Vivika Hansen Denegre is an avid artist and crafter who lives and works in New England. By day, she is the editor of Quilting Arts and QuiltCon Magazines and serves as the Director of Quilting Content for Golden Peak Media. You’ve likely seen her on Quilting Arts TV, listened to her on The Quilting Arts Podcast, and read some of the many articles and blogposts she writes for traditional quilting publications and QuiltingDaily.com. By night, you can find Vivika hard at work in the studio where she knits, sews, quilts, and draws. She enjoys her work as a volunteer board member of both SAQA and the Modern Quilt Guild and is fascinated by the work of art quilters from around the world.

16 Feb 2022QOF Episode 58 - Kim Niedzwiecki Talks Social Media00:48:56

Kim Neidzweicki is a sewist, quilter, and pattern designer with a passion for social media. One thing I loved hearing from her on the podcast is that no one is really a social media guru or maven because it changes every single day. We get massive doses of the unknown from social media and there is so much pressure to go viral. It is intimidating. You finally figure out how to make a reel on Instagram and then TikTok comes along and steals the show. The hardest part of it all is just going gloves off and diving into the ring to try everything. It’s new to everyone. We are not alone. And Kim is out there spreading the word about how people can grow.

31 Mar 2022QOF Episode 61 - Tracy Mooney01:26:45

This week my special guest is Tracy Mooney. When I first met her recently at quilt festival in Houston, I learned first hand that it is very cool to meet a podcast personality and hear their voice in person for the first time. I'd been listening to the Quilt'n'Tell Podcast for a while. I started to feel like I was getting to know her and her fellow hosts.  It's kind of hard to believe you're meeting that person behind the voice on the podcast. Tracy Mooney is the Editor of Quiltmaker Magazine and Fons and Porter's Quick and Easy Quilts. She is Producer and one of the three hosts of the Quilt & Tell podcast with Lori Baker and Ginger Sheehy-Tatic.

She thrives in her roles because she is a deadline driven writer and journalist with over a decade of experience. So let's take a listen to her story...

As a Canadian myself I loved this idea of promoting local quilt shops across the nation.  Amanda Brown is the curator of that Instagram feed where she features Canadian modern quilters as well. I reached out to her to find out more and it went something like this…

24 Jan 2023QOF Episode 103 - Laura Kemshall01:50:07

I was particularly delighted to have Laura Kemshall on the show because when I first mentioned it to her at Festival of Quilt last year in the summer, Frankly, she was horrified,  she didn't want to do it,  but I did convince her. So she doesn't do many interviews, so I was excited.

This mother and daughter team (Linda & Laura) has literally pioneered the online learning space in creative arts, and they've brought it to the world in a way that sings to the student and lifts them up, and it's perfectly affordable. It was so incredible just standing in front of Laura's work at the show, at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham.

I'd seen it for years in magazines online, in her courses on the computer screen, but it just, when you see it in person, in front of your face, it just takes you in, tells you a story, and spits you out, inspired to make art. So I loved sharing Laura's story with you.

09 May 2023QOF Episode 116 - Karin King00:33:48

Karen King loves the modern quilt aesthetic and has a particular fondness for foundation paper piecing. She has had quilts juried into Quilt Con 2022 and 2023, the largest annual show of modern quilts in the world.

Her studio has grown to include a long arm machine and two resident feline supervisors, plus occasional foster kittens. Just for fun, Karen's favorite color is all of them, but she admits to a smaller stash of yellow, which I couldn't believe when I read that because my favorite colour is yellow. But cooking and music, especially from the band U2, and travel everywhere, especially if U2 is playing there, are also a big part of her life. Beyond quilting, Karen enjoys sharing her knowledge and expertise with a number of different organizations on a volunteer basis. Currently she serves on the board of the Modern Quilt Guild, the Calgary Folk Festival, and the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew.

My guest today is Heidi Parkes. She is a quilter, textile artist, and yoga therapist. She is a sought after teacher and speaker on the quilting scene and has exhibited her work in art and textile museums across the US. I could hardly even write this little intro myself, because I loved every word in her bio on her website, so here's an excerpt from that;  "Often using specific textiles, like an heirloom tablecloth, bedsheet, or cloth teabag, Heidi adds subtle meaning and material memory from the start. Engaging in the worlds of art, quilts, mending, and social media, Heidi is an advocate for the domestic realms, slow stitching, and mindfulness." - Heidi Parkes

That was so well written. I just had to use that in the intro. I hope you love this episode!

My guest today is Shannon Brinkley. She is an American quilt and fabric designer, author, and national speaker and teacher. She is known for her scrappy applique technique, which uses scrappy bits of applique, of course, to make modern art quilts.

She is the founder of the Meander Quilt Guild, a community for education and growth The Patrick program training quilters to become successful quiltpreneurs and turn their craft into a career.   And today you'll find out there's so much more where that came from.
