E3 might be dead, but we still got a boat load of trailers last weekend and as usual we're here to talk all about it. We all loved the look of Ubisoft's imminent Star Wars Outlaws, which got two enormous gameplay reveals at their conference, while Monster Hunter Wilds cut through with it's unique beasts and intense weather conditions. Not to mention a whole host of surprises we cover at length.

Before all that though, Rob got himself a month of Gamepass to play Ninja Theory's long awaited yet somewhat underwhelming Senua's Saga Hellblade II as well as a whole grab bag of treats also on the service.

Not sure when we'll be back, summer commitments allowing, we may do a spoilercast on Baldur's Gate 3 or something... if Rob & Will ever finish it.

After that disaster-piece of an episode last time around, we thought we'd try super hard to make this one a success, it could be argued even, that we overcompensated. Rob even took one for the team and shelled out an exorbitant sum for a PS5 Pro just to make up for it. He's even had to play Star: Wars: Outlaws in it's newly patched 60FPS + DLC glory. Oh and the new Dragon Age. It's been a tough old time. It really has.

And then there's poor old Marcus, with his time on the Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta only for it to be taken away until it's proper release date early next year, at least Will was man enough to tackle S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 - Heart of Chornobyl.

We're back! After an extended summer break in which Rob actually succumbed to the great videogame staff cull of 2024 and therefore played the most disgusting amount of actual videogames possible.

And who can blame him the summer took so long to actually begin, but begin it finally did and off went Marcus and Will a frolicking...

So yeah - it's mostly Rob who's bringing the games this week, namely Star Wars Outlaws and Space Marine 2. Will & Rob have BOTH played Thank Goodness You're Here though, to varying levels of success.

All this and everything we missed at Gamescom, the Playstation 5 Pro - which will hopefully reverse Sony's fortunes after the disastrous launch(?) of Concord and much much more!

The games are coming thick and fast as we approach the end of another year in gaming. And it only feels right that such an incredible 12 months should come to such a crescendo, with Rob having already completed Spider-Man 2 since last episode and moving straight on to Alan Wake 2. While the last few weeks has seemed a bit quiet on the game release front compared to the bloodbath in February, we've let rather a lot of news stack up this time.

Leading the charge is Sony, with the recently restructured digital membership offerings and a couple of State of Play's covering Hogwarts Legacy and the imminent side-scrolling cousin to Ghost of Tsushima, Trek to Yomi. There's also the wonderful news that Amy Hennig will get a chance to make her Star Wars game finally amidst a truly stacked line-up of entries in that particular franchise currently in development.

As for what we've been playing, Will's chucked a bunch of time into Borderlands spin-off, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, Rob's been using his Easter break to get to some Gamepass indies and Marcus is still making his way through Elden Ring.

We'll be back some time in June once the dust has settled on whatever this year's #NOTE3 Summer of Games turns out to be. We'll be surprised if there isn't at least something Starfield-shaped at the Microsoft/Bethesda showcase announced for June 12. In the meantime, enjoy this latest episode of the #NOTplaying Podcast!

Sorry for the delay on this episode, but we've all been a bit in the wars lately with various bouts of lingering covid and it's been so hot this week that we plain forgot to put the episode out despite it being in the can for a few days...

And it took a while for us to get round to recording our thoughts on what used to consitute E3 in years past, so this one is actually quite brief compared to our usual extensive coverage, but in a year that's seen it's fair share of delays is there really much point in getting excited about games that may not see the light of day for years to come anyway...

Long term listeners won't be surprised that our conversation here gravitates mostly towards the Bethesda/Capcom end of things, but the big news really is that Will finally got hold of a PS5 and that Rob should have put down actual money that he'd get through Horizon Forbiden West before him. And no, Marcus still hasn't finished the Final Fantasy VII remake, despite being really excited for the next installment of the remake trilogy...

We didn't think we had a lot to get into this week, but in a moment of supreme scheduling cock-ups we found ourselves recording actually during Geoff Keighley's Gamescom opening night extravaganza, so the miniscule amount of news we did have was ultimately interrupted by a number of unexcepted megatons, including a release date for Return to Monkey Island, which we will likely be talking about more in our next episode!

Let's not get ahead of ourselves though, while gaming time may have been on backburner slightly during the summer months, we all managed to have a go on the much-anticipated cat adventure, Stray, whilst sampling the many delights of Sony's new (playhole) Playstation Plus/Extra/Premium service and Rob's still plugging away at Horizon Forbidden West. Will he finish it in time for God of War Ragnarok?

Bit of a news-heavy episode this month as we chronicle the inevitable demise of Google Stadia, a slew of announcements from the far-east via Tokyo Game Show, Nintendo Direct & Sony's recent State of Play, while in the west Disney un-delay Midnight Suns and Ubisoft let rip with a absolute cavalcade of information regarding the future of the Assassin's Creed franchise.

It's not often we all find ourselves in the same room these days, especially given recent events, but as luck would have it, Will happened to be in town around the time our latest episode was due, so we were able to sit round a mike round Rob's and shoot the shit in person. Top of the list is probably the recent PSVR2 announcement, followed up with great furiosity by the release of God of War Ragnarök, which at time of recording Rob had only played the first few hours of and was still basking in the warm glow of having recently finished A Plague Tale Requiem. After a few understandably slow years it's quite refreshing to have not 1 but 2 significant game releases this early in the year, not to mention some timely updates from the main players in our delightful hobby.

These haven't been without controversy though, with the games media understandably frustrated by Microsoft's shadowdrop release of Bethesda and Tango Gameworks' rhythm-action mashup, Hi-Fi Rush, while out on the frontlines of Ukraine the deputy minister of digital transformation is seeking a worldwide ban on Mundfish's recent ode to the Bioshocks, Atomic Heart. Because they love peace or something...

All this and the usual updates on other things we've been playing - there's even a little tabletop time this week after Rob's recent indulgent excursion to the Cotswolds!

Games games and more GAMES. That's all we're talking about this week simply because that's all we have time for, aside from perhaps a quick update on the whole Microsoft Activision saga, which likely will continue to rage on for the rest of 2023.

Like I just said though, there's no time for that though on a episode that features likely more than one GOTY contender and there can be no more likely candidate than the 20th entry in Nintendo's storied Zelda franchise, which builds on the previous game, Breath of the Wild in some unique and interesting ways. The same could be said for Respawn's second Jedi game, unlike Capcom's new Street Fighter game, which is arguably it's most unhinged version to date.

Anyway, I barely have time to continue typing this now. I have Zonai devices to catch... or something.

It's that time of year again, when we set our mice and controllers down and have all our disposable downtime taken up with trailers and interviews and gameplay demonstrations of games we won't get to play for month or even years. That's right! It's E3 2018!!! The giant videogame conference that there's absolutely no need to attend in person unless you're one of those lucky people that get's to see Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay behind closed doors... (grumble grumble :( ) Not that we're jealous at all, since we still got to see an awful lot of exciting new stuff across the various conference streams and youTube clips appearing in our feeds all last week.

As the message at the top of the show will inform you, we did go on quite a bit. So long in fact that we've decided to split this into two shows. This first part catches the hype-surf with all the things we're most excited about, while in the second part we get a bit more critical and explore some of the weirder & wilder parts of the show. So look out for that in a few weeks time. Until then, enjoy part 1 of our extensive E3 coverage! :D

It's only February and already we have some games that might be in the conversation for Game of the Year 2019: Apex Legends, Metro: Exodus, Slay the Spire, Tetris 99, Resident Evil 2... We've also had Kingdom Hearts 3, Anthem, Far Cry: New Dawn & Crackdown 3. Good or bad, one thing you can be sure of is that at time of recording, we've #NOT played any of them. We might not be on the bleeding edge of gaming this month, but at least we're honest. So E3 is definitely cancelled this year, but all that news has got to go somewhere and it looks like Geoff Keighley is on the right track, beginning what looks likely to be a regular drip feed of announcements over the entire summer to begin preparing us for the new console generation kicking off at the end of the year.

So on this week's show, we spend most of our time picking over the various morsels that have been demoed (or #NOT) to us so far, including the latest installment of the currently (in our humble opinion) GOTY quality Assassin's Creed series, quite possibly the final PS4 exclusive Samurai Adventure, Ghost of Tsushima and the latest version of the game engine that powers just about everything, Unreal 5.

All this and some rambling about what we're currently playing at the end.

#4 Beyond: Two Souls, Shadowrun Returns & More

This week we talk about some of the games we've been playing, including Quantic Dream's latest interactive drama, Beyond: Two Souls, famously starring Ellen Page and Willem DaFoe. We also dig into the end result of Hairbrained Schemes' wildly successful kickstarter project, Shadowrun Returns, the early access PC version of State of Decay and Patrick dazzles us with tales from the VR future, specifically Euro Truck Simulator 2 - which some are hailing as the true next generation of video games (!?!?!). #5 Call of Duty: Ghosts, Batman: Arkham Origins & more...

It's another dose of gaming news this week as we discuss this year's crop of (almost) annualised sequels, including Call of Duty: Ghosts, Batman: Arkham Origins & Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Of course, we haven't played any of them ourselves, but that's not gonna stop us having an opinion on the general consensus! There's also word from Telltale about both the second season of their acclaimed Walking Dead series and their recently launched Fables game, The Wolf Among Us. There's discussion on what the PS4 can't do and what Motorola's recently announced Project Ara CAN. While the world might be at a standstill, that hasn't made any difference to videogames, especially in a year that sees the launch of a new generation of consoles. One of which, we've finally got our sticky paws on. Well, Rob has at least. Not to be outdone however, Will's been holding up the ubisoft fort, having played a signifant amount of both Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion. Two games that have been very much on our minds for the past year or so.

And isn't it a blessed relief to have so much virtual fun in these perilously harsh times. There is only one landmark yet to come in 2020 and you can bet we'll be back to discuss that particular title before the end of the year, assuming Cyberpunk 2077 will actually come out!?!
