16 Mar 2022Antioxidants for Cancer with Oncological Pioneer Dr. Keith Block00:52:12

In this episode of The Moss Report Podcast, Ralph Moss talks integrative oncology with Keith Block, MD.

It is difficult to imagine the field of integrative oncology without pioneer, Dr. Keith Block. Based in the Chicago area for over 40 years ago, Block and his wife, Penny Block, PhD, innovated the use of the best of “alternative medicine” for cancer treatments combined with standard practices of the time. Fast forward to today and he has established himself as a preeminent scholar on the use of foods and food supplements for cancer in combination with conventional treatments.

Antioxidants in particular have been the source of considerable disagreement in the scientific community, with some doctors claiming that they undermine the effectiveness of conventional treatments. However, Block has shown through his scholarly research and his own medical practice that there is no pattern of a negative impact on patients’ health, and in fact, show a variety of profound benefits.

The  Block Center for Integrative Cancer Treatment in Skokie fights cancer by addressing the underlying molecular accidents that initiate and support it. A recognized pioneer in integrative cancer treatment, the Block Center sets the standard in the U.S. for the integration of science-based strategies that, together, can help you beat the odds and put “life over cancer” (the title of his book).

Block is a graduate of the University of Florida in Gainesville and the University of Miami School of Medicine in Coral Gables. He did his residency at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago. He was a disciple of Robert S. Mendelsohn, MD, author of Confessions of a Medical Heretic. Block is the founding editor-in-chief of the medical journal, Integrative Cancer Therapies, and is the author of 94 PubMed-indexed journal articles.

01 Sep 2023Vitamin D & Cancer00:46:35

In this pivotal episode, Dr. Moss and his son, Ben, shed light on new insights into Vitamin D's role in cancer prevention, based on data from a study published in 2019. While the original research concluded that Vitamin D had no significant impact on cancer incidence, a meticulous reevaluation of the same data has revealed something crucial: Body Mass Index (BMI) plays a significant role in the effectiveness of Vitamin D supplementation for cancer prevention. Specifically, those with a 'normal' BMI showed a significant reduction in the incidence of advanced and metastatic cancers. Dr. Moss and Ben explore why these game-changing results haven't received the media attention they deserve and what this could mean for natural cancer prevention strategies. Tune in to this eye-opening discussion that presents the science you can't afford to ignore!

11 Aug 2020Dwight McKee Discusses the Importance of Immunotherapy00:45:56

Dwight McKee, MD, is board-certified in medical oncology, hematology, nutrition, and integrative and holistic medicine. He discusses his lifetime of experience in the cancer world with Dr. Moss.

For more information about Moss Reports, visit mossreports.com

There are at present no drugs approved specifically to kill [Cancer Stem Cell]s. But, starting around 2015, scientists identified about two dozen natural agents (from foods and herbs) that killed CSCs. Of these, five stand out. Drs. Dwight McKee and Cord Naujokat have called these the “Big Five”:

  1. Curcumin is derived from the root stem (rhizome) of the turmeric plant. There are over 5,700+ articles on the topic of curcumin and cancer in  PubMed, the U.S. government’s index of medical journal entries, with new ones appears at a rate of twice every calendar day.
  2. Genistein and other Isoflavones from soybeans and soy products, as well as red clover, and coffee (over 4,712 PubMed articles)
  3. Resveratrol from red grapes skins, plums, berries (3,654 articles)
  4. EGCG (Epigallocatechin-3-gallate), the main solid ingredient in green tea (1,872 PubMed articles)
  5. Sulforaphane and isothiocyanates from cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and broccoli sprouts (1,085 articles)

These “Big Five” are the subject of around 17,000 scientific journal articles relating to cancer. This refutes the notion that such treatments are a fringe phenomenon.

According to McKee and Naujokat’s article in the February 27, 2020, Current Medicinal Chemistry:

“Since current cancer therapies fail to eradicate CSCs, leading to cancer recurrence and progression, targeting of CSCs with phytochemicals such as curcumin, EGCG, sulforaphane, resveratrol and genistein…may offer a novel therapeutic strategy against cancer.” (14)

25 Jan 2021Can Cancer Cells Become Normal Again? 00:46:18

In this episode of The Moss Report Podcast, Mary Hardy, MD, and David Wales, talk with our host, Ralph W. Moss, Ph.D. about recent research on an unusual treatment: fermented wheat germ extract (FWGE).

Recent research has shown FWGE can reduce the abnormal metabolism of cancer cells. This raises the prospect that FWGE might heal cancer cells by reversing the “Warburg Effect,” thus converting a glucose-fermenting cell back into a normal cell.

The research into wheat germ has a long history and a promising future, as scientific papers show verifiable results and FWGE becomes more widely available.

Mary Hardy, MD, is board-certified in internal medicine and a specialist in botanical and integrative medicine. She has been combining complementary and alternative therapies with Western medicine for over thirty years in both her clinical practice and research projects. She also has a long-standing interest in patients who have shown exceptional responses during cancer care.

18 Dec 2020Cancer As A Metabolic Disease with Thomas N. Seyfried00:55:35

Thomas N. Seyfried, Ph.D., is the author of “Cancer as a Metabolic Disease,” a work that has revolutionized our understanding of cancer metabolism.

Prof. Seyfried’s 45 years of laboratory work has revived Otto Warburg’s thesis that cancer is a disease of the mitochondria, the energy-generating part of the cell. Prof. Seyfried has devised unique animal models to explain the processes of inflammation, blood vessel formation, and lipid biochemistry. He is also mainly responsible for the renewed interest in calorie restriction, fasting, and ketogenic diets. Recommended parsley intake:

Approximately 0.79 tablespoons or 2.37 teaspoons of chopped fresh parsley would provide 10 mg of apigenin. TAKE about one tablespoon OR THE EQUIVALENT AMT. OF DRIED PARSLEY (SEE BELOW) TWICE PER DAY.

For 0.69 grams of dried parsley flakes: 0.69 grams / 0.8 grams per teaspoon ≈ 0.86 teaspoons So, approximately one teaspoon 0.86 teaspoons of dried parsley flakes would provide 10 mg of apigenin. OR TAKE THIS TWICE PER DAY.

NOTE: PATIENTS IN THE GERMAN STUDY ALSO RECEIVED EGCG (GREEN TEA) AT THE SAME TIME.

Based on the average amount of EGCG in one gram of Japanese Sencha green tea leaves (47.3 milligrams), and assuming that you're using one teaspoon (about 2.5 grams) of tea leaves to brew 6 ounces of tea, you can expect to get around 118.25 milligrams of EGCG in your cup of tea.

22 Mar 2021Cancer Journey: Doug and Rochelle Burnett’s Battle with Gastroesophageal Junction Cancer00:42:18

In this episode of The Moss Report Podcast, Doug and Rochelle Burnett of Des Moines, Iowa share their journey through a cancer diagnosis.

Doug was diagnosed with Stage III cancer of the GE Junction in March of 2019. Based in Iowa, they were given the treatment plan of radiation, chemo, and eventually surgery. Pursuing other options, he and Rochelle did research on what else was out there. They ended up at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas where Doug was given a grim prognosis. Stage IV and without much hope, the doctors didn’t have much to say to him in terms of working towards health.

With some help from Dr. Moss, they found Dr. Robert Nagourney of the Nagourney Institute. Dr. Nagourney prescribed a custom chemo cocktail, which, when combined, saw Doug’s chances of survival greatly improved. Add to this some diet and lifestyle changes and a healthy helping of love, support, optimism, and determination, Doug Burnett is surviving, and thriving, well beyond any previous prognosis.

14 Jul 2021Cancer Journey: Life is a Ride00:29:17

In this episode of The Moss Report, Dr. Ralph Moss and co-host Rachael Moss interview Chris Joseph about his journey with cancer.

In October 2016, at age 59, Chris Joseph learned he had third-stage pancreatic cancer. In the midst of the panic and tremendous fear that immediately ensued, he followed the doctor's orders without hesitation and underwent chemotherapy.

Months of chemotherapy poisoned his body and nearly destroyed his spirit. With no immediate plan in mind, he fired his oncologist and embarked on an alternative path of recovery, including both natural and Western medicine immunotherapy--one that, against all odds, opened his eyes and healed him, both physically and spiritually.

Over the last 33 years, Chris Joseph has started and managed three environmental consulting businesses, launched two fan-funded music record companies, and founded a non-profit charitable foundation. He has also dabbled in philanthropy, songwriting, magazine writing, and he is currently studying for his real estate license. He also adds 'author' to his list of accomplishments with his book, Life is a Ride, a tale of a man that turned a potential death sentence into a life embrace. A native of Los Angeles, Chris has lived in Southern California all of his life. He has two teenage boys, a wonderful girlfriend, and enjoys traveling, hiking, sports, music, and connecting with other people.

Considerations & Limitations

 • Most research is preclinical, meaning studies have been done in cells and animal models, but not yet proven in large human trials.

 • Potential side effects: Though generally safe at prescribed doses, ivermectin is not an FDA-approved cancer treatment, and its effects in cancer patients require further study.

While early studies indicate that ivermectin has potential anticancer properties, more clinical trials are needed to establish its safety and efficacy in humans. Patients interested in alternative treatments should always consult with their healthcare provider before considering off-label uses.
