04 Apr 2024#6 Why You Get To Make The Rules– with Makeup Artist + Career Pivot Coach, Alexis Walker00:08:13

Have you ever stopped to ask yourself Who wrote the “Rules” for how you’ve been working and living? In this transparent, mini, stuffy-nose filled episode, we take a break from our regularly scheduled programming to…take a break!

This week I share the realization I had recently coming down with flu. It doesn’t do any of us any good to build something new- if we just keep doing things the way we did them before!

A Second Act  doesn’t have to involve changing careers, or starting a side hustle. It can be as simple as changing your mind about how you approach your life and deciding to do things a little differently.

This episode is about defining for yourself What’s “In” and What’s “Out” for YOUR life!

In this “mini” episode we get into:

  • My own “In” and “out” list
  • Working while we’re sick ..and why we should knock that off!
  • Real talk about ditching a “work ethic” that doesn’t work for us anymore

04 Jul 2024Ep #19 New Year's in July - with Makeup Artist + Career Pivot Coach, Alexis Walker00:04:51

Happy Fourth of July , Friends! Can you believe we're already halfway through the year? Yikes! Maybe it's because I spent the early part of my career filming back-to-back Christmas movies in July (hello, Hallmark Channel days!), but I like to think of this mid-way point as "New Year's Part Deux".

It's the perfect time for celebrating our independence, chilling with the family,  soaking in the summer vibes... and also, taking a beat to reflect.

In today's 4th of July mini-episode of the Hollywood Second Act Club Podcast we talk about taking a mid-year pause- and being intentional with the rest of the year. I also share plans for future 'shorty' coaching episodes to help overcome  common mindset challenges, such as imposter syndrome and self-doubt, that can often trip folks up on the path to starting something . Be  sure  to tune in next Thursday for a full episode and enjoy your holiday!

20 Sep 2024Ep #28 What I Learned From Talking Animal Movies- with Film Development Executive Turned Author + Advocate, Kelley Coleman00:37:17

If you've ever found yourself making a career pivot on a dime, despite having a good thing going- this episode is for you!

My guest is  Film Development Executive turned Author and Advocate for parents , caregivers, and individuals with disabilities, Kelley Coleman. Her writing is an extension of her Before Times career developing talking animal movies, and also a few fun disaster movies!

Kelley's book Everything No one Told Your About Parenting a Disabled Child: Your Guide to the Essential Systems, Services, and Supports ( Hachette , 2024) is a singular guide to accessing the supports disabled children need to thrive. And it’s weirdly not boring, she swears! ( her words, not mine;)

Her advocacy draws upon over a decade of firsthand experience, including advocating for her own  kiddo, who has multiple disabilities.

During our conversation, Kelley talks about the lessons she's embraced, what it feels like a decade later, and how she's lighting the way for others. Get ready to be inspired and see your own pivot in a new light!

08 Nov 2024Ep #36 The Tougher the Day, The Kinder You Have to Be To Yourself- w/ Author, Speaker, Comedian, and Mental Health Advocate Kristina Kuzmic00:35:22

My guest today is author, speaker, comedian, and mental health advocate Kristina Kuzmic. Kristina is a cheerleader for her fellow humans. It’s not something she ever anticipated doing, but after immigrating to America from Croatia during the war in her homeland and later facing more challenges (divorce, single parenting, poverty, mental health challenges), Kristina’s goal became clear: to be for others what she needed when she was at her lowest.

Now, with well over one billion video views, Kristina is providing her audience with encouragement, hope and humor in a role she never expected to fill.

In 2011, Oprah crowned Kristina the winner of Mark Burnett’s reality TV competition “Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star”. Since working with Oprah, Kristina has branched out on her own, creating videos about juggling all of life’s challenges, and encouraging her audience to prioritize their mental health. She has quickly become a viral sensation with 2.9 million Facebook followers and over 800,000 Instagram followers.

Kristina is a sought-after international keynote speaker, delivering impactful talks at conferences on mental health, women's issues, parenting, business, and even for the FBI. She has a unique ability to connect with diverse audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Kristina has also completed two comedy tours, performing in over 60 cities across US and Canada. Her first book, Hold On But Don’t Hold Still, was released through Penguin Random House in February 2020, and has since been translated to eight languages. Kristina’s second book, I Can Fix This! (And Other Lies I’ve Told Myself while Parenting My Struggling Child), was released in May 2024, and was featured on Good Morning America, The New York Times and People magazine, among other media outlets.

15 Nov 2024Ep #37 What To Do When Life Throws Us Curveballs - with Film Industry Caterer + Founder of Jane Foodie, Jane Carroll00:38:16

My guest today is the incredibly lovely and inspiring Jane Carroll, founder of Jane Foodie. Growing up, Jane defied traditional roles for women, paving her own path and embracing the unconventional. She shares her journey from a single mom in the Bronx to a pioneer in the floral event design and movie catering industry. Despite facing numerous personal and professional setbacks, Jane shares how she reset and adapted to life's curveballs.

She first gained recognition with her “Boxed-in Blooms,” attracting the attention of Oprah Winfrey. After navigating the 2008 financial crisis that shuttered her design studio, Jane pivoted towards health and sustainability. In 2015, she launched Jane Bakes, specializing in all-natural cookies. Her latest venture, Jane Foodie, was inspired by her work in the film industry and focuses on nutritious, flash-frozen meals ( including her award-winning Guinness Beef Stew, recognized at the 2024 Summer Fancy Food Show)

When she’s not leading her team, Jane enjoys time with her grandchildren, exploring NYC, and indulging her passions for design and entertaining.

This episode is a masterclass in resilience, pivoting careers, and turning obstacles into opportunities!
