17 Sep 2019001: The Have-To-Job and the Want-To-Career00:31:20

Welcome to the first episode!

In this inaugural episode, we'll get really clear on what it means to have a 'have-to-job' vs. a 'want-to-career'.

Everyone wants a career they love, but have you ever really thought about the elements that contribute to creating that want-to dream job?  Most people think it's all about the role itself, but the fact is it's about way more than that.

In this episode, I'll walk through the EIGHT Cornerstone Categories of what makes up that want-to career that gets you excited to get out of bed in the morning. And I'll give you a free tool to help you figure it out for yourself!

Access the free tool in the show notes @ thecareerreset.com/01

24 Sep 2019002: The 4 Stages of Breaking-Up With Your 'Have-To-Job'00:29:34

If you’re sticking it out in a job you don’t love then this episode is for you.

Most people believe that sticking it out in a Have-To-Job is the responsible thing to do.  They can handle it.  It’s not a big deal.  But the truth is that the cost is much higher than you think, and the return is much lower.

So in this episode, I’m walking through the 4 stages of breaking up with your Have-To-Job so that 1) you know what's coming, 2) you can assess where you are, and 3) you can PROACTIVELY decide what you want to do about it.

Once you listen to the podcast, head over to the show note comments @ thecareerreset.com/02 and share which stage you’re in and what you want to do about it.

23 Apr 2020031: Your Mental Health @ Work00:38:37

This pandemic has put a spotlight on many opportunities to fix problems and improve processes across many industries and services

One thing that I’ve noticed is that people had a rough time dealing with the ongoing changing circumstances.  People got stressed out, depressed, over-ate, over- drank, over-Netlfixed, among other things.  They got angry and scared.

And then some people totally rose to the occasion.

The difference in how people are handling this crisis based on how they are thinking.  The reason we do anything is because of what we think about it.

And that’s why this episode is all about how true performance improvement is based on our ability to manage our thinking.  It’s about using the health of your mind to be actively aware of how your thinking is creating your emotions and behaviours in order to drive your results.

Behavioural management is a by-product of thought management.

Teaching ourselves and our employees to improve their performance by being aware of their thinking is the future of performance development.

If you want to change your results, you must learn to actively change your mind.

This episode is for both the perfectionists who know they’re perfectionists and the folks who don’t know they’re perfectionists.

So it’s basically for all human beings. Because perfectionism shows up in so many ways.  This isn’t just for those people who try to make their work perfect or get upset when there’s a hair out of place. It’s for anyone who has a goal that they just can’t seem to achieve.  It’s for anyone who lets fear of failure stop them from taking action.

29 Oct 2020048: Drama Dependency00:36:26

In this episode, we’re talking about something I call drama dependency.  I made up this terminology, but it’s based on real cognitive-behavioural principles.

I love the way it sounds … drama dependency… it sounds so dramatic just saying it.  So meta. That’s why it’s so perfect.

It’s exactly as it sounds - we get dependent on our own drama.  We get unconsciously dependent on something at work being a problem so that we can avoid a bigger problem (usually of our own making).

And you know this is a real thing because you know those people who are like that.  Everything is an issue.  Nothing can be solved.  Or they’ve been complaining about the same thing for years and don’t do anything about it.

You probably have someone like that on your team.  We totally notice it in other people… but as always, you completely miss when you’re doing it.

So let’s explore if you are creating and depending on your own drama.  We’re going to talk about why we get drama dependent, how to recognize the signs, and how to start practicing being drama free.
