27 Apr 2022Ric Prado: Black Ops01:34:40
Today’s guest is legendary CIA paramilitary and operations officer Enrique “Ric” Prado.    Ric is a retired CIA operations officer who specialized in paramilitary, counter-terrorism and special/clandestine operations. Escaping Cuba as a child amidst the violence of Castro’s Cuban Revolution, he would go on to retire as the CIA equivalent of a two-star general after serving for twenty-four years in the nation’s premier intelligence service which included 36 months as the first CIA officer to live in the anti-Sandinista “Contra” camps and later as Deputy Chief of Station of the original Bin Laden Task Force.   His new New York Times bestselling memoir Black Ops: The Life of a CIA Shadow Officer takes a deep dive into a truly exceptional career filled with assassins, terrorists, spies and revolutionaries. 14 Jun 2024A sneak peek inside RED SKY MOURNING: Chapter 100:41:10
In just a few short days the 7th novel in the James Reece Terminal List series is coming in hot! On this BONUS episode, I invite you to listen to Chapter 1 of Red Sky Mourning read by Ray Porter. When it comes to writing a novel, my goal is to honor the story.  I never consider what is “popular” or if shorter or longer chapters are “in” or if I’m going to alienate anyone because of what I am writing – instead it is all about story.  By honoring the story I am respecting the reader or listener who is trusting me with time they will never get back.  It is my responsibility as an author to constantly hone my craft to deliver the best story I possibly can.  From the initial spark of an idea to the final manuscript, my heart and soul goes into every word.  Even as the deadline looms, I continue to scrutinize every chapter and scene, making refinements right up until the very last moment, to ensure nothing was left on the field.  If you already listened to Chapter 1 when I released it in December, you may notice some slight differences in this latest version.  I am constantly striving to enhance the narrative, deepen connections to characters, and sharpen the plot —even if only by a degree.  Enjoy the listen!  Buy the audiobook https://bit.ly/RedSkyMourningAudio Order your copy of RED SKY MOURNING, HERE. 23 Mar 2022Des Powell: Bravo Three Zero02:27:22
Today’s guest is Des Powell, a veteran of the SAS who served 28 years in the British military going behind enemy lines in one of the Gulf War’s earliest and most dangerous missions.   His new book, SAS Bravo Three Zero: The Explosive Untold Story tells the story of Des’ experience during the opening hours of the Gulf War. From the publisher: There were three patrols that fateful January 1991 morning: Bravo One Zero, Bravo Two Zero … then there was Bravo Three Zero. These men were different. Thought differently. Acted differently. Treating as gospel the SAS’s saying ‘any fool can be uncomfortable’, they deployed with vehicles, and while there was nowhere to hide they could make a dash for the border if desperate. Even as warnings came in that McNab’s patrol was on the run, Bravo Three Zero remained undetected – the furthest Coalition forces behind Iraqi lines. Slipping through enemy positions, a string of targets were taken out. But with the desert turning bitter and snow starting to fall, they were forced to fight a running battle against the elements as much as the enemy.  You can follow Des on Instagram @des.p22  Sponsors  Navy Federal Credit Union: Today’s episode is presented by Navy Federal Credit Union. As the release date for Only the Dead quickly approaches, Danger Close listeners get a special early listen to the prologue and first two chapters, read by Ray Porter. You can pre-order the audiobook now. About Only the Dead: In 1980, a freshman congressman was gunned down in Rhode Island, sending shockwaves through Washington that are still reverberating over four decades later. Now, with the world on the brink of war and a weakened United States facing rampant inflation, political division, and shocking assassinations, a secret cabal of global elites is ready to assume control. And with the world’s most dangerous man locked in solitary confinement, the conspirators believe the final obstacle to complete domination has been eliminated. They’re wrong. From the firms of Wall Street to the corridors of power in Washington, DC, and Moscow, secrets from the past have the uncanny ability to rise to the surface in the present. With the odds stacked against him, James Reece is on a mission generations in the making. Unfortunately for his enemies, the former SEAL is not concerned with odds. He is on the warpath. And when James Reece picks up his tomahawk and sniper rifle, no one is out of range. Audio excerpt courtesy of Simon & Schuster Audio from ONLY THE DEAD by Jack Carr, read by Ray Porter. 19 Jun 2024A sneak peek inside RED SKY MOURNING: Chapter 200:12:23
RED SKY MOURNING is available now!  In this last installment of BONUS episodes, I invite you to listen to Chapter 2 of RED SKY MOURNING read by Ray Porter. Thank you to all the readers and listeners who have trusted me with their time and joined James Reece on these adventures.  THE TERMINAL LIST was a story of revenge without constraint. TRUE BELIEVER was one of violent redemption. SAVAGE SON explored the dark side of man through the dynamic of hunter and hunted. THE DEVIL’S HAND looked at the U.S. through the eyes of the enemy, an enemy that had been watching, learning, adapting, and applying lessons from our past two decades of combat to their battle plans. IN THE BLOOD was a sniper-centric book of violent resolutions. ONLY THE DEAD was a novel of truth and consequences. RED SKY MOURNING focuses on the rapidly expanding role of technology in conflict, but at its base it is a story about loyalty. Will this be the last book in the James Reece Terminal List series? Get your copy of RED SKY MOURNING today to find out.  Buy the audiobook https://bit.ly/RedSkyMourningAudio Order your copy of the novel, RED SKY MOURNING, HERE. 13 Jan 2022Head of the Snake Part 4: Aftermath01:31:32
In May of 2011, Mark Owen crossed the Afghanistan-Pakistan border on a mission to capture/kill Osama bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaeda - to decapitate “The Head of the Snake.”  But that night in Abbottabad, Pakistan is just a part of Mark’s story. In this special four-part series of Danger Close, Jack sits down for an extended interview with Mark to discuss the story you haven’t heard. Starting with Mark’s childhood in a remote Alaskan community to his early days in the SEAL Teams to 9/11 and the sustained combat that followed to his selection and training for a team at the highest echelons of special operations, this is Mark Owen unfiltered, candid, and uncensored. Mark would go on to take part in high-profile operations like the mission to rescue Captain Richard Phillips from Somali pirates and the search for Bowe Bergdahl. He would later work his way up a stairwell in a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan and into a hallway where the most wanted terrorist in the world waited…   But, as Jack and Mark discuss, the aftermath of the raid would not only change the public profile of Naval Special Warfare, it would also alter the course of Mark’s life in ways he could have never anticipated. IRONCLAD and SIG Sauer proudly present, The Head of the Snake: The Killing of UBL, a special Danger Close event. Mark Owen’s books: No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission that Killed Osama Bin Laden and No Hero: The Evolution of a Navy SEAL Sponsors: Today’s episode is presented by SIG Sauer. Part 4: Aftermath   The days following the raid that killed Osama bin Laden were an exciting time for the American public, but for the men that were there the night he died things were taking a turn. In the final installment of The Head of the Snake series, we learn about why Mark’s military career would soon come to an end, and how his decision to tell the public the story of the Bin Laden raid drew the ire of the Pentagon.  It’s a fascinating look at the post-9/11 American military, issues within the Navy Special Warfare community, how the Defense Department deals with internal controversies, and more.
