I'm sure you're sick of hearing about 'gratitude’ at this time of the year.

It can often feel like an overused buzzword. However, *hear me out* gratitude is more than a whole ton of Kumbaya around a campfire. It's a key component in achieving unbelievable goals! 

There are so many neurological reasons we can benefit from this general practice of expressing thanks for both the good and the bad in our lives, especially in times of challenge and change. 

It's safe to say, the last two years have been pretty traumatic for all of us, and navigating a new world with unexpected changes, all of which were entirely out of our control. Especially as business owners!

If left undealt with, this trauma can start wreaking havoc internally without us even realizing it and hold us back from experiencing the unbelievable good that’s coming our way! 

Here is one thing I have discovered about dealing with tough times. 

When you learn to become grateful for the bad and see the beauty it brings, it loses its power over you. It no longer consumes you with negative emotions. Gratitude is reclaiming your power and looking at the situation with peace. 

I really encourage you to sit down and think about all the good that has resulted from 2021, even in the moments we'd rather not relive. Perhaps you found new opportunities in your business, or you had more quality time to spend with family, or you embraced a slower pace of life. Take the time to reflect and find the silver linings.

“Is all my hard work even worth it, or am I on a one-way road to nowhere?” 

Launching an online course isn't an easy ride. In fact, it's the total opposite. It's a bumpy ride full of iOS potholes, failed lead magnet detours, wrong tech turns, you name it.

Why does social media for our business stress us out so much?

Recently I set out to bake a cake. I had all my ingredients lined up; my apron was on, the oven was ready, and the instructions were simple (no double tray situations - if you remember back from #quesadillagate).

I diligently measured all the ingredients and mixed them nicely into a .....runny, disgusting tasting goop!

WHAT THE…..

My culinary expert and cooking extraordinaire husband Emil came home to the goopy mess and was determined to solve the case. 

Flour, check. 

Butter, check. 

Eggs, check. 

Half a cup of baking powder, check. 

"Wait, wait, wait. Half a cup of baking powder?" He burst out laughing. It was on this day I learned a very important, soapy-tasting lesson on the difference between baking soda and baking powder. 

In the wrong proportion, this one little ingredient caused my whole cake to be an unwanted, overlooked waste of effort. 

But if I had simply tweaked that one ingredient, my cake would have been a huge success, and the whole family would have queued up, ready to savor a slice. 

The same goes for an online course. You might have all the right ingredients, but if one thing is slightly out of proportion, your whole online course cake could turn into a giant, unwanted, cyber soap-tasting mess. 

Here's the good news.

Why Audience Targeting is Changing And What You Need to Do Now to Ensure Your Ads Reach the Righ Audience

In This Episode: In today’s episode, we dive into the evolving landscape of audience targeting in Facebook and Instagram ads. Over the past 6-7 years, we've seen dramatic shifts in how we can target audiences, and these changes are significantly impacting how advertisers approach their campaigns.

Here’s what you’ll learn:

• The Golden Days of Audience Targeting:

• A few years ago, Facebook and Instagram ads offered incredible precision. Advertisers could create retargeting audiences as small as a few hundred people and deliver highly specific messages, such as reminding users to complete a webinar registration. This level of precision gave Facebook and Instagram a competitive edge that other platforms couldn’t match.

• The Impact of iOS Privacy Changes:

• The introduction of iOS privacy protections in 2021 dealt a significant blow to this precision. Pixels, which were once the eyes and ears of ad campaigns, could no longer track user activity effectively. This blindfolded the algorithms, hampering their ability to optimize campaigns and skewing the data reported to advertisers.

• The Rise of Broader Audience Targeting:

• Meta’s shift toward Advantage+ targeting is pushing advertisers to use much broader audiences. While this can increase exposure, it also reduces control over who exactly sees your ads, making it challenging to ensure ads reach the most relevant users.

• The Shift in Strategy:

• With the new automated targeting, traditional funnel strategies (Top of Funnel, Middle of Funnel, Bottom of Funnel) are being disrupted. Advertisers are now forced to rethink their approach, relying more on email marketing for tasks that ads used to handle effectively.

• Challenges with Advantage+ Targeting:

• Meta’s push toward Advantage+ targeting is not without its issues. Many advertisers have found that despite opting out, Meta still switches to Advantage+ without notice, broadening the audience beyond their intended scope. This can lead to ads being shown to irrelevant demographics, which is problematic for targeting specific audiences.

• How to Take Back Control:

• There are ways to regain some control over your audience targeting, such as setting up Account Controls in Advertising Settings. This helps keep your ads within the right countries and ensures the appropriate age range is targeted. However, gender targeting remains a challenge under Advantage+.

• The Silver Lining - TikTok’s Influence:

• TikTok’s For You Page (FYP) has shifted user expectations, making them more open to seeing content from creators they’re not following. This trend has opened up new real estate on Facebook and Instagram, allowing for cheaper ad impressions in the newsfeeds of cold audiences.

• Practical Steps to Optimize Your Ad Campaigns:

• Set up Account Controls to ensure your ads reach the right people.

• Test Advantage+ audiences against cold audiences to compare cost and lead quality.

• Be vigilant with your ad setups to ensure Meta hasn’t automatically switched to Advantage+ without your knowledge.

• Capitalize on the low costs of Top of Funnel campaigns to build your email list and supercharge your upcoming launches.
