10 Jun 2020The Oft-Borrowed Comedian Kirsty Newton (and Adelaide the Dog)00:31:44

Barbara Nice has been "borrowing" Kirsty Newton to perform comedy and music at her Piggin' Lock-in gigs and realises that she isn't the only comic to do that.
In the past, Kirsty has been "borrowed" by Phil Nicholl, Robin Ince and Paul Merton, but now it's Barbara's turn to talk to her about why she isn't a massive name, how busy a comedian's life was before lockdown and why now is a brilliant time to have a cute new puppy called Adelaide in your life

PLUS, the Donkey Riding song finally gets the accompaniment it deserves. AND A 2nd verse? After all this time? Shocking!

As mentioned on the podcast, Kirsty is performing a singalong on Weds 11th June to raise money for Britain's Carers, which you can view and join in with here:

Here, they reminisce about early gigs they shared together, why bucket lists are a waste of time and Brian's artwork

Brian also managed to turn the tables on Barbara and ask her about her time in a band that should've been bigger than the rolling stones....

09 Jun 2020Through the Pass Door with Dramatist Terry Johnson00:49:07

It's MONDAY in the world of Barbara Nice and Friends (your listening day may vary) and today Barbara is joined by award winning Dramatist Terry Johnson for a view on how the world of theatre is coping through lockdown

Terry was one of the first adopters of the performing on zoom we almost take for granted now, and his show on Ken Loach at the start of lockdown brought Barbara to tears. Intentional tears, because it was GOOD
He also finds time to talk about that transitory moment when you realise what it is you want to really do in life as well as paint the most optimistic view of lockdown easing we've had on the podcast yet.

On today's Podcast, producer Paul has returned to the shed to meet up with today's guest in Person.
Barbara however, is still in her back bedroom but she still manages to have a chat with legendary music promoter Dave Travis, who has promoted gigs all over the 2nd city of Birmingham over the years, including Nirvana, Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene and many more.

They talk about the current situation's impact on the music scene, the Marvellous Mrs Mabel, Lenny Bruce and other classic comedies and they end it by daring each other to do something they wouldn't usually do

She is joined by comedian Craig Deeley to talk Kenneth Williams (and Craig does a mean impression of him to boot), Coronation Street, female comedians that begin with the letter J and having your Twitter jokes become so popular you see them stolen and printed on a T-shirt.

06 Oct 2020His Majesty the Ex-pat Tiptonian, Comedian Chris Stokes 00:39:17

Episode 81 of Mrs Barbara Nice and Friends is part of the Birmingham Comedy Festival and also finds Barbara in an upbeat mood as her own piece of comedy, her Radio 2 sitcom, is being repeated, so she's getting to be heard by the masses again. Happy days!

05 Aug 2020Chasing Shazia Mirza, finding Jean Pickles00:21:14

One Week ago, Mrs Barbara Nice performed a triumphant return to live comedy at the Frog and Bucket club in Manchester.
The gig was supposed to be a new dawn for comedy under the restrictions of the pandemic, but alas it wasn't to be.
The day after it happened, the government announced it was back into lockdown for many parts of the north.

To this end, Barbara intended to celebrate a job well done and commiserate a job well done in isolation with another of the acts from that night, Shazia Mizra. But pinning Shazia down to a time to record a podcast proved to be quite a tricky idea indeed, so instead Barbara shared her own tales from that night as she waited for Shazia to join her...and then someone else appeared down the line....

03 Feb 2021Stewart Lee: King Rocker00:29:37

Like every podcast going this week, Mrs Barbara Nice and Friends was fortunate to be able to chat with comedian Stewart Lee to talk about the film he has in part funded, produced, interviewed and promoted along with Michael Cummings (Brass Eye, Toast of London): King Rocker

The film focuses on Birmingham alternative rock band "The Nightingales" and Stewart chats to Barbara about the making of the film as well as their shared history in the band's early days in Brum when Stewart was a fledgling standup and Barbara was part of her own groups the Surprises and The Ever-Readys

They manage to unearth some stories about their shared past on the Birmingham music scene unique to them as well as working out how many curries it takes to make a film and how Frank Skinner's memories of being in the band made everyone question their collective memories.

You can watch King Rocker on Sky Arts on 2 consecutive saturdays (6th/13th) at 9pm
(Freeview Channel 11) and on its catch up service thereafter.

Barbara Nice (Barbara as in Streisand, Nice as in the Biscuit) returns to Producer Paul's shed for her second (dos) Podcast and is chuffed to learn her podcast has become a 5 star hit, based on the ratings on Itunes and other podcast places

This week, she invites new friends Sophia J.Griffin and Danny de Reybekill to the Shed to talk about public transport, clicking at the end of spoken word performances and questioning why we have to rate everything these days?

THAT SAID, Barbara would love it if you rated our podcast "Smashing" by giving it 5 stars in your podcast app.

You don't have to, but it's better than that taxi ride you had the other day eh?

She is joined on the podcast by her support acts on the night, local “up ‘N comers” the Good Kids and Birmingham Indie legends The Bank Accounts

Merry Christmas to all Friends of Barbara Nice and she hopes you also have a piggin’ fabulous new year!

20 Feb 20191: Series 2 Numero Dos: Comedian Stuart Goldsmith and the mystery of the lost podcast00:39:42

Welcome back to Barbara's world, FOBs! (Friends of Barbara)

For her first podcast of series 2, Barbara Nice invited "Comedians Comedian" Stuart Goldsmith to producer Paul's shed at Brum Radio and a great time they had recording her first podcast of 2019

THEN, disaster!

The shed threw a fit and decided not to record the podcast, leading to a now legendary "missing podcast" that was no doubt a treat, but will never be heard by any ears.

Never fear, Barbara and Stuart ploughed on and recorded again, so you'll join them mid fury at Producer Paul and his equipment leading to their time being wasted

But still a jolly time was had discussing comedy, interviewing, Stuart's luscious hair, podcast itself and Stuart's upcoming gigs in Bromsgrove and his podcast gig which you can see live at the Birmingham Town Hall during "Podfest"

That sounds like a lot for a half an hour podcast, but we've barely scratch the surface of Emma's experiences.

They also consider what it would take to make you protest in this time of protests making the news, Karen's choice of breakfast and social media echo chambers. Are we now at an age we can be nostalgic about the "good old days" of social media?

17 May 20196: Numero Seis: With Localise West Midlands Karen McCarthy00:22:07

What shop would YOU open if you had the opportunity?

How many chickens is worthwhile?

How nostalgic can you be over meeting a goat on holiday?

All these questions are pondered by Mrs Barbara Nice and this week's guest, Karen McCarthy from Localise West Midlands. Or mainly, the number 63 Bus as far as Mrs Nice is concerned

But what do Localise do, and are local things better than non-local things? Barbara thinks she has the answer.

Also the dreaded B-word gets a mention. But is it buses, Brexit or Bees? Only listening will reveal the answer.

And you are welcome to leave us a review and rating, or indeed ask Barbara a question like what would your idea be of a perfect shop if you could open one, or one of the many other myriad of other questions contained in this month's show. Ta kids!
