07 Sep 2022About Larae and Scott and Who We Are00:31:18
The idea of a podcast was an idea that we have wanted to do for a long time and now here we are, with a few more years of learning under our belt, which has helped because over the last 5 years we have gone through a lot, including Covid, a lot of world change, and change within our families. There has been some heartache, a lot of laughter, and every day we learn to love a little bit deeper. Larae led the corporate warrior life and Scott worked in finance, but in 2016 we decided to make a change and pursue a more meaningful path where we could discover more purpose. We’re excited to explore and share the deep insights and learning we experience with you.

“We want to plant seeds that point in the direction and for each one of you to just have more the courage and the strength to find those answers and to know that the journey into that discovery, the dark cave that you don’t want to go into, holds that treasure and that the treasure is really worth putting in the time and the effort to find it.” 19:24
07 Sep 2022Introduction to the Observatory Podcast00:04:22
This podcast actually started 5 years ago, when Larae bought the equipment to start recording, knowing that this was something they would do. While knowing this is what we wanted to do, life got in the way and things just stayed stagnant. Together we will explore stories, emotions, relationships, experiences, music, and anything else that will take us to that place of being. To who you have always been. We want to meet and talk with people who can challenge and push us to ponder and question what we thought was truth. We look forward to learning with you!
15 Sep 2022Mustang Medicine with Hugh Vail | Learning to Understand Your Internal Emotions01:39:11
We have a good friend of ours on the podcast today, Mr. Hugh Vail. We’ve known Hugh for about 4 years or so and when we were introduced to one another, he began this process of working with wild mustangs. He was on his own journey of healing, which is something that really connected us. We discuss how horses are so similar to humans in various ways and how they are able to help us understand our own internal feelings. Our most profound messengers from inside of us are our emotions, and if we have resentment in our life or feel we’re carrying it, it’s because we have pain that has been avoided and ignored. “Don’t seek for peace because when you seek for it, all you get is non peace. Seek to just be OK with what is, and then you will all of a sudden have peace.” -Eckhart Tolle

There’s a couple things, obviously they’re on 4 feet, we stand up right, but when you get into the skeleton, they only have 2 more bones than we do because one of the joints in their feet moves differently. Other than that they’re the same, the same digestive system, the same reproductive systems, the same everything. The human body has 11 major systems and horses have the same systems.” 20:53

07 Sep 2022Coming Back from Death with Jeff Olsen | Understanding Yourself from Within01:04:39
Today we sit down with our good friend, Jeffrey Olsen, to have a conversation with him about many different subjects. We delve into his near death experience, his book, his concept of wellness, connection to nature, indiginous ways, and all sorts of wonderful things. Jeff tells us his amazing experience he had when he died for a short time and the feelings and thoughts that went through his mind and heart during this occurrence. We discuss how you can look within yourself and find answers you may be searching for. We are constantly changing and learning, and realizing our own motivations can lead us to better understand who we are and why we do what we do.

“Everything had perfect order. Suddenly I was experiencing no judgment, in fact I was even judging saying ‘Wow, I hope I can be forgiven.’ and it was almost as if my judgment was the only judgment. There was no judgment in the universe, there was no divine judgment. It was just my own experience and my own judgments of it…We are divine beings. We’re having different experiences. All of our experiences are vastly different, but our emotions around those things is what connects us and unifies us if we’re willing to feel and experience that.” 15:52

It all happens whether we’re exercising or sleeping, or in yoga, or whatever we’re doing, we have to breathe. It’s one of the things that when we talk about mindfulness, it is one of the sole things that can bring us truly back into our body.” 12:10?

13 Oct 2022Thought, Consciousness, and Mind with Dicken Bettinger | We’re All Connected01:24:31
Today our guest is Dicken Bettinger, author of the book “Coming Home.” In his life he had the opportunity to work with and rub shoulders with Sidney Banks. Sidney had a moment of enlightenment in his life where he understood some universal principles of what life is, and it changed his life forever. We are pretty passionate about this and really it is the foundation of why we’re doing what we’re doing, so we invite you to sit back, take a moment, listen with your heart, don’t be attached to the words and just allow this message to flow through you.

Today we talk to a good friend of ours, Justin Swensen. He lives in Kanab, Utah and works in the wilderness therapy realm, working in a number of different ways and using other different methods, which we get into in this episode. Justin tells us about the positive effects that prolonged time in nature has on their clients and how they’re able to go and find that same connection with nature when they return home where you might not think nature or the same peaceful elements can be found. He has been able to see multiple young people experience the healing power that nature can have when prolonged time is spent there. “That cave you fear to enter holds the treasure that you seek.”

You have to bank on your vision. You have to hold tight to your vision, and you have to implement processes and systems to keep that vision progressing.” 11:58

27 Oct 2022Lifting the Human Spirit Through Sculpture with Gary and Leesa Price | Finding True Connection01:12:34
We are joined today by Gary and Leesa Price. Gary and Scott have known each other for a very long time and we’re excited to share this conversation we had with them. These two are a couple that really does like each other who have a strong belief that things happen for a reason and that their journeys are often the very thing that make us who we are. Leesa was widowed at the age of 26 and left with 4 children under the age of 6 when her husband took his own life and went through a really difficult time as she tried to adapt to this new phase of life, but as she was able to work through things, she eventually came to realize that she loved helping other women who were going through difficult times similar to the journey that she had just been down and navigate it better than she did. Gary and Leesa found each other 14 years ago and have loved every minute of their journey as they have grown together.

03 Nov 2022Understanding Ideas of the Afterlife with Sheldon Lawrence | Post Death Concepts01:07:32
We’re delighted to welcome Sheldon Lawrence, author of “Hearts of the Fathers,” to be here with us today. He’s a great guy and you’ll enjoy listening to him talk and explain his vision of this book that came through him. We discuss his book he wrote that really expands the idea of the afterlife and what it may actually be like, and that our learning and growth won’t end with death, but will continue into the next life. We will be our own judges and determine where we go and who we dwell with based on who we are or who we have become.

“It’s who we are. What do we resonate with? What are we drawn to? That’s the judgment that’s going to happen. I don’t believe in this judgmental God that’s going to be sitting there with a gavel ready to exercise some kind of judgment and here you go. But rather we are judging ourselves. Our very presence, our very being is its own judgment and that will determine the kind of spiritual society that we are drawn to.” 15:57
10 Nov 2022Choosing Joy with David Wise | “I Cannot Fail”01:07:47
Today we have David Wise on the podcast, a very fierce competitor when it comes to the world of halfpipe skiing. He’s a 3 time medalist, 2 gold, and 1 silver in the Olympics, a 6 time X-Games medalist, and a world champion, but we talk more than sports. We talk about the sport of skiing and how his life has unfolded and all the things going on that make him wise beyond his years as a husband, a father, an author, and a competitor. We talk about hunting and the respect David has developed for nature, switching from using firearms to archery.

“There’s a difference between happiness and joy. Happiness is kind of a reaction to good times. Like ‘Oh this is a lovely morning hike I’m on, I’m happy about it.’ But joy is a deeper, almost more soul deep just contendant with where you’re at, even though you may want to be somewhere else, even though you may be headed in another direction, if you can find joy in the moment, then the world’s power over you is so much less.” 21:15

17 Nov 2022The Content Is the Medicine with Kate Strong | Everything That You Experience Is a Teacher01:13:02
Today we welcome our dear friend, Kate Strong. She gets vulnerable as we talk about single motherhood, giving back to women, and her own transformation, which is a powerful story that has layer after layer. We love our conversation with Kate because it will resonate with anyone who is going deeper for themselves. We discuss the importance of self care and how important it is to make sure we are taken care of and being present. It can become so easy to find fault and blame the other person, but owning up to your own mistakes and imperfections will make your own life better and everyone around you will be able to see this positive change and benefit from it. “If we stop being curious, perhaps we’ll die.”

I sat there and I just started crying and I said ‘You know what? I have resources and money, and that’s the only difference. So in that moment I committed that I would show up and I would help women.” 13:47

We talk about that as well as music and frequency, and some beautiful things that he can share as only he can. He tells us about various patients they interviewed and did studies on to try and understand what was going on with the brain while it was so low on oxygen, during these moments that the patients temporarily died, and their findings on consciousness and the brain were pretty remarkable. 12 Jan 2023Unleashing Your Inner Creative Genius | How Chris Nelson Is Helping Authors Everywhere01:01:06
Today our guest is Chris Nelson from Prose Alchemy. He’s a wonderful human being who is a guide that helps people get their stories out there, writing books and doing all sorts of good things. We talked to him about some 3 principles talk, which is one of the subjects we like the most. Chris discusses with us about how you can find creativity in everything you do in life and even just the act of living is a creative process. He says it’s OK to let yourself doubt and wonder if what you’re writing is good or not, and then discusses how you can get past writer’s block. “Wherever you want to create from, go into that space.”

“One of the reasons that I’ve loved getting into this is that you realize that everybody has something valuable and interesting to say and that everybody’s life is to a certain extent unexplored, and in the process of writing you sort of slow down and figure out what is it that is—it’s like opening up a little door into the moment, or some aspect of your life that is very interesting.” 3:26

19 Jan 2023Psychedelics and the Brain | Exploring the Therapeutic Potential of Psilocybin with Dr. Jahan Khamsehzadeh01:01:38
We have a special guest on our show today, Dr. Jahan Khamsehzadeh, who is an author of a recent book called The Psilocybin Connection. We talk about plant medicine and the various modalities that are used in healing these days with Jahan, who knows quite a bit about this subject. Jahan tells about his first experience with psychedelics and an impression he received and voice he heard, which he believes was God, which has set his life on a path he didn’t anticipate earlier in his life. People who experience these types of experiences will often experience a natural regulation of the breathing that will help calm the individual and can put you into a meditative state. Sound is a very important part of the rhythm and can really help people to feel synchronized, which can be magnified through music.

“It’s very clear to me that psychedelics have been the most transformative methods I’ve ever come across and I’ve done a lot of meditation, a lot of therapy, a lot of every modality you can come across, and I also felt this is where I could be the most useful. We’re really missing this crucial element as a species that can really restabilize us, reintegrate us back into the planet and help us really discover who we really are as a species and as more of a larger spiritual being.” 3:39

26 Jan 2023The Bear River Massacre with Darren Parry | “History Is Only Written by the Victors”01:07:31
In this episode we had this opportunity to sit down with Darren Parry, the former chairman chief of the North Western Shoshone tribe, which has about 550 members or so. He shared with us a story that was both tragic and hopeful at the same time about the Bear River Massacre, which is a powerful story. Brigham Young and the Latter-Day Saint movement led many people to Western North America where the Shoshones helped them with foraging and many other necessary survival skills. All was well until resources started becoming more scarce, which led to more and more discontent between the Indians and the settlers.

“What may have started as a battle, and when I think of a battle in my mind, I think of two equal groups, fighting it out, and what may have started equal after 10-15 minutes, quickly turned into indiscriminate killing of men, women, and children. My grandmother told me many times that our people were being slaughtered like wild rabbits. Men, women, and children were being butchered left and right.” 24:05

We are here today with a fairly new friend of ours, Rich Haws, who has an organization called Red Barn Academy, an organization that reinvents lives broken from addiction and crime. He has been through some pretty interesting experiences in his life and we are excited to share those with you today. We talk about Rich’s book, Connecting The Dots, which talks about SEFs, or Serendipitous Encounters with Fortuosity, which are significant events that take place in people’s lives. When discovered, they give hope, purpose, and meaning. Rich talks about the concept of being a team, teamwork, and what it means to be part of a larger body of individuals that all work together to achieve something greater than what any one individual can achieve. He tells us how he is able to help the individuals he works with to get back into society as a stand-up citizen of society.

09 Feb 2023Decriminalizing Nature with Dr. Larry Norris | The Unalienable Natural Right to Plant Use01:04:06
Today we have Dr. Larry Norris on the podcast with us who is the Co-Founder of Decriminalize Nature. He believes it is an unalienable right to have one’s own relationship with Nature, and that human beings and American citizens have an unalienable natural right to use plants of their choice. He encourages empowering grassroots communities to build local and culturally relevant support structures related to entheogens. His doctoral research focuses on ayahuasca experiences and integration, as well as expanding integration concepts beyond the psychotherapeutic paradigm and we discuss many of these aspects. Join us as we have a wide open discussion about building a bridge between the science and the spiritual.

We’re not trying to push it down everyone’s throat, we’re just saying ‘Let’s not arrest people because is throwing someone in jail a safer scenario than letting people engage in these experiences and really see decriminalization as a risk reduction strategy by decriminalizing a lot of the people who are underground so they can actually come above ground now and talk about their experiences, and share with the others.’ They can have support groups or folks that come in and learn about these experiences.” 24:54

16 Feb 2023Embodiment Matters with Carl Rabke | Embracing Essential Aspects of Ourselves01:05:38
In this episode our guest is Carl Rabke, who talks about lots of different subjects and it’s a wonderful conversation, especially on embodiment and how we can move things through our body and our being to be able to process them and integrate them into our lives. Carl works with many different people, helping them get back to more movement in their lives, which is much needed in such a sedentary society in which we live today. We discuss grief and how many of us try to avoid it or avoid going through these difficult processes which are actually a very important part of growth and development.

They’re there to be cared for as essential aspects of ourselves. How do we metabolize those losses, or those traumas, or those challenges, those challenging situations into the medicine that we are meant to carry?” 48:10

23 Feb 2023The Importance of Discovering Yourself with Carl Wright | Going On Your Own Journey - Part 101:11:15
Today our guest and Scott’s nephew, Carl Wright, joins us. He is a father, husband, entrepreneur, coach, a spiritual guru and we’re so excited to have had this vulnerable conversation with him. Carl’s family moved to Bolivia when he was 7 years old where he learned Spanish by watching shows on TV in that language. His dad served as a mission president for the LDS Church, but after the mission he realized he needed to be true to himself about who he really was because he had been hiding that he was gay. Accepting this part of himself was all part of being able to experience greater joy in his life. We have to understand how our beliefs and perceptions are formed, and then realize that all of the things our families/friends/teachers have taught us may or may not be true. Then we can start to realize and see the truth of who we really are. “It’s not How much money can I make.’ It’s ‘How can I help other people?’”

02 Mar 2023Discovering Connection with Colton Brockbank | Understand Your Inner Self01:26:37
We have a special guest today by the name of Colton Brockbank, who discusses lots of beautiful issues to help us come into a space of knowing deeper who we are, recognizing our own patterns and how we can be the catalyst for changing those patterns. Colton grew up in a chaotic home, so from a very young age he took on qualities of being a people pleaser and taking care of people, which was a blessing and a curse. He developed a deep sense of understanding for what people were feeling and thinking, and this really affected his life such as in dating when he always knew what the girls he was with were feeling or thinking concerning him. Colton’s brother had anxiety and depression, and eventually ended up overdosing on a night that Colton felt he should check in with him. Since then, Colton has developed a deep desire to help people like his brother who struggle with mental health.

“I think if there was a word that best described me in my being, it’s probably being connected. If I’m connected, then I know that I’m in a good state of being. If I’m not, I know I’m probably worried about something, or frustrated about something, or even have an idea of where I want things to go and I need to focus on that. If I’m connected and I’m actually connected to somebody or myself, then I’m usually in a pretty good flow state.” 30:30

09 Mar 2023Healing a Marriage with Mike and Vedya Canales | The Importance of Vulnerability01:06:11
Today our guests are Mike and Vedya Canales. They delve into their relationship, into some of the things that they are doing in the medicine space, and into the energy work that they’re doing. They got into marriage counseling which has taught them some good things, such as sending each other texts saying they’re thinking about them, which is something that they hadn’t been doing for a long time. Mike struggles with anger and Vedya struggles with abandonment, which both create a recipe for disaster, but their therapist has been able to work with them and save their marriage. In the old days, people stayed together because they had the attitude of “this is just the way it is.” But nowadays, the general thinking in society has changed and if someone is unfaithful, the other most likely won’t stay with that person. People now have to choose to work on their marriage and be willing to change if they want things to work.

“In the beginning we had to write down 10 of the most painful memories within our relationship, and my list was pretty full. His wasn’t. So to go to those dark places and to tell him that this pain was residing inside of me and for it to be witnessed and acknowledged was huge for me, and instead of feeling like we were growing apart, we started coming back together.” 29:52

We’re also joined by his father and Scott’s brother, Steve Wright, to go deeper into their story, which we discussed in that previous episode. He tells about his journey of not fitting in or connecting to the activities his father enjoyed and feeling different, experiencing strong same gender attraction since a young age. At first Steve was worried about sharing his story and putting unnecessary pressure on his kids, but now he and Carl see the value of sharing Steve’s journey with the world, emphasizing the importance of being true to oneself and discovering who we truly are. They came into our home and had a beautiful conversation, very vulnerable, very open, talking about their coming together, their relationship, the navigating of different things they’ve gone through and are going through, and we’re so happy to have them. 13 Apr 2023The Spiritual Journey of Michell and Shiloh Powers | Embracing the Unseen01:23:04
Today our guests are Michell and Shiloh Powers, who we’ve known for a few years now and they go deep into their spiritual journey and faith crisis. They talk about moving around the country in different places and trying to find out where they fit in, and then ending up in Hawaii. From a very young age, Michell has been able to see angels and spirits, which she thought was completely normal until she got to the age 6 or so and started talking about it, which is when she realized these experiences were very unique. She suppressed them for many years until her husband finally came to understand what she was experiencing, and then began encouraging her to start sharing these gifts with others. Half of the LDS Church community they were a part of didn’t like what she was sharing and it caused a lot of commotion/division, which ultimately led to Michell and Shiloh just leaving the community altogether. Now they are just living their lives the best way they know how and Michell continues to share her gifts with the world.

We start by listening to Scott explain how he went from a darker part of life to a more deeper sense of understanding who he is and what it means to be his true self. 01 Jun 2023Revisiting the Powerful Message of Hugh Vail with Mustang Medicine | Learning to Understand Your Internal Emotions01:42:03
Revisiting one of our favorite episodes with Hugh Vail and his powerful message. Hugh is hosting ReWilding, a 4-day immersive experience July 6th-9th.

What Mustang Medicine is 10:11
Horses are 99.9% the same as humans 23:45
Avoiding shadow emotions 29:07
Willful surrender 40:25
The rewilding event 47:01

“[Horses] are 99.9% the same as humans. There’s a couple things, obviously they’re on 4 feet, we stand up right, but when you get into the skeleton, they only have 2 more bones than we do because one of the joints in their feet moves differently. Other than that they’re the same, the same digestive system, the same reproductive systems, the same everything. The human body has 11 major systems and horses have the same systems.” 23:45
