13 Jul 2023VOIVOD's MICHEL 'AWAY' LANGEVIN & RAVEN's JOHN GALLAGHER00:33:22

VOIVOD drummer Michel "Away" Langevin and RAVEN frontman John Gallagher join us on this week's Loaded Radio Podcast.

This week's edition of THE LOADED RADIO PODCAST features two veterans within the genre of heavy metal. Michel "Away" Langevin from Canadian experimental thrashers VOIVOD as well as frontman John Gallagher from New Wave Of British Heavy Metal icons RAVEN.

In 2023, VOIVOD are commemorating their remarkable 40-year journey with a momentous milestone: the release of the special anniversary studio album titled "Morgöth Tales," which arrived on July 21 through Century Media Records. This album, once again recorded and mixed by Francis Perron at RadicArt Studio, mastered by Maor Appelbaum, and produced by VOIVOD themselves, showcases a captivating collection of fresh studio re-recordings. The band's current lineup carefully handpicked these selections, delving into their extensive and diverse musical catalog from 1984 to 2003. Additionally, "Morgöth Tales" features an all-new song and the eponymous title track, adding another layer of excitement.

Hailing from Jonquière, Québec, VOIVOD is a prominent Canadian heavy metal band. Over the years, their musical style has undergone various transformations since their formation in the early 1980s. Initially rooted in speed metal, VOIVOD incorporated elements of progressive metal and thrash metal, forging a distinct and innovative metal sound. They are widely recognized as one of the "big four" Canadian thrash metal bands, alongside SACRIFICE, RAZOR, and ANNIHILATOR. Throughout their illustrious career, VOIVOD has attained significant influence and acclaim, making them one of the most revered metal bands from the 1980s. Their impact has transcended boundaries, garnering praise and inspiring numerous bands across a wide array of genres.

The second portion of the show features a talk with John Gallagher from RAVEN who have their new studio album "All Hell's Breaking Loose" available now.

RAVEN demonstrated incredible productivity from the early '80s to the late '90s, consistently delivering a new album every year or two. Following a hiatus that lasted a decade, they resumed releasing fresh material in 2010. Their latest offering, titled "All Hell's Breaking Loose," proudly stands as their fifteenth studio album.

The foundation of RAVEN has always rested upon the talented Gallagher brothers: John on vocals and bass, and Mark on guitar. Throughout their journey, the band has seen several drummers come and go, but since 2018, they have been accompanied by the skilled Mike Heller (known for his work with FEAR FACTORY and MALIGNANCY). Heller's presence on board marks his second album collaboration with RAVEN, with "All Hell's Breaking Loose" being recorded at his studio in Los Angeles.

In 2023, RAVEN's musical direction remains faithful to the path they carved during the glorious era of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM). However, they harness their decades of experience and combine it with modern production techniques when crafting the songs that adorn "All Hell's Breaking Loose." This fusion allows them to uphold their musical roots while embracing the advancements of the present day.

19 May 2022JAMES LABRIE From DREAM THEATER00:26:19
The latest edition of THE LOADED RADIO PODCAST is a special one as we sit down with DREAM THEATER singer James Labrie.

In the discussion, James discusses his new solo album, "Beautiful Shade Of Grey", which arrives on May 20 via Inside Out Music.

James Labrie's fourth solo effort sees him collaborating with guitarist/bassist/composer Paul Logue (EDEN's CURSE) as well as his son, Chance Labrie on drums, guitarist Marco Sfogl and keyboardist Christian “Chrism” Pulkkinen in a sonically stunning journey of beauty, loss and the human condition.

A press release reads: 'Going beyond the thematic and personal elements, for James, ‘Beautiful Shade of Grey’ presented an opportunity to capture the love and enthusiasm he feels for great songwriting through a vehicle that wasn’t tied to the same rules and architypes of his other projects. Reflecting on artists that he’s been drawn to over the years, ranging from JOURNEY, FOREIGNER and GINO VANELLI to CHEVELLE, BIG WRECK and PRINCE, the common thread that’s kept him coming back to them was their eclectic, unpredictable output.'

“All these artists had versality, and I think it’s primarily because of this that they maintained my attention. They always, I believe, pushed themselves to ask, ‘what else can I do?’”

James as well discusses DREAM THEATER's recent GRAMMY win for the song 'The Alien" off the band's latest album 'A View From The Top Of The World', expanding his creative wings and his current relationship with former DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy.

30 Jul 2024Former FFDP Guitarist JASON HOOK Talks FLAT BLACK & GOJIRA Opens The 2024 Olympics00:27:17

Jason Hook: From FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH to FLAT BLACK

Former FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH guitarist Jason Hook is making waves with his new project, FLAT BLACK. The seasoned musician has traded the familiar for the unknown, launching into a new chapter of his career.

The band's debut LP, "Dark Side Of The Brain", was produced by Hook and Chris Collier (KORN) and was recorded at both Jason‘s home studio and The Hideout Recording Studio in Las Vegas.

The album features a track called “Nothing To Some” which features guest vocalist Corey Taylor (SLIPKNOT) and stands as a rager that is destined to land on year-end “best of” lists and in repeat rotation in your preferred music listening service. Bolstered by anthemic riffs, battering ram percussion, and full-on rhythmic thrust, Taylor‘s vicious vocals sound as though he gargled with razor blades and battery acid before spewing his parts, and it’s a beautiful thing. All of that, combined with a classic metallic influence that is threaded through the song, makes “Nothing To Some” a seriously definitive moment for FLAT BLACK.

Hook is joined in FLAT BLACK by singer Wes Horton, bassist Nick Diltz and drummer Rob Pierce.

Horton was introduced to music at age 13, thanks to his sister and Guitar Hero. He honed his vocal chops by playing in local bands and making online videos. Various music industry friends and acquaintances would become the connective tissue between himself and HookHorton knew he wanted to be a frontman, and FLAT BLACK afforded him that opportunity. Wes loves the fact that his bandmates prioritize songcraft — and that allows him to be the singer he has always wanted to be.

Diltz, who was born and raised in Los Angeles, is the son of a legendary rock music photographer who brought him to concerts during his formative years. He recalls being inspired by watching a VHS video of U2 performing at legendary venue Red Rocks. Seeing fans clamoring for a piece of Bono in the footage is a vision that never left his head. This first exposure to the power of a true rock icon solidified Nick‘s destiny as a live performer.

Pierce hails from Nashville, a.k.a. Music City. His dad was a race car driver and his grandfather was a pastor. He grew up racing go karts and at first, wanted to follow in his dad’s footsteps until he joined the fourth-grade band and was bitten by the music bug. He chose the snare drum over the saxophone and from that moment on, music was the only thing that mattered. Rob got his first drum kit at age 11, which he set up in his dad’s car shop. He learned to play his instrument next to 1,000 horsepower engines, which influences his highly energetic style to this day.

In this exclusive interview, Jason Hook opens up about his departure from FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, his feelings toward his former band, the inspiration behind FLAT BLACK, and his vision for the future.

Also in the podcast this week, Loaded Radio's Scott Penfold discusses GOJIRA performing at the opening ceremonies of the 2024 Olympics in Paris and the backlash that ensued afterwards. By some people at least.

The band’s explosive rendition of the revolutionary song “Ah! Ça Ira,” complete with pyrotechnics and a striking visual representation of a beheaded Marie Antoinette, sparked a wave of controversy.

Critics, many with religious affiliations, were quick to label the performance “satanic,” pointing to the dramatic imagery and the song’s revolutionary themes. Social media was ablaze with accusations of the West “worshipping the devil,” with some going as far as to claim that the performance was evidence of a satanic takeover.

So get ready to dive deep into the mind of a guitar icon with Jason Hook and take a closer look at GOJIRA's explosive Olympics performance on this week's edition of The Loaded Radio Podcast.

15 Mar 2024NEW YEARS DAY’s ASH COSTELLO Talks ‘Half Black Heart’, RAMMSTEIN After Parties And The WWE on THE LOADED RADIO PODCAST00:22:26

NEW YEARS DAY singer Ash Costello joins us on this week’s edition of The Loaded Radio Podcast

NEW YEARS DAY announced their fifth studio album “Half Black Heart” in late 2023, following the release of the tracks “Vampyre” and “Secrets”. The record also features the band’s 2022 hit “Hurts Like Hell” and more recent single “I Still Believe”. Last fall they also embarked on the “Kiss Of Death” tour with IN THIS MOMENT and ICE NINE KILLS, in addition to being featured on WWE NXT‘s “Halloween Havoc”.

Kerrang! magazine counts NEW YEARS DAY among an elite handful of bands inspiring the next generation. Led by “the vibrant force of nature that is frontwoman Ash Costello,” NEW YEARS DAY unleash anthems of discontent and empowerment, delivered with gothic flair and theatrical bombast.

Saints and sinners, victims and victors. In sound and vision, NEW YEARS DAY walk the line between darkness and light. The band’s duality comes to fruition on “Half Black Heart”, an unrepentant and unashamed album championing discovery, from the darkest secrets to one’s inner strength.

Unrestrained fury collides with arena-ready glamor, confrontational DIY passion, and melodic hooks. “Hurts Like Hell”“Vampyre”“Bulletproof”“Fearless”, the title track, and the rest of “Half Black Heart” join an already impressive catalog of songs, like “Come For Me”“Skeletons”“Kill Or Be Killed” and “Shut Up”. Fans have streamed “Angel Eyes” more than 14 million times on Spotify alone.

“Victim To Villain” (2013),“Malevolence” (2015) and “Unbreakable” (2019) deeply resonate with listeners who cherish them as timeless keepsakes, marking different times in their own personal evolution. It’s because Costello, who skillfully conjures horror and comic book aesthetics as allegory, is one of them.

In cinematic music videos, transcendent live performances, and daily interaction (virtual or in-person) with like-minded misfits, this band makes pleasure from pain. Even when it hurts like hell.

In the podcast, Ash Costello talks about the “reunion” of NEW YEARS DAY‘s classic lineup, how the band got involved with the WWE and Rhea Ripley, boring RAMMSTEIN after parties and tons more.

11 Sep 2023TYPE O NEGATIVE's KENNY HICKEY And JOHNNY KELLY Talk 20 Years Of "Life IS Killing Me"00:30:29

TYPE O NEGATIVE guitarist Kenny Hickey and drummer Johnny Kelly look back at their time with the iconic goth metal band on this week's edition of The Loaded Radio Podcast

TYPE O NEGATIVE, the iconic gothic metal band known for their unique blend of dark humor and brooding melodies, delivered another dose of their signature sound with their 2003 album, “Life Is Killing Me.” Released on June 17, 2003, this album marked a significant addition to the band’s discography.

Life Is Killing Me” retained the band’s characteristic mix of doom-laden riffs, Peter Steele‘s deep, haunting vocals, and lyrics that often tread the line between melancholic and macabre. The album explored a wide range of themes, from the struggles of daily life to the band’s notorious wit, all set against a backdrop of heavy, atmospheric music.

TYPE O NEGATIVE formed in Brooklyn, New York, in 1989. Led by the charismatic and enigmatic frontman Peter Steele, the band gained notoriety for their dark and melancholic sound, blending elements of doom metal, gothic rock, and industrial music.

With a unique blend of dark humor and introspection, their albums, including "Bloody Kisses" and "October Rust," became iconic in the gothic and metal music scenes. Tragically, Peter Steele's death in 2010 marked the end of the band, but their influential music continues to captivate listeners worldwide.

In the interview, Kenny and Johnny discuss the turbulent times while making the "Life Is Killing Me" album, they're favorite TYPE O NEGATIVE songs, a possible live album and much more.

01 Sep 2023MARK ZAVON From KILL DEVIL HILL, TOM NOIR From OCTOBER NOIR00:32:18

KILL DEVIL HILL guitarist Mark Zavon and OCTOBER NOIR frontman Tom Noir join us on this week's edition of The Loaded Radio Podcast

KILL DEVIL HILL is set to unveil its third album, "Seas Of Oblivion," on September 20th. This LP, meticulously crafted by engineer Chris Collier, who handled production, engineering, mixing, and mastering duties, seamlessly blends classic hard rock with elements of metal. The result is a musical journey that bridges the gap between contemporary and classic metal, reminiscent of iconic bands like SOUNDGARDEN and ALICE IN CHAINS.

With "Seas Of Oblivion," KILL DEVIL HILL demonstrates its versatility, fearlessly experimenting with various styles, and pushing the boundaries of expectations to deliver a fresh and exhilarating experience for their devoted fans.

Prior to the album's release, KILL DEVIL HILL has already treated fans to a taste of what's to come with the launch of four singles: "Playing With Fire," "Blood In The Water," "You Can't Kill Me California," and "Before The Devil Knows."

Formed in 2011 by legendary drummer Vinny Appice (formerly of BLACK SABBATH and DIO) and bassist Rex Brown (PANTERA), KILL DEVIL HILL has undergone a couple of lineup changes, yet continues with a pummeling vengeance. The band's current roster includes Johnny Kelly (formerly of TYPE O NEGATIVE) on drums, Zavon on guitar, Dewey Bragg on vocals, and Matt Snell (formerly of FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH) on bass.

In the podcast, Mark discusses the evolution of KILL DEVIL HILL, the band's new additions, his love for Wolfgang Van Halen and much more.

Hailing from Pensacola, Florida, OCTOBER NOIR emerged onto the music scene in 2016 as a gothic/doom metal ensemble. Since their inception, they have crafted and shared their unique sonic vision through three full-length albums and an impressive collection of nine stand-alone singles.

The brainchild of Tom Noir, OCTOBER NOIR was conceived in late 2016, and their inaugural album, "The Haunting and the Powerful," saw the light of day on October 19, 2017. Following the album's release, Tom Noir welcomed talented musicians into the fold for their live performances. Drummer Daniel "Stickz" Bryant, guitarist Troy Lambert, and keyboardist Jackie "Jaxxx" Daniel added depth and energy to the band's live shows.

In 2018, OCTOBER NOIR expanded their repertoire by releasing two remarkable singles, both of which were captivating covers. "Pictures of Matchstick Men (RIPeter)," a reinterpretation of the classic by STATUS QUO and TYPE O NEGATIVE, graced listeners' ears on April 14, 2018. Subsequently, on July 5, 2018, they offered their rendition of "Lips like Sugar," originally by ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN, showcasing their versatility and creative prowess.

In the second portion of the podcast, Tom discusses the band's influence, the new album "Letters To Existence", his use of torture devices and more.

27 Feb 2023FROM ASHES TO NEW Singer DANNY CASE Talks New Album, Getting The Gig And Appearing In A Horror Movie00:26:37

This week's edition of THE LOADED RADIO PODCAST features FROM ASHES TO NEW singer Danny Case.

FROM ASHES TO NEW hail from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, with musician Matt Brandyberry being the founding and sole constant member of the group. The band has released three studio albums, being Day One (2016), The Future (2018), and Panic (2020).

FROM ASHES TO NEW recently delivered an intense and captivating new single “Nightmare,” taken from their upcoming as-yet-titled fourth studio album which is due this summer via Better Noise Music. “Nightmare” masterfully showcases the dual vocal abilities of Brandyberry and singer Danny Case in contrasting heavy rock anthemic choruses with nu-metal/rap rock verses.

“Betrayal by someone we trust happens to the best of us,” says Case. “We befriend someone, let them in, build a connection and then all of a sudden they turn into someone unrecognizable. Someone you once trusted and cared for so deeply is now a backstabbing enemy. In a heartbeat, the person you once thought you knew is now gone. There aren’t many things in life that cut quite as deep as betrayal. Erasing that person from your life and moving forward is the only way to wake up from the nightmare.”

In the interview, Danny talks about the upcoming album, how he was brought into the band, appearing in a horror movie and more.

Also, host Scott Penfold discusses the recent reunion between MEGADETH and former guitarist Marty Friedman which recently took place in Tokyo, Japan. Fans of the "Rust In Peace" era of the band were definitely looking forward to Marty's appearance and Dave Mustaine and comany definitely delivered at the legendary Budokan.

08 May 2023Legendary NWOBHM DJ NEAL KAY Talks Essential Albums, His Dislike For Punk And More On THE LOADED RADIO PODCAST00:27:40

Legendary NWOBHM disc-jockey Neal Kay, who was an important factor in the rise of the new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM), along with Tommy Vance, in the late 1970s and early 1980s, joins us on The Loaded Radio Podcast

Between 1975 and 1980, Neal managed the rock club known as "The Bandwagon Heavy Metal Soundhouse", which catered to the burgeoning genre that we know today as heavy metal. With help from the music papers of the day, "Sounds" and "Melody Maker", Neal established the venue as the location for new upcoming bands and like minded fans of the heavy metal genre. Band demo tapes started to arrive in droves after a two-page article in "Sounds", penned by journalist Geoff Barton. Kay had one of the biggest club sound systems ever seen at the time, being an 8000 watt PA, comprising mainly JBL/Martin speakers and coach built JPS associates amps. The PA was so loud that the mixing desk was "flown" on chains, suspended from the roof to help avoid feedback from the record decks.

Kay would often be found at massive heavy metal gigs at venues like the Rainbow Theatre and Hammersmith Odeon, and would eventually hit the road with such iconic acts as BLACK SABBATH, RUSH, AC/DC, JUDAS PRIEST and countless others.

Neal was he first high level touring rock DJ of his time.

Kay would also assist in arranging and producing demos of new heavy metal bands, recorded at Spaceward Studios in Cambridge. Amongst these acts were SAXON, PRAYING MANTIS and IRON MAIDEN. He championed these and other acts, and went on to tour with those bands on full UK treks. The resulting popularity of IRON MAIDEN's recording led to a record contract for them with EMI. Several other NWOBHM bands also got contracts due to their Soundhouse demos. Kay worked with EMI Records compiling many of these demos onto an album called "Metal for Muthas", of which several volumes were released.

In 1980, he was the MC for the very first Monsters of Rock Festival, at Castle Donnington, headlined by RAINBOW, SCORPIONS and JUDAS PRIEST. Kay was also a band manager in the 1980s and early 1990s. During that same period, Neal also managed a large studio complex in South London called Samurai Studios, where he also learned the art of live sound engineering.

Neal, who is retired now, talks with us about the beginnings of heavy metal, his absolute dislike of punk, his relationship with the bands of the era and much more in part 1 of our talk with him on this week's edition of THE LOADED RADIO PODCAST.

03 Oct 2023VOLBEAT's MICHAEL POULSEN Talks ASINHELL, 3 Essential Death Metal Albums And His Love For CHUCK SHULDINER On THE LOADED RADIO PODCAST00:31:41

VOLBEAT frontman Michael Poulsen joins us on this week's edition of The Loaded Radio Podcast to discuss his new death metal project ASINHELL

For over two decades, Michael Poulsen, the vocalist and guitarist, has been at the forefront of the Danish rock and roll powerhouse known as VOLBEAT. During this time, the band has released eight full-length albums, sold millions of records, and rocked stadiums across the globe. However, prior to his leadership role in VOLBEAT, Poulsen was the driving force behind the death metal outfit DOMINUS, which unleashed four blistering albums in the mid-'90s.

While crafting songs for VOLBEAT's 2021 album "Servant Of The Mind," Poulsen found himself composing a slew of death metal riffs, which he saved on his phone. Once the VOLBEAT record was wrapped up, he dusted off these rusty gates to unleash Armageddon and began piecing together songs for his new death metal project, ASINHELL. Their debut album, "Impii Hora" (Latin for "Ungodly Hour"), pays homage to Poulsen's beloved old-school bands. These tracks are anchored in punishing riffs yet laced with potent guitar hooks and infectious, chant-worthy refrains.

Despite being the vocalist for VOLBEAT and previously for DOMINUS, Poulsen decided not to take the frontman role in ASINHELL. Instead, in March 2022, he reached out to his old friend, former MORGOTH vocalist Marc Grewe (also known for his work with INSIDIOUS DISEASE), and invited him to join the endeavor.

When it came to selecting a drummer, Poulsen considered several accomplished musician friends. Ultimately, he enlisted Morten Toft Hansen, the drummer from the Danish group RAUNCHY. Morten not only possesses exceptional drumming skills, but his six-year-old daughter also happens to be friends with Poulsen's daughter, and the convenience of a 10-minute drive to Morten's place "sealed the deal".

These two seasoned musicians began their practice sessions, consistently churning out a complete song nearly every time they got together. However, as Grewe was based in Germany, he had to work on the vocals from home. Poulsen facilitated this process by sending Grewe phone recordings from their rehearsals. Drawing upon their years of experience and a renewed hunger for musical destruction, Poulsen and Toft Hansen managed to capture a ferocious storm in a bottle with ASINHELL.

In the interview, Michael talks about how ASINHELL came together, his absolute love of classic extreme metal, his three essential death metal albums, his admiration of late DEATH frontman Chuck Schuldiner and much more.

Losing longtime members, including fan-favorite vocalist Charlotte Wessels, marked a pivotal moment in the band’s journey. But instead of calling it quits, Martijn saw this as an opportunity for a fresh start. The result? A mix of classic Delain members returning to the fold, combined with a brand-new vocalist whose voice adds fresh energy and depth to the band’s sound.

With Martijn’s vision guiding them, Delain has emerged from this period of change stronger than ever. He dives into what it was like to rebuild the band from the ground up, navigating the pressures of maintaining Delain’s signature sound while exploring new creative territories.

New Music and Delain’s Creative Process

Delain fans are in for a treat as Martijn and Scott discuss the new music that’s already making waves in the metal community. 20 Sep 2023CANNIBAL CORPSE's ALEX WEBSTER Talks 'Chaos Horrific', Past Band Members And His 3 Essential Death Metal Albums On The Loaded Radio Podcast00:31:04

CANNIBAL CORPSE bassist Alex Webster joins us on this week's edition of The Loaded Radio Podcast

CANNIBAL CORPSE, the enduring titans of death metal, are set to release their sixteenth studio album, titled "Chaos Horrific," via Metal Blade Records on September 22.

For over three decades, since their inception in 1988, CANNIBAL CORPSE has spearheaded the world of death metal, leaving an indelible mark on the genre and continuously pushing its boundaries. Their 2021 release, "Violence Unimagined," further heightened their already formidable reputation. Now, in 2023, celebrating their thirty-fifth anniversary, the band unleashes "Chaos Horrific" as the follow-up to this monumental album, heralding a new era in their illustrious career.

This latest offering was crafted shortly after the culmination of the "Violence Unimagined" sessions, and listeners can detect the lingering echoes of its predecessor within the powerful soundscapes of "Chaos Horrific."

Band guitarist Erik Rutan has an impressive track record of producing six albums for CANNIBAL CORPSE, dating back to 2006's "Kill." Additionally, this marks Rutan's second release as a full-fledged member, following his official inclusion in 2020.

The album was meticulously recorded at Rutan's Mana Studio in Florida, the band's home state, providing a comfortable and productive environment for all involved. Every member was operating at their peak, fully prepared to pour their energy into the project. Notably, the guitar work on the album went exceptionally smoothly, thanks to Barrett and Rutan's custom guitars, specially designed with longer scale necks to maintain the precise intonation required for lower tunings.

The album's title, "Chaos Horrific," was coined by drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz, a choice that resonated with the entire band as a fitting representation of their music. The lyrical themes explored in this release are as dark and intense as ever, including subjects like battling hordes of zombies in "Chaos Horrific," the grim selection of a random individual for dismemberment and sacrifice in "Summoned For Sacrifice," and the brutal retaliation of victims of human trafficking in "Vengeful Invasion." The album's artwork, crafted by the long-time collaborator Vince Locke, encapsulates the essence of CANNIBAL CORPSE, featuring a chaotic tableau of the living and the undead, mirroring the vivid imagery within the title track's lyrics.

During the podcast, Alex discusses everything from the creation of the album to past band members to his personal writing process to his top 3 essential death metal albums.

Exploring the ongoing narrative of "Mercenary Notes Pt 1", DERISION CULT delves into the pervasive themes of overstimulation and corporate-driven manipulation within the public sphere, all aimed at boosting product sales. With an extensive background in the advertising industry, mainman Dave McAnally draws upon decades of firsthand experiences to craft a collection of tracks that serves as a survival guide for navigating the challenges of maintaining mental health in a media-saturated world intent on stirring hysteria and sensationalism among the masses.

Joining forces with producer Sean Payne, who contributes the classic Glitch Mode Chicago Industrial sound to the tracks, Dave McAnally shares his vision for pushing the boundaries of production quality.

"Mercenary Notes Pt 1" boasts a star-studded lineup of guest contributors, including Chris Connelly (MINISTRY, PIGFACE), Reeves Gabrels (David Bowie, THE CURE), and Justin Broadrick (GODFLESH). Chris Connelly takes the lead vocals on one of the album's standout singles, "Deaf Blood," a track accompanied by an animated video crafted by Empire Animate based in Vancouver. The infusion of diverse talents further enriches DERISION CULT's sonic landscape, elevating the project to new heights within the industrial metal genre.

In a musical landscape marked by both the dynamic rock soundscapes of BAD OMENS and the industrial metal resonance of DERISION CULT, these two projects offer contrasting yet equally impactful perspectives on the contemporary challenges facing society. While BAD OMENS reaches new heights with their melodic prowess, DERISION CULT digs deep into the gritty complexities of modern existence, creating a unique dichotomy within the realm of American rock and metal.

20 May 2024SIX FEET UNDER's JACK OWEN Talks CHRIS BARNES, CANNIBAL CORPSE & More On The Loaded Radio Podcast00:28:51

SIX FEET UNDER guitarist Jack Owen joins us this week on The Loaded Radio Podcast to discus theband's new album "Killing For Revenge" plus much more

From the opening moments of "Know-Nothing Ingrate," which kicks off "Killing for Revenge", it's immediately clear that SIX FEET UNDER focused their energies into something that's as brutal, lyrically visceral and musically dazzling as one would hope for from the ground-breaking Tampa-bred death metal lineup on their 14th studio album.

"Killing for Revenge", a gnarly beast of a record that's not for the faint-hearted, dishes up nightmare-inducing imagery courtesy of frontman Chris Barnes via the vocalist's trademark guttural vocals. Both the album title and darkly detailed red-hued album cover by artist Vince Locke are perfect containers for the brutality within.

"Killing for Revenge" marks the second album that Barnes and guitarist Jack Owen (both ex-CANNIBAL CORPSE) have created together since reuniting for 2020's "Nightmares of the Decomposed", an album one critic praised an "often slow-ish and doomy yet crushing death metal" which offered an "uncompromising show of strength." Owen also produced "Killing for Revenge", with Barnes as production assistant.

SIX FEET UNDER was initially formed as a side project for Barnes during his final years with the band that he co-founded, CANNIBAL CORPSE. It became the frontman's sole focus in 1995, coinciding with the release of their debut, "Haunted". Only Barnes remains from the original SFU band, but the quality has remained remarkably consistent. The current lineup of Barnes, guitarists Owen and Ray Suhy, bassist Jeff Hughell, and drummer Marco Pitruzzella make for a devastating unit.

Jack Owen: A Shredding Force in Death Metal

But let's get into Jack himself. Jack Owen, a name synonymous with brutal riffs and pummeling grooves, has carved a legendary path through the world of death metal. Born in December 1967 in Akron, New York, Owen's musical journey began with a love for blues and country, influenced by his father's guitar playing. This diverse background would later add unexpected depth to his ferocious metal creations.

CANNIBAL CORPSE and Early Success (1988-2004):

Owen's foray into extreme metal began in 1988 when he co-founded the band that would define his early career: CANNIBAL CORPSE. Alongside vocalist Chris Barnes, Owen became a driving force behind the band's signature sound, characterized by technical proficiency, unrelenting aggression, and lyrics that reveled in the macabre. Albums like "Tomb of the Mutilated" and "Butchered At Birth" cemented CANNIBAL CORPSE's status as death metal pioneers, and Owen's shredding guitar work became a hallmark of the genre.

DEICIDE, SIX FEET UNDER and Beyond (2004-Present):

In 2004, Owen left CANNIBAL CORPSE to pursue other musical endeavors. These endeavors would turn out to be DEICIDE, replacing the Hoffman brothers, where he remained a member of the brutal band until 2016. The following year, he joined his former CORPSE bandmate Chris Barnes in SIX FEET UNDER where he not only remains, but also plays such a massive part of in the way of production, writing and performing.

The reunion proved fruitful, with Owen's songwriting partnership with Barnes breathing new life into SIX FEET UNDER. They've released a string of critically acclaimed albums together, including their latest effort "Killing for Revenge" which showcases Owen's relentless ferocity remains undiminished.

Beyond Death Metal:

Despite his association with death metal, Owen's musical tastes are eclectic. He has expressed admiration for blues and country legends, and even filled in for a short period with the band ADRIFT, showcasing his versatility as a guitarist.

A Legacy of Brutal Brilliance:

Jack Owen's impact on death metal is undeniable. His innovative riffs, technical prowess, and songwriting skills have influenced countless musicians.

During this episode of The Loaded Radio Podcast, Jack sits down with Loaded Radio's Scott Penfold and discusses everything from the latest SIX FEET UNDER album, the history and evolution of death metal, his love for animals, his relationship with Barnes, the early days of CANNIBAL CORPSE and also whether he believes that a tour featuring both bands will ever happen.

KILL THE LIGHTS is the band featuring former BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE bassist Jason "Jay" James and drummer Michael "Moose" Thomas, alongside former members of THROW THE FIGHT, THREAT SIGNAL, and STILL REMAINS.

The group made waves with their debut album, "The Sinner," released in 2020 under Fearless Records. Praised for its "statement songs" (Distorted Sound) and technical prowess, it garnered acclaim for its expansive sound and precise execution (Sonic Perspectives).

After piling up millions of streams and earning acclaim from the likes of KERRANG! and Metal Hammer, a sense of unwavering unity drives their second full-length offering, "Death Melodies", which arrives March 8 via Fearless Records.

“The best stuff comes when we’re together,” states Moose. “We’ll joke around for hours, have a few drinks, and the songs write themselves. We’re so connected in this way. There’s no path. We’re not trying to follow anybody. This is the first album that really sounds like Kill The Lights.”

In December 2017, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE announced the departure of Thomas, replaced by Jason Bowld (PITCHSHIFTER, AXEWOUND). Bowld had been touring with the band since November 2015, filling in for Thomas, who had taken time off for family reasons.

03 Feb 2024JONNY DAVY From JOB FOR A COWBOY & ANNA BRUNNER From EXIT EDEN On The Loaded Radio Podcast00:31:15

JOB FOR A COWBOY frontman Jonny Davy and EXIT EDEN co-vocalist Anna Brunner join us for this week's edition of The Loaded Radio Podcast

This week on the Loaded Radio Podcast Scott Penfold sits down first with JOB FOR A COWBOY vocalist Jonny Davy to discuss the death metal outfit's latest album "Moon Healer".

Moon Healer” is set for release on February 23rd via Metal Blade Records.

The release marks JOB FOR A COWBOY‘s first new full-length in a decade!

Moon Healer” is a vivid illustration of what happens when creativity, aggression, and volatility tangle for the first time in years. Like the band’s critically adored, 2014-released “Sun Eater” offering, “Moon Healer” is musically multifaceted, unabashedly brutal, and compellingly conceptual. Featuring a newly refreshed and reinspired lineup of frontman and co-founder Jonny Davy, guitarists Tony Sannicandro and Al Glassman, bassist Nick Schendzielos, and drummer (since 2020) Navene Koperweis, the band seamlessly picks up the mantle where JOB FOR A COWBOY‘s “Sun Eater” left off.

Compared to past offerings, “Moon Healer” is as bone-crushing as JOB FOR A COWBOY has ever been. But it’s more consistent and conceptual, composed with the utmost enthusiasm and confidence. “The evolution of our sound has become a big part of the band,” Davy says. “As we mature as musicians, our tastes and interests naturally expand. With age comes more experience and ideas that we wouldn’t have considered in our earlier years.”

Moon Healer” was produced by Jason Suecof (DEATH ANGEL, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, DEICIDE) at his Audiohammer Studios and is the first JOB FOR A COWBOY album to feature session drummer Navene Koperweis (ex-Animosity). Davy previously worked with Koperweis in the progressive death metal side project FLESHWROUGHT, which released Dementia/Dyslexia through Metal Blade in 2010. Koperweis also worked as a session drummer for MACHINE HEAD and WHITECHAPEL and is currently in the band ENTHEOS, whose third full-length came out on Metal Blade in March 2023.

In the second portion of the podcast, Scott sits down with Anna Brunner from EXIT EDEN.

Symphonic metal unit EXIT EDEN, consisting of Clémentine Delauney (VISIONS OF ATLANTIS), Anna Brunner (LEAGUE OF DISTORTION) and Marina La Torraca (PHANTOM ELITE) recently released their second album, “Femmes Fatales” via Napalm Records“Femmes Fatales” includes 12 songs in total — half covers, half original compositions.

EXIT EDEN‘s new release follows the band’s debut, 2017’s “Rhapsodies In Black”, which garnered millions of video views (12 million on EXIT EDEN‘s cover of Bonnie Tyler‘s “Total Eclipse Of The Heart” alone). Previous singles from “Femmes Fatales”“Run!” (featuring ex-NIGHTWISH bassist/vocalist Marko Hietala) and “Separate Ways” (JOURNEY cover) have already surpassed a million views since their respective releases in October and December 2023.

Now performing as a trio, EXIT EDEN‘s new full-length follows the path of its predecessor, as it contains six cover versions of famous cross-generational super-hits, but this time also shines by offering six original compositions. With one exception (“Dying In My Dreams”, co-written by Marina La Torraca),the remaining five original songs were brought to life by Brunner and Hannes Braun (KISSIN’ DYNAMITE),who is also responsible for recording, production and mixing, whereas the album was mastered by Jacob Hansen (DELAINAMARANTHEVOLBEATDESTRUCTION and many more).

Self-confidently leading straight into the tempting world of EXIT EDEN, opening “Femme Fatale”“Buried In The Past” and “Hold Back Your Fear” conjure a mystical atmosphere with strings and orchestral elements, topped by complementary vocals uniting the sonic diversity of the all-femme trio. “Dying In My Dreams” and album closing “Elysium” set the tone as captivating mid-tempo tracks with intense choruses that speak straight to the heart.

The Duke of Spook himself Wednesday 13 joins us this week on The Loaded Radio Podcast to discuss his current tour celebrating the 21 year anniversary of MURDERDOLLS

Wednesday 13, whose real name is Joseph Poole, is a notable American musician and artist celebrated for his contributions to the horror punk and heavy metal genres. Born on August 12, 1976, in Lexington, North Carolina, he developed a deep-seated fascination with the macabre and heavy metal music early in life, which would profoundly influence his artistic career.

One of the key chapters in Wednesday 13's career was his role as the lead vocalist and songwriter for the horror punk band, MURDERDOLLS. The band was formed in 2002 and released their debut album, "Beyond the Valley of the Murderdolls," the same year. This album skillfully blended punk and glam rock influences with lyrics that delved into the world of horror, quickly gaining the band a dedicated following.

Following the disbandment of that band in 2004, WEDNESDAY 13 embarked on a successful solo career. In 2005, he released his first solo album, "Transylvania 90210: Songs of Death, Dying, and the Dead." This marked the inception of his solo journey, characterized by music that revolved around dark, morbid, and horror-inspired themes.

Throughout his solo career, Wednesday 13 continued to release numerous albums, including "Fang Bang" (2006), "Skeletons" (2008), "Calling All Corpses" (2011), and "Condolences" (2017), among others. His music incorporated elements of punk, glam rock, and heavy metal, all infused with a horror-infused aesthetic.

In 2010, MURDERDOLLS confirmed their comeback and began working on their second studio album, titled "Women and Children Last," which was released in August 2010.

The reunion marked a significant moment for fans of the band and the horror punk genre. "Women and Children Last" featured the signature horror-inspired lyrics and energetic sound that the group were known for. The album's release and subsequent touring reignited interest in the band, demonstrating the enduring appeal of their unique blend of punk and glam rock with a macabre twist.

Notably, Wednesday 13 cultivated a distinct stage persona marked by a ghoulish appearance inspired by the horror genre. His lyrical content consistently explored themes of death, horror films, and the supernatural, making him a prominent figure in the horror punk and heavy metal scenes.

Over the years, Wednesday engaged in various collaborations and embarked on extensive touring, further establishing his presence in the music industry and gaining a reputation for his electrifying live performances.

He joins us on this week's podcast to discuss his current tour celebrating the 21 year anniversary of MURDERDOLLS, upcoming solo material, hos favorite Halloween horror movies and much more.

04 Aug 2023DAVID SIMONICH From SIGNS OF THE SWARM & OL DRAKE From EVILE On THE LOADED RADIO PODCAST00:30:39

SIGNS OF THE SWARM, hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is an American deathcore band that came together in 2014. The group is made up of drummer Bobby Crow, vocalist David Simonich, guitarist Carl Schulz, and bassist Michael Cassese.

Over the years, they have delivered four compelling studio albums, with their bludgeoning fifth album, titled "Amongst the Low & Empty," hitting shelves on July 28, 2023, via Century Media Records.

In the podcast, David discusses the band's being signed by Century Media, the personal pain and struggles which fueled some of the album's brutal tracks, the upcoming tour with CARNIFEX and much more.

Formed in 2004 in Huddersfield, England, EVILE is a prominent thrash metal band with a rich history of line-up changes. Amidst these shifts, drummer Ben Carter has been the sole constant member from the original formation. Presently, the band's lineup includes Carter, the talented lead guitarist and vocalist Ol Drake, bassist Joel Graham, and rhythm guitarist Adam Smith, who took over from Ol Drake's older brother Matt in 2020.

EVILE holds a significant place in the thrash metal resurgence of the mid-to-late 2000s, earning high praise from Kerrang! for shouldering the genre's revival. Their impressive discography boasts six studio albums: "Enter the Grave" (2007), "Infected Nations" (2009), "Five Serpent's Teeth" (2011), "Skull" (2013), "Hell Unleashed" (2021), and the recently released "The Unknown" (2023).

During the second part of the show, Ol Drake joins us to discuss their latest LP "The Unknown", working with famed METALLICA producer Flemming Rasmussen and the significance of thrash metal as a genre.

06 Apr 2023CHASE WILSON From OV SULFUR/Top 13 NU-METAL Bands00:31:17

OV SULFUR have unleashed their debut full-length album, "The Burden Ov Faith", via Century Media Records.

Wilson comments: "Having Howard (Jones - LIGHT THE TORCH, ex-KILLSWITCH ENGAGE) hop on the album version of 'Wide Open' was the best thing that could have happened. We knew we wanted the song on the album, but we also knew it needed new life to live alongside the rest of the songs and not just be tossed on there. It's crazy to us he wanted to work with us - less surprising is the fact he absolutely killed it. We just gave him the song and lyrics, and we let him do his thing. He really pushes the song to another level with both his screaming and singing. What a legend!"

Of the album, OV SULFUR vocalist Ricky Hoover comments: "I'm beyond proud of what we've created on 'The Burden Ov Faith'. Who would have thought I would be screaming on new music over a decade after leaving Suffokate - let alone singing?! I legitimately didn't think I was ever coming back to music period when I left back in 2012, so to have an album out on one of the most respected labels in metal is mindblowing. Huge shout out to all my band mates and everyone who worked to create this with us - and everyone who takes time out of their life to listen!"

Crafted by the band alongside producer Morgoth Beatz (WINDS OF PLAGUE, SCARLXRD), then mixed/mastered by maestro Josh Schroeder (LORNA SHORE, TALLAH), "The Burden Ov Faith" sees the two split engineering of vocals and drums, respectively, with former MACHINE HEAD guitarist Logan Mader stepping in to capture the guitars and bass. The resulting album spans the stygian planets of deathcore, black metal, and metalcore, creating something as majestic as it is hook-laden. It also finds vocalist Ricky Hoover exploring the singing side of his voice, which he'd developed over years in choir as a child and only now added to his impressive growls and screams on a metal album.

The second half of the podcast will see Loaded Radio's Scott Penfold and Jules discuss the "Top 13 Nu-Metal Bands Who Defined The Era".

25 Apr 2024WHILE SHE SLEEPS Guitarist SEAN LONG ON The Loaded Radio Podcast00:22:35

WHILE SHE SLEEPS Deep into "Self Hell" with Groundbreaking New Album - Loaded Radio's Scott Penfold Interviews Guitarist Sean Long

British metal outfit WHILE SHE SLEEPS are notorious for pushing boundaries and defying expectations. Their music is a potent blend of aggressive riffs, soaring vocals, and introspective lyrics, tackling social issues and personal struggles head-on. This relentless pursuit of evolution is on full display in their latest offering, the aptly titled "Self Hell."

Released on March 29th, 2024, "Self Hell" marks the band's sixth studio album and a significant creative leap. Loaded Radio's Scott Penfold recently caught up with WHILE SHE SLEEPS guitarist and co-producer Sean Long for an in-depth conversation about the album's creation. Long delved into the collaborative writing process, his experiences as co-producer, and the deeper meaning behind "Self Hell."

Breaking the Mold: A Collaborative "Self Hell"

While WHILE SHE SLEEPS have never been afraid to experiment. From the melodic hooks of "SLEEPS SOCIETY" to the crushing brutality of "You Are We," their discography showcases a band unafraid to explore new sonic frontiers. "Self Hell" continues this trend, with a newfound emphasis on collaboration within the band.

"This album feels like a second debut for us," Long reveals in the interview. "We made it a personal goal to make sure everyone was having fun on the day in the studio and not worrying too much about the future of the record, but more so that everybody feels included and content on the day of writing."

This shift towards a more communal approach is evident throughout the record. WHILE SHE SLEEPS are known for vocalist Loz Carter's powerful delivery, "Self Hell" features a wider range of vocal styles, showcasing the band's collective talent.

A Guitarist Takes the Helm: Sean Long as Co-Producer

Long's role extends far beyond crafting the album's searing guitar work. He stepped into the co-producer role alongside long-time collaborator Carl Brown. This newfound responsibility allowed Long to directly shape the sonic landscape of "Self Hell."

"We only ever sing or speak about things from experience," Long explains. "For me personally, talking about the nature of existence, using our own morality, pain and suffering, as a catalyst to look deeper, is something that I hold deep within myself, and that is the main focus of my purpose in life."

This introspective approach extends to the production. Long worked tirelessly to create an atmosphere that mirrored the album's themes of self-discovery and existential exploration.

Beyond the Music: Unpacking the Meaning of "Self Hell"

"Self Hell" transcends the realms of headbanging anthems. The album delves into the complexities of the human experience, exploring themes of doubt, anxiety, and the constant battle within ourselves.

The title track perfectly encapsulates this internal struggle. Released on September 13th, 2023, alongside a captivating music video, "Self Hell" served as a potent introduction to the album's overarching themes.

"The album name is something that me and Loz stumbled across in the midst of trying to come up with a name," Long reveals. "But the content, the lyrical content and everything that we sing about is relevant either way."

While-She-Sleeps-2024

Singles Spark Excitement for "Self Hell"

The release of WHILE SHE SLEEPS' "Self Hell" was preceded by a string of singles that showcased the album's diverse sound. The title track set the stage for a dark and introspective journey, while subsequent singles like "Down" (featuring Alex Taylor of MALEVOLENCE) and "Leave Me Alone" offered a more aggressive and in-your-face approach.

The third single, "To the Flowers," released on February 14th, 2024, offered a more melodic and emotionally charged direction. This single, along with its accompanying music video, provided a glimpse into the album's softer side, proving WHILE SHE SLEEPS can be equally adept at crafting heartfelt ballads as they are crushing metal anthems.
