03 Mar 2025 | Momentum Loses its MoJo, and the Risk Trade Gets Wrecked | 00:14:30

The White House dropped a new executive order to build a 'Strategic Crypto Reserve', breathing some bullishness back into the beleaguered crypto patch, and Wall Street has dusted off an old, but risky strategy called 'Portable Alpha', to find the next moonshot stocks.

Is our timing terrible, or have we decided that the market has bottomed and the tariffs that go into effect next week will just be a minor adjustment? Plus, what the SKEW Index is telling us, and what to expect in the stock market and the economy this week.

05 Jul 2022 | Building a 2nd Half Playbook with Morgan Stanley's Mike Wilson | 00:31:51
Mike Wilson, the Chief U.S. Equity Strategist for Morgan Stanley, says the market could fall further as corporate earnings roll over and the chances of a recession increase. Still, long-term investors can still find opportunities to stabilize and grow their portfolios in this tumultuous environment, and why we need to look at the U.S. economy in the 1940's for comparison. And, the 60/40 portfolio just had its worst six-month period in history, turning decades of investing principles on their head. We try to turn things around on The Express.

04 Nov 2024 | Why the Federal Budget Deficit Could Trigger the Next Financial Crisis | 00:28:40
No one wants to talk about the $1.8 Billion Federal Budget deficit - especially the two candidates running for president and their political parties. But, as Marc Goldwein of the Committee for a Responsible Budget warns, the interest costs alone to serve that debt are approaching 17% of government spending, which is more than we spend on defense, education and healthcare. Both presidential candidates are pushing policies that would only amplify that debt by trillions of dollars over the next decade, bringing with it inflation, high interest rates, a debt spiral and a massive devaluing of U.S. Treasuries. The debt matters, but don't tell Washington D.C.

A jam-packed January full of news also brought DeepSeek into the future of A.I. conversation, deep-seating Nvidia as the world's most valuable company, and calling into question the hundreds of billions of dollars of spending by Big Tech on semiconductors to control the future. The Fed punted on interest rates, as expected, but now new tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China threaten to upend the effects of monetary policy and bring more inflation to our doorsteps. 31 Mar 2025 | Bracing for 'Liberation Day', and the Dizzying Decline of the Dollar | 00:15:45
Investors have been bracing for, and selling ahead of April 2nd, dubbed "Liberation Day", by The White House, when hundreds of billions of dollars in tariffs are set to be imposed on Canada, Mexico and China. That has driven consumer and investor sentiment down to multi-year lows as we ready ourselves for more inflation and profit pressure. Meanwhile, the rise of a new coalition of autocracies called the CRINK's has been very busy doing business with one another in Russia, China, Iran and North Korea, and they are doing it without the Dollar. What a declining greenback means for the strength of the U.S. economy as it enters a new era of protectionism.
