About Dr. Jacqueline (In her own words) In 2018, I experienced severe burnout that resulted in me leaving my job as a public health professor. I am in the top 1% of most cited scientists worldwide but being a leader, mom and wife was challenging in the competitive world of medical science research. I was sad to leave a field I was so passionate about; using behavior science to help communities be healthy. I still support researchers writing grants for the National Institutes of Health and other health agencies worldwide. At first, I blamed myself and felt like a failure. My inner critic was screaming at me 24/7. I started to read about changing my mindset, letting go of authoritarian parenting, and learning my love language. I benefited greatly from coaching. And even did stand up and improv comedy. But as I read about being a better leader I learned about the maternal wall and the motherhood penalty, that are particularly prevalent in STEMM. I had not realized I was burned out at the time, but as I learned about the conditions that lead to burnout it hit me that the causes and solutions for burnout are different for women. That burnout and DEI align. I am now on a mission to prevent burnout in other working moms and to change the narrative that burnout is an individual problem. It is a systemic problem that needs strategic multi level solutions. As part of my effort to spread this message, I spoke on the TEDx stage: How to stop burnout before it starts. I host the podcast Overcoming working mom burnout & I write and speak regularly about burnout and behavior change. I can help your organization in several ways: 1) take advantage of all the free resources on my website www.DrJacquelineKerr.com 2) hire me to ignite impactful change in your organization through an engaging keynote about my story, my science and my solutions 3) allow me to provide you with a comprehensive strategic plan for burnout prevention in your employees that aligns with your DEI, wellness, and leadership development goals and provides evidence-based solutions and processes to ensure individual, team and organizational change 4) let me perform a behavioral analysis of your DEI, leadership or wellness programs (internal or external) and provide evidence based behavior strategies to impro

In this I bring 25+ years' experience of supporting change in a wide variety of Corporate, Government and Entrepreneurial settings in the UK, Europe, the US and South Africa. A key passion of mine is to enable leaders (stewards/facilitators) and their teams to stay with difficulty and complexity, and the anxieties this can provoke - long enough to discover how this unlocks new levels of trust, meaning, capability and creativity within teams and organisational systems.
Most recently I have been supporting small and growing enterprises in the tech, retail and education sectors.
I work very simply: by getting to know people, listening to their perspectives, discovering what's true and what's wanting to happen, and enabling fresh, dynamic conversations at various levels and in various combinations. With the right supports in place, this can begin to open up a new way through, towards a healthier, more effective and regenerative paradigm for working together (see website: www.simpleconnectedconversations.com).

In this episode, Dana and i dive deep into the world of change consultants; internal vs external capabilities and the pros and cons for each.
I am grateful to have Dana chatting with me today.
Topics include:
External change consultants, external change contractors, and internal change practitioners; the divide and the benefits.
The power of the outside perspective and radical candor.
The current shift in how organisations are managing change through people.
Do internal resources have the bandwidth to manage the headwinds?
The lifeguard view of external change consultants.
How to measure change success for internal vs external change managers?
Key considerations when making a decision to hire external change consultants.
The three key takeaways from Dana.
And much more.
About Dana (In her own words) I have a thirst to learn, a compulsion to share and a bias for action. Building more powerful, purposeful organizations that don't suck the soul out of people. As a writer, I put "wheels" on ideas so people can make use of them. As a doer, I put drivers to those wheels.
"Ideas do not implement themselves—neither in business nor in art, science, philosophy, politics, love, war. People implement ideas." (Levitt, 2002), a motto of mine. I’ve spent over two decades making and studying change – how it happens, why it’s a challenge, and what variables contribute most to successful change. I help organizations be better for people, and people better for organizations - and at a pace they can handle by preparing, equipping, and supporting people through the changes they experience at work so that they themselves, the projects, and the organization are more successful.
While my perspectives will change, I am an active, engaged listener, a keen observer of organizational behavior, change approaches, and I've been in the trenches while watching and participating in radical change responses.
Kind clients or teammates have left me recommendations on LinkedIn. Feel free to scan them for their truths - which may give you a better idea of who I am and how I operate.
I hold multiple degrees and certifications that blend business, AI, behavior economics, process improvement, positive psychology, sociology, culture anthropology and digital technology.

Welcome to the Inner Game of Change Podcast, where I explore the intricate layers of organizational change alongside insightful professionals in the field.

Drawing from his rich personal experiences, journalistic curiosity, and continuous reflection, Steve has cultivated a value-based approach to helping clients communicate through the art of storytelling. His publications are globally considered among the most effective tools for anyone aspiring to become a storyteller.
In this episode, Steve and I dive into the profound impact of storytelling—how it enriches our experiences, inspires action, and transforms our perspectives.
I am truly grateful to have Steve with me today.
About Steve (In his own story)
It's March 2020 and my order book has shrunk to zero. I was supposed to be in Estonia, speaking at a conference and running workshops with clients. Then Covid killed it all. But hey, I'm a TV journalist - I know how to communicate via a screen. I shifted all my training to Zoom, I rescued 80% of my cancelled work - and new clients started coming in.
2020 has turned into a boom year. I miss working face to face with clients. I miss Meeting-Biscuits and coffee break chats. But I sell stories - and stories work across any medium.
I've spent 30 years telling stories. I've chased people with a camera crew; I've walked through petrol bombs; I've been bitten by a dog once, sworn at many times and welcomed into strangers' homes again and again. All so I could get people to tell their side of the story.
But I was amazed how bad most people were at telling stories when it came to their work. I'd listen to the rehearsed soundbites and the PR spin. Eventually I'd go: "So what you're really saying is... [insert much more interesting story]."
Now I do this for a living. I help people find the great stories that are buried beneath the business-speak. I help them tell simple stories to connect with customers, staff and investors. I work with media companies, designers, innovators, charities, CEOs and universities across Europe.
My book on innovation techniques - Be Creative Now - was published by Pearson Business in 2016 and is translated into Chinese, Russian and Arabic.

E70 - The Future of Change Management - Podcast with Paul Gibbons
00:49:45
Welcome to the Inner Game of Change Podcast, uncovering the layers of complexity of organisational change with some of the bright minds in the field.
Today, I’m thrilled to be joined by Paul Gibbons, a leading voice in the future of change management. In his latest work, The Future of Change Management, Paul explores the quiet revolution in how we understand transitions, blending behavioral science, mental health, generative AI, and neuroscience to offer more effective strategies for leading change.
With up-to-date insights into HR, design thinking, and neurodiversity, Paul is reshaping how businesses adapt in a rapidly evolving world.
Let’s dive into the future of change management with Paul Gibbons.
About Paul My mission is to bring a science-based approach to culture, wellness, sustainability, the future of work, and leadership - to make practical the finest academic ideas so that business leaders can deploy those rather than dated ideas (or worse, myths.)
At IBM I wear three hats: 1) Head of our leadership and culture sub-offerings in the change practice, 2) head of the behavioral science practice development for IBM's consulting, 3) Thought leadership and eminence in IBM's Talent Transformation practice.
Today's keynotes focus on 1) Making hybrid work work. What the pandemic and "Great Resignation" have taught us about leadership and culture - and, crucially, how leaders must adapt their behavior in the new world of work. 2) Change mythology - the change world is populated by gurus where "popularity is a proxy for expertise." But many change ideas, learning styles, 70-20-10, MBTI, "sense of urgency" have been challenged by science. What should we discard? What do we replace those ideas with? 3) The behavioral revolution in culture and leadership. Behavioral science is slowly percolating its way into how leading organizations drive culture change - but few organizations fully capitalize on the opportunity. What can, for example, nudges do for critical topics such as sustainability, inclusion, and wellness? What are the ethical pitfalls? 4) Leadership. Most models of leadership and change were developed in the previous century and most leadership education is rooted in ideas on leadership that were birthed when organizations were different. What are the pitfalls of using 20th century leadership notions in 21st century organizations.
From the books... "... illustrates the inauthenticity of using analog methods to drive digital change and the irony of using 20th-century change management practices with millennial workforces. Impact debunks hallowed change models, points out their flaws, and suggests updates, based upon principles such as: human-centered, technology-enabled, systemic, creative, scalable, and based on a holistic understanding of what inspires today’s generation of workers."

I am grateful to have Kavita chatting with me today.
About Kavita (In her words) As an AI advisor, strategist, and founder of Opinosis Analytics, I help business leaders and tech teams in two key areas. The first involves architecting complex AI (and GenAI/LLM) systems. I’ve designed and managed over two dozen projects from a vague idea through productionization of these solutions.
This includes problems such as: » Recommendation engines (people, product, jobs, topics, content) » E-commerce search improvements » Organization-specific question-answering systems (RAG-Based Q&A) » Chatbots » Sentiment analysis » Categorization engines » Unstructured data integration
The solutions I’ve managed scale to millions of products and users and some of these initiatives have led to successful funding events for the clients supported.
My second area of focus is in helping companies with strategic AI integration. Whether it’s to spot low-hanging but high-impact AI opportunities, teach teams how to plan their AI strategy, develop a truly executable roadmap, or get started with individual initiatives--I’ve helped put teams on the path to achieving tangible results.
I’ve supported/am supporting the following companies through my work: McKesson, McMaster-Carr, The University of Sydney (Australia), Brown-Forman Corporation, The Odevo Group (Sweden), Verizon, NRC (US Government), and Federal Energy Regulatory Committee (US Government).

Mental Models For Managing Change - Gleicher's Formula
00:07:48
Hi everyone, and welcome to a very special mini-series on The Inner Game of Change. I’m thrilled to take you on this journey as we explore something both timeless and practical: mental models for managing change.
Let’s start with a quick definition. A mental model is a framework or way of thinking that helps us understand the world, make decisions, and solve problems more effectively. It’s like a blueprint for how to approach challenges and navigate complexity.
Now, here’s a simple analogy: Imagine you’re driving to a new destination. Without a map, you might take wrong turns, waste time, or even get lost. But with a map—your mental model—you have a clear route, helping you avoid mistakes and reach your goal safer and faster.
In the same way, mental models give us a clearer path for managing change. They simplify complexity and guide us toward better outcomes
Let’s dive into our very first episode, where we’ll explore Gleicher’s Formula for Change—a simple yet powerful equation that helps you understand how to overcome resistance and move toward action

I am grateful to have Ian chatting with me today.

Mental Models For Managing Change - Second Order Thinking
00:07:36
Welcome to a very special mini-series on The Inner Game of Change. I’m thrilled to take you on this journey as we explore something both timeless and practical: Mental Models for Managing Change.
In this episode, we explore a mental model that invites us to look beyond the immediate impact of change: Second-Order Thinking.
So often, change initiatives are shaped around what we expect to happen next. But in reality, change rarely follows a straight line — and first-order decisions often lead to second and third-order consequences we did not anticipate.
Second-Order Thinking encourages us to slow down and ask better questions — “And then what?” It helps us move beyond short-term fixes and consider the ripple effects, unintended outcomes, and longer-term dynamics our decisions might set in motion.
If you have ever implemented a change that worked on paper but created new challenges in practice, or if you are aiming to lead change that truly lasts, this episode offers a practical lens to deepen your thinking and strengthen your strategy.
Listen now to discover how Second-Order Thinking can help you lead change with foresight, clarity, and intention.
I am joined by Dr. Michael Canic to discuss his recently published book Ruthless Consistency; how committed leaders execute strategy, implement change and build organisations that win!

Michael will share his thoughts on many change enablers including : 1- Why many change initiatives fail, 2- It's all about execution, 3- You need to always overcommunicate, 4 - What people experience is far more important than anything you do 5 - "Constructive accountability", 6 - "Micro training,", and much more.

Thank you for checking in at The Inner Game of Change podcast where I focus on exploring the multi layers of managing organisational change.
My guests cover a diverse number of critical topics to enable effective and sustainable change adoption including communication, leadership, training, change impact, process design, change capability and much more.
In this podcast, I am joined by the global developmental psychologist and systemic change leader Joan Lurie to chat about how we can use her proprietary Orgonomics™ methodology to drive complex change.
About Joan "in her own words"
“I am the CEO of Orgonomix, a company I founded in 2008 to assist leaders and organisations to transform themselves and to function at their growing edge. My work integrates strategy, systems thinking, complexity, social construction and adult development theory.
I work with boards, executives and leadership teams to help them rewire their thinking to be more systemic, and to design and lead complex adaptive and second-order change in their organisations. With over 20 years of practice and experience, I have taken up both internal corporate as well as consulting roles, helping companies achieve turnaround results - emerging new cultures, operating models and different organisational systems, whilst simultaneously building their adaptive capacity.
Through this practice and experimentation, I have developed Orgonomics™ - a proprietary methodology which provides a ‘map’ for leaders to navigate the emerging complexity we face in the new economic landscape.
Referred to as ground-breaking, Orgonomics™ enables leaders to fundamentally transform their ways of seeing and knowing; reframe their assumptions and mental maps and repattern their organisational systems for new ways of relating and operating, to achieve higher order functioning and performance.
As a developmental psychologist and systemic change leader my core purpose is to ensure that leaders and organisations are able to continuously develop, adapt and grow to be fit for and thrive in our complex, ambiguous, uncertain and volatile context. Functioning at our growing edge and developing our adaptive muscle used to be a ‘nice to have', but it has now become our individual and organisational imperative; we have to accelerate it for the good of our whole ecology.

About Michael (In his own words)
TENACIOUS, CREATIVE, OPTIMISTIC, ENTREPRENEURIAL, KIND. These are the qualities I most admire in others. I’ve tried to cultivate them in myself. I’ve not always lived up to them, but I remain aspirational. For me, it’s these qualities that come in most handy when you set out to achieve a dream. Which is useful; because having a vision and finding a way to make it happen is what excites me most. When I was (much) younger I was in a band. We had the usual big ambitions. But…I raised a bit of money from local businesses, started an indie record label and signed my band to it. That action eventually led to me securing not one, but two, major recording contracts during my twenties. While I have amazing memories of a time spent largely on the road, ultimately, we never sold enough music to maintain a major label deal – even though I was a sticker in Smash Hits (my mum still has it on her toilet door) and in an era before Spotify, the tunes we wrote were frequent visitors to the airwaves. In the death of that dream I learned a valuable lesson; Creativity without the entrepreneurship, tenacity and sheer optimism to bring whatever you create to an audience is wasteful. Tenacity is crucial. In life and business, many people have the power to say NO. Getting to a YES requires a wider consultation with a larger constituency of people. That usually means ‘yes’ decisions happen less often. If you wanted to fly a hot air balloon through the raised drawer bridges of Tower Bridge as I have, or kickstart the world’s first mental health drop-in centre inside a soup kitchen, you have to have to keep communicating and collaborating; to keep asking the questions that will get you a big fat YES. This is the quality that I hope to contribute to an endeavour. I’d like to think I’ve now honed my entrepreneurial instincts to a point where they’re proven – I’ve been a long-term managing director of an award-winning, high growth advertising agency and founded another creative business that is now an international organisation of renown – we’ve won an agency of the year accolade 6 times in 8 years. As for optimism – well, in any mission you embark on, you need to believe the horizon is bathed in sunshine, or why head there at all? And kindness? I sometimes fall short. BUT...I’m a homelessness charity trustee and a soup kitchen volunteer. I believe in equality of opportunity. I sit on our LGBTQ+ steering committee and I’m an activist. I’m a working-class kid from Grimsby who has needed
