they’re jeopardizing their smile and their health without knowing it. And It’s not their fault.
