EP 76 | Long Live The King & What Will The New Season Bring?
01:00:39
This week we kicked things off by debating the doors v wheels argument, before ripping the lid on our AFL predictions for the upcoming AFL season as well as sharing some of the peoples big calls. Shane was a hero to so many (especially Jake) he was an entertainer, an ‘elite athlete’ and a cultural icon that transcended the game of cricket more than anyone else ever has or could dream to. Over the last week there has been a lot said about the great man - but we believe the most fitting description of the great man is simple: “Warnie was Warnie” and we wouldn’t have wanted him any other way.

This week we were fortunate enough to chat with one of our biggest idols in Matt Okine, about all things Triple J, Stand up comedy, and the challenges of making a TV show based on one of the most gut wrenching times of your life.
Hear stories about the most orange vomit Matt has ever seen, how he did a charity gig for his biggest online bully and how making a tv show about an ex who cheated on you with your best mate is the best way to turn lemons into lemonade.
Plus Matt eloquently explains how he dealt with the loss of his Mum at age 12, how his relationship with his dad improved drastically over time and how Matt is navigating the role of now being a (rather lax/fun) father himself.
There are few words to describe how much we enjoyed our chat with Matt, but to put it simply; over the course of an hour, a bloke we didn’t think we could love any more, simply proved us wrong.
This week we were beyond stoked to have an idol of ours in Matt Okine join us on the pod!
You might know Matt Okine from Triple J, where he hosted the "Breakfast Show" alongside Alex Dyson during 2014 - 2016, or as an actor and creator of his show on stan “The Other Guy”, or maybe as writer from his book “Being Black and Chicken & Chips” or maybe you may even know Matt from his most recent role as Arthur Beare in the brand new version of a classic show on the ABC “Mother and Son.” …Or maybe like us, you were introduced to Matt Okine as a comedian.
No matter how you know of Matt Okine, it’s safe to say, his ability to perfectly blend personal anecdotes, astute observations, and tackle complex subjects with humor and empathy has set him apart as a remarkable storyteller with audiences of all ages.
We were fortunate enough to see Matt for the first time in 2015, where he performed his “The Other Guy” comedy set in Perth, a show that still remains one, if not, the best show we have ever seen and with that - we have followed every project he has been a part of very closely since. Few individuals have had the same impact that Matt’s work has had on us and to have had the opportunity to chat with him, is an experience the three of us won’t forget.
