Tesla's two most expensive cars are only being made for "sentimental reasons," Elon Musk said on Tesla’s third-quarter earnings call. "The Model S and X are really niche.”  I disagree and maybe you do too. If you own an S or an X leave your thoughts below. Although Elon is right that the Model S and X are part of history and served as a stepping stone to where they are today, I think he is missing the point by making that connection. Those cars allowed Tesla to be a coveted luxury, premium brand.

The debate as to whether #Tesla should elect to advertise is certainly not a new one, but there is a new development in the story. As you may know by now, Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting is coming up on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 Mountain View, CA  

A shareholder event is traditionally when companies will take votes on proposals. For Tesla this year, one of these proposals is the idea that Tesla should “spend at least $50/car produced to advertise its products/services in order to increase brand and product awareness and interest, ... and to help mitigate and/or reduce harm to Tesla’s goals, objectives, reputation and finances.”  

The proposal will be voted on by Tesla shareholders. Currently, I don’t expect this to pass because Tesla’s board is opposing it as the idea of advertising goes against the company’s entire past success. Tesla has never wanted to or chosen to partake in traditional advertising. Why should this change now? I don’t think Tesla should, but there is much more of a conversation to be had. Let's go!

Right now, Tesla is one of the only public companies you can point to and say I want my money there because I believe in a sustainable future. What will Tesla announce at the Battery & Powertrain Investor Day? Why will this be important? Last year, the Autonomy Event was held at its headquarters in Palo Alto, at 11 a.m. PT on livestream.tesla.com. You should expect the Battery Event to be in April (April 20th to be exact if Elon’s more recent behavior is any indication of this). However, Elon recently stated on Twitter that the “Tesla April company talk will be from our Giga New York factory, where we make SolarGlass & several other products. Will also offer customer & media tours.” Either way, California, or New York, Elon Musk, always will kick off the event most likely with another executive. Last year it was Pete Bannon. This year my guess is it will be Drew Baglino the chief technical officer. I think that Tesla will one day surpass Apple in terms of market capitalization. Apple being the great American technology company that was the first to reach the illusive trillion dollar market cap. Now in my recent video explaining the Tesla ecosystem I compared Tesla to Apple. Once again I will be making that comparison. I clearly offended some of you by even mentioning Apple in the same sentence as Tesla and I don’t get why you feel that way. You can’t say that Apple got to become one of the most valuable companies in the world by scamming customers and making terrible products. I’m trying not to over explain this point, but I think that Tesla is on a path similar to Apple’s early one. In this short video, I will explain how Tesla will eventually leap frog Apple’s market cap because of how they have countless more opportunities for future success.

Many people know to buy low and sell high. But I am going to offer you a different perspective. Buy as the market drops and continue to add to your position over time. If you choose a growth company, this strategy is likely to work and it is what I will be choosing to do with my money over the next 10 years. Check out my video on what an investment in TSLA could look like over the next 5 years and how my biggest fear for the stock has been taken care of if you are a Tesla investor.   Yes, my portfolio is down a lot recently, but I’m not investing for the short-term and my guess is that neither are you and as long-term investors know, the market rebounds. When this whole situation is sorted out, the pressure on the market as a whole will be alleviated.   Given the current economic situation it’s important to remember what the father of value investing, Benjamin Graham, once explained — in the short run, the market is like a voting machine -- tallying up which firms are popular and unpopular. But in the long run, the market is like a weighing machine--assessing the substance and fundamental power of a company.  So what is my investment mindset? When it comes to deciding if you want to invest in a company, I follow a 5 step process to make sure I really want to invest in that company. Tesla’s suite of self-driving features is something that sets them apart from most other cars. Most notably, over-the-air updates allow Tesla to continuously improve its autonomous capabilities remotely. Now, Elon Musk hints Tesla will release “more” full self-driving features this month, and potentially “Reverse Summon” according to a recent tweet by the Tesla CEO. 

While discussing Tesla full self-driving (FSD), Musk said Tesla is “tracking to release more FSD features later this month”. Although Musk did not mention exactly what FSD features he’s referring to, he has dropped some hints lately.

Specifically, these FSD features could include “Reverse Summon” as well as potential improvements for Europe. Back on March 2nd, Musk first made a reference to “Reverse Summon”.

After someone on Twitter asked when “we can see reverse summon in beta?”. Musk responded by saying that Tesla needs to “finish work on Autopilot core foundation code” and “3D labelling” in order for this functionality to get implemented. The CEO then went on to add that it’s “not long now”.

Much like in World War II, companies like Tesla are retooling their production lines to produce necessary equipment that can save lives. In Tesla’s case: ventilators.

Today, I want to talk about what an investment in TSLA could look like over the next 5 years and how my biggest fear for the stock has been taken care of. 

But first, a very brief recap of Tesla’s past. Amid economic uncertainty, TSLA IPOed in June of 2010 on the NASDAQ. The stock price jumped over 40 percent in its first day of trading to close at $23.89, that valued the company at $2 billion. It was the first initial public offering by an American automaker since Ford's debut in 1956. While the market showed strong enthusiasm for the stock, many concerns were raised about the long-term viability of the company since Tesla at the time had a limited operating history, a long history of losses, liquidity issues, expensive battery technology and pending competition from traditional automakers. As a result, the stock was frequently the subject of high short interest, a usual predictor of lower performance. The important question to be answered was were the short-sellers correct in their bearish sentiment, or was the stock bound to rise for years to come? 

That was ten years ago and Tesla is still as much of a growth company now as they were then. Let me repeat that, Tesla is growth company. There is no denying this fact.

If you do chose to make the jump and invest in TSLA thereby taking part in The Tesla Opportunity, just remember that the money should not be the only reason for making the investment. Remember that the company is working to further the mission of accelerating the entire world to sustainable energy usage and transport. As an investor, be a proponent of the mission and share the Tesla story with the world in your own way to feel success in being a part of this journey. After all, the company exists for the betterment of all of our lives be that through the quality and innovation of their products or just their boldness to believe that our future can, must, and will be sustainable. 

Be a Tesla shareholder who sees potential in this company in a monetary sense, but more so in a way that is to support changing the world in a positive way. Here’s to those who will be holding their stock for many years down the road and here’s to Tesla for making all of this possible.

With almost all #stocks down over 25% and $TSLA down more than 50%, where is #Tesla going in the  near-term? Let’s analyze.  As you know, TSLA went IPO coming out of our most recent Recession. The initial valuation on the public markets was $2 billion. The market showed enthusiasm for the stock, but concerns were raised about the long-term viability of the company since Tesla had a limited operating history, a long history of losses, and pending competition from traditional automakers. 

Because of these reasons, the stock was frequently the subject of high short interest. The important question to be answered which has stood for the past decade of TSLA is are the short-sellers correct in their bearish sentiment, or is the stock bound to rise for years to come?   Tesla is growth company. Looking at the full chart of TSLA, you will see enormous volatility to both the up and downsides. And as I mentioned in my video titled “What is the Long-Term Potential of Tesla?”, the intrinsic value of the company has looked more like this. Tesla has been growing over 50% and Elon Musk says that Tesla will continue to grow around 50% for many years to come.  

But that is long-term trajectory. What does that mean for the next few quarters? Actually very little. The markets are grappling with something new, something that has never really happened before. In other words, this is uncharted territory. The FED is trying really hard to reverse the negativity with extreme measures such as interest rates of zero, but the slight bounce backs seem to only be temporary. The toll of people with the illness has risen over 200,000 and the number will continue to rise for the foreseeable future.   

So what is the direct impact on Tesla here? Let's go!

In this brief earnings recap video, I will talk over my single biggest takeaway from hearing the executives talk, explain the stock’s reaction, and tell you why I think Tesla’s future is brighter than ever!  

Tesla says they had a $535M increase in their cash and cash equivalents in Q2 were raised to $8.6B. Free cash flow was $418M in Q2 with $327M GAAP operating income, a 5.4% operating margin in Q2, $104M GAAP net income, and $451M non-GAAP net income. That marks four quarters of sequential profitability for the company. Tesla revenue hit $6.04 billion during the second quarter of 2020, with about 7% of that, or $428 million, coming from sales of regulatory credits allowing profitability, and, now, S&P500 inclusion.    

How does Tesla use regulatory credits to log revenue and offset operating costs? It’s a great question and now is a great time for me to clear up any confusion.
