07 Nov 2019 | Maryland recap and bye week outlook | 01:29:55
This week's lone football episode, we went longer than usual, breaking down our two game balls, four takeaways from Michigan's 38-7 win over Maryland and seven questions about the Wolverines' final four weeks of the season.
Our game balls both went to two defensive players — one a key leader on the team and the other an unsung hero in the game — while we acknowledge some key players at several positions in the contest.
Our four takeaways include three positives and one negative for the Wolverines. We credit Michigan's coaching staff for keeping the team on progress, note that the Wolverines were able to run the ball effectively, look at Michigan's ability to stop surrendering big plays on defense and question whether the Wolverines made a mistake not throwing the ball more.
Our seven questions cover a wide range of topics. We break down why the offense looks different, try to make sense of the lack of downfield pass attempts, consider the defense's progress and talent relative to recent seasons, what Michigan needs to improve upon during the bye week, how the Big Ten can give teams like Maryland a chance and what we think of Jim Harbaugh's proposed 11-team College Football Playoff.

We take a peek at the Big Ten standings and potential seeding scenarios, then close with a bracketology breakdown, looking at potential seeding, and how the next four games and Big Ten Tournament can change that.

11 Jul 2019 | Underrated players and qualms with the recruiting process | 00:53:26
Answering two questions from our listeners, we discuss Michigan football players we feel are underrated along with things we might consider changing about the recruiting process.
First, we look at which Wolverines aren't getting enough hype or attention. The list ranged from players stepping into new starting roles, surprise contenders in position battles, players who redshirted last season, who were switching positions or didn't get a fair shake from fans last season. After breaking down our initial choices for most underrated, we also dig into other contenders and explore how a player could become overlooked and underrated.
Then, we look at things we would change about the football recruiting process. Though an informal discussion, some of the issues discuss include contact periods, how frequently coaches can contact players, the oddity of soft commitments and non-committable offers, the recruiting calendar and more.

18 Aug 2021 | 2021 Michigan football season preview: Offensive line | 00:29:30
Continuing our positional season preview series, we take a look at Michigan's offensive line, previewing the position battles, depth chart, strengths, weaknesses, questions and making a bold prediction on the Wolverines' front for the 2021 season.
We begin by taking a look at position battles, as Michigan returns seven players who started up front in 2021, leading to technically three position battles. We assess the competition level at each spot, how the Wolverines could move layers around to truly come up with a 'best five,' and why Michigan may wait longer than usual to decide its starting five up front.
We then turn to the group's strengths, looking at the line's depth, size and potential ability to move the line of scrimmage more this year than last season. We also look at weaknesses up front, including some pass protection concerns and a lack of experience and proven production. We then offer our biggest questions about the group, then make prediction for the line's outlook this fall.

12 Feb 2020 | Reacting to Michigan State's new coaching hire | 00:35:45
Following the news that Colorado head coach Mel Tucker had accepted the job to take over Michigan State’s head-coaching vacancy, we dissect what the hire means for the Spartans and, indirectly, the Wolverines.
First, we look at how good of a hire Tucker is for Michigan State. We break down his background at Michigan State, Ohio State, at big-time programs such as Alabama, Georgia, LSU and in the NFL, and opine on what he brings to East Lansing after one season with the Buffaloes. We also look at the optics of the hire, including whether Tucker was in the wrong for initially saying no to the job, the timing and how the situation changed so quickly for the Spartans.
Next, we look at what kind of program Tucker is inheriting. We look at what kind of recruiting impact Tucker will have, how and how much that will impact Michigan, the importance of Tucker’s offensive coordinator hire and what the next two years can and should look like for the Spartans on the field.

29 Nov 2020 | Key talking points from Michigan's loss to Penn State | 01:21:07
In this episode, we discuss the biggest talking points stemming from Michigan's 27-17 loss to Penn State.
We open by discussing the fan opinion that Jim Harbaugh has lost Michigan's locker room. We look at why the Wolverines lost on so many "effort" plays, how significant that is and what that could mean to where the team is at in the season mentally.
Next, we look at the impact an expected change at defensive coordinator could have in 2021, and how many of Michigan's problems on the defensive side of the ball can be traced to the coordinator as opposed to other factors.
We then turn to the offensive side of the ball, looking at Josh Gattis' 19-game tenure with the Wolverines. We discuss the offense's youth, how excusable that is and other observations from Michigan's offense.
We then look at the validity of Michigan's injury situation as an excuse for results, and debate where Saturday's loss ranks among the Wolverines' worst performances of the season.
Finally, we close with our "air it out" section, as Lorenz shows sympathy to Michigan fans while Shaw ponders how the staples of Jim Harbaugh football have disappeared.

16 Mar 2024 | What went wrong in Juwan Howard's Michigan tenure, and what's next for the Wolverines in their head-coaching search | 01:44:18
In a loaded basketball episode, Zach Shaw and Steve Lorenz break down a number of key topics pertaining to Michigan firing Juwan Howard, and what’s next for the Wolverines’ program.
They open with a look at how Juwan Howard’s once-promising coaching tenure went so south, so quickly. They discuss roster management, a loss of momentum, defensive struggles and late-game woes, as well as where Howard could have improved in the offseason. They then pivot to look at what Michigan can learn from the last five years, and what can be applied to the Wolverines’ head-coaching search. They look at how a roster can be constructed at Michigan, why a coach used to “doing more with less” can shine in Ann Arbor and why college coaching experience is critical to whomever the Wolverines choose.
In the second half of the episode, they take a look at some of the top coaching candidates. They look at unlikely, but worthy candidates they would call first, realistic candidates that make the most sense, and some dark-horse candidates they are intrigued by. They also spend a lot of time discussing a potential return by John Beilein.
They close with more discussion about how Howard’s tenure turned so sour, and discuss a number of smaller topics along the way.

11 Aug 2021 | 2021 Michigan football season preview: Quarterback | 00:27:52
We kick off our season preview series, a collection of shorter episodes that look at each of Michigan's position groups ahead of the 2021 season. In our first episode, we look at the quarterback position, assessing the group's depth chart, position battles, biggest strength, biggest weakness, biggest question mark and make one bold prediction for the group in 2021.
At the quarterback position, we begin by looking at the position battle behind Cade McNamara, where JJ McCarthy and Alan Bowman will compete for second-string snaps. We go over what all three quarterbacks bring to the table, as well as what the Wolverines are looking for in a second-string quarterback.
We then look at the group's strengths and weaknesses. Shaw points to the group's productive high school careers, noting that Michigan is quietly more experienced at quarterback than usual, though he acknowledges that the position group might not be as physically gifted as it has been in year's past and questions Michigan's 2021 ceiling at quarterback. Lorenz lauds the group's throwing talent, while questioning the position's comfort in a high-caliber college game. Dan Villari's unique role is also discussed.
We close with our predictions, and assess what expectations around McNamara can be in 2021.

13 Mar 2025 | Steady Droppin' Dimes - Will Big 10 Tourneys be resets for Michigan men's and women's basketball | 02:07:27
Sam Webb, Devin Gardner and Daniel Horton look towards the Big Ten Basketball Tournaments to see if the Michigan Men's and Women's basketball teams can reset their teams and their mental approaches and make deep runs through March. The episode begins, however, with conversation with Ann Arbor Sports Commission Director Meaghan Hughes and NAIA Sports Director Fred Aubuchon about the upcoming NAIA cheer and dance national championships March 28th-29th at Eastern Michigan’s Game Above Center. The discussion The discussion then turned to the Michigan women's and men's basketball teams. The women's team, despite losing key players and facing top-tier competition, showed promise, particularly against USC in the Big 10 tournament, where they led until the fourth quarter. The men's team, on the other hand, is struggling, losing four of their last six games, including three straight. They need to improve fundamentals like rebounding and ball handling. The conversation centered on the strategic decisions and challenges faced by a basketball team, particularly in tournament play versus conference play. Daniel and Devin debated the effectiveness of trigger plays versus set plays, noting that triggers are more effective in quick turnaround tournaments but can be predictable in conference play. They also discussed the team's reliance on flow basketball and the difficulty of balancing set plays. The conversation shifted to individual player performance, highlighting Tre Donaldson's struggles with shot making and defense, and the need for him to contribute more consistently. The segment concluded with a heated debate on LeBron James' reaction to Stephen A. Smith's comments about his son, Bronny, emphasizing the complexities of father-son dynamics in sports.

18 Nov 2019 | A closer look at Michigan's blowout win over MSU | 01:09:08
Following our typical 2-4-7 format, we break down two game balls, four key takeaways and answer seven questions stemming from the matchup.
Our game balls are rather obvious, and serve as the first time both game balls went to members of Michigan’s passing game. We discuss the two players’ career games, and what it means.
Our takeaways are more opponent-specific than usual, but we look at Michigan State’s meteoric decline from its peak in 2013-15, why maybe fans shouldn’t read too much into Michigan’s success Saturday and the recruiting impact a dominant win in the rivalry can have.
Our questions tackle both big picture and smaller topics surrounding the team. We debate Michigan’s win over Notre Dame vs. its win over Michigan State in terms of changing perception, look at the Spartans’ conservative game plan, ponder if Michigan has an issue throwing the ball too low, discuss if the Wolverines can still have a “successful” season, look at Michigan’s kicking improvements, the offense’s preparedness against Ohio State and which oft-criticized player made fans eat their words the most.

09 Jun 2021 | Michigan football mailbag: Defensive front, Harbaugh's leash, offseason review and more | 01:22:55
In a wide-ranging mailbag episode, we discuss a number of key topics that the Michigan faithful are curious about as the program enters the summer.
We begin with a look at Michigan's front seven, and where things stand after the Wolverines lost out on USC DT transfer Jay Toia. We identify players who could change that narrative, as well as what position groups might be limited in their impact this season.
We then turn to the ever-popular question about Jim Harbaugh's leash at Michigan. We discuss why the Wolverine coaching staff's leash might not be as long as the contract extension suggests, what it would take for Harbaugh to be fired, what to make of Harbaugh's offseason changes both in the coaching staff and recruiting staff and more on where things stand.
During the 80-minute episode, we also look at Alan Bowman's potential in the quarterback battle, what stage of grief Michigan fans seem to be in, how our view of offseason rumors have changed and plenty more.

25 Jun 2021 | What potential NIL compensation means for Michigan, and a preview of the Wolverines' ground game | 01:04:44
In this episode, we spend the bulk of it discussing how potential changes to NIL compensation impacts Michigan, and preview what to expect in the weeks and months ahead. We also take an early preview of the Wolverines' running game, and discuss if it's the strength of Michigan's team right now.
We begin by looking at NIL compensation, which allows players to profit off of their own brand. We discuss the NCAA's (somewhat reluctant) decision to allow players to make money in this way, and how it impacts the Wolverines. We look at the current and future impact it has had on the recruiting trail, how Michigan must capitalize, and how it could impact the Wolverines' recruiting expectations.
We then look at the changes' impacts on current players. We discuss concerns from a coach's standpoint, as well as how players are going to have to navigate this added wrinkle to the college experience. We also take a look at what kind of athletes will benefit the most from these rules, and how it could change our jobs.
In the second half of the episode, we discuss Michigan's running back and offensive line position groups, and assess if this is the strength of the Wolverines' roster. We look at how Michigan's experienced, big and talented offensive line can take a step forward in 2021, and asses how the running back room shakes out after a season with several departures and arrivals. We discuss where each position group still has to develop, but also look at potential for the two areas of Michigan's offense.

09 Jan 2021 | Reacting to Jim Harbaugh's contract extension | 00:45:00
In this episode, we discuss the Michigan football team and Jim Harbaugh agreeing to a five year contract that will extend Harbaugh through the 2025 season.
First we discuss the simple question of if this was the best choice for Michigan. We look at the financial situation behind the extension, why firing Harbaugh and hiring a new head coach may not have been as seamless as many think and what to make of the extended timeline.
Then, we start to dig into the tea leaves presented by the extension. We discuss how we interpret the greatly reduced buyout, why it might point to Michigan and Harbaugh viewing 2021 as the ultimatum year and why Harbaugh might have agreed to it.
Finally, we look at the biggest question mark of it all, and ponder if Harbaugh and Michigan backed into the deal, and if they can legitimately be all-in on the extension moving forward, or if there is still tension and discontent on either side.

03 Oct 2019 | Michigan-Iowa crossover preview with Zach Shaw and David Eickholt | 00:43:43

25 Nov 2019 | First look: Five questions about Michigan-Ohio State | 01:04:53
Rather than dissecting Michigan's 39-14 win over Indiana, we follow Aidan Hutchinson's advice and turn our attention to the Wolverines' upcoming matchup with No. 2 Ohio State. In the first of two preview episodes, we break down five early questions about the matchup.
To begin, we look at Shea Patterson's rapid ascent, and how much he has closed the gap on Justin Fields in recent weeks. We also look at what makes Fields elite, and discuss if there is a way to contain him.
We next look at if Michigan's defense is better-equipped to handle Ryan Day's offense this season than last, and how the Wolverines could contain the Buckeyes.
In the longest component of the show, we break down why Michigan does seem hungrier about this season's matchup, debate whether that matters, look at how Ohio State created such a big gap in the rivalry and how it can ever be closed again.
We close with each of our early keys to the game.

18 Jul 2019 | Ten things to watch at Big Ten Media Days | 00:28:55
In a solo episode from Zach Shaw, he previews his coverage at Big Ten Media Days, outlining 10 things that he's watching at the annual event in Chicago.
First, he looks at five non-Michigan things that he's watching, previewing what he is expecting to see from new Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and his thoughts on the rivalry and taking over a storied program. He also previews one of Jim Delany's final appearances as Big Ten commissioner, briefly looking back at Delany's tenure and what to make of it.
He also previews a likely major discussion point, at how the Big Ten approaches its lack of recent playoff success, and what realignment or playoff expansion could do. Shaw also discusses what appears to be a culture change among Big Ten coaches, and previews what the impression of the apparently league favorite Wolverines might be among players, coaches and other media members.
Then, Shaw switches to Michigan-centric topics, looking at what Jim Harbaugh might have to say, some of the position battles and players to keep an eye on and other stories he'll be looking for while in Chicago.

In the second two-thirds of the episode, they discuss Michigan’s upcoming road trip to Maryland. They discuss keys and predictions for both the Wolverines’ offense and defense, Michigan’s pursuit of 1,000 wins, what the Wolverines can do beyond win to set themselves up for next week and make their score predictions for the game.
