Anthropomorphism and how it weaves in to our lives without a whisper. The definition of Anthropomorphism is the attribution of human characteristics or behavior to a god, animal, or object. This behavior on our part is why it can be difficult to recognize "normal" behavior with in our canine companions. Understanding them on a deeper level and letting go of human though for a moment can connect us to to a different perception of reality. Lets live together and respect the individual nature of other life on this planet.

Ever wonder where or why the Bully Breeds earned such a negative reputation? Me too! These breeds happen to be some of the most loyal and loving family members of all time. We always hear the terms dominant and submissive being loosely used when describing our dogs behavior or to describe the method of training being applied. Understanding the natural balance of these two very important behaviors is incredibly important. Often the word dominant construes as aggressive and submissive construes as fearful. These are very different behaviors and are often confused. Healthy levels of aggression and fear are also natural behaviors of communication. However, forward aggression in many instances (NOT ALL) is a product of fear. Fear meaning lack of structure or communication both internal (within the pack), and external (the expectation of the stranger). With the holiday rapidly approaching we may be wondering what is best for our furry little family members. This is a very common question this time of the year and a great one at that. The Bracco Italiano has been called the oldest European pointer, and its history reaches back as far as the fourth or fifth century BC. The Bracco, that’s B R A C C O, for all that have not heard of this breed, is a 55-88 pound hound looking pointer. If you haven’t heard of the breed you should definitely look it up online. Bracco’s make wonderful companions but require a lot of mental and physical stimulation. This breed is born to work the hunting fields. Their predatorial drive is very high and they typically shine in the field. However, they require a bit of finesse with training. Traditional hunting methods tend to suppress the Braccos natural instincts. There are dangers all around us and its good to be aware of them. Sometimes the most dangerous things hide in plain sight. In this episode I share my personal encounter with the Foxtail plant. The barbed seed heads of the Foxtail plant can work their way into any part of your dog, the nose, between the toes, inside the ears, eyes, and mouth. ... The danger of Foxtail goes beyond simple irritation as it could embed and cause major infections, even blindness and deafness. Training devices can be very useful and make training easier but I feel it is massively important to understand that these are not the solution! Using devices in-place of training will never yield the results you may be looking for and can cause both physical and mental harm to your dog in the long run. With the COVID 19 virus spreading rapidly throughout the world. We find ourselves confined to our homes in quarantine and unsure of what to do or what to expect. Sure, walking your dog and playing with the ball in the confines of your backyard is a great way to burn off some energy and pass some time, but does that truly address behavior issues? What are some of the issues that may result from this sudden change in routine? Now we have all the time in the world, so let’s make the best of this.

Dog parks have become more and more on the minds of dog owners. The conflicting opinions leave dog owners wondering if these are the right choices for their furry family members. Are they truly beneficial to your dog or is this just another anthropomorphic human projection of how we think they feel.

Fear has many faces and more often than not, wildly misunderstood. Not all fear is negative. In fact most dogs exhibit fear based off of a natural instinct called survival. Unfortunately, these behaviors are commonly misdiagnosed as abuse and treated as such with anthropomorphic treatment such as coddling, which enables the dog's negative behavior through justification, creates an insecurity in the structure and inflames their anxiety.

Raising a puppy can be the greatest experience of your life but this does not typically come easily. Developing together is no short of astounding. Build the blocks of life, side-by-side, as each experience presents itself to this beautiful new soul. The first raindrop to kiss his or her nose, the smell of a tasty new treat, the sound of the raging wind of a spring storm, and the frightening unpredictable movement of a paper bag as you unload your groceries after an afternoon of food shopping. All of these experiences of life are new and exciting and terrifying all at the same time, not only for your puppy but you as well as you.

A spark of hope fills the air with the updates on the coronavirus treatments moving forward. Yet, still, we are confined to our homes and doing the best we can to help prevent the spread of this nasty pandemic. There has been an overwhelming amount of people that have reached out to me in the past few weeks with questions and situations that are cropping up as time goes by in quarantine isolation.

Throughout my years as an Animal Behavior Specialists, when addressing aggressive behaviors, one particular situation that stands out among them all is the internal struggle for hierarchy within the pack. Male to male fighting, female to male fighting, and in my experience, the worst of them all is the female to female battle of dominance. For this episode, Let’s focus on the female to female structural dynamics.

I have recently received an influx of emails and Facebook messages regarding behavior issues. More so than normal. I have reviewed all of the messages and found that there was a commonality among them. So, for this episode, I would love to address these questions as a whole. Canine psychology is vast, to say the least, and there are many different approaches one can take toward addressing issues. This episode I had the absolute pleasure of speaking with, up and coming Country Music Artist Allison Asarch. Growing up in Houston, Texas, Allison discovered her love for music at a young age. This episode strikes me deep in the soul. Featuring special guest, Artist, dog lover and dog life advocate Lise Ellingsen. We discuss the current state of Norway’s dog laws and the actions that are in progress to change them for the better.
